Daytona Party Weekend Sunday Post, March 11, 2012

Hey,

Yesterday was nuts. We scored a Leonardo da Vinci bicycle that was built after a supposed fake da Vinci sketch. Then we stopped at Pacific Coast Cycles in Long Beach and asked to borrow a set of 45 cases to help with the Bonne Belle mock-up. Mike, who is destined for open-heart surgery in a couple of days, just happened to have a complete motor on a stand. He offered it, and we loaded it into a milk crate and headed home. Never a dull moment.

Let’s hit the news. Jeremiah is headed in our direction to help with mounting Bare Knuckle, heavy-duty fenders on the Bonne Belle, this afternoon.

BIKERNET RECESSION REPORTS–A picture is now only worth 200 words.

When Bill and Hillary travel together, they now have to share a room.

The Treasure Island casino in Las Vegas is now managed by Somali pirates.

And, finally….

I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Hotline. I got a call centre in Pakistan, and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.

FIRST 2012 MOONEYES ANNOUNCEMENT–This is Steve from MOONEYES with the first official announcement of the 21st Annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2012, set for December 2, 2012 at the Pacifico Yokohama in Minato-Mirai in Yokohama, Japan!

Last year’s event has passed, so it’s time to break into a new stage!
YOKOHAMA HOT ROD CUSTOM SHOW 2012
First for this news release, information on new special sections and spotlights.

1. BORN FREE 4 (USA) BEST IN SHOW
On June 30, 2012, the motorcycle event “Born Free 4” will take place in Oak Canyon Ranch, California. We are excited to announce that the winning motorcycle from Born Free 4 will be brought to Japan for the YOKOHAMA HOT ROD CUSTOM SHOW 2012 (HCS2012)! The Born Free show has been the revival of high quality show bikes and authentic choppers. Builders across the USA have gravitated towards this event each year and it has been gaining in popularity each year. This year, the Best in Show will be here at HCS2012 for your viewing pleasure.

2. SPECIAL GUESTS FROM ABROAD
Each year at HCS, the main attraction has been the special guests from abroad. It’s still early to know at this time but we are working on a list right now and will make an official announcement soon.

3. AIR-CQQLED IN ACTION – SPECIAL SECTION SPOTLIGHT
HCS2012 Car Show Special Section “Spotlight” (Previous years included “Slammed Zone” trucks etc.). This year we present a special section spotlight titled, “Air-CQQLED in Action” which will compile an area inside the car show space featuring air-cooled Volkswagens. Welcoming all styles in this spotlight area including slammed, old school, Cal-look, custom, race cars and more. The theme is “in action” and we want to assemble air-cooled VWs of all types!

4. EARLY DAYS CHOPPER EXTRAVAGANZA – SPECIAL SECTION SPOTLIGHT
Each year the Special Section Spotlight for motorcycles has changed, including SR, Multi and British Customs. This area for HSC2012 is titled, “Early Days Chopper Extravaganza” which will be focused on ’60s and early ’70s style choppers. With no set theme on machine type, it’s wide open and promises to compile a full range of wild motorcycles! So what exactly is ’60s & ’70s style? It could be anything, it’s doesn’t have to be vintage, as long as it’s styled to the theme of ’60s & ’70s! American, Japanese Domestic, British or European makes, it’s possible! During this period, choppers were introduced in Japan, so of course Japanese bikers, customs and early days of choppers are also exceptional!

5. CUSTOM PAINT HUB CAP CONTEST (Size Up to 15″)
Previous custom paint contests included fuel tanks and helmets. HCS2012 will be the third custom paint contest and the selected “canvas” is a hub cap (wheel cover). Of course, the contest is open to anyone willing to give it a try, professional painters to amateurs. Size limit of the hub cap is limited 15″ but it can be just about any type of hub cap. Be creative and have fun, first with the selection of a hub cap!

6. 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEUCE – 1932 FORD
This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the 1932 Ford. Shows across the USA have been celebrating with excitement and now we will have a featured spotlight right here at HCS2012 for the Deuce.

7. HOT WHEELS CONVENTION
The Hot Wheels Convention held last year at HCS was so popular, they are back to do it again! The Hot Wheels Convention is back for HCS2012 and they have already started planning for the event too. Special announcements will made available soon. There will be a limited edition Hot Wheels for the event as well. Stay tuned for more!

