Hey,
I live in Motorcycle Nirvana. I live and breathe motorcycles. Sure, I would like to do more, build more and write more books, but I’m coming face to face with my legacy.
I had a meeting with a close friend yesterday. He has three PHDs, one in psychology, one in finance, and one in Art. He warns me, “families are toxic.”
I went to see him about investments. I have a very meager stock portfolio, since putting your money in the bank is a waste of time. I’m 68 and Dr. Nuttboy is older. He said his mission is to amass wealth. I’m after some level of retirement security. I’m sharing these thoughts with you, because young or old we need to think about the future. The younger you are the better the chance you have to put something together for your retirement, unless you work for a union or the school district.
I will share various thoughts with you on the topic over the weeks ahead. Maybe you can remind me to stay focused from time to time.
Stocks, bonds, ETFs are virtually the easiest way to invest. You could paint paintings, build motorcycles, write books, or build houses. They are all investments. And you can do whatever works for you, but then it’s up to you to make them pay off and use the money wisely.
The good doctor made some initial suggestions. First he is frugal to a fault. He’s a rich cheap bastard and I don’t understand why he’s still trying to amass wealth. He’s old, he’s rich, he doesn’t have kids, etc. He needs wealth like he needs a hole in the head.
But that brings up another topic and one I challenge with my Buddhist teachings. Look around. If your brother has smoked all his life, is he going to quit, unlikely. Folks get very stuck in their ways. It takes hard work to change that.
Back to the doctor’s recommendations. He’s frugal. He said the following, “If you want a new motorcycle, buy it, but make some money available for investment.” So he wants you to be happy and still invest. He doesn’t want you to throw money away. If you want to take a trip do it, but don’t toss money down the drain on bullshit.
If being happy is working on motorcycles, go for it. If the ol’ lady bitches about spending on bikes, tell her each one is an investment. It’s true. If you build a shop in the back of your house, it’s an investment.
I’m working on buying dividend stocks so ultimately those dividends can augment my retirement income. Many bikers who don’t have union jobs may not have much of a retirement set aside. Social Security will help, but it won’t cover the nut. You need about three Social Security checks.
So, according to the Doctor open a stock account. I have one with Charles Schwab. Start putting any spare change into it, even if it’s just $100 a month. I will go into some stock buying philosophies next week.
Let’s hit the news:

1. reckless; rash; irresponsible: He had a harum-scarum youth.
Quotes
… he warn’t bad, so to say–only mischeevous. Only just giddy and harum-scarum, you know. He warn’t any more responsible than a colt.
— Mark Twain, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, 1876
Origin of harum-scarum
Harum-scarum entered English in the late 1600s. The first element of this rhyming compound, harum, is based on the obsolete verb hare meaning “to harass” or on the the verb hare “to run like a hare”; the second element is based on the common verb scare.

DAN SUGRUE: PHOTOGRAPHER, MOTO MAN, NEW YORKER.
We’re thrilled to welcome a new official ambassador to the Royal Family. We’ve given Dan Sugrue a new Royal Enfield Continental GT on which to explore the hippest destinations in all five boroughs of New York City and to document his adventure in photographs for us as he goes.
In Dan’s words:
“I’m totally stoked to represent a 115-year-old motorcycle company in the most exciting city in the world and to share pictures with the entire world of what it’s like to ride in New York on this awesome cafe racer. Thank you, Royal Enfield!”
HAMSTER CHRONICLES— There are two major rules to becoming a member of the Hamsters, maybe three. You must pay your dues. You must have a custom motorcycle and you must make it to Sturgis almost every year.
The Hamsters have also created many of their own events around the country, which are very cool. So, there are plenty of opportunities to hang out with fellow rodents.
So, a brother Hamster called the other day in a panic. “Sold the Blue Chopper and paid off my Street Glide,” he said quivering. “What if the Hamster police find out I don’t have a custom motorcycle?”
“I suggest you sell everything you have and leave the country,” I said in a dead firm voice. “Just leave your cute wife with me and your new truck. I’ll try to hold off the Rodent Death Squad.” Are we a benevolent brotherhood or what?
But then he sent me these shots of a slightly modified Cross Bones, “So, this is my bar hopper now,” he said. “I’m a child of the ‘60s, what can I say.”
Fuck, he was off the hook, and I was already making plans for my new truck…

