DAYTONA VOTES TO BUILD FENCE TO KEEP RIDERS IN THEIR CITY LIMITS–Daytona wants the Bikers to stay there as opposed to going to activities in other parts of Florida.Orlando, Deland, Cocco Beach and even South Florida have many motorcyclists going there.

Daytona was fairly busy on Monday and you could still get around fairly well.It was definitely leather weather but more that one scantily clad doll could be seen strolling Main Street.

Many loaded motorcycles were seen on I-95 heading south HUH!

COURTNEY HOLAWELL DOWN–The editor of Bike Works recently had a stroke and can no longer work. Primedia hired him to produce 15 magazines a month with no staff and part-time pay. They sent a New York attorney and two thugs to his garage everyday to threaten him. He finally cracked, and of course they won’t pay for any medical bills or any expenses.

So some brothers are getting together to auction off parts and raise money to help the brother out. The website hasn?t been completed yet, but if you?d like to donate you can contact Jason or Curt. So far here’s his list of supporters:

DANNY GRAY INTRODUCES THE BIGSEAT SYSTEM FOR HARLEYS– Today Danny Gray announced the nationwide availability of its all new BigSeat? seat system for the Harley Davidson? performance enthusiast. “We’ve developed a new modular seat platform tailored to a broad range of requirements,” says Danny Gray “and it is designed in a manner so that you can go from two-up long haul touring to solo cruising in about a minute.”

At the core of this system is the BigSeat itself. A solo seat with deep double buckets and positive contour, wide radius hip flair, aggressive leg passes and a narrow nose section- all combine to give the rider extraordinary lower back support, seat comfort and control.

The list of function specific components, such as pillion sizes, backrest options and a variety of insert technologies will continue to expand. Two aesthetic styles of BigSeat are offered through Drag Specialties and personalized seats with exotic leathers and hardware are offered directly through

BIKERNET READER DEVELOPES NEW FUEL TECHNOLOGY–The purpose/result of my visit was the following:I have been working on a technology wherein we could process coal to liquidfuels.I am please to share with you that we have perfected this technology withour pyrolysis system and created a world first.

In conjunction with New Hope Coal Corporation (Australian) we built ourpilot plant late 2005 at Long Beach and then proceeded to trial various coalsand develop our own catalyst (pending patent) with a result being a dieselfuel (ECO FUEL) which includes:

1. Low sulphur and virtually no aromatics. In a properly tuned enginethis leads to lower particle exhaust emissions
2. The absence of sulphur means that oxidation catalysts andparticulate traps will operate at maximum efficiency
3. The existing diesel infrastructure can be used, unchanged
4. Can be used in existing diesel engines

Our system does not produce any of the less desirable co-products from arefinery, and produces a pure CO2 stream that provides an option for thecapture and storage of CO2.

Our NOx and CO more than complies with SCAQMD emission regulations.

We are currently preparing our engineering drawings for the first of 5commercialized plants ($14 million each) which will process 25 tons of coalper hour. Our trials have shown that 25 tons of coal per hour will give us ayield of 9,000 plus litres per hour.

A formal press conference will be held later this month announcing oursuccess.

I will be making numerous visits to Longbeach this year so will make sure wecatch up. Maybe I might make it to the Old bike show.

IN THE WIND MAGAZINE EDITOR CHECKS IN–Not making Daytona this year, no biggie, plenty to do anyway around here.Rode the Wind Rider to Costa Mesa last night to see the Fryed’s playing at aChubs party. TIN MAN REPORT ON DAYTONA–Well Bandit, it’s that time of year again here in sunny Florida where nothing shine’s people on like the media.

With Bike Week kicking, it’s time to run around the state and include every motorcycle accident in the “stats” for this event. Gotta pad them numbers somehow.

I cringe with every newscast knowing we all have to be made aware of the (trumped-up) fatalities. Last year for instance, four of the fatalities were from the day before Bike Week officially started and several others were locals nowhere near Daytona.

The Orlando Sentinal pisses me off the most. They run the same stupid fuckin’ story every day. The one where a “biker” was going a 166 m.p.h. the wrong way, hit a concrete pole, through a fence, then run over by a semi and killed instantly because (insert drum roll)–HE WASN’T WEARING A HELMET.

They continually feed this to the Sheep then take a poll on helmet laws. How fuckin’ stupid is everyone around here? I’ll tell you. 70% in favor of helmets at all times. idiotic fuckin’ Sheep without knowledge and no desire for the TRUTH.

By the way, to make sure no one was injured, all you had to do was click a button on your TV remote to vote.

Sorry if I took up valuable time but I’m so pissed after today’s news I had to tell someone who might give a shit.

HARLEY OWNERS GROUP POSSE RIDE TESTS METTLE OF HARD CORE RIDERS–MILWAUKEE (March 6, 2007) – Rise to the challenge of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) Posse Ride: Great American Adventure and become part of the legend. This 18-day cross-country journey July 13-30, 2007, blazes a 3,200-mile trail through the heartland of the United States.

Throw a leg over a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in Wilmington, Del., with the rest of the Posse and prepare for some serious saddle time. Answer the call of the long, open road as the ride heads along the historic Lincoln Highway (US 30) past the lush, green Appalachian Mountains and through Gettysburg to Greensburg, Pa.

Continuing west on the Lincoln Highway, head over the Ohio River and into the “Buckeye State” where a scenic detour through Dover, Ohio, takes riders past the area’s famed Amish country. Riding through the Great Plains it will feel as if the world truly is flat before this band of enthusiasts rolls into Fort Wayne, Ind., for the night.

With nothing blocking the view of the horizon, focus on the quiet back roads that bypass the great concrete jungles of Chicago and Joliet, Ill. Where the roar of the Mississippi River can be heard over the rumble of a Harley-Davidson, riders will find Dubuque, Iowa, nestled on the banks. Dismount and spend the rest of the day exploring the culture and history of this “river town.”

Heading north to Duluth, Minn., trace either side of the river on the Great River Road, where the bluffs lining both sides of the Mississippi provide many great scenic overlooks. Cruising into Duluth, park the Harley and spend an extra day exploring the town’s attractions, many of which are within walking distance.

Crossing through Minnesota, the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” will provide a sparkling backdrop as the road leads participants through the Chippewa National Forest and on to Fargo, N.D., the “Gateway to the West.”

The call of the open road and the wide open plains of North Dakota beckon the Posse westward towards Dickinson, N.D., home to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. An extra day in Dickinson provides ample opportunity to explore the park, North Dakota’s answer to the South Dakota Badlands.

Soon the Great Plains will be nothing but a distant memory as the stunning gorges, dry creek beds and scenic mesas of Montana welcome travelers to Billings. A true “Western” town, Billings embodies the independent spirit of the American West.

The next leg of the journey, to Missoula, Mont., offers a wide range of scenic routes through the pine-covered national forests, across babbling streams and on challenging switchbacks through the majestic Rocky Mountains.

Ride over the Bitterroot Range via the 5,235-foot Lolo Pass and onto U.S. Highway 12 in Idaho, following the twists and turns of the Lochsa River across northern Idaho. In Washington the road winds another 100 miles into Kennewick, Wash.

