Hey,
I’m grappling with my future, actually 2013. If I survive the projects list hammering us this year, I want to shift into a more relaxed mode next year. I won’t stop, just reduce the number of projects to a more manageable list—two things: Write another book and build another Bonneville project, a streamlined trike. Don’t tell anyone. It’s a secret, but we are working with Campagna Trikes on a chassis, and JIMS on a 135 Twin Cam and transmission. We are considering two body styles, the historic belly tank from WWII, or a body Dan Stern, House of Thunder Harley-Davidson, is developing for a sidecar he’s building right now out of fiberglass.
I don’t know why, but this Bonneville Project excites the hell out of me. And of course we will cover this on Bikernet Trikes. Even Air Ride trailers is already planning the custom trailer for this puppy.

Next year, this old guy will be 65, and still damn fortunate to be able to pick and go after the projects of his choosing–amazing.
So, here’s the plan. I’m going to write the Chance book. It’s a tough one, but a movie producer told me he wants to produce a movie around this theme. A number of folks are concerned about freedoms in this country. But I think I’m going to start the relationship book maybe with a team of writers, since it will take a couple of years of research. It’s working title is The Dogs vs. The Evil Nesters. Hang on for this. This is all secret right now. Only Cantina members get the scoop, until next year.
FREEDOM VS. SAFETY–
It’s interesting, this bureaucratic scenario: Even one life is too many, we must ramp up whatever it is, so give us more money, more power, more legislative authority. That mantra has been drilled into us for several decades until it’s accepted at the reasonable rule.
So what does it actually mean? It’s the game agencies play for more money and power. So we restrict folks from doing what they love for most of their lives, so the medical profession can have their way throughout the last illness stricken decade. It’s all about money. Keep you alive, so you keep spending, until there is nothing left. Somehow, freedom needs to be important again. We need to change that restrictive perception.
Am I off base?

Way too many people have too much fear and offer too much undeserved respect to figureheads who claim to have authority when the only authority they have is what the cowed down masses give them by their fear of authority. All is not lost, but it is going to be a long uphill road to get this country back on the right track.

The next day we were up early and Gary, Vicki and I rolled to Waugh Enterprises in Orange, Virginia. They are the local Harley dealer and old friends of mine. Waugh’s is a family owned dealership and has been around motorcycles forever. Mr. Waugh is famous for his sidecar rigs and over in the corner there sat his latest version. As we were leaving so was he. He blasted down the black top out of sight! Mr. Waugh has always been known to roll the throttle on hard.
The next day Saturday was spent with my family. My Mom, my brothers Kemp, Gary & Timmy and their families. Saturday night was one of Vicki’s favorite times. The local volunteer firemen’s carnival! If you grew up or live in Culpeper, Virginia it is a call of duty to attend. Culpeper, Virginia is a small town, but this is a BIG event! Well, it might take Vicki a couple more years before the carnival atmosphere sinks in?
All of the local Capitol region dealers and independent shops have parties and rides rolling all weekend, so you won’t run out of places to visit or things to do.
Sunday morning arrived and we had our kickstands up at 8 a.m. We pulled out 30 strong slicing a trail to Washington D.C. About an hour, or so later, we rolled into the big D. We ran our usual tour. We hit Thunder Alley, which is vendor alley. This is where all the vendors set up for the weekend. Food, t-shirt, helmets, helmet stickers, leather, it is all found in Thunder Alley.
The Vietnam Memorial Wall, the Korean War monument-wall, and the World War II monuments were all lined with visitors. If you have never seen these monuments, you owe to yourself to attend THE RUN FOR THE WALL NEXT YEAR; you will never forget the experience.
THE RUN TO THE WALL for me is about paying respects and saying, “Thank You” to all of those names on the wall and to all the brother of all wars. They paid the ultimate price for the freedom we enjoy. If not for them there would be no rides of freedom on Memorial Day weekend.
The riders assemble in the Pentagon parking lot and the parade heads out at high noon. The parade from start to finish will last close to three hours! This year leading the parade were the bikes built for the armed services? They were all nice bikes, but for me I really liked Billy Lane’s Air Force bike.

