Hey,
We’re getting damn close to shipping all our components off to paint. Of course there’s always a couple of critical chunks hanging out there in the wind, like the engine and front end. We are proud to announce that Custom Chrome has stepped up to be a Platinum 5-Ball Racing sponsor.
I’m sure anyone who has ever built a bike faces those nagging obstacles of missing parts. I feel so fortunate to have the industry step up to assist us with the Worlds Fastest Panhead effort, but the pressure’s on. This bastard better be fast as grease lightning. Wish we had the time to slip her into a wind tunnel. Watch for another report in the next week.
Let’s get with the program. The shop awaits the team:
SPEAKING OF BONNEVILLE ENGINE–Still waiting on STD components. It’s been six weeks. Can’t make a living like that. Should be finished with the heads, pistons and cylinders today. Flywheels are modified and Carrillo rods are ready, shaped and waiting to be balanced. We got creative with the NOS nozzles and vacuum retard fittings. Don’t hang too much off the top motormount so we can service the nozzles. We mounted the nozzles to the heads and not the intake manifold.

A RACE-INSPIRED SHIFT DRUMFOR OLD SKOOL HAND-SHIFT / FOOT-CLUTCH BIKE?–HASLETT, MI – APRIL 28, 2006With the bobber/old-skool craze in full effect, you’re probably seeing a lot of bikes with foot operated clutches and jockey shift transmissions. This hardcore style of riding is cool and having clean ape hangers with no hand levers is super clean looking. But make no mistake; it is harder to ride one of these pre-WWII setups than it may appear in the magazines.
The challenge are those final crucial moments as you roll up to the stoplight in front of the local Tavern with Suzie goo-goo pants checking you out curbside. In those final moments you have to find neutral and release the clutch so you can plant your left foot on the ground. Your right foot is busy with the rear brake duty bringing you to a stop. You don’t run a front brake because that’s not cool. What they don’t tell you is that finding neutral is a crapshoot with bad odds because most jockey shift linkages have a lever ratio many times that of its modern foot shift cousin. English translation: big lever ratios desensitize the feel of the detents in the transmission and make it almost impossible to feel the half-detent associated with finding neutral.
BAKER has a little trick to prevent you from looking like an old skool fool: the N1 shift drum. Originally developed for drag racers, the N1 shift pattern (Neutral-1-2-3-4-5-6) was designed to prevent false neutrals between 1st and 2nd by positioning neutral under 1st. This drag racer trick also eliminates all room for error in finding neutral on a jockey shift bike. As you roll up to the stoplight you tap all the way down with your left hand and you are guaranteed neutral because it is the last stop on the shift pattern.
Little Suzie notices your skill in negotiating your minimally equipped bobber to a seamless stop and decides to hop on and leave her boyfriend with hair on the bottom of his feet at the Tavern with his buddies who have real billy bob teeth. We don’t offer any products to help you from this point on.
The professionals at Choppers Inc, Detroit Bros, and Indian Larry Legacy use this unspoken trick and they love it. These guys ride jockey shift bikes and live the life style; they should know. The N1 drum is a no-cost option when a complete tranny is purchased; and makes finding neutral black and white.

LEATHER OVER-PANTS ROAD TEST COMING–Hey Bandit ………… I see your doing a road test on our Lil Joes Legendary Over-pants. …..Excellent!
About ten years ago I discovered Over-pants when riding to the Annual Rock festival in Darrington, Washington.
Of course as always the weather was perfect when we took off to the festival but by the time I got within a hundred miles of my destination it hit us …a monsoon…normal rain for western Washington……. but a monsoon to me.
When I finally arrived at the festival I was soaked. I never carry rain-gear so my chaps were my salvation from the rain. As I got off my bike my legs were dry but my crotch and ass were completely soaked.
Completely embarrassed and pissed I began a search for something better without having to carry rain-gear. I vowed that day to never to wear Chaps again.
I soon found over-pants that were from Pakistan. I scotch guarded them and WA-LA ………..rain-gear and warm-gear all in one.
I always carry a pair in my saddle bag just in case mother nature doesn’t want to play nice.
Since coming on board with Lil Joes…….it’s been my desire to develop a version in the Lil Joes style and Quality………I believe we have done that!
They offer a full one piece front and a two piece back for looks and longevity.
We added a wind/rain flap over the leg zippers for looks and function.I love these over-pants ……..each pair is made to the customers waist size and length…They are “Made in the USA” and “Guaranteed for Life.”
We haven’t decided on the retail price yet but are offering them to all our friends at Bikernet at a introductory price of $254.00

