BIKERNET NEWS FLASH – XTREME 3D WHEELS, STEALTH REPORT, DEWEY CONTROVERSY AND GREATEST PULLEY’S IN THE WORLD

Old bikes in snow

Merry, Merry,

Damn, I hope you’re taking some time to party, relax, keep warm with the woman of your dreams and sneak out to the garage once in a while to tinker. We’re proud to announce that we’ve taken on three new sponsors this week: Axiom Cycles, Greene County Customs, and Patriot Steeds. We look forward to working with them for years to come. That’s our motto, goddamnit. We’ll build libraries of information on each company, so our readers have immediate access to whatever’s happening, last year or tomorrow.

Have you every watched Steel Dreams? They want to follow our Bonneville efforts for 2006 and the growth of Bikernet. Filming begins next week. I need to weld up our three gas tank lamps and wipe them off our lift. We’re installing the new Kendon lift next week so we can have three projects rolling at once. I’ll touch on projects at the end of the hearty news. Hang On:

New Pulley

THE GREATEST PULLEYS ON EARTH CAN BE BETTER–SuperMax has been making primary and final belt drives for Harleys since 1972. These are made of a secret space age polyurethane material that will out lookand out last any metal pulley ever made. Period.

SuperMax got to feeling sad about all those folks that found out thehard way – metal pulleys just don’t last very long. So, Phil Ross, master SuperMax designer, decided togive those old worn out pulleys a second chance.

Poly_Red_Old1

Old Pulley

They came up with yet anothermiracle. That’s right, polyurethane overlay for worn out metal pulleys. They just machine off the old pulley teeth and after some magic, bond a brand newoverlay onto the original pulley. Not only will you save your expensive pulley, but it will last longer, match the color of your bike and won’t squeak! More details can be seen at www.supermax.net

The SuperMax motto is “BUY YOUR LAST BELT DRIVE FIRST”. Well, some folks didn’tget the message, so they bought some other after market belt drive for their Harley.

BIKERNET GUNFIGHTER LESSONS AVAILABLE–A young man in the Old West wanted to be the best gunfighter alive. Hepracticed every day, but knew he was still missing something thatwould make him the best. One night in a saloon, he spotted an old man who was thegreatest gunfighter in his day.

So he asked the old man and told him hisdream. Bandit said, “Tie the bottom of your holster lower onto yourleg.”

The young gunman did what he was told, then in a flash he drew hisgun and shot the bow tie off the piano player. “Wow, that really helped. Do you have more suggestions?”

“Yeah, if you cut a notch in the top of yourholster where the hammer hits, the gun will come out smoother.” The young guy didwhat he was told, drew his gun in a blur and shot the cufflink off thepiano player.”Anything else?

“One more thing,” said the oldman, “getthat can of axle grease over there in the corner and rub it all over yourgun.”

“Will it make me a better gun fighter?”

“No,” said the old man, “butwhen Wyatt Earp gets done playing that piano he’s going to shove that gunup your ass, and it won’t hurt nearly as much.”

STEALTH REPORTING IN FROM NC–It is hard to believe we are just a week and a half away from Christmas! The time has really flown by.Here at STEALTH BIKE WORKS we have a couple of projects to keep us busy. We are really looking forward to spring, there I go again rushing time.

Here at SBW it seems we get the bikes no one else wants to work on. We get a lot of old iron head Sportsters which have been sitting for long periods of time. The bikes come in and they look pretty bad and won’t run due to years of neglect. Usually the guys who own these bikes have just gotten them for a good price. When they come in they are scared to death because of what it might take to get their bikes going. We do our best to work with them and to make them feel at home. I truly enjoy making them run again. Customers’ eyes light up and they are like kids at Christmas. So if you come across an old bike that has been sitting and you can’t find anyone to work on it, give us a call at 704-882-0889.

stealth bike works santa

SBW is starting to develop an active customer base. SBW is about the guy who works for his check every week, the guy who takes great pride in his bike and the guy who loves what the lifestyle is about. We like for you to spend some money at SBW, but if you want to come on by just to hang out and talk bikes that is cool too!

That is all the time I have, one of those old sportys is calling in the back!

Until next time, RIDE!

VICTORY LOGO

VICTORY NEW MODEL LAUNCH THIS WEEKEND IN LONG BEACH–The timing on this one couldn’t have been any better. Just at the daily high temperatures in Minneapolis were barely getting out of the single digits and the snow was falling… I (and my wife who is currently experiencing her first Minnesota Winter) took joy in knowing that in a matter of days, we’d be traveling back to our (old) home of Southern California to see some family and work at one of my favorite motorcycle shows of all – the Long Beach IMS Show.

In case you haven’t heard (or didn’t get the invite from the IMS folks), Victory Motorcycles is set to unveil a never-before-seen concept motorcycle at the Long Beach IMS Show Media event – this coming Friday 12/9/05 at 1pm. BMW, Ducati and Vespa are also set to unveil some pretty exciting machines as well (concepts and production bikes).

It’s at the Long Beach Convention Center— 12/9/05 – This Friday…
– Lunch is at noon
– Victory goes up at about 1pm or so
– BMW, Ducati and Vespa follow
– Reception to follow
– Doors to show open to public at 4:00 pm.

This is a pretty exciting deal for us – and we hope if you or someone on your staff is in the area – that you can make it. If not – don’t sweat it… I’ll make sure you receive the media info we’ll be handing out.

Exclusive to American Free Press–It was described as a typical gunfight between rival motorcycle gangs by the mainstream media but the Hells Angels are all white and their adversaries, the Mongols, are all Hispanic.

Does their shoot-out at Harrah’s Casino in Laughlin, Nev., on the Nevada-California border signal the first battle in a new race war? A lawyer who was inside the casino at the time fears it does. For decades, the public has been conditioned to the violent behavior of Hells Angels; every few years, there would be stories about the bikers rolling into a small town, destroying property and engaging in violent conduct. They are not classic, middle-class Americans. But, until now, their brawls have been with other white gangs, similarly inclined toward tattoos, long hair and drug running.

What the involved lawyer and others close to the situation fear is something larger than a typical gang fight: A race war.California is being overrun by illegal aliens from Mexico. They are crowding lower-rung workers-typical of Hells Angels people-out of jobs by working at below the minimum wage and, in many cases, without costly fringe benefits imposed on American companies by government.Criminal aliens have formed their own gangs and compensate for their low incomes by mugging whites-not only the poor, but those higher on the economic ladder.

Many men in pin-striped suits cheer for Hells Angels. Many wish it would be politically correct to join in their fight.Resentment of criminal aliens who overrun California, costing taxpayers countless billions in welfare benefits and crime, has been seething for years. It is at a peak. The ingredients for a race war that goes far be yond bikers battling is frightening, observers say. By C. Parvin Foner

Postal Service Unveils 2006 Commemorative Motorcycle Stamps–What do Baseball, Batman, Brooklyn’s Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Hattie McDaniel and Harley-Davidson have in common? They’re all just a sampling of American icons that will be highlighted on 2006 Commemorative postage stamps, the Postal Service announced today.

“Our 2006 program commemorates a wide range of diverse American icons with something that will appeal to everyone,” said Postmaster General John E. Potter in describing stamps that will honor Baseball sluggers, comic book heroes, the world’s longest bridge span, the first African-American to earn an Oscar and America’s love affair with motorcycles.

On Aug. 7, during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, SD, the role of motorcycles in American culture will be recognized on four “American Motorcycles” stamps featuring digital illustrations of a 1918 Cleveland, a 1940 Indian Four, a 1965 Harley-Davidson Electra-Glide, and a circa 1970 chopper. The Cleveland, Indian and Harley-Davidson stamps are based on motorcycles in existence today. The circa 1970 chopper featured on the stamp was created by stamp artist Steve Buchanan in consultation with professional chopper builders. Although lacking various safety features such as mirrors and turn signals that are usually required under today’s laws, this chopper would have been street-legal in 1970.

