BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT WORD OF THE SEASON–

brumal [broo-muh l]
adjective

1.wintry.

QUOTES

” ‘Tis a brumal Night, for behold, it sweepeth by,” announces Squire Haligast from the shadows …

— Thomas Pynchon, Mason & Dixon, 1997

ORIGIN
The English adjective brumal ultimately derives from the Latin adjective brumalis (the noun dies “day” is understood) “pertaining to the winter solstice; the winter solstice.”

Brumalis is a derivative of the noun bruma “the shortest day of the year, the winter solstice,” from earlier breuma and brevima, formed from the adjective brevis “short” and an archaic form of the more usual superlative ending -issima. Brumal entered English in the 16th century.

Detectives Arrest Tampa Attorney Making “Girls in Jail” Porn Video At The Pinellas County Jail With Female Inmate– Detectives have arrested Tampa attorney 54 year-old Andrew Spark, for soliciting sex and having sexual contact with a female inmate at the Pinellas County Jail.

The incidents occurred between June 2017 and December 2017 at the Pinellas County Jail located at 14400 49th Street North in Clearwater, Florida.

The investigation began in November 2017, when detectives received information stating that attorney, Spark, was soliciting sex and receiving sexual acts from female inmates at the Pinellas County Jail located at 14400 49th Street North, Clearwater.

The tip stated that Spark would film the sexual acts on his personal tablet in exchange for money that he would put in the inmate’s commissary account. These amounts were described as small in the $30-$40 range.

According to detectives, Spark visited 25 year-old inmate Shauna Boselli on November 25, 2017, by misrepresenting himself to the jail, as her attorney.

Detectives say Spark used his attorney privilege to gain a face-to-face meeting with Boselli in the Pinellas County Jail.

Spark is not representing Boselli on her current charges, nor has he ever represented Boselli on any previous charges.

Spark and Boselli had briefly met on previous occasions, prior to her incarceration, at “porn conventions” in Tampa where Spark requested to make pornography videos with Boselli. Boselli and Spark could not agree on money and the video was not made. Boselli last saw Spark about a year ago.

Detectives say Spark bragged to Boselli about meeting with another female inmate earlier that day, and that he was producing a pornographic video named “Girls in Jail.” Spark offered to put money in Boselli’s commissary account in exchange for her to perform oral sex on him. Boselli declined Spark’s offer to engage in a sexual act.

Detectives were able to determine Spark also met with 28-year-old inmate, Antoinette Napolitano, on November 25, 2017.

According to detectives, Spark first met Napolitano prior to her incarceration, about three years ago while she was advertising on the Backpage website for prostitution. Napolitano and Spark engaged in sexual activity multiple times in the three years, in exchange for money.

Detectives say that Napolitano was arrested for multiple drug charges on June 7, 2017. Spark has visited Napolitano 11 times since June using his attorney privilege to gain a face-to-face meeting with Napolitano in the Pinellas County Jail.

Spark is not representing Napolitano for her current charges, nor has he ever represented Napolitano for any previous charges.

Between June 2017 and December 2017, detectives say Spark met privately with Napolitano and had sex with her inside the Pinellas County Jail at least six times.

Spark would begin his interview by filming Napolitano in her jail uniform and ask her to narrate sexual fantasies before filming her performing sexual acts.

On December 17, 2017, detectives received information that Spark was scheduled to arrive at the Pinellas County Jail to meet with Napolitano and film more pornography.

Detectives caught Spark in the attorney visitation room with Napolitano as they were about to begin the sexual act. Spark’s penis was fully exposed when detectives entered the room.

Spark was arrested and charged with Exposure of Sexual Organs, Introduction/Possession of Contraband into a County Detention Facility, and Soliciting for Prostitution.

Spark did not speak to detectives and requested an attorney.

Detectives say that it is possible that Spark has engaged in the same activity with additional female inmates at the Pinellas County Jail and at other jails throughout the Tampa Bay area and Central Florida.

Spark may face additional charges as this investigation continues.

