Holiday Kick-off Thursday News

Hey,

Another incredible day in paradise. The 5-Ball Factory Racer should be up and running fine this weekend. We will kick the mudflap FXR into action tomorrow at the SpitFire facility. And perhaps we will have the opportunity to see one of the most outstanding motorcycle collections in the Los Angeles region on Saturday.

Yesterday in rolled a set of Easy adjustable S&S pushrods, so I was able to finish this operation. These puppies are mighty easy to install since they collapse, so you don’t need to remove the rockers.

I also received a roller for the Peashooter from Monster Craftsman, and we need to figure out if we can run this and how to mount it to keep the chain off the frame.

Let’s hit the news, then I’ll jump back into the shop and give you a rundown on content coming to Bikernet. We are living through some damn strident times, but it looks like some folks are stepping up to deal with the budget, and home foreclosures. That’s amazing and I applaud them. Hell this news column contains two new motorcycle models, maybe three. The spirit lives on… Let’s hit the news:

BIKERNET TECH QUESTION OF THE WEEK– I was looking for a way on your site to lower my bike. I’m 5′ tall and besides turning it into a rigid I dont know what else to do. please let me know if you have any suggestions.

— Michelle
taylor32368@yahoo.com

Hey Michelle,

Tell me more about your bike, like the year and model. Generally you could go to Progressive suspension and get a kit for the front end and a set of lower shocks. But you’re short and may need to look and a new set of pipes to get them off the ground, or mid controls, to bring them up.
If you can send me a shot of your bike.–Wrench

Hey Wrench,

Here are the pics of my Wide Glide. as you can see, there is a homemade lowering bracket that can be removed. So, if you have any ideas please let me know. I really hate to turn it into a rigid, but I will if I have to.

–Michelle

Michelle,

We build an 11″ shock for that machine (stock is 12.5″) as well as a fork lowering kit (2″ drop). Ride quality would be improved and it should put you where you need to be.

Shocks are MSRP $299 and part # is 412-4037C

Lowered Fork Spring Kit is MSRP $129 and part # is 10-2003

BIKERNET SPONSORS GUTS AND GLORY CROSS-COUNTRY 2011 RUN– 48 States. 11 Days. 9,000 (+) Miles. 1 Grand Prize–

WHO: The finest motorcycle riders in the world attempting a 9,000 (+) mile timed journey crossing America’s Lower 48 states in just 11 days. A $100,000 Cash Prize, and a hand built Dave Perewitz custom motorcycle goes to the winner who gets closest to the legal travel time across 11 checkpoints covering this great nation.

WHAT: Each “leg” between checkpoints will have a pre-determined time to safely run a pre-determined course. A rider who exceeds, or comes in under, the pre-determined time for each leg will be docked one point per minute, either over or under the pre-determined time allocated for each leg. The rider with the most points at the finish claims the Glory of the Grand Prize… if they have the Guts to finish the Rally. Every bike will be tagged with a GPS unit, and a Laser Timing chip to maintain both proper course adherence and timing throughout each leg of the Rally. A dedicated website through BikeWeek.com will allow the world to follow the race, updated daily, during the entire event.

At each checkpoint, every rider is required to take a mandatory 7 hour down time. Each checkpoint will present a choice of accommodation to each rider of “Camp Guts”; sleeping out doors beside his/her motorcycle, or “Camp Glory”; hotel accommodations, and will be chosen with maintenance, repair and medical facilities in mind. Extra points will be given for a “Camp Guts” decision.

WHERE: START : Long Beach, California…..FINISH : Bar Harbor, Maine
The pre-determined route is a mixture of secondary roads and freeways across the United States.

WHEN: May 17 through 28 2011 (Registration: Sunday, May 15th)

WHY: Our RIDE A MILE charity program enables both corporations and individuals to sponsor a “mile ridden”. With 1000 riders logging 9,000 (+) miles, a total of over 9,000,000 miles will be traveled during the Rally. It is our goal to raise $1 per collective mile to be shared between the SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN, and ABLE FORCES, PROJECT HEALING WATERS and NOT ALONE, three amazing US Military Veterans charities.

