CANTINA CREATIVE AND FREEDOM BASED BIKERNET SUNDAY POST for March 20, 2016

Hey,

I try to come up with ways to explain my strange thinking from time to time. A brother of mine, Mike Pullin, encouraged me this week.

Also, Steve Klein, got me going with something he sent to me, and to every connection he has in the industry. He was seriously inspired, but that’s Steve’s mantra. As it turns out, we are building a WR for one of the 5-Ball Race Bikes, and Steve is also building one. I’ll let Steve share his story below, but it mirrors what I like about what we do here at Bikernet and in Bandit’s Cantina.

Let me see if I can pull myself into focus and be cohesive. When I was a kid, my mom took me and my brother everywhere. We visited art exhibits, museums, you name it. One weekend she took us to the Sunset Magazine editorial offices. If you know Sunset Magazine, it’s a quality home art and improvement magazine. Needless to say I was impressed with their perfectly manicured and artistic cottage offices. If you were into flowers, planting and kitschy home stuff, this was heaven. I guess I was taken by the positive, inspiring work atmosphere. I thought all magazine offices should look like this. I hate current office cubicles and no-inspiration work spaces.

We got close around Easyriders from time to time. Magazines represent a window to what’s happening in an industry. To me the writers and staff need to live the dream with one hand on the keyboard and the other wrapped around a torch or covered with grease. That’s what I like about Bikernet. It’s a dream and we’re living it.

Unless the City of Los Angeles shuts us down.

Let’s hit the news.

NEWS FROM THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF ARCH MOTORCYCLES—
Buster is an associate of the ARCH motorcycle diocese. He is also the grand dragon owner of the Amazing Shrunken FXR built by the one-and-only Bandit, deep in the Bikernet Headquarters under a handful of full moons.

Just recently the Monks from the ARCH laid their hands on the Amazing one and this is what they came up with. The FXR Spirit lives to fly along the sleezy roads of Los Angeles once more. We will bring you an update of his Amazing rebuild and the connection with the ARCH Priests and the grubby bastards of LA Chop Rods. Hang on.

BUELL LIVES–
Twist the Throttle and Enjoy the Ride on a 2016 EBR.

EBR Motorcycles announces their 2016 MSRP and showcases its first motorcycles of 2016 rolling off the production line with a Press Day and Public Launch Party
EAST TROY, WI –

Riders are ready to throw a leg over America’s sport bike with the announcement that EBR Motorcycles resumed production March 1. The public, Buell enthusiasts, and EBR fans are rolling in to East Troy, Wisconsin to attend the EBR Launch Party on Friday, March 18.

During their Press Day on March 17, the new company, EBR Motorcycles, LLC, announced the 2016 MSRP for the 1190SX at $12,995 and 1190RX at $13,995. Paul Davis was on hand to cover the action for Bikernet. You’ll see the report next week.

The first motorcycle to roll off the production line was a limited edition 1190RX with a patriotic American flag paint job to highlight the fact that EBR Motorcycles are designed and hand built in East Troy, Wisconsin, making them America’s only sportbike, capable of going head-to-head with the European and Asian Superbikes.

“The launch of EBR Motorcycles in 2016 is very exciting for American motorcyclists and the Buell Nation around the globe,” said Bill Melvin. “The team at EBR is top-notch and they have worked enthusiastically towards this day. It’s a great day for America. America can succeed in manufacturing a high performance sportbike that competes with the fastest motorcycles in the world. The excitement over EBR from riders is stunning, and dealers are quickly expressing their interest in being an EBR dealer; EBR is ready to twist the throttle and enjoy the ride!”

EBR Motorcycles is in the process of making plans to auction and donate the proceeds of the first American patriotic bike off the production line to a national charity that assists American military personnel and veterans.

Founder and CTO, Erik Buell said, “We are glad to see the talk all over the Internet and Facebook about the launch and those coming to the Launch Party event. It is always fun to meet riders in person, that’s what brings joy to the job!”

For 2016, EBR Motorcycles is focused on their restructuring, as well as updates for their 2017 models and development of 2018 motorcycles and future innovations. EBR Motorcycles will continue to work closely with its race sponsors and privateer race teams that achieve success while racing EBRs worldwide.

Riders interested in purchasing a 2016 EBR motorcycle should email their address and phone number to Info@EBR.com to receive the location of the nearest ‘Top Dealer’ carrying 2016 models.

MISSOURI HELMET LAW ADJUSTMENT–

In Missouri, HB 1464 would exemt motorcyclists 21 and over from wearing a helmet if they have appropriate health insurance and possesed motorcycle endorsement for at least 2 yrs. Passed both committees needs to be placed on calendar for vote. Still negotiating w/bill sponsor and others for bill wording we are all in agreement with.

Possible amendments from Senate are SB 851 & 694 are adding: OR completion of motorcycle safty course. And posses distinctive license plate. Senate bills still in committee.

The other SMRO here is whining and bad mouthing FORR cause we might allow the conditions. We look at it as a step in the right direction. Welcome opinions.

–Amy “Sunshine”

IMHO accepting amendments, so long as they do not destroy the intent of a bill, is not a sign of weakness nor a retreat from principal. It recognizes the essence of the political process, which is compromise. Those who insist on all or nothing often end up with nothing.

I can see issues with the amendments in terms of how they would work practically, or how they would apply to out of state riders (Do I have to have proof with me that I took the course? How would the license plate requirement apply to me?) However, working out a compromise that achieves your goals is not bad. It’s smart. Good luck. I look forward to riding free through the Show Me State.