COLORADO EXPO RETURNS–
After a years hiatus the Colorado Motorcycle Expo is back to bring a little sunshine to a cold Colorado winter.

A couple of years ago an MC related shooting brought this Colorado tradition to a stop. To the dismay of the locals and vendors we didn’t know when or if it would be back. Through perseverance Jeff Brown has worked hard with the local authorities to get the expo back on the books.

One of the nations premier winter shows the Colorado Motorcycle Expo formerly the Colorado Motorcycle Show & Swap bring over 100 custom motorcycles, parts and pieces vendors, live music, and gorgeous girls to Denver. The CME occupies nearly 300,000 square feet of contiguous indoor space at the National Western Stock Show complex. As the winter sets in this is a great break to the cold. In warmer years the parking lot is full of bikes and we can just hope to ride in this year.

In Denver we have been having an extended fall and the riders never mothball their bikes, you never know when it will hit 50 or 60 degrees and the sun will shine. This is a great time to visit with old friends and make new ones, have a cold one, buy that part you need for your winter project. I enjoy the people, seeing what the local builder are coming up with and a wet t-shirt contest. Who could ask for more.

I’ll be there covering the event for Bikernet.com. Brining the Rocky Mountain motorcycle scene to the rest of the world.

SAVE MOTORCYCLING

As a devastated motorcycle industry slowly recovered from the big recession nine years ago that decimated domestic sales, it was hit hard by an aging demographic. Reports of declining motorcycles sales blame an aging baby boomer generation, disinterested millennials, unaffordable prices, limited choices for new riders, licensing requirements, closures of off-road riding areas, insurance and registration costs, and a nervous overall economy.

Whatever the reason, the situation has reached so dire a point that a group of industry insiders, veteran riders, marketers and moto-journalists convened at the recent International Motorcycle Show (IMS) in Long Beach to discuss matters and come up with some solutions to save motorcycling from the steady decline it’s been experiencing in the United States.

Former Indian Motorcycle executive Robert Pandya formed the ‘Give A Shift’ group this fall, beginning with a written survey which included 300 participants, and proceeded to a roundtable discussion in Long Beach, on Nov. 16, with 25 of the most ardent influencers.

Their key findings and comments, made anonymously for fear of offending employers and business associates, paint a bleak picture:
– Sales are flat or falling in almost every area.
– Baby boomer buyers, the most consistent motorcycle consumers, are aging out of the industry fast.
– The industry has failed to increase sales by making new riders out of women, minorities and millennials.
– The old dealership model is outmoded and unimaginative.
– The arrival of autonomous vehicles may push motorcycles off the road entirely.

“The message is, ‘We are in trouble, and there is no silver bullet’,” Pandya said. The consortium called on the power sports industry collectively and riders individually to self-correct, self-police and work together to improve motorcycling’s image and prospects.

In summary, the panel’s report identifies five major areas that participants felt the motorcycle industry should focus on over the next three years:
1. Improving the desirability of motorcycles
2. Ensuring motorcycles are not forgotten amid the autonomous car boom
3. Increasing female ridership
4. The importance of self promotion
5. Improving the dealership experience

“There has never been a more compelling and interesting time in motorcycling,” the report states, with consensus centering on attracting new riders in a shrinking market.

NEW STUDY FORCASTS STRONG GLOBAL ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE GROWTH

A recent study by Infiniti Research Ltd predicts that the electric motorcycle market will grow 42% in the next five years. Reported on military-technologies.net, the detailed analysis includes all major global markets, and identifies marketing strategies and market trends through 2021.

“One trend in the market is development of long-mile range motorcycles,” said one analyst on the study team. “Hence, OEMs are continuously working toward the development of battery technology so the mile-range bridge between these motorcycles and ICE (internal combustion) counterparts is reduced.”

The report concludes that the most prominent driver in the market is decreasing battery prices, which allows OEMs to push cost benefit toward customers. The market is facing continuous improvement in battery technology, which has the strongest effect on both profitability and adoption rate.