With the issuance of the American Motorcycles stamps, the U.S. Postal Service recognizes the role of motorcycles in American culture with four stamps that feature digital illustrations of a 1918 Cleveland, a 1940 Indian Four, a 1965 Harley-Davidson Electra-Glide, and a circa 1970 chopper.Cleveland 1918

The single-cylinder Cleveland motorcycle depicted on this stamp was built by the Cleveland Motorcycle Manufacturing Company of Cleveland, Ohio.Advertisements claimed that this motorcycle, which featured a 2.5-horspower, single-cylinder motor, could travel 75 miles on a single gallon of gasoline and reach speeds of up to 35 to 40 miles per hour. Weighing around 150 pounds and selling for $175, the Cleveland was both lightweight and affordable, making it a popular motorcycle of its time. The model for the “Cleveland 1918” stamp artwork is a 1918 Cleveland A2 owned by Penny Nickerson of Long Island, New York.

The motorcycle depicted on this Indian stamp was made by the Indian Motorcycle Company. The 1940 entry in a series of deluxe, four-cylinder motorcycles known as the Four, this streamlined bike featured skirted fenders that partially covered the wheels, a controversial design innovation that soon became an Indian trademark. The model for the illustration featured on this stamp is a motorcycle owned by Michael and Larry Spielfogel of New York City. It is depicted in the deep red color often associated with Indian motorcycles.

Harley-Davidson 1965,With features such as whitewall tires, extensive chrome, large fenders, and spacious fiberglass saddlebags, the Harley-Davidson featured on this stamp is considered by many to be one of the company’s most iconic motorcycles. Known as the Electra-Glide, this model was first manufactured in 1965, when its new features included a push-button electric starter. The model for the illustration featured on the Harley-Davidson 1965 stamp is a motorcycle owned by George Tsunis of Port Jefferson, NY.

Chopper c.1970,The name “chopper” derives from the process of removing, or “chopping,” unnecessary or unwanted components from a motorcycle. The term often indicates an extensively customized motorcycle with such features as a stretched frame, stepped seat, and raised handlebars. Typically, the frame has been stretched with an extended-length fork leading to the front wheel.

Especially prominent during the 1960s and 1970s, choppers follow in a tradition of earlier customized motorcycles that were known as “bobbers” for their shortened, or bobbed, fenders.

The circa 1970 chopper featured on this stamp was invented by the stamp artist in consultation with professional chopper builders. Although lacking various safety features such as mirrors and turn signals that are required today, this chopper would have been legal to ride circa 1970.

The digital illustrations featured on the American Motorcycles stamps were created by Steve Buchanan of Winsted, CT. The illustrations are based on existing restored motorcycles, reference photographs, and consultation with owners and experts; however, some colors and design features have been altered for artistic purposes or to maintain historical accuracy.

BIKERNET NEWS WIRELESS SECURITY TECH– Go to a second-hand store, buy a pair of men’s used work boots, a really big pair. Put them outside your front door on top of a copy of Guns and Ammo magazine. Put a dog dish beside it. A really big dish.

EPA SUCKS-THE LIFE OUT OF OUR BUSINESS–Our options are to Fight The EPA.The problem is that the people that this affects were not notified about itand the impact affects jobs and livelihood.

Even IF the Bikers Allowed this to happen it will not even dent the realproblem of emissions. The Motorcycles do not cause enough emissions to talkabout.

The EPA Ruling is a farce to make the public think they are doing somethingto solve the problem. In fact the major polluters have lobbyist and are spreading money around sothey do not have to comply.

It is another government agency that thinks Bikers Are A Pushover. Are American Bikers Pussies or are they going to Join in Fighting This?

We’re planning immediate meetings and compiling facts and plan to move against this.

This may be the new era of ABATE. What we started back then may have to bestarted over with a new name and people ready to Fight. I know that there are a lot of Real Bikers out there and they will cometogether to fight this bullshit.

I will keep you informed as things come together on this.

MOTORCYCLE TRAINING WARS–I got this from a friend that was speaking about M$F and their efforts to have a monopoly on Rider Education. If they can convince states to pass the laws they want about forcing Motorcycle Riders to attend their very expensive schools they will be Guaranteed A Very Large Income For As Long As They Are In Business.

Every State in our country has a Motor Vehicle Department. One of the functions of that department is to test people to see if can safely operate a motor vehicle. The People Must Always Have That Option as Opposed To Mandatory Training.

The fact that there are those trying to make this Mandatory For Motorcyclist and Not Other Kinds Of Vehicle Operators is Prejudice and Unlawful.

Every Motorcyclist in this country Needs To Contact Their legislator and Tell Them To Vote NO On This Issue.

Most Motorcycle Rights Organizations are against Mandatory Training BUT You Need To Help By Writing Your Legislator and Let Them Know To VOTE NO! on this. Do not depend on others to do this for you.

LIFESTYLE CYCLES BANNER

LIFESTYLE CYCLES PLANS 2006 RIDES– We really need your feedback! The New Year is fast approaching, and LifeStyle Cycles is planning some group motorcycle rides for 2006. Check out our ideas below and tell us your thoughts. Your comments and input will help us plan even better rides for you and your friends in the months to come.

Performance Machine (www.performancemachine.com) makes some of the most elite custom motorcycle wheels and accessories in the industry, and we can get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look and private tour of their plant to see what they do and how they do it. After that, we can head out to the Blue Cafe on the Promenade in Long Beach for some cool live music and raffles.

We’re also thinking about doing a big ride to the LA Calendar Show in Long Beach, Sponsored by Bikernet.com, http://www.fastdates.com. This is one of the biggest and best motorcycle shows in the LA area, and definitely one that is not to be missed! We’d meet up at LifeStyle Cycles in the morning and head out as a big group to the event. What do you think?

Speaking of shows, we were thinking of a ride to the Annual Las Vegas Bike Fest ! We’d leave in the morning and stop by the famous Calico Ghost Town where we can get a tour, grab some lunch and continue on out to Las Vegas! Depending on the number of interested people who respond, we’ll see if we can get some discounted hotel rooms for our group in Vegas, as well as plan a big party on the Saturday night of the show.

Santee Frames and exhaust systems are legendary in the custom bike industry and we can get a sneak peek inside this state of the art facility. After a private tour to see how custom motorcycle frames and exhaust systems are crafted, we can head out for some awesome Mexican food at the Sage Brush Cantina , a great biker-friendly hangout in Calabasas.

That’s just a few ideas we have for rides for 2006. So what do you think? Where would you like to ride to and what would you like to see? We really want to hear from you, so please respond to this email and let us know your thoughts.

Any and all comments are appreciated.

THAT’S A HOLIDAY WRAP–My fingers are burning. I ran across a couple of items in the news that won’t fit due to the length, but you need to check ’em out.

First Geno, from the HORSE magazine sent me a release from SEMA on California Special Construction registrations. It’s incredible. I’ll post it under Special Reports (at the end of the news), under political issues. Next Darcy Betlach forwaded “Rules for 2006”. It will also be posted in special reports, but I’m not sure what category? Finally I received a complete rundown on American Performance Cycles’ 2006 line-up. If I have photos of the bikes, I’ll launch it in our Road Test/New Model Department.

News end old photl

What else? About the Holiday Blues, CNN interviewed a doctor, on the subject, who was full of shit. We pile too much shit on our backs during this supposedly fun-filled time. The weather sucks and the pressure to attend all the functions, buy all the gifts and earn all the bucks is insurmountable. Ah, but there’s solutions. First take a day off, fire up your computer and Christmas shop on line. No traffic, crappy travel on slick roads, parking nightmares, You’ll find better prices, and all the presents will be shipped.

