Hey,
I try to ride my bicycle with highbars once a week for a couple of miles and to a series of exercises in the Wilmington Park. It only takes me about 10 minutes to ride to the park over Avalon Boulevard and into a semi-industrial area, before I come to the massive Wilmington park.
It took a major uprising from the people of Wilmington to stop a massive container parking area from being built and the area grabbed from the port and turned into a buffer park–a major improvement for the community. It changed the face of Wilmington and folks’ lives forever.
My pedaling path took me through about four intersections. The first was a four-way stop. As I entered the asphalt and old cobblestone four-way boulevard stop a sedan blew through without even hesitating.
The next block contained a two-way stop in my favor. A woman in a large SUV hesitated then rolled through her stop without even looking my way.
By the third two-way I became seriously caucus. Again as I approached the intersection so did a woman in a smaller, all-black SUV. I tried to make eye-contact, but although she approached from the north this time she didn’t look east as all, but looked west and rolled through the intersection. This time I rang my goofy bell, but she had traversed the intersection. I caused her alarm, and she attempted to look around, but WTF?
I survived to accomplish my workout, but I made sure to watch my ass riding home on a blistering day on the coast. Get this, during my sweating pedal home I came to one of these two-way stop in which I had the right-away. As I approached, so did a fast moving Semi barreling down on the intersection as if he was on fire. But he came to a complete, albeit abrupt stop, looked all direction and acknowledged my presence. We waved, I crossed the intersection and he went on his way.
I’m not blaming the other encounters on women, SUV drivers, any race, or anything. Shit happens and we need to be keen observers of our surroundings. Let’s hit the news, enjoy the redheads and I’ll touch on what I believe is the real culprit for distractions.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STRONG WORD OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND--bravura
[bruh-vyoor-uh, -voor-uh]
1.
a display of daring; brilliant performance.
2.
Music. a florid passage or piece requiring great skill and spirit in the performer.
“Nothing wins more loyalty for a leader than an air of bravura,” the Duke said. “I, therefore, cultivate an air of bravura.”
The noun bravura is still unnaturalized in English. The word is obviously Italian, ultimately derived from the adjective bravo, which French borrowed from Italian as brave (English brave comes from French). Further etymology of bravo is unclear: some claim it to be from an assumed Vulgar Latin brabus (Latin barbarus) “barbarian” (Roman authors remarked on the impetuous bravery of Celtic and Germanic warriors). The Italian suffix -ura (-ure in French) comes from the Latin noun suffix -ura. Bravura entered English in the 18th century.

WHY NO TRANSGENDER IN THE MILITARY–Trey Gowdy just said a few things about the military in response to a stupid question from a CNN reporter about the ban of transgender. He nails it!
Nobody has a “right” to serve in the Military. Nobody. What makes people think the Military is an equal opportunity employer? Very far from it.
The Military uses prejudice regularly and consistently to deny citizens from joining for being too old or too young, too fat or too skinny, too stupid, too tall or too short. Citizens are denied for having flat feet, or for missing or additional fingers. Poor eyesight will disqualify you, as well as bad teeth. Malnourished? Drug addiction? Bad back? Criminal history? Low IQ? Anxiety? Phobias? Hearing damage? Six arms? Hear voices in your head? Self-identify as a Unicorn?
Need a special access ramp for your wheelchair? Can’t run the required course in the required time? Can’t do the required number of pushups? Not really a “morning person” and refuse to get out of bed before noon? All can be reasons for denial.
The Military has one job. War! Anything else is a distraction and a liability. Did someone just scream “That isn’t Fair”? War is VERY unfair, there are no exceptions made for being special or challenged or socially wonderful. YOU change yourself to meet Military standards. Not the other way around.
I say again: You don’t change the Military…you must change yourself. The Military doesn’t need to accommodate anyone with special issues. The Military prides itself on WINNING WARS.
If any of your personal issues are a liability that detract from readiness or lethality… Thank you for applying and good luck in future endeavors.