With 200 miles left on the trail, follow along the Columbia River Gorge all the way to Oregon. Once in Oregon, keep an eye out for the snow-capped Mt. Hood dominating the view to the south. The final destination of this adventure is Portland, Ore., the place where the first H.O.G. Posse formed ten years ago.

Local Harley-Davidson dealers in each stop on the route will be hosting dealer parties. The public is welcome. Dates, times and locations vary. Visit www.members.hog.com for a detailed schedule of events.

Registration is open to all H.O.G. members beginning February 28, 2007. Event capacity is limited to 800 people. Cost is $500 plus $7 shipping and handling per person for the event package. To register for the H.O.G. Posse Ride: Great American Adventure, members can visit www.members.hog.com or call 1-800-CLUB HOG (258-2464).

Cruisin' Bob's larry art

ANOTHER BIKERNET WEEKLY ART EXHIBIT–This picture started with a photo I’d shot of the Bob’s Big Boy in Toluca Lake (Burbank) CA., built in 1949 it’s the oldest Bob’s still around. I spent a good part of my teenage years cruising the nearby (and long gone) Bob’s in Van Nuys CA., occasionally cruising this one as well.

I, of course, added all the people, cars (back then I had a Model A sedan rod like that green one, and after that a ’57 Nomad like the one on the left), chopper (a combo of parts), and the Lockheed Constellation, which was built at Lockheed’s Burbank Airport facility (which is behind Bob’s by a few miles). I also added a “Silver Goblet Shake” to the food tray, something Bob’s unfortunately no longer sells. I removed stuff like the walk/don’t walk signs from the light poles (they didn’t have those in ’62).

Larryslithos

I also added the “Satan’s Slaves” colors to the biker because I always remember those guys cruising around back then. Three former “Slaves” (now in the “Early Riders”) saw this picture at the recent Grand Nat’l Roadster show where I had a booth, and I explained to them that when I created this picture I couldn’t find a reference for the exact design of their emblem, so I had to fake it. They didn’t care, they loved it, and in fact invited me to their next club meeting (which coincidentally takes place across the street from this Bob’s)!

Ps. Sorry guys I couldn’t make the last one but I’ll try for the next.

This picture and all of my art is available on my website: www.retrovisions.com

Raw Sporty Chop Greg F

GREG FRIEND ESCAPES TO BARNETT’S–Greg was the former editor of Street Choppers in Primedia. They stuck him in a tiny office, doubled the issues he had to produce and never offered to hire more help. He produced the entire magazine on his own, until they dropped Bike Works in his lap and he hit the road to work for Barnetts Magazine.

While at Primedia he started a bike build project where he split the transmission off aSportster engine for the traditional look. Just recently we’ve decided to add a late model 5-speed Sportster tranny to our 45-flathead/K model top end Bonneville bike. “It’ll fall off the cam,” Skeeter Todd said recently at Departure Bike Works in Richmond, VA, “if you run the stock 3-speed transmission.” So we’re going to use aSportster tranny and I called Greg for tips on how to proceed.

FlatOut

“I sold it on Ebay,” Greg admitted. “I’m running a regular, big Twin Baker transmission. This image is the chopped Sportster motor (before it was polished) in an Evo frame.” “Thanks for nothing, Greg,” I said and hung up. The trans is coming from Lee Clemens at Departure and I’m working with James Simonelli at S&S for the proper trap door and bearings. You’ll see how we make it mount in the frame in the near future on Bikernet. I’ll hit up Greg for something else.

Greg and I are also working on a feature for Gard Hollinger of his Build-Off Drag Racer for Bikernet and Barnett’s mag. Don’t forget to watch the Build-off program on The Learning Channel tonight.

FORMER FLORIDA SHERIFF WANTS TO BAN RADAR DETECTORS– Former Alachua County Sheriff Steve Oelrich now a Florida State Senator wants to outlaw Radar Detectors in the State of Florida.

If the bill – SB 2228 passes into law any one caught with one while stopped for another offense could be fined up to $185.00, depending on the county they live in.

This is more government and also a way to take more money from the public. I do realize that there are those who will say it will help cut down on highway deaths But that has yet to be proven.

The police have plenty of radar units and stop and ticket many drivers and riders some of who have radar detectors. A active campaign to lower highway deaths by reducing speeding has not shown good results in my opinion.

I feel that this law would be another one of my rights taken away and is more about making money that anything else.

I request that all Florida residents contact their legislator and rights groups and let them know you do not want this law passed.

SAXON APPROVED FOR EUROPEAN DISTRIBUTION–This just in. Saxon is about to become the only American Manufacturer aside from Harley-Davidson to be approved for distribution in Europe.

Bikernet is about to road test the new 2007 Warlord and the Sceptre Hot Rod is being published in the HORSE then on Bikernet. Hang on for those reports. Right now you can read about the Saxon Assembly line procedure on Bikernet. It’s interesting and opens the door to their quality efforts. In fact you might want to print out their inspection sheets for any bike build.

THE BIKERNET LIVING WILL TECH TIP–While I was watching football this weekend, my wife and I got into aconversation about life and death, and the need for living wills.

During the course of the conversation I told her that I never wanted toexist in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and taking fluidsfrom a bottle.

She got up, unplugged the TV and threw out all my beer.

STEALTH SHOP REPORT FROM CHARLOTTE–It is spring like here in Charlotte. The temps have been in the 60’s! The bikes are back on the road again!

Here at STEALTH BIKE WORKS we are starting another project bike. A rigid framed, springer front end, Evo based bike with high bars. We have the roller together and are waiting on the engine and tranny.

Bikes are starting to roll in for spring service. We had a kid come with a 1980 Sporty and told us could not get his chain to adjust. We walked out to take a look and the chain was full of tight spots which made it impossible to adjust. We told him he needed a new chain and he said a shop had told him the chain was supposed to have tight spots? Well that is a new one on me! We put a new chain on and got him on his way.

Man it seems I have a list a mile long of things I want to do but the time seems to be impossible to find. Next week with the time change I am going to make time to clean all of bikes and give them a good waxing. Then we have about 2 tons of leaves to get out of our yard at home. “THE MEANEST” is a slave driver at home! Speaking of “THE MEANEST,” she is in Milwaukee today as part of some new focus group H-D has! What do they focus on? I have not been told! Maybe that is a good thing?

Spring is real close to exploding and with that comes rides. Rides to the local bike nights. There are a couple of new ones this year. Like we needed another one? Oh well it something to do and it will feel good to ride to a couple of them and anyway they are always good for a couple of laughs. The poker runs start up this month. The 8th Annual Run For Breath “In Memory of Justin Pullin” is Sunday July 22nd. It starts right here at SBW and ends at Lone Star Steak House in Monroe. Hey, we need awards for the bike show. They are made out of old bike parts. Hey Mr. Bandit, Do you think you can knock out the best of Show award again this year? If anyone is interested in making awarda, you can give me a call at STEALTH BIKE WORKS 704-882-0889.

Well that wraps it up for this week!
Until next week, RIDE!

