We are looking for two road warriors who share a love for eating, an enthusiasm for badass motorcycles and most importantly, a passion for food! Together, you’ll discover America’s Heartland and all of its traditions while digging right in with the locals tasting slices of life!
If you know your food as well as the history and process behind it, look like you mean business on the outside, but have the good ole boy quality inside and love riding your motorcycles, you could be our guys!
Ideally, we’re searching for two long-time buddies who have a funny banter while sharing a passion for food and the open road. BUT, if you are an individual who fits the description above, that works too.
If interested, please send the following info:
Name, City, Contact Info, a few recent photos of yourself (include both close up and full length and show us your bike!), a brief bio and tell us why you’d be right for this!

WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED IN 2,066 YEARS, FROM THE BIKERNET UNIVERSITY–“The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt.
People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

NEW FLORIDA SAFETY SIGNAGE–This is another venue I am working on in the state of Florida, not only for motorcycles, but for everyone who use our roads as a safety message. I have sent it to as many officials in Tallahassee, local government, etc. and hope to get some input. I got a letter from the state of Washington with these signs in place, and he asked if we had them since I was doing the Look-Twice campaign, I almost jumped out of my skin-HOW AWESOME ARE THESE SIGNS. Maybe the more who write to their local officials someone might listen.
Attached you will find 2 pictures of Look Twice signs that are attached directly under a stop sign. They were sent to me from Tom Fite in the state of Washington. He is trying to implement more of these signs on City and County roads in his state. I have been writing to everyone who I thought could help me try to do the same here in Florida. My name is Diane Pearson and I have become a Mother on a Mission for Motorcycle Awareness here in the state since the death of my son Gene. If you have seen the purple/white bumper stickers that say LOOK TWICE-SAVE A LIFE MOTORCYCLES ARE EVERYWHERE, it’s me. I have that life saving message on every type of outdoor venues you can think of. To view them all please find the time to go to www.genepearson.org to get a feel for what I have been doing with a passion to save lives.
The attached pictures tell all those who use our roads the NEED to
STOP!! then LOOK TWICE. Far too many people are being killed on our
roads today, and we must do everything we can to get the attention of
the motorist. Lately people riding bicycles or just crossing the street
have been killed, not to mention the motorcyclist who are venerable
also. Can you please help me in my cause? Can you send this in the
right direction to the right people who would even consider it.
My main focus has been REPETITION because I believe it will bring RETENTION.
The more you see something the more you remember it. I have handed out
250,000 free bumper stickers with that message on it. 10,000 go out on
a monthly basis, and I get no type of financial help, so I am not doing
this for monetary gain, I am a non profit 501(c)(3). I do this to save
lives in memory of my son, and I hope you can help me do that.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this
and I hope to hear from you soon.

SOFTAIL PROJECT UPDATE– The rear caliper is still being machined buy it looks like it’ll work. Joker Machine hand controls are on and the location of the Dakota Digital speedo is mocked up.
Those pipes were on a Veteran’s Day Special for $1 off of a wrecked softail. And the police fender was $25. But Custom Coatings says they are gonna make something special of it.
Will send more as things progress.
Oh and a Broward Sherriff Sergeant is trading my used closed primary for a new in the box BDL open belt drive (he’s worried his gal will get her foot swallowed). Still working on forward controls, kickstand, smooth dash panel and final seat position.

When things finally do slow down and we have lots of spare time on our hands, that’s when money gets tight. Progress slows to a halt. Quicker, easier projects get moved ahead. Why finish building your scratch built bike when you can throw new tins on a wrecked Harley and ride now?
Slowly and eventually projects get done.
But where do you draw the line? We all have a project sitting in the corner of the garage or behind it, under tarps waiting for us to step up. Life has taken us on a journey far away, time changes, tastes change, our health changes. Rigid hardtail bobbers lose their appeal, when our backs can no longer take them. Fat tire bikes, blown pro-street cars have gone the way of the do-do bird. Even though sporadic, we invested time and money into waning projects. We don’t want to lose that investment, even though it’s spread out over decades. We promise our love ones that we will finish it one day, but deep inside we know we moved on. Stubborn pride keeps us from admitting it. We make half hearted attempts to sell it, spreading the word that it is available, coming to terms what it is really worth compared to what we put into it.
Some projects end up that way, forgotten, incomplete, unwanted. They end up crushed or rusting away in some field as prime garage floor space is dedicated to more current, more urgent projects. So the next time you see an old car or truck sitting patiently beside a shed or a disassemble bike leaning against a barn remember that some one had big plans for it one time.