THE SHOW: A two hour reality documentary, opening and closing with the start (Long Beach, California) and finish (Bar Harbor, Maine) festivities. Guts & Glory TV will chronicle the joys, struggles, challenges and most importantly, the personal stories of many of the participants. Filmed in High Definition using cameras mounted on motorcycles, chase vehicles, helicopters and even an ultra-light aircraft, viewers will not only feel as though they are a part of the rally, they will also see the amazing scenery and vistas of this great country as seen through the eyes of each rider. Fast moving and engaging, the programs foundation is the overwhelmingly compelling personal stories of victory and defeat, joy and hardship, camaraderie and competition. Produced by Emmy Award winning Sunrise Entertainment, Guts & Glory will be available for broadcast licensing July 2011.

UPDATE DIRECTLY FROM LORENZO LAMAS– Lorenzo and I have launched two new performance production bikes with former US Marine, former club member, father, offspring of multiple Rodeo Hall Of Famers, US Airways captain and our friend, Ralph Randolph.

Our signature Lorenzo Cycles Patriot appeals to an untapped middle market between Brass Balls’ program and Eddie Trotta’s $70k custom works of art. With its no nonsense stance and setup, The Patriot’s sensibility is a prelude to a major effort we’re hosting in Nashville this June where Lorenzo will lead 1000 riders from Ft. Campbell to Nashville in honor of the 101st Airborne and our men and women around the world standing in harm’s way to protect our freedoms. On a sidenote, I actually met Lorenzo when he was part of my cast on a show I produced in Nashville. We know that community well. 🙂

Our 2nd new production bike, the Reno Rocket board tracker, is designed to make a statement and is also sensibly priced at half the price of the Lorenzo Cycles Icon and the Lorenzo Cycles Badlander.

New product shots will be taken this week for the new Lorenzo Cycles signature parts catalogue. Only the coolest performance and styling upgrades (as featured assembled as one of our new bikes) at a price more riders can afford. The exhaust on that FXR is bad-ass. We’re also dropping the bars on that bike to make it perform.

We’ll be launching a new collection of Oakley sunglasses (including for women) later this week.

SPITFIRE GIRDER COMING TO THE BIKERNET MUDFLAP GIRL BIKE–I’m building this bike for my son, who is a Tattoo Artist on Melrose in Los Angeles. He has a Dyna, but needs some Hollywood flash, and together we are going to build a bad-ass frisco’d FXR. Spitfire is building the custom, one-off frame and we are going to use one of their first girders.

You’ll see the entire build on Bikernet, the tattoo mudflap art Franks creates, and maybe we’ll find a real mudflap girl to pose with this chop.

AGENT’S DUI ARREST SPARKS CREDIBILITY ISSUES– The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office was forced to drop felony drug charges when the arresting agent — on loan from Cocoa Beach police — was booked for suspicion of driving under the influence and subsequently mishandling evidence.

James Wheeler is due in court this morning for a docket sounding related to the April 19 incident, in which Titusville police arrested the 38-year-old after he allegedly was driving on the wrong side of the road and crashed into a trash can. Wheeler faces three misdemeanors: DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.

According to the toxicology report conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Wheeler was under the influence of powerful drugs including the painkiller oxycodone, ingredients found in the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, and a muscle relaxer.

Wheeler also had 16 pills in his car for which he could not produce a prescription. He told arresting officers the pills in his car were evidence that needed to be dropped off at South Precinct.

Wheeler’s actions caused the sheriff’s office to ask prosecutors not to go forward in cases against two Cocoa residents, arrested hours before Titusville police were alerted to Wheeler’s erratic driving by a motorist. That driver used his cell phone to tell police where Wheeler was.
“It’s a credibility issue,” said sheriff’s Lt. Vic DeSantis, supervisor of the special investigations unit, which includes narcotics and vice. “We have certain protocol about evidence and evidence handling and there is a certain perception there. There was a problem with how the evidence was handled.”

The charges against the two people Wheeler arrested that night were dropped in June.
“Although we believe the cases are strong, the sheriff’s office and the Cocoa Beach Police Department do not want to bring into question any issues with what occurred with Agent Wheeler later in the evening,” wrote sheriff’s Sgt. Alex Herrera in an e-mail to Assistant State Attorney Tracy Newman.