SALT NEWS–Even if we are successful in DC, the “rehab” will take years. Had an “eyes-on” report from a 400MPH hopeful who told me the dirt layer has been covered after many years of exposure, but it is still very thin, so its a matter of time before each track disintegrates and has to shifted left or right.
I am slowly restarting the magnum opus of the century of speed for the University of Utah Press that was put on hold to fight the bureaucratic wrecking Bonneville.
It will be the last such gargantuan work on the subject as I will be selling/donating my entire archive once its finished. The last move required 35 banker boxes just for the Bonneville stuff!
Hope to get back to SoCal around Thanksgiving. Maybe we can catch-up over a brew or two.

BUTTE MONTANA —An 11 Yr. Old Who Shot Illegals… thanks FOX NEWS for reporting it.
A Shotgun-armed Preteen vs. Illegal Alien Home Invaders:
Two illegal aliens, Ralphel Resindez, 23, and Enrico Garza, 26, probably believed they would easily over-power home-alone 11-year-old Patricia Harrington after her father had left their two-story home. It seems these crooks never learned two things:
They were in Montana, and Patricia, had been a clay-shooting champion, since she was nine. Patricia was in her upstairs room, when the two men, broke through the front door, of the house. She quickly ran, to her father’s room, & grabbed his 12-gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun. Resindez was the first to get up to the second floor, only to be the first to catch a near point blank blast, of buckshot from the 11-year-old’s knee-crouch aim. He suffered
fatal wound’s to his abdomen, & genitals.
When Garza ran to the foot of the stairs, he took a blast to the left shoulder, & staggered out into the street where he bled to death, before medical help could arrive.
It was found out later, that Resindez was armed, with a stolen 45-caliber handgun, he took, during another home invasion robbery. That victim, 50-year-old David 0’Burien, wasn’t so lucky. He died from stab wounds to the chest.
Ever wonder why good stuff never makes NBC, CBS, PBS, MSNBC, CNN, or ABC news? An 11-year-old-girl, properly trained, defended her home, and herself, against two murderous illegal immigrant’s, and she wins.
She is still alive. Now THAT is Gun Control!
Thought for the day: Calling an illegal alien an ‘un-documented immigrant,’ is like calling a drug dealer, an ‘un-licensed pharmacist.’ I

