LABOR DAY WEEKEND SUNDAY POST FOR SEPTEMBER 2, 2012

Another Sunday Post with no intro from Bandit…  Yesterday he judged the first ever AMD Affiliate Bike Show in association with Harley-Davidson, at the Harley-Davidson Museum He’s there again, but today’s show is called the Ride In Bike Show.

Tobey arrived safely today with both bikes in tow from the BUB meet at Bonneville Salt Flats.  He was pretty disappointed with the performance of both bikes, and the conditions on the salt.  Mother Nature has spoiled many events for bikers, but whaddaya do?  He’s glad he did it, brought a lot of ideas and experience home, and can’t wait to try again next year.

Here’s your Sunday Post—

Anti-biker Law and Order frenzy–

Politicians, police and the media are whipping the Australian state of Victoria into an anti-biker law and order frenzy. Police claim tensions are simmering between clubs as they take on new members and defend their turf.

The Herald Sun newspaper says there have been rising ‘ructions’ between clubs over dozens of defections and ‘numerous’ assaults across the state in the past three years.

The Rebels MC is expanding faster than any of its rivals, but other so-called one percent gangs are also recruiting to add muscle to their ranks. Police have confirmed many new members of the new Melbourne chapter of the Comancheros – are from Middle Eastern and Islander descent.
Many new “patched” bikers are being recruited from kickboxing backgrounds. Gymnasiums have also been linked to prominent Melbourne clubs.

One of Melbourne’s oldest clubs, the Hells Angels, continues to be dominated by Anglo-Saxon members, though it has links to a member of the Chaouk family. ‘Foreign’ clubs attempting to set up in Victoria are also being thwarted. Earlier this year, the Rock Machine, which has a presence in Perth, tried to start a chapter in Melbourne’s southeast but members were allegedly stripped of their colours.

In another incident earlier this year, rivals at a Rebels gathering in Mildura bashed Hells Angels members. In August last year, the Herald Sun reported the United Motorcycle Council (Victoria) was holding meetings to combat new proposed anti-biker laws.

The paper now reports that at least one major club has pulled out of the council, claiming a source said it had become dysfunctional. Victoria’s UMC has not released anything publicly.

Bikernet Religious Moment–

The pastor of this Baptist church had called all of the little children to the front of the church, dressed in their cute Easter outfits and had them sit around him. He said “Today is Easter and you all look so handsome and beautiful. Today we’re going to talk about the resurrection. Does anyone know what the resurrection is?” One little boy raised his hand, and the pastor said “Please tell us what the resurrection is”.

The boy, proud that he knew the answer, said in a clear loud voice “When you get one lasting more than four hours, you gotta call a doctor!”

Though I am Against Mandatory Rider Training–

I am Pleased to see the training being offered in PA at No Cost to those Being Forced To Take It.

I cannot go without asking why the course is Free in PA and a similar Mandatory Course for All Riders regardless of age or experience applying for a Motorcycle Endorsement in Florida is approximately $300.00.

There is money in all vehicle licensing and registration dedicated to Education that should be used for Voluntary Motorcycle Rider Education. In many cases this money is taken and used for other non-motorcycle related issues.

If these mandatory courses are really about Safety & Saving Lives and Not About Making Money Why Do People Have To Pay For Them, especially when they have already been paid for with taxes.

New rules for motorcyclists start Friday
By GREG GROSS

A law that requires young motorcyclists to complete a safety course goes into effect Friday.

Sponsored by state Rep. Seth Grove, R-Dover Township, the law requires all young riders to complete a free basic rider course before they can obtain their junior Class M (motorcycle) license.

“Inexperience is a factor in many crashes involving young drivers. I am hopeful this law will help young riders gain lifesaving knowledge about motor cycle safety,” Grove said.

The bill passed both the House and the Senate earlier this year and was subsequently signed into law by Gov. Tom Corbett.

Course: The law affects only those motorcyclists ages 16 and 17.

Anyone seeking a motorcycle junior driver’s license must first complete a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation-approved safety course.

The 15-hour course is provided free of charge. Anyone under 18 would have to take the course, which highlights areas such as drinking and driving, defensive driving and proper motorcycle techniques.

The 15 hours needed to complete the course will count toward the 65 hours of on-the-road training required by state law for minors seeking a drivers’ license.

