Hey,
I’m at a crossroads today, but I can’t tell you which. I’ll spill the beans on Thursday. I can tell you about some changes to the shop. A brother, who had the nickname Jesse James years ago, stopped using it, because of another shady guy who was using the same name. So he changed his name to James Bondo. He is a talented builder who turned to making and painting neon signs.
He made me a 5-Ball neon. I planned to stick it on the front of my building and got close, then had lunch with a local business owner, who complained about a fine he received for the sign on the front of his own building, then the annual tax charge for his sign. Bullshit.
I’m hanging the neon on the inside of my shop, and working on a winged wheel art piece with Performance Machine, for the front of the building. Let’s hit the news, so you can check out all the Daytona galleries from Jack’s crew of photographers in Daytona and the internet duties were handled by the never sleeping Richard Kranzler in Washington.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY PUTS IT ALL TOGETHER FOR THE SUNDAY BEFORE ST. PATTY’S DAY– synergy SIN-er-jee, noun:
1. the interaction of elements that when combined produce a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements, contributions, etc.; synergism.
2. Physiology, Medicine/Medical. the cooperative action of two or more muscles, nerves, or the like.
3. Biochemistry, Pharmacology. the cooperative action of two or more stimuli or drugs.
The stock market had been wavering up and down for some time due to the lingering confusion over the effects of the Trade Reform Act. But what kind of evil synergy was this?
The synergy of monasticism became a major civilizing force so that, some six centuries later, Cadfael’s choice of the Benedictine monastery was a natural one for a weary wandering soldier seeking stability and order in a disordered world.
Synergy has been around in English since the mid-1600s and comes from the Neo-Latin synergia, which in turn, came from the Greek meaning “working together.”

SUNDAY NATIONAL NEWS, POT POLL– New York, NY: Americans believe that consuming cannabis poses less harm to health than does the consumption of tobacco, alcohol, or sugar, according to the findings of a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Wednesday.
Respondents were asked which of the four substances they believed to be “most harmful to a person’s overall health.” Most respondents said tobacco (49 percent), followed by alcohol (24 percent) and sugar (15 percent).
Only eight percent of those surveyed said that they believed that marijuana was most harmful to health.
The poll possesses a margin of error of +/- 3.10 percent.
Commenting on the poll results, NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano said: “These results once again reaffirm that an overwhelming majority of the American public understands that any potential risks associated with the use or abuse of cannabis are relatively minor to those associated with many other legal and regulated substances. Criminalizing cannabis and those who consume it responsibly is a disproportionate public policy response to what is, at worst, a public health issue but not a criminal justice concern.”
Under federal law, marijuana is classified as a schedule I controlled substance, meaning that its alleged harms are equal to those of heroin.

BRAND New Bikernet Reader Comment!–Please Tell Me SOA Is A TV Show?
http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=11571
Hi guys,
The SOA craze or should I say mania has not caught on in India. This is mainly because the bloody Censor Board of India does not allow adult content on Television.
SOA airs on FX Channel in India and is bleeped out and cut into pieces as if it was Sharon Stone and Pamela Anderson getting it on and then slaughtering each other.
Don’t mind, I download the entire seasons thanks to PirateBay. We need piratebay because Hollywood movies and TV Shows and even cartoon shows such as Family Guy and others get censored.
Damn they even bleep out the genius of Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men.
Someone over there in USA or Canada please adopt me. I am potty trained and will clean my own dishes. Adopt me, or Marry me or just get me out of here damnit.

