This is a strange one. Peter Linney shot Karlie Montana, one delightful munchkin, at Gard's LA ChopRods shop. In the process of putting this hot Girl's of Bikernet feature together, we discovered more and more LA ChopRods products developed by Gard. It wasn't enough to focus all of our attention on Karlie's sizzling attributes. We had to share the coverage with Gard's shop and his product line. While Gard endured physical therapy for shoulder surgery, I crept around his shop taking shots of LA ChopRods products not featured on his web site. Gard is one of those amazing builders who is capable of anything from fine welding (he's sponsored by Miller), machining, manufacturing, sheet metal, design and all the mechanical talents. He messed up his shoulder competing in one of the Biker Build-offs. He was heavily involved in the Build of Bust series, and he is currently building a one-off Twin Cam, out-of-the-galaxy custom for Keanu Reeves.
I like Gard's products and style because they have a mechanical edge. He also enjoys designing builder products, like a complete line of cable guides, bungs, oil line guides, top motor mounts, and tank mounting tabs. Gard is not a Hollywood or limelight type. His shop is located on the edge of no place, next to the freeway that rolls into the Los Angeles Harbor, near the Bikernet Interplanetary Headquarters. Gard helped us with the Bikernet 5-Ball Racing Assalt Weapan tank fabrication in 2007. See, I told you he was low-brow.
He's a builder's builder. He's willing to stop whatever he's doing to help fix a car, or design a special tab to hold one of his tanks on a stock frame.
“I can't help it, never could, I love motorcycles,” Gard said. “I didn't do well in school 'cause I drew pictures of motorcycles when I was supposed to be learning about literature or social studies.”
You get the picture. If you need something special for a build, reach out to Gard. If you see something featured here, but it's not on his site, don't hesitate to ask Gard about it. He can make it happen, from special sissy bars, to custom front ends, to his own line of frames.
“We're not idiots, we know it's important to care about educational crap and as we get older we do,” said Gard, “but the point is we can't help our selves, we have to build motorcycles. Lord knows there are easier ways to make a living but at some point, you just have to accept your destiny. We hope you don't think we're stuck up asses for thinking like this, but we consider ourselves artists, we build two wheeled art.”
I think the art aspect is critical here. Building bikes combines art and mechanical function. The whole notion of the wild chopper began because of an unrelenting desire for artistic class over tractor-like function.
“You might like it, you might not, art is subjective,” Gard said, “but this is art you can swing a leg over and get the thrill of your lifetime on!”

Blind Tank Mounting Bung
These Bungs are precision machined in the USA from 1018 Steel which has good welding qualities. Designed for use in mounting Gas and Oil Tanks or whenever the job calls for a blind threaded bung. The design allows it to be installed in a small 1/2″ hole while it's major diameter is 1″ for maximum weld surface. The bung measures 1 1/4″ long, 3/4″ with a 1/2″ diameter, 1/2 inch with a 1″ diameter and a 1″ deep 5/16-18 blind thread. Material can be removed from the 1/2″ X 1″ portion if a thinner height from the install surface is desired. Sold in a 4 or 10 pack.

Crown Gas Cap
An L.A. County Choprods Original. Our Billet Crown gas cap is machined from 6061 billet aluminum and comes in several different finishes, machined, polished, chrome, black nickel, and for all you pimps 24k gold. The cap can be used non-vented or vented by simply removing the stainless steel set screw on the bottom. Also included is a weld in bung (pictured) that can be installed in either direction, one way will position the bung flush with the surface and the other will raise it approximately 3/4″ inch or with our new OEM adapter that allows installation in most '82-'09 HD right hand threads without any welding or paint damage.

Pinche Petrol Gas Tank
Finally The “Pinche” Gas Tank is available to the public. This unique gas tank features an inset panel detail on each side and is designed to mount “Frisco” style (high on the backbone of the frame). The one piece bottom minimizes the chance of leakage and features sunken mounts. You choose one of our gas caps and it's finish.
The standard configuration has the filler bung located right of center at the front of the tank (as pictured) and the petcock bung located on the lower left rear side and accepts any 3/8 NPT petcock.

Hex Fitting Bung
This cool little Hex Bung is precision machined in the USA from 1018 steel which has good welding qualities. Besides just looking cool the unique design allows the bung to be held while tightening the fitting being installed to minimize the stress applied to the vessel it's welded to. Measures approx. 7/8″ total length, the first 3/8″ is 13/16″ diameter round and the remainder is 7/8″ hex with a 1/4 NPT thread in the hex end. Sold in a 4 or 10 pack.

Honey Pot Oil Filter
After more than a year of design, development, testing and manufacturing, our NEW “Honey Pot” oil filter is now available. Inspired by the “Hildebrandt” filters used by the truck and hotrod culture throughout the 50's and 60's and on many a “Choprod”, Gard enlisted the help of Mark “Duckman” van der Kwaak to help us scale it for motorcycle use and improve mounting, lid attachment and overall design.

Knuckle Cap

Mooneyes / Choprods 3 Qrt. Oil Tank
This is the famous Mooneyes 3 quart “Chopper” oil tank but after years of begging we finally got them to configure the fittings to our specifications allowing for better fitting placement when mounted lengthwise as on all “Choprods” that feature this tank.