QUICK MEET ME IN THE LOBBY–
The collapse of a shark tank at The Scientific Center in Kuwait. Share this because it’s probably the only time in your life you’ll see something like this.
As awesome as this list is, it does not begin to tell the whole story.
For example, a courageous group of California Judges, called “The Alliance”
is trying to fight the huge waste inside the court branch caused by the former Chief Justice Ron George accumulating a staff of over 1,000 high-paid employees in San Francisco that never resolved a case or even see the inside of a court room.
For perspective, there are only about 1200 judges throughout the state to resolve some six million new cases filed each year.
The staff of the chief justice costs over 100 million dollars a year to maintain, while court clerks and judges are taking pay cuts and closing courtrooms depriving Californians of their day in court in a timely fashion.
While the mass of state agencies shown below is bad enough, their rampant incompetence multiplies the problem…and Jerry says we need more taxes…pure hooey.

But of course, the only places they can cut costs are . . .Education, Police and Fire according to both state and federal politicians.
Whether you’re a Democrat, a Republican or Independent, this list has to shock you. Over the years, these very same politicians have created this enormous pork barrel of agencies that employ about as many people as the total population of the State of Alaska. All of these people get salaries, medical coverage and pensions at the expense of California citizens.
Government gone wild. Pretty unbelievable, isn’t it?

Appropriate vintage belt buckles hunted down, machined, re-worked, straightened and riveted to bag. Branded rank/name/branch + ‘70s era flag sewn on. Custom made dog tags. It’s not perfect …less than ideal to work in old brass that you don’t wanna mess up, since you only have what you have and there ain’t no re-dos to be had. Thus, the issues with lining up rivets, etc. But maybe that just adds to the flair. Started in on this project last year.

Steve is the owner and operator of VL Heaven, a company that specializes in 1930-36 Harley-Davidson V-series motorcycles, and over the past 20 years, he’s spent his life collecting and producing parts to keep these bikes on the road.
When it comes to VLs, Steve is the guy to contact, and probably knows more about this era of Harley’s history than Harley-Davidson itself.
About a year ago, Steve got the wild idea to recreate a newsreel segment that was filmed by the California Highway Patrol in 1935. The newsreel featured several members of the CHP, aboard their brand new Police pursuit motorcycles — all 1936 Harley-Davidson VLH 80 cubic inch flatheads — demonstrating the superior qualities of HD’s new top of the line machine. ’36 was the first and only year that the VLH was offered, making it a very rare bike, so when I heard that Steve was building a total of five of them for the project, I didn’t know whether to believe it or not.
Well after a few emails back and forth, there was no question — by mid-March, two had already been completed and three more were well on their way to being finished by the first of May.
Now Steve is a bit of a perfectionist.. he likes his machines to not only run and operate well, but also look the part too. Before each of the machines were shipped to Wheels Through Time, they were rigorously judged for accuracy at various AMCA meets — each receiving 90+ points on their scoring card.
So where do we at Wheels Through Time come in? When it comes to old motorcycles, or motorcycles period for that matter, what matters most is that they run like they were designed to run. Here at the museum, we pride ourselves on the fact that over 98% of the museum collection is kept in running and operating condition, so when Steve made the decision that each of his VLH Police bikes had to run top-notch, he knew right where to take ’em.
“Don’t be light on ’em,” he said. “I want you and Dale to really put some miles on these bikes……after all, they each need to run 100 mph for the video.”
This is where I raised an eyebrow. 100 mph??? Who takes their lifetime collection of parts, builds it into near perfect restorations, has them judged for accuracy, then sends them down to us to ride the wheels off ’em? Thats right, Steve Slocombe from VL Heaven does!
By the first of June, all five bike had arrived at Wheels Through Time. While very nicely restored, each machine was only run for a few miles, and all needed to be dialed in and tuned for performance. Over the course of two or three weeks, Dale and I had the chance to make several necessary changes and adjustments, and managed to put a total of a hundred or so miles on the five bikes.
When it came time to shoot the video, Steve arrived with three other tank-shift riders from New Jersey ready to put on the miles. They spent a good portion of the first few days continuing to dial the bikes in, giving each the proper amount of break in before their 100 mph test. Each machine had a few minor issues over the break in period, but nothing 6 good mechanically oriented old bike guys couldn’t fix.
Now VLH’s are pretty fast … no very fast. But redlining a 76 year old machine within only a few revolutions of exploding is risky. Equally punishing five bikes is even riskier. But after a thorough warm-up, a few carburetor adjustments, and the twist of the wrist, each of the five machines mustered up the strength to push past that milestone 100 mile-per-hour mark that Harley had prided so much.
We’re currently working on finishing up the recreation of the 1935 Newsreel, so keep an eye out at WheelsThroughTime.com for the new video. As for the bikes…..all five are currently on display at Wheels Through Time Museum in our “MotorCops: Police and Motorcycles” exhibit, and will be for the remainder of the summer.

