DESIGNER ALAN LEE REPORTS TO BIKERNET–This is Alan Lee. Thank you for your precious time in reading this quick note. This email is in response to all of those who are asking about my whereabouts.

Many in the motorcycle industry have noticed that I’ve been off the radar for a little while. Many in the automotive industry noticed that I have showing face a little more, once again. This is because I’ve been up to a bold, new project. I’ve been working on a Supercar; One, single, high-performance marriage of performance, technology and artistry. Please observe the graphic below, or follow the link below, if you are curious about any details that are underway.

alan lee engine

Project started in July 2009, duration 2 years:

We are actually at +- 8% done

All the measurement are based on a Ferrari Enzo , 4 meters long ,126 centimeter high, And 2 meters wide

All the pre project was done on blue print and computer before starting, I researched on internet for several month , buyed books and ad several meeting with engineers, designers, artists all around the world, taking advices and informations.

alan le concept

If you want to look serious, you need to use serious tools, I don?t wanted to look-like a regular mechanic man who build his car on his garage. The first step after all the research, was to buy two Ferrari V8 motors and three transmissions (2 Ferrari and 1 Audi), which I took in parts and started slowly to rebuild, my way.

The actual motor on the car is a 360 Modena Challenge with a 6 speed transmission F1 (paddle shifter). I will add two superchargers with intercooler from Procharger at +- 7 kilos of boost (a lot!!).

My hand made intake manifold, my hand made computers (5 computers), I expect 750 to 900 Horses power at 11.000 RPM, that?s mean. The level or over most of the actual supercars , Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, Mc Laren , and others.

The center part (where the seat are) is a unibody(center cell for protect passengers), like on a Enzo; Ferrari use a maximum of carbon kevlar, I use a maximum of aluminum (more ?noble? material, and more difficult to use), the rear frame will bolt on the unibody and will support all the rear , motor and transmission, wheels, double tanks, ect

alan lee engine close

The car will run with 22 inches wheels front and rear, the difficulty is to negociate with tires company to make me special 22 inches tires who handle over 340 km/h

We will use also like in my last glass bike a Hydrogen generator witch help to run cleaner and also use less gas

The best way to describe the project is ONE MAN,ONE CAR, nobody as I know tried to accomplish a so hard task in to years, by himself and with his own money.

alan lee frame

All the car is made of aluminum, frame, unibody and complete body. No paint just the polished alu for the body and brushed alu for the frame/unibody, I don?t want to hide anything under the paint , so it needs to be perfect!!

Interior will be in red leather with carbon Kevlar accent.

The goal when the car is finish, is to display it at all the main antoshow, Los Angeles, Detroit, Franckfort, Tokyo, Milan, Beijing and other for my personnal promotion.

I have a price for the car but will not tell you now, you can compare with the other brand !!

Let say that I believe it?s around 30 peoples in the world capable to pay what I will ask for the finish car.

Make your own research and you will see that it?s not a lot of people in the entire planet able to accomplish what I do ????maybe nobody else.

EASYRIDERS SHOW SERIES HITS CHARLOTTE– The Easyrider Bike Show Tour came to Charlotte this past weekend. It was a wet and rainy weekend but warm. The show always serves as break from winter every year and this year for me it was well appreciated. Standing in the unemployment line has a way of making winter even longer!

The bikes entered in the show were all top shelf and the Hot Rods and Rat Rods were cool as well! I entered my 4 speed jockey shift Evo just for fun and to break the boredom. I did not win anything but I really did not care, it was a win for me just to get away from things for awhile. There were some great Panheads at the show along with every other model also.

ERshow2

The crowd was heavy Saturday and dropped off some on Sunday. The show is always a good place to see old friends and make new ones. All in all it was good time. Hopefully the Easyrider Bike Show Tour will make a stop in Charlotte next year!

Later!

SuperTrapp Launches SE, Mean Mother, and Kerker Slip-Ons for 2010 Touring Models–There is a brand new addition to SuperTrapp’s SE line: The 2010 SE ($249.00) has arrived, specifically designed for the 2010 Harley-Davidson Street Glide (FLHX) / Road Glide (FLTR) models to produce that signature SE sound on the 2010 stock head pipes. SE’s are constructed with a chrome-plated steel shell and a steel core. Their race-proven baffle increases torque and horsepower. SE’s feature a unique internal baffle heat shield design. The muffler is rebuildable and the core replaceable. They are the champion of numerous magazine shootouts with a seven to twelve percent horsepower gain. SE’s are the king of bottom-mid range torque with a steady, tough, low rumble and are only 3dB louder than stock.

A new addition to the Kerker family has also arrived and is also now available: The 2010 Kerker Slip-On ($249.00), has also been developed specifically for the 2010 Harley-Davidson Street Glide (FLHX) / Road Glide (FLTR) models. These new Kerker Slip-Ons produce that signature Kerker sound in conjunction with the new factory head pipes. Kerker Slip-Ons have a proven seven to thirteen horsepower gain and promise great mid-high range power. Kerker Slip-Ons are 8dB louder than stock with a profound, deep, throaty rumble. Kerker Slip-Ons keep matinenance at a low with a rebuildable core and packing. A Mikuni Core is also available for peak performance and ultimate flow.

Last but not least, SuperTrapp’s Mean Mothers just got meaner and are now available for the first time as Slip-Ons ($499.00) in chrome for H-D ’09 – ’10 Touring Models. These offer the same loud and throaty, drag pipe sound as the original Mean Mothers, but are 2 3/4 inch chrome-plated heatshields with a stainless steel 2 1/4 inch expansion chamber, with Black Ceramic Coated Billet End Caps. They also include a removable louvered core. These new Mean Mothers Slip-Ons can simply be added to the ends of the stock head pipes, offering that drag pipe sound without the drag pipe price. Mean Mothers offer a 7.5 lbs. or 33 percent weight savings, an eight percent horsepower gain over stock, and are available in four different length: Short, Standard, Long or Staggered. Baffles and replaceable heat shields are pre-installed.