“Operating a motorcycle is very different than driving a car. The experience young riders gain from these free courses will better prepare them for the road,” Grove had said.

Dream Chaser Racin’, Janette Thornley had a great weekend at the AHDRA Woodburn Northwest Nitro NationalsPresented by Oak Grove Choppers, Fast Bikes Inc., Mulligans & Moreas she continues to run amazing times in the 2012 AHDRA Championship Series in the Hawaya Racing/Vreeland’s Harley-Davidson Pro Drag class.

Running one test pass Friday night, Thornley out ran her fastest time and mph again, an outstanding 7.315 ET at 179.46 mph. She qualified number two, finished number two and moved up two spots in the national points chase simply thrilling the entire team and family as she was racing 30 miles from her hometown of McMinnville Oregon.

Saturday proved to be an interesting qualifying day as three different racers held the #1 spot throughout the day. Finishing in the #2 spot, Janette ran better with each pass, running a 7.555 ET at 168.00 mph in round one; a 7.465 ET at 171.20 mph in round two; 7.399 ET at 173.27 mph in round three.

Moving into the finals against Dale Niles, Thornley knew it will be a fight to the finish line as they had run within a few hundredths of each other all weekend. Dale’s holeshot took the win with a 7.460 ET at 167.75 mph against Thornley’s 7.415 ET at 166.88 mph. Just not off the line quick enough to pull off the win for Dream Chaser Racin’.

“Dale and I always run a close race, last race losing by .0549 of a second and this race losing by .0342, Dale actually won by a hole-shot” said Thornley, “I’ve got to fine tune my reaction time so I capture the next win!”

The weekend didn’t go without its bike challenges as the team had to chase down 3 separate issues, 2 of which were on elimination day. First – melting a drive belt, second – an ignition switch failure, and then a broken wire almost made her miss the semi-final round.

“The team really pulled together to get me going” said Janette “it’s amazing how quick they all jumped in to find the problem and tackle it, I love the team, their knowledge, and appreciate all they continue to do for me”.

HARLEY NHRA TEAM DEBUTS HARD CANDY CUSTOM™ AT INDY–Hines and Krawiec to Ride Metal Flake V-Rod® Bikes at NHRA U.S. Nationals

The Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines drag racing team will bring extra style to the starting line at the Mac Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals on Labor Day weekend when riders Andrew Hines and Ed Krawiec debut Harley-Davidson® V-Rod®  Pro Stock motorcycles with Hard Candy Custom™ paint schemes.

Just launched for the 2013 motorcycle model year, the Hard Candy Custom movement embraces a trend that’s reemerged from garages around the globe; dazzling metal flake paint, brilliant chrome, and styling details in accessories, gear and apparel that are simultaneously current and nostalgic. Hard Candy Custom elements include the “big flake” paint finishes that will adorn the Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod drag bikes at the U.S. Nationals; Hard Candy Lucky Green Flake will appear on the bike raced by Hines through the end of the 2012 season, while Krawiec will race at Indy on a V-Rod sprayed with Hard Candy Purple Flake. During the month of October, Krawiec will display the team’s support of breast cancer awareness month by racing in a special Hard Candy Pink Flake color. Krawiec will then close out the season on a bike painted with Hard Candy Purple Flake paint.

“Hard Candy Custom is old-school cool,” said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Kris Schoonover. “Fans who have been following the NHRA for a long time might even remember when colors like these with the sparkle of metal flake were first popular in the early 1970s. It’s a look that young customizers have rediscovered, and it’s going to be fun to take a break from our traditional black, silver and orange for awhile and race in these dramatic colors that we have just introduced on some of our new motorcycles.”

The Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle®/Vance & Hines team arrives at Indy leading the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle division, with Krawiec and Hines first and second in points respectively. The team is undefeated in nine events in 2012, and has a winning streak of 11 races dating back to 2011. Krawiec, the defending Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, has won in the finals six times, including the last three events in a row. Hines has won three times, but the team is looking for its first win at Indy since 1999.

The 58th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals take place Aug. 29 – Sept. 3 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Ind.

Harley-Davidson Motor Company produces heavyweight custom, cruiser and touring motorcycles and offers a complete line of Harley-Davidson motorcycle parts, accessories, riding gear and apparel, and general merchandise. For more information, visit www.harley-davidson.com.

The End–  I hope you enjoy this Labor Day holiday weekend.