MACK

THE PASSING OF MACK MCNALLY–Mack McNally, former Research & Development manager of Zipper?s Performance Products, passed away on March 1st 2007 due to pancreatic cancer. He was 58 years old. Mack’s career in the motorcycle industry was multi-faceted. In the ’90s he owned and operated a successful pro-stock team competing in national events throughout the country.

Mack McNally’s love of competition fueled his desire for product development. In the Mid 90s he joined his racing friends at Zipper?s Performance to help develop an aftermarket fuel injection system. This system is now known as the successful ThunderMax. Mack played a key role in development with the team at Thunder-Heart Performance, where he has worked since retiring from Zipper?s Performance Products in 2005.

Mack was well known and loved by many in the motorcycle industry. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Cathy Hinkle McNally, his mother Florence K. McNally, brothers in-law Gene and Bob Hinkle.

DUTCH JUDGES REFUSE TO BAN HELLS ANGELES– THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) –A chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang in the Netherlands is not a criminal organization, Dutch judges ruled Tuesday, rejecting prosecutors’ attempts to have the group outlawed.

The decision is a major setback for efforts by the public prosecutor’s office to have Hells Angels clubs banned nationwide amid allegations they are heavily involved in organized crime. The Harlingen Hell’s Angels chapter was the first prosecutors tried to have outlawed.

“Based on the fact that weapons and soft drugs were found at the club house in Harlingen, it is apparent that the Harlingen chapter is involved in crime,” judges in the northern city of Leeuwarden wrote in their judgment. “But the group has not been prosecuted for those offenses and prosecutors have not indicated they are planning a case.”

The judges said there was insufficient evidence to suggest that the biker gang “threatens public order to the extent it should be banned.”

“This is the right result,” said Harlingen Hells Angel member Dirk van der Zee. “It is not the case that we are all criminals. Prosecutors are trying to tar us all with the same brush.”

The Harlingen chapter’s club house was raided in 2005 as part of a large scale investigation into allegations of extortion, intimidation, weapons and drugs trafficking.

That investigation followed the murder of three members of the gang in 2004, allegedly by fellow bikers.

A spokeswoman said prosecutors would appeal the ruling.

BIKERNET MOVES THURSDAY NEWS TO THE CANTINA–Put the Thursday news in the Cantina and make ’em pay! Hell yes you deserve it. This old broke dick Panhead rider found Bikernet just two months ago and I paid the $10 in a heartbeat. What does $10 buy anyway? If they can’t see that the material you are posting is worth much more; they are on the wrong website.

Could it possibly be the “well to do ” folks who will snivel about having to pay? I have a tech tip that may help them. See attached photo taken Jan. 3rd, 2007 in Nebraska. Nice day, no snow, around 38 degrees. So I ride.

Note the $2 bandana around my neck. Not a fashion statement, this actually goes over face to cut the wind–OH SHIT, WAIT I could have spent at least $20 or more for a FASHIONABLE face mask with a skull on it! Back to reality, remembering my motto is FUNCTION BEFORE FASHION.

Sooo if you apply my low budget philosophy, take the money you save, buy a six-pack, sit down and subscribe to the cantina! Enjoy.

Down the road,

–Shortcut

Last Sunday we announced, in the Sunday News, that we were researching moving the Thursday News to the Cantina. Cantina membership is now a measly $14.95 a year for Bikernet Premium content. That works out to be .28 cents a week, if only for the news. Hard to take.

With this support we can bring you additional info, statistics, profiles and the story back stage from major events. Damnit, we appreciate your support and we’ll pay you back with the best content and news on the planet –Bandit

POLICE WON?T STOP BOOBS ON BIKES–New Zealand – Police in Christchurch say they won’t be taking any action against a planned parade of topless women on motorbikes because it is a moral issue, not a criminal one.

The Boobs on Bikes parade is scheduled for the Christchurch city centre this Friday to publicise a sex industry expo.

Police say they have received a number of calls from upset residents about the parade, but can’t intervene unless a crime is committed.

Last year, Auckland City Council attempted to stop a similar parade going ahead there but were unable to cite a legal reason to justify a ban

HARLEY-DAVIDSON UPDATES GUIDANCE AS RESULT OF STRIKE– Milwaukee, Wis., February 27, 2007. Harley-Davidson, Inc. (NYSE:HOG) announced today that it is updating guidance for motorcycle shipments for the first quarter of 2007 and financial guidance for the full year. Guidance is being revised to reflect the impact of a three week strike that concluded Thursday, February 22, 2007, at the Company?s manufacturing facility in York, Pa. Full production at the Pennsylvania and Wisconsin plants is expected to resume over the next week. In all, the strike will result in a loss of approximately one month?s production. ?While we are pleased to have reached an agreement with our unionized employees in York, a disruption of this magnitude has a significant impact on our business, as well as our suppliers, dealers, employees and our retail customers,? said Tom Bergmann, Chief Financial Officer.

?Although the recovery process has begun, the immediate impact will be a reduction in our first quarter Harley-Davidson motorcycle shipments from our previous guidance of 82,000 – 84,000 units, to revised guidance of 64,000 – 66,000 units. We expect to make up approximately 4,000 ? 5,000 of these motorcycles during the remainder of the year resulting in full year shipment plans for approximately 14,000 fewer motorcycles than we originally planned.

This decision was made after carefully evaluating our production constraints, supply chain issues, cost implications, timing of shipments to dealers, and the delayed start of 2008 model year production caused by the strike,? said Bergmann.

For the full year 2007, Harley-Davidson now expects moderate revenue growth, lower margins, and earnings per share (EPS) growth in the range of 4 ? 6 percent compared to 2006. The Company expects its EPS growth rate to return to 11 ? 17 percent in 2008 and 2009.

Willie G. Davidson to speak at THE MOTORCYCLE HALL OF FAME MUSEUM?S annual fundraising breakfast–Harley-Davidson Senior Vice President and Chief Styling Officer and Motorcycle Hall of Fame member Willie G. Davidson will share his vision of Harley-Davidson?s iconic design heritage at the 19th Annual Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum Fundraising Breakfast during Daytona Bike Week. The event will take place Friday, March 9, in Daytona Beach, Fla., at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort. After the breakfast, Willie G. will host an autograph session.

The funds raised at the breakfast will support the non-profit Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum?s mission of education and preservation of America?s only Hall of Fame dedicated to motorcycling.

Davidson was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999 for helping usher The Motor Company into its most successful era. MOTORCYCLE DEATH RATES RISING, CHIEF WANT MANDATORY HELMETS– February 20, 2007 It’s time to make safety helmets standard equipment for motorcyclists, as U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary E. Peters sees it.Peters is calling on manufacturers to provide free or heavily discounted DOT-certified helmets or driver safety training with the purchase of every new motorcycle sold in the United States.”Helmets and proper training are just as important as brakes or headlights when it comes to the well-being of motorcyclists,” Secretary Peters said. “We shouldn’t be letting any customer take a bike out of the store without a helmet as part of the package. Safety shouldn’t have to be an option when purchasing a motorcycle.”

Secretary Peters said only 58 percent of riders wear helmets today, which is down 13 percent from just four years ago.