NMA ALERT–On the Road to Ten: Canned Cameras
As we continue the march toward the publication of the 520th consecutive weekly issue of the NMA e-newsletter later this year, we will on occasion highlight reader favorites over these past ten years.
The first installment, NMA E-Newsletter #486, focused on discussions of speed limits. Here we take on the second-most covered newsletter topic through the years: photo enforcement.
The golden oldies are still with us: red-light and speed cameras. They continue to be supplemented by new applications as camera vendors try to push aside corruption convictions and incompetence (if not fraud) by inventing new ways to profit from bringing a privatized element into traffic enforcement. Automated license plate readers, school bus stop arm cameras, transit bus cameras targeting parking violations, even eye-in-the-sky drones. The possibilities of surveillance and ticketing by cameras are nearly endless, keeping the NMA alert for the inevitable abuses.
Here are some of the highlights of our e-newsletter coverage of automated traffic schemes:
Issue #30 – Redflex Red-faced about Automated Traffic Ticket Notices (August 4, 2009)
Phoenix traffic court was flooded by thousands of ticketed residents, all assigned the same appearance date and time by notices processed by Redflex. Delays were enormous, defendants were angry, and court personnel stressed. Signaling a defiant nature and a penchant for spin that we’ve seen time and time again from the camera companies, Redflex simply said the number of simultaneous appearances wasn’t unusual but it did illustrate a serious speeding problem in Phoenix.
Issue #61 – Here, There, Everywhere (March 9, 2010)
Since this newsletter was published, billions more license plates have been captured by automated license plate readers around the country. The information is not only compared against law enforcement databases, it is sold by private contractors to whichever entity is willing to pay the right price. Check out the embedded video to get a sense of how ALPRs indiscriminately scoop up license plate images as vehicles are passed on the road or in parking lots.
Issue #140 – Lock, Stock, and Barrel (September 13, 2011)
Unadulterated support for red-light cameras by the editorial board of a Florida newspaper. It gave us an opportunity to debunk common claims about the effectiveness of the cameras and to highlight some of the pushback against the editorial by readers in the online comments. Institutional thinking by the press and critical thinking by the public.
Issue #202 – We Need Federal Yellow-Light Timing Standards Now (November 25, 2012)
As the title suggests, the NMA took then-FHWA Administrator Victor Mendez to task for not putting proper controls in place for a key variable of intersection safety. Weak guidelines “. . . enable red-light camera operators to claim compliance with federal standards while still setting up dangerously short yellows — a practice that drives up violation rates and their ticket revenues.”
Issue #220 – An Insider Speaks Out About Red-Light Cameras (March 31, 2013)
Presented is an extraordinary letter from a county clerk in Florida circuit court condemning how the camera program operated and itemizing each of the due process abuses the system imposes on ticket camera defendants.
Issue #263 – School Bus Cameras – The Latest Safety Fraud (January 27, 2014)
The evidence presented here is still the basis for ongoing debates about the use of school bus stop-arm cameras. Proponents play the child safety card, and so do we. NHTSA data show that during a recent 10-year period, 123 school-age pedestrians died. Seventy-two percent were killed by the bus while the entire country saw an average of 3.5 deaths per year caused by passing vehicles during the period. The logical focus should be on better safety education for the school bus drivers and for the children during the loading/unloading phases, but ticket cameras continue to dominate the conversation. We have since added School Bus Stop-Arm Camera information on the Motorists.org site.
Issue #347 – IIHS Shills for Camera Industry (September 6, 2015)
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is creative in its projections. We’ll give them that. This newsletter was triggered by an IIHS report that makes the bold statement, “If all U.S. communities had speed-camera programs like the one IIHS studied in Maryland’s Montgomery County, more than 21,000 fatal or incapacitating injuries would have been prevented in 2013.” That is a staggering claim, one easily debunked as our allies at TheNewspaper.com and Maryland Drivers Alliance did in this case.
Issue #401 – J’accuse! The Future of Traffic Enforcement? (September 18, 2016)
Who needs expensive enforcement camera installations when everyone’s smartphone can be converted into a mobile snitch device?
An app turns your phone into a dash-cam that records what everyone is doing on the road around you and if any of those actions register as questionable, the offender’s license plate is captured, uploaded to a master database and broadcast to warn other drivers of this menace on the road. There is nothing to stop the app developer from turning a tidy profit by selling the alleged wrongdoer data to insurance companies.
Canned cameras indeed.

SILVERTIDE GUITAR FOUND, RESTORED AND FOR SALE–Silvertide fans, guitar players, and guitar collectors, this one’s for you…
This is without a doubt the most significant piece of Silvertide memorabilia ever up for grabs.
Re-introducing to some of you my 1995 Gibson SG aka the “Abilene SG”, back from the grave to sing once more.
This was one of two Gibson SG’s I had in the original era of the band. Pre-record deal. Pre-Show And Tell. In fact I bought the guitar back when the band was still called Virtigo (misspelt on purpose) before the name change to Silvertide.
I can’t say for certain how many, but I know many of Silvertide’s original songs were written on this guitar. I know for sure an outtake called “Dragonfly” and I believe “Mary Jayne” and “To See Where I Hide” as well. Probably dozens more.
It was purposely broken at the end of a solo (I’m sorry, I was young and stupid) during a very influential showcase in NYC at the legendary “Don Hills”. This was a showcase for our soon-to-be label and publicist.
The guitar then sat in a case in my parents house for 16 years until I rediscovered it last year. Over the last 12 months myself and friend Rob Mondell (Mondell Custom Guitars) have been meticulously restoring her and bringing this incredible Instrument back to life.
Pictured here are just some of the photos from the restoration. Link below to see the full story of the guitar, 40+ photos, and a new demo video..

I’m holding a private auction starting NOW. Email your best offer to nickperrimusic@gmail.com
I will confirm your bid upon receipt and let you know where the current bid is at, and give you a chance to rebid if necessary. Starting bid is $2500.
100% of the proceeds will go towards funding new recordings with my band The Underground Thieves.
Aside from the original wood which is all repaired and in-tact, the guitar has been upgraded with brand new Grover vintage-style tuners, Bare Knuckle “Mule” PAF pickups, new CTS pots and RS Guitarworks caps, new wiring and output jack, freshly polished frets, and a pro setup. She sounds A-MAZING and is rich with mid-range creamy sustain.
(Original tuners and pickups will come in the original black Epiphone case that came with the guitar. AND I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL STRINGS FROM THE LAST SILVERTIDE SHOW IT WAS PLAYED!
The Abilene SG is ready for a new home.
May the force be with you!

