Hey,
I’m perplexed, confused and dismayed. Here’s the quandary: I need to find three days to hide out in Vegas or in the mountains around Idlyllwild to review my next book manuscript, and start the final publishing process.
Like a dipshit I started tinkering with my Spitfire girder again, so my bike is torn down. I want to ride, find another redhead and escape. I watched an old movie called “Monty Walsh,” the other night. It was about a bunch of cowboys at the end of their era. It was about the Code of the West (1970) and starred Lee Marvin.
Sometimes I feel like the aging biker facing a changing society. What a pile of bullshit. Let’s hit the news before I get in trouble.

LOWER INSURANCE PREMIUMS AND RISK OF VANDALISM IN ONE EASY STEP– If you ride a Harley Davidson, you know that you are at risk for vandalism. Insurance companies know this as well, which is one of the reasons that insurance premiums are steadily on the rise for owners of motorcycles.
One of the most damaging acts of vandalism that affects Harley-Davidson owners is oil tank contamination. Anyone can approach an unattended bike and introduce a substance that can cause it to run poorly or not at all. In the worst instances, the bike’s engine is completely destroyed by this act. Even worse, it can happen as you ride, causing severe bodily harm to you and your bike.
A locking cap from SecureCaps.com ensures safety for your motorcycle no matter where it is parked. These caps fit directly in your Harley Davidson to create an impenetrable surface so that would be vandals leave your motorcycle alone. Meanwhile, you have easy entry into the oil tank when you need it. One secure key is used to easily pull out and replace the cap at any time.
Buying locking oil tank caps from SecureCaps is an easy choice. All products are made in the USA, they ship anywhere, and come in an array of finishes to match your style. Secure your motorcycle now and stop worrying about the damage caused by oil tank contamination

MISSOURI LAWMAKERS CONSIDER SUNDAY MOTORCYCLE SALES–
By DAVID A. LIEB Associated Press
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Laws that once banned retail sales on Sundays are largely gone in many states. Yet it remains illegal in Missouri to sell cars, trucks and motorcycles on Sundays.
Now there is an effort in the Missouri Legislature to lift the ban for motorcycles. A House committee heard testimony Tuesday from a Kansas City area Harley-Davidson dealer who is one of the main backers of the legislation. Rick Worth said weekends are a prime time for motorcycle enthusiasts to go riding and shopping. His dealership is several miles from the Kansas border, and one of his main competitors is in Kansas.
“He can and does open on Sunday, and he’s very happy to sell my customers motorcycles,” said Worth, the owner of Worth Harley-Davidson. “In order for us to be competitive, we need to have that day,” Worth added.
As originally drafted, legislation by Reps. Mike Cierpiot and Caleb Jones would have carved an exception in Missouri’s law to allow Sunday motorcycle sales only in Jackson and Platte counties — two Kansas City-area jurisdictions along the Kansas border. But during Tuesday’s hearing in the House General Laws Committee, Cierpiot offered a revised version of their bills that would allow Sunday motorcycle sales statewide.
“It’s kind of an economic development tool,” said Cierpiot, R-Lee’s Summit. No one testified against the bill. But some questioned that assertion. Sam Licklider, a lobbyist for the Missouri Power Sports Dealers Association, said that — except for border businesses such as Worth’s — most dealerships probably would not sell any more motorcycles with a seven-day workweek than with six days.
It simply would give consumers more time to shop. He said the motorcycle legislation also could lead to similar requests from car and truck dealerships. Missouri law already has several exceptions from the ban on Sunday sales of motor vehicles. Sales are allowed of recreational vehicles and mobile homes.
State law also allows Sunday sales of tires and repair parts for motor vehicles. Several motorcycle riders testified in support of the Sunday sales legislation. They said Missouri’s law is outdated. “It’s just not right. You can buy everything else on a Sunday, so why not a motorcycle?” Bill Kempker, the legislative coordinator for Freedom of Road Riders Inc., said in an interview.
— Motorcycle sales bills are HB1618 and HB1735. Online: Legislature: http://www.moga.mo.gov

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY NOW OPEN–Power Outage
We had a power outage at my house this morning and my PC, laptop, TV, DVD, iPad, ham radio & my new surround sound music system were all shut down.
Then I discovered that my iPhone battery was flat and to top it off it was raining outside, so I couldn’t play golf.
I went into the kitchen to make coffee and then I remembered that this also needs power, so I sat and talked with my wife for a few hours.
She seems like a nice person.