The report also states that high purchase prices remain the most challenging prospect for high-performance electric motorcycles. Although while the initial cost of electric motorcycles is higher than equivalent internal combustion powered bikes, the total cost of ownership is less than that of IC-powered bikes due to the latter’s higher fuel and maintenance costs.

VA NEWS–
Positive Developments for Veterans
Despite concerns related to continuing healthcare coverage, 2017 brought some positive developments for veterans, specifically:

The Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017 will make it easier to discipline and fire transgressing employees, provide better protection for those who report misconduct, and improve care for veterans.

A veterans’ complaint hotline has been established.

Unemployment rates for veterans fell to 2.7% in October.

President Trump signed The Veterans Choice Program (VCP) Extension and Improvement Act into law, improving a 2014 program that allows eligible veterans to receive care VA health system- covered care from providers in the community.

The VA has announced a new Electronic Health Record system that will modernize VA medical records, allowing greater access to and security for sensitive health information utilized by patients and providers.

In August, President Trump signed The Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization.

Act, which aims to streamline the appeals process for disability benefit claims.

Also in August, President Trump signed an expansion of educational benefits for veterans and their dependents, boosting aid by $3 billion over the next 10 years, and extending assistance to certain individuals who did not previously qualify.

The “VA Connect” app is being expanded to allow patients to conduct telehealth visits from their home computers and mobile devices, and from private medical offices. This expansion will allow VA providers in major metropolitan areas to help veterans in rural areas, or where there are fewer options for doctors and specialists. Additionally, telehealth visits assist home-bound veterans in receiving more frequent and consistent care, and provide more rapid medical intervention for the purposes of mental health treatment and suicide prevention.

Federal legislators are presently working on tax reform (including tax cuts for some Americans). In an effort to fund the contemplated tax cuts, we will likely see continued efforts to repeal and replace the ACA, and/or, to curb Medicaid spending, which will affect vital health coverage for seniors, veterans, and disabled children and adults.

Treatment of veterans working through the VA system, and processing of veterans’ benefits claims will continue to be an important issue. Further, proposed legislative changes with respect to eligibility for VA pension benefits have yet to be finalized.

BAD DRUG DEAL OF THE WEEK–
Botched pot deal on Snapchat ends in crowbar beating

A 20-year-old Mims man who Titusville police said attacked a marijuana dealer over the weekend with a crowbar after a Snapchat-arranged buy, remains in jail.

Raul Javier Garcia was charged with attempted felony murder and robbery with a weapon after the injured dealer reported the incident to Titusville detectives.

The victim told police he had communicated on social media with Garcia via Snapchat about Garcia buying some marijuana. Police said Garcia and another man met the dealer behind Indian River Pines Condominiums. Then as the victim knelt to go look into the backpack where the pot was kept, he was struck in the head with a crowbar.

Police said the victim, bleeding from his face, was struck again in the head, this time near his left eye. Police said Garcia then took about $300 from the victim’s backpack along with about 10 grams of marijuana.
Detectives tracked both men down for questions and searched through their Facebook account to find a message discussing, ‘hitting the lick on (the dealer),” reports show.

The victim picked Garcia out in a police lineup. Garcia was booked into the Brevard County Jail Complex and is being held on a $32,000 bond, records show.

BIKERNET HOLIDAY BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS WIDE OPEN-– A man walks into a rooftop bar and takes a seat next to another guy.

“What are you drinking?” he asks the guy.

“Magic Beer” he says.

“Oh yeah? What’s so magical about it?”

Then he shows him: he swigs some beer, dives off the roof, flies around the building, then finally returns to his seat with a triumphant smile.

“Amazing!” the man says. “Lemme try some of that!” The man grabs the beer. He downs it, leaps off the roof – and plummets 15 stories to the ground.

Police Violate Fourth Amendment Rights

Very informative. I question one thing however. The moment you are stopped or detained in any way by a police officer, you are under arrest.

