Harley-Davidson Issues Voluntary Safety Recall
By Bandit | | General Posts
Harley-Davidson is acting quickly to address potential safety issues by voluntarily recalling some 2014 Touring motorcycles equipped with a hydraulic clutch system that may pose a safety issue for riders and/or passengers. The recalls include a Do Not Ride notice to owners and a Do Not Deliver notice to Harley-Davidson dealers until the motorcycle is fixed.
“The safety of our customers is our highest priority,” said Tony Wilcox, Harley-Davidson General Manager of Motorcycle New Product Delivery. “We have identified potential safety issues and are moving quickly to notify our customers and dealers. The inspection and repair of these motorcycles is extremely important, so it’s critical that our customers with affected vehicles contact their dealers immediately. We apologize for this circumstance. The company is committed to correcting the issues and providing customers with the quality experience and service they expect.”
The recalls affect 25,185 Touring motorcycles, models FLHTCU, FLHTK, FLHTP, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHTKSE and FLHRSE, and 3,861 Softail® CVOs and Trikes, models FLHTCUTG, FXSBSE and FLSTNSE, built between May 3, 2013, and Oct. 14, 2013.
Some of these motorcycles may exhibit a condition in which the hydraulic clutch system may lose the ability to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch. If the clutch does not disengage as intended, the rider may have difficulty slowing or stopping the motorcycle, which could result in an accident. Harley-Davidson has initiated these recalls to correct the affected motorcycles
The company is taking the additional measure of issuing a Do Not Ride notice to riders given the potential safety issues. The company wants owners of affected motorcycles to contact an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer immediately to arrange for an inspection. The dealer will pick up, inspect and make the necessary repairs at no cost to the owner. The repairs have been identified and should take less than one hour.
Although the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration is closed as a result of the partial government shutdown, Harley-Davidson is proceeding with these voluntary recalls consistent with NHTSA’s process.

Upcoming TV Shows Filmed At Sturgis Buffalo Chip Feature Rally Highlights
By Bandit | | General Posts
A wide array of television programs will feature the Legendary Sturgis Buffalo Chip® in episodes to air in the coming months. The world-class concerts, crazy contests, daring stunts, and unique culture of the Sturgis campground’s Motorcycle and Music Festival have been featured in dozens of cable television programs throughout the years and will again be when upcoming Travel Channel’s Top Gear hits TV Oct. 22, when CMT’s Orange County Choppers hits mid November, and as more features follow suit. This year, the nation will be able to watch more Sturgis Rally footage from the Buffalo Chip than ever before.
Top Gear will wrap up its fourth season on History Channel later this month with an episode filmed at the Buffalo Chip. During this finale, hosts Tanner Foust, Adam Ferrara and Rutledge Wood each start their cross-country journeys on a scooter and must pass a series of challenges in order to upgrade to more Sturgis Rally appropriate rides. Once in Sturgis, they must transport Sturgis Buffalo Chip headlining act, Sweet Cyanide, to the Legendary Wolfman Jack stage. Knowing this, the hosts with the least impressive bikes make a last ditch effort to transform their transportation into something that will fit in at the Sturgis campground. Tune in to History Oct. 22 at 9 p.m. ET to see who wins this amusing challenge.
The upcoming series premier of CMT’s “Orange County Choppers” also features footage from the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. In the episode, OCC’s fearless leader, Paul Teutul Sr., and his team have only two and half weeks to design and build a chopper to be presented to a wounded combat veteran on the Buffalo Chip’s Wolfman Jack Stage. Tune in to CMT on Nov. 16 at 9 ET/PT to see the touching moment when the Buffalo Chip and Orange County Choppers honor this Purple Heart recipient in front of a sea of die-hard motorcycle fans during the Sturgis Rally.
In August, Country Music Television (CMT) aired three hour-long specials, two of which, Biker Battles and Tunnel of Fire, are currently accessible to watch online. The episodes were filmed exclusively at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip Campground as part of its CMT Bike Week series. In September, Velocity TV featured footage from the Chip’s Biker Belles® charity event and ride in an episode of “All Girls Garage.”
“The phenomenon of the Sturgis Rally and the diversity of the biker lifestyle is captivating for all audiences, not just bikers,” says Rod Woodruff, president of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip. “These television programs give the world a look at this fascinating culture that’s been unique to the Buffalo Chip for over thirty years.”
Watch for more footage from the Sturgis campground’s 32nd annual Motorcycle and Music Festival in upcoming episodes of Discovery Channel’s “Cops and Bikers Project,” Velocity TV’s “Café Racer TV Show” and Travel Channel’s “Trip Flip” and “Food Paradise.” More details will be announced as air dates approach. More information on Buffalo Chip TV episodes can be found and reservations can be made for the 2014 festival at www.BuffaloChip.com or by calling (605) 347-9000.

Watch Out For Deer
By Bandit | | General Posts
By Sam Kanish of the IronWorks Blog
Every year at this time I like to remind riders that Fall brings an additional hazard; deer on the highway. It’s that time of year when they are trying to mate so like every other species they do not think or act normal and find themselves putting riders and motorists in harms way. That fact was hit home the other night when Frenchie, one of my best friends, bagged or was bagged by a nine point buck. I don’t know the fate of the deer (I hope its venison in somebodies fridge) but Frenchie had a foot and ankle broken in 4 different places, lots of road rash, many bumps and bruises, and a concussion. Plus his beloved Road King was totaled. The area’s first responders were busy that night as they were called to another motorcycle-deer encounter on the same road just a couple miles from Frenchie’s accident scene. That rider was also seriously injured. So, everyone out there please be careful and ride safely, especially in the evenings and early mornings if you live in deer country.

Algie meets the Hardtail Harlot and a partnership is forged.
By Lisa “Hun” Stankovich (AKA the Hardtail Harlot)
I met Algie while chatting in a chat room in late 2004. We hit it off immediately. We shared a love for Rockabilly music and old Harleys. Bikers like Algie are few and far between and we soon developed a friendship.
“All 60’s-style” was Algie’s battle cry that week and that morning was no different. We all met in front of Sharki’s house ready to go. I stood beside the coolest relic of a flatside shovel chop I have ever seen: the Illinois Nazi. I held my breath as Algie kicked it.