FACIAL RECOGNITION is a bigger privacy threat than anyone imagined–
This article, written by investigative researcher Dave Maass, was originally published on the Electronic Frontier Foundation website.
Before all of this ever went down
In another place, another town
You were just a face in the crowd
You were just a face in the crowd
Out in the street walking around
A face in the crowd
-Tom Petty
If we don’t speak up now, the days when we can walk around with our heads held high without fear of surveillance are numbered. Federal and local law enforcement across the country are adopting sophisticated facial recognition technologies to identify us on the streets and in social media by matching our faces to massive databases.
We knew the threat was looming. But a brand new report from the Georgetown Law Center for Privacy and Technology indicates the problem is far worse than we could’ve imagined. The researchers compare the use of facial recognition to a perpetual line-up, where everyday, law-abiding citizens are pulled into law enforcement investigations without their consent and, in many cases, without their knowledge.
The researchers sent more than 100 public records requests to police agencies. Among their findings:
· One in two Americans adults has their image in a facial recognition network, impacting more than 117 million people. Law enforcement in at least 26 states use facial recognition in combination with driver license and ID photos. Sixteen states grant the FBI access to their DMV databases.
· At least five large cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas, use or have considered using facial recognition to scan the faces of pedestrians in real time with surveillance cameras.
· Facial recognition is almost completely unregulated. No states have passed comprehensive laws limiting facial recognition, and only one of 52 agencies surveyed expressly forbids police from using facial recognition to surveil people engaged in political, religious, or other First Amendment protected activities. Very few have taken measures to ensure accuracy of facial recognition results or have audited their systems for abuse.
· Facial recognition systems have a disproportionate impact on Communities of Color. One study, which included an FBI researcher, found the technology is less reliable when analyzing African American faces. Because African Americans are already arrested at a disproportionate rate, their mugshots are overrepresented in facial recognition databases.
If the technology has a higher rate of misidentification for people of color, this will also increase the chance that they will be considered a suspect for a crime they didn’t commit. EFF raised many of these issues in our response to the FBI’s plan to exempt its Next Generation Identification biometric database.
In response to the report, EFF has joined a large coalition of privacy advocates to demand the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division take two major steps to keep facial recognition in check:
1. Expand ongoing investigations of police practices and include in future investigations an examination of whether the use of surveillance technologies, including face recognition technology, has had a disparate impact on communities of color; and
2. Consult with and advise the FBI to examine whether the use of face recognition has had a disparate impact on communities of color.
The problem isn’t just the police but also an aggressive push by biometric tech vendors who downplay the accuracy issues while marketing the systems as crucial to contemporary policing. The danger that facial recognition poses to our privacy and civil liberties is real and immediate. While we do give up a small amount of privacy when we walk around in public, we must preserve our ability to blend in as just a face in the crowd.

THE KICKSTAND CHRONICLES— So, for the first time in 40 years of riding, I experienced something brand new! Now did she choose to teach me this lesson in the barn with doors closed, or possibly even on a long lonely deserted road, oh hell no!
She chose to remind me that you should always ensure the kickstand is locked in place, at the Harley Shop! In front the remaining crowd, from a car/bike show they had held earlier.
I stopped to pick up a cone the highway peg (adapted from the Shovelhead and don’t fold up) knocked over, trying to squeeze through. I kicked the stand down and got off and there she laid! Oh well, at least I know the shut off works when she’s sideways!
Ain’t too proud to admit it. However, think I’ll have an adult beverage and discuss her teaching schedule and time frames with her.
She sort of looked like this, except with without the brace. Well she was leaning on the engine guard.

I had an accident because of a kickstand once. The spring was knocked off by a speed bump. The kickstand swung out, bounced against the pavement twice and locked, driving me into a parked car.

