Hey,
Back from Born Free, but my son and grandson are riding out again today. It just dawned on me the date. Life is flying by and dammit Sturgis is coming right up.

I need to fly on my Panhead. We need to finish Frank’s Dyna and monkey with our little Chopper for Frankie to ride around Sturgis. Christian just bought a ’92 Café Sporty with 7,000 miles on the clock for 4 grand. It had 19-inch wheels front and rear. What a kick. Check it out.
This year we drive and take bikes. Last year I rode both ways. I spoke to Arlen Ness and he’s riding out after taking a couple of years off. Wow. We need to rock and roll. Let’s hit the news. I should spend the rest of the day in the shop.

OLD GEARHEAD STORY–
It is just amazing that us old guys of the old school have a story like that one or one of the Captain America bikes .The one I have is on the Streets of Fire bike built by Eddie Paul.
I had a friend many years ago buy a either fire engine red or candy apple red pan, I can’t remember. We know that in old guys, memory is the second thing to go downhill.
Burn told me he had bought a sweet custom chopper. I told some of my buds about it. They lived local in the South Bay area . The reply I got back from them was to stay away from that old suicide Panhead.
It was built in El Segundo with reconditioned spare parts and the wiring was a full blown nightmare. Some of us went to the Old miners days in Big Bear back around 1980, plus or minus a year or two.
Burn had problems with the bike . We were almost there. We checked the points when we got there, we took the Bendix apart. Still got the same cut-out problem. Burn goes, “ Now what?”
“I got an idea,” I said.
“What?” said Burn.
“We hot wire it,” I said.
Burn said, “How do we do that ?”
I said, “Give me about 2 feet of 14 or 16 gauge wire and let me do some magic.”
Working in the auto shop at school and working in a garage after I got of from my regular job, I picked up the skill. We got it done and Burn was off and running.
I told him don’t shut it off and get down the hill and home before dark. You won’t have running lights or brake lights so stay in front and use hand signals.
We got home and I haven’t seen Burn in years. I always wanted to thank Texas Fred for the heads up on that bike.

CRYSTAL GAYLE CELEBRATES 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF “DON’T IT MAKE MY BROWN EYES BLUE”– NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Rarely do first takes on a song become the master tracks for an artist, but that’s how chart-topping history began for Crystal Gayle’s “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” Now, four decades later, Gayle’s signature hit marks its 40th anniversary since its release on June 24, 1977.
“I did not re-sing it. It just fell into place beginning with Pig Robbins’ opening work on the piano. It was magic in the studio that day,” Gayle said with a smile.
“Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” opened the world’s eyes to Gayle. The crossover smash earned her a Grammy® Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and also made her album We Must Believe In Magic the first by a female country artist to go platinum. She was awarded CMA Female Vocalist of the Year in 1977 and 1978, and the Academy of Country Music honored her with the same award in 1976, 1977 and 1979.
“It opened up so many doors that I couldn’t do everything that was offered for me to do. I was offered so many television specials. I hated turning anything down. It was only me, and I couldn’t do it all. To be in California one night, and they would want you the next night in New York — I couldn’t do that constantly. But I did as much as I could,” she told Billboard in 2014.
“Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” became an iconic staple and solidified her as one of the top female vocalists during the 1970s and 1980s. Gayle is currently putting the finishing touches on a new album that will include some of her favorite classic country songs of all time.