Okay, so the shopping is done, now you can go get the tree, chase a woman (you need to warm up, right?), relax and have a drink. Oh, and screw all the gatherings. Pick one or two, with your new or seasoned girl and spend the rest of your time with her.

That’s it for now. I planned to dive into our Schedule for next year, but screw it, besides it changes by the minute. It’s Jack Daniels time and time to tinker in the garage.

Ride Forever,

GIRLS OF BIKERNET LAUNCH SCHEDULE–We just don’t know when. It will be in March but the actual day isn’t nailed down. John Gilbert is the editor and we’re working with biker photographers and models all over the world.

“Here is another shot of Liz and the Texas Fireball, do you want me to see about using her,” Rigid Frame Richard asked me recently?

“Hell yes,” Was my answer.

“Are y’all going to be looking for stuff like this or topless?”

“This and topless,” I said, “and don’t come back without it.”

SPEEDING NOT NECESSARILY RECKLESS–NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Speeding is not necessarily reckless, even at 128 mph, a judge ruled in the case of a motorcyclist who tried to flee from state troopers.

With some reluctance, County Judge John Steinheider ruled last week that Jacob H. Carman, 20, was not guilty of reckless driving on Sept. 5, when he was spotted by a trooper who then chased him at the top speed of his cruiser’s odometer – 128 mph.

“As much as it pains me to do it, speed and speed alone is not sufficient to establish reckless driving,” the judge told Carman on Friday. “If you had had a passenger, there would be no question of conviction. If there had been other cars on the roadway, if you would’ve went into the wrong lane or anything, I would have convicted you.”

Otoe County prosecutor David Partsch acknowledged that Carman could have been charged with speeding but, “We felt that the manner in which he was operating the motorcycle was reckless.”

Carman didn’t get off entirely. He was fined $300 for expired tags and other violations.

We hit their Old School Bobber yesterday, next we’ll feature this sharp custom, the Renegade and hold on next week for the first 300/300 bike. santa

BIKERNET RECEIVES LETTER FROM SANTA–

I’ve busted my ass for damn near a year,
Instead of “Thanks Santa”–what do I hear?
The old lady bitches cause I work late at night.
The elves want more money–The reindeer all fight.

Rudolph got drunk and goosed all the maids.
Donner is pregnant and Vixen has AIDS.
And just when I thought that things would get better
Those assholes from the IRS sent me a letter,
They say I owe taxes–if that ain’t damn funny
Who the hell ever sent Santa Claus any money?

And the kids these days–they all are the pits
They want the impossible–Those mean little shits
I spent a whole year making wagons and sleds
Assembling dolls…Their arms, legs and heads
I made a ton of yo yo’s–No request for them,
They want computers and robots…they think –
I’m- IBM!

Flying through the air…dodging the trees
Falling down chimneys and skinning my knees
I’m quitting this job there’s just no enjoyment
I’ll sit on my fat ass and draw unemployment.

There’s no Christmas this year now you know the reason,
I found me a blonde honey
I’m going SOUTH to hang out and ride with ROGUE for the season

Hipo air cleaner
BIKERNET air cleaner of the year. Guess why?

Two-Bit Choppers Unveils New Line of HiPo Billet Air Cleaners–Milliken, CO — With the proliferation of big-inch crate engines being used in almost all of today’s hottest custom bikes and choppers, the need for a high quality air cleaner that not only looks good but can also flow a superior amount of air has never been greater. The new HiPo Billet line of air cleaners from Two-Bit Choppers accomplishs both by using the latest in filter element design, along with proven velocity ring technology to create one of the best looking, best performing air filters on the market today.

We started with a 6.250″ round x 2″ thick serviceable cotton element with flow through face element for the absolute best intake flow potential available on the market today. Flow bench testing has shown maximum air flow potential of over 800 CFM as compared to just 345 CFM from the factory’s performance assembly, ensuring you’ll be able to feed even the hungriest of big inch crate motors with ease. To further enhance flow, a turbulence-busting velocity ring is machined right into the back plate, improving intake port velocity and all important torque-producing cylinder pressure.

These new air cleaners will fit all carbureted and Delphi fuel injected applications, including CV, Mikuni and S&S carb applications. All of our production cleaners come in deep show chrome (courtesy of Chromemasters) standard, with options for raw machined, polished and powder coated finishes upon special request.

All the billet front and back plates are designed, cut, polished and chromed right here in the U.S.A. by Two-Bit Choppers.

Supreme Court allows Hells Angels’ lawsuit– WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court refused Monday to muscle into a dispute between the Hells Angels and California law enforcement agencies over the shooting of three family pets during a police search.

That means officers can be sued by the biker group over 1998 raids that an appeals court said went too far.The case presented an interesting question for the justices: what type of constitutional protection does someone have when a police officer executing a search warrant shoots a pet? For now, the justices declined to answer it.

Attorneys for the San Jose and Santa Clara county officers said that the officers had to kill the dogs, a 100-pound Rottweiler at one house and two dogs that resembled bull-mastiffs at another, to protect their safety.

Lawyers for the San Jose charter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club said that officers had a week to plan their searches, which were coordinated to happen at the same time early one January morning. They had other options, including using pepper spray or asking for help from an animal control officer, the lawyers said.”In determining the reasonableness of the officers’ conduct, it is unfair and improper to consider hypothetical alternatives,” justices were told by George Rios, a lawyer for the city of San Jose.

The case dates back to 1997, when a carpenter was beaten to death in a San Jose strip club, the Pink Poodle. A member of Hells Angels was arrested – although he was later found innocent – and police received information that the Hells Angels had a videotape of the beating.

Police coordinated a search of the homes of Hells Angels members and the group’s club house. They found no videotape, but seized everything with Hells Angels symbols. That meant truckloads of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, belts, hats, vests, sculptures, and pictures, as well as a refrigerator door that had a decal on it and a concrete block from the sidewalk.

No seized items were used at the murder trial, justices were told.

“The intrusion was severe,” the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said in allowing the Hells Angels to sue.The cases are Decena and Linderman v. San Jose Charter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, 05-37, 05-45.

Weld wheel

“Weld Introduces Black Powder Coated Wheels in All Styles and Sizes”–Kansas City, MO- Weld Racing Motorcycle recently announced the addition of a special manufacturing process which powder coats motorcycle wheels for any of their existing designs. Mark Finnie, Vice President/GM stated, “We have always been an innovator, not a follower and felt that the market warranted us coming out with a line of powder coated wheels.

“Just a couple of years ago, everything on a bike was chrome, but now builders and consumers alike are looking for that extra edge to make their bike different from the masses.”

“We have been developing this wheel for almost a year, but have held back the releasing of it so we could perfect our powder coating technique. We are the only manufacturer that offers a 5-year warranty on our chrome wheels and this same commitment to perfection was one of our key objectives in the development of a powder coated line of wheels”, Finnie concluded.

The first wheel in the “Flare Series” was the Forgewire which has received “rave reviews” from builders and dealers alike. The flare series was introduced just 9 short months ago and have much more dimension to them?almost appearing to have a 3D effect. All the “flare series” front wheels have an integrated hub and the rears are either pulley/hub or driveside. The integrated hub greatly reduces the run out in the wheel, reduces weight and allows the design to continue onto the hub face of the actual patent pending wheel itself. You must use Weld’s rotors and pulleys on this series of wheels.