WEEKEND GUN NUT REPORT–
Hillary Clinton: “Reasonable” to Require Guns to be Unusable at Home—
Hillary Clinton is lying … again.
The candidate who claimed politicians “need both a public and a private position” on policy issues demonstrated that tendency Wednesday night in the final presidential debate in a desperate bid for damage control on a statement she made in a private meeting with wealthy donors.
That earlier statement was simple, uncomplicated, and utterly damning to anyone who believes in the Second Amendment. Hillary Clinton told the very people who she depends on to fund her political ambitions: “the Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment. And I am going to make that case every chance I get.”
As a Yale-educated attorney, Clinton knew exactly what she was saying when she made that remark. But it doesn’t take a lawyer to understand the contempt it demonstrates for the right to keep and bear arms.
At the time Clinton made that statement in September 2015, the Supreme Court had decided only two cases under Second Amendment during the 21st Century.
The first was District of Columbia v. Heller in 2008. That case concerned two aspects of D.C. law. One effectively banned the possession of handguns within private homes. The other effectively required all types of firearms to be kept in an unusable condition within a person’s own residence.
The Supreme Court held that both of the restrictions offended the Second Amendment. Along the way, it debunked the District’s argument that the Second Amendment protects only a “collective” right for states to maintain their own militias, rather than a right individuals can raise on their own behalf.
The very modest proposition to arise from Heller is that there is an individual right under the Second Amendment to keep handguns and other commonly-possessed firearms in their homes in a usable state for self-defense.
Two years later, the Supreme Court expanded upon the Heller decision in a case involving a handgun ban in Chicago. There, the court invalidated the Chicago ban and confirmed that the protection of the Second Amendment applies not only to federal restrictions, like the ones in D.C., but those passed by state and local governments as well.
Hillary Clinton was well aware of this when she declared the Supreme Court “wrong” on the Second Amendment. Her audience understood the significance of her remarks as well, cheering and applauding her promise to “take on the NRA.”
Later, Clinton doubled down on her rhetoric, describing Heller as a “terrible” decision. And as of June, she was still unable to bring herself to acknowledge the Second Amendment protects an individual right.
The bottom line – whether you consider her “private” or “public” position – is that Hillary Clinton’s own words clearly establish that she is no friend to gun owners and dismisses the Second Amendment as any obstacle to gun control.
HISTORIC QUOTE– “The Budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome will become bankrupt. People must again learn to work instead of living on public assistance.”

CABBAGE PATCH Bar owner from Volusia Co. killed in head-on crash– A 71-year-old man from New Smyrna Beach was killed late Thursday night after Florida Highway Patrol says the man was traveling in the wrong lane on State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach. The other driver involved in the crash is in critical condition.
Florida Highway Patrol identified the man killed as Ronald Luznar, the owner of Sopotnick’s Cabbage Patch Bar on State Road 415 in New Smyrna Beach.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Luznar was traveling in a 2002 Ford SUV south on S.R. 415 at about 11:40 p.m. Thursday, and “for an unknown reason, Luznar traveled eastbound in the westbound lanes of S.R. 44.”
According to the report, Luznar traveled about a quarter of a mile in the wrong direction before he was struck head on by a 2016 Ford pickup truck driven by Justin Richards, 28, also of New Smyrna Beach.
Richards is listed in critical condition and was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center, the report said.
The crash remains under investigation as this is a developing story and we will continue to update when more information becomes available.
Our hearts are broken today. It is with great regret that we inform you that Ronnie Luznar has been in a head on collision and did not survive.
We will post more as it develops. We ask you to please respect the family’s privacy and allow them to grieve. We will post more as it develops.

IT’S ALL A MYSTERY— I’m watching Marco Polo on Netflix. It’s an amazing story about a traveler who doesn’t travel. He’s stuck in the 1200s with the Kubla Kahn who just captured China. At one time the Kahn of Kahns, the son of the Mongol ruler Genghis Kahn controlled 1/5 of the earth. We would speak Chinese if it wasn’t for a bad weather pattern holding Mr. Kahn from storming into Europe.
If you think about it, most of the problems on this planet are caused by governments and treachery within them. Ah, but we can find Nirvana anywhere as long as we stay out of reach of the Man.
This coming week we will bring you tons of content from the Bikernet Horde of Warriors doing all they can to keep a slice of Freedom available in America for the Chopper Horde and craftsmen and women of the Chrome Empire. It’s tough but we will make it happen.