Rebirth of an American Classic: Transmission Rebuild – Rebirth of a 1933 VL, by Panhead Jim
My 3-speed transmission started out very similar to my engine, an empty case and a pile of parts, all in need of cleaning. So the first step was to break everything down into individual pieces and perform a thorough inspection of each piece, to see which parts just needed cleaning and which parts needed repairs or replacement.

Drag Racing down the strip in Old Idaho town.
By Algie Pirrello – Killing Machine Choppers
We moved into our new shop in October 2009. The new shop was nice, all asphalt (no weeds to kill) and we didn’t have to drive 20 miles or more round trip every time we needed something. The very first time I needed a washer and was able to walk to the store across the street was so cool. There were also three bars within in one block. It reminded me of my childhood back on the Strip in Rockford Hellioins. The riverfront was a nice hot spot for a shop.

The 1st Annual Phoenix Wounded Vets Bike Run is inspired by the hard work and dedication of the Boston Wounded Vets Run team lead by Andrew Biggio. Andrew has taken helping vets to a new level, with his ride in Boston being such a success over the last 3 years raising upwards of $130K that is distributed to the honorees of the ride and vets in the area that need help.
The concept that was just in Boston, we are making a reality in Phoenix. We are starting out with just 1 honoree this year but that doesn’t mean we are going small. We have teamed up with MAM (Military Assistance Mission), Mad4Vets, and a post of the American Legion that has no choice but to succeed in every event they participate in, Post 117 The Pat Tillman Post! We want to set the standard this year and bring something like no one has ever seen for vet

WORLD BEST SMOKE OUT VIDEO STILL AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED TIME—You’ve heard of the Smoke Out as the wildest event in the world. I would tell you about it in detail, but I snorted a dozen white-lightning marinated maraschino cherries and don’t remember a thing after that.
I do remember a thin blonde country western babe singer belting out a song from a semi-truck bed stage, then everything got fuzzy.
The Smoke Out producer started making films about his event a decade ago. First one he couldn’t sell at all. The content was too outlandish. The second film never made the cut. The crew got lost in a white-lightning haze, and so the story went from year to year. Then, finally in 2013 the commander hooked up with some pros from Hollywood, but biker guys and they went to work.
“Finally, I could look at a film about the Smoke Out and not cry or break a window,” Commander Edge said. “It was the greatest Smoke Out film achievement in the history of the Smoke Out.” He should say that, he paid for it. You’ll see a rave review from Ray C. Wheeler in the next six months on Bikernet, if he can ever figure out how to make a DVD work.
Or just quit messing around and buy a copy, quick. Or join the Back Stage area of the Cantina and we will send you a copy.
I did not mention the bar, as I believe there was an issue with the owners about not paying folks money they were owed.
I do know there was an issue with one of the places, but not sure which one, so I would rather play it safe.
You may want to ask Chris if you need to know.

SB3290 LIABILITY: OFF-ROAD RIDING
Amends the Premises Liability Act. In a Section concerning off-road riding facilities, exempts owners or operators from civil and criminal liability arising out of or as a consequence of noise or sound emissions resulting from the use (instead of “normal use”) of the off-road riding facility.
The bill full text link is below
It is pretty much self-explanatory, a no-brainer.
This language will help to protect race tracks even better noise issues and will help immensely in defending them those kinds of attacks from anti-motorsports type individuals.
Talking Points:
This bill takes out the guess work of what “normal usage” actually means. “Normal Usage” is too broad of a term.
The committee link is: http://www.ilga.gov/senate/committees/members.asp?committeeID=1248
We also need to file electronic witness slips for this committee. Click on the link below, go to SB3290 then on the far right and click the last box to file a witness slip. The 1st box shows who has submitted a witness slip!
If you haven’t filled out a witness slip yet now is the time to do so. We need as many as possible, I mean thousands of slips.
Below is the link to the members of the subcommittee:
http://www.ilga.gov/house/committees/members.asp?CommitteeID=1465&GA=98
Call those members, get their ph’s ringing off the hook.
We need this bill out of subcommittee and into the the Revenue and Finance Committee.
Talking Points are:
We never ever had a problem on poker runs till state liquor and gaming agents started telling our business they would get fined/lose there license if they would hang up poker run fliers in their businesses.
We thought we had it fixed last year but was put in the Charitable Games Act under the control of the Dept of Revenue, which for poker runs will not work for us, our charities and the State of Illinois as a whole.
We must move this bill to the full Revenue and Finance Committee then on to the House floor. We ask for your full support in fixing this problem
Bob
Make these calls. The power to move this bill is in all of us. It has to pass to survive.

