BIKERNET NEWS FLASH–GUSSET JEANS ROAD TESTS NEW HARLEYS

sporty motor

I’m still trying to wake up. For the past two days the Bikernet crew had the austere opportunity to blaze to Buelton California and ride a selection of new 2004 Harleys that will be released to the public in Milwaukee at the 100th celebration. Harley’s new moto relvolves around the next 100 years and from the looks of the line-up, they’ll continue to rock. Rubbermounted Sportsters with 150 tires and major performance upgrade are high on the list for 2004.

Of course I wore my Diamond Gusset jeans and road tested them on the back roads of the California wine country. Not a bad jig. Let’s get to the news. I’ll touch more on the model launch later.

buzz standing

Here’s the famous Buzz Buzzelli, the editor of American Rider, standing beside a 2004 883. The factory did an admirable job of maintaining the classic look of the Sportster while making significant changes. Note his comfortable stance. Both Buzz and I were sporting our Gusset jeans while on the road. Oh, by the way, we’ll run down the entire new line of Harleys in the next week or so:

BIKERNET ENGLISH LESSON– A high school teacher in Kentucky asked her students to use the word “fascinate” in a sentence.

Molly said, “My family went to my granddaddy’s farm, and we saw all his pet sheep. It was fascinating.” The teacher said, “That was good, but I wanted you to use the word “fascinate”.

Sally raised her hand. She said, “My family went to See Rock City and I was fascinated.” The teacher said, “Well, that was good, Sally, but I want the word “fascinate”.

Little Johnny raised his hand. The teacher hesitat! ed because Little Johnny was noted for his bad language. She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word “fascinate”, so she called on him.

Johnny said, “My cousin’s wife has a sweater with ten buttons, but hertits are so big, she can only fasten eight.”

The teacher cried.

FLATHEAD POWER KNUCKLEHEAD– H?r kommer bild 1 och en liten grej jag har skrivit om cykeln.Fredrik.

This is a genuine “Lightning” Knucklehead with a factory hot cam and factory ported heads “Y”-heads, only available to people with factory conections in -36 and -37. The motor is marked as a low compression engine, and oddly they did that on sport jobs in the late thirties, so of the initial 151 E-models built, probably not more than 30 of these was of the “Lightning” variety.

On the pictures the side stand is wrong (leg is too long) – I have found a correct one and will install that as well as the super rare early “squarish” crash bars. Apart from this the bike is 100% correct down to the motor internals, early pinion shaft, early valve covers (baby food jars), early style conrods, lightening gears etc. etc. Even the air horn is of the extremely rare 1937 only variety, as well as the handlebars (36-37 standard bars) The bike is also 100% restored, and it runs beautifully, great handling (frame and forks has been professionally straightened)and a bike that would outrun any bike of that era.

I also have an immaculate extra set of 37 “Y”-heads (the factory ported ones) a set of 36-37 rocker arms, 36-37 shafts, a complete set of the early rocker arm covers (the retrofit version for the 36-37 heads), really difficult to find. I also have an extra NOS 36-38 Pinion shaft, pushrods, standard bore 4-fin cylinderes and more. These parts will accompany the bike.

INSURANCE FOR BUSINESS IMPACTED BY ENRON– The D&O industry has never moved so fast and furiously. New regulations, new products, coverage issues, and court rulings raise new issues, questions and concerns seemingly daily. Rumor and misperceptions are rampant. Sound, reliable information on D&O liability and coverage issues is essential. And that is precisely what United Western Insurance Brokers through the use of American International Companies’ D&O Update. The Storm Builds:

D&O Claims Set To Get Far Worse:Recent developments in the main securities class action lawsuit against Enron Corp. show D&O claims becoming nothing short of cataclysmic. Consider these recently released facts:

The lead plaintiffs counsel, Bill Lerach, has asserted he could prove damages up to $500 billion and has demanded $44 billion to settle.Banks may also face potentially catastrophic losses: Enron’s trustee and its creditors are considering suing Enron’s lenders for something approximating participation in Enron’s fraud. Recently, an 18-month investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office culminated in Citigroup and J.P. Morgan Chase agreeing to pay more than $300 million to settle charges that they helped Enron Corp. cheat investors out of billions of dollars . Commentators have opined that if the allegations are true, the banks could be facing potential settlements with plaintiffs in the $10’s of billions of dollars, an outcome that would take securities class action settlements to a new and disturbing level. If the banks settle for the amounts that commentators are projecting, the settlements will likely be in excess of available insurance.

This is just the beginning. The litigation fallout from the many other corporate fraud scandals of recent years are simultaneously following this situation. Clearly, the stage is set for severity of class action securities-claims to rise to new, astronomical heights. The financial strength and market commitment of D&O insurers will be tested as never before.

Talk to United Western Insurance Brokers if you need assistance to evaluate the Public or Private D & O Coverage your company is considering. We provide Non-Profit D & O Coverage Consultations too.

BIKERNET REVIEWS NEW 2004 POLICE CRUISERS–Our brother Snake snuck into a show where new police cruisers and equipment are studied and tested. He was returned to the headquarters in the back of a San Pedro black and white, his hands bound with tie-wraps and duck-tape across his mouth. His camera was destroyed and only a shot of this test cruiser was stuck in his pocket.

We can’t get him to whisper a word about what happened.