GUN NUT REPORT– Mainstream Media Misrepresents NRA’s Position on Right-to-Carry Permits
There is an ongoing debate as to the severity of the decline in the modern attention span. However, in a world pervaded by 140 character messages and trivial clickbait articles, few would argue that many are now consuming information more rapidly and in smaller pieces. In this environment, an article’s headline has become increasingly important, taking an outsized role in conveying the information within.
Therefore, when a headline contains misleading information, whether due to political motivation or simple inaccuracy, it is not without consequence.
Take the following,
“The NRA is pushing to eliminate concealed carry permits in NC and across the country” – The News & Observer (Raleigh, N.C.), June 20, 2017.
“Bill to nix N. Carolina’s concealed-carry permit causes rift” – The Associated Press, June 6, 2017.
“Bill would drop concealed carry permits” – The Richmond County Daily Journal (Rockingham, N.C.), June 5, 2017.
“Senate votes to eliminate concealed gun permits” – The Anniston Star (Anniston, Ala.), April 18, 2017.
“Legislature debates guns; committee approves proposed bill to eliminate concealed-carry permit” – The Telegraph (Nashua, N.H.), January 11, 2017.
These headlines give readers the impression that NRA-ILA and state lawmakers are working to abolish Right-to-Carry permits.
Urge your US Senators and US Representative to Support Concealed Carry Reciprocity!
Please contact your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative and urge them to cosponsor and support passage of S.446 — the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017– in the Senate, and H.R.38 — the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017– in the House.
This is false.
NRA-ILA supports shall-issue Right-to-Carry permitting. NRA-ILA also supports providing law-abiding individuals with additional options to exercise their Right-to-Carry, including legislation to allow such persons to carry without a permit; often called permitless or constitutional carry.
These positions are not mutually exclusive. In each state where NRA-ILA has worked with lawmakers to enact permitless/constitutional carry legislation, the Right-to-Carry permitting regime has been kept in place. In states such as Idaho, and Mississippi, in recent years NRA-ILA has helped to strengthen the existing Right-to-Carry permit structures by passing legislation providing for enhanced carry permits that allow the holder to carry in additional locations, and worked to pass legislation that recognizes the Right-to-Carry without a permit.
The only state with permitless/constitutional carry and no Right-to-Carry permitting regime is Vermont. This arrangement is unique to the Green Mountain State and due to the fact that Vermonters have never imposed a state restriction on the right of a law-abiding individuals to carry for self-defense.
A major reason NRA-ILA is adamant about preserving existing permitting systems, even in states that have embraced permitless/constitutional carry, is that permit holders enjoy benefits that extend well beyond carrying a concealed firearm within their home state.
Right-to-Carry Reciprocity
Increasing Right-to-Carry reciprocity among the states is a vital NRA-ILA policy goal. NRA is currently working to enact National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity legislation that would require a given state to recognize the Right-to-Carry permits issued by all other states. In a recent interview with the National Journal, NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox called National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity NRA-ILA’s “No.1 legislative priority.”
(We are closer than ever to making national reciprocity a reality, but we need your help to succeed! Please contact your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative and urge them to cosponsor and support passage of S.446– the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017– in the Senate, and H.R.38 — the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017– in the House. You can contact your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative by phone at (202) 224-3121, or click here to Take Action.)
In the meantime, NRA-ILA is hard at work to facilitate and encourage unilateral and bilateral Right-to-Carry recognition between the states. Moreover, in states like Virginia, NRA has worked to pass legislation providing outright recognition for Right-to-Carry permits from all other jurisdictions.
Eliminating a state’s Right-to-Carry permitting structure would throw the existing reciprocity framework into disarray, strip current carry permit holders of this important protection, and deprive gun owners in a permitless/constitutional carry state the ability to use a permit in order to carry throughout other portions of the country. Once again, NRA is for expanding options and opportunities for those who seek to exercise their Right-to-Carry, not eliminating them.
Washington State Council of Clubs & US Defenders SPEAK OUT– The Washington State Council of Clubs (WACOC) and US Defenders (USD), organizations representing the interests of thousands of motorcycle club members and motorcyclists in the state, is outraged by recent news reports quoting representatives of the Washington State Patrol (WSP) accusing an unnamed member of the Diplomatz Motorcycle Club for a recent string of motorcycle thefts in Spokane.
No evidence is offered to support these accusations other than reference to the Diplomatz association with “outlaw motorcycle clubs.”
The WSP’s statements are discriminatory and are diametrically opposed to the law addressing motorcycle profiling unanimously approved by the Washington State Legislature in 2011. Promoting discriminatory stereotypes is philosophically inconsistent with constitutional principles and also very dangerous. Stereotypes can drive law enforcement threat assessments and even deadly force.
Background- WSP Targets Diplomatz MC
On June 14, 2017 KREM News released a story titled, “Spokane high end motorcycle thefts believed to be by the Diplomatz Motorcycle Club.” The article begins by quoting the WSP:
“We have a group of individuals that has been targeting more of the high end sport bikes,”said Washington State Patrol Trooper, Jeff Sevigney.
But quickly the story begins making baseless accusations about the Diplomatz MC by promoting discriminatory stereotypes about motorcycle clubs. No facts are offered. Only conjecture intended to prejudice the general public and others in law enforcement.
WSP believes a member of the Diplomatz Motorcycle Club is behind the thefts.
“This particular group is associated with other outlaw motorcycle gangs that we’re aware of. We have detectives that’s all they do is track these groups and the criminal enterprises that they’re involved with,” said Trooper Sevigney.
Without offering any proof whatsoever, these motorcycle thefts are being blamed on a member of a club because the club he belongs to associates with other motorcycle clubs. This is irresponsible and condemns an entire club, and even an entire community, without a shred of evidence, merely by invoking the phrase “outlaw motorcycle club.”
Diplomatz MC Strongly Objects to WSP Accusations.
The founder of the Diplomatz MC denies any involvement in any illegal activity and strongly objects to the WSP targeting his club and media sources perpetuating sensationalism. According to the founder:
“The Diplomatz MC was established in 2011. Our club promotes positivity and community involvement within the motorcycle community. We annually participate in breast cancer, lung cancer, and diabetes awareness. We also participate in feeding the homeless and back to school drives.”
The accusations also make little sense considering the motorcycles that most Diplomatz MC members ride. The Diplomatz “mostly ride American made Harley, Victory, or Indians.”
WSP Promoting Stereotypes Leads to Dangerous Policing
The WSP’s statements to the media regarding the Diplomatz is not only prejudicial, these statements also put members of the Diplomatz in potential danger. The constant barrage of negative stereotyping relating to bikers logically contributes to how motorcyclists are profiled and treated on the side of the road. Many motorcyclists are treated by police as if they are dangerous, even during simple traffic stops.
A study conducted at the University of Chicago in 2007 concluded that stereotypes in the newspaper reinforces a danger bias in the reader influencing the decision to shoot a target, even an unarmed target. The study says:
“In the domain of criminal justice, category-based judgments can have profound consequences through….the spontaneous, split-second reactions of a police officer.”
Negative stereotypes in the media increase the perception of danger in real life situations. To the extent that targets seem more dangerous, “they should promote a tendency to shoot, facilitating correct responses for armed targets but inhibiting correct responses for unarmed targets.” 1
The Diplomatz are Constitutionally Protected
Motorcycle clubs, including the Diplomatz, that are labeled outlaw clubs or gangs by LE, are 1st Amendment protected associations.
“In fact, the Supreme Court has long “disapproved governmental action . . . denying rights and privileges solely because of a citizen’s association with an unpopular organization.” Healy v. James, 408 U.S. 169, 185-86 (1972).
To permit law enforcement officers to vilify an entire club:
“without regard to or knowledge of that individual’s specific intent to engage in the alleged violent activities committed by other members, is antithetical to the basic principles enshrined in the First Amendment and repugnant to the fundamental doctrine of personal guilt that is a hallmark of American jurisprudence.”2
WSP Should Issue a Public Apology
The WSP should issue an official apology to the Diplomatz MC and the entire motorcycle community for promoting discriminatory stereotypes through media connections. Media bias promotes unconstitutional and dangerous behavior inconsistent with the goals of Washington State and the US Constitution.