Pictured here is a black powder coated Forgewire wheel. These new powder coated wheels are available in all sizes and styles, including the Master Builder “Pro Series” and the “Flare series” line of wheels, including the “wide tire” 17″ x 12″, and the 18″ x 14″ wheels. Weld is also adding 17″ x 6.25″ wheels and the “reintroduction” of the 18″ x 4″ to accommodate the larger tire sizes that Harley-Davidson is now offering with their new models. These “OEM” sizes are available in chrome, backed by a 5-year warranty, show polished finish and now with black powder coating.

Please call 866-753-4289 to receive Weld Racing Motorcycle’s ’05 catalog featuring their complete line of wheels, rotors, pulleys, sprockets, billet calipers and apparel or visit www.weldmotorcycle on the internet. Weld Motorcycle, 6600 Stadium Drive, Kansas City, Mo. 64129

wld parts

Hey,

It’s a great day. I’ll tell you why. I just made a mad run to Utah last weekend and picked up a basket 1940 WLD 45-inch flathead. It’s the basis of our first Bonneville effort, and you’ll see it come together on Bikernet. This shot is our Mascot for the build except for the flat tire. Hey, I’ll looking for some WLD tanks, these were built for a servi-car with a right hand shift.

BOBBER MASCOT

I think (probably dreaming) that I’m getting a handle on the Holiday blues and scheduling for 2006. We keep saying that we’re going to hang close to the Headquarters, reduce travel, finish more books and devote most of our time to Bikernet. Get this, right here in LA there are several events within a day’s ride. There’s a show in Phoenix, the Long Beach Cycle World show, the Cow Palace Swap meet and the Sunday Ventura David Mann antique show. Holy fuck!

That’s overwhelming. Let’s hit the news and I’ll pour some of our schedule and cure for the Holiday blues, over ice cubes at the end:

ride bell
This custom Bikernet Lucky Brass Bell is for sale in the Bikernet Black Market, below.

THE MYSTERY OF THE BRASS BELL–A friend of mine was involved in an accident on his Road King (somebody turned in front of him and swears they didn’t see him). The bike was totaled and by the grace of God…he wasn’t! It was the love of his life with almost 100,000 miles on it many of which I was passenger. A couple of years ago I gave him a bell to keep away the road demons and when he was able to get up and about and go see his bike he kept it along with a few chrome pieces he wanted for the new bike.

Another biker friend at work said he wasn’t sure if the old bell which was involved in the accident would be good luck or bad luck to put on the new bike and suggested I e-mail you and ask. The legend card doesn’t talk about re-using the bell. What’s your opinion?

Last year, the design was chosen from an entry submitted by graphic artist and ride participant Thomas Bauer from Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Bauer?s artwork was his own interpretation of the event and what the ride stands for.

The board has relaxed the submission regulations for the 2006 contest and hopes to obtain many entries that reflect a personal experience or interpretation. Applications and rules are available now on the official website http://www.al-tn-trailoftears.org or by contacting 1-877-TOT-TRIP.

The following must be included in the design: Event Name “13th Annual Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle Ride?”. The Phrase ” Riding to Remember,” The names of the five Nations: Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, and Seminole. The rules suggest how the entries should be submitted, however, any format will be accepted and considered as long at they arrive before the deadline of January 7, 2006. The winner will be announced in March and will receive $250.00 in prize money, VIP Ride passes, two T-shirts, and recognition of your contribution at the PowWow in Waterloo.

Big Twin West Show 2005 – November 18-20, 2005, VALERIE REPORT–This was the Ultimate West Coast Big Twin show. Fresh ideas, cool products, dealers, vendors, media, distributors and builders, there was mayhem everywhere. The Second Annual Official World Championship of custom bike builder presented by Custom Chrome produced some sweet rides to check out. First place winner takes home $25,000 and a Championship ring. Over 100 builders from all around the world made the trip to Las Vegas to place in the top 12. The show was open for two days to vendors and one-day open to the public.

After the show was over Hogs & Heifers Saloon and House of Blues (Presented by Custom Chrome) had a VIP party that was open to vendors. We had a great time hanging out with big names from all facets of the industry. Thank you John Leach at Avon Tyres for the VIP passes. There were people from all over the world including?Amber Fry who was working at one of the booths.

Custom Performance had a great display with their now famous turbo bikes. Militec-1 shared the space with CP; the guys at Custom Performance have really gotten behind this product. For more information about Militec-1, visit my website www.vtracegirl.com. Militec-1 increases power, reduces wear and reduces operating temperatures, a cool deal that just pours in your crankcase. Nick Trask, dyno specialist at Custom performance has consistently seen a 2 to 3 horsepower gain after adding Militec and verifying the gains on a proven dyno run.

I was working (signing posters) in the Legend Air ride Suspension/Independent Cycle, Inc. booth. My custom fatboy and Custom Performance Turbo V-Rod race bike was on display in the Legend booth. Both of my bikes have the Legend air ride suspension. Ray Price, Verl Smith, and Jeff Wesscott (AZ) had their drag bikes on display at the show, as well. Congratulations to Independent Cycle, Inc – Mike Pugh who placed 2nd in World Championship Custom Bike Builder show. This is the second time Independent Cycles came home with second place. Good job Jesse Jurrens and good luck next year.

Check out http://www.independentcycleinc.com. I also, want to Congratulate Roger Goldhammer – Custom Bike Builder Champion for his 1st place win this year again.

Next week, I will be in Gainesville, Fl. attending the Frank Hawley’s NHRA Drag Racing School. I will be polishing my skills with the help of George Bryce. A two-day school at the Gainesville Raceway on a Pro Stock Suzuki, 250 horsepower, 7 second ET at about 170 mph. They will enhance my staging, burn out procedures, timing system, proper procedure, handling and safety and bump up my “mental” side of the sport. Looking forward to learning from the best, George Bryce. If I drive well for the 6 runs, maybe they will sign off for my NHRA Competition License. Cross your fingers!

Bandit Interviews Willie G.

For those who don’t knowWilliam G. Davidson is theVice President of Styling at theHarley-Davidson Motor Company. He’s also the head of the newWillie G. Davidson Product Development Center inMilwaukee, Wisconsin.

As Vice President of Styling William G. “Willie G.” Davidson guides the design of all Harley-Davidson motorcycles. For nearly 40 years Willie G. has been responsible for successfully creating the distinctive look of all Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Willie G. is the son of former Harley-Davidson president, William H. Davidson and the grandson of one of the original founders, William A. Davidson. Each of his three children, Karen, Bill and Michael, take active roles within the Company.

One of Willie G’s early and most notable designs, the classic Super Glide, was introduced in 1971. Following this success Willie G. and his design team developed a family of “custom” motorcycles, including the Lowrider, Caf? Racer, Heritage Softail, Fat Boy and Road King.

A Wisconsin native, Willie G. attended the University of Wisconsin for three years before transferring to and graduating from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Prior to joining the Company in 1963 Willie G. worked for over five years with Brook Stevens Associates, designing products ranging from furniture to outboard motors.

Willie G. was one of 13 executives who raised more than $75 million to purchase Harley-Davidson from American Machine and Foundry Incorporated (AMF) in 1981. He was one of the company’s owners during Harley-Davidson’s period of private ownership from 1981-1986.

Willie G. is an avid rider and has helped raise million of dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and other national charities through his participation in motorcycle events. His artistic vision and generous dedication to the sport of motorcycling at these and other motorcycle rallies has made him a legend among motorcycle enthusiasts. In 2000 he was inducted into the American Motorcycle Association Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Sturgis Hall of Fame in 1993.

I caught up with Willie briefly at the Los Angeles Road Tour location and asked him a couple of question about the design center, custom bikes and the future. Enjoy.

Bandit: The last time I was in Milwaukee, in ’97, you were just opening the design center. How’s it going?

