MOM’S DAY SUNDAY POST

Hey,

It’s mother’s day, what the fuck are we doing trying to post a news column? A mom came up with the notion of the Sunday Post. We’re always looking for hot moms to grace the Sunday Post. What the hell?

We received the XS650 frame from Mr. Lucky, and next week we will start our first Jap biker bobber project in the Bikernet Headquarters. Danny, the recipient of this project, has been cleaning the shop, prepping for three builds and painting our lifts with a fresh coat of Rust-oleum paint. We mix their smoke gray with almost the same amount of gloss white, for a light, easy to see gray coating.

I bought a lift from Gard Hollinger and the damn thing was black, with diamond plate top. That had to change, and Danny did a helluva job. He grew up in the painting business and is an expert, but hates it. He returned to school and has a certificate for X-ray tech. The kid works two jobs, and watches his baby, while his wife Shirley goes to work or school.

Well, here’s to all the mom’s out there. We couldn’t do shit without them. Goddamnit, I hope you didn’t forget.

$80K MOTORBIKE STOLEN in U.S. found in Philippines–National Bureau of Investigation agents look at an $80,000 stolen motorcycle inside their warehouse in the Cagayan de Oro city, southern Philippines on Thursday. The $80,000 motorcycle stolen in Texas last year from Hollywood screenwriter Skip Woods has been recovered in the southern Philippines.
MANILA, Philippines.

Woods, a collector of custom-made vehicles, wrote the screenplay for “Swordfish,” “Hitman” and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”

His chopper was among 14 motorcycles, three all-terrain vehicles, two SUVs, a sports car, a shotgun and ammunition for assault rifles recovered by police in raids in Cagayan de Oro and nearby Bukidnon province, Misamis Oriental provincial police Chief Graciano Mijares said.

The U.S. FBI sought assistance in the recovery of Woods’ motorcycle, Yap said.
An American private investigator representing Woods said the screenwriter was surprised that his motorcycle, which was stolen from the parking lot of his condominium in Houston, Texas, ended up half way around the world.

Woods was “really congratulatory. He is more than pleased,” said the investigator, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe is ongoing.
Police are looking for a Filipino who was selling the motorcycle online, Mijares said.
Yap said the man faces illegal firearms possession and smuggling charges.

ELECTRIC ROADS: Could You Drive Coast to Coast Without Stopping?–We ask a lot of our cars – heat me, cool me, be silent, be comfy, be exciting and, increasingly, propel me without costly and polluting gasoline. It’s the latter request that confounds, since batteries, the most obvious replacements for gas, are heavy and have limited energy storage.

But what if the energy storage burden was shifted from our overworked cars to the road?

Researchers at the Energy Dynamics Laboratory at Utah State University are working on just such a solution, called electrified roads.

Electric vehicles, or EVs, could pick up small amounts of electricity as they drive over charging pads buried under the asphalt and connected to the electrical grid. Researchers say that a continuously available power supply would allow EVs to cut battery size as much as 80 percent, drastically reducing vehicle cost.

Nicola Tesla first proposed wireless energy transfer more than a century ago.

“Basically you get power directly from the grid to the motors as the car moves,” said Hunter Wu, a Utah State researcher who was recruited from The University of Auckland in New Zealand, where the technology was pioneered, to further develop the concept. “You can travel from the West Coast to the East Coast continuously without charging.”

Nicola Tesla first discovered the principles of wireless charging, or inductive power transfer, in the late 19th Century. It works by creating an electromagnetic charging field that transfers energy to a receiving pad set to the same frequency.

Manufacturers are already marketing wireless charging pads for electric vehicles – retrofitted to accept the charges – that can deliver a 5-kilowatt charge with 90 percent efficiency from a distance of about 10 inches.

There is also a trial application of electric roads – albeit at slow speeds and using very long charging pads – for buses at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, south of Seoul.

But Wu is thinking of something much more radical: charging at interstate speeds. This will require several technical breakthroughs, he said.

