AUSTRALIAN BIKERS GET TOUGH ON CHILD ABUSE– South Australian bikers are using the fear often associated with their image to protect and bring comfort to abused children. The South Australian chapter of “Bikers Against Child Abuse” – a worldwide organisation – has since 2006 been quietly protecting children and teenagers who would otherwise be living in fear.
Recognised by SA Police, the group offers 24-hour care to children or families who seek assistance after a report of abuse has been lodged.
BACA president, known as “Krash”, said although they don’t advocate violence, members would do “what it takes” to take away a child’s fears.
“Our single, narrow focus is to remove the fear from those children who are victims of abuse,” he said. “We allow them to stand up, have their say and take the steps required to go from being a victim to being a survivor (and) to make these kids feel like somebody gives a damn about them.”
Members need a police clearance to join and then complete a probation before being “patched”.
SA Police Media Director Shelaye Boothey said police had not worked with BACA but she was “not aware” of concerns over its work.
“Crime Gangs Taskforce are unaware that they’ve ever arrested, pinched, or anything … a member of BACA. There’s no suggestion they are an outlaw gang,” she said. “(But) if you believe or have any thought that a child is being harmed in any way … call police.”
BACA began in Utah, in the US in 1995 when psychologist J. P “Chief” Lilly realised children needed protection after they left his office. It has more than 30 US chapters and others in Victoria, WA and NSW. SA members regularly sit in court when children testify against abusers.
“If we have a child in need, we will camp in their front yard for a couple of nights so they can get a good night’s sleep,” Krash said. “The days leading up to court can be a trying time for them, (thinking about) sitting in front of a bunch of people and reliving probably the most terrifying moment of their life.”
BACA and its work is supported by the general motorcycle population and has the support of the UMCSA.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY EXTENSIVE ECONOMIC PROJECTION STUDY–
After I spoke with Arlin Fatland, the owner of Denver, Sturgis, and Daytona 2Wheelers, in Sturgis, I started to monitor the economy, based on his down projections about this Winter. Don Hotop said September would be telling or the sign-post regarding the Winter. If his shop, Don’s Speed and Sports, Fort Madison, Iowa, maintained a positive business flow through September, the Winter would not be bad. As it turned out September was a strong month. Lee Clemens from Departure Bike Works, in Richmond reported that this September has been his best Sept. in several years. Sounds like a good omen, or the financial gods are with us.

A WARRIOR’S THOUGHTS–You are on a Horse, galloping at a constant speed. On your right side is a sharp drop off. And on your left side is an Elephant traveling at the same speed as you.
Directly in front of you is a galloping Kangaroo and your horse is unable to overtake it.
Behind you is a Lion running at the same speed as you and the Kangaroo.
What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation?

DARK HORSE FOR TWIN CAM LOWER ENDS–There are two companies specializing in rebuilding twin cam lower ends. Word from the builders is that new factory lower ends are junk, and you’ll be lucky if they last 40,000 miles. The earlier cranks, from 2000 to 2005 are rebuildable.
I spoke to John at Dark Horse recently and he told me about his extensive rebuilding, spot welding, truing, rods with races, and balancing process. He balances and make your flywheels perfect for whatever engine configuration you have.

