Hey,

I tried to take the bearings out of our little old spool front wheel hub for the peashooter. They wouldn’t budge. I took it to Larry Settle’s shop in Harbor City, and Travis pulled them in a hot flash with the JIMS special tool.
I’m going to replace the bearings in the Assalt Weapan before we leave for the salt. Speaking of the Assalt Weapan, we attempted to make final Pegasus tuning adjustments on Friday at Bennett’s Performance. After a couple of passes it started puking oil out of the breathers. Eric performed a quick compression test and discovered 210 pound in the front cylinder and 165 in the rear.
I was back at Bennett’s Saturday morning and by noon we pulled the rear head, noticed some scuffing and chipped compression rings. We may have a bad batch of rings, so we pulled the front cylinder and called Berry Wardlaw, of Accurate Engineering, our master engine builder, who was still lounging around the Badlands. He’s all over the case pulling parts and shipping us a quick over-night care package on Monday.
The Assalt Weapan needs to be back together on Friday for final tuning before we hit the salt the following week. Let’s hit the news, then I’ll unload my Peashooter update.

GO GREEN FROM THE BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER: Simple Water Saver– Each Sunday in August we present a simple way to help you and your family “go green.” We encourage you to give each suggestion a try!
For most of the United States, and especially in the desert states, there is only so much water to go around. You can help lower your water bills and conserve water for future use with this one, simple step: Turn off the faucet when you brush your teeth. This can save hundreds of gallons per month, with no sacrifice required. A simple step to a healthier planet!
NEWS FROM THE FCC– “If somebody has a bad heart, they can plug this jack in at night as they go to bed, and it will monitor their heart throughout the night. And the next morning, when they wake up dead, there’ll be a record.”
–Mark S. Fowler, FCC Chairman

It’s great you are picking this up. You’re a natural. Here’s why, you are left-handed and you have that jewelry/belt buckle knack. Some of the best welders I’ve ever seen lay down metal whether Stick, Mig, or Tig (Heli-Arc) were left handed. Heli-Arc is fucking Art!! Always try to make the next weld bead better than the last, remember it’s your signature.
So now what we need to do is get you welding aluminum. Welding castings, heads, cases, etc. It really expands the skill set.

A BROTHER’S LAST RIDE– Believing that it won’t be long before he takes his last ride, an elderly biker makes a pilgrimage to his favorite Nevada brothel and tells the madam he would like a young girl for the night.
Surprised, the madam looks at the ancient graybeard and asks how old he is.
“I’m 90 years old,” he replies.
“90!” exclaims the woman. “Don’t you realize you’ve had it?”
“Oh, sorry,” says the old man. “How much do I owe you?”

We really appreciated the California H-D / Indian exhibit, and everyone else who supported and joined us.
We had about 1,500 paid attendance for the 1-day Show. It was about break even for Gianatsis Design.
My partner the Queen Mary keeps all the parking revenue and 1/3rd of the $25 ea. spectator gate to cover their costs. It probably was break even for them as well
With the industries’ loss of all the custom bike companies, manufacturers and sponsors due to the economy, we were at an $18,000 loss going into the Show after marketing and production costs vs. Vendor and Sponsor income. So the spectator admissions just brought us even. While, of course, people have always complained of the $25 admission price being too high (the price of a weekly movie, pop cord and soda). Yet those same people have no problem planning their annual vacations to go to Sturgis or Laughlin and spending much more.
But all the cheaper bike events like Hollister for free, or Hot Bike and Bakersfield for $15-20 have all gone out of business.
I see the Love Ride is trying a new come-back strategy this year. Just 1,000 VIP tickets at $100 each.
They probably won’t pull many vendors at all for a ride to 3-4 hour concert show, and certainly no manufacturers.
At this point I do plan on going ahead for 2011 and celebrating the LA Calendar Motorcycle Show’s 20th anniversary.
I will have to look how we can reduce production costs further while maintaining the same great quality of the Show and a great location.
I hope all our supporters realize that, beyond the attendance numbers, the additional press/publicity value the Calendar Show provides your companies, with your banner ads on the FastDates.com Website, your logo/website in our national advertising campaign in motorcycle magazines and on tens of thousands of flyers distributed to all the motorcycle dealers in the Southwest, and how it supports the SoCal motorcycle community, is important to all of us to keep the motorcycle market in Southern California, the motorcycle capital of America, alive!
Thanks again to all for your past support. And I hope I can count on your continued support at the same level for next year.
I will include your company in our 2011 marketing for the Calendar Show at the same level, unless I hear from you otherwise