HOT NEW EXHAUST
Exclusive report in the making. We are following the progress of a new muffler manufacturer out of Australia. The 750 in the photo made passes at the drag strip in the low 10s, a 10.061 (not bad) on a 750 with a new test muffler. The average 750s were running 10.9 and up. The 750 eventually got beat by a 1300 Busa with a bottle of NOS comin’ on at half track. Bikernet will bring you an exclusive tech in the near future.

Streetable 97-inch Twin Cam Dyna
We removed the Daytona Twin Tech unit and Wego last week in San Jose after suspecting a malfunction. An initial call from Twin Tech indicated a working unit without a problem? The pieces we’re packed and shipped to the factory for a check up early this week.
One of the technicians is installing the unit in his personal bike this week end for an in the field trouble shooting session. A full report is expected early Monday morning from South Daytona, Florida. These guys are good. Thanks.

Building a motorcycle from axel to axel off of a drawing on a bar room napkin is just like rocket science, only better.
Rule No. 1. All plans are subject to change in the name of safety.
Rule No. 2. Refer to Rule No. 1.
Progress nearly everyday this past week. Rick fabricated the plumbing for the Turbo the first part of this week, note the slip joint in the exhaust for easy off and on when service is necessary.
A new improved air plenum is on the short list, nearly completing the Turbo system. After researching the exhaust pipe heat wrap? or no heat wrap?, especially on a Turbo, the pro’s highly recommend keeping heat in the pipe for the fastest air turbulence, delivering maximum efficiency, power, and torque potentials.
The seat/tail section is in the mock up process, foundation for the support system is next. Might want to throw a bag of laundry, a camera, and a laptop in the saddle bags and haul ass across the country someday sooner than later. Ya gotta have support where and when it’s needed for a safe ride to the next destination.
Rick banged out a seat pan for an initial look mid week, the finished seat pan will end up in the hands of the crew at Saddleman for a fast seat, ready for the long haul.
More images and gruesome details as your 5-Ball Racing Team rolls closer to the starting line.