AN EDITORIAL NOTION FROM THE NC STEALTH AGENT–
Just read the Thursday news and I really like the opening as you named the reasons guys like us got into bikes and the biker lifestyle..

Sad to say but from what I see everyday those days are long gone? There is a “NEW BREED” nowadays riding. From my vantage point they have no respect for “THE CODE” we live by, they have never heard of THE CODE! They know nothing of brotherhood or respect.

I have lost a lot of my enthusiasm and passion the last couple of years. I still love to ride but I really don’t like being around this new breed. I deal with them everyday and from what I see, for them it is about throwing money around and saying “LOOK AT ME SEE WHAT I JUST DID?”

I still deal with a few “REAL DEAL ” guys now and then and every time it is a pleasure. I am glad I got into bikes when I did and have those memories like you described. As long as we had some money for gas and parts and a couple of beers we were good. I loved those times and I for one sure as hell miss them!

–Stealth

Very well put. But we miss an element. We lived the outlaws’ code and ran wild in the streets, with little concern for family. We left the kids to be raised by single mothers. They missed out on a lot. When they get older they try to pick up the pieces and do right by their kids. They are just trying to piece it together the best they can and correct our mistakes.

The worst thing we did was not to fully respect the stay at home mom, and the family unit. It means so much to kids.–Bandit

A PROBLEM WITH BADASS HELMETS FROM THE QUEEN OF WRN–

Reg Kittrelle, Kevin Duke, Robert Pandya, Neale Bayly, Tricia Szulewski, American Iron Magazine, Buzz Kanter, Steve Lita, Evans Brasfield, Total Motorcycle, WebBikeWorld I want all motorcycle media companies and journalists to know that the owner of Badass Helmets Karl Steinmeyer has stolen content off my website twice now, blatantly lifting stories we have researched and gathered the information and claiming it as his own on his website.

He is in serious violation of federal copyright laws. I am now seeking legal action against him and his website. I don’t mess around. I want you all to know because if he does it to me, he will do it to you and your website. I’m also now resorting to publicizing his dirty deeds because apparently he didn’t learn his lesson the first time he stole from me and I kept it private.

THE REPORT FROM BAGGER RACERS–

The other is a calling card from a ragtag, nomad group of racers I came across, they said I would need to add some additional parts to the Big Black Bagger to even be considered..

* A set of Feuling 4.3 Injectors

* A Feuling Oil Pump
* A set of S&S gear driven cams
* A Thunderheader exhaust in black, I can switch back and forth.
* A Thundermax ECM/Fuel Module
* A Baker 1.5 Oil Pan – to help with the Texas summers.
* A Baker 7 Speed Gear Set (optional at this time)
* K&N Air Filter Element and Air Filter ( I do like the look of the factory one)
* And were the 103″ badge is should read 110″.

However since I had a dream last Friday, that my dad and I were unloading a newly rebuilt Shovelhead it may be time to refocus on the ’79.

WHITE HOUSE PUSHES DRIVERLESS CARS–
The Obama administration aims to remove hurdles to making autonomous cars more widespread, and the President’s fiscal 2017 budget proposes spending $4 Billion over the next decade to accelerate the integration of driverless cars on U.S. roadways.

The administration’s multi-billion dollar proposal, which would require Congressional approval, calls on federal regulators to work with auto-makers and others to craft policies and rules regarding autonomous vehicles and their development.

“We are going to do everything we can to advance safe, smart and sustainable transportation innovations,” announced Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx at the Detroit Auto Show, “We are bullish on automated vehicles.”

In addition to the new testing programs, Foxx also unveiled ambitious federal guidelines that he says will get self-driving on the roads quicker — and more safely — than ever thought possible. “(These actions) will provide the foundation and the path forward for manufacturers, state officials and consumers to use new technologies and achieve their full safety potential” he said.

Now, NHTSA will seek input from automakers and others as the auto agency tries to wrap its arms around the deployment and operation of fully self-driving cars as the norm, not an anomaly.

In addition, the agency plans to team up with state partners and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators to develop a model driverless car policy states can implement, hopefully laying the groundwork for a consistent national policy.

FROM THE ANTIQUE MOTORCYCLE ARCHIVES–While at Eustis several weeks ago, I was approached by 93-year-old Eddie Boomhower whom went to his first Harley Davidson Factory School in 1948 and successfully owned his own H-D dealership for his whole life. He also constantly fielded many successful race teams in his career and many Hall of Famers were on his teams.

A very sharp, spritely and animated man at this mature age. He said he heard I was putting my 48 WR back on the track and I would need a present he had for me.

NEVER QUIT!
I spoke to Dar Holdsworth of Brass Balls Cycles and he’s faced a few obstacles as 2016 got underway, but he never gave up and a bright future is just over the horizon.

He’s another believer in the presence of the FXR Spirit. He worships the Chopper goddess, and if you want to build your own custom he can show you the path. Hang on for more reports.

So, next week we will bring you stories from Carson City and the historic Paughco fun factory, where classic springers are sprung, and trikes come to life.

More reports are coming Bikernet Baggers and Daytona. Trikes and road tests are flying at us, and Daytona babes will fill the Cantina. Plus, we have stumbled on a couple of Digital Discovery features for only Cantina members.

Have a helluva week, and remember, never ever give up.