“At 75 mph, you’re only going to stay on a pad for about 30 milliseconds,” he said. “We need to turn the pad embedded in the road on and off really quickly.”

The pads would need to be able to signal to each other that a car is coming and the car would also need to communicate its need for a charge, he said.

UNITED NATIONS LOOKING OUT FOR OSAMA BIN LADEN’S RIGHTS–
From the U.N.:

“In respect of the recent use of deadly force against Osama bin Laden, the United States of America should disclose the supporting facts to allow an assessment in terms of international human rights law standards,” the commission’s special investigators, Christof Heyns and Martin Scheinin, said in a joint statement. “For instance, it will be particularly important to know if the planning of the mission allowed an effort to capture bin Laden.”

Since when did a terrorist who murdered thousands of American civilians have any rights? The United Nations is supposedly a group of our allies. Bin Laden forfeited his rights as a human being on September 11, 2001. If the U.N.’s demands make you furious as an America, here’s where you can tell them what you think: http://www.un.org/en/contactus/

AUSTRALIAN MOTORCYCLE GROUPS EXPRESS DISMAY AT VERDICT– Motorcycle lobby groups have slammed a not-guilty verdict for a central Victorian police officer involved in a crash that killed a Woodend rider.

Peta Carbonneau, 35, was charged with dangerous driving causing death following the 2009 accident.

She was yesterday acquitted of the charge in the Bendigo County Court.

Independent Riders Group spokesman Damien Cognotto said the verdict sent a poor message to the community.

‘’I’m disappointed in the verdict because the officer who was driving the car was an experienced police woman, had advanced driver training and knew the area, so it’s unlikely that she didn’t understand that the double white lines meant it was dangerous to do a U-turn in that spot,’’ Mr Cognotto said.

“Even if there weren’t double white lines, in the conditions it was dangerous.’’
He said he realised Carbonneau was remorseful for the fatal mistake, but a conviction should have been recorded.

“It’s one of those crashes that really didn’t need to happen. It’s destroyed one life and damaged several others and while personally I don’t think a jail term was warranted, I can’t understand the not-guilty verdict. It just doesn’t make sense,’’ he said.
Motorcycle Riders Association safety officer Dale Maggs yesterday said justice had not been served.

“It makes me feel in some way we have been robbed of not only an important person in the community, being Luke Wilson, but the system has failed us by finding Peta Carbonneau not guilty,’’ he said. “Where a person who is an experienced driver and clearly responsible for her actions is let off and can go unpenalised it says to me there are gaps in the judiciary system and these loopholes need to be closed.’’

Mr Maggs said the association would write to the Office of Public Prosecution expressing its disappointment at the verdict.

ARE YOU EATING WHEAT BERRIES?– Wheat is one of the most important cereal crops in the world, and by far the most consumed grain in the United States. True whole grains are naturally rich in folate, calcium, phosphorous, zinc, copper, iron, vitamin E and many B vitamins – almost all of which are lost in refined flour products. Instead of opting for the refined and highly processed forms of wheat (commonly found in breads, cakes, cookies and crackers), consider wheat in one of its whole or cracked forms. It is a far healthier choice – choose one of the following next time you are at the grocery store:

Wheat berries. Raw kernels of wheat that have been stripped of their inedible outermost hull only are the least processed form of wheat. They come in many varieties: hard or soft, winter or spring, and red or white.

Cracked wheat. Made by milling raw wheat berries into smaller pieces, cracked wheat requires less cooking time but still preserves the nutrient- and fiber-rich bran and germ layers.

Bulgur. These pre-cooked grains are parboiled and dried wheat berries that are then broken into pieces. This makes a quicker-cooking grain with a nuttier flavor that is featured in popular Middle-Eastern dishes such as tabbouleh and kibbeh.

NEW BANDIT’S CANTINA HEALTH WARNING–Police are warning all men who frequent clubs, parties & local pubs to be alert and stay cautious when offered a drink from any woman.