This is the third annual “Rocky Mountain Road Trip.” The event will be held at JN’s private 1800 acre ranch, located about 30 minutes from Helena, Montana. The Friday ride on the ranch features nearly 20 miles of single-track riding through beautiful Rocky Mountain forest. The Friday afternoon ride will take us through some of the prettiest single and two-track trails near JN’s ranch. As in years past, the riders will also join the legends on the Saturday ride in the nearby Helena National Forest, facing more challenging dual-and single track loops. On Sunday morning you will get to ride with Malcolm, Larry and JN for a genuine “On Any Sunday” experience.
This year riding great Larry Roeseler will be joining Malcolm and JN, lending his support to the El Oasis children. Larry Roeseler is one of the greatest competitors in the history of off roading, having won the Baja 1000 thirteen times on both motorcycle and 4-wheel vehicles, having won the Baja 500 eleven times on both 2-wheel and 4-wheel vehicles and is a 10-time ISDE Gold medalist. Larry is also an inductee into the American Motorcyclist Association Hall of Fame. You will have the opportunity to ride and bench-race with Larry, Malcolm and JN.
Celebrating the Life and Times of Edison Dye
A special permanent memorial will be unveiled at the Saturday blowout bash in JN’s backyard. This tribute memorial will be permanently set at Camp JN at a special Sunday morning sunrise ceremony. Edison Dye brought motocross as we now know it to America in the 1960s. He was the first person to import the Husqvarna 2-stroke motorcycle to America in 1966, sponsoring Malcolm Smith on his first Husqvarna motorcycle. As they say the rest is history. JN Roberts won a dazzling 27 straight desert races aboard a Husqvarna in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Malcolm and JN won the 2-wheel class of the inaugural Baja 1000, then called the Mexican 1000, in 1967. Larry Roeseler’s first major Baja 1000 victories were aboard a Husqvarna. The roots of Baja racing and motocross can be traced through the pioneering efforts of Edison Dye. Thank you, Edison Dye!

Erectile dysfunction (ED), the inability to achieve or maintain erections sufficient for intercourse, often has a psychological component, and counseling is encouraged as a primary treatment strategy. However, ED can also be a symptom of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, both of which can impair blood supply to the penis. In addition to lifestyle measures such as checking your medications with your physician, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding alcohol and smoking, and managing stress levels, I recommend the following herbs to help address ED:
Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba). This herb may improve arousal in both men and women, perhaps by increasing blood flow to the genitals. It should not be used by those on blood thinners such as Coumadin/Warfarin.
Ashwagandha. Derived from the roots of a plant in the nightshade family called Withania somnifera, ashwagandha is reputed to be a mild aphrodisiac and has long been popular in India. Ashwagandha is generally safe – follow the dosage on the package, and give it six to eight weeks to have an effect.
Standardized extract of Asian ginseng. Asian ginseng, or Panax ginseng, is a good general stimulant and sexual energizer. Asian ginseng is considered safe but can raise blood pressure and cause irritability and insomnia in some people. Follow the dosage on the package, and give it a six to eight-week trial to see what it can do.

Quail Lodge, Carmel, California
Located in the north of Argentina, is Salta Province, where most residents prefer rugby to soccer.
In order to promote Argentinean beer brand Cerveza Salta to the locals, advertising agency Ogilvy created the ‘Rugbeer’—an interactive vending machine that requires customers to tackle it to receive their beer.
The machine is programmed to dispense a can of beer if enough force is generated from a tackle—as indicated on a ‘pussy meter’.
It even has dewy grass surrounding the vending machine to simulate an actual rugby field.
The Rugbeer vending machine was such a big ‘hit’ that it toured the region—selling 25% more beer.
The concept behind the Rugbeer vending machine is similar to Coca Cola’s ‘Hug Machine’.

