BRASS BALLS BOBBERS SUPPORTS WOUNDED WARRIOR AND BUILDS BIKES FOR VETS– Several months ago I was contacted by a soldier in Iraq, SSgt. Damon Fairchild, who asked me to design and build a bike for him. I was and am still honored. (We will publish the build in the next month or so.)

Through emails and calls I have developed a relationship with him and a number of other servicemen.

From time to time I send over posters, banners and t-shirts to the guys and gals over there. Every time we send out a care package I am reminded of my days in Dessert Storm.

And one of the things that stands out and meant so much to me were the care packages that included basic things (which we take for granted) or something that reminded me of home.

One of the benefits of staying connected has been the pictures from the troops. I share them with you and will keep posting them as they come in.

Here are the photos you requested. The bike with the flames and the shovel is for SSgt Damon Fairchild.

The bike with red rims is another customer’s bike shipping out this week. It has the Retro finish, Crazy Horse V-Plus 100″ (re-engineered Indian PP-100)

We will probably fire SSgt. Fairchild’s bike tomorrow.

BIKERNET SEAT COMPETITION ON HOME PAGE– Shirley Z posted a link to this competition on our forum at Leatherworker.net. I think it’s great that you are doing this for the seat makers and also to support a great cause. I would like to cast a vote for Shirley’s seat.

The other one is great too, but I have been a fan of Shirley’s work for a few years now and couldn’t pass up the chance support her work. I bought a few tickets also, for the chance to possibly win a piece of her work. I’m a cowboy and a leatherworker, not a biker, but you guys have a really cool site here.

REVOLT SPREADS THROUGH ABATE OF ILLINOIS– The South Suburban Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois has refused to have its local Chapter Newsletter censored by the State Board and has decided not to send any more money to the state. The President of the South Suburban Chapter is Attorney Michael Donahue.

Donahue?s editorial in his Chapter Newsletter complained that because he is a lawyer, he cannot support his own Chapter by running ads for personal injury cases or donate money to events that the Chapter sponsors. All this is because the State Board has imposed censorship on ads of the 82,000 lawyers practicing in Illinois and has given an exclusive advertising agreement to an Indiana law firm.

Donahue?s Chapter was put on probation for thanking Attorney Michael F. Hupy for all he has done for the Chapter. Hupy has been a member of this Chapter for approximately 17 years. To quote Donahue:

?Because of the financial bind we find ourselves in we have had to Continue to cut back on our expenses which in turn results in less benefits for our members. Why should we have to cut back on the publication of our newsletter, when, if given the opportunity, we could easily raise the funds to support it.?

Donahue also stated in his front-page editorial that Chapters statewide have been handcuffed from acting in the best interest of the members by an A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois policy, which is designed to benefit one entity to the detriment of the organization as a whole. Donahue went on to say about the Indiana law firm, ?Why the need for protection from competition? What is the real motivation behind the restrictive advertising policy?? Because he is a lawyer, Donahue is on the A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois Non-Preferred list.

?We have yet to receive what we consider to be an honest answer,? Donahue stated, ?on the subject of why special treatment should be given to one business.?

The Westgate Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois ran an editorial in its April, 2008, issue supporting the position of the South Suburban Chapter and decried the restriction of freedoms by a rights organization.

THAT’S A WRAP FOR A SINNER’S SUNDAY–We will work with Dockside Brad with a new set of Progressive Suspension shocks on his ’61 Pan. We’ll report back. Then we’re off to Long Beach for the Sinners gathering in a bar on Anaheim. That’s all I know, but we’ll find the joint.

Rubber mount
John Reed reports on vibration and movement comparisons between solid mounts and rubber mounted drivelines.

Next week watch for our D&D/Zippers performance EFI install and Chopper Dave’s bike feature. There’s more, but I gotta cut a dusty trail. The hot sun feels damn fine.

Ride Forever,