HINES MAKES SECOND CONSECUTIVE FINAL ROUND APPEARANCE AND GAINS VALUABLE POINTS ON V-ROD–ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 25, 2007) – Andrew Hines is the current three-time defending champion NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle champion.
Most champions like to start the season off with a bang – or in race terms, at least a win or two. Hines started the 2007 season with two first round losses.
Then the rider of Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson V-Rod recorded two consecutive second round losses – not exactly the way a champion would like to kick off the search for a record-setting fourth consecutive championship.
That’s when the team went testing. Hines and the rest of the squad made more than 40 passes at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis in hopes of catching up with the team dominating the point standings and winner’s circle.
The testing and hard work has paid off. Hines won last weekend’s NHRA event at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., and earned a runner-up finish at Sunday’s ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. That’s two consecutive final round appearances – more of what the team has been working toward.
Hines qualified in the No. 2 position with a career-best 6.910-second pass at 193.57 mph. Teammate Eddie Krawiec qualified for his first NHRA event at his home track with a 7.023 pass at 190.14, good enough for the No. 13 position.
Hines beat Paul Gast in the first round. Hines rode his V-Rod to a 6.957 pass at 189.60 to beat Gast’s 7.074 at 187.13 on his Fast by Gast Suzuki. Hines went on to beat Geno Scali in the second round with a 7.016 at 190.11 over Scali’s 7.103 at 188.52 on his Performance Machine Suzuki.
In semifinal action Hines topped Steve Johnson and the Snap-on Tools Suzuki team. Hines recorded a 6.969 at 191.13 over Johnson’s 7.045 at 189.90.
Hines fell in the final round to Craig Treble and the Team Tigue Suzuki squad. Hines came up short in his 17th career final round appearance by turning in a 7.003 at 190.48, falling to Treble’s 6.990 at 191.70.
While Hines is disappointed the team wasn’t able to score its second consecutive victory, he knows they are on the right path when it comes to seeking out success.
The next NHRA POWERade event is the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, June 28- July 1.
NEW ART FROM LARRY GROSSMAN–I just got back to town. Here is my newest, which I’m not sure you’ve seen.

THE MEDIA AND BLONDES– Homer, a handsome dude, walked into a sports bar around 9:58 PM. Hesat down next to this blonde at the bar and stared up at the TV. The 10:00news was on. The news crew was covering the story of a man on a ledge of alarge building preparing to jump. The blonde looked at Homer and said, “Do you think he’ll jump?”
Homersays, “You know, I bet he’ll jump.”
The blonde replied, “Well, I bet he won’t.”
Homer placed $20 on the bar and said, “You’re on!”
Just as the blonde placed her money on the bar, the guy did a swan diveoff the building, falling to his death.
The blonde was very upset and but handed her $20 to Homer, saying, “Fair’sfair. Here’s your money.”
Homer replied, “I can’t take your money. I saw this earlier on the 5 o’clock news and knew he would jump.”
The blonde replied, “I did too, but I didn’t think he’d do it again.”
Homer took the money
CHILDREN’S RIDE 12 SCORES FOR THE KIDS–Fantastic! We raised over $750,000 in three days! Mike Lichter was there and shot the whole event. Beautiful riding, amazing weather, Brian Klock, Zacky’s rods and Downtown H-D all built great bikes that were auctioned off for the event.
Dave Nichols dressed up as Captain Jack Sparrow and all of us went and visited the kids at the Seattle Childrens Hospital on Friday…very heart warming!

MAD JACK HEADED TO THE SAXON ASSEMBLY LINE–CASA GRANDE, ARIZ – June 26, 2007 – After much critical acclaim at the unveiling of the prototype in Cincinnati, Saxon Motorcycle Company has released the Mad Jack into full production. The Mad Jack is an aggressive V-Twin Streetfighter designed by master builder Gard Hollinger of L.A. County Choprods. The Mad Jack is the second production motorcycle that Gard has designed for Saxon. It will arrive at dealers in September as a 2008 model.
In 2005, Saxon unveiled the Black Crown, which quickly became one of Saxon’s best sellers. Based on its success, Saxon partnered with Gard to create a bike that would look like no other production motorcycle and be incredibly fun to ride. The result is a true statement in modern motorcycle design. Gard’s knowledge and respect for motorcycle history makes the Mad Jack a true American original.
Saxon uses a highly structured production line for final assembly of its motorcycles. In addition, numerous quality control checks and procedures are utilized and tracked in order to monitor performance trends and ensure continuous improvement.
The Mad Jack features numerous, unique “old-school modernistic” styling elements, unlike those found on any other production motorcycle. These components include: a proprietary frame, gas tank, fenders, machined aluminum strut system, LACC beehive side mounted oil filter, Moon Eyes barrel type oil tank and LACC hydraulic seat shock dampening system. In addition, each Mad Jack will be numbered and signed.
You can visit Saxon online at www.saxonmotorcycles.com