Many females use a date rape drug on the market called ‘Beer.’

The drug is found in liquid form and is available anywhere. It comes in bottles, cans, or from taps and in large ‘kegs’. Beer is used by female sexual predators at parties and bars to persuade their male victims to go home and sleep with them.

A woman needs only to get a guy to consume a few units of Beer and then simply ask him home for no strings attached sex.

Men are rendered helpless against this approach. After several beers, men will often succumb to the desires to sleep with horrific looking women to whom they would normally not be attracted.

After drinking beer, men often awaken with only hazy memories of exactly what happened to them the night before, often with just a vague feeling that ‘something bad’ occurred.

At other times these unfortunate men are swindled out of their life’s savings, in a familiar scam known as ‘a relationship.’

In extreme cases, the female may even be shrewd enough to entrap the unsuspecting male into a longer term form of servitude and punishment referred to as ‘marriage.’ Men are much more susceptible to this scam after beer is admin istered and sex is offered by the predatory females.

If you fall victim to this ‘Beer’ scam and the women administering it, there are male support groups where you can discuss the details of your shocking encounter with similarly victimized men.

For the support group nearest you, just look up ‘Golf Courses’ in the phone book.

Saving Money Without Compromising Your Level of Security

In these days of economic uncertainty, people are looking for ways to save money. A good place to start is with your motorcycle insurance.  Do you know that you can actually improve your level of security while saving money by switching to Bikernet Insurance?  Here’s how:

1. DISCOUNTS

Let’s talk “real” discounts.  Did you know that 10% discounts are the norm from most insurance companies but if you are a HOG member you can get a 15% with Bikernet Insurance PLUS 10% if you are a member of Bandit’s Cantina?  That’s a whopping 25% before other discounts are even applied. Some of our customers are saving as much as 60% on their motorcycle insurance when we place them in biker-friendly, Dairyland Cycle Insurance Company.  Other discounts, such as Home Ownership, Good Driver Experience, Safety Course Completion and others  are available in addition to this first 25%.

2. COVERAGE PROTECTION

Again, let’s talk real, motorcycle-specific coverage not the automobile policy converted to handle two and three wheel vehicle insurance offered by many insurance companies out there.

Roadside Assistance:

You better have this coverage if you become disabled while out on a ride.  And even if you do, make sure it includes “towing” to get your bike back home or to a service garage somewhere. Not all insurance policies offer this important coverage. A good motorcycle-specific insurance policy will tow your bike to a qualified repair facility, jump-start your battery, and bring you gas and oil.

Optional Equipment:

There is a lot of confusion here by underwriters. We keep it simple. Optional equipment is any equipment or accessory which you added to your motorcycle that is not factory standard. No confusion and no hassle at the time of a claim.  “Factory Standard” is the standard equipment on your bike at the time of manufacturer as defined by the manufacturer.  So, always tell us about any optional equipment on your motorcycle.  By the way, we provide your with an automatic $5,000 of coverage “FREE” when we insure you with Dairyland Cycle Insurance.

Safety Apparel:

There is all kinds of confusion around whether or not motorcycle safety gear is covered.  Most automobile converted to motorcycle policies do not cover your safety apparel.  Make sure that when you are in a Collision, that you have coverage for any safety apparel whether or not it was worn at the time of the incident. Plus, double-check that the definition of “safety apparel” includes your helmet.  Most insurers do not include your helmet unless there was also a total theft of your motorcycle.  However, if your helmet is destroyed in a covered accident, you best have coverage for it given how expensive good helmets are these days. We have a company that will provide $1,000 of “FREE” coverage for safety apparel in their “Excursion Diversion” coverage. And, this company will reimburse you for damage to your helmet.  There’s more . . . if your excursion is diverted in the event of an accident, they’ll provide up to $400 for temporary lodging, transportation and meals.

