one girl

Hey,

What the hell? One day it’s smokin’ in California, the next day it can’t reach the 60s. We’re prepping for our ride to Half Moon Bay on all rigid kickers. Billy’s girl promises to document our every move which will be featured in our Bikernet Studios and on Billy’s site.

We’re working diligently with George Fleming on our Sturgis Bikernet Brouhaha ads for the Sturgis Rally news, etc. You’ll get a tease right here, right now. What else. What else, bullshit, let’s hit the news. This is going to blow your mind:

Sen. John McCain to appear at Buffalo Chip?s Veterans Tribute– Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican Party nominee for President of the United States will participate in the annual Tribute to American Veterans and Active Duty Servicemen at the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground on Monday Aug. 4 during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

?We are honored that a patriot of Senator McCain?s stature would take time during his Presidential campaign to help us honor our veterans and active duty military personnel,? said campground owner Rod Woodruff. ?We can think of no better example of the courage, sacrifice, integrity and sense of duty embodied by the people who protect our freedom daily.?

McCain Senior Advisor, Carla Eudy confirmed Thursday that the Senator would participate in the Chip?s annual tribute.

The Buffalo Chip has for many years conducted the tribute. Past tributes have included The Patriot Guard Riders, The U.S. Army Golden Knights, B-1B fly-bys and numerous color guards and flag-folding ceremonies.

?We have for years been humbled to provide the Buffalo Chip stage to honor the heroic service of great American patriots,? Woodruff said. ?Sen. McCain?s heroism has been an inspiration to all Americans. I know the freedom-loving bikers who join us each year at the Buffalo Chip will be extremely appreciative and honored by his participation in this year?s tribute.?

John McCain?s leadership record is remarkable and his lifetime commitment to service has been unwavering.

Senator McCain, of Arizona, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982. He has led the fight to reform Washington; to eliminate government waste and make certain our armed forces are strong.

His agenda for reform, including reducing federal spending and lowering taxes elevated him to the United States Senate in 1986.

While in the Senate, McCain has worked to close loopholes for special interests and repair the Washington system that allows Congress to waste money and lobbyists to write legislation.

The Senator?s devotion to freedom and country runs in his veins. His father and grandfather were both distinguished Navy admirals. He attended the United States Naval Academy and had a distinguished 22-year career as a naval aviator. He asked to serve in the Vietnam War.

He barely escaped death when the plane he was preparing to take-off on a bombing mission over North Vietnam was struck by a missile accidentally fired from another plane on the flight deck of the USS Forrestal. The fire killed 134 men and injured hundreds more. Twenty planes were destroyed.

Rather than return home, the senator volunteered for more combat duty and during his 23rd bombing mission on October, 26, 1967, he was shot down and taken prisoner in the infamous ?Hanoi Hilton.? While there, he was denied crucial medical attention and was often beaten by his North Vietnamese captors.

Much of his time as a POW, the Senator McCain was held in solitary confinement. He was released five and a half years later and upon returning home regained his naval flight status.

He retired from the Navy in 1981. His military honors include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Senator McCain lives with his wife Cindy in Phoenix, Arizona., He has seven children and four grandchildren.

?Senator McCain?s life has been a stalwart and courageous fight for the very freedoms that hundreds of thousands of bikers come to Sturgis each year to celebrate. He is an awe-inspiring patriot and we are privileged to have him join the Buffalo Chip?s annual tribute,? Woodruff said.

KENNEDY CHOPPER CLASS UPDATE– The 2008 Kennedy Chopper class went all out to show the world we have a unique and cool program that will for sure leave a positive impact on my students. Our builds included a 1942 WLA, 1947 FL Knucklehead, a 1958 Duo-Glide, and a 2008 S&S powered chop.

We entered the four bikes in this year Donnie Smith Invitational and brought home three first in class awards and one BEST of Show first place. After the show I was fortunate enough to have been invited to bring the 2008 chop to the Limpnickie Lot this year in Sturgis and the ’47 Knuck will be in Michael Lichter’s week long Sturgis display.

Come out and check out the bikes and say, “Hey.”

WINDING DOWN OUR SUNDAY TOOL RECOMMENDATIONS– AIR COMPRESSOR: A machine that takes energy produced in a coal-burning power plant 200 miles away and transforms it into compressed air that travels by hose to a Chicago Pneumatic impact wrench that grips rusty bolts which were last over tightened 30 years ago by someone at Ford, and instantly rounds off their heads. Also used to quickly snap off lug nuts. PRY BAR: A tool used to crumple the metal surrounding that clip or bracket you needed to remove in order to replace a 50 cent part.

