HORSE SMOKE OUT WEST 2–The HORSE Backstreet Choppers announces its Horse Smoke Out West 2. The dates are October 6 and 7, 2007, in Cottonwood, Arizona.

It’s an event. It’s the gathering of the chopper faithful. It’s beautiful women, vendors and beer, sure, but the Horse Smoke Out is about more than that. The Horse Smoke Out is about choppers. Every year builders – from professional builders to those bloody-knuckled guys (and ladies) that burn the midnight oil – build choppers they can call their own. They ride those bikes – American, British and Metric chops – to the Horse Smoke Out.

The two day event includes the best chopper show in the country. The show has one class and that is chopper. The Horse staff picks ten winners to be featured in future issues of the Horse Backstreet Choppers magazine.

There are at least four bands, but we will only announce one today – HellBound Hayride. Get a taste of Hellbound on the Smoke Out website at (horsebackstreetchoppers.com).

See ya there.

VIOLATOR MOTORCYCLE COMING FROM EUROPE TO GIRLS OF BIKERNET–Watch for a full feature on this bike to hit the free section and the girl will slip into Bandit’s Cantina, and you gotta join. Hold on, before you roll your eyes and head for another beer, it’s just 10 bucks for the entire year. That’s right. Lotsa sites charge more than 10 bucks for a month, but I know how poor, poor scooter tramps are, so I’ve kept the price right at the bottom of the pushrod adjustment. So join now, goddamnit. You’re burnin’ daylight. This bike is from:

GOOD NEWS FOR BIKE WEEK VISITORS– Florida Today newspaper has an article in it about tourism being down on the Space Coast. Well that is not the only place it is down and I do not know why that is, but I do know that when that happens room rates also go down to attract more visitors.

Well except for Daytona Beach, they look at the Bikers as the golden goose. Many of the visitors to Florida are finding lodging in Cocco Beach and other parts of the Space Coast. These places offer lodging at reasonable rates, plus fine dining and entertainment.

They are just a short ride to Daytona and the Biker Friendly places that you will want to attend. If you have not made your reservations yet you may want to consider this.

BIKERNET DUNK TANK DUNKS STEEL DREAMS AND PATRIOT MOTORCYCLES THIS WEEK–We blackballed them when I was with Dealernews… so it really sucks to see them come slinking in the back door again. The only Patriot stuff I publish now in MPN is news of them losing lawsuits … oh, and running their address in the buyer’s guide so that the bill collectors can find them!

DAYTONA HOTEL UPDATE–Tell me that things are not going all that well with the high dollars hotels in Daytona when they have to have Harley hustling for them. It shows that many are staying outside of down town. Maybe if they kept their rates the same as for other times and did not have minimums they would not have this problem

CONNECTICUT BIKERS ASK US TO RAISE OUR VOICES SO THEY CAN RAISE THEIR HANDLEBARS– My name is Peg Papanek and I have been single handedly leading an effort to repeal Connecticut’s 15-inch handlebar law. As a result, State Rep’s.Wilbur and Zalaski have co-sponsor proposed bill # 6937… http://www.cga.ct.gov/2007/TOB/H/2007HB-06937-R00-HB.htm

The bill is currently sitting with the CT Transportation Committee. They need to know by the end of this week (2/15), that riders would like the CT handlebar height restriction eliminated.

It would be helpful if [BIKERS NATIONWIDE] would put a phone call and email into the 2 most important people on the committee. Easy to follow instructions are below. If everyone would pass this on to their riding friends, who pass it on to their friends, we have the potential to move mountains. In advance, “thank you” to everyone who is willing to spend a few moments of their lives to help me with this cause!

Many Thanks!

GETTING A GRIP ON IRAQ– If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2,112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.

The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period.

That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the U.S. Capitol, which has the strictest gun control laws in the nation.

Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington.

TWIN CAM DEWEY TEACHES BANDIT HOW TO RUN A LATHE–When you run a lathe, make sure the tool is centered (height) and make sure you have plenty of relief angle, and if you are getting ‘chatter’ your tool has to be very sharp (tip) NO radius on the tip. Use carbide and it is 8-inch so run around 180-240 rpm. Don’t hang your tool out further than you have too! I hope you are I.D. chucking on the lip (7″) on the inside!

CUSTOM CHROME DECIDES FINALLY TO GIVE ED MARTIN A JOB– Morgan Hill, CA- As Custom Chrome continues to reposition its business for growth, it has called on a leader from within the organization to help spearhead the efforts. Ed Martin, aka “Mr Lucky”, a seasoned industry leader and Custom Chrome veteran, will move from his Texas office to the Morgan Hill, CA headquarters to lead the newly established Custom Chrome Asia Pacific business unit and focus on emerging markets.

Dan Cook, CEO, Global Motorsport Group claimed, “As we look at the overall global market, we see a tremendous opportunity to grow in the Asia Pacific region. While we already have a strong presence in Japan, we still see opportunities to expand. Additionally, Australia and New Zealand are robust markets and we view China, though still emerging, as a future opportunity due to its scale. Ed Martin is the perfect candidate to lead our expansion efforts- he’s one of a kind!”

Martin has over 35 years of experience in the V-Twin industry. He owned and operated a Harley Davidson Franchise in the 70’s & early 80’s, led major initiatives for Custom Chrome during his long tenure with the company that included serving as President of its Chrome Specialties division, revolutionizing the biker apparel market with Streetware4U and, during the past 4 years, resurrecting the Jammer brand targeting the Old School market he foresaw emerging.

Ed also has a unique understanding of the Asian market and culture. Growing up in Japan as the son of a missionary in the 50’s & 60’s, he leaned to not only speak the language fluently, but understand their perspective on things as well. He again lived in Japan in the early 90’s for 2 years, building Custom Chrome’s Dealer network.

“I’ve got Jammer rockin’ & rollin’, and can now focus on other market niches and opportunities available to us”, Martin said. “Japan is my second home, and I’m totally stoked about being able to spend more time there again as well as catch up with my mates down under!. I’m also looking forward to moving back to Morgan Hill and helping transform our company”, Martin finished. He’s not the only one that is thrilled that he will be moving back to California. Holger Mohr, the newly appointed President of Custom Chrome claimed, “It’s going to be a huge help to have Ed around more often. He’s ‘been there, done that’ and his experience is invaluable to me and the rest of the team”. In this newly created role, Martin will report to Mohr and be part of Cook’s extended executive staff. He claimed, “I can’t go into the details just yet, but, “Mr Lucky” still has a few tricks up his sleeve!”.

LEO DIORIO BACKS 5-BALL RACING FOR WORLD’S FASTEST PANHEAD EFFORT–The services I offer aside from my own product line, are my products tailored to other people’s applications.Like my girder on Goldammer’s bike or my pulley brake made to match up with David Perewitz wheels for TV.Or the girder for your Assalt Weapan bike, I also will do design work for other companies in the motorsports fields .

I am now working on parts that have more production applications. What this will mean is the dealer will be able to buy and sell parts that have the same workmanship and detail that they see on many high profile bikes today.

I know what it takes I make those parts. I make a lot of them.