THE HOMELESS SITUATION IN LOS ANGELES–Mayor Garcetti has said that homelessness is one of the great humanitarian issues of our time — and he and his city are doing something about it.
Every year, L.A. conducts an official count of its homeless population — to ensure that we are tracking progress and making sure initiatives are driving results. This year we heard some great news — veteran homelessness, chronic homelessness, and overall homeless are DOWN here in L.A.:
[The Number of Homeless People in LA Has Gone Down in 2018]
The next step to ending homelessness in L.A. is to harness grassroots support. Will you join us? Add your name now.
We have so much potential for progress. After decades of inaction, Los Angeles is matching record levels of funding with a real strategic plan:
A new army of 1,000 outreach workers to relocate people from the street.
A new Bridge Housing initiative to build more shelters and transition people from the streets to a permanent home — because you can’t just move someone, give them a set of keys, and walk away. This initiative is being launched in each of Los Angeles’ 15 City Council Districts.
$430 million in funding in this year’s budget, an exponentially larger figure than in previous years.
Groundbreaking initiatives: Measure HHH, to build 10,000 units of housing paired with services, and Measure H, to fund those services.
It’s a start, and we should be proud.
But it’s just that: A start. There’s so much more to do, and we must make sure our neighbors understand the clear choice — people sleeping on our sidewalks or people being helped into secure places that protect neighborhoods and prepare them to live in a home of their own permanently.
Let’s End Homelessness »
And we can’t stop there. The plight of the homeless isn’t just found in L.A. — it’s spiking all across California and across the country. We must demand more from our state leaders in Sacramento and our country’s leaders in Washington. It’s a national crisis — and we must treat it as such.
Everyone needs to get on board. Can we count on you?
–Rick Jacobs

NEVER FORGET YOUR FRIENDS–A newlywed young man was sitting on the porch on a humid day, sipping ice tea with his Father.
As he talked about adult life, marriage, responsibilities, and obligations, the Father thoughtfully stirred the ice cubes in his glass and cast a clear, sober look on his Son.
“Never forget your friends,” he advised, “they will become more important as you get older.”
“Regardless of how much you love your family and the children you happen to have, you will always need friends. Remember to go out with them occasionally (if possible), but keep in contact with them somehow.
“What strange advice!” thought the young man. “I just entered the married world, I am an adult and surely my wife and the family that we will start will be everything I need to make sense of my life.”
Yet, he obeyed his Father; kept in touch with his friends and annually increased their number. Over the years, he became aware that his Father knew what he was talking about.
Inasmuch as time and nature carry out their designs and mysteries on a person, friends are the bulwarks of our life.
After 70 years of life, here is what he, I and you will have learned:
Time passes. Life goes on. Children grow up.
Children cease to be children and become independent. And to the parents, it breaks their heart but the children are separated of the parents because they begin their own families.
Jobs/careers come and go.
Illusions, desires, attraction, sex….weakens.
People can’t do what they did physically when they were young.
Parents die but you move on.
Colleagues forget the favors you did .
The race to achieve slows.
But, true friends are always there, no matter how long or how many miles away they are.
A friend is never more distant than the reach of a need, intervening in your favor, waiting for you with open arms or in some way blessing your life.
When we started this adventure called LIFE, we did not know of the incredible joys or sorrows that were ahead. We did not know how much we would need from each other. Love your parents, take care of your children, but keep a group of good friends. Stay in touch with them but do not impose your criteria.
–Steve Bauman
KEEPING THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN ON WEEKENDS– On their way to the church to get married, a young Catholic couple were involved in a fatal car accident.
Being good Catholics the young couple find themselves sitting outside the Pearly Gates waiting for St. Peter to process them into Heaven.
While waiting, they begin to wonder: could they possibly get married in Heaven?
When St. Peter finally showed up, they asked him.
St Peter said “I don’t know. This is the first time anyone has asked. Let me go find out” and he leaves them sitting at the Gate.
After three months, St Peter finally returns, looking somewhat bedraggled. “Yes” he informs the couple ” I can get you married in Heaven”.
“Great!” said the couple “But we were just wondering, what if things don’t work out? Could we also get a divorce in Heaven?”
“You must be bloody joking” says St. Peter, red-faced with frustration, slamming his clipboard on the ground.
“What’s wrong?” asked the frightened couple”.
“OH, COME ON!” St. Peter shouted “It took me three months to find a priest up here…..Do you have any idea how long it’ll take me to find a lawyer?”