This year for HCS2012, we’re bringing it back again! Calling all car clubs! Get ready for this year’s show and enter together and represent your car club with pride and create a cool display. For those clubs that didn’t get to enter last year, here is your chance this year! Or for the clubs that want to change it all around and have a different display, it’s all up to you!

OTHER FEATURES AND SECTIONS
As with previous years, other features and sections include:

RAT ISLAND – Limited to Hot Rods & Kustoms built up to 1948.
The purpose of Rat Island is to bring together those vehicles that want to participate in the show but don’t want to be displayed as a show car. This sectioned off area includes suede, traditional hot rods and kustoms with art, pinstriping and music together in one area. Vehicles must be mobile (running) and complete. The perimeter of Rat Island is fenced and within this area, entry vehicles are displayed together. LATEST STUDY FROM THE BIKERNET UNIVERSITY– In 1991, Duke University funded a study to see why the head of a man’s penis was larger than the shaft.

After one year and $180,000.00, they concluded that the reason the head was larger than the shaft was to give the Man more pleasure during sex.

After Duke published the study, Stanford decided to do their own study.

After three years of research and $250,000.00, they concluded that the reason was to give the Woman more pleasure during sex.

The University of Nebraska, unsatisfied with these findings, spent $23.27 (for a Playboy, Penthouse, and a case of Old Milwaukee) and concluded that it was to keep a man’s hand from flying off and hitting him in the forehead.

AUSTRALIAN CLUB NEWS–NSW cops target Hells Angels after Kings Cross ‘visit’ fearing a full-blown club war — New South Wales police currently investigating the Hells Angels, say they have launched a new taskforce amid fears a full-blown club war will explode in Kings Cross.

Police say the operation, code-named Strike Force Cheviot, was set up after 40 to 50 members and friends of the Hells Angels descended on the red-light district last month.

Police say they believe the “unprecedented” act may have been designed to send a message to rival group the Nomads, which have long controlled security in the area.

Detective Superintendent Arthur Katsogiannis, commander of the NSW Gangs Squad, said police had been watching the situation closely since the February 5 incident.

“Yes, we are aware and monitoring the situation with what happened at Kings Cross that night with the Hells Angels”, Mr Katsogiannis told The Sunday Telegraph.

“It was an unprecedented act from the Hells Angels and that’s why it’s important the Gangs Squad involved ourselves from the beginning.

“Safety of the community is our top priority and we will not be allowing any OMCGs (outlaw motorcycle club gangs) to carry on with that type of behaviour”.

Police are investigating a possible outbreak of violence between the Nomads and the Hells Angels, who have been on an expansion and recruitment drive for months around Sydney.

It is one of several lines of inquiry being probed by Cheviot detectives. They are also looking at a credible allegation that Hells Angels members went to Kings Cross to confront a member of the Nomads who works in the area.

The man, who for legal reasons cannot be named, was formerly a member of the Hells Angels but “patched over” several months ago.

Since then he has been performing unofficial security tasks for nightclub premises in Kings Cross, including venues aligned with local identity John Ibrahim.

Law enforcement sources said when the Hells Angels descended on the nightspot they arranged themselves across the road from a club where the man was believed to be working, and demanded he come outside.

REGISTER NOW for MRF’S BEAST of the East!–  The Motorcycle Riders Foundation’s (MRF) BEAST of the East Conference in Atlanta, Georgia is coming sooner than you think. But it’s not too late to pre-register for the conference or book your hotel room at the conference rate.

The MRF moved its offices to a different floor in the same building during this past week. There were some minor glitches in getting phone and internet services hooked up. Because of delays that were beyond the MRF’s control, we are extending the BEAST pre-registration deadline. In fact, we have extended both deadlines to this Friday, March 16.

If you called the office this past week to register for BEAST and left a voice mail message, unfortunately the MRF has been unable retrieve that message. Please give Tiffany another call in the MRF office this week at 202-546-0983 and she will get you registered. You can also register online through the MRF website at www.mrf.org/events.php. After March 16, the cost of registration for BEAST will increase by $10 per person.