The cop doesn’t have to say it at that point, nor does he NOT have to say you aren’t under arrest…a cop can lie……………fact is your freedom of movement or say doing whatever you please has been restricted by the police officer.

At that moment you are under arrest. This is true if not universally at least in every state that I’m aware of.

— John Maragliano
Newburgh, NY

I used the word “seized” when the police stopped the biker. It’s a matter of semantics, but whether you say seized or detained, in effect, it constitutes an arrest. Your movement and freedom have been arrested, even if only temporary.

To be constitutional, the police must be able to articulate a reason for the stop, so of course it’s usually a traffic violation; didn’t completely stop, failed to signal a turn, dirty license plate, etc.

It’s easy for them to create that probable cause, and many of us have been victim to that sort of stop in the past. As Mr. Maragliano says, at that point, you are under arrest (detained, seized).

The law is very clear that once the original reason for the stop has concluded, such as receiving a citation for speeding, you are free to go. Continuing to detain or extend the length of the stop past that point is unconstitutional.

One should never consent to a search of his person or property. It’s not a matter of having nothing to hide, it’s a matter of privacy, which is a sacred right. One should also refuse to participate in any conversation with the police, which can be construed as “consensual.”

People get into all sorts of trouble by conversing with police. Once engaged, an officer can report that you seemed unreasonably nervous, or acted like you were drunk or high on something. That opens the door for further interrogation and investigation because you now gave the officer some “reasonable suspicion.”

That’s why lawyers always say to keep your mouth shut. You also need to verbalize a refusal to consent to a search. Simply remaining silent once asked if they can search your vehicle is not the same as saying “no.”

I hope you liked the article and I will be watching for the outcome of these and other cases.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours,

ANOTHER HOLIDAY BOOK–
CarTech Books Releases, “1,001 Harley-Davidson Facts”

The ultimate book for any Harley rider!

The name Harley-Davidson is nearly synonymous with motorcycling in most parts of the world and the 115-year story of the famed American manufacturer plays a huge role in modern global history. There’s more to the legendary brand than the chrome, leather, and unique sound it’s known for today.

As you can imagine, over the course of more than 100 years, The Harley-Davidson Motor Company has seen prosperous times as well as lean times, changes in focus and direction, evolution and revolution. All of that leads to a lot of company history and trivia. Author Tyler Greenblatt has compiled 1,001 Harley-Davidson facts into this single volume, with subjects ranging from the historic powertrains to pop culture to Harley-Davidson as a company and manufacturer.

Whether you ride everyday, just casually, or don’t even ride at all, you’re sure to find something of interest in this book. Impress your friends and family in that next conversation about Harleys!

“1,001 Harley-Davidson Facts” is laid out into eight chapters covering the eight major eras of Harley-Davidson motorcycles: Early Era up to 1915, 1916-1929 F-Head Era, 1929-1941 Pre-War Flathead Era, 1936-1947 Knucklehead Era, 1948-1965 Panhead Era, 1966-1984 Shovelhead Era, 1984-1998 Evolution Era, 1999-2016 Twin Cam Era. Each chapter gets further broken down evenly into facts about The Motor Company, The Chassis, The Powertrain, People and Pop Culture, and Military, Police, and Racing. Information spans from highly technical to barely motorcycle-related, making it a great read for anyone.

This book will keep Harley-Davidson enthusiasts entertained for hours and makes a great gift for Harley riders who are usually so tough to shop for!

THURSDAY NEWS FROM THE TRIKE MONK:

Visit www.BikernetTrikes.com for new features and adventures and ride.

Audi CEO drops plan to sell motorcycle brand Ducati

INGOLSTADT: Germany’s Audi has abandoned plans to sell its Italian motorcycle brand Ducati, its chief executive Rupert Stadler said, in a sign of confidence that the carmaker expects to be able to carry the costs of its transformation.

Steps to reduce costs by 10 billion euros ($11.8 billion), cut red tape and deepen ties with fellow Volkswagen-owned brand Porsche are “gradually increasing our financial and organisational leeway for the strategic realignment,” chief executive Rup ..