Willie: We are in the midst of a major addition. It was the necessary step to growth, putting everyone under one roof. We’re adding more office space and test space.

Bandit: Do you function constantly in design or do you delve into the engineering aspects?

Willie: Mainly industrial design is our area of expertise. We have engineers in our design center because we must work in sinc with them. A motorcycle is function and beauty, the way it looks and works must come together. There’s a way to building form to enhance function.

We can’t do this sort of thing locked up in a room. We have to get out into the streets and feel the rhythm and see what others are experiencing, so we ride and attend events.

Bandit: How’s the balancing act between tradition looks, new school designs and metric cruises designs.

Willie: You have to pay attention to the market and be sensitive to the air-cooled motorcycle which is our bread and butter. As volume increases and you want to continue your success you must broaden somehow to appeal to different riders whether in Europe or performance riders here such as the V-rod. It’s an addition to the product line not a replacement. We’re excited about it, but it won’t replace any of the air-cooled line.

It’s a balancing act. That’s exactly what we’re doing.

Bandit: What’s new on your plate right now?

Willie: That’s an awkward question because of confidentiality. I’ll just say design is discovery. We’re always looking for a solution. We’re facing numerous projects.

Bandit: From the custom product side you’re doing a tremendous job. Are you having fun with it?

Willie: Yeah. We are all riders and enjoy changing our own bikes. The custom parts line gives us more flexibility. I go to Daytona every year and each year I think I’ve seen it all, then I arrive and stumble upon something completely new which challenges us.

Bandit: From a government standpoint, is there one thing that is coming up that you are particularly concerned about?

Willie: We pay very close attention to that area. We have a team devoted to monitoring government actions. We are fully keyed into what’s happening. I think this is very serious stuff.

Bandit: Are you working on any personal projects at home?

Willie: We’re restoring a beautiful farm which will be terrific for displaying antique motorcycles. I’m also playing with a V-rod and a Deuce.

SEX OFFENDER GETS 40 MONTHS FOR RUNNING A CHOP SHOP– TALLAHASSEE, Attorney General Charlie Crist announced Craig Shaw of Lehigh Acres has been sentenced to nearly three and a half years in prison for operating an illegal motorcycle chop shop. Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office discovered the operation while conducting a routine check of the man’s status as a registered sex offender.During the routine check, deputies found two white vans on Shaw’s property. After getting Shaw’s permission to search the vans, deputies found several complete motorcycle engines inside the vans.

Deputies also found eight motorcycles with stolen VINs, numerous motorcycle parts and tools used to put new VINs on vehicles.

Shaw was arrested and charged with various counts of grand theft.

“While sex offender registration laws are primarily intended to protect children and other innocent Floridians,” said Crist, “it is comforting to know that these laws can also help catch thieves and other lawbreakers.”

Shaw pled guilty in August to one count of grand theft, seven counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle and one count of operating a chop shop. Shaw was sentenced by Judge Thomas Reese to 40 months in prison and ordered to pay over $17,800 in court costs, fines, and restitution.

POLARIS DEALERS NATIONWIDE HOST TOYS FOR TOTS DROP-OFF SITES–MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Nov. 29, 2005 – As the crispness of autumn gives way to the cold holiday season, good boys and girls anxiously await a visit from jolly old St. Nick. But for many children right here at home, and for reasons a child shouldn’t have to understand, sometimes Santa simply can’t make the trip.

Now in its 58th year, Toys for Tots has helped pick up the slack when Chris Cringle isn’t able to reach every child’s home. With operations in all 50 states, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve volunteers have collected toys for countless kids, from toddlers through teenagers.

This year, Polaris Industries is enlisting in the cause and hosting thousands of official drop-off sites for Toys for Tots donations at dealerships across the country. The recreational vehicle manufacturer and its nationwide network of dealers have joined Toys for Tots in an effort to put smiles on the faces of less fortunate children during the holiday season. Polaris dealers nationwide will collect toys, and the company also will contribute $230,000 in donations.

“We are very honored to work with Toys for Tots and excited to help make the holidays better for underserved children,” said Tom Tiller, CEO Polaris Industries. “This year has been difficult for many families, but people can help by simply adding an extra toy to their holiday shopping list and dropping it at their local Polaris dealership.”

It’s all in fun and I thought it mite be something good for your site.

BIKERNET REPORTED EMBEDDED IN EPA, REPORTS–I SEE FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS AND 4TH AMENDMENT RIGHTS VIOLATED. THE SMALL NUMBER OF BIKES BEING REGULALTED DOES NOT MAKE THIS REG WORTH ANYTHING. IT DOES NOT MEET THE RULES OF COMPLIANCE VS HEALTH STANDARDS.

I do believe that the EPA has made some serious mistakes in their recent rulings on regulations pertaining to motorcycles. The Motorcyclist of America have been singled out as a group, without their proper participation under Environmental Justice.

Most Motorcyclist by their behavior patterns do not read the Federal Register or pay a lot of attention until it Affects their Lifestyle and Behavior.

By failing to notify the Motorcyclist through media they would read they failed to notify a Minority Population of rule changes they were planning that would impact their lives. This is a violation of Federal Law.

Motorcycles present about .0001% of the pollution and if the rules EPA are pushing are allowed to stay motorcycles will soon have to follow European Rules and regulations.

A point of interest is that Lawn mowers Affect Air Pollution more than Motorcycles. I think that with the help of Concerned Motorcyclist like myself, the Media, M.R.O. and other sources we can force a study of how this will impact motorcycle riders. I am sure that the outcome of that study will change how EPA is now being applied to motorcyclist.

Environmental Justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

The Office of Environmental Justice (OEJ) coordinates the Agency’s efforts to integrate environmental justice into all policies, programs, and activities. EPA’s environmental justice mandate extends to all of the Agency’s work, including setting standards, permitting facilities, awarding grants, issuing licenses and regulations and reviewing proposed actions by the federal agencies. OEJ works with all stakeholders to constructively and collaboratively address environmental and public health issues and concerns. The Office also provides information, technical and financial resources to assist and enable the Agency to meet its environmental justice goals and objectives.

EPA’s goal is to provide an environment where all people enjoys the same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards and equal access to the decision-making process to maintain a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work. TEXAS NATIONAL BIKE SHOW WINNER–Hey here is a shot of that Dyna that your reader was asking about. Hell, I may be slow but at least I get the job done (ok well, most of the time err uh sometimes?).

BIKERNET MEDICAL DEPARTMENT FINDINGS–Steve Wilson, an investigative reporter for Channel 7 News inDetroit, did a story on generic drug price gouging by pharmacies. He found in hisinvestigation that some of these generic drugs were marked up as much as3,000% or more. Yes, that’s not a typo…..three thousand percent!

So often, weblame the drug companies for the high cost of drugs, and usually rightfullyso. But in this case, the fault clearly lies with the pharmacies themselves. For example, if you had to buy a prescription drug, and bought the namebrand, you might pay $100 for 100 pills. The pharmacist might tell you that if you get the generic equivalent, they would only cost $80, making you think you are “saving” $20.

What the pharmacist is not telling you is that those 100 generic pillsmay have only cost him $10!

At the end of the report, one of the anchors asked Mr. Wilson whether or not there were any pharmacies that did not adhere to this practice, and he said that Costco consistently charged little over their cost for the generic drugs.

I went to the Costco site, where you can look up any drug, and get its online price. It says that the in-store prices are consistent with the online prices. I was appalled. Just to give you one example from my own experience, I had to use the drug, Compazine, which helps prevent nausea in chemo patients.

I used the generic equivalent, which cost $54.99 for 60pills at CVS. I checked the price at Costco, and I could have bought 100 pillsfor $19.89. For 145 of my pain pills, I paid $72.57. I could have got 150 atCostco for $28.08.

