THIRD ANNUAL LEGEND OF THE MOTORCYCLE BETTER THAN EVER — San Francisco ? 5 May 2008 ? The third annual Legend of the Motorcycle Concours d?Elegance, the world-class event exclusively for motorcycles, enjoyed its third year with enormous acclaim, a star-studded attendance and an incomparable roster of entries.
In attendance at the Saturday, May 3rd event were approximately 6,000 participants and attendees from five continents, admiring nearly 300 of some of the best motorcycles in the world and raising thousands of dollars for charity.
The featured marques were MV Agusta and Norton, with a historic and astounding gathering of the legendary Italian bike and one of the most significant assemblies of competition and pedigree Nortons in the world. From an 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmueller Replica brought from Germany, to the only Merkel ?U? board track racer known to exist, to the Airstream chopper built and unveiled by Jesse James, every facet of motorcycle sport and culture was represented.
Giacomo Agostini, the greatest Grand Prix racer of all time, came from Italy with his family to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was conferred by World Champion Phil Read who came over from England for the occasion.
Actors and motorcyclists Jason Lee and Giovanni Ribisi conferred the Elvis Award sponsored by Lucky Brand Jeans, Chad McQueen presented the Steve McQueen Award in honor of his father, and actor and biker Michael Madsen presented the Best of Show Award, sponsored by Dainese, to a hundred year-old Indian Torpedo Tank Racer in its original unrestored condition.
A private pre-Concours ride with World Champions Agostini and Read and senior executives from MV Agusta and other motorcycle manufacturers kicked-off in Los Angeles with a private tour of Jay Leno?s garage before arriving in Half Moon Bay.
Icons of custom bike building Jesse James, Paul Cox and Billy Lane unveiled new creations to the applauding and cheering throngs of enthusiasts and press, as did Japanese sensation Shinya Kimura. MV Agusta unveiled for North America its F4 RR 312 1078 model, and Dainese unveiled its collection of legendary and historic racing suits as well as their collaborative prototype helmet with Agostini.
Following the afternoon award ceremony, Bonhams & Butterfields conducted a sale of 100 motorcycles including everything from pre-war motor bicycles to modern land rockets and the one of a kind 1928 Shovelhead from Bandit’s collection. Then, later that evening, a special fundraising dinner hosted the likes of Agostini, Read, Wayne Rainey, Mert Lawwill and Malcolm Smith.
From racers to builders, executives to owners, enthusiasts to the curious, Legend of the Motorcycle brought together a unique combination of people for a weekend world event celebrating over a century of the two-wheeled machine.

ONE OF THE RAREST AND MOST VALUABLE CONCEPT CARS OF THE 1950s TO DEBUT AT RM?s MONTEREY AUCTION EVENT —A one-of-a-kind 1957 Chrysler Diablo will debut at RM Auctions? annual ?Sports & Classics of Monterey? auction event in California, August 15th and 16th. Conceived by Chrysler?s design head, Virgil Exner, the Diablo is arguably one of the largest and most impressive concept cars ever built. The ultra-rare Diablo will be joined by several other European styles sports and racing cars and several classic American luxury automobiles at RM?s world-renowned Monterey event.
BLENHEIM, Ontario (May 6, 2008) – A one-of-a-kind 1957 Chrysler Diablo concept car handcrafted by Ghia will steal the spotlight at Monterey?s famed classic car weekend this August as it crosses the RM auction block.
Considered the most valuable concept car of the late 1950s, the revolutionary Diablo will be the star attraction of RM Auctions? multi-million dollar Sports & Classics of Monterey auction event, to be held August 15th and 16th in downtown Monterey, California.
Conceived by Chrysler?s design head, Virgil Exner, arguably America?s most influential stylist, this rare example was built by Italian coachbuilder Ghia for the Chrysler Corp. on a 1955 Chrysler 300 series chassis A featured concept car for the 1957 US auto show circuit, the car is one of the largest and most impressive concept cars ever built, stretching an impressive 22 feet in length.
In 1957, the Diablo was Chrysler?s star concept car of the year. With an investment from Chrysler of over $250,000, the Diablo was showcased to the public at the 1958 Chicago Auto Show, before being returned to Ghia in Italy for their corporate promotion. The car eventually found its way back to the United States and has been under the careful care of its current owner for over 25 years. The sale of this important American concept will be accompanied by extensive documentation, detailing its history and restoration.
The ultra-rare Diablo will join several other European styled sports and racing cars and several classic American luxury automobiles at RM?s world-renowned Monterey auction.
?RM has assembled the greatest collection of sports and classic cars ever brought together on the Monterey Peninsula,? said Ian Kelleher, Managing Director of RM Auctions.
?The Diablo is simply the holy grail of all concept cars in its era. Its upcoming auction in Monterey has received considerable international interest due to its rarity and the fact that concept cars are a featured highlight of this year?s world famous Pebble Beach Concours d?Elegance,? he added.
The Diablo has been an attraction at such prestigious museums as the Cleveland Auto and Aviation Museum, the Petersen Automotive Museum and Chicago?s Museum of Science and Industry, as well as at such events as the Pebble Beach Concours d?Elegance and New York?s Louis Vuitton Classic.
Adding to its fascinating history, the car nearly sealed its fate along with the legendary Chrysler Norseman, when it was scheduled to be shipped aboard the ill-fated Andrea Doria. Luckily, for dream car enthusiasts, last minute work delayed its shipment, preserving it for the enjoyment of future generations.
?Our Monterey sale marks the first time the Diablo has been offered at auction, making for an exclusive ownership opportunity,? added Kelleher.
RM Auctions? Sports & Classics of Monterey auction event will be held August 15th and 16th at the Portola Hotel and Spa and Monterey Conference Center, in Monterey, CA. Coinciding with the famed Pebble Beach Concours d?Elegance, the Sports & Classics of Monterey auction has and will continue to attract thousands of automobile enthusiasts and participants from around the world.
Admission to the Sports & Classics of Monterey auction event is $40 per person, with children 12 and under admitted free of charge. An auction catalog is available for an additional $100 U.S., including shipping and handling within North America.

1%er THE TELEVISION SERIES–Bandit, you may still have enough brain cells that have escaped the floods of Black Label Jack Daniels to recall when I introduced you to Emilio, movie/TV star and fellow non-complier. He’s just booked the role of the leader of the bad guy gang in a new 1%er TV show and needs to get into the biker underworld deeper.
I told him I’d call in one of the thousands of favors you owe me, from when I used to push-start that skateboard Jennifer James built you to that time I shot the deadly black widow off that county-fair crafts plaque that guy doing life in Angola for raping a Gnu made you, and saved your life.
Now you two are reunited. Emilio said he didn’t want to be rude or pushy and ask for a favor. I told him, hell Ball tried to steal every woman I ever had, drank all my whiskey, smoked my cigars, used my best fighting knives to clean his boots, crowded me on every highway in America; call him, push, beg, demand, blackmail, etc.
The brother needs a hookup. He’s good people.
