We are working on techs with JIMS, S&S, Rivera-Primo, and Samson Exhaust. I better hit the news, pack my shit and hit the road.

National Packard Museum, members of Ohio antique motorcycle community receive Antique Motorcycle Foundation’s highest award– The Antique Motorcycle Foundation has conferred on the National Packard Museum and a number of antique motorcycle enthusiasts and organizations in Ohio its highest award, the AMF Award for Excellence.
Thirteen years ago, the National Packard Museum was considering closing its doors for reduced winter hours due to a lack of visitation. Then arrived local antique motorcycle enthusiasts Bruce Williams and Daryl Timko with the idea of an annual motorcycle exhibit. Once announced, the project received enthusiastic support from other local motorcyclists as well as members of the Lake Erie Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America.
Not only has the popularity of this exhibit helped keep the museum open, but money and attendance it has generated has allowed the museum to expand by more than doubling its space.
Wanda Winger, Antique Motorcycle Foundation Treasurer, who presented the award, said, “The Board of the Foundation feels that one of the most effective ways to reach the American public with the great story of antique motorcycle history, restoration, and preservation is through exhibits in major museums. We believe there is no better proof of this than the popularity of the Packard Museum’s annual exhibit. It stands as a model of success for antique motorcycle enthusiasts and clubs everywhere.”
Fred Davis, President of the Lake Erie Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America, received the award on behalf of all of the enthusiasts who have made the project a success. The crystal award will be placed on display at the National Packard Museum.
Winger added, “I would note that this is the second major award the Packard motorcycle exhibit and its creators have received this year. Last March, they were recognized with the Award of Excellence by the National Association of Automobile Museums.”
The Antique Motorcycle Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation. Its mission is to support the collection and preservation of antique motorcycles and motorcycle history, and to tell the story of antique motorcycling to the public at large.

NEW YORK TIMES— Burden More Gun Buyers with “Woefully Flawed” FBI Checks
In a scathing editorial published August 18, titled, A Flawed Background-Check System, the New York Times takes to task the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the detrimental effect the agency’s inability to conduct accurate checks has had on job seekers.
The Times notes that “F.B.I. background checks are widely viewed as the gold standards but are in fact woefully flawed, often based on fallible and incomplete data.” Of particular concern to the editorial board are inaccurate or incomplete records of those who were arrested, but not convicted, or those who had their cases dismissed or expunged. The Times cites “examples of workers who were either turned away from jobs or fired based on faulty F.B.I. background information,” and contends that the system has caused some to be “unfairly locked out of the job market.”
The Times is right to be critical of the FBI’s –apparent inability to conduct accurate or complete background checks, and to defend the civil liberties of those damaged by these inadequacies. However, the Times editorial board had no such qualms about the efficacy of the FBI’s system earlier this year when it lent its full-throated support to legislation that would have expanded background checks for firearm purchasers, further burdening the FBI’s operations.
On April 17, the Times excoriated the Senate for not passing the Manchin-Toomey-Schumer background check expansion amendment in an editorial titled “The Senate Fails Americans.” A week earlier, the Times ran an editorial that complained that the legislation up for debate didn’t go far enough, noting, “Ideally, the Senate would approve a bill to require background checks for all gun sales.” And on March 23, the Times editorial page touted legislation that would “require almost all gun buyers to undergo a background check,” calling it a “vital step.” The Times made no mention of the innocent people such checks would wrongfully snare.
Many gun purchasers are acutely aware of the problems posed by the FBI’s flawed background checks. In a 2011 report on the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System, the agency admitted, “Some records used to determine if an individual is eligible to possess or receive a firearm are not complete or up-to-date. As a result, eligible firearm transferees may be subject to lengthy delays or receive erroneous denials even after the completion of a successful appeal.” A 2012 NICS operations report showed that 8.5 percent of all FBI NICS checks were delayed for additional review, burdening roughly 1.6 million gun purchasers, only a fraction of whom were later found ineligible. The report also noted that in 2012, over 4,000 wrongful denials were overturned.
Incorrect FBI checks are so cumbersome to some gun buyers that it has led to the creation of the Voluntary Appeal File. Under this program, eligible gun buyers who repeatedly find themselves the subject of NICS delays based on non-disqualifying records can place their names on file, in order to expedite future checks. According to the 2012 report, there are nearly 25,000 individuals so burdened.
The recent editorial’s emphasis on protecting the rights of those simply arrested for, but not convicted of, crimes might also lead one to believe that the Times is a staunch defender of due process. However, in June, a Times editorial argued that those placed on the “terror watch-list” by the same government agency the Times accuses of being unable to conduct a proper background check should be summarily barred from owning guns.
With the Times recognizing the FBI’s background-check system as “woefully flawed,” it is ironic that the paper would advocate for millions more people to be burdened by it. This latest episode illustrates that the Times is singling out which civil liberties it deems legitimate, and that despite a body of historical evidence and the opinion of the Supreme Court in Heller and McDonald, the individual right to armed self-defense protected by the Second Amendment isn’t one of them.