I would like to mention, that although Costco is a “membership” type store, you do NOT have to be a member to buy prescriptions there, as it is a federally regulated substance. You just tell them at the door that you wish to use the pharmacy, and they will let you in. (this is true)

BIKERNET SENIORS DEPARTMENTAn elderly couple found themselves being given a tour of heaven by Saint Peter. “Here is your oceanside condo, over there are the tennis courts, swimming pool, and two golf courses. “Hell, Delores,” the old man hissed when Saint Peter walked off, “we could have been here ten years ago if we hadn’t quit smoking and eating fried food.”

TP ENGINEERING ADDS NEW OE PRODUCTS TO THEIR 2006 ENGINE LINE-UP–Bethel, CT- Just added to all of their 2006 engines is a new 2-piece billet cam cover with a chromed nosecone, and a remote ignition that uses a crankshaft position sensor installed in the engine case. “Our old style cam covers had the ignition located in the nose cone, but our new low-cavitation flywheel design (patent pending) allows the new crankshaft triggered ignition to be remotely mounted away from the cam cover”, stated Duke Wainright, VP for TP Engineering. “We’re also looking seriously at fuel injection and our new flywheel system will be instrumental in getting us there”

TP Engineering is the premier V-Twin engine builder in the US. One of the best kept secrets in the industry is that TP Engineering manufacturers all of their own parts, cases and internal components of each and every engine that they build? They are totally self contained! All external and internal parts and components are manufactured right here in the United States. TP relies on no outside sources to produce their premium engines. Unlike most engine manufacturers, you will never find a TP part being made overseas.

Their 2006 engine line up includes a 114″ (4 1/8″ bore x 4 _” stroke), 121″ (4 1/8″ bore x 4 1/2″ stroke) and 124″ (4 1/8″ bore x 4 5/8″ stroke) ? all packed full of reliable “fire breathing” horsepower and “stump pulling” torque and feature their new proprietary Scramjet air cleaner which performs as good as it looks. (5 Horsepower gain on stock EFI Twin Cams) And TP has several other patented products found on each and every one of their engines, making them an innovator and not an imitator. All TP engines are blueprinted when built and are factory test-run before shipment for the utmost in quality control. All of these factors add up to a quieter, smother running, reliable high performance engine.

All TP engines are available in the following custom finishes? Show polished, standard polished, powder coated in the color of your choice with the fins polished, show quality “diamond cut” polished, standard “diamond cut” polished and in a raw, natural finish. No other engine manufacturer offers all of these options direct from the factory.

TP Engineering has recently received their EPA certification on all of their engines which qualifies them as a true OE engine manufacturer in all 50 states. Custom and OE bike manufacturers can use TP Engineering engines in their bikes and receive federal and state approval with just a short confirmatory test.

For dealers or custom bike builders interested in adding TP Engineering products to their line up, products please call 866-873-6446 or email them at info@tpeng.com . To see the latest from TP Engineering, visit www.tpengineering.com.

T-SHIRT DEAL OF THE CENTURY–Seth Doulton has some HOT BIKE t-shirts left over from the show series. They have some of the finest art on them I’ve every run across. He needs to unload them and will do-so cheap. If you’ll buy enough he’ll even print the other side of the shirt with your shop or company name for only one buck more. Hell he’ll hook you up with booth space at one of his show, make you a show sponsor, tie your shoes, bring you beer, you name it.

STEALTH BIKEWORKS BANNER

STEALTH REPORT FROM N.C.–Well it is that time of year when toy runs are everywhere. This Sunday the Charlotte C.B.A presents their annual Toys For Tots Toy Run. STEALTH BIKE WORKS has been invited to participate in the parade. We will have a small float with our rolling chassis on display. This is a great honor for SBW, being the new kids on the block. Thanks to all at the C.B.A who thought of us and invited us.

Here at the shop we keep moving along. We have our shop project, our 71 shovel project and a Russell Mitchell inspired bike for one of our customers. You probably saw the new tour-pak storage rack last week. These racks save wear and tear on your tour-pak. They would make great Christmas gifts. If anyone is interested give us a call at SBW, 704-882-0889. We got our first set of tanks this week from a customer who wants the sides “dished.”

I watched the new V-Twin show this week and it was o.k. I wasn’t that impressed, hopefully it will grow and improve. It was good to hear that the Discovery Bike Build Off’s are coming back. I have been watching the re-runs every chance I get.

As the winter chill approaches and the end of the year draws near, it is time to start those winter projects so everything about winter isn’t all bad and it will be spring again before we know it. Time flies by and it seems it has really taken off on me since opening SBW.

If you get a chance get out and ride to a toy run. You will be glad you did!

Until next week, RIDE!

BIKERS IN BLUE–Some bikers are notorious for breaking the law. But the Hired Guns are paid to enforce it.Founded in 2002 by six Bayonne police officers, the Hired Guns Motorcycle Club now boasts more than 15 members – all cops who ride Harleys.

“It’s a form of escape from everyday life,” said Jim Mahoney, 41, a Bayonne narcotics detective and president of the Hired Guns.

“Some people use alcohol and drugs. We ride,” he said.Police motorcycle clubs are nothing new: the Blue Knights have been around since the 1970s and boast 19,000 members worldwide.

But while other clubs will admit firefighters and civilians, said Mahoney, his club prides itself for admitting only sworn law enforcement officers. Its current membership includes cops from Bayonne and New York City and troopers from the New Jersey State Police.

DAMN, I NEARLY SPACED–The news is wrapped, but Sin’s computer crashed, and I was deciding which way to turn next. We have a ChoppaHead DVD review from Glen to post and a quick article on Big Bear’s Cop Bike. I know there’s more, but I’m spacing. What was it?

There’s a gang of people in the industry who are waking up to the EPA bullshit, including Chris Maida, Editor of American Iron, Rogue from Bikernet, a longtime freedom fighter, Bret Smith of S&S, and Ted Sands from Performance Machine. The MRF is already involved in addition to several ABATE groups. We’re stormin’ the gates. We’ll keep you posted. I know there’s something else, but I’m going to shift gears and bring you more news Sunday. Hopefully it will come to me by then.

I need to hit the Iron Pile, work out and clear my head for the weekend.

HAWAII BUILDOFF

GREAT HAWAIIAN BIKER BUILD-OFF– On Saturday, 17 December 2005, Pacific Rim Cycle, and The Pasha Group will be host to the 50th State’s largest motorcycle rally to be held at Kapiolani Community College in the heart of Honolulu.

In association with KPOI (“The Big Kahuna”) radio, Hawaii’s premier motorcycle publication (Hawaiian Chopper) will put on “The Great Hawaiian Biker Build-Off”.

Designed as a series of motorcycle related events, which will include a magazine model search, custom motorcycle contest, tattoo contest, biker build-off, and live rock & roll by Big Dog and Analog, the event is sure to excite both bikers and the general public alike.

Beginning with a special appearance by Danny “Count Cool Rider” Koker, Jose De Miguel, and other special guests, the Marines and Sailors of Marine Corps Base Hawaii will see first hand some of the coolest custom choppers on the planet. This will not only be a chance for America’s fighting men and women to hang out with some of their motorcycle building idols, it will allow the builders to say thanks for their sacrifice on behalf of us all.

On Saturday, 17 December at 10:00am, the gates will open for the “Great Hawaiian Biker Build-Off” Rally. Participants will find plenty of parking at the venue, and will be charged a $20.00 entry fee ($15.00 pre-sale) into the festivities.

Those wishing to get their tickets in advance can visit their favorite bike shop. Tix will be on sale at Pacific Rim Cycle, South Seas Harley-Davidson, Cycle City Harley-Davidson, and Grumpy’s Custom Cycles.