HOSE CUTTER: A tool used to make hoses too short.

MICHAEL LICHTER’S ANNUAL STURGIS MOTORCYCLE ART EXHIBITION HONORS THE LATE JOHNNY CHOP– STURGIS, S.D. ?April 24, 2008? Thunder Road will once again be home to the annual Custom Motorcycle Art Exhibition during Sturgis Bike Week 2008. Under the direction of Michael Lichter, and with the blessing of the late Johnny Chop?s family, this year?s exhibition, titled ?Stay Gold,? is being held to honor Johnny Chop and will feature builders who approach their work with the same passion that Johnny demonstrated in each bike he built throughout his short life. This passion radiated from Johnny?s being and was enthusiastically expressed on his knuckles, which were tattooed with the eight letters ? S-T-A-Y-G-O-L-D ? that became the exhibition?s namesake.

Jeff Cochran
To participate in the “Stay Gold” exhibition, the builders must be living their passion of building custom motorcycles or making art about them, but they cannot earn a living off their endeavors. Some make their livings doing service work in bike shops, while others support themselves as tattoo artists, contractors or within the confines of a straight 9 to 5 job. Among the more then twenty bike builders participating are: Keith “Bandit” Ball, Ben Jordan, Bill Steele, Jeff Decker, Kutty Noteboom, Michael Pugliese, Nik Pew, Skeeter Todd, Steve English, Tattoo John Surprenant and Tom Foster. Some of the artists included in the show are Anthony “Scout” Underwood, Armando Salbana, Cole Foster, Jeff Cochran, Jeff Decker, Nik Pew Seth Liebowitz and Tattoo John Suprenant.

?The participants in this exhibition are driven by their passion, not by the promise of money or fame,? said Michael Lichter, the exhibition?s organizer. ?Most of them have barely sold a bike or piece of art, except to fund their next project. They are living in that magical time where creativity knows no bounds because there is no customer dictating their wants and needs.? Regardless of where their paths may lead, we hope this group of artists will forever “Stay Gold”.

mike lichter

?Stay Gold? will be on display in Thunder Road?s Thunderdome from August 1 through August 8, and operating hours will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Admission to the Thunderdome is $5, but there is free parking and Glencoe Gold campers get in free.

BILL BIKE

BROTHER’S NEW RIDE– You mentioned to let you know what bike I was going to get in 2008. I bought a 2008 Dyna Low Rider, Black Pearl. I picked it up on Feb. 2, from Ventura Harley and have put around 900 miles on it so far. I live in Moorpark so you know what roads I have been burning up. Balcom Canyon to South Mountain Road . . . . Santa Paula to Ojai on 150 . . . Ojai up 33 to the top of Ventura County at 7,000 ft. and back home.

Of course there is always a stop at the Deer Lodge for some refreshments and the waitresses, some of the hottest California babes! Eye candy that is much appreciated by these middle aged eyes.

I put on a lay-back / relocation kit by Easy Brackets and a detachable sissy bar / luggage rack so I can get the hell out of town and enjoy a weekend road trip. ( see attached ).

I’ll keep you posted as the mods keep coming.

BIKERNET SEAT CONTEST WINNER–We posted a light contest since we were faced with two seat builds, and both had something to do with Veterans. Shirley’s Zanelli’s seat was build to support a veteran’s charity effort directly and it received the most votes, so she gets the trophy.

Now I need to sequester my ass in our steaming hot shop and build the trophy. I’ll bring you reports in the near future. Here’s a link to the story.

THE BILLY LANE ARCHIVES– Here’s a couple of shots from Hawaii back in 2004. The shot of Billy is when we were all out riding and he blew the motor up on the old Pan (Larry tried to talk him into loading it into the truck) and Billy being Billy decided towing would be a better idea – so Jay Hodge towed him back to North Shore. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when he stood up on his seat at around 70 miles an hour whilst being towed . Unfortunately, no photos of that – bummer!

RELATIONSHIP COUNSELING FROM SIN WU– This is how the fight started…

A man and a woman were asleep like two innocent babies. Suddenly, at 3 o’clock in the morning, a loud noise came from outside.

The woman, sort of bewildered, jumped up from the bed and yelled at the man ‘Holy Shit! That must be my husband!’

So the guy quickly jumped out of the bed, scared and naked he jumped out the window like a crazy man. He smashed himself on the ground, ran through a thorn bush, then started to run as fast as he could to his car. A few minutes later he returned and went up to the bedroom and screamed at the woman ‘I AM your husband, you slut!’

The woman yelled back, ‘Yeah??? Then why were you running….you Son of a Bitch !!!’

And that folks…………is how the fight started.
