Hey,
This is one of those happening weekends. So much is going on I don’t know which way to turn. So I’ll just drop the hammer and fly. Daytona bike week kicks off next weekend, so all the activities in Florida are boiling to the surface. We’re going down to check out the new Pirelli line-up, hit a party and sneak outta town.
I’ll sort my thoughts at the end and hope for the sun to shine. I need a ride.

AMERICAN TRADE POLICY STUDY– America used to have a policy of protecting our wages against unfair competition from low-wage countries. We placed a tariff on imported goods made by workers who were paid substandard wages. We protected our national interest.
The idea was to encourage the companies that made those goods to pay better wages. This way their countries’ economies would improve and their workers would be able to buy the things that we make. Thus, the policy of protectionism was a way to improve living standards for workers everywhere, growing our own economy and improving our standard of living in the process.
The money collected from the tariffs was used for our common good: for example, it was spent on improving our country’s infrastructure and education system (including science, research and development) so we could retain and improve our competitive position, as well as retraining workers whose industries were affected by changes in trade patterns.
Protectionism was generally our country’s policy until a few decades ago. That was back when our country was OUR country — for We, the People — and our economy was OUR economy. And it worked. Our living standard continually improved. Then we changed to a “free trade” policy, meaning our workers work pretty much for “free” and big corporations are “free” to do anything they want. Additionally, without the revenue from tariffs, we have to tax our manufacturers more heavily, which makes them even less competitive internationally.
Since then average wages have stagnated and our pensions and health insurance have been disappearing, as have our savings. The country’s trade debt has been increasing alarmingly. And corporate control over all of us has become near-total. Corporations are able to get their way by intimidating employees with the fear of losing our jobs to outsourcing, and intimidate governments by threatening to move to lower wage countries.
So it is time to bring back protectionism. It worked.

BIKENET PRE-SCHOOL OPEN ON SUNDAYS– The teacher asked the class to use the word ‘fascinate’ in a sentence.
Molly put up her hand and said, “My family went to my granddad’s farm and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating.”
The teacher said, “That was good, but I wanted to use the word ‘fascinate’…not ‘fascinating’.”
Sally raised her hand. She said, “My family went to see Rock City and I was fascinated.”
The teacher said, “Well, that was good, Sally, but I wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate’.”
Little Johnny Humble raised his hand.
The teacher hesitated because she had been burned by Little Johnny before. She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word ‘fascinate’, so she called on him.
Johnny said, “My Aunt Gina has a sweater with ten buttons, but her tits are so big that she can only fasten eight.”
The teacher sat down and cried.

PRAY FOR SURF!–This is a photo from Chris T of Pipeline in Hawaii during the heavy surf season. As a kid, in Jr. High School we lived to surf for years. I still use the slogan, “Pray for Surf,” as a catchphrase for wishing for anything perfect, like a beautiful day for a ride or for every part to fall in place on a project bike. So when I’m pleading for a deadline to come together or for her lips to meet mine at just the right time, I’m praying for surf. Get it?

BIKERNET CARE PACKAGE SAVES THE DAY– Hey Bandit, I just got a little care package at my door!! A sorely needed surprise indeed! Got some bad news this morning that my godmother had passed away, and that left me down and out to say the least. She’s the reason I’m still here today, and why I have a somewhat productive career as well.
Your package was just the pick-me-up I needed!! Very cool indeed!

CRUISIN’ FOR BURGERS AT CUSTERS LAST STAND”– Now here’s an image that has got to bring a smile to the face of anyone who ever went Cruisin’. Once again Larry Grossman has captured the very essence of those exciting days when Rockin’ and Roddin’ were everything, and his “CRUISIN’ FOR BURGERS” really brings it home! One look at this amazingly detailed, vibrantly colored work of art and it’s obvious the creator was cruisin’ there as well.
Larry’s masterpieces capture the very essence of those bygone days that were the beginning of today’s popular hot rod culture. He creates authentic scenes of “old school” rods, kustoms, bikes and babes, and what’s really cool is that he can replace any of the cars or crowd with your car(s) and you and/or your gal! CRUISIN’ FOR BURGERS AT CUSTARD’S LAST STAND is available along with Grossman’s other amazing works at

J.J. SOLARI REVIEWS HIS BOOK REVIEWS– I read the review. Putting my book on the toilet and not in the toilet was a show of good taste but also a show of bad judgement. As I am sure the feedback will attest, assuming anyone buys the thing, which aint likely, but if I’m wrong I’ll let ya know.
But, on the plus side, bad as the book is, it still pulled the Bikernet up a notch. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

BOOZE AND BIKES–My philosophy is if I see a good fight I wanna be in it. No Shit. Some dudes can’t and don’t know how to drink. They need the booze to give them courage and will never change.
Twenty years from now the young dude who got the smack will be sitting in a bar and he’ll be full of scars and shit and people will think he’s a “Tough Guy” but those marks are a testament to how many fights he’s lost and nothing else. I swear, sometimes I think these assholes are born just so that we can practice our punching.
The Big Dog Pitbull’s gas tank looks very much like the one I shaped for my drop seat last year. See Pics. I always enjoy every single article I read on Bikernet.

ABATE OF FLORIDA TROUBLES– In reference to what I sent you on ABATE Of Florida In Trouble. By deleting the rest of what I wrote the article Appears That I am Asking People To Join ABATE. THAT IS NOT MY INTENT!!!
There are serious problems in the organization and people are leaving it because of them. Though I feel that Most ABATE Chapters Do A good job, In my opinion Florida is Not Representing The Best Interest Of The Riders Of This State.!!!! It is my intention to bring this to the attention of motorcycle riders and rights leaders.
At this time I am asking people to join the AMA as they are doing more for motorcyclist in Florida than ABATE.