The dropped charges on suspects Wheeler arrested could be followed by more. Although the public defender’s office does not have immediate plans to ask the court to dismiss cases in which Wheeler is listed as a witness, his open cases could be problematic for the state.

Cases in which he may be a witness could present credibility and other problems for the prosecution when using him as a witness,” Public Defender James Russo said in an e-mail. “So trial testimony could be troublesome for them. And again, in that regard, negotiated pleas may be more liberal from the state’s position because of these same trial problems in Wheeler cases.”

The state attorney’s office said Monday that it would look at open cases in which Wheeler was the arresting officer on an individual basis.

According to the arrest report, Wheeler told police he was taking medication to treat blood pressure and cholesterol but nothing else. He failed a sobriety test and was arrested and twice had to be held up or he would have fallen, according to Titusville Police Officer Roger Bond.

“When I spoke with James, I observed he had slurred speech and glassy eyes,” Titusville Police Officer Mark Sypien said in his report.

This seems to be a major problem with more and more cops breaking the laws they are suppose to uphold and are arresting others for.
Prosecutors do not do their job of prosecuting because they do not want to admit the cops are guilty of what they are accusing others of.
This is selective law enforcement!!!!

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY PHILOSOPHY CLASS RESEARCH–For most of these Classical philosophers, happiness is never simply a function of good feeling—of what puts a smile on our face—but rather of living good lives, lives that will almost certainly include a good deal of pain. The most dramatic illustration of this is the Roman statesman and philosopher Cicero’s claim that the happy man will be happy even on the torture wrack.

That sounds ludicrous to us today—and perhaps it is—but it very nicely captures the way the ancients thought of happiness, not as an emotional state but as an outcome of moral comportment. “Happiness is a life lived according to virtue,” Aristotle famously says. It is measured in lifetimes, not moments. And it has far more to do with how we order ourselves and our lives as a whole than anything that might happen individually to any one of us.

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing bad about feeling good. But I would suggest that something of value may have been lost or forgotten in our transition to modern ideas of happiness. We can’t feel good all the time; nor, I think, should we want to. Nor should we assume that happiness can be had (maybe a better word?) without a certain degree of effort, and possibly even sacrifice and pain. These are things that the older traditions knew—in the West and the East alike—and that we have forgotten.

CRAZY HORSE ENGINES MARRIED TO AMERICAN MOTOWORKS, ALL AMERICAN ALL THE TIME– As you may know, I own the trademark for Crazy Horse. However, this name sparks strong emotions. I am part Lakota. I am in the process of working with the Crazy Horse family members to set up a charity that benefits the descendants of Crazy Horse. The fund would not go around filing law suits against those that use this name; since this is a waste of money that neither Rose Bud nor Pine Ridge has to spend anyway. I presented a concept where a fund is created and then friendly letters are mailed to those using the name with requests to donate to the fund.

I drafted this a few months ago and was going to have a meeting on Pine Ridge but then I was accepted in the Foster School of Business to get my masters degree and this took all my time.

So, the answer is, yes I am keeping Crazy Horse. However, I am also launching the new motorcycle under the name “American Moto Works”. Rob Keller will ride the latest proto type bike in the Guts and Glory 2011 Cross Country Run, and I have three more bikes, including a trike that will also enter. I am seeking riders that can give us maximum exposure. I have also hired Dave Perewitz to build a long distance bike using our engine as additional marketing.

The new bike is designed to be all American made. It is built off the original Gilroy Indian design, but I have updated the rear suspension by taking the best of BMW’s multi-link and adding it to the frame. This would be the most advanced American Cruiser and the heaviest. I wanted something more advanced than Harley or Indian. DeVol Engineering helped me with the design. It works great. The ride is unreal. Total travel is more than 7 inches.