Genuine Manufacturer’s Parts Coverage

This is one of the best reasons for switching your motorcycle insurance to Bikernet Insurance. For about $25 per year, this coverage guarantees the use of only “Genuine Manufacturer’s Parts” when repairing your bike and to replace any accessories. (When accessories where purchased within 5 years.).

It’s Your Motorcycle

Look-it folks, it’s your bike. For many of us, we love our motorcycles just like we love our families.  There are a lot of insurance policies to choose from out there and they all cost money. You need to choose carefully. When you buy a policy from Bikernet Insurance to cover your motorcycle, we give you a real motorcycle policy at a great price, not a converted auto policy that may or may not cover a loss when you have a covered accident.

You are not just a policy number with us. We Care About You.

INTERNATIONAL FEMALE RIDE DAY– Friday May 11th was the date for the 2011 International Female Ride Day.

This is billed as – The Largest Woman Rider’s Event in the World!

On this day many woman riders from right around the world jumped on their motorcycles and went riding.

Down Under, in South Australia some members of the Adelaide Harley Owners Group and several friends took their bikes through a day’s ride through the sensational Adelaide Hills, a paradise of twisty roads, wide sweepers and tight switchbacks all dressed in Autumn foliage to rival Fall anywhere. Despite the early Autumn chill in the air, the day was sunny and great riding was enjoyed.

The Harley riding girls were on everything from a new CVO Street Glide through Road Kings and a new Sportster Superlow. A delicious lunch at the renowned winery town of Angaston went down well and fuelled the ladies for the ride home. I can hardly wait for next year.

I was down town where Vicki works waiting for her to have a truck checked in and looked up and there it was. An old water tower with a BIG question mark painted on it ! The first thing I thought of was Indian Larry. Indian Larry was my favorite bike builder. I know he would dig the water tower!

BIN LADEN GIVEN RELIGIOUS FUNERAL PRIOR TO SEA BURIAL–
Published May 02, 2011

Osama bin Laden was given a religious funeral prior to his burial at sea, senior military officials told Fox News.

Religious rites were conducted on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier at about 1:10 a.m. Monday in the Persian Gulf.

In accordance with Islamic practice, bin Laden was washed and wrapped in a white sheet before buried at sea at 2 a.m. local time, senior U.S. military and intelligence officials said.

Then, “In accordance with common US Navy SEAL practice, the Team pissed on him, stuck a pulled pork sandwich in his mouth and a kosher hot dog up his ass, and pushed the Mother Fucker overboard with the other garbage,” a senior SEAL officer said.

BIKERNET WEEKLY GUN NUT REPORT, HOLDER: “I FRANKLY DON’T KNOW” According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Project Gunrunner program was intended to stop the alleged flow of guns to criminals in Mexico. That didn’t happen. Instead, the program may have facilitated the illegal smuggling of thousands of those guns, some of which actually turned up at the murder scene of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in December 2010.

As the probe into Project Gunrunner heats up, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Senate Judiciary Committee want to determine if high-ranking officials in the Department of Justice knew about and approved Project Gunrunner. To that end, this week, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder was called to testify before both committees.

When questioned by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) on Wednesday, Holder said that he does not know how guns allowed to “walk” during the federal gun sting operation ended up at the U.S. Border Patrol agent’s murder scene. “I frankly don’t know,” Holder said.
OUTRAGE OF THE WEEK

This week’s outrage comes to us from the Windy City, where retiring Mayor Richard Daley (D) has allegedly requested an armed bodyguard detail to protect him after he leaves office on May 16.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY SOCIAL STUDIES–People born before 1946 were called The Silent generation..
People born between 1946 and 1964 are called The Baby Boomers.
People born between 1965 and 1979 are calledGeneration X, .
And people born between 1980 and 2010 are called Generation Y ,
Why do we call the last group Generation Y?

Y should I get a job?
Y should I leave home and find my own place?
Y should I get a car when I can borrow yours?
Y should I clean my room?
Y should I wash and iron my own clothes?
Y should I buy any food?
But a cartoonist explained it very eloquently.