The Westin Atlanta Airport has also agreed to extend the deadline for booking your room at the conference rate of $89 per night. You can reserve your room by calling 1-888-627-7211 or 404-762-7676. Be sure to mention that you are attending the Motorcycle Riders Foundation BEAST of the East conference to get the conference rate. If you book your room after March 16, your room rate may increase significantly.

The MRF was also informed that there was a short window of time that the Westin did not have any double rooms available, and was only offering king rooms to our conference attendees. They have now been able to free up some additional double rooms for the MRF, so if you contact them before the March 16 deadline, you can change your king reservation to a double. After March 16, any changes to your room reservation may affect your room rate.

You can find the complete conference agenda including workshop presenters, as well as the conference poster and printable registration form, by visiting the MRF website at www.mrf.org/events.php.

We’re looking forward to a very informative and exciting BEAST of the East conference in Atlanta, April 13-15! Hope to see you there!

BIKERNET EDITORIAL CORRECTION–Please change the header: it’s Nirvana not Nirvan.

“Nirvana is the soteriological goal of several Indian religions including Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism. It is synonymous with the concept of liberation (moksha) which refers to release from a state of suffering after an often lengthy period of committed spiritual practice.”

BIKERNET 5-BALL RACING WHEELER REPORT–

Progress on all fronts with sun shine in the forecast just outside of the bikernet headquarters revolving door.

Friday afternoon Irish Murph (www.wherethehellis murph.com), stopped by for an afternoon of bullshit followed by a Nyla handmade sandwiches and a few top secret photos on his way through town while on his world tour that started 2 years ago.

What a story this guy has to share with the world. You’ll see Murphs adventure unfold on Bikernet over the next few months and years. In fact he’s going to kick of the series with a tech on shipping bikes overseas. It’s easier than you think.

This past week we inched closer to the Bonneville starting line with the 5-Ball Racing Team 45 and our 124 inch Turbo charged Twin Cam. Yesterday afternoon we picked up a 45 engine for mock up purposes in the Paughco hard tail frame that young Frank Ball will ride this season, his first year on the salt.

The hot rod motor is nearing completion in Lee Clemens shop in Virginia, Departure Biker Works.

For those that are following the salt addicted builds with baited breathe we will be offering sponsorship programs for the upcoming Bonneville 2012 effort.

The NHRA Gator Nationals are underway in Gainesville, Florida this week end, they have a great race track and a solid program. Had the pleasure of attending the meet first hand in the early ’90s, meet Larry Spiderman McBride and his crew, also met Elmer Trett’s family, one of my all time heros. Tommy Grimes might have been there that year also? Memory like a steel trap these days.

Krawiec set the national record on his Vance & Hines Screamin Eagle Harley-Davidson V-Rod Saturday with a 6.750-second pass at 198.03 mph and collected not only the 10th No.1 of his career but also the 20 point bonus that comes with setting a national e.t. record.

96 inch Twin Cam build
The crew at Hardtailz in san Jose has installed the engine and primaries. A short parts list and we complete the build. Then few heat cycles will follow with an oil and filter change to flush the assembly lube from the new engine.

124 inch Twin Cam Raycer
Rick assures us that we’re in line for the frame table, soon.
Stay tuned.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY SPECIAL STUDENTS VOCABULARY LESSON–Nymphomaniacs

All men are seduced into believing they’re marrying nymphomaniacs.
The problem is, after a few years, the nympho leaves …
But the f*ck*ng maniac stays on.

AND NOW FROM DR. WEIL’S OFFICE IN THE BIKERNET UNIVERSITY SCIENCE LAB–Are Your Cleansers Harmful? It’s about that time when people give their homes a spring cleaning. I am a big proponent of keeping a clean, uncluttered home: it can promote productivity and organization, instill a sense of calm and order, and help manage and prevent unhealthy bacteria.

This year, why not add environmentally friendly cleaning products to your routine? “Green” cleaning products abound in stores, but you can also use common household items that are friendly to both the environment and your wallet. Try the following to clean your:

* Kitchen: Put 2 ½ tablespoons of white vinegar in a quart spray bottle; fill the rest with water and, if you like, a few drops of a pleasant-smelling oil extract such as orange or lavender. This is not only a cost-effective way to clean countertops, stoves and refrigerator shelves, but a five percent solution vinegar kills 99 percent of bacteria.