There is therefore no economic need to sell Ducati, Stadler said. Volkswagen asked banks to evaluate options for Ducati and transmissions maker Renk earlier this year as seeks to become more nimble in its shift towards electric and self-driving cars following its diesel emissions cheating scandal.

“I can assure you that Ducati belongs to the Audi family,” said Stadler. “Ducati is the perfect implementation of our premium philosophy in the world of motorbikes.”

The plans had already stalled in the summer when VW’s powerful labour unions, backed by the controlling Porsche-Piech families, opposed the logic and need for asset sales given the group’s financial resilience.

Investors and potential Ducati buyers, however, expect that VW could change its mind again and eventually opt to sell the asset which they say has least strategic importance to VW.

Audi, which owns Ducati and Italian supercar maker Lamborghini, last month reported higher operating profit and revenue for the first nine months, helped by growing auto demand in the higher-margin western European and U.S. markets.

“It’s a sign that we can slowly shift from crisis mode back into standard operation,” Stadler said, predicting the check-ups to be completed by the end of the first quarter.

Arizona to Consider Legalizing Motorcycle Lane Splitting
Long accepted as standard practice in California, Arizona will debate the controversial practice in the state Senate.

Arizona has become the latest state to introduce legislation that could make it legal for motorcycles to pass between slower cars in traffic, a practice known as “lane splitting.”

The Phoenix New Times reports that State Senator David Farnsworth has introduced S.B. 1007, which would eliminate the wording that currently bans lane splitting. It would also add provisions for guidelines regulating the practice. Farnsworth says he’s not “passionate” about the bill himself but introduced it because one of his constituents asked him to.

“I honestly wonder whether it’s safe,” Farnsworth told the Phoenix New Times. “But I also think, man, what a practical thing for the motorcycle rider, because he’s going to get there a lot faster than I will.” Farnsworth hopes the bill will encourage debate and discussion both for and against the practice, including studies and statistic to demonstrate or disprove its safety.

Most of the world outside the U.S. and Canada permit lane splitting. Lane splitting has been a long accepted “not illegal” practice in California and was officially legalized last year. A few other states, such as Oregon, have introduced their own bills to legalize it, but so far none have passed into law.

The American Motorcyclist Association approaches the topic of lane splitting with caution, but generally approves of it as long as it’s done safely and responsibly. Not only does it get motorcyclists where they’re going faster than the cars stuck in traffic, it’s also much safer, eliminating the possibility of getting hit from behind at high speed by an inattentive driver who doesn’t notice the traffic slowdown.

But the idea faces opposition from those who believe that it is too dangerous for motorcycles to split between cars. Among those organizations is the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Arizona Department of Transportation, and the Department of Public Safety. Reports and videos of motorcycles speeding through traffic unsafely have no doubt given opponents ammunition to shoot down legislation to legalize responsible lane splitting. Even the AMA recognizes the hazards of lane splitting, specifically retraining drivers that the practice is allowed and to look for bikes next to them before changing lanes.

As a motorcyclist myself, I’m in favor of legal lane splitting, but I also can’t see it working in my native Massachusetts. I think drivers here are too aggressive and inattentive for bikes to split lanes safely. While Californians will often move over to give motorcycles room to pass, Boston drivers would likely block motorcycles intentionally, or at least by accident. Still, I’d like to see lane splitting legalized so that I’d have the option to do it if I feel it’s safe. Making it legal only means you’re allowed to do it, not that it’s required.

I’ll weigh in on splitting lanes. For this effort to be successful motorists must be convinced of the four-wheeler benefits. Lane splitting takes motorcycles out of the traffic pattern quick. It prevents rear-ending potential accidents and reduces congestion. It removes loud motorcycles from annoying motorists in front of them or behind.–Bandit

Riders slam ‘stupid’ EDSA motorcycle ban

MANILA – Armed with placards and stickers bearing the message “stop stupid laws,” hundreds of motorcycle riders converged along EDSA early Sunday to protest a plan banning them from plying the major thoroughfare.

