WOMEN RIDERS NOW RECOMMENDS BEGINNER BIKES–If you’re thinking about getting into motorcycling and buying your first bike, you may be wondering what motorcycle is right for you. We at Women Riders Now generally advise to start out on a smaller motorcycle, one that you can easily and confidently practice the skills learned in the motorcycle training class.
Here are some suggestions of motorcycles that are ideal for most beginning riders. There are certainly other motorcycles out there; some small displacement dual sport motorcycles are often recommended as a beginner bike. This is a list we’ve put together based on what we’ve found are the most popular choices among beginning women riders. Note that we did not list prices because they vary from year to year.

Description -An entry-level cruiser that’s inexpensive to own and operate, this is Kawasaki’s smallest cruiser. The Eliminator 125 is an air-cooled, 5-speed, chain-driven cruiser with a seat height of 26.8 inches, low enough that most riders can easily plant both feet on the ground at stops. Weighing a scant 291 pounds, it is lightweight and easy for a beginner or smaller riders to handle. This is a great bike on which first timers can practice their new-found riding skills. Finishing touches include a stepped seat for two-up riding (although we can’t imagine riding two-up on this small of a bike for any length of time), and classic cruiser styling that make you think it’s bigger than 125cc bike.

Engine Break-In Procedure FROM CRAZY HORSE ENGINES–Lots of us are finishing bikes for the summer. Some of us rev up a new engine then hit the road for Sturgis. That’s not the best notion, unless you’ve got the bucks for the repair or don’t mind breaking down in the desert. Correct break-in will assure longer engine life and will prevent unnecessary engine damage. We just posted the Crazy Horse Engine Break-in Recommendations in our tech department. Don’t miss it.
MILLION MILE MAN BREAKS DOWN WHILE ATTEMPTING ANOTHER RECORD TO ALASKA–Dave called to tell me he had a chirping noise coming from his bike and hoped it wasn?t his transmission. It turned out to be some sealed bearing that went out, and Harley says that has never happened before. Anyway, he broke down at Northway Crossing, mile marker 1264, just south of Fairbanks.
That was on Thursday. The bike was repaired at the H-D Farthest North Outpost, and I assume he?s back on the road.
I?m waiting to hear if he reached Prudhoe Bay. I?m hoping he?s been there and is on his return trip to the Keys. He has to get back to Wisconsin so he and I can ride back to Sturgis for the July 28th opening of his Million Mile Bike exhibit at the Sturgis Museum.
I?ll let you know what?s happening when I hear back from him.

RAY WHEELER PLANS FOR BADLANDS RUN–Sturgis departure date ?? Route ? Possibility I can the pack meet in-route ?
My Dyna is getting a top end re-build with over 900 hours recorded on a Daytona Twin -Tec closed loop computer .
All of this after running coast to coast and low 11’s at 125 mph in Vegas at the drag strip and making 6 passes at B U B races recording a 147.098 mph pass. last summer
Compression test was 190 lbs. per cylinder .
Leak down was 8% front and 14% rear .
We are replacing valves and seals ( seals that came out were still soft ) , guides are still within specs . The valves had a very slight amount of carbon , intake and exhaust — but exhibit slight wear in the guide area .
Fresh .010 over pistons and rings are on order. Cylinders and pistons look great although we are replacing.

J&P Cycles Donates A Record $23,000 to Camp Courageous of Iowa–ANAMOSA, Iowa – Celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2009, J&P Cycles? is proud to announce that their 2009 fund-raising campaign for Camp Courageous of Iowa has raised a record-breaking amount of $23,000 in cash and product donations. Located a mere 10 miles from J&P Cycles?, Camp Courageous is a year-round recreational facility for handicapped and special needs children and adults ranging in age from one to 105, located outside Monticello.
The record breaking amount was raised through J&P Cycles Annual Poker Run and Motorcycle Industry Golf Outing, both held in June. This year?s amount brings the total donation raised over the past nine years to $90,000!
J&P Cycles President and Vice President John and Jill Parham presented this year?s check of $23,000 to Camp Courageous of Iowa Executive Director Charlie Becker. ?We are so grateful to our wonderful customers, suppliers and employees for their participation in our Camp Courageous fundraisers,? said John. ?We are ecstatic for our donation this year to be the biggest in J&P history since this is such a special year for us. We couldn?t have achieved this amount without everyone?s support,? he added.
On June 26, J&P held its 8th Annual Golf Outing at Fawn Creek Country Club in Anamosa. The golf tournament began in 2002 as a fun event for the many manufacturers and vendors who make the trek to Eastern Iowa for J&P Cycles Annual Open House. This event gives J&P the opportunity to play host to a relaxing afternoon of friendship and fun, all while raising money for a worthy cause. Distributors and media from around the country attend the event and contribute by sponsoring holes and awards in addition to making cash donations. When the numbers were tallied, sponsors, golfers and other event attendees raised $22,000 including cash and product donations!
The other $1,000 was raised earlier in June at the 12th Annual J&P Cycles? Poker Run despite bad weather and a rainy day.

NEW ON BIKERNETMETRIC.COM FOR ALL YOUR METRIC NEEDS–This week is the LA Calendar Show. This is the show where the infamous LowLa bike will be unveiled. LowLa was built under the guidance of World Champion Metric builder, Jim Giuffra. The work was done by the modeling agency. I have some spy shots and it looks really cool. I have promised not to the let the Metric Cat out of the bag but I do have shots of the bike and ALL the models with it. I will get a poster and some shots up next week for everyone to see. This is a real first in motorcycle building and I am glad that LA Calendar?s Jim Gianatsis understands the Metric market. He has always put on a kick ass show and this will be no different.
Other builders will include: Todd of Todd?s Cycles, Greg Westbury, Chica, Roger Goldammer, Russell Mitchell, Roland Sands and more.
I am still looking for a Yamaha 650 special or a CB 750 Honda runner so we can do some more tech articles. These bikes are making a great comeback and for good reasons-you can turn them into all kinds of creations with ease. Let me know if you have one in the California area just sitting around. HAPPY 19TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE EASYRIDERS STREAMLINER–It held the motorcycle world’s land speed record for 16 years at 321.5 mph. It still holds a class record at over 284 mph. It was powered by two old 90-inch Shovelheads and lots of hard work by the staff of Easyriders, including Bandit and Micah McCloskey.
What a class act.
BIG DOG TECH QUESTION FOR PROGRESSIVE SHOCKS–I was told that ’89-99 Harley Softtails shocks would fit my 2005 Mastiff Big Dog the v-factor adjustable would they fit my motorcycle if not what shocks by progressive would fit. my cycle only had little over 1300 miles and notice the were leaking. not really wanting to go back to big dog to get shocks if they only last this small period of time