In addition, the Federal Highway Administration has established a Motorcycle Advisory Council to focus on making roads safer for motorcyclists and will continue work begun by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on a Motorcycle Crash Causation Study to identify why motorcycle crashes occur and find ways to reduce the fatality and injury rates.

Bullshit. They?re proven over and over that helmet free states have similar death rates has helmet states and more accidents. They also prove time after time that helmets don?t save lives, can break your neck and the culprit is always the motorists who turns left or talks on the phone. It?s not a safety issue, but a money one. Insurance companies know that every-time a helmet is passed fewer people ride–Bandit

USS New York

USS NEW YORK, TRIBUTE TO 911–It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center. It is the fifth in a new class of warship – designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, LA to cast the ship’s bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept. 9, 2003, “those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,” recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. “It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.”

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the “hair on my neck stood up.” “It had a big meaning to it for all of us,” he said. “They knocked us down. They can’t keep us down. We’re going to be back.”

The ship’s motto? “Never Forget”Please keep this going so everyone can see what we are made of in this country!

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION FIGHTS TO END BIKER DISCRIMINATION– February 21 Washington DC: The Motorcycle Riders Foundation reports that legislation to close the loophole that currently exists in our nation’s health insurance industry has been introduced in the US Senate (S 616) and House (HR 1076).

Under current law, group market insurance customers – that’s everyone who has insurance from a job in the private sector, military or government – can be denied benefits for a particular injury just because it came from an motorcycle accident. Congress passed the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act> (HIPAA) in 1996 to ensure proper access to health insurance for all American workers. Once the bureaucrats at the US Department of Health and Human Services issued their final ruling on the law they managed to allow a loophole that can be used to discriminate against motorcyclists when the need health insurance the most, after an accident.

The loophole also is used by insurance companies to deny benefits for any accidents that stem from horseback riding, snowmobiling, and snow skiing, just to name a few.

“This legislation will right an injustice done to America’s motorcycling community,” said Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation. “We are asking the Congress to tell the insurance industry that they can no longer get away with refusing benefits that have been bought and paid for by motorcyclists”.

The House legislation has been referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, while the Senate bill is sitting before the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.

In order to pass this legislation, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation needs your help. Please join your fellow freedom fighters and ask your Members of Congress and Senators to co-sponsor this important legislation.

Ask your federal Representative to support HR 1076 and your two US Senators to support S 616. Should you receive any commitments or denials to support the legislation, or if you have any other legislative question or concerns, please contact the MRF.

BIKENET HAS ITS RELIGIOUS MOMENTS–An out of town biker becomes friendly with Thelma, the waitress in his hotel coffee shop, and invites her up to his room.

She is indignant.

The biker says, “Don’t get excited. This is all in the Bible.”

Thelma is appeased, and after her shift they go out and have a few drinks. Again the biker invites her up to his room, and again she is angry.

The biker explains, “It’s in the Bible.”

An hour later they’re in the biker?s hotel room and he suggests They undress and have some fun. He assures Thelma that it isn’t sinful since it’s in the Bible.

“Where?” she says. “Where does it say that?”

Taking the Bible from the hotel nightstand, he opens it to the front cover where someone has written, “Thelma the waitress is a great lay.”

STEALTH BIKEWORKS BANNER

STEALTH REPORT FROM THE FRONT?OF HIS SHOP–March is upon us and that means spring is coming soon. This year the time changes on March 11th, 3 weeks early! More daylight means more time to get things done.

You know I read where some people are stiffing Mr. Bandit and Bikernet on paying bills. All of this is against the code we live by. You never cheat your brother, NEVER!

On a smaller scale we deal with a similar issue everyday here at STEALTH BIKE WORKS. It seems that no matter what price you give some people, it is too high or they bring a part to the counter with the price tag already on it and ask you “How much can I get this for?” What does the price tag say ? That is what you can get it for! Then we always hear “The labor is too much,” even though our labor rate is one of or the lowest in the Charlotte area. It is amazing to me, how many people that are out there who are always looking for something for nothing. I am sure we are not the only small shop who see this on a daily basis. When you run a shop, your eyes are opened to a lot of things that you never realized before. Sometimes I just sit and laugh to myself about it and other times I just sit!

stealth tank

Hey, I got to talk to my buddy Jose this week from Caribbean Choppers. All is good with Jose! I always have liked Jose from the first time I met him. He speaks his mind and doesn’t beat around the bush about anything. I admire that in anyone.

I have got to go do some work now. You know it is the time of year where things start to pick up. THE MEANEST has a list a mile long of things that need to be done around the house. I need to give my bikes their spring bath and the list goes on.

You know this is a crazy business to be in sometimes. The ups and downs, the highs and lows, the busy times, the slow times. Putting up with the posers. Having good times with true friends and true bikers. Being your own boss, paying the bills every month, not making BIG money but having the time of my life! It is and adventure of a lifetime! It is a roller coaster ride that never ends! Would I do it all again? Hell yes!

Until next week, RIDE!

DELAND IN ORLANDO COMPETES WITH BIKE WEEK IN DAYTONA–Orlando Sentinel, FL – DeLAND — Thousands of bikers are expected to rumble into historic downtown March 3rd, as part of the 3rd Annual DeLand Bike Rally. The event takes place just a day after the official start of Bike Week, which draws throngs of visitors to Volusia.Organizers with Main Street DeLand are hoping local businesses will cash in on the influx of tattooed tourists who typically dump most of their money beachside.

“It’s a very successful event for DeLand,” said Main Street Executive Director Cherry Smith. “I know it’s a really good day for the restaurants and the bars and the merchants.”

The Museum of Florida Art, formerly the DeLand Museum of Art, is also hoping to tap into the motorcycle frenzy with an exhibit showcasing custom bikes painted by Chris Cruz as well as a handful of vintage bikes.

The “Art of Chrome and Leather” also will include photos of local rider Billy “Ace” Myers, who raced his bikes on the sand in Daytona Beach during the 1950s. Those and other pictures of beach-racing dating back to the 1920s are on loan from the Halifax Historical Museum.

The exhibit opened Friday and runs through March 11.The museum has also organized a roughly 90-mile ride that will wind along back roads from Daytona USA to the museum March 4.

Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson will lead the West Side Ride on his black pearl Harley-Davidson Street Glide.”This is a fun ride,” said Johnson, who used to be a motorcycle deputy. “There are a lot of good people.”The DeLand Bike Rally will feature a custom bike show, live music and demonstrations by expert riders.

Woodland Boulevard will be closed to cars through downtown March 3 to create a safe haven for bikers. Some surrounding streets will also be closed to make room for bands, exhibitions and vendors.

Organizer Wayne Arnold said he expects up to 50,000 people to show up for the one-day event, about 20,000 more than last year.

Arnold said the rally is designed to be family-friendly and that DeLand is an ideal venue for the celebration.”It’s a whole different atmosphere than Bike Week,” he said. “It’s a quaint, small-town atmosphere and people just love to come and walk around.”

