Holy Shit,
The buzz in Laughlin was Baggers, crazy 26-inch wheeled, lowered, chopped, raked and stretched monsters with serious attitude. “I wanted to build a bagger I could ride to the bar and think it was just as cool as my chopper,” Paul Yaffe said. “These are even cooler than some choppers.” He’s right. We’ll bring you a feature soon.

Check out Paul’s site. Check out Cycle Visions, Brian Klock and Sinister (Sinisterindustries.com), the winner of the Chopper Challenge last year. They are all building sharp dressers. We hung out at the Aquarius and staged our first annual Bikernet Think Tank with a handful of the best minds in the Bikernet contributor squad, including the chairman Mark B., our new business manager Steve “Hiway” Thomas, and Ray Wheeler our Nuclear scientist. Over the next six months you’ll witness changes and enhanced services on Bikernet.

Bandit?s Roadking. It’s never run better, with the S&S cam gear drive system, Zipper’s EFI and D&D exhaust. Plus it handled like a dream with the True Track in place.

Dad replied, ‘That happens in every country, son.’

Stevenson’s Cycle Launches Their New Line of Made in the U.S.A. Foot Controls– WAYNE, MICH–April 23, 2009–Stevenson’s Cycle announced the launch of their fully customizable foot controls. The controls are another example of Stevenson’s much-awarded blend of artistry and dependability. Strikingly eye-catching and toughness combine. These new foot controls from Stevenson’s Cycle are another example of a motorcycle part that will have people saying “Why didn’t I think of that?”
Steve Broyles of Stevenson’s Cycle is known for his innovative parts. As far as the dependability goes, the controls are made of steel instead of a less durable metal like the common billet aluminum. They are designed to last. As far as looks and image go, the foot controls are available in all black, all chrome, chrome and brass, black and brass, chrome and black, black and chrome and knurled or smooth brass toe pegs. They are sleek and stylish all on their own. They are also fully color customizable and can be powder-coated with any color.
The most ground-breaking option the foot controls offer riders is the fact that they are designed to fit any standard handle bar grip. This gives the rider the ability to switch foot control grips for a color change or wear-and-tear. The grips provide a sticky surface for a shoe sole to rest on and rubber/neoprene offer some vibration dampening.
Controls are available with left side shifter or hydraulic foot clutch and are sold in sets or separately. All foot pegs accept 1″ handlebar handgrips. Starting as low as $516, the controls fit all 4-speed frames, as well as Softails through 1999. They will fit 2000 and up Harleys with an adapter kit. Also adaptable to any custom built motorcycle. Custom orders are welcomed for an additional price.
Pictured with brass knurled foot pegs, sold separately $140.
They are located in Wayne, Michigan. Their store is located at 4653 Wayne Road in Wayne, Michigan (48184). For more information, please contact Stevenson’s at www.stevensonscycle.com or phone 734-641-2200.

EXCERPT FROM FEMA – The European Motorcyclists’ Federation ON MOTORCYCLE TESTING– A. Emissions
The amount of emissions emitted by motorcycles is marginal compared to other motorised road users, let alone compared to total national emission volumes.
Powered Two-Wheelers have major advantages compared to any other motorized road transport means, especially on climate change, with less emission of greenhouse gas and lower fuel consumption. Motorcycles offer solutions to many congestion and pollution problems faced by EU Member States. They have been subject to EU emissions limits since 1999 and now comply with the Euro 3 standards. In addition, governments and PTW manufacturers are working together to bring down emission levels on a continuing basis.
Motorcycle manufacturers have already achieved enormous progress over the past 7 years: minus 94 % of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions, and minus 50 % of nitrogen emissions for the period 1999-2006. Furthermore, this drastic reduction of the emissions has been coupled with more severe test conditions.
According to an independent expert chosen by the European Commission5, PTW exhaust emissions show a good trend compared to the overall emissions of road transports. This trend is not only valid for what concerns the three main pollutants, but also with regard to CO2 and particles emissions. At the horizon of 2012, the share of this two pollutants will be under 0,5% of the overall road transport CO2 and PM emissions.
The impact on national emission volumes is thus barely recognizable. In our view, periodical inspections to control motorcycle emissions would request a lot of resources for very limited benefits. Furthermore, there are currently no EU established methods or equipment available for implementing emissions inspections for motorcycles.

