The Buffalo Chip is one step closer to becoming the newest municipality in South Dakota. The Meade County Commission today accepted the petition presented by registered voters for incorporation. The registered voters and founding members of Buffalo Chip, SD will vote in an election to make the incorporation official on May 7, 2015. Buffalo Chip, SD may well be operating as a municipality before the 75th Anniversary of the rally this August.
The idea of incorporation was first presented to encourage economic development and business friendly environment that will benefit the entire region. The new municipality aims to provide investors a heightened level of stability and help bolster future area growth.
“We are all excited about the opportunity to become the town of Buffalo Chip, SD,” said Rod Woodruff, President of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. “We are reaching out to strengthen our relationship with our neighbor, the city of Sturgis, and other nearby governmental entities, so that we can work together on a plan that will benefit everyone. Our goal is to promote economic growth in this whole region, not just within Buffalo Chip.”
Future Town of Buffalo Chip residents were excited to hear about today’s events. Most had been working to promote incorporation for many months.
“This is great news!” said Buffalo Chip resident, Greg Smith. “I’m very proud to be one of the first residents of Buffalo Chip, SD. This is a beautiful area and I’ve been calling it home for years now. I can’t wait to use Buffalo Chip, SD in my address.
