Ah, but the show must roll on, so while I down Kaopectate and have the shakes, here’s the friggin’ news:

FLORIDA EVENT CHANGES–
First, we hope everyone has fared the storm well, without any major personal or material damage.
As you all know, South Florida was hit pretty hard by hurricane Wilma, affecting everyone?s personal and business lives, most specially in Broward and Miami-Dade county.
Upon evaluation of the situation after hurricane Wilma and considering that for the next three weeks, the majority of the population in South Florida will be deeply concerned about getting their lives back to normal (over 1.5 million without power, shortage of gas, banks closed and 90% of retail business still closed), we have decided for postponing our 2005 show.
After checking the show calendar for conflicting bike shows, other local or regional events and available dates at the convention center, we have decided for
APRIL 01 & 02, 2006.
No one was more anxious and interested in keeping the original date for the show than ourselves. However, just like us, you are making an investment in the show and we want you to get the results you expect from it. We don?t want to perform the show just for the purpose of fulfilling a commitment and not have a successful event for you and for our company.
Here is some info we consider important to you:
New Dates: Show Dates: April 01 & 02, 2006
Move in: March 31
Move out: April 02
Location : Remains the same ? Broward County Convention Center.Floor plan layout: Remains the same.Celebrities: We are confirming with the contracted celebrities to make sure their schedule is open for the new date. AUSTRALIAN COFFEE CONNECTION–An Australian man was having coffee and croissants with butter and jam in a cafe, when an American tourist, chewing gum, sat down next to him.The Australian politely ignored the American, who, nevertheless started up a conversation.
The American snapped his gum and said, “You Australian folk eat the whole bread?”
The Australian frowned, annoyed with being bothered during his breakfast, and replied, “Of course”.
The American blew a huge bubble. ” We don’t. In the states we only eat whats inside. The crusts we collect in a container, recycle them, transform then into croissants, and sell them to Australia.”
The American had a smirk on his face. The Australian listened in silence.
The American persisted. “D’ya eat jam with the bread?”
Sighing, the Australian replied, “Of course”.
Cracking his gum between his teeth, the American said, “We don’t. In the states we eat fresh fruit for breakfast, then we put all the peels, seeds, and leftovers in containers, recycle them, transform them into jam and sell it to Australia.”
The Australian then asked, “Do you have sex in the States?”
The American smiled and said, “Why, of course we do.” The Australian leaned closer to him and asked, “and what do you do with the condoms once you’ve used them?”
“We throw them away, of course”
Now it was the Australian’s turn to smile. “We don’t. In Australia, we put them in a container, recycle them, melt them down into chewing gum and sell them to the United States.
Why do you think its called Wrigley’s?”

BANDIT SURVIVES MEXICO-BARELY–You only go around once in life. Sometimes you need to take the bull by the horns and go for it. I don’t watch NASCAR, stock car racing or cars with 10-foot diameter tires run over compacts. I’m a biker. But when a brother invited me to help with his effort to enter the most dangerous road race on earth, from one end of Mexico to the other, I couldn’t turn him down. We rode to Sturgis several times and hung out for almost 20 years. Besides he’s Dr. Hamster. So I said sure.
We hauled ass over 6000 miles in the last two weeks. Some 2000 of it was from the bottom of Mexico to the Laredo border, the most dangerous car race on earth. Sixty cars entered the La Carrera Panamericana race and 36 survived to finish. We came in 2nd in our class, Original PanAm. Get this. We were the only 2-man team to drive to the race, endure the race and drive home. You know, run what ya brung. We raced through the hills of Mexico passed throngs of people and screamin’ kids (second largest spectator sport in Mexico) with our bags in the back, packin’ our own tools, while all the other teams had race crews and back-up trucks and trailers.

ONLY TWO WEEKS TO GO-VEGAS IS COMING– Suddenly it’s November and we have just two more weeks to go before Advanstar’s Big Twin West and our own second annual Official World Championship Of Custom Bike Building open for business at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
The World Championship has now passed the 100 competitor mark (105 as this is written), and competitors will be traveling to Las Vegas from more than twenty states and ten countries internationally. They will be showing nearly 170 bikes in total, and while everyone of them will be hoping they can carry off the prestigious title of World Champion for 2005, from the contacts we are having with them it is also perfectly clear that above all they are looking forward to what should be an unprecedented opportunity to meet industry colleagues and vendors. And maybe have a little fun along the way too!
On average the World Championship competitors will be spending some $5,000 of their own hard earned cash on getting to the event with their bike(s), and this marks an unprecedented investment into a Dealer Show and bike competition. We here at AMD are very grateful for the backing the ‘Builder Community’ is demonstrating for our endeavors, and are pulling out all possible stops to help ensure that they get maximum long-term benefit from their involvement.
As are the exhibitors who will be taking part in Big Twin West and the Custom Chrome Dealer Show. Everybody knows that the market has slowed down in the second half of this year, so not only does their involvement in the show reflect well on their determination to nonetheless invest in finding customers at a time when the cash cycle of the market is always at its slowest anyway, but also in their belief that the old suspicions surrounding West Coast/South West dealer events in general, and shows staged in the Fall in particular, are no longer relevant in the changed buying environment that the custom v-twin industry now enjoys.
There is much to look forward to at the event; and if you have not yet made up your mind to come and take a look, we here at AMD hope you will. The event has evolved into a ‘triple whammy’ of industry activity. Advanstar, the organizers of Big Twin West, are generously putting up some $50,000 of cash prizes for the World Championship, in addition to covering the costs of actually staging the competition; Custom Chrome are holding their annual Dealer Show at the same time, with exclusive vendor/dealer hours and show access the day before the event opens to the rest of the industry; and record numbers of exhibitors have bought booth space at Big Twin West.
Above all though it is the dealers who will be attending, and the competitors who are entering the World Championship, that will make this event the success it ‘feels’ like it is headed for. So, in advance of the show taking place, and we ourselves here at AMD having to head off in all sorts of directions as ‘multiple-show-syndrome’ strikes us before we are able to assemble in Las Vegas, it is timely to thank them in advance for planning to make the journey, and to say that everybody involved in the event looks forward to making them welcome.
If you haven’t already done so, you can register on-line to visit Big Twin West at http://www.bigtwinwest.com