* Bathroom: Baking powder lends itself beautifully to cleaning toilets, tubs and sinks – simply sprinkle it on, and rub with a washable cloth. For tough stains, mix baking powder and water to form a paste, and let sit on the stain for 30 minutes.

* Windows. Tackle the dirt and streaks that build up over the winter months with a solution of two cups water and ¼ cup of white vinegar. Spray on, remove with a squeegee. You will find that you don’t need ammonia and other chemicals for a streak-free shine!

BIKERNET TRIKES TEASER FROM KOZ– Koz Mraz plays Judge and Jury and puts the 2013 Victory Judge on trial. Conviction or acquittal? …you be the judge. Hang on as the Koz will road test the new Victory on Bikernet.

NCOM CONVENTION COMING–If you have never been to a national convention discussing motorcycle rights and issue then this is a good one to go to. Especially since it will be so close. I encourage anyone who is interested in being more involved in the KMA/KBA to please try to go to this event. It will help to inspire and put into perspective our fight in this world to keep and enjoy our freedoms so long as we protect them.

–Jay Huber

The 27th annual NCOM Convention will be held Mother’s Day weekend, May 10-13, 2012 at the J W Marriot located at 10 S. West St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.

This annual gathering will draw bikers’ rights activists from across the country to discuss topics of concern to all riders, so reserve your room now for the special NCOM rate of $99.00 by calling (800) 266-9432 or (317) 860-5800.

Registration fees for the NCOM Convention are $80 including the Silver Spoke Awards Banquet on Saturday night, or $45 for the Convention only. All motorcyclists are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Meetings, seminars and group discussions will focus on legislative efforts and litigation techniques to benefit our right to ride and Freedom of the Road.

To pre-register, call the National Coalition of Motorcyclists at (800) 525-5355 or visit www.ON-A-BIKE.com.

The National Coalition of Motorcyclists is requesting that MRO’s, motorcycle clubs, and riding associations submit the names of those members and supporters who have died since May 2011, so that we may honor their memories during the traditional “Ringing of the Bell” tribute to fallen riders during the opening ceremonies. LONDON (9 March, 2012) – RM Auctions, the world’s largest collector car auction house for investment-quality automobiles, is delighted to announce a selection of stunning new consignments for its Monaco auction at the Grimaldi Forum, scheduled 11th – 12th May during the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique weekend.

Befitting a sale in such a world-renowned motorsport location, RM has secured a truly outstanding collection of some of the world’s most significant racing cars. The 2012 event has been extended to two sale days (11th – 12th May), and will also feature a wonderful roster of blue-chip, non-competition collector cars and the famous Saltarelli Ducati Collection.

“Monaco holds a very special place in the history of motorsport so it’s therefore fitting that RM is accumulating a fabulous collection of some of the world’s finest historic racing machinery for this year’s sale,” says Max Girardo, Managing Director, RM Europe. “With the other fine non-competition cars already consigned to the sale, and with over 100 incredible Ducati motorcycles on offer, this year’s Monaco auction is shaping up to be one to remember.”

FIRST SUGGESTION FOR BIKERNET BAGGERS–How about lots of stories from the road. Points of interest, great roads to ride, fun times had along the way. Baggers are to be ridden, so routes, points of interest and overall destinations from all across this great country.

Couple the stories with some great photography and ya got it.

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION REPORTS ON FEDERAL HIGHWAY BILL–
It’s been a tumultuous few weeks, with Washington focusing all of its attention on the federal highway bill. The mammoth piece of legislation that paves new roads and fixes crumbling bridges has been a ghost for the past three years, when the old law expired. Since 2009, the bill has lurched from temporary extension to temporary extension, and the most recent expires at the end of this month. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) believes that another extension is a foregone conclusion at this point. The only question is how long will it be. Here is a quick rundown of where we are and where we have been.

The Senate passed a bill (S 1813) out of committee back in December. That bill is awaiting consideration by the full Senate, but it failed a cloture motion earlier this week. A vote against cloture is a vote to keep debating the bill and not begin voting on the bill. Failing a cloture vote is oftentimes the beginning of the end. Not always though, as we may see with this bill. Sources close to the MRF are saying that a deal has been reached between Senate Democrats and Republicans, and votes on amendments may wrap up next week. The Senate bill spends $109 billion over two years and has no anti-motorcycle language or helmet language of any kind.