THE 100 MPH GOAT– Two Tennessee rednecks are out hunting, and as they are walking along they come upon a huge hole in the ground. They approach it and are amazed by the size of it.
The first hunter says, “Wow, that’s some hole; I can’t even see the bottom. I wonder how deep it is.”
The second hunter says,” I don’t know, let’s throw something down and listen and see how long it takes to hit bottom.”
The first hunter says, “There’s this old automobile transmission here, give me a hand and we’ll throw it in and see”.
So they pick it up and carry it over, and count one, and two and three, and throw it in the hole. They are standing there listening and looking over the edge and they hear a rustling in the brush behind them. As they turn around they see a goat come crashing through the brush, run up to the hole and with no hesitation, jump in head first.
While they are standing there looking at each other, looking in the hole and trying to figure out what that was all about, an old farmer walks up.
“Say there,” says the farmer, “you fellers didn’t happen to see my goat around here anywhere, did you?”
The first hunter says, ” Funny you should ask, but we were just standing here a minute ago and a goat came running out of the bushes doin’ about a hunert miles an hour and jumped headfirst into this hole here!”
The old farmer said, “That’s impossible. I had him chained to a transmission!”

BIKERNET MUSIC REVIEW FROM MIDWEST BAND–I Have a hot tip on a new CD release from an upcoming Midwest band.
Hailing from Rockford, Illinois The Pimps present Fuck This Shit We’re Out Of Here.Yeah I stole the disc from my stepson but I intend to buy a copy when I see them live this weekend. The tunes are stuck in my head like glue, I don’t even care what the titles are, the lyrics are outrageous.

“There’s gonna be girls at the party, get your head outta yer ass.”

They are a punk rock band with a solid rock baseline that can break into a country swing from time to time. They can delve into techno noise and then turn around into a rollicking country beat. ” Gods not tryin’ to be an asshole, Some things just come naturally.”

Yikes, I’m glad it’s not lightning season.Check ’em out.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER DEFINITION: premature ejaculation–A man was having problems with premature ejaculation so he decided to go to the doctor. He asked the doctor what he could do to cure his problem. In response, the doctor said, “When you feel like you are getting ready to ejaculate, try startling yourself.”

That same day the man went to the store and bought himself a starter pistol. All excited to try this suggestion, he ran home to his wife. At home, he found his wife was in bed, naked and waiting. As the two began, they found themselves in the celebrated 69 position. The man, moments later, felt the sudden urge to ejaculate and fired the starter pistol.

The next day, the man went back to the doctor. The doctor asked, “How did it go?” The man answered, “Not that well. When I fired the pistol, my wife shit on my face, bit 3 inches off my dick, and my neighbor came out of the closet with his hands in the air.”

UNCLE MONKEY TALKS SONS OF ANARCHY THIRD SEASON ON FX– I anxiously am waiting the third season of FX’s Sons of Anarchy on Canadian television. For those of you who may have been living under a rock the show follows an outlaw motorcycle club called the Sons Of Anarchy or SOA. Each episode is full of non-stop action as the fictional club deals guns and porn as they try to keep their foothold in the criminal underworld of California where the series is based.

For the most part people take the show for what it really is, an over dramatic soap opera of larger then life characters and events. Critics have pointed that motorcycle clubs don’t act like the SOA. The truth is if the show were to really show a snap shot of a 1% biker few would tune in week after week to watch.

The greater truth is that if television and movies showed what it was like to be a biker, CIA/FBI agent, police officer, lawyer or anyone else few would watch. Life is rarely a whirlwind of non-stop action. Many police officers can work an entire career and never draw their firearm. CIA/FBI agents spend months, sometimes years sitting in a small dank room listening to wiretaps, years behind a desk filling out mountains of paper work.

The life of the typical biker would be a show of a guy spending hours with his bike on a lift trying to figure out electric gremlins, maybe several more hours waiting on hold to talk to someone in tech support about an ignition. On good days it is countless hours – countless miles of rolling countryside, wrapped up in the solitude that only riding could afford.

The truth is that there are very few glamorous, very few exciting lifestyles or careers that would keep us entertained. Being a glamorous movie star can means months, sometimes even years waiting for the phone to ring. Movie sets involve endless hours in makeup chairs, hurrying and waiting for lights, cameras, and stunt coordinators. Even being an exciting rock star falls short because after the lights, after the groupies have gone home, you are left with countless hours on cramp tour buses, waiting for the stage to set up, waiting for the opening act/headliner to get their stuff organized.

In the end, gun toting 1% bikers, secret double agents with licenses to kill, and hard nose defence attorneys lead boring lives like the rest of us. Luckily they can turn to Hollywood and shows like Sons Of Anarchy to entertain themselves.