Re: Trademark Rights of the Crazy Horse Foundation
Your File No. CRAZ.129CRAA Our File No. 3530.7.2
Dear Ms. Byrne:
As mentioned in our previous email, we represent Rolling Thunder LLC, Crazy Horse Motorcycles LLC and John White (collectively referred to herein as “our client”) regarding intellectual property matters. Your letter of September 12, 2007 has been forwarded to us for evaluation and response.
You may be aware that our client maintains its own portfolio of intellectual property. Consequently, our client honors the legitimate rights of others and expects others to likewise honor its rights. In fact, our client owns a federal registration in the word mark CRAZY HORSE in two International Classes. (See, U.S. Registration No. 3,220,548 for motorcycle helmets; motorcycle goggles; motor vehicles, namely motorcycles; and motorcycle accessories, namely tires, motorcycle saddlebags, fenders, chain guards, chains, sissy bars, and windshields).
Although we can appreciate the concerns voiced in your letter, we believe them to be misplaced. We have carefully reviewed your letter and considered what you allege to be the scope of your client’s rights. We note that there are several CRAZY HORSE marks and marks prominently using the term CRAZY HORSE that are registered (most being incontestable) and/or used by others that significantly curtail the scope of the rights you are asserting. The list below is a sampling of what was found in a brief search of the U.S. Patent and Trademark website.
Additionally, the following list (not listed but extensive) shows others that claim some trademark interest in the mark CRAZY HORSE or a mark containing CRAZY HORSE.
Accordingly, we believe that your client’s trademark/service mark rights have a limited scope and certainly do not qualify as a “famous” mark as contemplated under the Federal Dilution Act. Although, your client may have an affinity towards motorcycle enthusiasts because many visit the Crazy Horse Memorial annually and they are generous with their donations, that does not translate to trademark rights in motorcycles or motorcycle accessories. Furthermore, I am sure that most, if not all, of the motorcycle enthusiasts that visit the Crazy Horse Memorial also visit Mt. Rushmore, yet that does not create trademark rights in motorcycles and motorcycle accessories for the National Park Service.
You noted in your letter that your client owns several federally registered copyrights. However, we do not understand your letter to assert any claim that any of those rights have been violated by our clients. As John White informed you, our client’s website has an open forum format that members of the public can post comments and photos. Certainly, such postings are fair use. Nevertheless, the photo that was posted on the site that showed the Crazy Horse Memorial sculpture in the background for which you expressed concern was not posted by our clients and has been removed, per your request.
light of the foregoing and our client’s federal registration in the mark CRAZY HORSE, our client respectfully declines to accede to your request that they “phase out all use of the CRAZY HORSE trademark on [their] website, on decals, on engines, on motorcycles, on promotional materials, etc.”
If you believe that specific rights have been violated, we invite you to identify them specifically so that we can address them. Absent a clear assertion of a right you believe has been violated, we will consider this matter closed.
Sincerely yours, MADSON & AUSTIN

BILL MAY BIKE PROJECT REPORT–Here are some pics of my latest. I built this evo ridgid from a bunch of pieces My friend Robert scored in Tulsa. He was told it was a Pat Kennedy Frame. I deduced that someone took a V-Twin replica knucklehead frame and cut it up until it would take an Evo and a wide tire. The rear wheel is a car type 16-inch rim with 80 spokes. That might be an early Pat Kennedy item.
Anyway with enough shimming and grinding I built a bike . The Flying tiger airbrush work is the work of my friend Wesley Creach. He is my neighbor out here and is getting really good at painting bikes. I will send you some shots of more of his work soon. The ’77 Sportster is mine. I scored it for 500 dollars with the top end off.
I have it listed for $3200 now but things are not moving well at all. I am moving back to Vegas soon and maybe even So Cal or Ariz.

NEW SCREAMIN’ EAGLE CAM CHAIN TENSIONER AND OIL PUMP UPGRADE– Add the Latest Hydraulic Cam Chain Tensioner Design to a Twin Cam 88 Engine.
MILWAUKEE (September 28, 2011) The new Screamin’ Eagle Hydraulic Cam Chain Tensioner and High-Flow Oil Pump Upgrade Kit (P/N 25284-11, $499.95) from Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Accessories updates the cam chain tensioner of a Twin Cam 88 engine to the latest hydraulic design features on Twin Cam 96 and 103 engines.
The hydraulic cam chain tensioner is significantly more durable than the original spring-loaded tensioner, and is an ideal addition to an engine modified for improved performance. 2002-2006 models utilize a Twin Cam 96 single-row front roller chain and sprocket. 1999-2001 models use the Original Equipment front silent chain and sprocket to retain the cam position sensor function.
Each kit includes an improved Screamin’ Eagle High-Flow Oil Pump that provides increased oil pressure at high-operating temperatures. This kit increases the oil supply by 23 percent and scavenging by 50 percent when compared to the 1999-2005 Original Equipment oil pump, and reduces operating temperature of bearings to improve bearing life.
Fits 1999-2005 Dyna models, 2000-2006 Softail® models and 1999-2006 Touring models. Installation requires separate purchase of Spacer Kit P/N 25285-08, Cam Service Kit P/N 17045-99D and Drive Gear Retention Kit P/N 25533-99A.