DEADWOOD HANGIN’ CASE- – A civil trial in a case involving the ill-fated 2004 Sturgis Music Festival will begin as scheduled, according to court documents released this week. The case of TDG Communications v. Sturgis 2004 will commence with a motions hearing on Thursday, Nov. 3. A jury trial is scheduled for Nov. 7 and 8 in 4th Circuit Court, Lawrence County. Earlier this year TDG Communications sued Sturgis 2004, a Mississippi based company for services TDG provided to promote the Sturgis Music Festival. The company is suing for $48,000 in fees that were unpaid when the venture went sour in the middle of the 2004 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. TDG is also seeking punitive damages in the case, alleging that Rose never intended to pay them.Along with TDG’s claim, the suit also includes a claim by Ericka Hansen and Paul Barrow, of Kickstand Productions, Las Vegas. Hansen and Barrow, former partners with Rose, are alleging that Rose acted without authority when he pulled out of the Sturgis Music Festival taking an estimated $500,000 to $700,000 in revenue with him. –The Black Hills Pioneer –from Rogue MBA HOLDINGS ACQUIRES THUNDER RIDERS MAGAZINE– SCOTTSDALE, AZ — (MARKET WIRE) — 11/01/2005 — MBA Holdings, Inc. A blonde lady walked by and asked what they were doing. “We’re supposed to find the height of the flagpole,” said Bubba, “but we don’t have a ladder.” The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a few bolts, and laid the pole down. Then she took a tape measure from her pocket, took a measurement and announced, “Eighteen feet, six inches,” and walked away. Junior shook his head and laughed. “Ain’t that just like a dumb blonde? We ask for the height, and she gives us the length.” –from Buckshot THIS WEEK’S MOTORCYCLE ART– check out this lil’ project I’m working on this is the Motorcycle Femme Fatales, 4 working girls in the industry; Me, Joann, Goth and Sam Morgan Storm. On site at the all new Destination Daytona, Lane led his Blood Sweat & Gears builders through an amazing build with an incredibly emotional outcome. In front of thousands, Lane along with Kendall Johnson, Paul Cox, Aaron Greene and Mondo Lane worked on a bike in memory of fallen soldier Brandon Sapp. Brandon’s family was present throughout the build. John Sapp, Brandon’s dad along with his brothers and sisters watched as the bike came to life. Guest builder Jerry Covington joined Lane on stage to complete the bike too. Legendary painter Jon Kosmoski, founder of House of Kolor, agreed to paint the sheet metal. Jon received the sheet metal at the eleventh hour and began creating the paint that would memorialize Brandon on the bike. “When Billy suggested desert camouflage as part of the paint scheme, I thought, sure, that will be no problem. I soon realized how wrong I was. Camo is tough, it took me over six hours alone to tape the pattern off. When we finished the tank with Brandon’s image on it, I knew we had really done something great.” explained Kosmoski. Brandon’s father John Sapp agreed on stage Friday when Jon Kosmoski presented the finished sheet metal to him and Billy. “John, I want you to know that Brandon was with me the whole time. Each coat of clear I applied, he watched and followed me around the room. I feel like he approves too” Kosmoski told Sapp on stage. The entire Sapp family was speechless when the tank was unveiled. Lane added, “House of Kolor and Kosmoski are the very best, we needed the best for this bike, Brandon earned it”. Brandon Sapp joined the Army to add focus to his life. While serving in Iraq Brandon was killed at twenty one. He was driving a Bradley on a mission. During the mission it was said that he had a feeling about the route they were taking, he suggested they change routes at the last minute. His intuition pushed him to veer right. His quick thinking allowed nine other soldiers to come home alive. Brandon did not. He was killed instantly when a roadside bomb deployed beneath him in the Bradley. While serving, Brandon made a great friend, Timothy McClellan. “Mac” as he is called, is originally from Minnesota. Mac was invited by Billy to attend Biketoberfest and help him honor Brandon. Billy asked Mac to re-present the Red Cross Real Heroes Award to John Sapp in memory of Brandon. Mac agreed and drove to Daytona from Ft. Hood in Texas. With the bike build complete late in the day Saturday, Billy asked the builders to join him and the Sapp family to watch a video Lane had created to honor Brandon. The video played to hushed crowds and many, many tears. Brandon became everyone’s son at this moment. Billy asked attendees to please remember what these guys and gals are doing for us. Dying for our freedom. Billy started the bike and Paul Cox took the newly installed TP Engine through the gears during a crowd pleasing burn out on stage. Following the burn out, Billy presented the bike to Brandon’s dad John and asked him what he was going to do with it? Weeping, John stepped back and asked Mac what he thought of the bike. Mac sat on it with Brandon’s little brother Harry and said, “I love it and so would Brandon. This is all he ever talked about. His dream was to ride to Daytona with you on a custom bike. His dad sent him Easyriders magazines every month. He shared them with all of us.” With that said John stepped back and told Mac to take the bike and ride with Brandon forever. The crowd fell silent then audience members lined up to shake John’s hand and thank him for his sacrifice. The moment was unbelievable and powerful. The bikes built during the Tour are built for one purpose_ to thank military personnel serving to protect our freedom. Billy and the Blood Sweat & Gears Tour fabricate LIVE in your face throughout major rallies across the country. The Blood Sweat & Gears Tour is proudly supported by Dodge, Activision and House of Kolor. More support comes from Paisano Publications, Miller Welding, Chrome Hardware Supply, The Horse and Choppers Inc. For the Biketoberfest build, Billy leaned on TP Engineering for the 114ci engine used in the bike and Custom Chrome for lots of parts to get the bike running in time. In addition to Billy Lane, other great builders make this Tour a reality. They are Kendall Johnson, Aaron Greene, Paul Cox and Mondo each of whom is a regular builder featured on the Tour. “I can’t do this on my own” said Lane. “Without the support of the Blood Sweat & Gears sponsors like Dodge, Activision, House of Kolor, Bikernet.com and Paisano Publications and the guys that make it happen on stage, the Tour wouldn’t happen.” Lane summarized. “It is our greatest desire to keep this positive momentum rolling into 2006 and beyond. We really want to be able to give away more custom bikes. In order to do this, we are lining up sponsors for 2006 right now. We’ve had tremendous support so far, but need more folks interested in showing their support through Blood Sweat & Gears so we can keep delivering the goods.” added Darcy Betlach, Tour Manager. For Blood Sweat & Gears Tour sponsorship information, please contact Chrome Marketing Inc at 952-470-4297. Saxon Motorcycle Launches The All New Ultra-Wide 300 Tire Griffin Model–CASA GRANDE, ARIZ – Sept. XX, 2005 – Saxon Motorcycle Company today introduced its all new Griffin model, one of the first manufactured motorcycles with the 300 mm rear tire. The model features ultra modern design elements and components. “The Griffin represents a motorcycle design that is truly on the cutting edge as far as technology and styling,” said David Schwam, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “By manufacturing a motorcycle with a 300 mm rear tire we are able to offer a radical semi-custom bike to the general public at an affordable price.” The Griffin has several features you would expect to see on a full custom motorcycle and with a base price of just $25,995, it can’t be beat. The frame is a single down tube right side drive frame and is coupled with a 6 speed transmission. The 45 degrees of overall rake, 6″ stretch in the down tube and 2″ stretch in the backbone make this a bike that will handle superbly. “We want to keep on the cutting edge of the industry and offer new models to keep up with the demand for something different. With the advent of the 300 mm tire, we wanted to find an appropriate platform that could show Saxon as an industry leader in innovation, performance and affordability,” said Schwam. With the launch of the Griffin, Saxon is rounding out its existing model line with a third chopper, which has a unique design and appeal. “The Griffin is a great complement to the Warlord, Firestorm, Sceptre and Black Crown. It allows us to go after the customer who wants the styling of a semi-custom super wide tire motorcycle while offering them the reliability, performance and value that Saxon is known for.” said Schwam. The Griffin will be available in Saxon Dealerships nationwide starting in late October, with its MSRP anticipated to start at $25,995. Highlights of the Griffin include: IT’S OFF TO TEXAS AGAIN–Goddamnit I just came from there and a Texas steakhouse got the best of me. They’re smuggling veggies from across the border. I know it. FLORIDA STATS SHOW HELMETLESS RIDERS LESS LIKELY TO DIE Not only do recently released injury and fatality statistics for 2004 in the state of Florida dispel predictions of a blood bath following repeal of that state’s helmet law, but reveal that motorcyclists wearing helmets were more likely to sustain an injury or suffer a fatality than their non-helmeted counterparts.
According to the recently released, Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles annual Traffic Crash Statistics Report for 2004, of the 388 motorcycle riders killed in crashes on Florida roads last year, over 51% were wearing helmets. The crash facts also demonstrate that riders wearing helmets were more likely to sustain injuries than non-helmeted riders.
In each of the statistical focus topics presented in the study, the percentage numbers were very close between helmeted and non- helmeted riders, except for non-injury crashes. The study stated that non- helmeted riders were 20% more likely to walk away from a crash without injuries than riders who were wearing helmets.
The huge increase in death and injury to non-helmeted motorcycle riders, predicted by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration) in a report released this summer, has not been substantiated, and in fact was disproved.
“The numbers are going to disappoint the proponents of helmet laws while simultaneously confirming the facts presented to the public by ABATE of Florida, Inc.,” stated James “Doc” Reichenbach, President of ABATE of Florida, Inc., who’s group lobbied strongly for motorcycle helmet reform in 2000. “ABATE of Florida has spent years focusing on motorcycle related safety issues, including crash prevention and stiffer penalties for negligent vehicle operators who kill and injure motorcycle riders.”
ABATE of Florida, Inc. is spreading the word about motorcycle safety and awareness through high school drivers education programs, posters, flyers, the presentation of a free Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program, along with a series of annual safety seminars for the motorcycle riding and non-riding public.
In conjunction with the Florida legislature, ABATE is putting Billboards throughout the state to encourage drivers to be aware of motorcycles and to drive alertly.
Reichenbach, who also serves as Chairman of the Board for the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM), added that “The numbers from the crash report for 2004 may favor our point of view, but even one death is too many.”
HELMET LAW HURTS ITALIAN SCOOTER MAKER Aprilia, the Italian motorcycle conglomerate that also owns Moto Guzzi and Laverda, has been hurt financially in recent years by a combination of factors and is negotiating with several banks to try to avoid defaulting on its debt, according to Italian news media.
One contributing factor is that scooter sales in Italy, the company’s primary market, have fallen off since 2001 when a new law passed requiring scooter riders to wear helmets.
Aprilia sold fewer than 2,000 motorcycles in the United States in 2003, accounting for less than 0.25% of the U.S. motorcycle market. European sales are far more critical to the company’s financial health than its relatively small U.S. operation.Meanwhile, Ducati recently announced it is preparing to make an offer to buy Moto Guzzi from Aprilia, which purchased the Moto Guzzi brand in 2001 by outbidding Ducati.
MANDATORY RE-TRAINING FOR ALL RIDERS? In an address to the Fifth International Motorcycle Conference, the President of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Tim Buche called for a “safety renewal” program, which essentially would involve ongoing rider training for all motorcycle riders.
During his presentation to the Conference, held in Munich, Germany in conjunction with the Intermot Show, Buche addressed the fact that most research has shown little benefit from the current U.S. rider-training formula, which essentially calls for a single, basic training course.
Although such training, which is mandatory in some states for younger riders, appears to have an initial benefit lasting perhaps six months for new riders, it doesn’t have any measurable benefits in longer terms. Buche announced new research that looks at more parameters and will focus in particular on repetitive training, where a rider would follow up his initial training with additional courses tailored for those with more experience and skills. The MSF news release about the presentation notes that a possible federal motorcycle-safety study might also shed light on the topic.
SOME USEFUL MOTORCYCLE STATISTICS:Of the over 6.5 million motorcycles registered in the United States, 282,389 were used for primary transportation.Of the 129 million US commuters, 147,703 rode motorcycles to work regularly.More than 20 million Americans surveyed in 2003 said they had ridden within the previous year. (Off-road riding accounted for a third of that figure.)3 to 5 motorcycles fit in one automobile parking space.Motorcycles get 50.1 m.p.g. on average, passenger cars 22.3 m.p.g., light trucks/SUVs 17.7 m.p.g.Sources: Ridetowork.com, Motorcycle Industry Council
SOME MORE USEFUL STATISTICS:DOCTORS: (A) There are 700,000 physicians in the U.S. (B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians total 120,000 per year. (C) Accidental death percentage per physician is 0.171.MOTORCYCLES: (A) There are over 6 million motorcycles registered in the U.S. (B) There were 4,008 motorcyclist fatalities in 2004. (C) The percentage of accidental deaths per motorcycle is 0.000668.Statistically, then, doctors are 256 times more dangerous to the public health than motorcycles. Fact: LESS THAN 2 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION OWNS A MOTORCYCLE, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
CHINA LEADING THE WAY IN MOTORCYCLE SALES When most Americans think of motorcycle imports, they think of the Japanese brands Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki – the “Big Four”. But in fact, according to Business Wire, China has dominated the world’s production of motorcycles since 1994, churning out 14 million motorcycles in 2003. Exports surged from more than 3.4 million units (US$650 million) in 2002 to almost 9 million motorcycles (US$1.45 billion) last year–a phenomenal increase of 123 percent in value, and representing 48% of the global output. This is astounding growth even for an industry that has shown consistent strength.
Chinese motorcycles and associated products are now exported to some 200 countries, many of them in the developing regions of Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa, and developed countries in the Middle East. Sales to the favored U.S. and European markets are also increasing.
MOTORCYCLES DAMAGE HEARING When the band Steppenwolf sang of heavy metal thunder in “Born to be Wild,” their classic ode to the freewheeling biker lifestyle, they equated rocking out to the new electric music of their time with the ear-pounding experience of riding a motorcycle. The notion that loud music can damage hearing is common knowledge, but the noise produced by motorcycles can pose similar risk to riders, University of Florida hearing experts’ caution.
In an informal survey of 33 motorcycles, UF audiologists at the College of Public Health and Health Professions have found nearly half produced sounds above 100 decibels when throttled up — equivalent in intensity to a loud rock concert or a chainsaw.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health cautions that exposure to noise at 100 decibels is safe for only 15 minutes. Permanent hearing loss can occur with prolonged exposure to any noise measuring 85 decibels or above. Although noise-induced hearing loss is permanent, it is preventable.
Although motorcycle helmets don’t provide any significant protection against noise, inexpensive foam earplugs, available at drug stores, can reduce sound levels by 20 decibels to 25 decibels.
Riders should pay attention to the warning signs of noise-induced hearing loss: a ringing sound in the ears immediately after exposure, and hearing voices and other sounds as muffled.
HELLO? Giving birth to a new catch phrase: “Hang up and RIDE!”, motorcyclists can join the cell phone rage now that there’s a new audio headset designed to fit under their helmets while they rumble down the road.
The “scala-rider” from Cardo Systems (www.cardowireless.com) is a Bluetooth headset that includes a wind-resistant microphone that provides clear audio for listening and talking while riding at speeds of up to 75 mph. The scala-rider also allows users to accept or reject incoming calls without letting go of the handlebars, by using voice controls.
WEIRD NEWS: Helmet Saves Rider From Lightening Strike. A Texas man is recovering from an accident in Colorado after being hit in the head by lightening. A gold chain and crucifix melted around his neck and burned a rope pattern in his skin when a lightning bolt struck Jason Crawford in the head while he and his brother were riding dirt bikes in Gunnison County, Colorado.
The bolt melted part of his helmet, fractured his skull and left burn scars on his chest and left arm. Still, Crawford knows it could have been worse. Doctors told him if he hadn’t had his helmet on, he would have died. Even with the helmet, it took 30 stitches to close a wound in his head caused by the freak lighting strike.
Jason Crawford, 31, and his brother John, 36, from Houston, Texas, were riding dirt bikes in Taylor Park recently when the bolt came out of the blue. Jason said they were on Italian Creek Pass when it started sprinkling and the bolt came without warning. John told the Grand Junction Sentinel that the lightning strike caused Jason to do a back flip off his motorbike and twist in the air before he landed on the ground, unable to move.
John said he didn’t know what to do and started screaming for help. Incredibly, a U.S. Forest Service ranger was nearby, heard the yells and came to their aid. He quickly used his two-way radio to call for an ambulance. Then several other dirt-bikers rode up and one was a doctor who checked out Jason’s vital signs. Luckily, his heart hadn’t stopped beating and Jason finally managed to talk. His first words after the accident were, “Don’t let me die.”
He was airlifted to a hospital in Grand Junction where he was treated and released a few days later, but doctors still don’t know the extent of the damage, due to scar tissue and unhealed injuries. He still can’t hear in one ear.
His brother, John, said it was a fluke that the lightning hit.
“What are the chances of being struck by lightning on a moving bike,” John told the Sentinel. “You can’t prepare for that.”
TASMANIAN BIKERS LOBBY AGAINST MOTORCYCLE LEVY Bikers in Tasmania, Australia successfully lobbied against a proposed $15-a-year levy to motorcycle licenses to fund a government sponsored safety campaign. The State Government’s controversial push to introduce the levy on motorcyclists to fund a safety program failed in the Legislative Council, due largely to objections raised by the motorcycle community.
Nine Independent MLCs voted against the legislation that they argued discriminated against motorcyclists and would set a dangerous user-pays precedent to the State. The Tasmanian Motorcycle Council led a strong lobby against the proposed law and said that motorcyclists should not have to pay for the strategy’s administration, arguing that it was inappropriate that $405,000 of levy funds would go to cover administrative costs.
The leader of the Government in the Upper House, Michael Aird, said that the Tasmanian Motorcycle Safety Strategy 2005-06 would now have to be abandoned.
Tasmanian Greens infrastructure spokesman Kim Booth congratulated the motorcycle council on its demand for equality in road safety training.”The responsibility is now back on the Labor Government to ensure that the necessary road safety training is still made available,” he said.State Opposition leader Rene Hidding said that the defeat of the bill showed the Government had failed to adequately consult the motorcycle community.