Outrage of the Week: San Francisco Bans Guns … for Movie Poster Cops?!– San Francisco is well known for its fog. But while the sunshine sometimes cuts through fog in the atmosphere, one fog that rarely seems to lift is the fog of anti-gun thinking. Twice, the city has tried to ban handguns, and been turned back by court challenges. The city’s public housing authority also had to be sued to end its ban on gun possession by public housing residents. And the NRA is currently backing a challenge to the city’s gun storage law, which requires city residents to store their handguns in locked containers or disabled with trigger locks.
But as if all that weren’t enough, SF Weekly blogs reported this week that the city of San Francisco’s Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) doesn’t allow advertisements with guns in them. Specifically, SFMTA advertising policy regarding firearms says, “Advertising on Municipal Transportation Agency (“MTA”) property, or as authorized under any contract with the MTA, constitutes a nonpublic forum. No such advertisement shall: … appear to promote the use of firearms.”

2011 FORD HARLEY-DAVIDSON F-150 IS MOST POWERFUL,
CAPABLE EDITION EVER OFFERED WITH 6.2-LITER ENGINE– 2011 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 combines the smooth handling and legendary durability of America’s best-selling line of trucks with the authentic styling of Harley-Davidson
A new 6.2-liter V8 engine is now standard, making it the most powerful and capable Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 ever offered. The engine, which debuted earlier this year on the 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor, delivers 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque and maximum trailer tow capacity of 9,300 pounds
New standard content for 2011 includes the voice-activated Navigation System, a 4.2-inchproductivity screen, power moon roof and Remote Start System
Buffalo Chip, S.D., Aug. 12 2010 – The 2011 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 combines two rich traditions into an extraordinary package for customers who crave capability and long for the open road. With authentic styling, a new standard 6.2-liter V8 engine and plenty of technology upgrades, it’s the most powerful and capable Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 yet.
“The new 2011 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 perfectly blends the flexibility and capability of F-Series trucks with the free spirit of Harley-Davidson® motorcycles,” said Eric Kuehn, chief engineer. “Both companies have a passion for the road, which shines through in our specialized truck.”
The successful collaboration between these two icons of the open road has produced nine F-150 models, as well as six Super Duty F-250 and F-350 models, and in 2009, the first Harley-Davidson F-450 edition truck.
The exterior of the 2011 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 offers a bold front fascia and six-bar shaped billet-style satin chrome grille and boasts “Harley-Davidson” satin chrome badging. The truck also has a lowered appearance because of a standard, fully integrated deployable running board.
Also standard are 22-inch Euro flange forged wheels with a polished center wheel cap and low profile performance tires. The paint selection is classic Harley-Davidson – Tuxedo Black and Ingot Silver.
New graphics on the hood and body side of the truck are executed in an engine-turned finish and feature dimensional satin chrome “Harley-Davidson” lettering. The graphics are reminiscent of the “speed scallops” used on hot rods.
Interior trim panels are covered in Tuxedo Black paint, while the door scuff plate and console lid also carry the engine-turned finish. All interior chrome surfaces feature a new satin finish. Premium leather-trimmed seats come with accent color inserts and a unique cloisonné badge.
New engine, more power
Ford tapped into a bit of its proud racing heritage to create the new 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine, which uses big-bore architecture to produce impressive horsepower and torque. The new gasoline engine delivers 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque and provides improved maximum trailer towing capacity of 9,300 pounds.
“This engine has tons of torque and already has been proven in the field with both the F-150 SVT Raptor and Super Duty,” said Mike Harrison, V8 engine program manager. “The exhaust for the Ford Harley-Davidson edition has been specially tuned to feature a throaty V8 rumble customers will love.”
Taking convenience to the next level
The 2011 Ford Harley-Davidson T F-150 adds plenty of technology options to give customers what they are looking for. Key to helping customers take advantage of all the capability offered by the Harley-Davidson F-150 is a standard 4.2-inch LCD (liquid crystal display) productivity screen.
This screen offers menu options, giving the customer important information related to fuel economy and towing performance. The menu is navigated through a five-way button on the steering wheel and is positioned between the tachometer and speedometer.
Additionally, the 2011 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 comes equipped with a standard voice activated Navigation System that integrates several functions including voice-recognition destination entry, climate control and SIRIUS® Satellite Radio into one easy-to-use system, displaying them on an 8-inch touch screen.