Racing chassis VJM1-05 has been wonderfully hand-painted by world-renowned motorsport artist Dexter Brown and signed by an illustrious collection of respected Formula One figures and other important dignitaries.
Driven at 16 of the 18 2008 Formula One World Championship races*, the car covered over 13,000kms at historic and modern racing circuits such as Monaco and Singapore, with the renowned driver Giancarlo Fisichella at the wheel.
“When I was approached to paint an Art Car, I was immediately excited by the project as it’s the first time I’ve had the chance to work with a modern Formula One car,” explains artist Dexter Brown. “Painting the car was an interesting challenge because I had to work around the complex bodywork. It’s great to be involved in such a unique project and I look forward to seeing how much it can raise for these two great causes.”

UNCLE MONKEY REPORT FROM H-D DEALERSHIPS– Reports are coming in that Harley-Davidson is threatening to take away dealer’s franchises if they continue to sell to independent shops and online. They are also demanding that dealers stop selling discounted or wholesale parts to independent shops and want VIN’s for ordered parts. They have threatened to fine dealers $5,000 for selling hard parts to independent shop, and $10,000 for the second offence.
The problem has many sides. First Harley is trying to protect local dealers so that they can compete with the mega dealers in the larger centers. The problem in doing so is that Harley is protecting dealers that should not be in business. Locally, most riders go several hours and hundreds of miles out of their way to deal with flexible facilities who house a complete inventory. Why? It breaks down to dollars and cents. One dealer regularly sells his bikes a couple of thousand of dollars cheaper. It is not uncommon in this economy to wheel and deal for the absolute best price. In Canada dealerships buy from Deely.
The second comes from dealers unwilling to be competitive in their own market. I have personally seen the local service writers tell customers to buy new bikes because they don’t work on old ones; most of the bikes were about five years old. Now those dealers are mad because those customers have gone elsewhere to have their bikes fixed.
The American V-twin aftermarket has come a long way from the late sixties and early seventies, from only a handful of parts to now being able to build complete motorcycles from catalogs. That does not mean independent shops still don’t lean on dealers to order genuine Harley Davidson parts from time to time. The aftermarket does not cover everything, but they will, if this continues, but if we can get a good part from the dealer down the street for an economical price we will. Personally I’m building my aftermarket V-twin and if and when I do think about buying new – I’ll look towards Victory and Indian.

MOTORCYCLISTS SUE OVER ENFORCEMENT OF NEVADA’S HELMET LAW– Twelve motorcycle riders filed a class action lawsuit Tuesday against Clark County and five cities within the county, charging arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement of Nevada’s helmet law.
The suit filed in U.S. District Court names as defendants the county and the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Mesquite; and Boulder City.
If certified as a class, the suit could represent more than 40,000 motorcycle riders in the county.
The suit, filed by Las Vegas attorney Travis Barrick, charges “defendants, through their agents, have an ongoing pattern and practice of issuing helmet tickets to the class members that are not supported by constitutionally sufficient probable cause, thereby violating the civil rights of the class members.”
This violates the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution barring unreasonable search and seizure, the lawsuit says.
The suit also alleges violations of the 14th Amendment protections against arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement, charging the defendants, through their agents, “have an ongoing pattern and practice of dismissing helmet tickets when contested in the courts or appealed to the courts, thereby denying the class members their due process rights to challenge enforcement of the Nevada Helmet Law.”
The suit also alleges there’s a disparity in fines and fees for helmet law violations with no rational basis for the disparities; and that the helmet law is enforced “as a pretext for invading the liberties and civil rights” of the class members.
Barrick wasn’t available to elaborate on the allegations and the defendants have not yet responded to the lawsuit.
Efforts over the years to repeal Nevada’s 1972 law requiring motorcycle riders to wear helmets as a safety measure have failed, most recently this year.

