Cowboy CODE OF THE WEST Rules– Rules of TEXAS, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and the rest of the Wild West are as follows:
1. Pull your pants up. You look like an idiot.
2. Turn your cap right, your head ain’t crooked.
3. Let’s get this straight: it’s called a ‘gravel road.’ I drive a pickup truck because I want to. No matter how slow you drive, you’re gonna get dust on your Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way.
4. They are cattle. That’s why they smell like cattle. They smell like money to us. Get over it. Don’t like it? I-70, I-80 & I-90 go east and west, I-25 & I-15, I-29 goes north and south. Pick one and go.
5. So you have a $60,000 car. We’re impressed. We have $250,000 Combines that are driven only 3 weeks a year.
6. Every person in the Wild West waves. It’s called being friendly. Try to understand the concept.
7. If that cell phone rings while a bunch of geese/pheasants/ducks/doves are comin’ in during the hunts, we WILL shoot it outa your hand. You better hope you don’t have it up to your ear at the time.
8. Yeah. We eat trout, salmon, deer and elk. You want sushi and caviar? It’s available at the corner bait shop.
9. The ‘Opener’ refers to the first day of deer season. It’s religious holiday held the closest Saturday to the first of November.
10. We open doors for women. That’s applied to all women, regardless of age.
11. No, there’s no ‘vegetarian special’ on the menu. Order steak, or you can order the Chef’s Salad and pick off the 2 pounds of ham and turkey.
12. When we fill out a table, there are three main dishes: meats, vegetables, and breads. We use three spices: salt, pepper, and ketchup! Oh, yeah . . We don’t care what you folks in Cincinnati call that stuff you eat . . IT AIN’T REAL CHILI!!
13. You bring ‘Coke’ into my house, it better be brown, wet and served over ice. You bring ‘Mary Jane’ into my house, she better be cute, know how to shoot, drive a truck, and have long hair.
14. College and High School Football is as important here as the Giants, the Yankees, the Mets, the Lakers and the Knicks, and a dang site more fun to watch.
15. Yeah, we have golf courses. But don’t hit the water hazards – it spooks the fish.
16. Turn down that blasted car stereo! That thumpity-thump crap ain’t music, anyway. We don’t want to hear it anymore than we want to see your boxers! Refer back to #1!

The Legendary Buffalo Chip Announces Theme of 9th Annual Motorcycles as Art Exhibition presented by Michael Lichter– Sturgis, SD (May 1, 2009) The theme of Michael Lichter’s 9th annual Motorcycles as Art Exhibition during the Sturgis Rally this year will focus on history and motorcycle icons. The exhibit will be presented at the new Lichter Exhibition Hall on the grounds of The Legendary Buffalo Chip. Although there are many “iconic” symbols that have defined motorcycle culture, this year’s exhibition entitled “Rebel Rousers – Motorcycle Icons that Inspired Us to Ride” will remind Sturgis rally-goers what motorcycle icons may have fueled their passion for ride through a stunning review of world-class motorcycles, art and movie memorabilia.

While the word “icon” has come to mean “someone or something widely and uncritically admired” and is often used synonymously for “fame,” “renown” or “legend” in our celebrity-driven culture, this exhibition will attempt to recapture some of the original sense of the word “icon” as it refers to symbols and revered images. On display will be motorcycles, from Captain America and Billy bike to Dave Mann’s Ghostrider, and memorable images like Rollie Free flying down the salt, as well as posters and stills from films like The Wild One, On Any Sunday and Easy Rider. All of the objects in the show have in some way become sacred to bikers. They have inspired — and will continue to inspire — the devotion of enthusiasts.
In addition to looking back, the exhibit will look at contemporary images and bikes that may be considered iconic to future generations of bikers, such as films from Biker Boyz to The Worlds Fastest Indian, and motorcycles like Jesse James’ “Camel Bike” and Indian Larry’s “Wild Child” BBO bike.
The Legendary Buffalo Chip has built “The Lichter Exhibition Hall” which is a 7,000-square-foot facility designed to showcase art and motorcycle exhibits like this year’s “Rebel Rousers,” as well as future shows by Michael Lichter. The exhibition will be open to the public Saturday, August 1st through Friday, August 7, 2009, and admission is free. To see more about this year’s exhibition and Lichter’s past exhibits, visit www.motorcyclesasart.com

“Rebel Rousers – Motorcycle Icons that Inspired Us to Ride” would not be possible without the generous support of the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa, the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, N.C., and many industry and private collectors. Conceptual help came from Professor Steven Alford, Professor Suzanne Ferriss and Dave Nichols. Presenting sponsors for this year’s exhibit include, Interstate Batteries, Metzeler Tires, Progressive Insurance, and Spectro Oil.
Now celebrating its 28th consecutive year as “The Best Party Anywhere,” The Legendary Buffalo Chip is the Sturgis Rally’s best-known hot spot. Since 1982, the Chip has become internationally famous for the performances on its 4 stages, hot bartenders and special events presented “by bikers, for bikers.” The Legendary Buffalo Chip has been featured on one 13-episode television series and five television specials, some of which remain in current broadcast rotation. Its 2009 schedule of events includes its 9-day concert series (free to campers) featuring favorites like Aerosmith, Toby Keith, Cheech and Chong, Hinder, Tesla, George Thorogood and Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