Manila mayors last week said they were studying the proposed policy to reduce the number of vehicles and road crash incidents in EDSA.

There is no law justifying the plan that would “discriminate” riders paying the same road tax as other motorists, Jobert Bolaños of the Motorcycle Riders Organization told ABS-CBN during his group’s protest at the EDSA People Power Monument.

Motorcycles, he added, are not prone to causing accidents and traffic jams because they are flexible and agile.

Protesters also slammed the intensified enforcement of the motorcycle or blue lanes along EDSA, which bar them from weaving in and out of traffic.

The policy endangers motorcycle riders as this gives them only 100 meters to exit EDSA, said Joseph Lomotan of the Batang Ilog Riders Club.

Around 70,000 motorcycles traverse EDSA, data from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) showed.

In 2016, a total of 21,403 motorcycle-related accidents occurred in the metropolis, 238 of which were fatal. Some 17,800 accidents involving motorcycles have been recorded from January to October this year, said MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialogo.

Google Maps New Motorcycle Navigation Mode Goes Live

The new feature will enable two-wheeler owners to easily navigate through heavy traffic in their cities as Google Map will now provide them with the shortest route to the destination.

Tech giant, Google, in its latest update has rolled out a new feature that will help two-wheelers while commuting through the city. In the latest update on google maps, the Silicon Valley tech company has rolled out a new feature that is dedicated for people commuting on two-wheelers. While it is not known if other countries will also get this feature, India is most definitely the first one to get it. The new feature will enable two-wheeler owners to easily navigate through heavy traffic in their cities as Google Map will now provide them with the shortest route to the destination. You can get this feature with the latest google maps update (v9.67.1).

India is the largest two-wheeler market in the world, and the millions of motorcycle and scooter riders have different navigation needs than drivers of automobiles. Two-wheeler mode in Maps shows trip routes that use “shortcuts” not accessible to cars and trucks. It also provides customized traffic and arrival time estimations. And since so many Indians rely on local landmarks for navigation, two-wheeler mode will show major landmarks on the route so that riders can plan their trip before starting, and don’t have to keep checking the phone on the go.

The new Two-wheeler feature on Google Maps will continue to provide customized routing and voice-guided navigation, apart from the enhanced landmark navigation feature. The new feature will most definitely help the two-wheeler community in the country as Google Maps will now help to navigate you through heavy traffic.

UNCLE MONKEY ON XMAS–

As we close out the year and gather with family and friends to celebrate Christmas and the holidays it is a time to steal a few moments for you for a little self reflection.

For my younger readers I will tell you time goes by a lot quicker than you think. Twenty five years, an eternity, passes by within a couple of years. I know it is hard to believe but trust me that future self will be looking back at you in the mirror sooner rather than later.

While you plan to use your body up, wearing it out arriving on death’s doorstep well used, I can tell you, you don’t want to spend the last years of your life watching it go by. Take care of yourself, your body, your mind will ensure that wild a crazy ride will be worth it.

My doctors told me I’d be in a wheelchair by the time I was 40. I changed my lifestyle, rode my bike a little less than I liked, left the heavy lifting to wits and charm and not bravado and I’ve seen 40 come and go and I’m still riding, still getting down on the floor to play with my granddaughter. Invest in yourself. You’ll collect the dividends before you realize.

For my older readers remember when riding pass those 55+ clubs and thinking how old those people were. All those things you said you would do, all those things you did do.

Remember when five or ten years was a long time. Now grand kids are growing faster than the whiskers on your face. Time isn’t going to stop but that doesn’t mean you have to. Pick up a new hobby, hell revisit an old hobby that you haven’t thought about in decades.

It is never too late to start looking after yourself.

Stop judging the young kids today; stop being “that old guy”. Dance the old lady around the kitchen, plant the flowers that others stop and smell. Appreciate your lot in life; it is better than you think.

For everyone it is time to accept difference, accept change. Time to refresh old traditions and start new ones. Time to put commercialism and possessions to the side and get swept up in the moment.