HISTORY CHANNEL BIKER BUILD-OFF TIP–Rumor has it that the History Channel is moving forward with their Biker Build-off pilot show. It will involve two southern California builders, who will be given just two weeks to build a killer scooter, then they will be required to ride it 600 miles, and finally the bikes will be judged by two guys from the industry. The latest news is that they chose Arlen Ness and Dave Nichols, the editor in Chief of Easyriders Magazine for the task, since he’s been judging Easyriders bike shows for a decade and picking bikes for magazine pages. Plus Dave was the host of the Easyriders V-Twin Television series on the Speed Channel for several years.
We know Gard Hollinger, of LA Chop Rods was approached to be a contestant, but he turned it down. Stopping all production to build a bike for a television show, without being paid, is tough in these times. Small shops can’t afford to go without pay for two weeks, even if it is Television. We’ll bring you more reports as we learn more.

BIKERNET PUBLIC SERVICE PHOTO–Yo Bandit, This might be a good candidate for the Sunday post.–m
Yeah, it’s getting to be that season. Be careful out there, and don’t drink and ride. –Bandit

BIKERS…ya jusy gotta luv ’em!– A cop stops a Harley for traveling faster than the posted speed limit, so he asks the biker his name.
‘Fred,’ he replies.
‘Fred what?’ the officer asks.
‘Just Fred,’ the man responds.
The officer is in a good mood and thinks he might just give the biker a break and, writes him out a warning instead of a ticket. The officer then presses him for the last name. The man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it.
The officer thinks that he has a nut case on his hands but plays along with it.
‘Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name?’
The biker replies, ‘It’s a long story, so stay with me. I was born Fred Dingaling. I know – a funny last name. The kids used to tease me all the time, so… I stayed to myself, studied hard and got good grades.
When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, residency, and finally got my degree, so… I was Fred Dingaling, MD.
After a while I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream! Got all the way through school, got my degree. so… then I was Fred Dingaling, MD, DDS.
Got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant and she gave me VD. so…then I was Fred Dingaling, MD, DDS, with VD.
Well, the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS. Then I was Fred Dingaling, MD, with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Dingaling with VD.
And then, and then..the VD took away my Dingaling. so… now I am Just Fred.
The officer walked away in tears, laughing.

BIKERNET WORKOUT PROGRAM STARTS WITH WALKING– Walking is an ideal way to get daily exercise – it strengthens almost every major organ in the body, promotes bone density, and boosts the immune system. But have you considered how to best put one foot in front of the other? Your walking habits can have an impact on how much benefit you get from each outing. Keep the following in mind when walking:
Walk with your head erect. Look ahead and train your sight 10 to 20 feet ahead of you. If you need to check the ground to avoid obstacles, lower your eyes, not your head.
Keep your back straight. Stretch your spine so your shoulders are level and square, and tuck your buttocks in.
Bend your arms. Flex your elbows at close to 90-degree angles and let your arms swing at waist level.
Take shorter, measured steps, with your feet striking the ground with the heel and pushing off with the toes. Too long a stride can throw you off balance.
Avoid lowering your head, thrusting your trunk forward or letting your arms dangle listlessly at your sides.

SERIOUS BIKERNET RELATIONSHIP WARNING– Menopause Jewelry My husband, being unhappy with my mood swings, bought me a mood ring the other day so he would be able to monitor my moods.
We’ve discovered that when I’m in a good mood, it turns green. When I’m in a bad mood, it leaves a big frickin’ red mark on his forehead.
Maybe next time he’ll buy me a diamond. Dumb ass.