Long Gun Registration Bill Advances to Senate Floor for Consideration– It Is Imperative That Your Contact Your State Senator Immediately!
Thursday, August 12, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed Assembly Bill 1810. The bill now heads to the Senate floor for consideration. This could be your last opportunity to stop long gun registration in the Golden State. Because it has already passed the Assembly, the bill’s next stop, if passed by the Senate, would be the desk of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R)!
AB1810 would establish a registration system, similar to the one currently in place for handguns, for all newly-acquired long guns. Under AB1810, the make, model and serial number of the firearm as well as the identifying information of the purchaser would be recorded and kept on file by the California Attorney General’s office.
If AB1810 were enacted, violent criminals would continue doing what they do now – obtain firearms through illegal means. This bill would not decrease crime but will rather have disastrous effects on the already financially unstable Golden State. AB1810 would impose additional burdens on California’s taxpayers to maintain the registration system as well as on the state’s licensed firearms dealers, small businesses who already deal with extensive business requirements.
One simply needs to look at Canada, a nation with draconian firearms registration, to see the results – billions in cumulative administrative costs, annual cost overruns, no clear substantiation of public safety benefits, unjust prosecution, and a bureaucratic complexity that daunts those willing to comply. Ironically, California is considering a new registration scheme as Canada is considering doing away with its system.
Please contact your State Senator AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and respectfully voice your opposition to AB1810.

BUSY CRIMINALS LLC PARTNERED WITH FAMILIES OF FLIGHT 93– New York, NY, July 21, 2010 — All the Busy Criminals LLC has partnered with the Families of Flight 93 to develop an integrated social-media campaign to increase awareness and generate funds to help build the Flight 93 National Memorial, near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
At the heart of the campaign is Ride With the 40 (RW40), a motorcycle rally that completes the route United Flight 93 was scheduled to take on September 11, 2001, from Newark Liberty International Airport to San Francisco International Airport. In 2009, Ken Nacke and others who lost loved ones on Flight 93 completed the first RW40. Among the 40 passengers and crewmembers, Nacke’s brother, Louis “Joey” Nacke II, was one of several who attacked the hijackers and prevented the plane from hitting its intended target, believed to be the U.S. Capitol.
The original RW40 consisted of six “core” riders and raised $125,000. In March 2010, All the Busy Criminals (ABC), an integrated-media collective, joined with the Families of Flight 93 (F0F93) to expand the scope of RW40 in 2010 and 2011. In addition to drawing in hundreds of riders nationwide, the new program will employ strategic digital-media initiatives, social activation, and grassroots engagement strategies. The fundraising goal for RW40 2010 is $1 million, which would represent a significant contribution toward the $30 million in donations sought by the Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign.
“When we first set off in 2009 we never imagined the enormous grassroots support our Memorial Ride would encourage,” says Ken Nacke. “Across the entire country, thousands of people came out spontaneously in support of our efforts. Our partnership with ABC allows us to take our shared passion to the next level and maximize awareness of and fundraising for the campaign.”
“We are honored to be working in close partnership with the Families of Flight 93,” says Catherine Patterson, ABC Founder and Executive Producer of ABC. “In taking this powerful grassroots effort into the integrated digital media space, we seek to commemorate the heroes of 9/11 in wholly new ways, educate the nation further about the events of that terrible but memorable day, while simultaneously expanding the existing fundraising base for the Flight 93 National Memorial via previously untapped

FIRE UP THE BARBECUE–I’m scrambling on the Peashooter. I need to set up the rear wheel with an ISR sprotor brake, from LA Choprods, today. If all goes well, by the end of the day the rear wheel will be mounted, the rear fender, the engine, and trans. I’m dreaming, but it’s possible, goddamnit. Then I will just need the paint, the primary belt system, and BSA parts from Classic Cycles in Anahiem, California.
Actually, what I need is for this 1926 bastard to run.

I wish everyone a safe trip home from the Badlands. My scramble for Bonneville becomes more precarious by the day, but what the hell. You only go around once, gotta give it all you have. I would like to thank all the brothers and sisters who reached out to help us. We couldn’t get this far without them, like Terry Lee at Envy Cycle for the Peashooter Fairing, Jim Murillo for Peashooter paint, Eric Bennett at Bennett’s Performance in Long Beach, Berry Wardlaw from Accurate, Gard Hollinger, from LA Choprods, Shotgun for vintage parts, Mil Blair and Steward Prince, from Pegasus Fuel injection, Dave Rash, the Boss of D&D Exhaust, Nyla, the Bikernet Queen, for all the planning and run preparation.
I know I’m leaving a bunch out, like the kid, Nick, who helped me learn TIG welding and welded up the bottom of our Peashooter gas tank. Ray Wheeler, helped with some Assalt Weapan aerodynamics, and is our Weapan pilot this year. Nicole is flying from Australia to ride the Peashooter, so the bastard better run.
I’m going to work on a Bonneville report next week and get that bastard posted before we hit the highways for Bonneville. It may not make any sense, but I’ll endeavor to pour my heart out about this scrambled year and these efforts.
In the meantime, I need to hit the shop hard.
Ride Forever,
–Bandit