CALIFORNIA DMV DRIVERS HANDBOOK DISCOVERY– Motorcycles are mentioned in two different parts of the 2010 DMV “Drivers Handbook” printed mainly for auto drivers. On page 34 under the heading of “carpool/HOV lanes” it states that “Motorcycle riders may use designated (HOV)lanes, unless otherwise posted”. And on pages 59 & 60 under the subject of (sharing the road with) Motorcycles, they dedicated a full page of information regarding “folowing these rules to respect he right-of-way and safely share the road with motorcyclists”. Including “Motorcycles may travel faster than traffic during congested road conditions and can legally travel in the unused space between two lines of moving or stationary vehicles, which is commonly called “Lane Splitting”.

BIKERNET SOUTH AFRICAN REPORTER/DESIGNER CHECKS IN–I’ve been away from bikes for a while, but your advice about me getting off my butt and building nagged at me for a long time. I took your advice bro. We South Africans are supposed to be a bunch of conservative Rednecks with different accents, but when I tell you this Bobber is going to rock the world you gotta believe me.
I don’t have a camera so excuse the cell phone pics. My bud will take some professional shots when it’s assembled but here are a few of the oil tank. It contains 85 components including the screws, etc. I should have the bike together early next year. You inspired me and I thank you.

BIKERNET THURSDAY HOLIDAY SAFETY ALERT–Thought it would be better to get this out before the Holidays.
Please, take care of yourself. A recent joint study conducted by the Department of Health and the Department of Motor Vehicles indicates that 23% of traffic accidents are alcohol related.
This means that the remaining 77% are caused by assholes who drink bottled water, Starbucks, soda, juice, energy drinks and shit like that.
Therefore, beware of those who do not drink alcohol. They cause three times as many accidents.
This message is sent to you by someone who is a drinker and worries about your safety.
Happy Holidays!

FEDERALLY SUPPORTED DISCRIMINATORY BIKER ROAD BLOCKS GRANT–NY Mandatory Bike Stop Sign In an effort to supposedly increase motorcycle safety and law enforcement’s awareness and improving motorcycle safety, NHTSA will award up to five (5) demonstration grants to law enforcement agencies around the country to fund and conduct “safety” checkpoints specific to motorcycles similar to those conducted by the NY State Police in 2007 and 2008 in Dutchess County. Phone: (845) 677-7300.
The NHTSA program funding ranges between $70,000 to $350,000 per agency and was posted 7/13/10.
For a little background on the NY experience, in 2007, the NY State Police launched a pilot program for conducting motorcycle safety checkpoints to:
(1) educate law enforcement on motorcycle safety issues;
(2) increase law enforcement communication with motorcyclists;
(3) distribute motorcycle safety materials to motorcyclists;
(4) and enforce all laws associated with motorcycles and motorcyclists.
The NYSP expanded this program and conducted a series of motorcycle safety check points in 2008. An article discussing this program was published in Police Chief Magazine and can be found online at:
Checkpoints & Education: The NY Experience
http://policechiefmagazine.org/magazine/index.cfm?fuseaction=display_arch&article_id=1536&issue_id=n008
Basically what is fully at risk here is our freedom to ride because of Federally funded discriminatory motorcycle checkpoint stops that don’t require any probable cause other than riding a bike.
Here is the crux of the grant requirements (from grant pages 6 and 20):
Within thirty (30) months of the Cooperative Agreement award date, the Grantee shall conduct a minimum of three (3) motorcycle safety checkpoints each year for two (2) years within its jurisdiction under this Cooperative Agreement. The Grantee shall collect and maintain basic data for each motorcycle safety checkpoint it conducts, which shall include the approximate number of contacts made with motorcyclists per checkpoint, the approximate number and type of safety materials distributed to motorcyclists per checkpoint, and the number and type of citations issued per checkpoint…
The total ‘not-to-exceed’ amount of the Federal funding to be provided under this Cooperative Agreement is $350,000.
To read and download the NHTSA Grant program text and application:
Go to: http://www.grants.gov
Click “Grant Search” on the right of the page under FOR APPLICANTS
In the Searh by Funding Opportunity Number field, type: DTNH22-10-R-00386
Click “Motorcycle Law Enforcement Demonstrations”
The you can see the Synopsis, here with a link to the Full Announcement and Application PDFs but the NHTSA site may have updated ones in the future.
The American Motorcycle Association (AMA) has been working on the issue with the NYSP and the DOT and NHTSA for some time. I am told they are to issue a news alert soon, so if you are not on their list go their website to signup.
What can you do?
Well currently (7/23/10) no NHTSA awards have been awarded, but you can still contact your state senators and representatives and complain that the NHTSA is using our tax dollars to fund a program that targets bikers. Unlike Arizona where the law doesn’t specify a type of person, but “may” result in racial profiling, in this case the target is defined and profiling would be, in fact, part of the program. This has to be unconstitutional not to mention a waste of our tax dollars.
Write, Write, Write: Write the individuals below and also your state senators and representatives about the use of our tax dollars for grant programs that discriminate against motorcyclists that result in traffic stops without any probable cause simply because they are on a bike! LaHood and Metheke generally don’t take calls, so writing seems your best approach, plus you’ll have a written record and will hopefully get a response. Be sure to refer to the name of the grant and it’s funding number listed above. For your senator(s) or representatives be sure to give them the instructions on how to obtain the Synopsis, Full Announcement and Application above.