CDC Task Force Pushes Universal Mandatory Helmet Law–The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) reports that a task force that is funded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued its findings statement for motorcycle safety, with the singular solution being universal mandatory helmet laws.
The task force, known as the Community Preventative Services Task Force, is a 15 member, non-federal, independent group that utilizes CDC staff and resources to develop Findings and Rationale Statements. The statements make recommendations that run the gamut of topics from asthma control to work place safety. The recommendations have included motor vehicles in the past focusing on seat belts, child seats, and alcohol use. This is the first time the task force has recommended anything to do with motorcycling. Task force members are appointed by the Director of the CDC and serve five-year terms. All current members are doctors, with one exception.
The CDC asserts that fatalities have nearly doubled since 2000 while failing to take into account the increase in registered motorcycles. In fact, in 2000 there were 2,862 fatal crashes for 4.9 million registered motorcycles. That means in 2000 .058% of all registered motorcycles were involved in a fatal crash. In 2010 there were 4,502 fatalities for 8.4 million registered motorcycles, which puts just .053% of registered motorcycles, a slight decrease in the ratio of registered motorcycles to fatalities with 3.5 million more motorcycles on the road. These are just some of the facts about the CDC research that have been presented in all four MRF conferences going back to fall of 2012.
The Task Force report claims that they used data from 69 studies, but only lists seven in the reference section of the finding statement. The MRF is investigating this and is in talks with the Task Force staff about how they came to the conclusion that enacting universal mandatory helmet laws is the only way to save lives.
It is deeply troubling that some of our brightest researchers refuse to acknowledge rider education and awareness campaigns as effective means to saving lives,? said Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relation and Public Affairs for the MRF.
Also of note is why the CDC would only focus on head injury. J. Lee Annest, the Director of Statistics and Programing for the CDC, informed the motorcycle community that the CDC does not keep information on motorcycle fatality by body part and that in motorcycle fatalities there are usually multiple injuries, with the primary body part affected difficult to determine. Yet the only solution that the CDC has ever presented in its history is universal mandatory helmet law..
The MRF worked with the House of Representatives to send a letter to the CDC asking them to not focus on motorcycle safety, but rather leave that to the relevant transportation agencies. The CDC’s response was that they needed to be involved in all preventable injuries, because they have the newest research available.
Use the MRF’s latest Fact or Fiction piece, which was made public at this past year’s Bikers Inside the Beltway event in D.C. in May of 2013 to educate your legislators. The one page document has information about the CDC and the misconception related to the effectiveness of helmet laws.

WORKING ON THE WORLD’S FASTEST BSA– Build and Ride the World’s Fastest BSA A10
While that sounds easy, it isn’t. Just getting there is a challenge in itself, before you start trying to get the best from your bike at 4219ft and 120 Fahrenheit! Our personal goal is to achieve at least 130mph on a machine initially designed for 60mph.
We competed in 2012 when we took a Weslake 1000cc V-twin powered bike – we learned a lot, had a great time and got bitten by the Salt Bug.
So we are going back in 2014, with a completely new bike built on the lessons from the last trip. We are entered into a class where there is currently no record set, so as long as we make it down the Salt, we will be record holders in our class.
This is just to inform everyone that the CUSTOM CYCLE DESIGN, CCD, website has a new name; http://www.ccd-briz.com
BIKERNET STAFFER I’M LOOKING FOR AN EXPERT– I’m a three tour Vietnam veteran. I’ve been recognized as a disabled veteran, but need some help. Twice I was infected with cellulitis while aboard a ship off the coast of Vietnam. Twice I almost lost a foot. I have read that cellulitis can have lasting bacterial effects, and that bacteria can exacerbate arthritis. Unfortunately, according to the VA I have arthritis in my knees, hips, lower back and shoulders. My physical abilities have diminished severely over the last 20 years.
All I’m asking for is a letter (and or data) to the VA confirming that severe cellulitis conditions could enhance arthritic conditions over the long term.
Appreciate any time or consideration.

BIKERNET WEEKEND GUN NUT REPORT– NRA Files Friend of the Court Brief in Appeal of NSA Spying Case.
This week, NRA filed a brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The brief supports the American Civil Liberties Union’s request for reversal of a decision by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York that upheld the National Security Agency’s data collection program.
We previously reported on the lower court case in an article available here. That article contains a more detailed description of NRA’s arguments, but they generally make two major points. First, that the NSA’s mass data collection violates the First Amendment’s freedom of association protection because individuals will be chilled from joining certain groups – like NRA – that have been the target of hostility by others, including certain public officials, and identify their members’ private social, political, or religious beliefs to the government. The second line of argument focuses on how the data collection programs could undermine privacy protections in federal law that prohibit creating a registry of firearms or firearm owners.
Much of the government’s arguments have focused on the fact that the surveillance program only collects metadata and that the content of communications still remain private. However, a recent study by two graduate students at Stanford University shows how much private information can be gleaned about an individual from even a small amount of metadata. The study collected telephone metadata on volunteers over a period of just a few months. The authors hypothesized that they would not be able to identify any specific information about the participants because of the small amount of data collected, but as they put it: “We were wrong. We found that phone metadata is unambiguously sensitive, even in a small population and over a short time window. We were able to infer medical conditions, firearm ownership, and more, using solely phone metadata.”
On the specific issue of firearm ownership, the authors of the study determined that one of the volunteers likely was interested in firearms and specifically in AR-15 pattern rifles. This information was then confirmed to be true by the study participant. This type of information is particularly sensitive at a time when some government officials at both the state and federal levels are showing increasing hostility towards individual gun ownership and when interest in a particular type of firearm may bring an individual under close governmental scrutiny because of that firearm’s disfavored status.
NRA will continue to support this case and others that serve to protect the privacy interests of gun owners and will keep you informed of further developments on this issue.