STEALTH REPORT–The air has a hint of fall in it around here and the temps are cool but there is still some good riding weather left. The toy runs are coming up and we attended one last weekend. Where did the summer go?
Here at STEALTH BIKE WORKS we have a rolling chassis for the 71 shovel project. The project is being built on a Santee wishbone frame, stock rake, no stretch. A Dave Mann centerfold style bike.We may have a couple more projects coming in soon. You never know but that is what makes this a great adventure, the unknown! One thing for sure is that things change real quick. It is just another roll of the dice!
Even though it is the fall season it seems our schedule is full. This Saturday we are headed to “The Gentlemen’s Club” annual “BikeBOOBerfest” bike show. This is one of the top bike shows in the Charlotte area. A couple of weeks down the road the CBA hold their annual fall bike show and swap meet.
We will have a booth set up there. One thing about trying to run a shop and keep it going is that you seem to never have enough time, but that is a good thing. Sometimes you just have to take a few minutes for yourself, to go for a ride and clear your head.
On a personal note “The Meanest” became a grandma this past weekend and I guess I became a step grandpa, boy that sounds strange? Alex was born Sunday Oct. 23rd. Mom and baby are doing fine. One last thing to add to the list of things going on, we sold our house and are moving into another house Nov. 7th. Did I mention that there never seems to be enough time?
That is it for now. I am running out of time!
Until next week, RIDE!

Metric Thunder Introduces the Thunder Saddle– Orange, California, October 25, 2005 – MetricThunder.com has launched a new seat for the Metric and Harley cruisers called, Thunder Saddle. The Thunder Saddle is available in a leather or vinyl flame seat and is designed for continual comfort during long rides. So whether the trip is for 500 miles or just around the block, every mile feels the same on the saddle.
“We worked closely with Saddlemen and designed a saddle with SaddleGel? which offers a comfortable ride mile after mile. We also enhanced the look of the seat with a flame theme that our riders really enjoy,” said Bob Osias, President of Metric Thunder.
Nothing can compare to a saddle made with SaddleGel?. SaddleGel? provides unsurpassed riding comfort by evenly distributing the body weight across the surface of the seat while absorbing and eliminating the extra pressure typically experienced at the hip bones and tail bone.
The Thunder Saddle comes with a colored flame stitch on the saddle and a stitched Metric Thunder logo on the back. Each saddle is available with numerous options including conchos, studs, side skirt and SaddleGel.
The Thunder/Saddlemen cruiser seat helped Metric Thunder bring back the gold in the Roadbike Magazine’s metric motorcycle contest in 2004 and 2005.

Bad Shit Happens–when Bandit travels, or maybe I just have a harder time dealing with normal shit, so it seems like bad shit. I dunno, but yesterday I was feeling like a rain cloud was hanging over me. Sitting in my daughters school office with a sour face like I?m the only one in the world with problems; kid and otherwise, when in walks a friend I haven?t seen in months. She had an emergency C-section 8 days ago, the baby is still in the hospital and she had to go to the school because of two troublesome teenagers. She and her husband run their own business, so she can?t even take any time off. By the time I was finished talking to her, I felt like a real dipshit for ever feeling sorry for myself, for my so called problems. I do not have problems. I told myself, ?I?ll never complain again?.
So, today is a new day and I?ve faced it with patience and strength. Speaking of patience and strength, Bandit is at the end of the La Carrera Panamericana and has endured almost two-weeks of challenges. Cars burning and crashing around them, but every night I get a call that they made it safely. Last night he said they came in third in their class for the fourth day in a row. Quite an accomplishment you would think, but I should mention there are only three cars left in his class?
Regardless, he?s a winner in my book, and I can?t wait for that winner to get his ass home. Like you can?t wait for me to get my ass in gear and do the news? here you go.