POLARIS MOVES TO MEXICO– I forwarded an article about Polaris’s big show in LA. They plan to hand out dividends. I’m not particularly happy with Polaris after their decision to shut down in western Wisc. and Iowa plants in order to move to Mexico. What particularly bothers me is that Polaris made the move prematurely.
Now that the people of Wisconsin have kicked the stinking democrats out of power, Wisconsin could be a great place for Polaris to be. Now they’re out all of those jobs. I hope they start to make their snowmobiles in Mexico. They can take their shit out of Minnesota too………

WILL CARS EVER CHANGE? HERE’S THE AMAZING ANSWER FROM GM–
KRYLON JOHN SUPPORTS DAVID MANN CHOPPER FEST–With David Mann Chopper Fest held in Ventura, CA. only a few days away I wanted to post a detailed story on David Mann’s Urn. What I didn’t plan on was computer problems that would make it a bit harder to do. My photo archives of the burial urn we made for Dave as of early this morning are locked away somewhere in computer hell, on my G5’s external hard drive. It seems to have packed it in.
David passed away on 9/11/04 just one day after his 64th birthday. I don’t remember the exact details right now, but somehow it was decided we’d make an Urn for Dave. I came up with the design to replicate Dave’s bike using a 2.25-gallon Sportster tank mounted on a reproduction of his bike. The David Mann red paint used on the urn is from the same can of paint I used to shoot Dave’s tank in the mid-’90s. All of the custom paint, and fabricating work on Dave’s Urn was done by Kenny Morris at Hot Rods ‘N Hogs in Stanton, California.
It was Gene Koch, Drag Specialties’ west coast rep, who donated the neck cups, and gas cap. The steering head section whacked from a rigid frame was donated by Chica, in Huntington Beach, California. The custom made wood base was built by Jim Torres. In retrospect, I wish we had engraved a plaque on the Urn’s base that read “David Mann 9-10-40 – 9-11-04.” The Urn debuted at the 1st Annual Chopper Fest, but few people that walked by the table seemed to know that it was David’s Urn.

MISSOURI DUNS H-D OVER TAX CREDIT REPORT–Harley-Davidson is the largest company on a list that Missouri has fined a collective $1 million for failing to file reports related to tax credits.
The law was passed in 2004 after questions arose about companies that had received $2 million in tax breaks for computers that were never bought. Indeed, the companies might not have been real.
Harley-Davidson, which has been putting the screws to workers at its plants iincluding a manufacturing plant in Kansas City, was cited for missing a June 30, 2009, deadline to report on $5.5 million of tax credits, according to the Southeast Missourian.
Harley-Davidson spokesman Bob Klein told the Associated Press he was not familiar with the Missouri tax credit reports and had no immediate comment.
The issues came to light as the state considers cutting its tax credit subsidies in half to save the state $220 million a year.

On the other hand, if they can get their shit together, and not destroy this country in the process, life is a wonderful place full of fantastic creative exploits, if they don’t regulated us to death.
So, I say we keep building choppers and chasing redheads until they take all our tools away. Sometimes I think about escaping Los Angeles, and regulation bound (what happened to the freedom loving hippies?) California, for a freedom fortress in the Arizona desert. We should get together and buy an off-the-beaten-path town, call it Chopperville, fire all the cops, and let loud pipes save lives.
