When Indian Larry throws a block party bash for “a few close friends” it's a whole new level of debauchery. We got the party word, dropped women, tools and even new chrome and blasted down to Brooklyn. We knew not to expect the usual hot dogs, beer, live rock and roll and interesting folks to chat with.
When locals ponder a neighborhood block party it conjures up visions of old folks sitting on the stoop or in lawn chairs. Not exactly the scene we expected for this one and we weren't wrong.
The crowd was mainly locals. Locals in the vastly growing chopper community that is. The chopper neighborhood is sort of vast these days and people flocked in from all over the country for this shindig. Fabricator Kevin and Carla from Detroit rode in as did the Chicago Greaser and a passel of other supporters from the Horse Mag. Michael Lichter was also there taking pictures for posterity. The King of Hot Rods, John Booster tooled up from Florida in his sweet '49-'50 flamed Ford coupe. Our buddy Jose from Caribbean Choppers in Puerto Rico must have had a wet ride.
Billy Lane, Nasty Nick and crew from Choppers Inc. rode in from the south. Chopper Dave, Broadway Choppers and Fast Bikes Inc. rounded out the builders in attendance. The infamous Ice Cream Man From Hell scream into town in his flame throwing, jet powered ice cream truck. The damned thing shot 40-foot flames out the rear end rattling windows and security gates, melting the already hot NYC pavement.
They were happy to find that instead of Ayatollah Assahola, it was just a bunch of good-natured American bikers partying like back in the pre-war days. They joined the festivities.
That was Saturday 6/5, and Monday it's back to the chopper grind for Indian Larry and crew. The Discovery Channel will be back filming another show featuring the talents of Larry & Crew. Paul Cox, Knucklehead Steve and the rest of the crew have work cut out for them this time, but I'm sworn to secrecy, as to the Indian Larry bike competiting with the Tiki bike creation, complete with bamboo like frame. The unveiling is scheduled for Laconia next week, 6/12 through 6/20.
I'll be there to bring you the latest on those bikes in an upcoming feature.