Wow, Uncle Monkey doesn’t live near the Bikernet Headquarters. This place makes SOA characters look like punk-ass librarians. Look out…—–Snake

BIKERNET ORGANIC FARMERS MARKET NOW OPEN–  A beautiful woman loved growing tomatoes, but couldn’t seem to get her tomatoes to turn red. One day, while taking a stroll, she came upon a gentleman neighbour who had the most beautiful garden full of huge red tomatoes.

The woman asked the gentleman, “What do you do to get your tomatoes so red?”

The gentleman responded, “Well, twice a day I stand in front of my tomato garden naked in my trench coat and flash them. My tomatoes turn red from blushing so much.”

Well, the woman was so impressed; she decided to try doing the same thing to her tomato garden to see if it would work. So twice a day for two weeks she flashed her garden hoping for the best.

One day the gentleman was passing by and asked the woman, “By the way, how did you make out? Did your tomatoes turn red?”

No”, she replied, “but my cucumbers are enormous.”

CCI is receiving product into their US distribution centers as this news is released. In addition, Custom Chrome Europe plans to stock the James Gaskets line by March of 2011. This latest addition to the Custom Chrome International catalog will further strengthen CCI’s product portfolio to only include “The World’s Finest Product’s For Harley-Davidsons” and will give dealers better access to James Gaskets proven seals, gaskets and maintenance parts for V-Twins.

“James Gaskets has a long history of being one of the best in the industry at providing repair, replacement and maintenance parts for V-Twin engines. Nothing is worse on a bike than having it leaking fluid and making a mess, not to mention the potential expense that can be caused in engine damage. With James Gaskets, their history of fantastic products and innovation speaks for itself.” states CCI President and CEO, Holger Mohr.

“James Gasket’s decision to work with Custom Chrome International as a worldwide distributor was made based on the commitment they offer their vendors, the fact that CCI is respected within the industry; having been named “Industry Leader of the Year” for 2010, and most importantly – that there is a demand for James Gaskets that CCI, with their large dealer network, can help us fill. We anticipate growth for both of our companies through this alliance and plan to work with CCI on promoting James Gaskets as a premier product line. In turn, we offer our support by being available to their customers as a participating vendor at the CCI/CCE Dealer Shows in 2011!”

The new distribution agreement takes place effective immediately. KRYLON JOHN ON WRITING TECHNIQUES–  As a rule I like to listen to TV, and pick out expressions, or words I’ve never heard before and then toss them into the hook of whatever I’m writing. It’s how I taught myself to write magazine stories that offend some PhD’s sensibilities, and drive them into long diatribes about how I don’t know how to write — It pays my bills, so fuck ‘em.

Today I’ve got too many magazine deadlines to meet there isn’t any time to watch TV, so this report is going to be short, and I’m not really sure how sweet. Last night “Poor Fucking” Jim, and I took a little 175-mile round trip out to Clean” Dean’s and picked-up a sculpture I did about 15 years ago for a friend of mine that designed Sammy Hagar’s Red Rocker logo for Sammy’s new clothing line — Sammy still uses it. www.redrocker.com.

I gave the thing to Dean in the early ’90s, and it served as a masthead for the stage at his annual birthday parties. Because Sammy is a known Pontiac freak, I based the sculpture on a ’69 Pontiac Bonneville front end. I don’t know what a real art critic would say about the thing, but I know it’s worth its weight in scrap.

Next, on our agenda was to pick up an advance copy of the February 2011 issue of Biker for the kid who owns the cover bike. Gabe is one of them young fellers that likes to build bikes like us old farts used to, except with a few touches of his own. Anyways, here’s the big rush to grab a new issue. Gabe left early this morning for Japan to attend the Mooneyes show. The bike is a tribute Gabe built to the Heathens, and the blue and white cover blurbs carry the theme out.

Another thing that’s kind of cool is the book Asphalt Gods that Gabe just published on the Heathens. For more information about it please go to www.AsphaltGods.net.
That’s it for this week, and who knows about the next?

IN SEARCH OF ABS SYSTEM FOR SOFTAILS– In my search for an ABS system for my Softail, I came across a device that, allegedly, prevents brake lock-up. The manufacturer/inventor sent me a pair of the items for my evaluation. I plan to install the devices tomorrow. The web site: www.tcbbrakesystem.com can explain the concept far better than I could in several hundred well-chosen.