To get everyone involved in the day’s activities, fans will enjoy the Hooters/Hawaiian Chopper Magazine bikini model search. Featuring some of Hawaii’s most beautiful women posing on stage for a chance to become a Hawaiian Chopper girl, the winner will also win $500.00 and be featured on the cover of Hawaii’s only biker mag.

Woody’s Chicago Style Hotdogs custom bike contest, and the tattoo contest sponsored by Island Tattoo will allow riders and custom builders to show their prized two-wheeled rides, and their hot tattoo artwork, all in search of a cool trophy to be presented.

A concert featuring two of Hawaii’s top rock & roll acts is, by itself worth the cost of an entry ticket. Classic rock band “Big Dog” will be first up followed by alternative rock band Analog. Both of these groups will delight spectators and fans with their hard driving styles of rock & roll, and will be a great way to cap off the day’s activities.

Oh, and of course, the “Great Hawaiian Biker Build-Off” will give spectators the opportunity to select the winner of the Hawaii’s first Biker Build-Off by casting a vote for their favorite chopper and builder.

In addition to all the festivities planned for the wintertime event, joining us will be celebrated motorcycle builders, Danny “Count Cool Rider” Koker of Counts Kustoms and Jose De Miguel of Caribbean Custom Cycles. These custom builders received international notoriety on Discovery Channel’s “Great Biker Build-Off”, the Speed Channel, and magazines such as, Barnett’s Motorcycle Showcase, The Horse, Street Chopper, Hawaiian Chopper and others. Both of these men are wildly popular characters of the motorcycle genre, and will prove to Islanders that motorcycles are indeed an art form.

Finally, heavy metal rock group Motley Crue has allowed us to feature their own specially built choppers on December 17th, while they entertain Hawaii’s fans at the Neil Blaisdell Center on December 14th.

These are the actual bikes that Motley Crue takes on tour with them. When the band appears onstage at the Blaisdell Arena December 14th, these bikes will not be part of the show, in fact, to see these bikes, you will have to attend “The Great Hawaiian Biker Build-Off”!

If that isn’t enough, Counts Kustoms will be displaying the “Ozzy” bike built for Rocker Ozzy Osborne. This radical custom chopper is world renown for it’s wild design and special tank.

Of course, no event would be complete without great food, drinks, and giveaways, so we will feature the cooking Hooters, Teddy’s Bigger Burgers, and Woody’s hotdogs. Add great drink specials courtesy of Rosa’s Ice Tee, and numerous prizes from companies such as, Avon Tyres, BMC Choppers, Central Coast Cycles, Harley-Davidson, Big Dog, and a host of other industry leading businesses, and we have a world-class motorcycle rally that will be the benchmark for all others held in the future.

Did I mention that Biker Santa will be on hand? Bring a toy and we will ask him to deliver it to a needy keiki (child) via the Marine Corps Reserves.

This December 17th, make KCC your destination for your weekend ride. You will be glad you came?

TIRE SIZE TECH QUESTION TO BIG BOAR– I read an article in your tech area on wide tire fender modifications for a Shovelhead and have some question on rim & tire sizes for my 1976 FXE Shovelhead that my save me some time and money.

Here’s a little info on my build before we get to my questions to give you an idea of what I am trying to do.

I took my stock 1976 FL swing arm and removed all the mounting tabs, (brake anchor, Shock mounts, passenger pegs) except for the chain guard mounts. I drilled 7/8″ holes in the center of the swing arm to accept my new shock mount slugs like you use to do to lower your bike and use the stock 12″ shocks. I removed the brake side rotor flange off my stock 76 rear hub and machined a sprocket spacer so I can mount the Flat Exile combination Sprocket Brake rotor on the right side to replace the dish shaped stock sprocket and clean up the left side. I also removed all the rear FL fender lips and wiring harness mounts to accept the wider tire.

What width of 16″ tire & rim combination can I run with the modified FL fender and still clear the chain 150/160? Also If I decide to use my stock 16x 3.00 rim what is the widest tire I can mount on the rim.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

David Smith
mailto:dbs@midohio.net

Hey,

Here’s what Aaron at Big Boar said. “You need a 4-inch width rim max. If you decided to use the stock rim the biggest tire you could run would be a 150mm . And a 150, not a 160, will clear your chain.

By the way. We answer tech question within 24 hours on Bikernet.com in the It’s Your Shot Area.–Bandit

MIAMI POLICE TAKE NEW TACK ON TERROR–MIAMI — Police are planning “in-your-face” shows of force in public places, saying the random, high-profile security operations will keep terrorists guessing about where officers might be next.

As an example, uniformed and plainclothes officers might surround a bank building unannounced, contact the manager about ways to be vigilant against terrorists and hand out leaflets in three languages to customers and people passing by, said police spokesman Angel Calzadilla. He said there would be no random checks of identification.”People are definitely going to notice it,” Deputy Police Chief Frank Fernandez said Monday. “We want that shock. We want that awe. But at the same time, we don’t want people to feel their rights are being threatened. We need them to be our eyes and ears.”

Howard Simon, executive director of ACLU of Florida, said the Miami initiative appears aimed at ensuring that people’s rights are not violated.

S&S TUNING TIP– S&S 113s like about 28 degrees of total ignition timing. At 3000 rpm, the F mark with the vertical line should be at the very front edge of the timing hole, actually just beyond the front edge.

If you are static timing (engine not running) put the T:F mark at the same position (just disappearing at front edge of hole) and that should get you in the ballpark.

Set advance to be all in around 2500 rpm or so, rev limit about 6200.

We always recommend checking timing with a timing light at speed. Get yourself a long clear view timing plug and put a few extra threads on it (or cut back in a lathe) till it actually touches the flywheel and you should be able to view the mark nicely.

BIKERNET NEWS FLASH -BOOKS AND BOOTS REVIEWED, EPA WARS, NEW PM WHEELS, ROADHOUSE PARTIES, HS PROJECTS AND EMPIRE FRAMES

custom chrome banner

BOBBER MASCOT
Real true bobber from Bob T.

Hey,

An exciting news coming your way. This whole EPA thing is breaking wide open. Our Bonneville effort is flying together with the support of Custom Chrome, Accurate Engineering, Custom Performance and Departure Bike Works. We’ll be launch reports rapidly as they all come together.

I’m a freak about jinxing a deal, so I’m holding my breath until a couple of things come together, then I’ll unleash the word here on another aspect of our Bonneville effort.

There’s so much on my mind, that I better just leave it alone. We’re rolling into the notorious holiday season during a war effort, terrible weather damage and a wicked winter ahead. Don’t let the stress drag you down. Take is slow, warm and calm yourself with Jack Daniels when the need arises. Let’s hit the news:

Black bike

Bikernet Reporter Embedded In EPA

I have someone I know who worked for the EPA for over 25 years and he has agreed to give me some help and ideas about how they work. Here are a couple for starters.

MOTOCYCLES MAKE UP .01% OF VEHICLES. THEIR IMPACT IS NEGLIGABLE AT ANY MEASUREMENT STANDARD. THEY FAILED TO DO AN ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE STUDY ON THE MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRY AND MOTOR CYCLE RIDERS WHO ARE NOT AN ELUSIVE BUNCH. THEY ARE VERY CONSPICUOUS WHEN RIDING DOWN THE HIGHWAY.

FOR THE COMMERCE CLAUSE OF THE CONSTITUTION SAYS THAT ONE CANNOT BLOCK COMMERCE WITHOUT DUE INFUENCE. MOTORCYCLES ARE NOT A DUE INFLUENCE. IF I CAN MAKE A COMPARISON THEY ARE LIKE DINOSAURS, OUT OF SIGHT AND OUT OF MINE TO THE REGULATORS.