Sing along at the concert; invest in the moments around the table because those people will not always be there. Invest in the moment and not the price tag. Fall in love again. Fall in love with the hard steel and curves of your bike, the road. The feel of texture leather, paint, motherhood under your finger tips. This moment is worth all the gold.

A SPIRITUAL MESSAGE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR– Subject: Walter Barnes…a 98 year old man with no enemies

A man with no enemies. Let’s each pray we can do the same!!!!

Meet Walter Barnes

All golfers should live so long as to become this kind of old man!

Toward the end of the Sunday service, the Minister asked,
“How many of you have forgiven your enemies?”

80% held up their hands. The Minister then repeated
his question. All responded this time, except one man,
Walter Barnes.

“Mr. Barnes, are you not willing to forgive your enemies?”

“I don’t have any,” he replied gruffly.

“Mr. Barnes, that is very unusual. How old are you?”

“Ninety-eight,” he replied The congregation
stood up and clapped their hands.

“Oh, Mr. Barnes, would you please come down in front
and tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years and
not have an enemy in the world?”

The old golfer tottered down the aisle, stopped in front of
the pulpit, turned around, faced the congregation, and said
simply, “I outlived all them assholes.”

Then he calmly returned to his seat.

An Inconvenient Deception: How Al Gore Distorts Climate Science and Energy Policy

by Roy W. Spencer, Ph. D
.
Al Gore has provided a target-rich environment of deceptions in his new movie.

After viewing Gore’s most recent movie, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, and after reading the book version of the movie, I was more than a little astounded. The new movie and book are chock-full of bad science, bad policy, and factual errors.

So, I was inspired to do something about it. I’d like to announce my new e-book, entitled An Inconvenient Deception: How Al Gore Distorts Climate Science and Energy Policy, now available on Amazon.com.

After reviewing some of Gore’s history in the environmental movement, I go through the movie, point by point.

One of Gore’s favorite tactics is to show something that happens naturally, then claim (or have you infer) that it is due to humanity’s greenhouse gas emissions. As I discuss in the book, this is what he did in his first movie (An Inconvenient Truth), too.

For example, sea level rise. Gore is seen surveying flooded streets in Miami Beach.

That flooding is mostly a combination of (1) natural sea level rise (I show there has been no acceleration of sea level rise beyond what was already happening since the 1800s), and (2) satellite-measured sinking of the reclaimed swamps that have been built upon for over 100 years in Miami Beach.

In other words, Miami Beach was going to have to deal with the increasing flooding from their “king tides”, with or without carbon dioxide emissions.

Gore is also shown jumping across meltwater streams on the Greenland ice sheet. No mention is made that this happens naturally every year. Sure, 2012 was exceptional for its warmth and snow melt (which he mentioned), but then 2017 came along and did just the opposite with record snow accumulation, little melt, and the coldest temperature ever recorded in the Northern Hemisphere for a July.

The fact that receding glaciers in Alaska are revealing stumps from ancient forests that grew 1,000 to 2,000 years ago proves that climate varies naturally, and glaciers advance and recede without any help from humans.

So, why is your SUV suddenly being blamed when it happens today?

The list goes on and on.

Some of what Gore claims is just outright false. He says that wheat and corn yields in China are down by 5% in recent decades. Wrong. They have been steadily climbing, just like almost everywhere else in the world. Here’s the situation for all grain crops in China:

And that lack of rainfall in Syria that supposedly caused conflict and war? It didn’t happen. Poor farmers could no longer afford diesel fuel to pump groundwater because Assad tripled the price. Semi-arid Syria is no place to grow enough crops for a rapidly growing population, anyway.

I also address Gore’s views on alternative energy, mainly wind and solar. It is obvious that Gore does not consider government subsidies when he talks about the “cost” of renewable energy sometimes being cheaper than fossil fuels. Apparently, he hasn’t heard that the citizens pay the taxes that then support the alternative energy industries which Gore, Elon Musk and others financially benefit from. If and when renewable energy become cost-competitive, it won’t need politicians and pundits like Mr. Gore campaigning for it.