HARLEY ASKED FOR BAIL-OUT BUCKS- WASHINGTON, Dec 1 (Reuters) – It wasn’t just Wall Street and the financial services sector that leaned on the U.S. Federal Reserve during the financial crisis.

Harley-Davidson Inc, Verizon Communications, McDonald’s Corp and the Republic of Korea also sought help from the Fed, according to data released by the central bank on Wednesday.

From October 2008 through mid 2009, Harley Davidson tapped the Fed’s Commercial Paper Funding Facility 32 times while South Korea did 41 times.

Lehman Brothers’ bankruptcy in September of 2008 froze the commercial paper market, a crucial source for many companies in funding their day-to-day operations.

The Fed set up the facility in an effort to backstop U.S. issuers of commercial paper and help create more credit for businesses and households.

More traditional lenders such as Bank of America, Citigroup Inc, Barclays and BNP Paribas were some of the heaviest users of the facility, according to the data. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs was one of the smallest.

The Fed shut down the facility in February 2010.

The Strider£ PREbike is a revolutionary new learning vehicle for 1-5 year old children. The Strider PREbike is engineered in the United States and is the bike of choice for young riders. With its welded steel frame and EVA polymer, puncture-proof tires, a Strider£ is capable of handling off-road adventures on grass, dirt, gravel, and even mud puddles! Now junior can hang with the big riders on or off road.

“This is an ideal way to get a little enthusiast riding, to own a very unique Strider and to help out some little kids in Mexico who’ve had a really tough start in life,” said Ryan McFarland — inventor of the Strider PREbike£ “It’s a perfect way to celebrate the holidays… bid generously because it’s for a great cause.”

Spark your child’s love for riding on two wheels by bidding on either the red or the yellow bike auction:

GREAT GIFTS DURING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON? Make sure they are covered?  Hey, nothing is more disappointing than getting a beautiful gift, losing it and finding out it was not covered by your insurance. Gifts have sentimental value for sure but they can also carry a big price tag. Determining what type of insurance you need depends on the gift itself, its value and your coverage options. Please double-check the following just to make sure as gift giving season approaches.

Your Homeowners or Renters policy:
Once you have applied your deductible, standard policies tend to insure household goods and insure items for losses due to “covered perils” such as fire, theft, hail or wind damage. Most policies have specific coverage limits, meaning they will only pay up to a certain amount for personal valuables. For example, say you lose a $5,000 diamond ring and your policy only provides a sub-limit for jewelry of $1,000, you’ll be out 4 grand. Ouch!

Valuable Personal Property Insurance
Because Homeowners and Renters Policies do not cover every type of loss, you may want to consider the advantages of a Valuable Personal Property Insurance endorsement/policy. This type of policy has no deductible and is specifically designed to cover “special” items or gifts such as cameras, jewelry, musical instruments, stamps, coins, fine arts, and many other valuable items.

To make sure you have the right coverage this holiday season or at any other time, just call your friendly agents at Bikernet Insurance. We’ll do all we can to be of assistance and guide you right to protect your cherished possessions.

Happy Holidays folks,

FEATURE OF THE WEEK FROM AUSTRALIA–  I spent most of last Saturday at Australia’s top custom shop, Deus Ex Machina, as one of the judges of the inaugural “Boundless Enthusiasm Bike Build-Off.” There were over thirty bikes in the yard, with chrome and paintwork glinting under the unseasonably hot sun. Before the judging officially started, I wandered around incognito and checked out the bikes. Four machines immediately jumped out at me, and of those four, just one appeared to meet the primary judging criteria: “Making the most with the least”. That bike was Much Much Go, built by industrial designer Nick Eterovic. And by the end of the day, Nick had won not only the First Prize, but also the People’s Choice award.

“When the call-out for the competition came, I found out a little late,” said Nick after the show. “But a friend offered me a 1979 Honda CB250T to work with. It was basically a frame and wheels (and a few cobwebs). I had 55 days to build it, but my vision for the bike didn’t take long to form. I’d had a few ideas floating around for a long time—I wanted it to be a nod to Japanese customization, but at the same time, I didn’t want it to be like any bike I’d seen before.”