Motorcycle Riders Foundation Vice President Michael “Boz” Kerr Passes Away– Early this morning we received the most sad and unfortunate news that Michael “Boz” Kerr passed away peacefully in his sleep overnight. He had just returned from a very successful Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) Beast of the East Motorcycle Rights Conference.
At the time of his passing “Boz” was the current Vice President of the MRF and Chairman of the Legislative Committee. Prior to his being elected Vice President he served as an MRF Board Member in the capacity of MRF PAC Chairman. “Boz” was instrumental in setting up the stand alone MRF Awareness and Education Organization (MRFA&E) and was the driving force behind the upcoming National Motorcycle Awareness day in Washington D.C., known as “Bikers Inside the Beltway”.
“Boz” was also a past President of the Chicago Chapter of ABATE of Illinois and recently retired as Chairman of ABATE of Illinois FEDPAC. In the past year he was awarded the MRF Presidents Cup of Distinction and ABATE of Illinois’ highest honor, the Rich Neb Award.
“Boz” was the finest political operative I have ever had the privilege to work with and his concern and passion for motorcycle rights and his genuineness will be greatly missed by the MRF and the entire motorcycling rights community. We have certainly lost one of the great ones in our movement. Words cannot express the amount of sadness and the profound impact that losing another one of our own will have. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife and family, his ABATE family, and his MRF family”, said MRF President Kirk “Hardtail” Willard.
“Boz” was well known for his speeches, such as the “Greatest Generation”, “Mr. Jones”, and most recently “Making Thunderbirds; long, low, lean, and fast”. Godspeed brother, you will be missed.
Details of the services can be found on the Chicago Chapter’s website at www.chicagoabate.com

Zero Motorcycles: The Green Machines for Your Store?– In today?s economy many dealers are looking for additional sources of income, preferably those with minimal startup costs. Claiming to fit that bill is Zero Motorcycles Inc., the Santa Cruz, Calif.-based maker of the electric Zero X dirtbike and (shipping in May) the electric Zero S supermoto.
The company?s business model requires you to stock no inventory except for at least one demo unit of each model that you decide to sell, bought by you at a discount. The company says that within the next three months it will be adding a dual-sport and another dirtbike to the roster. It plans to sell a sportbike in 2010.
According to Zero Motorcycles, it has a little more than 35 independent representatives in the United States but hopes to have 60 by the end of the year. It also has roughly 10 reps in Canada and 10 in Europe, and is looking to expand those numbers to 20 and 60, respectively. About 40 percent of the North American reps are powersports dealers. Most Zero reps own other types of businesses (like an electric vehicle dealership) or just operate out of their homes.
But before we delve more into the business model, let?s review the motorcycles themselves.
The Zero X is fully automatic, and both brakes are operated through hand levers.
The bike has a Speed Controller that consists of two switches, one for speed and one for acceleration. The speed switch can limit the bike to 30 mph, which, in some states, turns it in to a motorized bicycle. The acceleration switch has a beginner mode and a sport mode. So altogether there are four possible configurations.
Options include an upgraded motor and an upgraded fork. Other accessories are in the works.

Grand jury indicts Panhandle sheriff– PENSACOLA ? A federal grand jury has indicted suspended Okaloosa County Sheriff Charlie Morris and his former office manager on theft, money laundering and conspiracy charges. The jury returned its indictment against the Panhandle sheriff today.
Gov. Charlie Crist suspended Morris in February, after federal authorities arrested the sheriff in Nevada on a Las Vegas gambling trip. Prosecutors allege Morris and his former office manager, Teresa Adams, created fictitious bonuses for sheriff’s department employees then pocketed some of the money.

Dealer Expo Report–christened the freshly minted Lucas Oil Stadium with a robust display of exhibitor optimism and dealer, um, enthusiasm. The new space was warmer, friendlier, more positive than the sterile dome now reduced to a pile of rubble across the street.
A couple of blocks north, Convention Center Expo attendees enjoyed a more relaxed show experienced due in large part to the severely trimmed exhibitor list. Missing in large part was the junk that snuck in over the past couple of years.
