ABATE APPLAUDS SC LAWMAKERS FOR MOTORCYCLE RIGHTS BILL–(Columbia) – ABATE of South Carolina applauds those SC legislators, in boththe Senate and House of Representatives, who worked tirelessly to get S 772and H 4307 passed this legislative session. S 772 was a bill that dealt withhandlebar height restrictions and H 4307 corrected the property tax issuefacing South Carolina motorcycle owners.
Prior to H 4307 passing in the SCstatehouse, motorcycles registered in South Carolina were taxed annually at a10.5% assessment rate while other private, passenger vehicles such as cars andtrucks, were taxed at a 6% assessment rate.
If Governor Mark Sanford signs H4307 into law, South Carolina motorcyclists will no longer pay higher propertytax on their motorcycles than their car and truck counterparts. All will beassessed at 6% annually. It is anticipated that Governor Mark Sanford willsign H 4307 into law. The Governor signed S 772 into law a few weeks ago.

BIG NEWS FOR SMOKE-OUT FANS–Huge news for The HORSE Backstreet Choppers Smoke Out West this week. Billy Lane is building a Knucklehead bobber for this historic first West event. Billy has been a huge part of putting the Horse Smoke Out, Sponsored by Bikernet.com on the map.
When we started the East Coast Horse Smoke Out event years ago- it was all altruistic. We wanted an event for choppers and builders. Billy Lane is obviously a huge star now but he really has not changed in his support for everything Chopper. He has a travel schedule that would kill a mere mortal –so I was just happy as hell to hear he could make it. When I heard that he his building a bike especially for the event, it rocked my world. Some builders talk about their support for the underground chopper world but Billy walks the walk.

COPS COMPARING NOTES ON CLUB RALLY–Wyoming law enforcement officials have been talking with their peers in New Hampshire as they prepare for the arrival of thousands of Hells Angels.The motorcycle gang’s World Run is scheduled to take place July 26 through the 30th in Cody, Wyoming.
Law enforcement agencies have been meeting as often as twice a week to prepare and discuss ways to reduce the the risk of violence.
They’ve also been talking with officials in Laconia and other places where previous Hells Angels events have been held.
The Hells Angels had their 2003 World Run in Laconia.Afterwards, New Hampshire officials described the event as relatively quiet, with just one bar fight reported. Police spent 273-thousand dollars making sure things stayed calm.

PRE-SUNDAY POST-RELIGIOUS MOMENT–Jeff and Mike were killed in an accident. Jeff arrives at the Pearly Gates, and is met by St. Peter.
“Where is my friend Mike?” Jeff asks.
St. Peter replies, “Well, Mike was not as fortunate as you. He went in the other direction instead of getting into Heaven.”
Jeff was bothered by this and asked, “Well, could I see Mike one more time just to be sure he is OK?”
So, Jeff and St. Peter walked over to the edge of Heaven and looked down. There was Mike, on a sandy beach, with a gorgeous sexy blonde in a bikini, and a keg of beer.
“I don’t mean to complain, but Mike seems to have it pretty nice down there in Hell,” says Jeff.
“It’s not as it appears to be,” says St. Peter. “You see, the keg has a hole in it and the blonde doesn’t.”

PETITION FAILS IN BLACK HILLS– Meade County petitioners who sought enough signatures to force a countywide referendum on the Rock’n the Rally at Glencoe CampResort liquor license have indeed fallen short, Auditor Lisa Schieffer confirmed Wednesday.
Schieffer said that she counted 669 names on petitions submitted by Tuesday’s 5 p.m. filing deadline. She said they needed at least 745 signatures to qualify as a ballot measure.
The Bear Butte International Alliance and other liquor license opponents fell short of their own estimates. Shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, the alliance’s Nancy Kile estimated that they had gathered 736 signatures.
They sought to refer the Meade County Commission’s decision on May 2 to issue a new liquor license to Rock’n the Rally owner Gary Lippold. The commission voted 5-0 to issue the license despite strong objections from American Indian groups and some eastern Meade County residents.
Opponents complain that the rally continues to encroach on Bear Butte, which they claim as sacred, and rural eastern Meade County.
Lippold, whose family has owned the Glencoe land south of Bear Butte for 100 years, has operated the Sturgis rally campground there since 1983. This year, he’s adding Rock’n the Rally, a concert venue that will bring national music acts during the annual August event.
Lippold said he needs a liquor license to draw the corporate sponsors and upscale crowds he needs to make the venue a success.
“This is one step in a long process, but it’s very satisfying because I think the citizens of Meade County have spoken,” Lippold said Wednesday after hearing the petition drive had fallen short.
“What the people need to realize is that this venture is going to go on with or without a (liquor) license, and we are going to have music concerts out here,” he added. “We just need to work together and minimize whatever problems there are and quit wasting a bunch of money on lawyers.”
That hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, June 9, at the Meade County Courthouse.