BOOK REVIEW, Harbor Town Seduction–
To start off I found this book to have a good story line with a twist or two. It was the type of book that once you start in it I hard to put down.
The main character, Chance Hogan is modeled after a well-known figure and that becomes evident after only a few pages. Many authors need to do extensive research before putting together a book and sometimes that makes the story not flow, as it should.
This is not the case here as many of the adventures or misadventures are perhaps drawn from the authors own experiences and enhanced to fit the story. This makes for more realistic and descriptive prose as it slides from one bit of action to the next. I refrain from going too far into the plot so not to spoil it for someone else.
It’s been a while since I did a book review but suffice to say this book is well worth the read and those of us who do ride can identify to a point. I look forward to reading the next installment

Oh yeah, just to let ya all know A little bit more than half of this story is complete bullshit. I should know, I lived it. Jim was good man I got some of my traits from him I am the blond haired kid in the pic of the cabin.
Oh yeah Jim was long gone when the pigs set the cabin on fire Nice story but not true. If 5-ball wants to hear the real deal he should shit can against the wind story and talk to me and make an offer that I can’t refuse.
My mother wrote the book and script about James Harold hood. Tarantino is out there but not as far out as the Jim hood story. And if rug was really Eric hood he would have commented by now. What it is, is that someone or something .gov are fishing in the desert and really don’t know wtf happened, except for when the bullet came out of the pigs gun.
Jim always had a bic pen on him but the dumb fucks don’t know why. How do you think he got away so many times take the inside of the pin out bite a little tab on the end of the tube and you have a key. He showed us kids that trick when we were young, but the pigs don’t want to tell you his trick because there asses are chapped. That’s why they shot him in the back of his head when he reached for his pen. He was just getting ready to get away from them again.
They were hotter than that warming gun in that pigs hand at that very moment. How’s that for in-your-fucking-face right here right now.