The jobs keep coming
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released its monthly jobs report today, revealing that more than 200,000 jobs were added to the economy last month. Average hourly earnings for workers increased, as well.
Critics’ pessimistic predictions about the U.S. economy under President Trump have not held up. Business fixed investment grew by 9.2 percent during the first quarter of 2018, while hourly compensation for private-sector workers grew at a 4 percent annual rate—the fastest pace in at least 12 years.
The President’s tax cuts played a huge part. “Not only are American firms putting money back to work in the U.S., but foreign firms are as well,” Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Kevin Hassett said. Treasurer of the United States Jovita Carranza called tax cuts a “great, great return for the taxpayers.”
The Trump job boom continues to pull workers off the sidelines.
Throwback: “We ran out of words to describe how good the job numbers are.”
Who will President Trump nominate to the Court?
On Monday, President Trump will announce his nominee to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy as the Supreme Court’s next Associate Justice. “Justice Kennedy has been a tireless voice for individual rights and the Founders’ enduring vision of limited government,” the President said.
Stay up to date on President Trump’s nominee, the confirmation process, and the larger fight to restore the rule of law in America using the link below. GUN NUT REPORT–NJ Governor Ignores Vets In Magazine Ban Exemption
Any time there is any kind of ban, there are usually exceptions carved out. As anti-gun zealots who become lawmakers seem to believe that some animals are more equal than others, they usually make sure some people get special treatment, particularly with anti-gun measures.
In New Jersey, they recently pushed through a ban on standard capacity magazines. In the process, they placed an exemption for retired law enforcement. It seems retired police officers might need more than ten rounds in their guns while the ordinary peons in the state wouldn’t.
However, there’s one group of people who weren’t exempted that normally are.
As they clamored to ban standard capacity firearms magazines and turn one million law-abiding citizens into criminals with the stroke of a pen, NJ Governor Phil Murphy and legislators silenced objections from law enforcement by exempting retired police from the ban. But they made a “mistake” in their pandering strategy that could prove fatal to the new law – they failed to also exempt military veterans from the 10-round limit.
Their pandering blunder reveals a serious violation of equal protection under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: an arbitrary privilege afforded to one group cannot be denied to others who are similarly situated. Retired police and military veterans both have civilian status – the same status as every one of New Jersey’s one million gun owners.
Exempting retired police over veterans, and also over the entire civilian population itself, violates equal protection.
“Lawmakers thought they were pre-empting a groundswell of law enforcement opposition to the magazine ban by exempting retired police,” said Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs Executive Director Scott Bach. “Instead, they created a vulnerability that threatens the very existence of their precious new law, and Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs is making the most of that vulnerability.”

IT’S STILL SORTA HOT ON THE COAST—It’s supposed to taper off tomorrow. I’m thinking about welding later today until I can’t handle it.
I’m working on a quick metal art piece for the flying Piston Charity Breakfast. I’m a nut. I get inspired, struggle to get the project off the ground, then find myself faltering in my attempt to create something very cool. I suppose most creative sorts go through the questioning phase.
This is going to be a magnificent week. I’m going to start a process for getting shit off my plate. Hopefully by Thursday, you will see a truly cool metal art piece coming together, and I will report on two other items relieved from my hands.
I had an epiphany regarding Sturgis. I’m going, but I need to take a side trip to Carson City, Nevada on the way. My mission is secure. Plans are underway.
I’m bringing Sin Wu back to the next Cantina Episode. It should be a good one. As of next week you’ll see Mike Pullin’s Smoke Out Report, Tim Remus on classic Triumphs, and the Wayfarer on Biker Poetry.
