2008 FREEDOM FIGHTERS ANNOUNCED– May 2008 – – The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is proud to announce the 2008 Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame Inductees, Paul K. Vestal and Fredric W. Harrell.

The Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame recognizes the commitment and sacrifices individuals across the nation, and world, have made to protect the rights of motorcyclists. In their honor the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame established the nation?s first and only Freedom Fighters Hall of Fame.

Paul Vestal was elected President of the United Bikers of Maine (UBM), a motorcycle rights organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the rights of motorcyclists in Maine, in 1982 and served in that capacity for seven years. As one of the early Presidents of the organization, he helped to build UBM into one of the strongest and largest state motorcycle rights organizations in the nation. Paul has also served on the board of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), and was elected President of that organization in 1991.

Fredric W. Harrell was one of a group of individuals who formed the Nevada Association of Concerned Motorcyclists (NACM) in 1975. The NACM was formed to protect motorcyclists and motorcycling from discriminatory legislation. For 20 years, Fred served as the State Director and a Lobbyist for the organization. In 1985, Fred was among those who attended the first meeting of motorcycle rights leaders across the country ? an event that later became known as the Meeting of the Minds. Fred has also served in many positions on the Board of Directors of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF).

Harrell and Vestal will be honored at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Breakfast, Wednesday, August 6th, at the Holiday Inn in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Breakfast tickets are available for a $25.00 donation, tables of eight for $250.00. Tickets can be purchased through the Museum 605.347.2001 or on line www.sturgismuseum.com.

?10,000 REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO STOLEN MOTORCYCLES– Two priceless, multi-award winning, custom motorcycles also known as ?Art Bikes? were stolen from a service area on the A1 today (23rd May). The two machines, known as Psy-Bawg and Barnstormer, are extremely well known to the international motorcycling community; as some of the world?s best examples of one-off custom engineering, having won numerous awards for design and construction across Europe and beyond.

Psy-Bawg_STOLEN

The unique nature of the one-off hand made components makes both motorcycles very easily identifiable and totally worthless to anyone wishing to sell the bikes on, but to the team at Hawg Haven in Norwich the bikes are priceless, representing the culmination of years of dedication and hard work. Consequently business partners Jon and Terry are offering a massive ?10,000 reward for information which leads to the safe recovery of Psy-Bawg and Barnstormer.

If you have ANY INFORMATION which may help track the machines down, or if you have noticed anything unusual ? the bikes are quite unmistakeable ? please contact Jon direct on 07776 185 608.

Contact Jon Quantrell at Hawg Haven on 01603 41 22 22 or see www.hawghaven.co.uk for more details. (ENDS)

NEW ARTIST ON BIKERNET– I have made strides of progress since you first emailed me back. Here is my web site , see limited editions, which leads to Cruisin Goods now representing me. I will be showing at the ROT on June 12-15. I have a top notch printer in Van Gogh Again, found in talking to Greg Rhodes of Uhl Studio’s. Everyone is very open and friendly here and I am loving it.

At the ROT I am boothing with the wife of the author of Chrome Horse Chronicles , Carol O’Brien for this book’s first introduction. Fred was killed soon after completing his book on his next tour through Colorado back in 05. I am painting Fred in a four sky scene depicting his travels, soon to be completed that I hope will adorn the cover of all future editions of his now published enjoyable book. Order a copy to create a review for her. Along with “Chrome Horse”, I will be adding “Open Road” to the mix, a true longhorn handled bike.

Wanna Go For a Ride?– A 10-year-old girl was walking down the street when a big man on a black motorcycle pulls up beside her and says ‘Hey little girl, do you want to go for a ride?’

‘NO!’ says the little girl as she keeps on walking.

The motorcyclist pulls up beside her again and says ‘Hey kid, I will give you $10 if you hop on the back.’

‘NO!’ said the little girl and proceeded down the street a little quicker.

The motorcyclist pulls up to the little girl again and says ‘Okay kid, I will give you $20 and a BIG bag of candy if you hop on the back of my bike for a ride.’

At this point the little girl turns to him and screams angrily ‘Look Dad, YOU bought a Honda instead of a Harley so YOU ride it!’

BSA

ANTIQUE BIKE DEAL OF THE WEEK, ’68 BSA– It’s a 1968 all original matching numbers bike. It runs well. In the pics I have shown a couple defects. The muffler has had battery acid spilled on it so it is not shinny in that area (no rust) and the front light bezel was dented and it has been straightened but missing some chrome in that area.

Otherwise I believe it is in very nice original shape. I purchased it from the original owner. He bought it in England and rode it over there before returning to the US. I have a good US title for it. I believe it has about 13,000 miles. The speedo was replaced at around 10,000 and now has 3600 miles showing. Need $3500.