NEW FLORIDA MOTORCYCLE LEGISLATION COULD BE GOOD OR BAD–Though the first reaction to a Proposed Motorcycle Law in Florida is that it is good BUT there is Definitely a Down Side and that would Classify Motorcycle Riders as Vulnerable.
Please see the comment –He says those protected by this law need special rules. This could lead to other laws like Mandatory Helmet Laws, Reflective Vests, Etc. There are already laws on the books that would cover this if enforced. More Laws for Motorcyclist have never been a good thing.
This would Also apply to two or more friends riding motorcycles if they make contact.
Please Give This Some Serious Thought and Contact Your Legislator on how you feel.
“Safety rule number one for motorcycle drivers is to watch out for bigger vehicles. But a proposed law in the state of Florida could make it just as important for drivers to watch out for motorcycles.”
The bill covers what Senator Evers calls “vulnerable road users.” That includes motorcyclists, pedestrians, road workers, scooter and bicycle riders, farm equipment operators, carriage drivers and those in wheelchairs.
If a driver commits a moving violation that results in bodily injury, it would become a second-degree misdemeanor. If it causes death, it would become first-degree, with the potential for license suspension. Steven William’s was hit by a motorist while on his motorcycle. He hopes the law might force motorists to pay more attention.
Steven William’s, “It might make them a little bit more aware, just to pay attention a little bit more. So many people these days are focusing inside the vehicle instead of outside the vehicle. If there was a little bit more risk on stake for them they might pay a little bit more attention to what’s going on outside their vehicle.”
He says those protected by this law need special rules.
Steven William’s, “What is normally a swap-paint, ding in the fender ‘oh I got insurance’ case with two cars leaves somebody lying on the street bleeding. That’s the difference.”
Most drivers we spoke with seemed to agree with the bill. Beverly Trawick, “I think they should be ticketed if they’re doing something like that. They’re at fault. And I think they should get extra punishment for that.”
Alcy Dannelly “People need to be a little more aware of what’s going on around motorcycles and bicycles.”

UNCLE MONKEY ON THOSE FIRST FEW MILES OF THE SEASON–Spring maybe around the corner. It’s hard to tell but the snowpack is going down leaving large lakes of water pooling over frozen storm drains. It is a time of year when you want to get out and put on those first few miles of the year.
Many of us are still snow and ice bound. We grin enviously of those we see out on the road. They are the lucky ones, the ones who don’t have to meander down mud slick back alleys, ones who carefully choreographed their paths down drier streets. Soon. The days are getting longer and the calendar is getting thinner. Soon we, the frozen folks will be back out on the roads, wind in our face, freedom in our souls. Soon our weekends will be full of rides, runs, and rebel rousing. We cherish those miles; every mile we ride unshackled from societies constraints.
It is a time to put the finishing touches on our winter projects, a time to start those winter projects that have been delayed – held hostage by Jack Frost. Some jobs were simple; some bit off more than could be chewed. We know it is only a matter of days until we can ride again. Days until the first few green blades of grass, the first few budding blooms.
Until riding season finally arrives at your doorstep throw another log on the fire, stoke the flames. It is time to burn the midnight oil, so we too can emerge from winter’s hibernation.

FROM THE BIKERNET TESTING LAB—The cost to run a Chevy Volt.
Eric Bolling (Fox Business Channel’s “Follow the Money”) test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors.
For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine. Eric calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on the battery. So the range, including the 9-gallon gas tank and the 16-kwh battery, is approximately 270 miles.
It will take you 4 1/2 hours to drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.
According to General Motors, the Volt battery holds 16 kwh of electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery. The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned so I looked up what I pay for electricity. I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per kwh.
16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery. $18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the Volt using the battery.
Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine that gets only 32 mpg. $3.19 per gallon divided by 32 mpg = $0.10 per mile.
The gasoline powered car costs about $15,000 while the Volt costs $46,000.
So the Government wants us to pay 3 times as much, for a car that costs more than 7 times as much to run, and takes 3 times longer to drive across the country.
REALLY ???