U.S. Senator: Marijuana Legalization Should Be “On The Table” —Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) has become the highest-ranking U.S. lawmaker to argue that marijuana legalization should be expored. .
Webb has introduced a bill to create a presidential commission to study prison reform, including rethinking and overhauling U.S. drug-sentencing policy.
Webb’s bill is backed by Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA). Other heavyweight supporters include the current Judiciary panel head, Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-VT); the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, Richard J. Durbin (D-IL); and the top three Republicans on the Judiciary Committee.
The bipartisan interest in Webb’s bill is due in part to the shocking number of U.S. citizens behind bars. One of every 31 adult Americans is either in prison, in jail or on supervised release. The U.S. has 5% of the world’s population, but 25% of the world’s prisoners.
Another factor that has increased interest is the current Drug War-fueled violence in Mexico.
On April 23, Sen. Webb was asked by CNN’s Kiran Chetry: “Would you support perhaps legalizing marijuana?”
“I think what we need to do is to put all the issues on the table,” replied Sen. Webb. “You’re correct: if you go back to 1980 as a starting point, I think we had 40,000 people in prison on drug charges and today we have about a half a million of them. A great majority of those are non-violent crimes, possession crimes or minor sales.
“At the same time, we’ve got a situation with Mexican drug cartels conducting violence along the border, operating in 230 American cities, and we aren’t getting our arms around that in a proper way so, we need to put it on the table. That’s why we need a presidential commission to look at these things — people who have high stature in these career areas — and to report to the Congress on the best way to go forward. But, nothing should be off the table.”
“And that includes, as you were saying, possibly looking at legalization?” asked Chetry.
“Well, I think they should examine every aspect of drug policy to see what’s working and what’s not working …” Sen. Webb said.

Bill Limits Gun Regulation–
By ROY MAYNARD
Editorial Page Editor
A bill by state Rep. Leo Berman exempting Texas-made firearms, gun accessories and ammunition sold within the state from federal regulation and law — including registration — was heard in a House committee on Monday.
The bill also provides for the Texas Attorney General’s office to defend Texans who run afoul of the federal government because of this law.
Berman, a Tyler Republican who has pushed several “states’ rights” measures this legislative session, said his bill would affect more than 300 manufacturers in the state.
“Under the 9th and 10th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution, states have responsibility for regulating intrastate commerce,” Berman said. “The federal government has no role.” Worse, he said, the federal government would like to increase regulations.
“With the appointment of Eric Holder as U.S. attorney general, we have the most anti-Second Amendment attorney general in the history of the nation,” Berman said. “What we’re saying with this is there are some guns not subject to federal regulation. We have guns and gun accessories and ammunition here that are not subject to their regulation.”
Berman said the bill has the support of the National Rifle Association and the Texas State Rifle Association. Contacted on Monday, the Texas State Rifle Association’s Alice Tripp did not comment.
Berman said his bill could also spark economic development.
“This gun bill will invite new industry into Texas, that will take advantage of intra-state commerce,” Berman said. “We’re talking about gun manufacturers, gun accessory manufacturers, and ammunition reloaders.”
Montana passed a similar bill earlier this month, and a court challenge is expected when the law goes into effect in October.
“It’s a gun bill, but it’s another way of demonstrating the sovereignty of the state of Montana,” said Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat.
Opponents there warn the law could result in gun purchases with no criminal background checks.
Tyler attorney and gun rights advocate Sean Healy said Berman’s effort is commendable.
“I applaud Leo’s effort to put the federal government in its place,” Healy said. “Americans have been conditioned for decades to accept Washington’s meddling in their lives. We have grown complacent, and we accept most new restrictions without batting an eye. As a result, Washington has gotten used to doing whatever it wants.”
That applies to sweeping federal regulation of firearms, he added.
“I think Leo is right about the Constitution,” he said. “The founders intended for the federal government to have the powers specifically given to it in the Constitution, and the states and the people to keep the power to do everything else.”
Still, the bill could end up putting the state on a collision course with the federal courts.
“The only problem I see with Leo’s bill is the provisions requiring the state to pay for its citizens to fight the federal government,” Healy said. “That could cost the taxpayers a lot of money fighting a losing battle.”
Berman’s bill was left pending in committee, as is usual following committee hearings. It could be voted on as soon as next week. On Wednesday, another House committee will hear a bill by Berman that would place an 8 percent surcharge on all money wired by illegal immigrants to Mexico and Central and South America. Berman said the bill would generate $480 million yearly. The revenue would be earmarked for hospitals, which he says bear the burden of providing health care for uninsured illegal immigrants and for border security.–East Texas

DAMN COMPUTERS–I swear, I’m going to put a bullet in this hunk of time devastating plastic someday. If I do, you’ll never see me on the web again. Some 2/3s through the news my computer started to lock up. Every time I opened the Sunday Post is locked, and that incessant colored wheel would begin to spin, and never stop until I shut the computer down. I tried over and over to delete the scurrilous Sunday Post element, but soon it wouldn’t allow me to accomplish any task without the spinning wheel being launched, forcing shut down again.

My choices were limited. Could I reach into my software for a solution? Hell, I don’t know. I called Sin Wu and shipped the Swine Flu document to her. We’ll see if we survive another computer disease episode. Hang on.

It’s a damn beautiful day for a ride, tinkering in the shop or chasing women around the shop. Come-on, let’s wrap up the post without loading my 357 mag and pointing it at the screen. Hang on for next week. We’ll bring you the entire Bill Bish Coast to Coast Legislative report. News on our SEMA effort, 5-Ball Racing Update, a terrific bike feature, then we’re off to the Smoke Out. The following week we’ll bring you more antique, action and babes to the Cantina departments.
Ride Forever,