New book by the Editor of Bikernet Trikes, Gary Mraz. Scary shit.
The name change would apply only to Wisconsin’s portion of the 1,300-mile highway that runs from Lake Superior to the Gulf of Mexico.
The ceremonial naming of a U.S. highway within a state requires the approval of the legislature and the governor.
There will be a news conference Friday at 10 a.m. at Hal’s Harley-Davidson, in New Berlin, to discuss the efforts.
“This is long overdue,” said Tony Sanfelipo, founder of ABATE Wisconsin, a motorcyclist rights organization.
“For 110 years Harley-Davidson has meant the ‘open road’ to millions of riders, and what better way to salute their contribution to Wisconsin than to name a road in their honor.”

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT THURSDAY VOCABULARY LESSON--pittance PIT-ns, noun:
He showed us a perfectly authentic mission-card which certified that his family had received a pittance from some charitable organisation situated in the Whitechapel neighborhood, and that, moreover, they were in the habit of receiving this pittance; and that, finally, their claim to such pittance was amply justified by the poverty of their circumstances.
Each daughter can claim an income of 250 pounds, in case of marriage. It is evident, therefore, that if both girls had married, this beauty would have had a mere pittance, while even one of them would cripple him to a very serious extent.
Pittance shares its root with the word pity. It entered English in the 13th century from the Latin pietatem meaning “piety,” “loyalty” and “duty.”

BUB’S BONNEVILLE SHOTS BY SCOOTER GRUBB—These just in from the salt.
UNCLE MONKEY MEETS THE SKUNK DOG–Just the highlights of a busy week.
My lap dog decided during his 4am bathroom run to break out of the yard and capture the skunk that has been roaming around.
An adult skunk has 15cc of scent.
An American Eskimo dog ‘s fur easily absorbs 15cc of skunk juice.
1-quart hydrogen peroxide, ¼ cup baking soda and 1 to 2 teaspoons of liquid soap remove skunk odour from dogs but does not remove it from your yard.
I made a new friend whose family is as messed up as mine. He credits me with inspiring him to get his bike license. He is shopping for his first bike right now.
I think I have a plan for the RoadKing and Mrs. Monkey says it has to be done for the 75th Sturgis.
I love my wife.
I’m not above whoring myself out for free parts from venders for the RoadKing. Email offers to roadking@sohego.com.
Sadly two motorcycle deaths in two weeks within 100 miles. Slow down and don’t drink & ride.
Though the RoadKing is a local bike, other then the initial sale of it at the local dealer and a small insurance claim all the other work done to it has been done at dealers 3-6 hours farther out of the way. He didn’t buy his replacement from the local guys. Maybe it is time the local guys re-evaluate the way they do business.
My son decided that working at a job he can be proud of is better then sitting on the couch play Call of Duty for the summer.
Take a moment to look the person next to you in the eye and smile.

TWO MILLION BIKERS PLAN THEIR OWN 9/11 March to Washington D.C.— By now you’ve probably heard about the “Million Muslim March” coming to Washington D.C. on 9/11. Last week Chris Phillips, the organizer of the march, appeared on Hannity and refused to condemn hateful groups like the Muslim Brotherhood while arguing the U.S. government has been hateful toward Muslim-Americans since 9/11/2001.
Now in response to the march, bikers are also planning to show up in Washington D.C. on 9/11….with two million people.
Thousands of America’s patriotic bikers are organizing an enormous counter protest to the planned Million Muslim March on DC this Sept. 11.
The Facebook Page, “2 Million Bikers to DC,” has over 18 thousand “likes,” as of Thursday morning and individual state chapters of riders have launched pages on Facebook, as well.
The bikers are riding “To remember those who were killed on 911 and honor our armed forces who fought those who precipitated this attack,” the Facebook page said.

HANG ON—I will be back in front of my melting computer on Sunday with a special Sunday Post offer, and a couple of comments from the 110th Anniversary.
I’ve decided to make a change and take my weekends back, but we haven’t nailed down the format just yet. Sin Wu wanted to control every second of my life so she convinced me to sit in front of my computer every Sunday and produce a special topless Sunday edition. She liked to look at the girls as much as I did, but she didn’t want me to have any contact, so sequestered in front of the computer worked for her.
Well, she’s gone now, and it’s time to take my weekends back. The highly educated Bikernet Editorial Board is working on a carefully worded Cantina Survey for this Sunday. This is going to be interesting, and I’ll let you know what happens.
In the meantime Ride Forever, Ride for Peace, and Ride for America.