OFFICIAL BIKERNET PHILOSOPHER IS DAZED AND CONFUSED, LIKE ME–Do you ever have one of those days that every time you turn around you are face with another challenge, fear, doubt, regret, or problem? You don’t want to meet another person, open another email or answer the phone.
Do you get consumed with the negativity and focus all of your energy on it? Does it seem that the more the day goes on the worse it gets? Well I hate to say but that is the way the Law of Mind works, we manifest what we think about most.
When we allow the outer world and the past control our day and that is what we think about most that is what we will manifest. Simply what the mind conceives and believes it will achieve or simply thoughts are things. That is the bad news!
The good news is we can change our day by simply pausing, reflect on what has been happening, what are our conversations and thoughts, where are we focusing our energy, who and what are we giving our energy to. Once we take inventory of our stinkin’ thinkin’ it is time to decide consciously how the rest of the day is going to unfold.
One of the exercises I do to get out of that shitty thinking is to write down a minimum of 5 things I am grateful for, this immediately starts to change my mood.
Next I find a quiet place (sometimes the bathroom) where I can go within and find the Guidance and Support I need to help me take on the rest of the day. In other words I alter my thinking. I just close my eyes and breathe feeling the Peace warming my soul, re-energizing me, giving me this new strength to take on the world.
Today Know: Today I affirm that I am greater that any challenge or problem. I am blessed with the opportunity of today, for the Present is a Gift and I will not give another second of it to negativity.
I choose the kind of Life I am going to have and it is Good. I Let Go of all fear, doubt, the past, the future, of anything, or anyone sending negative waves my way. Today is a Gift and I am Grateful for each and every minute.

The past two weeks have been very productive in spite of the calm off shore breezes, constant blue skies and the welcome sunshine blasting into my bedroom at the peep of dawn. Great way to start the day in SoCal.
This weekend is Balls to the Wall, Tits on the Tank Racing at the Texas Mile. October 2003 was the first ever Texas Mile. The diehard racers are already there, standing on one foot, waiting in line for the gate to swing open for a shot at recording a big number.
The rest of the racers are loading their rigs and headed to Texas for a chance to fulfill what might be a life long dream. The racetrack is where the flag drops and the bullshit stops. At the end of the day an official time slip is the real deal, no matter what track, no matter the name of the organization…a number is a number.
Our 5-Ball Racing Teams, 124 inch Twin Cam-Turbo-Charged “Raycer” is starting to look like a real race bike, with a Keep it Simple Stupid theme. Dr. Willie has removed and massaged every part, other than the engine internals, the bushings and bearings, from stem to stern. The engine and latest addition, the twin cam transmission case are now coupled and mounted on a solid foundation.
The transmission case was modified and the 6- speed Screamin’ Eagle gear set is installed. The cam side lower-mid-engine mount was relocated for a perfect fit.
The STD inner primary is in line waiting for machine time, a larger bearing will be installed and an ear on the backside carved away to provide room for chain clearance.
The smaller cush-drive rear sprocket will allow faster top-end speeds.
The turbo mounting system received a complete make over.
While giving the Raycer the eagle eye the good Dr. discovered the turbo mount had broken, leaving the 15# Series 66 Aerocharger dangling by the exhaust system. Seems the engine grows approximately .060-inch at running temperatures and moves around considerably under power.
The mount parted, but no problem, and no damage to any parts…so a simple effective solution was needed.
Here comes Toby to the rescue after a couple of new pieces were prepared. The mounting flange welded to the exhaust has slots milled in the face so the turbo has a chance to move around while growing. Stainless shouldered bolts allow for movement.
We added a pair of 18# support springs to hold the Turbo tight to the R&R Cycle prepped, billet stage-4 heads. In theory the springs might relieve some of the weight.
Enjoy your upcoming weekend……keep your eyes pealed for a missing airplane.

GUN NUT REPORT: Please call your U.S. Senators and Ask Them to Oppose the Confirmation of Vivek Murthy for U.S. Surgeon General.
The National Rifle Association strongly opposes the confirmation of Vivek Murthy, as Surgeon General. Click here to see a recent interview with NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox on Fox News.
The Surgeon General has the important tasks of providing the American public with information to better inform decisions related to their health and directing much of the federal government’s public health efforts. In order for these roles to be carried out effectively, the public must trust that the Surgeon General’s actions are based on empirical and scientific evidence, rather than political or ideological motives.
In this regard, Dr. Murthy’s record of political activism in support of radical gun control measures raises significant concerns about his ability to objectively examine issues pertinent to America’s 100 million firearm owners and the likelihood he would use the office of Surgeon General to further his preexisting campaign against gun ownership.
Vivek Murthy agrees with President Barack Obama, Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Senator Dianne Feinstein’s radical anti-gun agenda. Dr. Murthy advocated on many occasions for the banning of lawfully-owned firearms and even worse – using tax dollars for the federal government to buy them back.
Furthermore, Dr. Murthy proposed stripping the vital privacy protections for gun owners in the “Affordable Care Act” so that doctors and insurance companies can keep information on lawful gun owners. It’s clear that Dr. Murthy would be a prescription for disaster for America’s law-abiding gun owners.
Please call your U.S. Senators at (202) 224-3121 and let them know that you oppose the confirmation of Vivek Murthy for Surgeon General.
The actions you take today will help protect the 2nd Amendment. Please encourage all your friends and family to call as well.

