SADDLEMEN OPENS SEATS-ON-SALE WEB PAGE–As the busiest seasons for riding wind down each year, we sometimes end up with some extra seats on our shelves. This can be a great opportunity for buyers to get a top-of-the-line Saddlemen seat shipped out to them immediately. We’ve opened a new section on our web page listing these seats on our shelves, ready to head home to you, and your motorcycle.

These items are likely to clear out fast, so we strongly advise calling our sales staff here, toll-free, at (800) 397-7709 when ordering from this “on the shelf”? list, to make sure that the saddle in question has not been sold. Some of the types listed have only a single seat left.

As always, Saddlemen produces new, made-to-order seats throughout the year. Any of the saddles highlighted in this section will still be available as normal production items. We offer this listing of inventory to help clear our shelves, and so that the riding public can immediately get Saddlemen saddles installed on their bikes before prime riding weather fades across much of the nation…

Leno

Leno’s Star VMAX is the star of Barrett-Jackson auction and helps NYC community arts program to the Max–October 12, 2009 Cypress, CA – Jay Leno auctioned off his customized Star VMAX motorcycle to benefit a Brooklyn community arts program run by one of his oldest friends. His lighthearted approach to auctioneering earned the charity some serious money!

Saturday evening, as live coverage of the Barrett-Jackson classic car auction from Las Vegas reached its climax, Jay Leno put his star power to good use. In a town that worships celebrity and is perhaps the world’s capital of stand-up comedy, Leno’s definitely at the top of the ‘A-list.’ Add that to his celebrity amongst car collectors and the fact that the sale was to benefit Bailey’s Cafe, a worthy charity, and the stage was set for an epic auction.

LenoAuction

Bailey’s Cafe? is a community arts program that operates in a tough Brooklyn neighborhood. It was founded by Stefanie Siegel, who was a close friend of Leno’s during their college days. The two had not seen each other for 18 years, until they met in the VIP ‘green room’ behind the stage at the Mandalay Bay convention center.

Backstage, as the two old friends caught up and anticipated the sale, Leno kept an eye on the television monitor. “I thought that Shelby Cobra would go for more,” he said, adding, “It’s a tough economy.”

Still, once Leno himself rode the VMAX onto the Barrett-Jackson stage, bidding on the bike, which featured an old-school hot rod-style paint job by Benny Flores, quickly reached $60,000. Although it seemed the bidding might stall there, Leno had the crowd enthralled. He sweetened the pot with a Garmin GPS system, then his Alpinestars jacket and Arai helmet, and a personal tour of his garage. As the bids reached $70,000-$80,000, Yamaha’s Bob Starr announced that Yamaha’s musical instrument division had donated 6 guitars and a drum set to the arts program. That prompted Leno to virtually demand bidders pony up another $5,000.

When the hammer finally fell, Jay’s customized Star VMAX sold for $120,000. That’s nearly 8 times MSRP. And, Jay was right… 100% of the proceeds did go to Bailey’s Cafe?, because Barrett-Jackson donated all the transaction’s fees to the cause, as well. Stefanie Siegel, the founder of Bailey’s Cafe? had never been to ‘Vegas until that day. She left on Sunday as one of the town’s big winners.

Before the auction, Jay had joked that, “Bailey’s Cafe? is an arts program, but I didn’t have any Yamaha musical instruments to sell, so I thought I’d sell my Star VMAX, which is made by Yamaha.” Either way, Stefanie Siegel and Bailey’s Cafe? left town as one of the weekend’s big winners. You might say $120,000 to the good.

BIKERNET POLITICAL PANEL DISCUSSES RACISM– Everyone is in a hurry to scream “racism” these days!

“In what aisle could I find the Polish sausage?”

The clerk looks at him and says, “Are you Polish?”

The guy (clearly offended) says, “Well, yes I am. But let me ask yousomething. If I had asked for Italian sausage would you ask me if I was Italian? Or if I had asked for German bratwurst, would you ask me if I was German? Or if I asked for a kosher hot dog would you ask me if I was Jewish? Or if I had asked for a Taco would you ask if I was Mexican? Would you? Would you?”

