The 23-year-old blonde from Gillette, Wyoming, does not only have a great body and cute smile, but also knows how to ride motorcycles. She delivers the proof in the upcoming movie ‘Easy Rider: The Ride Back’ which had its director’s cut world premiere in Las Vegas three weeks ago. We met Britt there and look very much forward to seeing more of her soon.

If you are in Pomona for the AMA Pro Flat Track Races this weekend, you should keep an eye out for her: Britt has just been named ‘Miss AMA Pro Pomona’. She will be welcoming the crowd during the opening ceremonies and shoot the t-shirt cannon. During the races, she will be the 10-second girl in front of the riders prior to the start, and, when all is said and done, she’ll be the trophy girl on the podium. Those who attend the awards ceremony on Sunday evening at 6:30 pm at the Fairplex Sheraton will have a chance to meet her again.

Mike Kidd, AMA Pro Racing’s Director of Flat Track, promises us ? We will keep her busy!!? – sure sounds like it.

Rinehart Racing has entered into a new state of the art manufacturing arrangement with Clearline Industries, LLC for the manufacturing of its motorcycle performance exhaust product line. WASHINGTON UPDATE FROM MRF–Motorcycle Crash Causation Study–It was recently announced, and reported by the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), that the federal government is proceeding with the motorcycle crash causation study. This is news for a number of reasons, as the study has been on virtual life support for the past few years.

A Quick Background on the Study:

Originally mandated and partially funded by the SAFETEA-LU legislation passed in 2005, the original concept of the study was to mimic the European Motorcycle Accident In-Depth Study (MAIDS), using the same OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) methodology that the Europeans used. Utilizing that methodology, the study was supposed to investigate 1200 motorcycle crashes and collect 1500 data points on each crash.

Unfortunately, the funding formula of the bill was changed at the last minute leaving a $3 million dollar shortfall for the study. Then came the realization that the estimated $6 million price tag for the study was significantly lower than real world costs, estimated to more likely be in the $9 million range. The federal government?s share totaled $3 million and the motorcycle industry pledged $3 million, leaving an additional $3 million unfunded. A cry for help went out to the states to help offset the shortfall and a few responded, contributing about $600 thousand.

It seemed that the only way to get this study underway was to reduce the sample pool from 1200 to around 900. However, chopping the sample size by 25% seriously reduces the validity, sturdiness and scientific merit of the study. When the Feds announced that they must reduce the sample size, private support for funding the study fell dramatically. A motorcycle industry insider said it best, ?We (the motorcycle industry) do have $3 million for a good study, but not a dollar for a bad one.?

At a recent quarterly meeting, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed their only option, besides canceling the study altogether. They have decided to fund the study fully in house, taking the $650 thousand from the states and another $500 grand from the NHTSA coffers. So, what we are left with is a sample size of 300, with a price tag of just over $3 million. It?s disappointing that they have chosen this route. What started off as a possible landmark safety study will now be, without question, scientifically invalid and is not likely to be helpful for the motorcyclists of America.

Harley-Davidson Inc, the biggest US motorcycle maker, will start talks in coming weeks with union workers in York, Pennsylvania, to decide the fate of the company?s largest US manufacturing facility.

Harley has a plan that may keep the plant open with the union local acceptance of work-rule changes, said Pat Sweeney, a spokeswoman. The Milwaukee-based motorcycle maker is still pursuing a second option to relocate production to Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee.

Fundamental change -?We have said from the beginning that our clear preference is to remain in York but only if the company can achieve fundamental change there by changing the labour agreement,? Sweeney said.

The decision will be one of the first major actions taken by Chief Executive Officer Keith Wandell, who took over the post in April. The company is trying to cut costs after posting eight straight declines in quarterly earnings as motorcycle sales shrank in the recession.

Local 175 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers represents hourly employees at the Pennsylvania plant.

The union didn?t return calls for comment. The plant had 2,400 employees as of May 13.

Harley rose 47 cents, or 2 per cent, to $23.75 (Dh87.25) at 4pm in New York Stock Exchange composite trading on Friday. Shares have risen 40 per cent this year. The York Daily Record reported on the talks.

Last month the Supreme Court found in favour of the Finks motorcycle club, that a part of the Act concerning control orders was invalid.

The Premier, Mike Rann says he is confident the High Court appeal will be successful.