GENO

HOT ROD & CUSTOM CAR SHOW 2010–At the 16th Padova Bike Expo Show (www.bike-exposhow.com), that took place from January 15th to January 17th, the main characters of the show were as usual the most prestigious custom bikes coming from all Europe, but this comprehensive exhibition presented even an exciting special show for all US car enthusiasts.

In fact the exhibition centre of Padova was literally invaded not only by more than 60,000 visitors, but even by the roar of powerful American V8 engines. In an exhibition area of over 6,000 square metres (Pavilion 5) took shape a colorful show. Cruisin’ Life Magazine (www.cruisinlife.it) organized on an area of 3,000 square metres the Hot Rod & Custom Car Show, an exhibition of the most outstanding and sparkling Hot Rods and Custom Cars currently on Italian ground; together with the classic and “mild custom” cars of the Route 66 American Cars Club was created an exciting vintage-retro atmosphere that met the noticeable approval of many visitors during the whole weekend.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the show offered a great opportunite to enjoy a vintage and rockabilly atmosphere, thanks event to the presence of many interesting stands (accessories, hairstyle, clothing, design, etc.). Great bands, such as The Crunchy Candies, Jhonnyboy & The Ice Cream and The Mad Tubes, entertained all presents with their music. Than there were the charming “Vintage Fashion Parade” (courtesy of Sam Missous Vintage and Futuretr?), the American car meeting organized by the Route 66 ACC, the unleashed DJ set and then two “tattoo contests”.

According to the considerable turnout of visitors, we can say that even for this 2010 edition, the Hot Rod & Custom Car Show has hit the mark, giving all presents a vivid and exhiting experience of US Car Culture. We give you an appointment to 2011 (January, 14th-16th), again in Padua… because real passion lives here!

Nebraska no-helmet proposal to get another ride– LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – A bill that would let motorcyclists go helmet-free in Nebraska will get another ride.

On Wednesday, the Legislature’s Transportation and Telecommunications Committee advanced a measure (LB200) that would allow bikers 21 years old and older to ride without helmets.

The committee vote means the bill introduced by Sen. Charlie Janssen of Fremont will likely be debated by the full Legislature. Last year, the bill got stuck in committee.

Similar measures have failed in the past, including in 2008.

The majority of states let people ride motorcycles without helmets, but safety concerns have persuaded Nebraska lawmakers to require helmets.

HARLEY PROJECTING 201,000 to 212,000 BIKER SHIPMENTS IN 2010–Harley-Davidson’s fourth quarter and full year financial results reveal that the company has seen full year income from “continuing operations” drop to $4.29 billion in 2009 against $5.58 billion in 2008.

Including its MV Agusta discontinued operations, Harley is reporting a $55.1 million full-year loss, with the restructuring-impacted fourth quarter loss of $218.7 million taking the annual performance into negative territory for the first time in more than two decades.

Compared to its 5.58 billion revenue in 2008, the company is down 23.1 percent in revenue terms for the year, with fourth quarter revenue down a whopping 40.2 percent to 764.5 million from 1.28 billion for the final quarter of 2008.

Harley President/CEO Keith Wandell remains “confident we have made the right decisions for our future” saying that “these actions are critical to restoring greater profitability and long-term growth to Harley-Davidson.”

Wandell cites some $224 million of restructuring charges impacting the 2009 results, but the company is now saying that, in total, its restructuring is estimated to cost between $430 and $460 million going into 2010, which includes some $175 to $195 million that will work through its books this year.

Harley says that it is ultimately anticipating annual ongoing savings arising from restructuring of between $240 and $260 million a year, with some $135 to $155 million savings anticipated in 2010.In the fourth quarter of 2009, revenue from Harley-Davidson motorcycles was down 45.6 percent over the final quarter of 2008 at $552 million on a huge 53.1 percent drop in motorcycle shipments to its worldwide dealer network, at 35,938, which is at the lower end of prior guidance. Parts and Accessories though were only down 4.9 percent for the quarter, with General Merchandise only off 3.2 percent.

For the full year, motorcycle revenue was down to $3.17 billion from $4.12 billion in 2008, with motorcycle shipments down to 223,023 for the year, against 303,479 for 2008.

For this year Harley is now saying it anticipates shipments to be in the range 201,000 to 212,000, which would be a reduction of between five and ten percent, giving some credence to off-the-record reports from within the company that the general feeling is that having planned the hits it is taking to deal with the impacts of the downturn, this year should see demand for the firm’s motorcycle broadly stabilize by the end of the year.

In market share terms, the company continues to perform better relative to market decline internationally than at home. Harley says that its full-year decrease in motorcycle sales (in its 651+cc heavyweight sector) represents a 22.7 percent decline worldwide, with 25.8 percent decline domestically, and 15.4 percent in international markets.

There does appear to be some continuing evidence that Harley is outperforming the market, with on-highway motorcycle sales for the domestic US market as a whole (all displacements) down over 40 percent for the year, and evidence to support the “stabilization” theory.Compared to the full-year performance, final quarter retail sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles declined “just” 27.9 percent (domestic 651+cc), despite its reported greater than 50 percent year-on-year reduction in shipments to dealers (suggesting that some supply/demand equilibrium is on the horizon) with final quarter international retail sales down 10.3 percent only in international markets.

DARWIN AWARDS CONTINUES–5.. A teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit.

6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer… $15.

[If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?]

7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he’d just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.

Don’t miss the final Darwin Awards in the Sunday Post.