This says it all, huh?

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER STUDIES CHEESE– Five Healthy Cheese Choices from cheese-stuffed sandwiches to the samples on toothpicks in the grocery store, cheese seems to be everywhere. While it is a good source of calcium, its high calorie (and often high sodium) content means it should be enjoyed in moderation. This is not as hard as it may seem when you consider how flavorful cheese can be – try the following when the cheese plate comes your way:

Choose a small piece of a cheese you really enjoy and savor it.

Fill up on low-calorie vegetables and fruits, and add a piece of cheese on the side.

Try not to eat more than one to two ounces every few days.

Opt for high-quality, organic versions.

If you’re pregnant, avoid soft cheeses (such as feta, goat, blue and brie) as they may harbor Listeria, a bacterium that can harm a growing baby. Instead, choose hard cheeses like Parmesan, Gruyere and hard Swiss cheese when you’re eating for two.

NEW AMERICAN CANNON BALL EFFORT BY DON EMDE–Don Emde to launch his own “Cannon Ball” runFormer Dealernews publisher, winner of the 1972 Daytona 200 and editor-in-chief of Parts Magazine, Don Emde, is embarking on a multi-year project to retrace and document the 1914 coast-to-coast journey of Erwin “Cannon Ball” Baker.

In a release issued by Emde, Baker is referred to as “America’s first true Adventurebike rider” for his 11-and-a-1/2 day, 3,378-mile ride from San Diego to New York. The concept of Emde’s “Cannon Ball Project” is to locate and ride as much of Baker’s actual route as possible. In some cases, it may no longer exist and the current roads and highways will be taken when necessary. The plan is for him and a staff writer to ride Baker’s 1914 route in segments to allow time to research the current and previous routes and local information for each area. Thanks to support from KTM North America, who are providing 990 Adventure bikes, as well as Parts Unlimited and numerous aftermarket manufacturers, these research rides will continue into 2012 to document the entire trip.

As it is today, racing in the early 1900s was a sales tool used back by the manufacturers to gain respect and brand loyalty. But dusty dirt tracks and steep boardtracks resulted in constant injuries and deaths, and the image of the sport was becoming very negative.

As a result, motorcycle manufacturers looked to other ways to promote their products. One was by promoting the success riders were having attempting to ride across the United States on their motorcycles. At that time there was no established highway system, especially in the Western states, so riders needed to navigate their own routes as well as having to hope for a reliable machine to go the distance.

By 1910, some riders had accomplished motorcycle rides from coast to coast, taking 3 to 4 weeks to complete. Then, in 1914, Baker took off from San Diego, CA on a two-speed Indian V-twin headed for New York. He had pre-planned a route through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Kansas that would eventually get him to Kansas City where an established road system would take him to New York City. Baker astonished the motorcycle world when he completed the 3,378-mile route a full nine days faster than any previous coast-to-coast motorcycle rides. And at the completion of his ride, a journalist obviously impressed by Baker’s commitment to achieving his goal, dubbed him “Cannon Ball,” a nickname that stuck with him for life.

With the publicity in the motorcycle press, Cannon Ball Baker became one of the leading celebrities of the sport. He continued to blaze new routes, including a Canada to Mexico ride where he again established a record for others to break, as well as improving his time of his existing records. When he was done, he had made over 100 runs across the country in motorcycles and cars.

The goal of the project is to demonstrate what an amazing accomplishment it was for Baker to make it all the way across the country on a motorcycle that produced less than 10 horsepower, which he did at an average of over 300 miles per day! An interesting feature of the project will be recreations of certain riding situations that Baker endured with actual demonstrations on a period Indian V-twin provided from the Fred Fox Collection.

And Wednesday we are going to finalize my Evo engine upgrade at Bennett’s Peformance for another Mudflap girl update. You’re going to love the headwork by Branch O’Keefe. It’s amazing what they do to heads from porting to every component they install. You’ll see it all in the next report.