So much to report and so little time, no matter how it’s measured. By the second, the minutes or tenths of a thousands of an inch when completing precise alignments. So, burnin daylight is not much of an an option these days, it’s full speed ahead with both eyes locked into the future.
Here’s part of the 2012 plan that’s not top secret.
With the 2012 Racing season closing in like greased lightning striking the side of a slippery rocky mountain our goals will be etched in a pool of blood, sweat and Land Speed Racing Gears here at Bikernet headquarters.
Here’s a quick report straight from one of the Team’s premier engineers.
Meet a close friend and a known associate for many years, Mr. Randy Torgeson of HYPERFORMANCE, in Pleasant Hills, Iowa. Randy is handling the 124″ Twin Cam build. www.kingofcubes.com
Randy is starting with a fresh set of S&S Super Stock cases, an R&R rebuilt fly wheel assembly that’s plugged, welded and balanced, CP Pistons, S&S gear drive cams, billet oil pump, R&R Stage 5 billet heads, R&R roller rockers with a few more bits and pieces thrown in for the long haul. We’ll go into detail in further reports.
Successfully ran this 124″ combination coast to coast, drag strip and set two records at Bonneville in 2009 running a set of H-D cases well over 75,000 miles before a complete tear down. The last 5,000 miles we added a Turbo charger.
97-inch Twin Cam for the street
We’re using my tried and trued H-D cases that are well seasoned and completely re-manufactured, once again Randy at Hyperformance performed the magic.
The cases are now in Signal Hill, Ca at Bennett’s Performance shop where Eric and his crew will finish the street build. Yes, Branch headworks are next door to Bennett’s. My trusty sweetheart, my therapist and damn good friend, the Dyna is gonna be a bad ass hot rod one more time with the latest cam plate (featured here in the news) from Harley-Davidson, and a 97-inch kit including barrels and pistons from RevTech.
We’ll keep you posted.

CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL–reports decline in motorcycle-involved collisions, injuries.
The California Highway Patrol reports that a two-year, federally funded program to increase motorists’ awareness of motorcyclists on California roadways appears to have paid off with a decline in the number of collisions involving motorcycles.
Preliminary figures for 2010 from the CHP’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records system show that the number of people killed in motorcycle-involved collisions last year was down 9 percent from the previous year, according to a CHP news release. The number of people injured in motorcycle-involved collisions appears to be down 8.5 percent.
Throughout the campaign, the CHP has emphasized the “Share the Road” message. To help convey that message to the motoring public, officials said, the CHP held several presentations and conducted several highly publicized motorcycle safety enforcement operations.
The CHP, in conjunction with the California Department of Transportation, arranged to display “Share the road – Look twice for motorcyclists” on changeable message signs on highways statewide on several occasions throughout the term of the grant.
Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic safety Administration.

POLICE raids against a newly-formed South Australian chapter of the Comancheros bikie gang have netted cash, weapons and drugs– Crime Gangs Task Force officers who led 160 officers on coordinated early morning raids on 34 properties across Adelaide seized various firearms, a crossbow, flick knife, illegal batons, bayonets, stun guns and $135,000 cash obtained from drug trafficking.
The firearms included a .357 calibre revolver, a .45 pistol, a .22 pistol, a .25 semi-automatic handgun and four rifles plus ammunition. One of the pistols was loaded and equipped with a laser sighter.
Assistant Commissioner Grant Stevens said police suspected one of the handguns was used in a bikie shooting on September 17 when a man suffered a wound to his groin.
Police seized 1kg of dried cannabis and 22 marijuana plants, 2000 steroid tablets and about 30 vials of liquid steroids, glass equipment, chemicals and a recipe for making illegal drugs.
Computers, 27 mobile phones and fireworks were also seized and three Comancheros arrested – one believed to be the Sergeant at Arms – plus another male member, who was reported.
Assistant Commissioner Stevens said the raids should act as a warning to all outlaw motorcycle gang members but especially the Comancheros.
“Crime Gangs Taskforce focuses on all outlaw motorcycle gangs,” he said.
“Our ongoing investigation on this particular occasion relates to the Comancheros”.
“We are aware of their endeavours to establish themselves in South Australia and this is the sort of attention that anybody with this sort of endeavour (illegal) should be expecting to receive from the SA Police.”
The Comancheros are based in the eastern states but several former New Boys street gang members, including leader Vince Focarelli, joined the notorious outlaw bikie gang late last year.
Those arrested and charged with various drugs, firearms or unlawful possession offences were a Prospect man, 27, a Hindmarsh Island woman, 26, a Parafield Gardens man, 26, a Klemzig man, 31, an Enfield man, 45, a Clarence Gardens man, 26, a Henley Beach South man, 46, a Torrensville man, 51, an Adelaide man, 49, and a man, 36, of Fulham.
Additionally, police reported a male, 28, for possessing prescribed drugs and equipment and carrying an offensive weapon and a Burton man, 40, for cultivating cannabis.