Meanwhile, over on the House side, their version (HR 7) of the highway bill has an even more bizarre story. The House bill would spend $260 billion over five years. This bill also has zero anti-motorcycle language. It does have the language from HR 904 rolled into it, banning motorcycle-only checkpoints. Although the annual cost is actually less with the House bill, the overall cost proved to be too much for some Republicans in Congress, and they planned a revolt. The threat of the revolt was enough to force Speaker Boehner to divide the bill into three smaller bills; an odd choice of strategy. None of those bills have been brought to the floor. Supposedly there is so much rancor that the House may now take up the smaller Senate bill as a supplement, as it’s more likely to get signed into law before the end of the month. But even that is long shot.

In other news, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell signed into law a piece of legislation that bans law enforcement agencies from conducting motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints. The ban takes effect July 1, 2012.

The MRF will keep you updated on the progress of the federal highway bill, and all federal motorcycling issues.

X-TV CELEB HAS BANDIT FIRED–I reported on this in the news. I’m not even sure what it’s about. But a friend in the industry contacted me. “Jesse called and bragged that he had you fired from Heavy Duty Magazine.”

It got sorta ugly from that point, and I have a tread of e-mails between Jesse and I. Seems Jesse couldn’t come to me about his complaint, he took it to Viv, the publisher and sniveled behind my back. I’ll stop there, for two major reasons: I don’t have time for this bullshit. We are scrambling to make a living, building several bikes, including two for Bonneville. And I have two books in the works. Then Viv called this afternoon. I wasn’t fired. Jesse gave her the, “It’s him or me,” bit.

This is too nuts. Sin Wu always encourages us to take the high road. So, I believe I’m going to walk away from the crap. If Jesse has a problem with me, I’m still in our old ghetto building behind the Port of LA.

Don’t forget to read Aging Rebel’s (Donald Charles Davis) books “Out Bad” and “Aging Rebel, Dispatches from the Motorcycle Outlaw Frontier”.

Yep. As far as being a prima donna pussy goes, he (Jesse) has the Teutels beat by a country mile. The man has no class.

Official: WOMAN DIES AFTER HOMEMADE CANNON FIRES– A woman died Tuesday, in Potrero, California, after a homemade cannon blew a projectile into a mobile home in a remote San Diego County community.

Two men, including the woman’s husband, were tinkering with the cannon outside the home when it went off and sent a projectile into the home, said Capt. Mike Mohler of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

It was not immediately clear whether the projectile or the cannon blast killed the 33-year-old woman, he said.

The woman was pronounced dead about 12:15 a.m. at her home at the Twin Lakes Resorts mobile home park in Potrero, a community of about 700 people near the Mexican border.

Her name was not immediately released.

One of the men was injured and taken to a hospital. Mohler did not immediately know his condition or the extent of his injuries.

NEW FROM THE BIKERNET TREASURY, GAS COUPONS–I didn’t realize it,… but these ‘coupons’ are good for one gallon of gas at most retailers. I have seen them around, but until recently never took advantage of them, I never realized their actual worth.

You probably have one or two just lying around somewhere, now is the time to use them before they lose their value, and it’s too late!

THERE YOU HAVE IT–Another Bonneville racer broke down yesterday and we may need to rescue his bike and haul it to Eaglerock for repairs. Another brother was working on his Buell and ran into problem. He may be delivering it here for repairs.

I believe I fixed by Son’s Mudflap Girl FXR starting problems. Talk about quirky, but we may have it licked. I forgot to dial in the clutch adjustment and will do that before I button up the primary. Just waiting on forward controls, then a seat. We have an appointment lined up for Saddlemen next Wednesday for my Mudflap girl seat design.

Next Tuesday, we have a major meeting scheduled with all the site players as we begin a major editorial and advertising push. Gotta pay the bills and support the industry.

I will deliver a beautiful ’59 Triumph feature to Bikernet, and a Rogue tech in the next couple of days. Plus, we have a couple more super rare, exotic antique motorcycles coming your way. Oh, and Bob Bitchin celebrated his birthday this weekend, Joe Teresi’s BD is this week, along with mine, and the late Lou Kimzey’s would have been the following week. He’s missed, and I’m turning 64, good god.

Hang on.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