The clerk says, “Well, no!”

“If I asked for some Irish whiskey, would you ask if I was Irish?”

“Well, I probably wouldn’t!”

With deep self-righteous indignation, the guy says, “Well then, why did you ask me if I’m Polish because I asked for Polish sausage?”

The clerk replies, “Because you’re in Home Depot”.

Polaris Reports Third Quarter 2009 Results; a look at Victory Motorcycle results–Polaris (parent company of Victory Motorcycles,) has just released its recent financials. We streamlined the full release in length to focus more on results for the other major American motorcycle manufacturer, Victory Motorcycles.

Polaris

Third Quarter Highlights: * Net income of $0.94 per diluted share for the third quarter 2009 exceeded Company expectations. Sales declined 25% to $436.2 million in the third quarter 2009, in-line with expectations. Gross profit margin percentage for the third quarter of 2009 improved by 160 basis points to 24.1% due primarily to product cost reductions, lower commodity costs and improved product mix Raising and narrowing full year 2009 earnings guidance to a range of $2.92 to $2.98 per diluted share, compared to previous EPS guidance of $2.70 to $2.90 per diluted share. Factory and dealer inventories each decreased 18% in the third quarter 2009 versus last year. During the quarter, the Company unveiled more than 25 new model year 2010 ATV, side-by-side and motorcycle products

Victory

Sales of the On-road division, which today primarily consists of Victory motorcycles, decreased 56 percent during the third quarter of 2009 when compared to the same period in 2008. The decrease reflects the continuing planned reduction in shipments of Victory motorcycles to dealers in North America and increased promotional activities during the third quarter to assist dealers` efforts in further reducing their inventory levels.

The overall motorcycle industry retail sales environment continued to be weak during the third quarter 2009, with industry wide North American retail sales of heavyweight cruiser and touring motorcycles over 1400cc decreasing in the high twenty percent range compared to the same period last year.

Victory retail sales to consumers declined more than the industry wide sales during the 2009 third quarter. Although dealer inventory levels of Victory motorcycles are 22 percent lower at the end of the 2009 third quarter compared to the third quarter last year, further reductions are needed.

The Company has taken a number of proactive measures to reinvigorate retail sales including, adding personnel and resources, streamlining the product line-up, increasing promotions and expanding its international market presence.

To remain competitive in the market and further expand its product offerings, the Company introduced two new touring motorcycles for model year 2010, the Cross Country and Cross Roads models, both targeted at the large touring motorcycle market segment. Additionally, several value oriented models were added to the Victory line for model year 2010.

During the 2009 third quarter the on-road division began shipping the Polaris Breeze, the Company`s first electric powered low emission vehicle, to a select number of neighborhood vehicle dealerships. The initial response to the product by dealers and consumers has been positive.

Bubs
BUB 7 is now the fastest motorcycle on the planet. Chris Carr set a new FIM world record & AMA national record at 367.382 mph thru the mile with an exit speed of 372.534 mph at the Cook Private Meet at the Bonneville Salt Flats Utah.

BUB Enterprises puts Janesville, Wisconsin factory on the market–Exhaust specialist and (again!) current world motorcycle land speed record holding team owner Denis Manning has announced that he is putting his Janesville, Wisconsin, factory up for sale.

Bubsfront2

“Several years ago, the location offered many advantages to us, but with the changes we announced to our business model a year ago and with two factories in Grass Valley, California, the Wisconsin plant is now surplus to requirements” Manning told AMD Magazine.

Bubsweldig

Bubsside

The 35,000 sq ft facility sits on a 5 acre site and comes “complete and fully equipped for the manufacture of motorcycle exhausts” with a “fully trained workforce available for hire”, and with intellectual property, according to Manning.

Bubs back

The factory had originally been bought and commissioned as an alternate to further expansion in California, and as a cost saving measure, given that for the exhausts it used to sell through the LeMans group (BUB decided to self-distribute and go dealer-direct 12 months ago) the company was sourcing raw materials in Wisconsin, shipping them to California, then shipping finished product back to Janesville.