In recent newsletters, we’ve discussed what’s really at stake when you plead not guilty or no contest to a traffic violation. You should also consider the impact of a guilty verdict on your auto insurance premium.
According to an Insurance.com study, the average rate increases for being found guilty of various common violations are as follows: Reckless driving: 22 percent DUI first offense: 19 percent Driving without a license or permit: 18 percent Careless driving: 16 percent Speeding 30 mph over the limit: 15 percent Failure to stop: 15 percent Improper turn: 14 percent Improper passing: 14 percent Following too close/tailgating: 13 percent Speeding 15 to 29 mph over limit: 12 percent?Speeding 1 to 14 mph over limit: 11 percent?Failure to yield: 9 percent No car insurance: 6 percent Seat belt infractions: 3 percent.
Keep in mind that these are national averages only and don’t factor in your personal circumstances (e.g., where you live, how long you’ve been with your carrier, how old you are, marital status, your driving history, etc.), so Insurance.com has created a calculator that does. Using this tool, you can find out what the rate increase would be for a particular violation based on plugging in a little (anonymous) data about yourself. (Note that the NMA cannot vouch for the accuracy of the results or the methodology used in the calculations. Note also that Insurance.com does not specify the length of time rates are affected, but it’s generally between three and five years.)
Let’s say I’ve been cited for reckless driving. In Madison, Wisconsin, a conviction will cost me six points on my license. According to the calculator, it will also trigger a 40 percent hike in my insurance premium, based on my specific circumstances. If I pay $1,000 a year in car insurance, my rate could go up to $1,400.
Now, what if I lived somewhere else like Tulsa, Oklahoma? A conviction for the same violation would cost me three points and increase my rate by 28 percent, under the same circumstances. Not quite as bad as in Wisconsin but still pretty steep and definitely worth fighting—considering that the rate hike could last from three to five years. (Points for most violations can stay on your driving record for up to three years, but points for serious offenses, like DUI, can stay on for 10 years or more.)
Note also the cumulative effect citations could have on my driving record. If my driving record is already compromised, that reckless driving charge could not only lead to a hefty rate increase but to a license suspension as well. If I continue driving on a suspended license and get caught, my pain only compounds, and my rates go through the roof (if I can find anyone who will insure me). All the more reason to fight that ticket.
Out-of-state traffic offenses/convictions are not immune because the information will likely find its way back to your home-state insurer and DMV—with similar negative effects. Contest these tickets as vigorously as you can.
ILLUSION CYCLES BAND ATTIKA 7 REVIEWED–The phrase “BADASS” has now been redefined. Take the former lead singer of Biohazard, a biker legend who shreds on guitar, and the bassist who helped form Static X and together you have the ultimate badass fuckin’ band…ATTIKA 7
Evan Seinfeld (vocals), Rusty Coones (guitar), and Tony Campos (bass) will release their debut album “Blood Of My Enemies” on July 31st through Rocket Science Ventures.
The album features songs written by Rusty while he was imprisoned for seven years and with Evan’s tough yet melodic vocals “Blood Of My Enemies” stands out as an example of how metal can have musical and vocal power and still convey a message that stirs emotions from deep within.
The band’s first single is “Devil’s Daughter”, a song that has deep and ominous guitars matched with sinister vocals and a bludgeoning bass. Bands like Type O Negative, Sabbath, and Pantera are huge influences of Attika 7 and pieces of each band are evident in this tune. Evan’s vocal performance is strong and dark like Peter Steele’s Type O work. Rusty’s guitar starts off as something Dime would be proud of and then crunches like older Tony Iommi stuff. The bass stands out in a couple parts and with the drums act as the punishing backbone of the song. The track is a great representation of the rest of the album and can be heard on the band’s website www.attika7.com.
“Crackerman”, the lead track on the album, kicks you right in the chops with the guitar which has this bruising riff that carrys the song. Rusty kills it with a short lead in the middle of the song too that is very inventive shit!
Throughout the album Evan is able to sing with so much power and precision, bringing life to these songs and making you a part of Attika 7 by allowing you to believe in what the band is performing.
Other highlights for me are “Lockdown” which takes you right into the prison system, “All or Nothing” which talks about the strength of brotherhood in friendship, and “Hellbound” which I can’t wait to see performed live because it’s one of those songs that builds momentum and when it unleashes the pits will open up and bodies will thrash.
Attika 7 has had their music featured in the Discovery Channel show “The Devil’s Ride” already and once July 31st hits and America is turned on to this album it’ll be just a matter of time before Attika 7 treks across the country bringing their mix of metal, motorcycles, and mayhem to your town.