360brake

BALDWIN-WILSON DEVELOPMENT INTRODUCES THE REVOLUTIONARY 360-BRAKE–INDIANAPOLIS , IN (Feb. 26, 2007) – Don’t hide your awesome billet wheels behind a big rotor and caliper. Finally a brake that functions better than conventional systems and is completely contained in a five-inch hub spacer around the axle, it looks like there’s no brake at all!

The circular piston and pads are activated by hydraulic pressure, all of which revolves 360? around the axle. Think of it like the clutch on your tranny – in reverse. This design applies 360? of braking pressure to the rotor delivering substantially greater braking power, as well as better control with smooth, straight-line braking and improved distribution of braking between the front and rear wheels.

Instead of 80% of the braking power being transferred to the front wheel, the 360 Brake runs between 60/40 to a consistent 50/50 percent effectiveness between the front the rear wheel. Heat build up isn’t a problem; it’s controlled with special rotor and pad materials that are cooled by the slots in the hub cover. These slots also play a roll in eliminating dust build up by way of the grooved rotor.

The brake hub will fit 3?4″, 1″, 20mm, and 18mm axles. Currently 360 Brake is modified to fit many of the custom wheels on the market today. Baldwin-Wilson’s tech support is glad to assist with installation and fitment questions.

BILANSKY SET TO DEFENT ASRA PRO THUNDERBIKE TITLE AT DAYTONA-SEVEN BUELL TEAMS ON THE GRID FOR MOTO-ST ENDURANCE RACE– EAST TROY, Wis. (Feb. 26, 2007) – Buell racer Dan Bilansky opens the 2007 American Sportbike Racing Association (ASRA) season at Daytona International Speedway the weekend of March 2-4, 2007, looking to keep his Buell Firebolt XB12R in one piece and get a jump on repeating his 2006 ASRA Pro Thunderbike Championship.

“Daytona’s always been one of those tracks that I hope to get out of with all of my equipment intact and some points. The track is hard on equipment, so even though you always need to go to a track with the attitude that you can win, I try to take it a little easier every time I’m at Daytona,” Bilansky said. “I’m sure the BMW teams did their homework over the winter, and with [Canadian Thunder champion] Darren James coming down to run most of the schedule here in the US this season, I think it’s going to be an even better season for the spectators. There should be some good racing, and hopefully I will be able to repeat last year’s championship for my Hal’s Speed Shop team.”

Bilansky, who wrapped up the 2006 ASRA Pro Thunderbike title in dramatic fashion with a one-point margin at the ASRA finale at Daytona last October, will also compete in the SunTrust MOTO-ST season opening Daytona 500K endurance race on March 4. His teammate will be Shawn Higbee on the Daytona H-D/Buell-sponsored Richie Morris Racing entry in the Grand Sport Twins class.

Six additional Buell teams will join them on MOTO-ST’s Grand Sport Twins class grid aboard Firebolt XBs: Canadians Darren James and Steve Crevier riding for Deeley H-D/Buell Canada/Ruthless Racing; Justin Garvin and Bobby Stellfox for Team All-American; Anthony Caligiuri and James Delk, Jr. for Liberty H-D/Buell; Paul James and Greg Avello of James Gang Racing/Hal’s Speed Shop; Jeff Johnson and Jess Roeder of Hoban Brothers Racing/Appleton H-D/Buell; and Tim Hall and Robert Johnson for Motorsports MG/Jim’s H-D/Buell of St. Petersburg.

WATCH THE BUILD-OFF TONIGHT–BIKER BUILD-OFF PRODUCER MAY BE FOUND WANDERING THE STREETS OF DAYTONA, IF WE DON’T SUPPORT HIS SHOW–FYI, The ratings for BBO hold strong, but the Network has not committed to more shows yet. Any push from your end at getting people to watch this Thursday’s episode would be appreciated. The Build Off features Greg Westbury of Westbury Handcrafted Motorcycles, Concord, CA vs. Brian Fuller of Fuller Hot Rods, Atlanta, Georgia.

Both built highly crafted, totally functional cool, slammed lead sleds. Brian cannibalizes a 2005 Buell sportbike into a two piece boardtrack frame with a giant 32″ rear tire to make a completely one off street rod.

BIKERNET NEWS FLASH – EASYRIDERS COLUMBUS REPORT, CHOPPER CHICKS FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS, DAYTONA TASK FORCE WORKING FOR RIDERS, MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE REPORT CARD, NEW ART FROM LARRY GROSSMAN AND 360 BRAKE IN DAYTONA.

Already in Daytona, Arlin Fatland of 2Wheelers sharing a Bikernet banner with Billy Lane as they prepare for the Builders’ Breakfast.

Incredible,

The news is exploding. We’re rocking with material heading into Daytona. Projects are whipping along and more content is flying at Bikernet. I’m going to dive into the news. We started off this year with one project, Assalt Weapan for Bonneville. Now we’re in the middle of three bike builds, maybe four, noise issues, EPA, Hollister, a book project or two and Bonneville. Hang on. This year is going to be damn exciting and productive. Good shit is happening, just don’t fuck up-as my pappy would say.

Let’s hit the news. I promise to be more specific later:

360 brake use

360-BRAKE WILL DISPLAY IN DAYTONA–Sorry I haven’t been in contact my exalted leader. I have been sick as hell, and am just now starting to feel human again. It was great seeing you again and hope to see you in Daytona. We will be set up at Destination Daytona and I have been invited to the casting call for the Metric Revolution. That should be interesting, considering I’m taking my Shovelhead chopper….LOL

NEW BUCKSHOT PROJECT–Just picked up a new project. I built it for a guy last summer. STD cases and STD outside oiler heads, S&S guts, polished 4 speed with Andrews close ratio gears, Primo belt drive with Rivera Pro Clutch. All the good stuff.

The first picture is the day I finished it last August, the second is last Saturday morning when I brought it home. (Yeah, he’s okay, but he’ll never be able to kick start a Panhead again.)

Hot Pussuit 31

NEW ART EXHIBIT FROM LARRY GROSSMAN–“Hot Pussuit on Route 66” what can I say. I just finished this picture last week and just printed it yesterday, so it’s hot off the press and now available on my website! This one started out with a photo I’d shot of my friend Natalie, who I ran into at a car show last year (she’s already in several of my pictures and I don’t think I need to explain why!).

I got her to sit on a bike for me while I snapped away. I wasn’t that crazy about the bike though, so I digitally built a new one beneath her from 4-5 bikes I’d previously shot. I also made some changes to her outfit like shortening her skirt! I shot the dump behind her near Antioch, CA and added a bunch of details, like a neon sign in the window that says “Heated Cess Pool”, and the Route 66 sign.

The rooftop sign I shot in Williams, AZ. All of the choppers are a combo of parts from pics I’d shot, as is the Mopar cop car, cop and the three men. The old town in the background is a portion of the Bodie (CA) ghost town I’d shot a few years ago, and the background scenery I snapped somewhere en route to Santa Fe.

THE MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE REPORT CARD– Thought you might be interested in seeing how the various Harley-oriented magazines compare in newsstand sale.