FREEDOM WORKS AS MARIJUANA LAWS FALL–Maryland: House Approves Legislation to Expand Medical Marijuana Program
The Maryland House of Delgates approved legislation, House Bill 1321, which would expand the state’s medical marijuana program in a 127 to 9 vote on Monday, March 17. The legislation is now awaiting action in the state Senate.
HB 1321 would allow certified physicians to discuss and recommend marijuana to their patients for medicinal use. It would also license cultivators and providers to grow and distribute marijuana to patients possessing a doctor’s recommendation. You can read the full text of this legislation here.

Louisiana: Marijuana Decriminalization Measure Introduced
Legislation is pending in the House to reduce marijuana possession penalties to a non-criminal, fine-only offense.
House Bill 906 amends penalties for the possession of up to once ounce of marijuana from a criminal offense (punishable by up to six-months in jail) to a fine-only, no arrest, jail, or criminal record. It is pending before the House Administration of Criminal Justice.
Separate Senate legislation, SB 323, which seeks to reduce penalties on any marijuana offense to no more than a criminal misdemeanor is also pending.
In 2010, some 13,500 Louisianans were arrested for marijuana possession violations — the 19th highest total of any state in the nation. Repeat violators in the state face years in prison. Passage of HB 906 will prevent minor marijuana offenders from facing arrest, incarceration, and a lifelong criminal record.

ONLY IN CALIFORNIA–Members of the California Assembly are considering legislation, Assembly Bill 2500, to impose ‘per se’ criminal penalties to individuals who drive with trace levels of THC or any other Schedule I through Schedule IV substance in their body — regardless of whether he/she is behaviorally impaired. AB 2500 has been referred to the Public Safety Committee.
NORML and California NORML opposes the imposition of this legislation.
THC, particularly in more regular users — such as state-qualified medical marijuana patients — may be present for periods of time extending beyond any reasonable period of impairment. In one recent study, several experienced cannabis users still had detectable levels of THC present in their blood after seven days of monitored abstinence. As a result, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration affirms, “It is difficult to establish a relationship between a person’s THC blood or plasma concentration and performance impairing effects. … It is inadvisable to try and predict effects based on blood THC concentrations alone.”
The United States Department of Transportation Drug Expert Recognition Training materials similarly acknowledge: “Toxicology has some important limitations. One limitation is that, with the exception of alcohol, toxicology cannot produce “per se” proof of drug impairment. That is, the chemist can’t analyze the blood or urine and come up with a number that “proves” the person was or wasn’t impaired.”
This proposed ‘per se’ measure is an unscientific and disproportionate response to behavior that is already sufficiently addressed by present traffic safety laws. The sole presence of THC and/or its metabolites in blood, particularly at low levels, is an inconsistent and largely inappropriate indicator of psychomotor impairment in cannabis consuming subjects. The imposition and enforcement of these strict liability standards risks inappropriately convicting unimpaired subjects of traffic safety violations, including those persons who are consuming cannabis legally in accordance with other state statutes.
Please visit NORML’s ‘Take Action Center’ to urge your member of the Assembly to vote ‘no’ on AB 2500.

At one point California was the bastion of freedom. Now it contains the most highly regulated anti-freedom society in the world. But they can proudly say, “We passed more laws than anywhere. We will gladly torture, fine, and imprison any citizen to save a dime or to lower emissions by .00001 percent.” Sacramento has been banned from the society of the Code of the West, forever.–Bandit
AND SO IT IS—As we pass through the night. Does anything matter? I’m reading a book called Uriel’s Dream, the study of the history of man. Man may have kicked off several million years ago. They have discovered that man is at least well over 100,000 years old, but I’m just starting.
I’ll be curious about Russell Crow’s new movie about Noah. They claim that folks knew what might happen to the earth so they prepped for it. So does it really make a hill of beans what we do, or don’t do?
Brother Jeremiah was in a motorcycle accident a couple of nights ago, and I visited him in the hospital. He’s going to be okay, but his dresser wiped out a Dodge Charger. Next week I will bring you the secrets behind the LePera line of racing stripe seats.
So, what the hell. We hung the 5-Ball neon in the shop. I’m hanging more art by Larry Grossman, just in case we dodge another Tsunami or meteorite hit. You just never know. Hell, my 91-year-old ma just had a hip rebuilt. I asked her if she’s going to join the volleyball team.
What the hell, maybe I should buy a fifth of whiskey and go after another redhead.