Nick chopped the back of the frame off and mounted shorter suspension struts to drop the bike about 175mm (six inches) at the rear. “This naturally rotated the frame and raked out the front end, but it wasn’t enough, I wanted a more balanced look with the motor sitting equally between the wheels. To achieve this I cut a wedge out from the neck and raked the forks out further.” Nick reshaped the dented tank, mounted the bars under the top bridge, set the footpegs back to the pillion position, and made his own brake and gear linkages.

It was the exhaust that immediately caught my eye when I first saw Much Much Go. “I wanted the exhaust and intake to sit high, with all the tubing gathered in and around the motor in one continuous form,” said Nick. “So I bought some straight lengths and three 180 degree bends … It’s standard automotive exhaust tubing painted with 3M white aerosol exhaust paint.”

In being true to the Deus brief of “making the most with the least”, the only money Nick spent went on carburetors (stock), a chain, throttle, clutch lever, suspension, battery, exhaust tubing and paint. That came to AU$735 in total. “The rest was time, hard work and plenty of late nights. Luckily I had lots of good advice and a helping hand when I needed it.” Nick took home a full toolset from sponsors Snap-On, and a pair of Vitesse Moto boots are on their way to him as well. Good work, fella.

BIKERNET TRASH TRUCK COMPANY OPEN AUSTRALIAN DIVISION–A Bikernet refuse collector in Cairns, Australia, is driving along a street picking up the wheelie bins and emptying them into his compactor. He goes to one house where the bin hasn’t been left out, and in the spirit of kindness, and after having a quick look about for the bin, he gets out of his truck goes to the front door and knocks. There’s no answer
Being a kindly and conscientious bloke, he knocks again – much harder. Eventually a Chinese man comes to the door.

“Harro!” says the Chinese man.

“Gidday, mate! Where’s ya bin?” asks the collector.

“I bin on toiret,” explains the Chinese bloke, a bit perplexed.
Realising the fellow had misunderstood him, the bin man smiles and tries again. “No ! No ! Mate, Where’s your dust bin?”

“I dust been to toiret, I toll you!” says the Chinese man, still perplexed.

“Listen,” says the collector. “You’re misunderstanding me. Where’s your ‘wheelie’ bin?'”

“OK, OK.” replies the Chinese man with a sheepish grin and whispers in the collector’s ear. “I wheelie bin having sex wiffa wife’s sista!”

CLASSIC OF THE WEEK–Heber City, Utah. Union Pacific 2-8-0 #618 and a 1953 Buick Super. This has to be the classic of classic photos! It defies time itself.  When I saw this photo, I was transported back to those wonderful days when life was full of simple pleasures, back when we were satisfied with less and happy to walk instead of ride. This picture was taken on February 6, 2007 when time and eternity intersect at this crossing. And to think that you and I, and others, once had a stage like this to look at every day for the greatest performance ever.

Oh what the generation of today has missed! Great Memories!

LUNCH IS SERVED–I need to scramble into the Bikernet galley for chow, then we hit it until the news is completed, edited, images added, codes embedded, and Bob T. images selected. Then, as usual, I miss something, or some bastard sends us some last minute news tidbit. Then we call general quarters, editorial meeting to decide whether to stop the goddamn presses and slip it in, or toss it in the already growing Sunday Post file.

There never seems to ever be an end to the news. This weekend could be a good one. I need to tear the Mudflap girl bike down and haul out some more components to the Spitfire think tank, machine shop. I need to get started on the Bikernet Display for the IMS show in Long Beach. The plan is to build a pedastal to hold the Peashooter. I plan to sell books, 5-Ball hot sauce, Bedrolls and bandanas. Feel free to stop by our booth for a free Bikernet Sticker.

I also have a handful of show passes for IMS Long Beach, and a couple of other shows. Just send me a small bag of gold and I’ll ship you a couple of tickets. Or just drop your address to me at: Bandit@Bikernet.com, and Sin Wu will take care of it.

The dates and shows are:

Long Beach, Ca
Dec 17th – 19th

Washington, D.C.
Jan 14th – 16th

Minneapolis, MN
Feb 4th – 6th

Have a helluva weekend.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