UNCLE MONKEY FIRES PROJECT BIKE–With a simple push of a switch my bike fired to life filling the small workspace with thundering exhaust from the short drag pipes. In that brief moment my bike is finished. It is a runner.
Years of hard work, years of saving all came down to that one moment. There have been ups and down like with any builds. I’m like most backyard builders; I’m not flush with cash able to buy things at a drop of a hat. It has meant the bike has had to wait while life went on with birthday presents, house and car repairs, and the occasional trip to SoCal to check in at the BikerNet intergalactic headquarters.
The bike still has a few gremlins to exorcist namely a starter jackshaft that only engages the ring gear once every twenty tries after that first start and the handlebar kill switch doesn’t kill. I’m sure there will be a few more that will pop up when I take the bike down from the lift but for now I am happy to say the bike is finished. I had planned to do an Evel Kniel/Captain American inspired bike named “Am I Evil” but the bike has picked its own name preferring to be called Snow White.
Bike building isn’t like you see on TV. Even the TV builds are not like they are on TV. Parts don’t come in on time, things don’ t line up properly. Parts that are to come with mounting hardware and mounts don’t. It is a matter of rolling with the punches and keeping your head above water. Deadlines get pushed from spring to fall to next year. I had hoped to have Snow White finished for our riding club’s poker run in May, which came and went and became a goal on St Victor Boogie weekend in June. With zero miles and a finicky starter she probably won’t be making it to the ball.
It is the last thousand dollars that are the hardest. It is easy to collect parts over months and slowly tinker away at a bike but the day comes when the bike is on the lift, painted, mostly assembled that money becomes an issue. You are so close to finishing but yet so far. The last thousand.
The road is calling; it’s been months, maybe even years since you rode. Everything is there on the surface. It is the little things that are needed, longer bolts for the signal lights and mirrors, enough oil to do break-in oil changes, a relay here, separating clamps for this line and that. People give you a hard time that the bike will never be finished and you start to think that they are right. I decided to bite the bullet and put that last thousand on the credit card but as of my last statement that thousand seemed to have doubled. It has me worried – worrying will disappear when I finally head out onto the road and feel the wind in my hair and the sun on my skin. Then it will have been worth it.

AUSTRALIAN Finks MC should be declared illegal, ACCORDING TO POLICE–The Queensland police service has sought to have the Gold Coast chapter of the Finks motorcycle club declared a criminal organization in the first use of Queensland’s draconian anti-association laws.
Police filed a formal application with the Supreme Court under the Criminal Organization Act 2009 to declare the club, which would ban members associating with one another.
The legislation, which was put into force in April 2010, was designed to disrupt and dismantle organizations involved in serious criminal activity.
Assistant Commissioner Mike Condon said the court application had come after many months of work from the State Crime Operations Command and the anti-biker Taskforce Hydra.
“As you’d be aware, the legislation is designed to look at criminal organizations involved in serious criminal activity that pose a risk to the community,” he said.
“It’s our view that the Finks Gold Coast chapter pose a great risk to the community, supported by the criminal activity that members of that group have been involved in over many years, such as offences of murder, extortion, robbery, burglary, stalking, depravation of liberty, drug trafficking, unlawful use of motor vehicles, possession of firearms and intimidation and stand-over tactics.
“Clearly, these are offences and activities that the community will not stand for and, in our view, (the Finks) pose a great risk to the community.”
Taskforce Hydra officer in charge Detective Inspector Garry Watts said they had worked hard on the application.
“It was new legislation; we’ve gained experience in using that legislation and certainly the next application we make we believe will be in a shorter time period,” he said.
When asked whether Taskforce Hydra was preparing another application, Inspector Watts remained coy.
“I’m not going to answer that question at this stage,” he said.
But Inspector Watts said he was satisfied with the legislation, which he said was a valuable addition to their legal arsenal.
“It’s given us another tool in our tool kit to disrupt and dismantle criminal elements within outlaw motorcycle clubs,” he said.
Mr Condon said the QPS was confident in its legal position in making the application.
“The preparation of an application is a comprehensive and lengthy process. A single application requires thorough investigation supported by significant evidence in order to meet the requirements of the legislation,” he said.
“The team at Taskforce Hydra have been working exhaustively since the legislation was passed to bring us to this point…
“This application is part of a wider enforcement strategy by the QPS to disrupt and dismantle those outlaw motorcycle gangs in Queensland who engage in criminal activity.
“This should be seen as a warning to other (outlaw motorcycle clubs) who engage in criminal activity and present a risk to the community. Make no mistake, we will not hesitate to use these powers.”
