MORE ON THE MICHAEL LICHTER SEARCH– Please help locate the subject of this photo so Harley-Davidson can use an image of him in print. We are on deadline this weekend so please write or call. We do believe his name is Gunner Sergeant James Schmarje, a marine with RCT6 (Regimental combat team) and that he just got back from Falloujah in Iraq this month, through Camp Lejeune, near Jacksonville, NC. Harley will not use the photo without his permission.
My full contact info is below. If possible, you can forward this to anyone else that may know how to contact him. If the photos below do not come through in your email, you can see a smaller image of the Harley backpiece tattoo on the home page of my website at Thanks so much for any help you can offer, Michael Lichter (Easyriders photographer since 1979) –Michael Lichter Photography Four web sites to better serve you BIKERNET WORKS WITH IRON HORSE TRIKES AND MASTER ARTIST CHRIS KALLAS– Here’s some sketches. The one with the callouts labeled Mild Mods is something they might really consider. It incorporates 15 different (mostly small), modifications that when all combined really help the lines of the trike without changing its current frame structure. There’s much more to come. See the full report on Monday. BIKERNET BLONDE JOKE FOR SUNDAY– Did you hear about the blonde that… 1. Took her new scarf back to the store because it was too tight 2. Couldn’t learn to water ski because she couldn’t find a lake with a slope. 3. Can’t work in a pharmacy because the bottles won’t fit into the typewriter. 4. Got excited because she finished a jigsaw puzzle in 6 months and the box said “2 to 4 years” 5. Was trapped on an escalator for hours when the power went out. 6. Couldn’t call 911 because there was no 11 on any phone button. 7. When asked what the capital of California was; answered “C” 8. Burnt her nose bobbing for french fries. 9. Baked a turkey for 3 days because the instructions said 1 hour per pound and she weighed 125. 10. Can’t make Kool-Aid because 8 cups of water won’t fit into those little packets 11. Hates M&M’s because they are so hard to peel. 12. Got hurt while raking leaves; fell out of the tree. 13. Changes the baby’s diaper only once a month because the label said, “good up to 20 pounds” 14. After losing in a breaststroke swimming competition, complained that the other swimmers were using their arms. –from Chris T. PERFORMANCE MACHINE ON BRAKING PHILOSOPHY– I found this online. It’s from an interview with Sands. Here’s why: Differential Bore Pistons Further refinement in the P.M. caliper can be found in the form of differential bore pistons. This racing-inspired technology was developed in response to excessive pad wear at the entry point of the disc. The greatest heat concentration on a pad can be found at this point and is responsible for uneven pad wear and less-than-impressive braking. By incorporating a smaller piston at the disc entry, and a larger one at the exit, the pad-to-disc contact is significantly more efficient. This design not only controls uneven pad wear, but also keeps the entire pad surface at a constant friction level for more efficient contact on the rotor when the brakes are applied. The result is increased braking power without increased heat. (February 22, 2008) – Buell racing champions and contenders return to action as teams open the 2008 motorcycle roadracing season at Daytona International Speedway next week. Deeley H-D/Buell Canada/Ruthless Racing rider Dave Estok will defend his 2007 American Sportbike Racing Association (ASRA) Pro Thunderbike championship aboard a Buell Firebolt XB12R in the first round of the ASRA National road racing series on March 1, while five Buell teams are entered in the SunTrust MOTO-ST Daytona 300 endurance race scheduled for March 2. SunTrust MOTO-ST Series The new Buell 1125R will make its racing debut in the hands of two veteran teams entered in the Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport Twin (SST) class for the SunTrust MOTO-ST Daytona 300, the opening round of the seven-event 2008 SunTrust MOTO-ST season. Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing team will enter a Buell 1125R with riders Shawn Higbee and Dan Bilansky, while Deeley H-D/Buell Canada/Ruthless Racing will enter the race with riders Darren James, Steve Crevier, and Estok on another Buell 1125R. “We’ve had some great tests and are extremely pleased with the performance of the new Buell 1125R,” said Richie Morris, owner of the Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing team. “In the SST class it will be a dogfight at the front because it’s a big field with a lot of good riders and good teams. We are really excited about bringing Buell to the top class in MOTO-ST and we are ready to go all the way this season.” The SunTrust MOTO-ST series is for production based four-stroke twin-cylinder motorcycles ridden by teams of riders in longer-distance events which feature pit stops and fuel strategy. SST is the top-performance class in MOTO-ST, for bikes making at least 90 horsepower and no more than 120 horsepower, as measured in post-race testing. The Buell 1125R will de-tuned with intake restrictors to meet the 120-horspower limit for SST. Three Buell teams are entered in the BMW GrandSport Twins (GST) class for the SunTrust MOTO-ST Daytona 300. The Richie Morris Racing entry sponsored by Hal’s Harley-Davidson/Buell/Ocean Deck/Brotz Motorsports will feature riders Clint Brotz and Tripp Nobles on a Buell XB12R. The Richie Morris Racing squad won three MOTO-ST GST events in 2007 and finished second in season points, helping Buell clinch the 2007 GST Manufacturer Championship. The James Gang/Hoban Brothers Racing team, sponsored by Buell of Appleton and Darkhorse Crankworks, will open the 2008 season with riders Paul James and Jeff Johnson aboard a Buell XB12R. The James Gang/Hoban Brothers team will aim to improve on its third-place finish in 2007 GST points, with one class win and three additional podium appearances. The new RnR Repsol Racing team will enter GST at Daytona with riders Rick Beggs and Rachel Sasse on a Buell XB9R. GST motorcycles must produce at least 75 horsepower and no more than 90 horsepower in post-race testing. ASRA Pro Thunderbike Series Deeley H-D/Buell Canada/Ruthless Racing rider Dave Estok rode a Buell XB12R to win six of eight races and dominate the ASRA Pro Thunderbike National Championship series in 2007, winning his second Thunderbike title in three years. For 2008, Estok is back with the Deeley H-D/Buell Canada/Ruthless Racing team, which will also field former Canada Thunder champion Darren James. “I do not expect to win like that again this season,” said Estok. “This really is a very competitive class, and I think some of the other riders in Pro Thunderbike had some bad luck last year. But the Deeley Team puts me on great Buell equipment, and I think we’ll be racing up front and on the podium at every race.” Estok will be challenged by Hal’s H-D/Buell/Hal’s Speed Shop rider Dan Bilansky, the 2006 Pro Thunderbike champion who was second to Estok in 2007, racing for another title on a Buell XB12R in 2008. Harley-Davidson/Buell of Frederick will open the 2008 Pro Thunderbike season at Daytona with rider Bryan Bemisderfer, the 2004 class champion, aboard a Buell XB12R. Also contending will be the Sound Waves/Hal’s Speed Shop team with rider Joe Rozynski, who was third in Thunderbike points in 2007, and his brother, Sam Rozynski, who placed fifth in 2007, aboard Buell XB12R motorcycles. ROOT BEER BIKERNET PROJECT BIKE USES D&D MEGAPHONES– “Here is a shot of those stainless pipes that I worked on with Jet from Full Throttle custom cycles,” said Kent from Lucky Devil’s Metal Works in Houston. “He and his wife have been drag racing for years and come in from time to time for some help with welding.” Kent is building a tight Root Beer Bobber for the lovely Sin Wu and I just packed up a set of similar mild steel D&D megaphones and Hooker pipe chunks for shipment to Lucky Devil’s. See the first report on the home page, another build report coming next week.–Bandit THAT’S IT. IT’S CAPTAIN MORGAN AND LEMON TIME–Mentally I’ll start packing for Daytona Bike Week, while we publish a new tech on the Morris Mag system for Twin Cams. Paul Yaffe I’m sure will be the first to build a kick only, no battery Twin Cam Chopper with a Mag. I think I’d like to build a Twin Cam hot rod like that. We’ll see. I grew up building Magneto powered scooters. Speaking of kicking over motorcycles, Donnie Smith just had both knees replaced successfully. Here’s a shot of Donnie (right) Bob Clark and Dave Perewitz with hair. Shot was take just two years (decades) ago. Send your well wishes to Donnie and don’t forget his show in Minneapolis, 28th-29th of March. This coming week we’ll deliver all of the Kallas Iron Horse Trike concept drawings. Then we’ll cover what’s wrong with ABATE of Florida and the real war on motorcycle accidents and where the efforts need to be focused. Helmet laws place us in a more dangerous position on the road against distracted drivers. You’ll see. There’s a legislator who would rather force us to wear helmets, so his constituents can watch television and drive. The helmet could prevent you from seeing that bastard who is attempting to dial his cell phone and make a left turn simultaneously. We’ll cover it all tomorrow. In the meantime let’s party, chase women, polish chrome and pray for surf. What’s the weather like in Daytona? Ride Forever, –Bandit