The Bikers Were In Florida Just not in Daytona and especially Main Street– FLORIDA:Low turnout marks bike festivalOrlando Sentinel, FL – DAYTONA BEACH — Under a red-and-white tent, one stall over from the beer-tub girls hawking cans of Bud Light, street vendors were still hollering for bikers to stop and eat Sunday along Main Street.”A pound of beef! A lump of bread! And all the mustard you can eat!” a cook at Big Ed’s grill shouted against the rumble of passing bikes. “Dig in! Dig in!”Like most merchants selling to the leather-happy crowd during this fall’s annual rite of Biketoberfest, which ended Sunday, cook Tom Barry said business was off.”Yeah, they’ve been eating. But not enough,” Barry said, hoarse and slightly sleep-deprived.Hoteliers, patch-makers, leather vendors, police — most agreed that the four-day event, which normally packs an estimated 100,000 bikers handlebar-to-handlebar along its main drag, ran thin this year. They blamed the specter of Hurricane Wilma for last-minute room cancellations, and they blamed the tighter wallets on the fallout from hurricanes Rita and Katrina, the economy, the war and high gas prices.
Optimism for a strong turnout ran high leading up the event because Biketoberfest has fared well in past years despite whatever else was going on — even after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.”Usually on Saturday, you can’t see the sidewalk,” said Tammy Harbstreit, owner of Tammy’s Stitchin Hole. “This year there were lulls, and no one was carrying shopping bags. It’s been a rough year.”Plenty of bikers come from the Midwest and New England to get a last breath of summer before returning to a winter of sub-freezing weather, but some merchants even blamed what they called unseasonably balmy weather for slow sales.”It was so warm people didn’t even want to try the leather on,” said Jack Schutte, owner of Divine Leather, which has three locations on Main and Beach streets. “We’ll be lucky to cover expenses.”
Cruising the back roads with his girlfriend, hitting hangouts from the Cabbage Patch to the Broken Spoke to the newly opened Destination Daytona, biker Tom Probst of Youngstown, Ohio, said there just weren’t as many people as in previous years.”It was light everywhere,” the 49-year-old maintenance man said. “Even traffic wasn’t too bad.”Daytona police also said there were fewer bikers and little congestion on area roads. Officers handled just two motorcycle accidents with severe injuries and no fatalities, said Daytona Beach police spokesman Al Tolley. But in Osteen, on the first morning of Biketoberfest, four bikers died in a crash on State Road 415, a rural two-lane road.
And in Port Orange on Saturday night, a man driving a sport utility vehicle veered off southbound U.S. 1, crashing into 17 parked motorcycles and a small crowd of bikers talking in front of the Last Resort bar. Five people were hurt, with injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to broken arms and legs. Three people were transported to hospitals.Cmdr. Bill Schulz, a Port Orange police spokesman who responded to the accident around 10:40 p.m., said, “Everyone was keeping it together. They were pretty calm. I was surprised because there were some pretty beautiful bikes that were probably totaled.”Brandon Crotts, 28, of Sophia, N.C., the driver of the white Ford Bronco, was charged with driving under the influence, property damage and possession of cocaine and marijuana, police said.Despite the death toll and the thinner crowds, bikers and merchants were mostly upbeat about the event and said they would be back next year.Ralph Banzhof, a 40-year-old cabinet maker from Daytona Beach, was sitting on his 2003 Harley-Davidson on Main Street, putting off leaving.”I should be home working on my bike, but I’m parked here hanging out,” he said. “Didn’t want to go home yet.”
At the Shoreline Inn over on South Atlantic Avenue, hotel staff was already preparing for the next crowd coming into town. As bikers checked out, staff was readying rooms for evacuees of Hurricane Wilma heading north.”We already have some on their way up from Melbourne,” said Suzy Cohen, the evening front-desk clerk.—-

LOW CURRENT DRAW/HIGH CURRENT OUTPUT–Large displacement V-Twin engines, Fuel Injection, and Overdrive Transmissions all create problems in engine starting and battery charging. The Compu-Fire 3+3 program has the solution with the Gen 3 Starter and 3Phase Charging Systems. The Gen 3 Starter cranks at 2KW while only consuming 175 Amps from the battery. The 6:1 ratio planetary gear reduction and permanent magnet field design cranks big engines even without compression releases. The 40 Amp 3Phase Charging System produces 25 Amps at an idle and 40 Amps at 2800 RPM. The vented rotor and series voltage regulator keep the battery fully charged even on short rides or cruising at low engine RPM.
Suggested retail price:
Gen 3 Starter is $599.95
3Phase Charging $399.95

STEEL PONY EXPRESS VIII RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 26-29, 2006–We would like to reiterate what we posted on this website on Tuesday, October 4, as we have received some questions about the Rally. Due to the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the Gulf Coast Area, we have rescheduled Steel Pony Express VIII for October 26-29, 2006. There has been some confusion regarding conflicting print advertisements for the dates of Steel Pony Express VIII. Print ads are created 6-8 weeks prior to publication and this forces us to submit information to these publications months in advance. At the time these ads were submitted, we thought we were going ahead with Steel Pony Express VIII for October of 2005. We apologize for the confusion generated by these ads and strive to give our attendees the most up to date information about the Rally and other Scooter Promotions Events.
We are back in the office working reduced hours due to the lack of internet and normal business services in the city. Our office did sustain some water damage and we are still attempting to clean and put it back to normal after our hurried evacuation. We are also planning some new and exciting events for 2006 in addition to Steel Pony Express VIII. Check this website for updates and information about these new events!

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU DO BUSINESS WITH–GALESBURG – A meeting between police and the Knox County state’s attorney will determine if motorcycle builder Chip Miyler will face criminal charges for allegedly collecting money from customers just before going bankrupt.
Galesburg Police Department Investigator Thomas LaFollette said Friday he will meet with State’s Attorney Paul Mangieri on Tuesday to discuss the 18 complaints he has received from customers of the now bankrupt Mid-West Choppers, which Miyler owned with his wife, Chrissy.
Customers have told police Miyler asked for large sums of money to finish their $25,000 to $60,000 motorcycles just before filing bankruptcy.
The couple filed bankruptcy on the 5-year-old business Oct. 14 then filed for personal bankruptcy the next day.
LaFollette said he expects to get at least eight more complaints from customers who paid for the custom motorcycles, which recently brought Miyler’s shop national attention.
Ted Sjurseth, founder of America’s 9-11 Foundation, based in Virginia, visited Galesburg on Friday to find out if he will ever see the $30,000 he said he paid Miyler to build a Sept. 11-themed motorcycle the charity planned to auction next year.
“We think we lost it,” Sjurseth said of the money. “We’re an unsecured creditor.”
Miyler built Sjurseth a Sept. 11-themed motorcycle that was auctioned off in August. After seeing the success of the last one, Sjurseth commissioned another that was scheduled to be done by Thanksgiving, he said.
The $30,000 check was given to Miyler on Sept. 13 and was deposited two days later, said Sjurseth, who feels Miyler had no intention of ever building the bike because parts hadn’t been ordered.
But three former Mid-West employees plan to build the motorcycle themselves and start their own custom motorcycle shop by the spring.
Doug Niles, former Mid-West Choppers sales associate, has decided to go into the custom motorcycle business with two other former employees.
Speed Street Custom Cycles will be located at Tompkins and Kellogg streets, where the three plan to build choppers and pro-street motorcycles.
“At this point, our main concern is to get (the 9-11 bike) done,” said Niles, who wants to distance himself from the controversy surrounding Mid-West Choppers.
Sjurseth met Friday with Niles in Galesburg to discuss the new Dec. 15 deadline for the bike and then met with an attorney in Monmouth hired by the foundation.
And while it’s still unclear if Sjurseth will recoup his $30,000, he said he is confident in the new team of builders.
“These guys wanted to turn a wrong into a right,” he said.

ANOTHER PRO TUNING CENTER EMERGES–LA CROSSE , WI (October 18, 2005) – S&S Cycle is proud to announce the opening of the third Pro Tuning Center in the United States . Technicians from Hal’s Speed Shop in New Berlin , Wisconsin , completed their week long training sessions on Variable Fuel Injection and Super Sidewinder service to earn the certification.Pro Tuning Center certification is achieved when two or more VFI and Sidewinder qualified technicians are on staff at a given S&S dealer–equipped with the proper tools and dynamometer in order to become certified. These courses give students the ins-and-outs of performance, oiling systems, carburetors, exhaust and tuning on S&S engines and Harley-Davidson engines modified with S&S components. All of the tuning and performance verification is done on SuperFlow dynamometers and the technicians utilize a complete shop full of MAC Tools during their training.
“The very first thought I had as the training started was that even though this is a world-class training facility, it really has a relaxed atmosphere,” Said Rob Schopf, Performance Manager at Hal’s Speed Shop. “I like how the shop is set up to make a technician feel at home and more in his element, even though it is really a classroom-it makes learning easier when you are comfortable.”
Tom Fritz, a Technician at Hal’s Speed Shop said, “This is a great facility-just what a company like S&S should have. Everything you need is right at your fingertips, and I really had a great time with the hands-on tuning session on the SuperFlow dyno,” concluded Fritz.”We have a long-standing relationship with Hal’s Speed Shop,” said S&S technical trainer, Jon ‘Opee’ Olson. “And based on their past VFI experience, we were able to expand on the S&S Closed Loop Variable Fuel Injection capabilities. Their experience with S&S engines let us explore some extra things on the SuperFlow dyno system-this was a great class to work with!”