FROM THE MOTORCYCLE PROFILING PROJECT– Motorcycle Clubs Successfully Pressure State Farm to Change Policy?
The MPP is pleased to report that the National Council of Clubs (NCOC) has successfully pressured State Farm Insurance to clarify that, as of June 19, 2017, it is no longer State Farm policy to deny coverage to “businesses engaged with motorcycle clubs.” Although decisions to insure any business, including motorcycle clubs, are made on a case by case basis, State Farm says it has no general policy to deny coverage to businesses engaged with motorcycle clubs.
The NCOC approached State Farm because of a letter dated February 27, 2017 from State Farm denying coverage to a Veteran’s motorcycle club because “we don’t provide coverage for businesses engaged with motorcycle clubs.” State Farm’s original response was vague and avoided the explicit questions being asked by the NCOC, so the NCOC continued to press State Farm for clarification on its policy concerning motorcycle clubs.
The June 19, 2017 response from State Farm is, with one exception, clear and concise. There is still one question that has not been clarified. The original letter dated February 27, 2017 explicitly states that “we do not provide coverage to businesses engaged with motorcycle clubs.” This statement in the February 27, 2017 letter is plainly stated and incontrovertible.
Clearly, according to the June 19th response, this is not State Farm policy any longer.
Did State Farm change this policy after the February 27th letter or was the February 27th letter an inaccurate statement of State Farm policy?
Regardless, State Farm is now explicitly embracing the MPP’s fight against profiling and discrimination as evidenced by the following:
June 19, 2017
The National Council of Clubs,
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding business insurance coverage. While we are not able to discuss the specifics of any particular application or customer’s policy information, due to our customer privacy policy, we would like to clear up any misunderstandings.
To be clear, it is not State Farm’s policy to deny coverage to businesses engaged with motorcycle clubs. We offer a variety of business insurance options to help small businesses succeed. However, as previously stated, for clubs and organizations seeking business insurance, including motorcycle clubs, we review each applicant’s eligibility individually. Some organizations may or may not be eligible for coverage. Again, we are not able to discuss the specifics of any particular application, however, we can tell you that it is not State Farm’s policy to deny coverage to businesses engaged with motorcycle clubs.
Additionally, State Farm supports the motorcycle community, and offers individual motorcycle coverage for eligible vehicles licensed for use on public roads. For more information, please see our website.
We appreciate all you do along with other projects that aim to address profiling and discrimination. At State Farm, we’re committed to an inclusive environment where all our associates and customers are treated with respect and dignity, and differences are valued.
Sincerely,
Executive Customer Service Public Affairs

A proud and confident professor makes a bet with an under-performing student. The professor says, “Every question I ask you that you don’t know the answer, you have to give me $5. And if you ask me a question and I can’t answer yours, I will give you $5,000.
The student agrees and the professor asks, “How many continents are there in the world?”
The student doesn’t know and hands over the $5. The student says, “Now my turn, what animal stands with two legs but sleeps with three?”
The professor thinks very hard for the answer, but his face falls as he gives up and hands over the $5000. He says, “Wow, I lost. I must know, what was the answer to your question?”
Smiling, the student hands over $5

A prolific song writer, she has seen her ups and downs on her journey towards becoming a successful, independent musician. It’s been a long road. I had an originals band that played all over Sydney and Newcastle but it’s very hard for original artists.
“You have to stay positive and believe in your music,” says Kim. “It feels like it’s taken forever but to finally have the opportunity to release my own music has been well worth the wait. I?m incredibly proud of the results.”
Her raw sound and husky vocals have elicited comparisons to artists including Melissa Etheridge, Joan Jett, Chrissie Amphlett, Patti Smith and Marianne Faithful.
THUNDER RUN, the debut single from Kim Smith and from the forthcoming EP of the same name, was written as a tribute to a close friend. “My friend Dale was like family to me and sadly he passed away in 2011,” says Kim.
The music video clip for the single was filmed at the Catherine Hill Bay Hotel, directed by Shaun-Anthony Robinson and produced by Jason Kaosâ Hodge. It can be viewed on the Kim Smith website at: www.kimsmithrockmusic.com.au/video

