Bob Illingworth

Motorcycle world loses a friend with the passing of Bob Illingworth– The motorcycle world lost a good friend when Bob Illingworth passed after living courageously with cancer for almost 4 years. Illingworth, 68, passed peacefully at home in Minneapolis, Minnesota on the morning of March 24, 2009.

Illingworth was well-known in the tight-knit motorcycle community as a guy with boundless energy who made things happen. His passion for life led him to the excitement of motorcycle racing in his early years, and later, his charisma made him successful as a motorcycle dealership owner. His path also brought him into the lives of young people struggling with alcohol and drug addictions during his years as a substance abuse counselor in Minnesota.

Illingworth is probably best known, however, for his motorcycle lobbying efforts. In an era when motorcycling was seen as a somewhat counter-culture activity, Bob bridged the gap between bikers and lawmakers, successfully fighting federal and state anti-cycling laws. He was a founder of the Minnesota Motorcycle Riders Association (MMRA), which he directed for over 30 years. His influence went far beyond Minnesota, as he advised grassroots groups all over the country on how to navigate legislation against motorcycling. He worked with Minnesota state government to establish the Motorcycle Safety Advisory Committee, which developed motorcycle safety programs and helped determine funding sources. He also acted as an advisor to several Minnesota governors on motorcycling issues.

As a longtime member of Hamsters, USA, Illingworth was part of a worldwide community of influential motorcyclists. He led charitable efforts for the organization, including fundraising projects for Children?s Care Hospital & School of South Dakota, which he became involved with through Sturgis Motorcycle Rally connections.

His influence helped Children?s Care raise over $600,000 for children with special needs served by Children?s Care in Rapid City. (a Children?s Care blog in honor of Bob is at www.cchs.org/blog/bob) Illingworth was honored with the first Founders Award issued by the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame in recognition of his efforts to establish the museum. During the last Sturgis Rally, he was honored with a Hamsters USA Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition, he also received the Annual Chrome Heart Award from Children?s Care Hospital & School, recognizing an individual in the motorcycle world whose philanthropic support and civic duty represents everything positive in the motorcycle industry.

Bob had asked that memorials in his honor be directed to Children’s Care Hospital & School, 2501 West 26th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57105. Memorials may also be made online by clicking on www.cchs.org/tribute

This is our donation to what appears to become a nationwide hit to raise money, we (Adrian Beyeler, the Goldsmith @ www. abey.ch & Mario@MBLeathers.com) designed some killer pinstriped buckles made from pure sterling silver (well worth over 1200 USD) and a SPECIAL TOOL BAG (which contains our special: a hidden handmade damast steel knive)

knife

We also create SPECIAL Belts & Wallets (with built in hidden knives) The tooling of the design based on the dios de la muerte took me ages, and i really did my best job so far.

We would appreciate to get you buying some raffle tickets and check out this amazing bike on 2 nd May in San Diego or at the smoke out.

Two Concealed Carry Reform Bills Introduced in the Golden State!– Two Right-to-Carry reform bills have been introduced this legislative session in Sacramento.

Assembly Bill 357 , sponsored by Assembly Member Steve Knight (R-36), would create a “shall issue” concealed handgun permit system in California. Under current law, an applicant must show cause as to why they should be issued a permit to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense. AB357 would remove that stipulation and require sheriffs to issue the license if all other mandated criteria are satisfied. This bill has been referred to the Assembly Committee on Public Safety but no hearing has been scheduled.

Assembly Bill 1167 , introduced by Assembly Member Jim Nielsen (R-2), would require that the California Department of Justice enter into reciprocity agreements with other states so that permit holders in California can exercise their self-defense rights while traveling and permit holders from recognized states can carry while in California. AB1167 has not yet been assigned to a committee. Please continue checking your email and www.NRAILA.org for updates on AB357 and AB1167.

ANTIQUE MOTORCYCLE CLUB OF AMERICA DRIVE TO RECRUIT YOUNGER MEMBERS AND WIN A VINTAGE H-D– I just got a steering dampener in the mail today for the project. It was donated by Mark Greshner from Canada, I think that it is a nice piece, needs a little straightening, but that is the point. The cool thing about getting a donation from Canada, is the fact that we can say that the contest is an international effort to get kids excited about old bikes.

Just click on the banner below and check out how you or your kids can win a 45 flathead by entering the essay contest.

CPKustoms

SEAT OF THE WEEK– Chuck Palumbo is a former WWE pro wrestler that has teamed up with Bruce Barker to form CP Kustoms in San Diego, Cali and build Hot Rod Choppers. I volunteered my services after reading a article in The Horse Chopper Magazine that they were doing a build and then raffling it off. Basically they are going to build it, ride it to the Smokeout 10, and raffle it off. It’s a pretty simple concept that benefits so much to our protectord of the good ole’ USA.

Chuck sent me a seat pan that Fab Kevin donated, and I believe is indestructible, plus it has a really nice shape. I used one of CP Kustoms logos, added some flames, and a pin striping design that I got from one of the all time greatest pin stripers, Bobbo Dunn at Bobbs Arts and Lettering out in New Mexico. I met him at a local car show, great guy with a resume that not very many people have, but would die for.

I think it is very important that I do what I can to support our Military, and I knew CP Kustoms would get plenty of other support from artists, builders, and other businesses, even though our economy is shit right now.

Please go to www.cpkustoms.com and buy some raffle tickets for your chance to win a custom chopper. And remember this will support YOUR Military men and women!