Will I live to be 90?–I recently picked a new primary care physician After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing “fairly well for my age”.
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn’t resist asking him, “Do you think I’ll live to be 90?”
He asked, “Well, do you smoke tobacco or drinkcocktails, beer or wine?” “Oh no,” I replied. “I’m not doingany of that.”
Then he asked, “Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?” I said, “No, my other Doctor said that red meat is very unhealthy!”
“Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?” No, I don’t,”I said, “I’m too fair-skinned.”
He asked, “Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?” “No,” I said. “I don’t do any of those things.”
He looked at me and said, “Then why do you give a shit if you live to be 90?”
RIDE AGAINST MC BRIDE – OCTOBER 25, 2005GATHER AT 5PM / RIDE AT 6PM SHARP–[Myrtle Beach Mayor Mark] McBride said last week that he wanted to ban explicit T-shirts from sale and from being worn in public because his children shouldn’t be exposed to a T-shirt he saw recently being worn on the street. “It was very tempting to kind of nudge the guy on the bike [with my car],” McBride said last week….
Myrtle Beach Mayor Mark McBride responded Tuesday to criticism of his comment last week that he wanted to hit motorcyclists with his car. “I thought about bumping the guy,” McBride said during a City Council meeting. “I admit, the thought ran through my mind.”We don’t support wearing obscene shirts where kids can see them, but we foundthe Mayor’s comments far more offensive than anything we’ve ever seen on a t-shirt.
Our own t-shirts bearing the image above on the back and McBride’s quote on the front will be available for a donation of $15 or more, while supplies last. Profits will be donated to the campaign funds of McBride’s opponents in the upcoming November 1st election. Profits from donations after the election will be donated to a fallen biker’s fund.RideMyrtleBeach.com would like to encourage all bikers and the friends and family members of of those who ride to join us on Tuesday, October 25, 2005.We will gather between 5 and 6pm at the Island Bar and Grill in Surfside Beach (located in the Surfside Center shopping center at the corner of Glenns Bay Road and Highway 17 Bypass-where Eggs Up Grill and Anthony’s Pizza are.)
At 6:00pm sharp we will ride to the Law Enforcement Center in Myrtle Beach to be seen at the Myrtle Beach City Council meeting that starts at 7:00pm, where Mayor McBride first made his comments. Local media is expected at the council meeting so a good showing is very important. Please tell or bring as many people as you can.
An after-party will take place at the Island Bar & Grill. Free food will be provided and a full, cash bar is available. (Drink responsibly.)

Cody cycle shop prevails in trademark case–
RUFFIN PREVOST
Gazette Wyoming Bureau
CODY, Wyo. – The owners of Cody Custom Cycle are in hog heaven after a lawsuit filed by Harley-Davidson alleging trademark infringement was dismissed last week on the eve of pre-trial hearings.Harley-Davidson Motor Company Group, Inc. filed suit in U.S. District Court in Casper against Cody Custom Cycle, also known as 10-94 Enterprises LC, and owners Ray Burns and Kathy Redish.
Filed in July, the company claimed that Cody Custom Cycle used the Harley-Davidson trademarked name and images without permission, a charge the owners and their attorney denied then and now.”We always said we’d done nothing wrong, and they never proved otherwise,” said Burns. “We were right then, and we’re right now, and we’re not changing the way we do business.”Attorney Laurence Stinson represented Cody Custom Cycle and said the case was “dismissed by the court after the parties agreed to a certain resolution.”He said, “One of the things they were sued for was selling Harley parts and using the name to say they service Harley motorcycles, and they continue to have that right.”Redish said she’s glad to have the issue behind her, particularly since she and Burns, who are married, were named personally in the case.”It was my ultimate fear that they would end up with everything I owned, including my horse,” she said. “But we’ve received tremendous community support.”She said local people and bikers passing through donated money to a legal defense fund for the shop, which has been in Cody since 1994.And though she regrets being forced to bear the cost of mounting a legal defense, she credits Stinson with “championing our cause and going beyond what other attorneys would have done.”Redish said publicity about the lawsuit, which was filed shortly before thousands of bikers passed through Cody on their way to an annual gathering in Sturgis, S.D., may have helped pressure
Harley-Davidson to drop the matter.”People would come in and ask if we were the shop Harley was suing,” she said. “And when we said ‘Yes’ they’d want to buy something. It’s our belief it backfired on Harley.”Burns said he was happy to avoid a protracted trial with costly delays.”Anyone can file a lawsuit and bleed you dry,” he said. “Harley has an army of lawyers and our resources are very finite. We always knew we’d win, but we were afraid we’d be having our victory party in a cardboard box.”Harley-Davidson, a century-old brand with a devoted following, has a policy of aggressively defending its trademarks. It saw revenues last year of more than $5 billion, with $224 million in sales of clothes and general merchandise, according to the company’s 2004 annual report. In 1994, the company applied for a trademark on what it claimed was the distinctive sound of its motorcycles. Competitors contested the filing and after six years of debate, Harley-Davidson dropped the claim.
Representatives from Harley-Davidson did not return messages left over the weekend.

Judge threatens to dismiss Hell Angels’ indictments–AZ Central.com, AZ – Judge David Campbell called for Friday’s hearing in a sharply worded order suggesting that indictments against members of the biker organization might be dismissed if the U.S. Attorney’s Office fails to abide by due-process rules.Campbell described his order as “an extraordinary step of requiring the chief of the criminal division of the United States Attorney’s Office . . . to appear in court and personally certify that the government has complied with its disclosure obligations . . . advertisement”Statements made to the court by counsel for the government have been inaccurate, inconsistent and sometimes legally incorrect,” the judge wrote. “The court has concluded . . . that a higher level of attention is necessary if this case is to be brought to trial.”Prosecutors apparently responded in a memorandum, but it was filed under seal. A spokeswoman in U.S. Attorney Paul Charlton’s office declined to comment. In July 2003 federal agents and Valley police raided Hells Angels’ homes, businesses and chapter houses, arresting 16 club members and associates under a federal grand jury indictment for murder, gunrunning, drug-dealing, racketeering and other crimes. The undercover probe known as Operation Black Biscuit netted three Hells Angel chapter presidents in the state. Agents seized 600 firearms, plus stolen vehicles, drugs, club records and paraphernalia. As part of the sting, undercover investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives infiltrated the club and were invited to become members.Similar cases are being tried against dozens of Hells Angels in Nevada, California and other states.Defense attorneys have complained about misconduct by undercover operatives in the Arizona case, and about the prosecution’s failure to disclose evidence that must be shared under federal justice rules.
Joe Abodeely, counsel for defendant Craig T. Kelly, filed a motion for dismissal this week based on prosecutors’ conduct during 20 months and 10 hearings.”It is painfully clear that the government has not and does not intend to comply with its legal requirements in keeping with due process, fair play and with this court’s orders,” Abodeely wrote. In another court filing, Patricia Gitre, attorney for defendant Kevin Augustiniak, noted that the government employed three paid informers with backgrounds of violence and drug abuse. One of them failed to tell investigators that he participated in a murder that is integral to the case. A second informer concealed the fact that, while working undercover, he used methamphetamine and beat people up. A third operative was arrested and removed from the probe after state police caught him with methamphetamines.
Gitre claims those “snitches” made the government’s case, yet prosecutors have withheld volumes of information that raises doubt about their credibility. She argues that all three operatives have motive to lie for the government, which has given them money, plea deals and protection in return for cooperation.
Keith Vercauteren, the prosecutor, contends in legal filings that the government has only withheld materials that are irrelevant, unavailable or not yet subject to release under court rules. In some cases, Vercauteren argues, the defense wants information that would jeopardize ongoing investigations or the safety of informers.Judge Campbell stopped short of finding that prosecutors have acted in “bad faith,” but warned that the government must provide an “unequivocal confirmation” that defendants are getting all required information.
Campbell included an exhaustive review of the two-year battle over pre-trial evidence, noting that prosecutors claimed in January 2004 that they had “given all of the discovery” to defense lawyers. Since then, the government has produced thousands of additional documents, wiretap tapes, video recordings and other evidence. The sixteen defendants are scheduled for trial in February. A key issue appears to be whether the Hells Angels is a criminal racketeering enterprise.HAMC members and attorneys claim there is no statewide hierarchy for the biker gang, just independent clubs whose members sometimes break the law.Federal investigators say the Hells Angels organization is a violent criminal gang that operates as a syndicate, dealing in guns, drugs and theft for profit.

VTRace Girl?s Weekend Update–Last weekend (Oct. 12-14) Valerie raced two Custom Performance Turbo VRods at the Screamin’ Eagle Performance Parts Nationals Presented by Drag Specialties at the Rock, Rockingham Dragway. She attempted qualification in the Super Eliminator (10.9 index) and Super Sport (10.3 index) classes. She broke out in the Super Eliminator class and did not qualify, but posted a promising 10.718 @ 121.94 mph. In the Super Sport class she qualified 16th (10.714 @ 130.13 mph) and gave the Number One S&S qualifier David Hope a run for his money
Valerie also got to spend some quality time with Ray Price; priceless advice from the best in the business.
Valerie had a great photo opportunity with the Screamin? Eagle Destroyer. Her goal is to race one of those bad boys in 2006, all she needs is some sponsorship (we already know she has the guts and determination). What a great marketing tool for any business targeting the huge motorcycle industry?
Sponsorship from great vendors and organizations like Militec-1, Legend Air and Custom Performance along with the help and support from all of the great drag racers (Jamie McNaughton, Tripp Nobbles and Charlie Mitchell to name a few) out there every weekend has allowed the tough as nails VTRace Girl to quickly advance in the sport of her passion.
That?s It– As Bandit always says, Margarita Time! Have a great Friday and Weekend!