FUND RAISER FOR ALLEN WEST RUNNING FOR CONGRESS– Before you get all non-political on my ass, first know that it’s a motorcycle ride that starts at Sunrise Harley and ends at Bourgets/OCC. Also know that there will be bands, DJ, professional emcees, food, drinks and a classic (pre 1978) car show. So the rides ends in a street party.

BUT WAIT — there’s more:

In the evening — from 5 – 7 we’ll crank it down a notch — we’re taking the party inside Chrome Bar for cocktails, more intimate food and a polynesian show finale. In addiiton — we’re invited everyone in his district (22) to this portion of the event — not just bikers. That’s why I’m asking you to repost.

NOW WAIT!!!!

Before you get all “but: gas prices! the economy!” on my ass… know that this will not cost you. There is no fee. Sure you’ll pay for food during the day or drinks… but that money goes to the vendors. And sure, Allen West is hoping that you’ll contribute to his campaign… but it’s certainly not mandatory. No required. Hoped for — not expected.

ONE MORE MOMENT, PLEASE

If you haven’t yet met Allen, let me tell you… he’s the coolest. He’s is a biker,a diver, a runner, a veteran, a war hero and a neighbor. He’s NORMAL. He’s not “a suit”. He has tattoos. He drives a pick up. He has little kids. and he’s just plain NICE. Find out more about him politically at www.allenwestforcongress.com .
or just hit me up.

PS: And I’m not even in his District.

radialengine

ANOTHER CIRCULAR BIKE BUILD–There?s a certain mystique associated with radial engines which may be why several builders have recently built motorcycles wrapped around the circular powerplants. Of course, they look pretty cool, too. As we?ve also pointed out here before, several motorcycle engines have been adapted for use in airplanes, usually in their standard configuration but using an adapter of some sort for the prop.

This XR600 radial engine project blurs the line by building a 9 cylinder aircraft radial engine out of the cylinders from a Honda XR600 single.

Details of this project are limited but it seems Russell Sutton, a New Zealander living in Australia, is building this 8 liter engine which will have a redline around 4000 rpm and a planetary gearbox, made from gears out of a Caterpillar transmission, which will reduce the prop speed to 2500 rpm. The engine will eventually find its way into an airboat. These photos originate from Ian Drysdale, who?s been known to mix engine parts in some interesting combinations of his own.

Some of you Aussies and Kiwis build the coolest stuff!

–from Nick Roberts and Kneeslider.com A friend, who worked away from home all week, always made a special effort with his family on the weekends. Every Sunday morning he would take his 7-year old granddaughter out for a drive in the car for some bonding time, just he and his granddaughter.

One particular Sunday he had a bad cold and didn’t feel like being up. Luckily his wife came to the rescue and took their grandaughter out.

When they returned home, the little girl anxiously ran upstairs to see her grandfather.

“Well, did you enjoy your ride with grandma?”

“Oh, yes, grandpa”, the girl replied. “And do you know what? We didn’t see a single dumb bastard or lousy shit head anywhere we went!”

Nun joke
Don’t nuns look like this?

PAUSE FOR A CHURCH OF BIKERNET RELIGIOUS MOMENT– Two nuns are ordered to paint a room in the convent, and the last instruction of the Mother Superior is that they must not get even one drop of paint on their habits.

After conferring about this for a while, the two nuns decide to lock the door of the room, strip off their habits, and paint in the nude.

In the middle of the project, there comes a knock at the door. ” Who is it?”, calls one of the nuns. “Blind man,” replies a voice from the other side of the door. The two nuns look at each other and shrug and deciding that no harm can come from letting a blind man into the room, they open the door.

“Nice boobs”, says the man. “Where do you want the blinds?”

Trophy

LET’S RIDE–Here’s the final trophy minus some polish, clear finish and an official Bikernet Brass Plaque from the local trophy store. Then I shifted to the Half Moon Bay Shovel. Remember, I over-filled the trans and Pablo recommended dual seals in the tranny main shaft nut. I took care of that, then noticed that my BDL clutch throwout adjuster screw was pushing against the seal.

clutch pin

Evidently my clutch pushrod was too short, so I looked into finding an adjuster screw about ? inch longer with a tapered end that wouldn’t fuck with the seal. I have one on order from Rivera Primo, but I needed the Shovel off the lift. I got shit to do. I dug around in my secret shit drawers and found a small chunk of dowel pin just the right length, installed it and she worked like a dream.

plates and scotchbrite

Funny, the little info you try to research. I looked for info on this business in several manuals and couldn’t find shit. The key is the correct length pushrod. I cleaned the plates and Scotchbrite sanded the steels. She’s ready to rock once more.

Next week we have a feature coming on the Brass Balls Military Build-off Winner, the history of Rogue, more fiction, some Rogue techs, including one we’re working on with Baker on their new tranny oil tanks. I know there’s more, but I need to escape this computer for five minutes and grab a beer.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