Hiro Koiso Racing, engine builder / tuner at Red Rock H-D in Las Vegas NV, Hiro Koiso returned to the salt at the 2011 BUB Speed Trials.
“This year’s preparation was tough but it was all worth it.” Hiro commented. Not only started out by recovering the bike – and himself – from a crash in the 2010 racing event, also the race engine was stolen from the shop in May 2011. “I was so glad to be back on the salt to redeem myself.”

BIKETOBERFEST AT A GLANCE–
WHAT: the Volusia-Flagler area’s 19th annual fall biker rally
WHEN: Oct. 13-16, with some participating businesses hosting events earlier in the week
ANTICIPATED ATTENDANCE: 125,000 visitors
EXPECTED ECONOMIC IMPACT: $214 million
DAYTONA BEACH — Biketoberfest will rumble into the Volusia-Flagler area in less than three weeks, bringing an estimated 125,000 visitors and $214 million to the local economy.
But two years after the recession officially ended, local businesses worry that a still-shaky economy could keep the area’s fall biker rally from becoming a roaring success. This year’s Biketoberfest event will be Oct. 13-16. Don’t miss 2Wheelers on Main Street.
John Seibel, the owner of Thunder Gulch Campground in Bunnell, said reservations for campsites at his park are pacing about the same as last year, but he’s not optimistic that attendance for this year’s Biketoberfest will exceed last year’s turnout.
“Those who still have jobs — and a lot of our biker guys don’t — are worried,” Seibel said. “That’s what drives recessions really is the attitude about the future, and you get real careful about how you spend money when you’re not sure about the future.”
Steve Fritze, general manager of the Iron Horse Saloon in Ormond Beach, echoed those concerns.
“We always do pretty well up here because people want to come up here, but who knows what the economy’s doing,” he said.
Georgia Turner, director of specialized markets for the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, said she’s been impressed with the advance interest in this year’s Biketoberfest. Over the past few days, fans of the Daytona Beach Facebook page have grown from 8,500 to almost 10,000, she said.
The visitors bureau is the official organizer of Biketoberfest.
Turner said she believes this year’s Biketoberfest will draw more international visitors, as opposed to just drawing from Florida and Georgia. She said she also expects to see more women participate in the biker rally, as has been the trend in recent years.
“More women are riding, and not just on the back,” she said.
Shelly Rossmeyer Pepe, the licensed Harley-Davidson dealer at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona complex on U.S. 1, just north of Ormond Beach, said she was excited about the free concert her dealership will be hosting Oct. 15 with classic rock band Blue Oyster Cult.
In addition to their usual Biketoberfest events, Rossmeyer Pepe and her family will also reopen their original Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson store in downtown Daytona Beach, which has been closed since April. The location on Beach Street will reopen next month as a Harley-Davidson accessories retail store without the motorcycle dealership, although it will sell bikes during Biketoberfest. A motorcycle history museum is planned to open on the property early next year.
“We’re just getting that in by the skin of our teeth, but definitely by Biketoberfest . . . when you walk into that store now, it will be a whole different look than what you’re used to,” Rossmeyer Pepe said.
Although many worry about the economy, some area businesses have a bright outlook for this year’s Biketoberfest.
Jim Gallagher, the owner of Mid Florida Sportswear in Daytona Beach, is contracted to produce the official T-shirts and other related merchandise for Biketoberfest. He said he’s optimistic because T-shirt orders his company has received via the Internet and from area businesses are pacing a little bit ahead of last year.
“From prebookings, I do a lot of the bars and places like that, and a lot of them seem to be buying more than they did last year,” Gallagher said.
Joe Maniscalco, general manager of the Best Western Castillo Del Sol in Ormond Beach, said his advance bookings are up 10 percent from this time last year.
“I think it’s getting better. I really do,” he said.
“We’re even getting bookings for Bike Week a lot in advance now, too,” Maniscalco said, referring to the larger annual motorcycle rally that takes place here in March. “Usually they don’t start booking until January.”
Don Seeley, head of the Daytona Beach Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) said he is hopeful that bikers won’t be deterred by money worries and that the crowds will come out for this year’s Biketoberfest.
“Fuel prices are down a bit,” he said. “This horrible economy is getting so mundane that I think people are learning to deal with it.”