Bikernet without Bandit, is pretty boring, I know. I miss him too when he leaves but it does give me a chance to work at a slower pace and catch up on administrative stuff. It?s funny, for being a web-based business, we don?t have a laptop computer. When we travel, we?re unplugged. We had grand ideas about updates while he?s racing across Mexico, but in reality, he has no way of sending photos or emails. Tomorrow I?m gonna remedy that and buy a laptop. A little late for the La Carrera Panamerican, but in the future Bikernet won?t get stale when we both travel.
Speaking of the La Carerra, Bandit and Christian made it to Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico on Tuesday without a hitch. Yesterday and today they had to go through inspections, navigating classes and fix or buy what wasn?t acceptable. Tomorrow the race begins. Here?s more photos of the night before they left, showing close-ups of the 2005 sponsors. Thanks guys.

?I?m excited about our new oil filter kit? said Joe McGlynn, owner of Crime Scene Choppers, ?I?ve always liked the look of a side mount oil filter, and I wanted to do a Crime Scene interpretation of the stock Harley filter. You can put it in the stock location, or just about anywhere else, including hanging out in the breeze.?

STEALTH REPORT–Last weekend the STEALTH BIKE WORKS crew headed to “THE ROCK” for the A.H.D.R.A races in Rockingham NC. The weather was great and the bikes were hot, some hitting 215 mph!
Back at the shop we have dismantled the 71 shovel and we waiting on our frame. The old shovel got its first bath in a long time last week. I will be sending pictures as the build takes place.
These new EPA laws have me all confused. This law is another loss of freedom in what is supposed to be the land of the free. It doesn’t make sense to me but as usual big dollars and big business are at the root of this. This law makes it hard for small shops to survive and I really wonder who is behind that part, well not really. We all probably know the answer to that. You can buy all the stock bikes from the big name motorcycle makers you want. So does that give you a hint? If you have not read Bandit’s book “Orwell” check it out. This law is close to home as far as the book goes.
On a lighter note, when you run a shop or work at a shop everyday, you hear some funny things. A guy comes in and hands me a lockwasher and says “I need one of these, this one is no good,” I look at the lockwasher and ask “What is wrong with this one?” He looks at me like I am stupid and says ” Don’t you see the crack in this one and it is bent!” I just look at him and say “Oh yeah, I didn’t see it,” and proceeded to give him another lockwasher!
Strange but true!
With that I think I will close!
Until next week, RIDE!

Mandatory Rider Training–The Motorcycle Safety Foundation is looking to pass laws that will force motorcycle riders to attend one of their schools and also make a lot of money for them in the process. It is imperative that everyone involved in motorcycling use what ever means they have to see that this does not happen. This proposed legislation Will Apply To You!I would suggest letters to your legislator’s now requesting they vote against any such move should it come before them. If it has not been brought up in your state this move could stop it from coming up at all.
Please Do It Now!
Though I am in Favor of Voluntary training the Motorcycle Safety Foundation admits that their program has little benefit.

Wilma worries haunt biker event–
By JIM HAUG
Business Writer
Last update: October 20, 2005
DAYTONA BEACH — George Deffenbaugh and Mike Sayer were keeping one eye on the leather-clad women strolling along Main Street and another eye on Hurricane Wilma updates on TV.”I’m trying to figure out when to run,” Deffenbaugh said Wednesday from his comfortable perch on the bench in front of Dirty Harry’s Bar.A Biketoberfest regular, Deffenbaugh found a positive aspect to what he assumes will be a storm-shortened weekend.”This will probably be the first Biketoberfest that I’ve gone home with money still in my pocket,” the Gainesville man said.”We’ve sat through rain before, but a hurricane is something different.”Anxiety about a Category 5 hurricane making a beeline toward Florida was forcing bikers on Daytona Beach’s Main Street to rethink their plans about the annual event.Michelle Vancil, who co-owns a biker shop in Lakeland, came to Biketoberfest with her husband for a quick visit Tuesday. “We know we have to be home to board up,” she said.Tourism officials tried to reassure the skittish, in spite of the uncertainty of the storm path.”We are in a wait-and-see mode,” said Georgia Turner of the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We don’t have plans to cancel or postpone (Biketoberfest.)”Officials at Daytona Speedway Corp., site of many scheduled festival events, also were monitoring the storm. “We’re still on for everything this weekend,” said David Talley, a spokesman.State emergency-management officials talked with local agencies about how Hurricane Wilma could affect the thousands of people expected to converge on the Daytona Beach area for Biketoberfest.Craig Fugate, director of the state Division of Emergency Management, said it was unclear Wednesday how far north the hurricane would go as it crosses Florida. He said officials have until today to determine whether the hurricane will affect the event.”It’s too early to say that it’s going to be directly impacted,” Fugate said. “But we’re watching it.”Ocean Resorts, which operates 14 beachfront hotels, got a few biker guest cancellations Wednesday, but they were quickly replaced by new reservations from people fleeing from South Florida, said Doug Kosarek, the senior vice president.
Kosarek said he got the feeling that South Florida residents were trying to make the best of a bad situation. If they had to flee their homes, they were going to Biketoberfest.”It’s a different kind of day-tripper,” he said.Ocean Resorts, which owns hotels as varied as the Plaza Resort & Spa and the Mayan Inn, still has about 10 percent of its rooms vacant. Evacuees who arrive Sunday won’t have to pay Biketoberfest rates, Kosarek said.He said many people probably won’t decide what to do until the last minute.Bobby Honeycutt, general manager of Froggy’s Saloon on Main Street, was worried for his staff. The bar hires about 100 extra employees for Biketoberfest, and their livelihoods depend on the event. In a worst-case scenario, Honeycutt said, “They will get a regular paycheck, but it won’t compare to how much customers will tip.”Sandra Manglani, owner of T-Shirt Paradise on Main Street, said she was praying for good weather. “We leave it to God,” she said.Liz Swaine, a biker from Louisiana, found Hurricane Wilma to be ironic. As an executive assistant to the mayor of Shreveport, La., Swaine has been putting in 60-hour work weeks since Hurricane Katrina sent a “tidal wave of evacuees” to her city.Biketoberfest seemed like a perfect opportunity to get away from Katrina-related troubles. That was before she found out about Hurricane Wilma.
“It makes no sense to come to Florida to escape hurricanes,” Swaine said with a laugh. With rain in the forecast, Swaine and her husband, Steve Culp, plan to make an early exit .”It’s hard (to have fun) when you’re all wet,” she said.

STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM OPENS ITS DOORS IN HONOR OF PEARL HOEL’S 100th BIRTHDAY– October 2005 – – On 10 November, Pearl Hoel, the First Lady of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, would have celebrated her 100th birthday. In honor of one of motorcycling most beloved personalities, and in recognition of her support, the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame will host its annual Open House, waiving admission fees for the entire day.
“The Board of Directors was looking for a way to celebrate the life of this incredible woman,” said Pepper Massey-Swan, Museum Director. “While we miss her, we didn’t want her birthday to be a sad occasion. We wanted to remind people how much this gentle soul impacted our community and motorcycling, allowing them to learn more about something Pearl was passionate about, and the legacy she helped create.”
When the Museum opened its doors in 2001, Pearl Hoel was one of the first to step forward, loaning memorabilia and historic photos, helping to ensure the Museums success. As the wife of Pappy Hoel (the person credited with founding the Sturgis Rally), Pearl had a vast collection of vintage clothing, rare race programs, Indian Motorcycle memorabilia and photos that document the Rally’s humble beginnings and rise to one of the largest, and most famous, motorcycle events in the world.
When Pearl passed last February, one of the ways her son Jack chose to keep her memory alive was to allow the Hoel collection to remain at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, even adding to it. “We feel Pearl is here with us still because so much of her life, and her family’s life, is documented and displayed here,” continued Massey-Swan. “I encourage people who have not yet had the opportunity to take some time during the day and wander through the Museum. The community has a great asset here, and an incredible legacy, all because Pappy and Pearl hosted that little race 65 years ago.”
The history of motorcycling, and how it relates to Sturgis and the Sturgis Rally, is rich and diverse. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is proud to share the story.