WHAT THEY DID TO RESTRICT KITS AND TO INCREASE MOTOR ACCEPTANCE REGARDING POLLUTION DOES NOT EVEN COME TO ONE MILLIMETER ON A ONE MILE RULER AS FAR AS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT IS CONCERNED. IT PROBABLY DID THEM SOME GOOD OR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE SPENT THE TIME AND MONEY TO TAKE IT ALL THE WAY TO A FINAL RULE.

If the EPA Failed To Do One Of The Required Studies It May Null And Void The Regulations. I will try to check into this but sure could use some help. How about passing this on to others that are interested?

2006 PM Image Wheels lo-res2

PERFORMANCE MACHINE MARQUEE, DOMINO AND JUDGE WHEELS FOR 2006–Just when it looked like the wheel market had settled into a safe and repetitive groove, PM comes out with three totally new designs that we can’t wait to see on a bunch of bikes. Machined from a solid aluminum forging, Performance Machine went full on bling with the Marquee. This thing is twenty arced spokes coming from a webbed center to create a wheel that looks like nothing we’ve ever seen before.

The Domino is also a multispoke wheel, but with a clean, open design that would look great on just about anything.

The Judge really caught our eye, too with its five vintage mag style spokes and machined speed dots around the perimeter.

Like all of the PM wheels, they also make a design matched disc, pulley and sprocket for each one of these and are building them in every size imaginable. Contact Performance Machine or your local PM dealer for more information.

BIKERNET HELICOPTER RIDES–Morris and his wife Esther went to the State Fair every year. And everyyear Morris said, “Esther, I’d like to ride in that helicopter.”

Esther always replied, “I know, Morris, but that helicopter ride is fiftydollars. And fifty dollars is fifty dollars.”

One year Esther and Morris went to the fair and Morris said, “Esther, I’m85 years old. If I don’t ride that helicopter today, I might never getanother chance.”

Esther gave her usual reply: “Morris, that helicopter ride is fiftydollars. And fifty dollars is fifty dollars.”

The helicopter pilot overheard this exchange. So he told the couple,”Folks, I’ll make you a deal. I’ll take both of you for a ride. If you canstay quiet for the entire time and not say a word, I won’t charge you. Butif either of you says a single word, it’ll cost you fifty dollars.”

Morris and Esther agreed and so up they went. The pilot did all kinds offancy maneuvers – but not a word was heard. He did all of his dare-deviltricks more than once; still not a word.

When they landed, the pilot said to Morris, “By golly, I did everything Icould to get you two to yell but you didn’t. I’m impressed!”

Morris replied, “Well, I was going to say something when Esther fell out,but fifty dollars is fifty dollars.”

MRF E-MAIL NEWS– MRF Releases EPA For The Layman – Second Revision.EPA officials recently informed the Motorcycle Riders Foundation of a new interpretation of the “Control of Emissions From Highway Motorcycles” document. The latest document contains the new 2006 Emissions Regulations for Highway Motorcycles and the new interpretation includes the effective date of two essential provisions in the document.

We have been notified that the effective date for the “one per lifetime” EPA exempt kit motorcycle and the provision for a shop to build 24 EPA exempt custom motorcycles per year was actually March 15, 2004, not January 1, 2006 as originally verified by EPA.

The “EPA for the Layman” paper on the MRF website has been updated to reflect the EPA?s changes and can be found at http://www.mrf.org/pdf/EPA-for-the-layman-rev2.pdf<<30>>

Trike

NEW TRIKE FROM SANTIAGO CHOPPERS– SANTIAGO CHOPPER, headquartered in Gibsonton, Florida, is constantly developing new bike models. One of the latest projects to go forward to production is a trike kit based on a 1939 Ford. The conversion can be applied to any Softail, from 1984 up to current models.

The kit consists of all the major assemblies including the swingarm and a rear axle and differential unit manufactured exclusively for the conversion. The caliper and rotors for the disc brake assemblies are sourced from Brembo. There is a choice of wheels, including spoked or Chevrolet style for the ‘Old School’ look. In 15 x 9 size and fitted with 265/50 x 15 tires, these are said to give an excellent ride.

The fiberglass bodywork is supplied unpainted and the kit is packaged complete with all instructions and the necessary assembly hardware. A deep-seat rigid version of the trike is also available.

Santiago Chopper is soon to be quoted in the Kelley Blue Book. It has now been recognised as a manufacturer and can issue titles for the bikes it supplies. A new company, Santiago Chopper Distribution, has been set up to handle the distribution of the products and is looking to appoint dealers. Premises have also been established in Melbourne, Australia, to meet the growing demand there

AMD PROSHOW BANNER

BIKERNET SECURITY ADVICE–So a guy is sitting in a bar, when a man with an extremely long duffle bag walks in and sits down next to him.

So he says, “Why do you carry around such a long duffle bag?”

The second guy responds, “Well, I’m a hit man and this is my rifle.” And he pulls out a sniper rifle with an extremely long scope.

So the first guy, intrigued by the intimidating gun, asks if he can look through the scope of the gun, and the hit man agrees.

The guy says, “Wow, I can see my house from here! I can even see my wife from here… And . . . that?s my neighbor in MY house with MY wife!”

The guy, putting down the riffle says to the hitman, “How much do you chargefor a hit?”

The hitman says, “My going rate it $1000 per hit.”

The guy pulls out his wallet and hands the hitman 2000$ and says, “I’d like you to shoot my wife in the head, and my neighbor in the johnson. That should teach them!”

So the hitman picks up the rifle, takes aim, and pauses for several seconds.

The anxious man says, “Why are you waiting?”

So the hitman replies, “Hang on, I think I can save you 1000 bucks.”

Drag pipes

DRAG ADDS TROUBLEMAKERS– ‘TROUBLEMAKER’ exhaust systems from Hooker Headers are now available from Drag.

Hooker claims these are 2-1/2in diameter pipes that really work thanks to the internal stepped design and which should also eliminate blueing. Hooker’s 38 years of exhaust design experience have enabled the company to design a system said to increase top-end horsepower without sacrificing bottom end torque, a common problem with other big bore systems. The pipes feature a metallic ceramic coating on the internal head pipes helping to retain heat and increase exhaust velocity. There are systems for Softails, Dynas and 2005-model Sportsters, with straight-, slash- or scallop-cut ends.

Hooker Headers also offers a choice of baffle cartridges. The standard cartridge is described as a ‘deep rumble’, a popular option for enthusiasts. Alternative cartridges give a smooth, mellow sound or improved flow at the expense of a loud exhaust note. Troublemaker systems are supplied complete with gaskets, C-clips, chromed flanges, machined brackets and detailed instructions.

BIKERNET DATING ADVICE–“Michael, if you were on a date— having supper with a nice young lady, how would you tell her that you have to go to the bathroom?”

Michael said, “Just a minute I have to go pee.”

The teacher responded by saying, “That would be rude and impolite.”

What about you Peter, how would you say it?”

Peter said, “I am sorry, but I really need to go to the bathroom. I’llbe right back.”

“That’s better, but it’s still not very nice to say the word bathroom atthe dinner table.”

“And you, little Johnny, can you use your brain for once and show usyour good manners?”

“I would say: ‘Darling, may I please be excused for a moment? I have toshake hands with a very dear friend of mine, whom I hope you’ll get tomeet after supper.”

The teacher fainted

WILD THANKSGIVING–I’ve fixed my leaky Shovelhead tank for the third time. It’s back. We’ll install a new CCI petcock and go for a ride. Maybe there’s still a football game before the turkey’s finished.

Have a helluva day and be thankful, goddamnit.

Ride Forever,
