FIRST DOC DAILY BADLANDS REPORT

Sturgis fires up

Well there’s one guy who will not forget his 2013 trip to the Black Hills, especially as he surveys his Charcoal Glide. Shit happens. This year in Sturgis looks like a biggie with Lazelle crazy busy. Early reports from vendors are pretty encouraging and the crowd down at Black Hills Harley-Davidson was the biggest I’ve seen for some years.

The big event, of course, was the release of the new Indians. I like them a lot and predict they will do very well indeed. S&S held a media morning at the drag strip, talked up their new Super Stock T2 crankcase for 2007-up touring models and it boasts very impressive specs. Also impressive is their CNC porting service for Sportsters, boasting a one-week turnaround and a MSRP of just $950.00 and with the growing popularity of Sportsters, this should be a big hit. Journos who attended had some fun taking a S&S 124 cube Dyna down the strip.

The Michael Lichter exhibit this year was based around the Café Racer style of bike and, as usual, Michael pulled it off as only he can. Skeeter Todd built a bike with an eclectic mix of engine parts, as only Skeeter can. Big Bear Choppers Kevin Alsop had several of his new FXR style Titanium models on display, high performance V-Twins with a superb handling package. There’s more, much much more, but this is a postcard, not a comprehensive report so I’ll leave it there.

That's Kevin Alsop (left) with Doc Robinson with the new Big Bear FXR–FXRs Forever!–Bandit