BIKERNET STEALTH REPORT FROM NC–The rain washed out The STEALTH BIKE WORKS poker run this past Saturday. The run was designed to help hurricane victims. We will try to re-schedule the poker run, if possible. You can plan everything but the weather that’s how it goes sometimes.
Each day at SBW is a learning experience. There is a time everyday where I find myself picking up something new, a lesson or something to store away for future reference. I find myself learning more about bikes, more about people and more about life. Here are a few of the things that I have learned:
I have learned not to get too high when things are going good.
I have learned not to get too down when things are going bad. (Either of these situations can change with the blink of an eye!)
I have learned that sometimes no matter how hard you try or no matter what you do, you can not please everyone.
I have learned that no matter what the price, some people want something for nothing.
I have learned that you can count your true friends on one hand and have a couple of fingers left over.
I have learned that true loyalty is very seldom found.
I have learned that some people would sell their mothers out to save a few dollars.
I have learned to ignore the people who say “It can’t be done.”
I have learned that anything can be fixed if you don’t give up on it.
I have learned that there are a lot of “I gonna do this” people, who don’t.
I have learned that there are a lot of “One of these days” people, who don’t.
I have learned not to count on either of these.
Most of all what I have learned is to count on the crew at STEALTH BIKE WORKS. Max is one the best wrenches around and Chopper John is an up and coming fabricator. These guys are like family to me. We all owe “THE MEANEST” a big thanks for all she does for us. She lifts all of our spirits when we need it. I have learned to count on myself and to keep pushing when it seems you can’t push anymore. You see, if you give up you will never know what’s around that next corner. We have made steady progress from day one at SBW and we strive to improve each day. We may not be the biggest, but we put a lot of heart in what we do, what you see is what you get, no disguises , no posing. We do what we do at SBW because we all love what we do. We may never get rich but we never set out with that goal in mind.
When I decided to open STEALTH BIKE WORKS, I heard a thousand reasons why I shouldn’t do it. I found myself starting to believe I couldn’t do it, but finally I was watching the bike build off with Indian Larry and at the end he said, “If you are not doing what you love when you want, how you want, then you are just wasting time!” From that moment on I have kept that in my heart. So no matter what it takes, SBW is going to survive because I am not going to just waste time doing what I don’t believe in.
I write all of this because of some things that got under my skin last week at SBW, and it ate at me some. I feel better now saying what I felt I had to say.
With all this being said, I know there is a lot more to learn. When you stop learning, you stop living. I know in my heart that SBW is going to be around for awhile. No one ever said it was going to be easy, I never thought it would be nor did I expect it to be.
Hey, I would like to sneak this in at the last minute, yesterday, STEALTH BIKE WORKS wascontracted to do our first ground up project. A 1971 Shovelhead, rigid frame project. Yeah, I hear what you were saying, Indian Larry!
Well that is a wrap for this week!
Until next week, RIDE!

KATRINA VICTIMS IN DAYTONA HOTELS–DAYTONA BEACH — After sitting on the second floor of his bayside house during Hurricane Katrina and watching the first floor wash away, Dennis Wellington is glad to finally live in a comfortable place.Wellington of Biloxi, Miss., arrived in Daytona Beach last week to join other family members who left immediately after the storm. He stayed behind to help remaining family and friends salvage their belongings. He’s been staying at the Best Western Mayan Inn on the beachside in a room provided by the American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Red Cross has paid for his room through Oct. 14, he said. But he’s hoping his stay will be extended and that visitors for Biketoberfest, which runs Oct. 20 through Oct. 23, don’t force him out.
Members of a committee of local agencies helping Katrina victims also said Thursday they hope hotels aren’t pre-booked or that evacuees aren’t impacted by higher rates.Local Red Cross officials do not know how many are being housed in hotels in Volusia and Flagler counties because accommodations are handled through the national office.Dan Roll, chapter manager for the Red Cross in Daytona Beach, said the chapter has opened more than 425 cases amounting to more than 1,000 people. But many other Katrina victims are staying with family or friends. The Hotel Motel Association of Volusia County is waiting on results from a survey asking hotels how many Katrina evacuees they have and who has rooms available during Biketoberfest.
Ray Salazar, president of the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties, said he understands hotels have to make money and capitalize on events.”But these folks will become the new round of homeless people if we are not able to provide them some adequate shelter during (special) events,” Salazar said.
Bob Davis, president of the Hotel Motel Association, said there were similar issues during last year’s hurricanes and rooms were found for workers staying here.
Davis said state law does not allow hotels that are booked in advance to break contracts when a person provides a deposit. There are an estimated 18,000 rooms in the Volusia County area, he said.Wellington, who worked as a chef before the hurricane, hopes to get an extension from the Red Cross to stay at the hotel. What is left of his home in Mississippi has been condemned. He’s waiting for FEMA funding to get into an apartment and then find a job.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON RECALL–
Year:2006,
Make:Harley-Davidson,
Model:FLHTCUSE,
Recall Date:09/19/2005,
Potential Number of Units Affected: 460.
Defect Summary:Certain motorcycles may have front brake lines which could leak due to a manufacturing defect. Editor’s Note: Some wording seems to have been left out here resulting in an incomplete defect summary.
Consequence Summary:Should this component fail when in use on the motorcycle, all functionality of the front brake system would be lost without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Summary:Dealers will inspect the front brake line and replace if the braze is not visible. The recall is expected to begin during October 2005. Owners should contact Harley-Davidson at 1-414-343-4056.
Year:2006,
Make:Harley-Davidson,
Model:FLHX,
Recall Date:09/19/2005,
Potential Number of Units Affected: 2393.
Defect Summary:Certain motorcycles were built with mirrors that were improperly located on the inner fairing.
Consequence Summary:In this condition, it is not possible to adjust the mirrors properly, thereby not allowing the rider to have the appropriate rearward field of vision, increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective Summary:At the option of the owner, the dealer will (1) Replace the inner fairing with a new inner that has the mirror mounting holes properly positioned; (2) Drill another hole and have the mirrors repositioned. This method will cause the original hole to be exposed outside of the mirror base, which is cosmetically undesirable. The exposed hole would be covered with a decal; or (3) Drill another hole and have the mirrors repositioned, then, at a later date, have the mirrors replaced with new mirrors that have a larger base which will cover the original mounting hole. This recall is expected to begin during October 2005. Owners should contact Harley-Davidson at 414-343-4056.

CAMPAIGNING FOR THE MOTORCYCLE INDUSTRYIN SOUTH AND CENTRAL FLORIDA–The Motorcycle Tour, producers of Orlando Motorcycle Salon and Miami Motorcycle Salon, are gearing up to penetrate Florida?s largest city hubs: Orlando and Miami in Spring of 2006.
The Motorcycle Tour?s strong defining characteristic from other area shows is their marketing strategy. Their focal point is on year-round promotions for the motorcycle industry and their shows in their targeted cities. ?Market penetration doesn?t happen in a weekend or a week,? says Jose Martin, partner and Head of Marketing of The Motorcycle Tour. ?Successful entrance into an area needs several months not two days, and not relying on an event that?s enclosed in a venue but a well-built, diverse campaign.?
The company?s marketing material to their potential exhibitors reads: ?Launch a promotional campaign, for the price of a show booth,? and that?s what they intend to do for them. Exhibitors will be able to enter a series of promotional ad-ons with their participation to any of the shows. Companies will receive direct to grass-root marketing; and just to name a few ad-ons: postcard and monthly show newsletter mailers, and bike-night presence. Directly promoting the company?s shows and exhibitors to the biker that is at home, at their favorite hang-out, at their local shop, virtually anywhere the biker goes they?ll see The Motorcycle Tour and their exhibitors.
And, some companies will be able to jump into branding opportunities, which will allow them to cross-market in areas they normally wouldn?t enter or strongly enter (e.g., industry-related and specific annual city events, nightclubs, industry-related and specific magazines, restaurants and retail chains, etc.).
The Motorcycle Tour promotional strategies is what should attract major manufacturers to these markets that have been so rarely seen in past area motorcycle events. Smaller companies won?t be left behind either; every exhibitor that participates in either Miami or Orlando will be attached to their list of multi-tiered promotional ad-ons and have the chance to join cross-marketing endeavors.
Presently, The Motorcycle Tour is making themselves known in their markets? Bikenight hangouts with flyer hand-outs and prize-giveaways. Companies wishing to have a bikenight presence in the two markets may be attached to their promotions for only a trade. The Motorcycle Tour is asking companies that want to be seen to contribute anything that might represent their business (e.g., t-shirt, gift-certificate, etc. anything that?s valued $25 and up) that will be given to the winner of their online raffles. Companies will receive for the trade: logo branding, email branding and online presence.
The Bikenight promotions are only one of the many creative ways The Motorcycle Tour has in store to fully campaign the industry. Orlando Motorcycle Salon will take place on June 3-4, 2006 at the Orange County Convention Center. The Miami Motorcycle Salon will take place on April 8-9, 2006 at the Coconut Grove Convention Center. If you wish to receive more information on the shows/promotions, logon to http://www.themotorcycletour.com or call: (305) 529-2842, fax: (305) 567-2529, or email: mail@themotorcycletour.com or mail: PO BOX 144141, Coral Gables, FL. 33114

BURNIN’ DAYLIGHT–Damn, it’s warm today in SoCal and I’m headed to hot and nasty Mexico. We pick up the Sponsorship stickers today for Bikernet.com, Saxon Motorcycles, La Palma Resorts (in Rocky Point, Mexico), Accurate Engineering, Amsoil, Rebar Engineering and Horsepower Marketing. We picked up our fire suits, neck braces weapons. We’ll fly over 2000 miles behind cars careening along open rustic highways doing 150 mph. No, our stinkin’ Lincoln Capri won’t be peeling through those speeds, but we may hit 100 mph from time to time. Many thanks to the Bikernet Sponsors for their support.
When I return from the desert of Mesquite bushes and Soyora and jumping cactus, if I do, we’ll hit several projects full time. I may be working with Dale Walksler of the Wheels through Time Museum on my 1929 Peashooter restoration, while we work with Kent Weeks from Lucky Devil Metal Works in Houston on our Frisco Chopper. They both will be classics. Another project may slip into the mix, but I don’t want to jinx it until we take shipment of the parts. Then I’ll spill the frijoles.
Improvements to the Bikernet headquarters are about to move forward and we’ll report on our progress. In the meantime hang on for more old Smoke Out reports from Kevin Baas, new fiction, more book reviews from Jaq in Australia, music reviews from Mr. Priddle, also in Australia, and more Chance Hogan chapters in the Cantina.
I’m about to wrap up Chance’s first adventure in San Pedro. Next year I will publish the first Chance book. It’s destined to be a series. The second Chance adventure will be published in the Cantina next year. Cantina members will watch the new adventure take place in the Cantina Book Room. I promise to publish a book a year, goddamnit.
That’s it. Take some time to touch her leg and whisper in her ear. Save the Jack Daniels. I’ll be drinkin’ Tequila for a couple of weeks. Take some time out from the garage and the open highways to take old T-shirts to the Salvation Army or make a donation to the Red Cross.