To counter what is in movie theaters now, I had to whip up this book in only 2 weeks, and I didn’t have a marching army of well-funded people like Gore has had. (Too bad he didn’t have someone doing fact-checking.) Despite my disadvantage, I think I present a powerful case that most of what he presents is, at the very least, very deceptive.

VET Tips for Beating the Holiday Blues–

It is no accident the Merle Haggard song “If We Make it Through December” was a big hit. Every year a number of people get the ‘blues’ around the holidays. There are many reasons people may go through holiday ‘blues.’ https://www.myhealth.va.gov/mhv-portal-web/documents/12612/0/HolidayBlues.jpg/7e0cf781-4279-2f89-9ee3-d602b31b9c1b?t=1513695079168

Beyond normal stress, low energy, money concerns, and demands of the season, Veterans often have added pressures. Parties and large family gatherings can cause stress for those with PTSD. Many Veterans are diabetic, and events centered on food can add to feelings of loss. Hospitalization or illness can lead to feelings of isolation.

Simple things you can do to help manage holiday blues:
Be realistic about what you can and cannot do.
Do not be afraid to ask for help. Let others share in planning for events.
Make a list. Organize your time. Save time for yourself!
Get enough rest. It is difficult to cope when you are tired.
Look toward the future. Do not dwell on the past. Each holiday season is unique and should be enjoyed.

Enjoy free holiday activities. Look at holiday lights, go window-shopping, or take in a community or church program.

Spend time with people you care about. Reach out and make new friends. Contact someone you have not heard from in a while.

Acknowledge your feelings. Recognize and accept that both good and bad feelings may occur during the holidays. This is normal.

Set limits. It is easy to overindulge around the holidays. Maintain a balanced diet. Do not drink too much alcohol. Drinking alcohol may increase your feelings of depression.

Consider volunteering. Remember the spirit of giving for the holidays. You can help at a non-profit organization. You can visit a shut-in. Your VA Voluntary Service has many opportunities to touch the lives of Veterans.

While holiday blues are common, it is important to prevent these blues from becoming clinical depression. In both holiday blues and clinical depression, you feel tired, sad, and have difficulty sleeping (insomnia). The blues seldom lasts beyond the holidays or longer than two weeks. If these feelings are severe or long lasting, please call your health care team.

If you are feeling depressed, call someone. Talk to a friend, family member, clergy or healthcare provider. At every VA hospital there is a Chaplain available to talk. If you have feelings of despair, or afraid you might hurt yourself or someone else please call the Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline 1-800-273-TALK, and press 1.

Remember it is common for people to be blue during the holidays. The VA has people who know how to help you manage these feelings.

XMAS AND CLOSING OUT 2017— Life is amazing. Last year was supposed to be a strong one for me. My stars were aligned and so forth. It was a good year, but I have a sense that 2018 will be special for all of us.

There’s a sense of a turning point, or growth, of creation and freedom. The evils will be exposed, the freedom will step out strong once more.

We are going to feature Tabor Nash’s wild rowdy racer in the next couple of weeks.

A brother is looking for an old Militor. If you have one from the ‘20s hanging around let us know.

The boss of Cycle Source gave Markus an assignment to shoot my Swap meet Panhead. The registration is moving forward. I have new progressive fork springs for the old glide. I received an oil pressure gauge for the S&S oil pump and I fixed the funky footboards. It should be ready for the shoot by next week.

We are heading back to Bonneville in 2018 and I’m going to build a Bronze Sculpture for a Hamster Charity Auction. I may also build a trophy for The Tropical Tattoo Bike Week Bike Show this year and get to hang out with Rogue and SmokeOut Edge.

I was trying to help out Cary Brobeck with the deal to buy Easyriders, but something slipped and I stepped away. That’s one project off the list. It’s looking very good for 2018 and I’ll let folks know more in the near future.

Merry Xmas and Ride Free Forever,