On a separate note, the last I heard is that KKR, the New York financiers who control Primedia, is asking for a billion dollars for the 70 magazines and 90 web sites they have for sale. I have heard a few publishing companies looked but have not made bid on any of the magazines.

The latest ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulation) sales figures are in for the second half of 2006.

We were recently given a report which measures and ranks all 503 audited magazines (most of the best selling titles are audited) on newsstand sales as measured by dollars generated.

Here is how the motorcycle titles did:

Magazine–Cover price– Number Sold– Bucks
Easyriders– $6.99– 62,079– $433,932
American Iron Mag — $4.99– 69,048– $344,550
Cycle World — $3.99– 65,583– $261,676
Motorcyclist — $3.99– 51,211– $204,332

Sport Rider — $4.99– 39,524– $197,225
Hot Bike — $5.13– 31,389– $161,026
Transworld MX — $4.99– 30,616– $152,774
Racer X Ill — $4.99– 30,429– $151,841
Dirt Rider — $4.99 — 25,293– $126,212
Rider — $3.99– 11,004– $43,906
BikeWorks — $4.99– 4,842– $24,162

The following Harley-related magazines are not included on this list as they are not audited as part of the ABC program:
American Bagger
American Rider
Barnetts
IronWorks
The Horse
Street Chopper
V-Twin

— Buzz Kanter

We investigated further and asked Joe Teresi the boss of Easyriders: V-TWIN is audited and the combined Newsstand sales of ER and VT is 98,154.

RAISIN BREAD COMES TO BIKERNET–A bakery owner hires a young female clerk wholikes to wear very short skirts and thong panties. One day a young man enters the store, glancesat the clerk and glances at the loaves of breadbehind the counter. Noticing the length of herskirt (or lack thereof) and the location of theraisin bread, he has a brilliant idea.

“I’d like some raisin bread please,”the man says politely.

The female clerk nods and climbs up a ladder toreach the raisin bread, which is located on thevery top shelf. The young man standing almostdirectly beneath her is provided with an excellentview, just as he surmised he would.

Once she descends the ladder he muses that hereally should get two loaves, as he is havingcompany for dinner.

As the clerk retrieves the second loaf of bread, one of the other male customers notices whatwas going on. Thinking quickly, he requests hisown loaf of raisin bread so he can continue toenjoy the view.

With each trip up the ladder, the young lady seemsto catch the eye of another male customer. Prettysoon, each male customer is asking for raisinbread, just to see the clerk climb up and down. After many trips she is tired, irritated and thinkingthat she is really going to have totry the bread herself.

Finally, once again atop the ladder, she stopsand fumes, glaring at the men standing below. She notices an elderly man standing amongstthe crowd, staring up at her.

Thinking to save herself a trip, she yells at the elderly man,Is it raisin for you too?

“No,” stammers the old man, “but it’s a quiverin’!!!

CAMPAIGN AIMS TO SPARE LIVES–21 bikers died in 2006 event; this year’s goal is to make motorists extra-cautious.Ludmilla Lelis | Sentinel Staff Writer Posted February 25, 2007Bike Week 2006 – Biker deaths Feb 25, 2007DAYTONA BEACH — With more than half a million motorcycles roaring into town later this week, it will be hard to miss Bike Week. But individual motorcycles and their riders may be another story.A Volusia task force, formed after last year’s event saw a record number of biker deaths, says too many drivers don’t see the motorcycles coming until it’s too late. Of the 21 motorcycle riders who died during last year’s Bike Week, nine were in accidents caused by a car or truck driver.Five motorcyclists were killed when vehicles turned left in front of them; three bikers were rear-ended; and one died when a van crossed the center line and struck him head-on, the records show.

That’s why the Bike Week Safety Task Force is trying to send a message to everyone who will be on the roads during this year’s Bike Week: “Look twice. Save a life.””One thing we always hear in these crashes is the motorist telling us, ‘I never saw the motorcycle,’ ” said Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Kim Miller. “They all assume it was the motorcyclist’s fault, but that’s not always true.”Bike Week, the annual motorcycle rally that started in Daytona in 1937, officially opens Friday and runs through March 11. Assuming the weather is good, more than 500,000 bikers will be cruising local roads and Interstate 4 to venues throughout Central Florida.

The Bike Week Safety Task Force — which includes bikers as well as local police, firefighters and tourism officials — says that sets up the potential to repeat last year’s death toll. Its campaign — already seen on six billboards, bus advertisements, temporary signs and fliers sent to local churches and homeowners associations — is aimed at local car and truck drivers, telling them what they can do to avoid collisions with bikers.

Their suggestions include double-checking blind spots, avoiding driving distractions such as cell phones or food, and leaving a four-second distance between your car and a motorcycle in front of you. And, of course, paying special attention to oncoming traffic before you turn.

Miller remembered one case in which a driver was preparing to make a left turn and saw a garbage truck coming. Yet, he said, he never saw the motorcycle in front of the garbage truck. He turned left — and the biker smashed into the side of the car. “Your eyes tend to scan for the largest object on the road, so a motorist may miss the motorcycle,” Miller said.

“All motorcycle riders are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. You’ve got some fools on two wheels,” Colosimo said. “But we all need to be more aware and ride with common sense.”

The AXIOM Code

Axiom cycle banner

Axiom4
Axiom customer service representative.Axiom Cycles: A Small Custom Tailor Shop with a Big Rep for Service and Quality

If you remember your high school math an axiom is something universally regarded as true. About a year ago Mark Nemets, himself a rider for over 20 years, chucked the corporate world of computer and finance consulting to pursue his own universal truth, that working on motorcycles, with other motorcyclists, was a much more enjoyable way to earn to his daily bread.

His own first ride, back in the ‘80s, was an ironhead Sportster. Since cash was scarce back in the day, he used to buy bikes that needed work and developed his wrenching skills through trial and error and by asking for advice. “I found that motorcycle people were always willing to help, another reason motorcycling became part of my life. When I was just out of school, I went to work and managed to always have a bike and a hotrod car, Chevelles, Mustangs and Camaros. Since I didn’t have any money to afford mechanics, I learned to fix them in my carport. I eventually made enough money from consulting to open my own shop, a dream come true for me.” Mark laughs and adds,

“And I don’t have to drag my tools upstairs to my apartment anymore.”

Asked why he chose the name Axiom for his business, Mark explains, “When I thought about starting my business dealings with other people, one of the things very key to me was being honest with my customers, being right up front and giving them a fair shake. It seemed that everything was all about the buck, sacrificing your ethics and morals to get the job. And I won’t do that. Never have, and never will. And so…Axiom.”

Axiom3

The cozy 2000 sq. ft. shop located in Santa Ana, CA has an open door policy where you’ll be greeted by Mark and chief mechanic John Clayton. “We have a little office area up front, a couple desks and chairs, a refrigerator, a stereo, and in the work area our welders and work benches. Customers can walk in, sit down and we’ll talk bikes. Together we’ll figure out what direction they want to go. If they’re doing a custom we talk about what look they want, what kind of riding they do.”