SECURE CAPS Donates 5 Percent of Selected Oil Cap Sales to Charity– California-based Secure Cap combats the Harley-Davidson high vandal rate with top-quality locking oil caps. For 2014, 5 percent of pink oil cap sales will go to a charity of the customer’s choice.
Vandalism and oil contamination are problems that every motorcyclist faces. Now, there’s a proven, cost-effective solution for deterring vandals and keeping oil free from damaging contaminants. SecureCaps.com is an industry leader specializing in locking oil caps designed especially for Harley Davidson motorcycles. Throughout 2014, Secure Cap will donate 5 percent of all pink oil cap sales to a charity of the buyer’s choice. Riders are known for giving back to the community, and this is a great way for motorcyclists to protect their bikes while benefiting their favorite charitable organization.
Until now, unlocked oil fill covers have been one of the few unprotected areas vulnerable to vandalism. Oil contaminants can permanently damage the engine. This elegant solution ensures that Harley enthusiasts are protected wherever they ride. Parking at a music festival, on the street or at a local restaurant is now worry-free, even in the summer months when theft and vandalism are most common. Each Secure Cap has the same features as the original equipment manufacturer oil fill cap with the added protection of a durable stainless steel lock. Secure Cap locking systems are designed for all Harley Davidson Softail bikes manufactured after 2000, including Deuce, Fat Boy and Heritage models. Secure Caps are available in black, chrome and pink finishes. Charitable donations for 2014 apply to sales of pink caps only.
The locking system includes a premium dipstick, discreet swiveling cover and premium fluorocarbon O-rings. Fluorocarbons resist oil additives and will never get gummy or lose their sealing power. Locking oil caps prevent vandals from stealing the cover, draining the oil pan or introducing potentially damaging contaminants, such as sand, gravel, sugars and syrups. Because each cap has a hidden lock and discreet rotating cover, Secure Caps are an effective vandal deterrent.
Harley Davidson motorcycles are among the most popular bikes on the road. They’re also among the most stolen and most vandalized. The Harley Davidson high vandal rate is well-established, and oil contamination can happen to anyone. Each year, 240,000 new Harleys hit the asphalt. Surprisingly, locking oil caps are not standard. Due to their high value, most riders purchase collision and comprehensive insurance. While comprehensive coverage does protect against vandalism-related engine damage, insurance premiums are expensive, and deductibles are high.
Some contaminants mix with oil when the engine is hot, but after it cools down, the contaminants separate, clog the engine and have the potential to damage the transmission and other components. With continued use, blowouts and oil loss are common. In addition to peace of mind, locking oil caps help riders avoid out-of-pocket expenses and costly claims that increase insurance premiums. The cost of a Secure Cap locking system is far less than insurance deductibles and provides peace of mind wherever travels take the rider. Plus, customers can feel good about their purchase thanks to Secure Cap’s charitable contributions on all pink caps sold this year. Visit SecureCaps.com to learn more.

FIRST FREE COLORADO MONTH YIELDS $3.5 MILLION– Denver, CO: Retail sales of cannabis in the month of January yielded an estimated $3.5 million dollars in state tax revenues, according to financial data released online this week by the Colorado Department of Revenue.
Under Colorado law, commercial cannabis producers must pay a 15 percent excise tax, while retail customers must pay an additional ten percent sales tax (on top of the state’s existing 2.9 percent sales tax) on any cannabis purchased at a licensed facility. Voters approved the imposition of cannabis-specific taxes (Proposition AA) this past November.
For the month, customers spent an estimated $14 million on the purchase of marijuana and cannabis-infused goods at state-licensed facilities. This figure is anticipated to grow larger as more and more facilities become operational.
State law authorized the retail sale of cannabis beginning on January 1st to those age 21 or older. At that time, only 24 retailers were operational. By month’s end, nearly 60 facilities were up and running. Presently, over 150 licensed facilities are operational.
Similarly licensed retail operations are anticipated to be operational in Washington by this summer.

QUICK AND DIRTY—I met with Chica on Friday. He’s moving into the desert and eliminating his shop expenses. This is the second shop guy in the last couple of months I’ve run across, who is looking to downsize.
Of course, no one wants to say it’s a business move, but think about it. If you can buy a home with a large enough shop on a couple of acres and eliminate the landlord, the business expenses, the commute, the extra utilities, taxes, fees, you name it, why not?
Besides, for some builders a move like this puts them closer to home, closer to the loved ones, and perhaps in more secure surroundings. Nothing like having the shop at home where the security team is always on hand.
But it also says something about our government and their constantly growing regulations. I think increased regs have an impact of anyone who desires to build something new and innovative. It’s up to us to keep the light of freedom burning in shops all over the world. Don’t forget to join your local motorcycle rights association.
Hang on for all the new Bikernet action coming next week.