TALE OF TWO CITIES POLICE REFORM–
Generally the time when most of us encounter the police is during a traffic stop, which can be one of the most stressful times for both the motorist and an officer in blue. In recent years, law enforcement has been under fire due to escalation during traffic stops and other public encounters.
Many cities across the country are working on police reform and trying to come to grips with institutionalized racial profiling.
Providence, Rhode Island recently worked with community groups to make a wholesale change in police interactions with the public. The City of Chicago though seems to be in some sort of perpetual police reform chaos.
In April, the Providence City Council unanimously approved one of the most visionary set of policing reforms proposed around the country that protects both civil rights and civil liberties. The Community Safety Act (CSA) took three years of sustained community mobilization and advocacy.
According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), the most notable facet of the CSA is its sheer breadth, addressing a wide range of issues in a single reform measure. The EFF has stated that the adoption of this milestone policy should prompt similar measures in other jurisdictions.
Here are some of the highlights:
· Targeted surveillance must be supported by reasonable suspicion of criminal activity.
· Residents have the right to observe and record police activities.
· Protects due process threatened by otherwise arbitrary and secretive inclusion of individuals in gang databases maintained by law enforcement.
· Police must change the process of how they search subjects during traffic and pedestrian stops. In particular, when law enforcement seeks to search subjects without either a warrant or probable cause, CSA requires that the officer inform the subject that they have the right to decline consent to the requested search. Police can no longer use deception to induce a subject’s consent.
· Restrictions are placed on racial profiling and intelligence collection absent reasonable suspicion of criminal activity protecting 4th and 14th Amendment rights of individuals.
In contrast, Chicago’s reform of its 12,000 member police department is now mired in a lawsuit. This month, several community groups including Black Lives Matter filed a class-action suit in a bid to challenge a draft agreement between the City and the U.S. Justice Department. The suit was filed days after Mayor Rahm Emanuel backed away from a promise to have a judge monitor reform efforts.
The draft agreement sought to reform the second largest police department in the country without federal court oversight. The suit contends that the overhaul of the Chicago PD in the aftermath of a damning civil rights report in January cannot work without the outside scrutiny of a court-appointed monitor answerable to a judge.
If a judge rules in favor of the plaintiffs, the court could then mandate reforms. Plaintiff lead attorney Craig Futterman says he hopes Mayor Emanuel will choose to work together with community groups to draw up a reform plan that the court would oversee. Futterman added, “This is the community stepping up when the government refuses to act and when it has long been clear that the city is incapable of acting on its own. “
Two cities on two very different paths toward reform.
Long term police reform is vital to set the boundaries of protection for citizens and law enforcement alike. In this era of instant information used to support preformed opinions, we should never forget how easy it is for those in power to push individual constitutional rights aside.

KEEP THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN FOR RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES– The pastor’s wife was expecting a baby, so he stood before the congregation and asked for a pay rise.
After much discussion, they passed a rule that whenever the pastor’s family expanded so would his pay. After 6 children, this started to get expensive and the congregation decided to hold another meeting to discuss the pastor’s expanding salary.
A great deal of yelling and inner bickering ensued, as to how much the pastor’s additional children were costing the church, and how much more it could potentially cost.
After listening to them for about an hour, the pastor rose from his chair and spoke, “Children are a gift from God, and we will take as many gifts as he gives us.”
Silence fell over the congregation. In the back pew, a little old lady struggled to stand, and finally said in her frail voice, “Rain is also a gift from God, but when we get too much of it, we wear rubber boots.”
The entire congregation said, “Amen.”

Have a procession a week / Stopping the workaday traffic; / Victories, won by a squeak, / Give you excuse to maffick.
— , “The Age of Display,” Current Literature, May, 1903
ORIGIN
Maffick is a humorous back formation from Mafeking, a city in South Africa that was besieged by the British for about nine months in the Second Boer War (1899–1902), as if mafeking were a gerund or participle as making is to the verb make. The lifting of the siege in May 1900, prompted exaggerated celebration in Britain. The Victorian and Edwardian ages are well known for their puns, e.g., “I say, Bonds, do you like Kipling?”
“I don’t know, French, I’ve never ‘kippled.’” Maffick entered English in the early 20th century.

ONE FINAL TRAVELING BAD JOKE– A little guy gets on a plane and sits next to the window. A few minutes later, a big, heavy, strong mean-looking, hulking guy plops down in the seat next to him and immediately falls asleep.
The little guy starts to feel a little airsick, but he’s afraid to wake the big guy up to ask if he can go to the bathroom. He knows he can’t climb over him, and so the little guy is sitting there, looking at the big guy, trying to decide what to do.
Suddenly, the plane hits an air pocket and an uncontrollable wave of nausea passes through the little guy. He can’t hold it in any longer and he pukes all over the big guy’s chest.
About five minutes later the big guy wakes up, looks down, and sees the vomit all over him.
“So,” says the little guy, “are you feeling better now?”