EASYRIDERS V-TWIN AFTERMARKET COMMITTEE REPORT FROM THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION– I have been working for four years to create an aftermarket group to support motorcyclists’ rights and our industry. I had meetings with the MIC and for awhile considered a group under the SEMA umbrella. I felt it would benefit SEMA, the Hot Rod industry, and our industry. I also felt it afforded the aftermarket an expanded venue to sell products and build resources.
That’s too bad, since I still believe the show would have benefited, in addition to the aftermarket, and the industry, but oh well. So I took my notion to the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), which is a purely legislative organization in Washington, D.C. Their membership includes riders, freedom fighters, and state motorcycle rights organizations all over the country. They work closely with groups in Europe. The MRF is all about our freedoms. We plan to have our first official meeting at the Cincinnati, V-Twin Dealer Show in February. More membership info, and committee reports will be posted shortly.
Keep in mind this is all about helping motorcycling, the rider, the builder, the enthusiast, the shop, everything motorcycling. I would still entertain working with SEMA. Hell, I would work with any group, if it will make our voice stronger. Hang on for more news in the near future.

BIKERNET MOVIE THEATER MATINEE PROBLEM–A drunken cowboy lay sprawled across three entire seats in the posh Amarillo Theater. When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the cowboy, ‘Sorry, sir, but you’re only allowed one seat.’
The cowboy groaned but didn’t budge. The usher became more impatient:
‘Sir, if you don’t get up from there I’m going to have to call the manager.’
Once again, the cowboy just groaned. The usher marched briskly back up the aisle, and in a moment he returned with the manager. Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move the cowboy, but with no success.
Finally they summoned the police. The Texas Ranger surveyed the situation briefly then asked, ‘All right buddy what’s your name?’
‘Fred,’ the cowboy moaned.
‘Where ya from, Fred?’ asked the Ranger.
With terrible pain in his voice, and without moving a muscle, Fred replied,….the balcony…

BIKERNET ENGLISH DEPARTMENT VOCABULARY CLASS–portend por-TEND, verb:
To indicate (events, misfortunes, etc.) as in future; to foreshadow; to bode.
Although no humans were there to witness the giant comet of 65 million years ago, in this case it really did portend disaster.
— Walter Alvarez, T. Rex and the Crater of Doom
With mortal crisis doth portend
My days to appropinque an end.
— Samuel Butler, Hudibras. Part i. Canto iii. Line 589
I see five separate moving clouds of dust; they portend some sort of magic.
— Laurie Fox, My Sister from the Black Lagoon: A Novel of My Life
Many signs portended a dark and stormy day.
— Macaulay
Portend comes from Latin portendere, to indicate, to predict, from por- (variant of pro-), before + tendere, to stretch out, to spread. Thus that which portends is that which stretches out before us into the future.

San Jose: Family and friends mourn local Hells Angel president– Police are preparing for hundreds, perhaps thousands of bikers expected to ride into Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose sometime next month to honor the memory of Jeff “Jethro” Pettigrew, the president of the city’s Hells Angels chapter who was shot to death in a gun battle at a Sparks casino.
There will be Henchmen, East Side Riders Car Club, Devil Dolls, Top Hatters and more. Alongside them, also paying their respects, will be members of the South Yard Heavy Equipment Crew. That is not a motorcycle club. It is the San Jose Department of Transportation’s pavement repair team. They knew Pettigrew from his day job. To them, he was not the local president of a biker club that law enforcement sees as a
violent criminal motorcycle gang. He was as a veteran backhoe operator who paved potholes.
Hans Larsen, director of the city’s Department of Transportation, said he was not even aware that Pettigrew was a Hells Angel. Nor did he care. “We have many employees who are motorcycle enthusiasts. What they do in their private lives doesn’t concern us as long as it doesn’t affect their work,” Hansen said. “From what I am hearing he was a nice person with a good attitude, very professional in his work and he did it well.”
Funeral arrangements are still being made. And Pettigrew’s shooting death Friday night at John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino, which has law enforcement on high alert for a brewing bloodshed between clubs.

IT’S A WRAP–We need to throw some shit in bags and cut a dusty trail for the border. Since, by order of the Queen of Bikernet, I am responsible for the Sunday Post news in the Cantina, I must return to the Wilmington ghetto on Sunday to bring you the news.
But then I’ll return to my post on Monday and start on the Jim Murillo feature shot by Peter Linney. I’m sure I will return with a Vegas Bikefest report, the girls and bikes for Bikefest, and then we’ll move back into the shop. Just a couple more items, and we can wire the first Mudflap Girl bike and go for a ride. Hang on.