Axiom1

”Say a guy comes in with his Harley and wants some pipes, a seat, whatever; we show him what we have and how we do it. If he just wants the parts and to learn to do it himself, we’ll show him. We offer full service, everything from adjusting a clutch to rebuilds of motor and transmissions and a wide selection of aftermarket products. We’ve got all the factory and custom parts, all the bling a custom customer might want including full ground up customs, tailored to the owner’s needs and specs.”

As far as motorcycle styles, Axiom’s inclined toward the Old School Bobbers. For example, Axiom offers a Santee Softail framed bobber motorcycle rolling chassis featuring springer forks, bars, wire wheels and tires with matching tank and fenders for $2999.95. In the shop you’ll also find stretched choppers and pavement blistering Pro Street customs.

Axiom2

“We also work on bikes for the ladies including lowering the bike through suspension, seat and handlebar modifications so they’re more comfortable. Basically, we like to build that dream motorcycle each person has in their heads,” Mark said. “We have pictures of hundreds of bikes for the customer to look through while they have a cup of coffee.”

Custom paint options are very personalized as well with four painters hooked up with the shop, again getting away from the mass production line and dealing on a one-to-one ratio. They are however keeping up with the new regulations for 2006 by producing an EPA, NADA and Kelly Blue Book compliant bikes while maintaining the ability to produce a custom tailored bike, all under the Axiom label. You can shop online from over 100,000 aftermarket products from over 100 suppliers with new goodies coming on board weekly, for example recently the complete line of Vance & Hines parts. They also offer a special price guarantee on H-D and custom parts and accessories. Find a lower price on anything over $100 and they’ll beat it by $10. Can’t beat that.

For quality service and customer friendly pricing, give Mark a call at 714-648-0900 or visit them personally at 610 S. Grand Ave., Santa Ana, CA 92705 Mon-Sat 10-6 and Sunday by appointment or log on to www.axiomcycles.com.

BIKERNET NEWS EDITS–SHORT AND SWEET, H-D AND UNION AGREES–PRODUCTION BEGINS TONIGHT, A CHAIN THAT LASTS 25,000 MILES AND AN AMAZING BIKERNET ENDING–WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU EXPECT?

Continued From Page 4

chain 13

THE FIRST 25,000-MILE CHAIN!– Ever heard of a motorcycle chain with a guaranteed mileage life? That’s the astonishing cast-iron back up from Bickers for the DID X2. Bickers are offering a stunning two-year or 25,000-mile warranty on this Super Heavy Duty chain. If the chain wears out before then – and it’s been properly maintained – Bickers will replace it under warranty.

They can do this because DID’s X2 is tough enough to cope with the worst job on a bike, exposed to dirt, grime, road salt and water. DID’s existing X-Ring chain already outperforms every conventional O-ring chain on the market. Conventional O-rings get squashed between the chain side plates, increasing friction. The DID X-Ring twists instead, dispersing the pressure and minimising power loss.

DID X2 X-Ring has four contact points, which greatly increases its sealing performance, keeping dirt out and lubricant in.

That makes for a low friction, long-life chain – the only one with a high mileage warranty! And warranties now come with every DID chain supplied by Bickers – O-Ring, X-Ring and X2:

*DID O-Ring Chain – 1 year/10,000 miles
*DID X-Ring Chain – 2 years/15,000 miles
*DID X2-Ring Chain – 2 years/25,000 miles

HARLEY-DAVIDSON AND YORK UNION REACH AGREEMENT,Motorcycle Production to Resume Tonight– York, Pa., Feb. 22, 2007 — Harley-Davidson Motor Company reported that motorcycle production will resume with the third shift this evening at the Company’s final assembly operations in York, following today’s ratification of a new labor agreement by its unionized employees. The new three-year agreement between the Company and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 175 becomes effective today.

Harley-Davidson employees in York had been on strike since Feb. 2, after rejecting an initial proposed labor agreement Jan. 31.IAM Local 175 represents about 2,800 production employees at Harley-Davidson’s facility in York, which produces the Company’s Touring and Softail motorcycles and is the Company’s largest production operation.

“We are eager to get back to work producing motorcycles again,” said Fred Gates, General Manager of Harley-Davidson’s Operations in York. “Our employees take enormous pride in building the best, highest quality motorcycles in the world and we all look forward to focusing our attention on meeting the needs of our customers.”

“The agreement is an important step in managing costs that could be detrimental to the business over the long term if the Company doesn’t start to control them now,” said Gates. “The agreement helps reduce the escalation in health care and other labor-related costs while continuing to provide an outstanding total compensation and benefits package. We appreciate the support of our union employees for sharing in the solutions to ongoing business challenges,” Gates said.

The new labor agreement provides annual wage increases of four percent in each of the contract’s three years. The agreement also establishes a two-tier wage structure which starts employees hired after the contract’s effective date at a wage rate that is lower than current employees, but equalizes pay by the end of the contract’s term. On the benefits side, unionized employees will participate in a new health plan that continues to require no employee premium but includes increases in the level of out-of-pocket costs that employees could incur for deductibles and co-pays.

Under the agreement, unionized employees in York continue to be fully covered by the Company’s traditional non-contributory pension plan. However, for new hires, the agreement reduces the Company’s match of optional contributions that employees can make to the contributory portion of the plan. The agreement also doubles the Company’s 401(k) match to 50 percent and provides other compensation and benefit improvements.

Harley-Davidson’s production and distribution facilities in Wisconsin are expected to resume normal operations over the next several weeks as a result of the resumption of production in York. The Company’s Wisconsin operations experienced reduced production and temporary layoffs of some employees due to the strike. The Wisconsin production facilities supply engines, transmissions and other components to Harley-Davidson’s final assembly operations in York and Kansas City.

The Company expects to release information on the business impact of the strike early in the week of Feb. 26.Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the only major U.S.-based motorcycle manufacturer, produces heavyweight motorcycles and a complete line of motorcycle parts, accessories and general merchandise. For more information, visit Harley-Davidson’s web site at www.harley-davidson.com.

DA NEWS ENDING–That puppy crested 20,000 words this morning, when we faced our first cup of joe and turned on our computers. It’s an indication of a couple of items. First, the industry is popping, and then it might mean there are a few folks reading Bikernet news. Goddamnit, they better. This is a lot of work.

Doherty kit
Here’s the Doherty lifesaver axle kit.

I’ll quit sniveling and move on. We have new fiction to launch and the brothers are calling for action. I met with Bassini Exhaust and Bob Clark yesterday. I hope to bring you the OCC Girls of Bikernet Bassini style in the next couple of days. I’m going to deliver a couple more bike features next week, a quick Avon tech on mounting and balancing tires. Suk from Avon delivered more info for our Wolfgang Wheel tech and I’ll add those shots tomorrow. A Doherty maching tech is coming on their wheel spacer kit. This puppy is a lifesaver for many builders.

It’s raining in SoCal, so tonight I’m having a Jack on the Rocks. Does that sound strange? Here’s Bandit’s drinking code. If it’s cold the Jack Daniels is the constant choice. If it’s hot outside, and the sunset is fine, a Margarita is ordered. If I’m working in the shop on a hot afternoon, then Corona with lime is thirst quencher. Does that work? What the hell, it’s my code. Take it or leave it. Let’s ride.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit

BIKER BUILD-OFF TONIGHT–Don’t miss it.The first two shows did very well, numbers wise, which proves that Bikernet.com works…. cause as you know the Network did amazingly little to promote BBO. So thanks, thanks, thanks.

The show this Thursday is a build-off between Chica of Chica Custom Cycles, Huntington Beach, CA and Michael Barragan of Evil Spirit Engineering, Glendale, CA. Chica built a red and white homage to the sixties… laid back, long bars, banana seat, eight foot sissy bar… totally hand wrought. He calls his creation the “Mama-san Special” because it is built in honor of his wife, Hitomi. On the ride she’s up behind him the entire length of the trip.

Barragan, an up and comer, is revered in Japan though just becoming known in the U.S. He built a post industrial, futuristic ghetto sled in his small but extremely intense shop behind his house. The two fabricators meet in Ft. Worth, Texas in the historic Stockyards casino where Hugh”Chopper” King deals them a hand which seals their fate and which sends them on their way to the 300,000 plus Lone Star Rally in Galveston.

S&S OBTAINS EPA ENGINE CERTIFICATION, UNLEASES NEW ENGINE–All three of S&S Cycles’ V-Series engine families have been EPA certified, making S&S the first motorcycle engine manufacturer to produce pre-certified EPA compliant engines for use by individuals and custom bike builders.By using motors that are pre-certified to meet emissions regulations, individuals and builders can now build EPA compliant motorcycles without having to go through the complicated and costly emissions testing procedures themselves. This will allow small volume manufacturers to build and sell as many custom motorcycles as they want to, and individuals can now own, ride and sell them without prior restrictions – as long as the engine package is not altered in any way that increases exhaust emissions.

“This is a very important announcement for the V-Twin industry, including every builder and shop in the U.S,” says S&S VP of product development, Scott Sjovall. “We have been working hard on these certifications since the letter of guidance was issued in July of 2006, and I’m extremely happy to see all three of the engine families approved just as the 2007 season is ready to kick off.”

s&s banner

On the heels of this announcement comes word of S&S Cycle’s all-new X-Wedge engine which is also right in line with the EPA’s most stringent environmental expectations. A departure from previous engine efforts, the X-Wedge is a 56-degree, closed-loop fuel-injected, three-cam, overhead valve V-Twin. One key engineering feature is the versatility of this design and the ability to create a wide range of engine sizes. Immediate plans include a 117ci X-Wedge to be released later this year, but in the future bore and stroke sizes can be maximized to create up to a 139ci engine. Regardless of the displacement, the 56-degree V-Twin utilizes three belt-driven cams – two exhaust cams and a common intake cam – to achieve almost straight pushrod angles. Combine these cams with automotive-style rockers and roller tappets to create what S&S calls an incredibly quiet, EPA noise conscious valvetrain.”

INDY INSIDER REPORT–Still sorting things out, but everythings changed from the days when Bourget and Coddington wowed the crowd. Crate chops are dead dead dead — straight from the source, which I can’t give up.

Metric chops are more in evidence but not hugely. Saw way more atvs and scooters than bikes. Branding for the new mfgs. will be impossible and they’re left selling a commodity.

Personally really like the new Victory bagger(s) — at my age, I can see Sue and I on one in a few years. I think they’ve hit the demographic bullseye dead center. They’ve put a lot of thought into the instrumentation and accessories and avoided looking like an H-D clone.

I think dealers, and it is a dealer show, saw a lot of new and/or alternative product to sell. The Cycle World dinner presentation showed continued (but slower) positive motorcycle growth (registrations). Chinese (Asian) everywhere – too bad for American manufacturing – just a memory now. Plenty of knock offs, of knock offs.

I think overall everyone felt positive – at least there were a lot of orders getting written. I thought last year had more buzz, but this year felt very confident. My new term for the show overall is alternative transportation – motorized things with wheels that aren’t cars or trucks. Powersports is definitely not about just motorcycles anymore. Ya should’ve seen the Castrol booth girls. I think I’m permanantly blind just thinking about them — and no, I don’t have pix of their gorgeous asses.

RUSSIAN BIKERS READ BIKERNET.COM–I Mikushev Alexey, from Novosibirsk, Russia.I liked your site. Probably, you will be interested with my motorcycle. If want – I shall send you photos more high quality.

Everything starts, when I was 12. I watched TV and there was a program about Moscow bikers. They rode on amazing handmade bikes with long forks and opposite engines, I’ve never seen something like this. That’s how my dream to build a chopper appears. I’ve bought an old (1974) Ural for $100. It was out of order and I put it in garage, then it changed many places – workshops, flats?

ABATE OF FLORIDA NEEDS SUPPORT–Motorcycle Riders of Florida need to Pay Attention and Get Involved. This came to me from ABATE of Florida. Though it asks you to become a member what the letter says is very true.

You Need To Contact Your Legislator and Ask They Vote NO! On HB265 and SB984

— ROGUE

The Legislative Session is Upon Us. When they are done in Tallahassee this year, will you still be able to afford to ride your motorcycle? Will you even be able to keep it?

For all of you FREELOADERS who continue to sit on your can and let members of ABATE OF FLORIDA protect your interests, listen up. This would include those of you who think that the only thing we care about is helmets, you listen up too.

The Florida Legislative Session begins on the 1st Tuesday in March and convenes for sixty consecutive days. The legislature is not even in regular session yet, and we already have the HB265 bill in the Florida House and companion SB984 in the Florida Senate. These bills conveniently do not include the word ‘motorcycle’ or ‘cycle’ but if these bills are passed into law in their current form, the face of motorcycling in Florida will severely change. The result will mean only the wealthy will be able to legally ride. A few short on money but big on cojones will choose not to meet the requirements of the new law. Unfortunately that will mean they are criminals and subject to fine, prosecution and incarceration.

Why do we already know this? Why are we already working on this when search engines do not discover any threat to motorcycling in this bill? ABATE OF FLORIDA members join together and involve themselves in fundraising to provide for a lobbyist. This same lobbyist called this to our attention just about the time the ink was drying on the bill.

This onerous bill deletes a portion of statute that defines motor vehicles. This same portion being deleted happens to exclude motorcycles from carrying PIP. Forget about the cost of carrying PIP on a motorcycle (and that you cannot buy it), but imagine how much it will cost to insure yourself against being run over by someone. No fault situations do not work or provide affordable solutions for someone riding a motorcycle. The reason insurance companies want helmets on motorcyclists boils down to the simple fact that when someone they insure runs over one of us, it costs them big money. As a motorcyclist, you know that a helmet is not going to save you from injury and/or death when Joe Impala runs over you so you understand why insurance companies are going to make you pony up big time when a new law makes you responsible for paying for your injuries when someone runs over you. HB265/SB984 will relieve the at-fault Joe Impala’s insurance company of the financial responsibility of running you over.

Ride safe out there and if you want to keep riding, get yourself signed up as a member and pay attention. Those who have been carrying your load and pulling your weight all of these years may come up short without your help, so get off your can and take yourself off the welfare biker role??.