MERCHANTS REVVING UP HIRING FOR BIKETOBERFEST–DAYTONA BEACH — Bob Thompson stopped by Choppers World during Bike Week in March, looking for parts, and ended up working there part-time.Thompson, a retired financial consultant, is still there, but right now he’s working more hours to help get the shop ready for Biketoberfest. He is just one of the many workers businesses depend on before and during the four-day event slated for Oct. 20 to 23 to handle the increased business and crowds.
As of last week, officials with the Workforce Development Board Center of Business Excellence had received requests for 90 workers for Biketoberfest. The jobs, paying between $7 and $8 an hour, were for such positions as lot attendant, greeter and doorman, said Sharon Warriner, spokeswoman for the agency.
“That isn’t to say there aren’t more (jobs) coming,” Warriner said.
Maryann Terrone, spokeswomen for Kelly Services Inc., said her firm expects to get some requests, but, as of Wednesday, there had been only a few.The workers who fill the jobs fall into various categories. Besides the unemployed, some are folks who take time off during special events to earn extra money as well as those who just like being in the thick of the events.Merchants like Tom Guest depend on them. For most of the year Guest, owner of Choppers World, employs only two-part-time workers in his Main Street store. But, during Bike Week and Biketobefest, his employment roll swells.
“Right now, I have 13 or 14 timecards in my rack,” Guest said last week, adding that number will swell by the time Biketoberfest officially kicks off.
“Everyone over here does that,” Guest said, referring to Main Street merchants bringing in additional staff.Guest said he expects to bring in a half-dozen workers each day until then to help with inventory and other duties in preparation for the main event. “I don’t work all of the people each day,” he explained.
Karen Gehris, owner of the Boot Hill Saloons in Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach, said she also hires extra staff for Biketoberfest, even though it is only four days. Gehris said she brings in just as many staffers for both biker events. Some businesses, however, turn to their existing staff for the event and provide them the opportunity to earn extra money. Barney’s Leathers on Beach Street is one, according to owner Lisa McCarthy.
McCarthy said her part-time staffers are given the opportunity to work more hours during Biketoberfest.”My handyman, who normally fixes toilets, might come in and do security for us at night. Everyone looks forward to having that bonus in the paycheck,” she said in a telephone interview.
Bike Week is slightly different because it’s a 10-day event, she said, so she hires additional staff to work along side her regular employees.

COP SELLS MOVIE RIGHTS TO MEL GIBSON– CHARLOTTE, N.C. — William Queen, as an undercover agent, infiltrated one of the country’s most dangerous motorcycle gangs and brought 53 criminals to justice. Now the native North Carolinian has sold his movie rights to Mel Gibson.

BIKERNET BIKETOBERFEST RUNDOWN–This year as in the past more and more Bikers are finding places to stay other than in Daytona Beach Florida when they attend Biketoberfest which is officially October 20-23rd.
The high prices and attitude of the city and residents has driven them to places they feel more welcome. People are telling me they can stay at the same name hotel for $100.00 -$150.00 a day cheaper in nearby cities. Even with the increase in gas a price that leaves a lot of money left over for other things.
They will go into Daytona to visit the shops like Arlen Ness, Carl’s Speed Shop, Daytona Harley and Strokerz on Beach Street and the bars on Main Street but many more will be attending Bruce Rossmeyers new Harley shop and Destination Daytona. The new shop is on 150 acres just off Interstate 95 at the junction of US 1. They will be having a Grand Opening with numerous things going on But what has everyone talking is ZZ Top will be performing on Saturday October 22nd and it will Only Cost $10.00 admission. You can be sure where most of the Bikers will be Saturday, including Me. US 1 east from Destination Daytona and I-95 is where the famous Broken Spoke, Iron Horse, Smileys Tap, and the New Boot Hill Saloon are located.
Yep The Party Is Continuing To Move Out Of Daytona. The bars that cater to Bikers all year like The Last Resort, Cabbage Patch, Gilly’s Pub, No Name Saloon that are outside the city will always do well. So will Lollipops where the girls are in Daytona Beach and the Born To Ride Saloon on US1 in South Daytona. So Go To Biketoberfest, Have A Great Time and if you see me Have Me Take Your Picture.

DOHERTY MYSTFREE– Finally a no nonsense cure for the dreaded Twin Cam oil mist dilemma. Tim Doherty, CEO of Doherty Machine, has just announced the release of what is certainly one of the most significant new products developed for the TwinCam 88 since its introduction in 1999. According to Doherty the single largest complaint of TC owners is the oil mist released through the engine breather system that ultimately ends up coating the side of the bike, rider and passenger.
Until now, there have been a number of what amount to “band aid” patches for the problem but none have produced notable permanent results.
In stark contrast to these temporary patch techniques, Doherty’s new MYSTFREE air/oil separation module eliminates the oil mist problem permanently!
Both in house and independent tests have shown that the MYSTFREE unit eliminated 99% of the oil residue emitted from TwinCam machines in good mechanical condition. Tested in engines ranging from the stock 88 up to 154 ci, Doherty’s unique device controlled virtually all misting normally associated with a build up in crank case pressure and inadequate oil pump scavenging. A direct bolt in replacement for the factory module,
MYSTFREE can be installed in about an hour with no additional modifications. There are currently a number of patents pending on MYSTFREE which retails for $229.95.

His work chronicles events dating back to the 1970’s as well as smaller gatherings right to the present. Hey,
What a wild week. Tomorrow I’m escaping to Mexico. Before I go, let’s straighten out another rumor. There was a report from the industry that Easyriders was in financial trouble again. I contacted the Boss, Joe Teresi and he wanted to know where the rumor originated. “Sounds like wishful thinking on a competitor’s part,” Joe said. “We’re kickin’ ass – copy sales and ad pages up more than any of the competition.” In other words ER is rockin’. Another rumor shot in the ass.
I’m on the edge of my seat, but we all need to thank our lucky metal flake stars. The weather’s been rough this year on plenty of Americans who could care less, now, about antique motorcycles, collections or chrome. They’re lucky to find a home, a job or, in some case a beer. Something to think about. Some 15 minutes can change your prospective on life forever.
So two things come to mind, maybe three. Count your blessings, for lack of a better way to put it. Do something for a neighbor, brother or charity whenever you have a chance. Finally, keep a constant vigil for terrorists. They need their asses kicked right out of the solar system. They’re fucking with our freedoms. Let’s hit the news:

A city within itself, this motorcycle monstrosity is home to Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson, weighing in at 109,000 square feet making it the largest Harley-Davidson dealership in the world!
It’s easy to see why Bruce refers to the dealership as “The Big Daddy of Harley-Davidson Dealerships,” walking through an outrageous 53,953 sq. ft. showroom (36,463 sq. ft. larger then a standard showroom), with over 200 motorcycles, escalators, and various lounges, a 9,800 sq. ft. Phase II will be developed in the future, consisting of over 100 acres and encompassing over 3?4 of a mile along I-95.
While Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson Shop and activities on Beach Street will remain in full swing, Destination Daytona and the Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson in Ormond beach will afford an opportunity for bikers to have another venue to ride to and enjoy while escaping downtown congestion.
Rock legends Foreigner will perform at Destination Daytona on Friday, October 21st followed by ZZ Top on Saturday, October 22nd. Both concerts start at 8pm (see below for more info).
The Seminole Hard Rock Roadhouse 2005, sponsored by Bikernet.com, will set up shop at Destination Daytona for its third stop from October 20th – 23rd. BACKYARD MONSTERS NEW SHOW–New wild-build show coming to Discovery. Monster Garage may be changing. They are shooting the last show soon.
BIKERNET THURSDAY NEWS–Read the Thursday News with great interest. I can’t speak for the industry as a whole, but I know the dealerships and their staffs around NorCal read your stuff. I get shit about my contributions all the time. Kinda gives me a warm spot in my heart to have a mechanic tell me my solution to a reader’s tech problem was “mostly right”. Ha! The good thing is now, if I’m only half-sure about a solution, I can call into three different dealerships and get a tech on the line for advice….And if I go over at their lunch hours, they don’t just pat me on the head and tell me to bring my bike in. They know if they explain something to me, I understand what they’re talking about….pretty cool in my book…
Keep up the good work, Bandito. There are damn few honest sites around these days!!!

BIKERNET FARMERS ALMANAC–An old hillbilly farmer had a wife who nagged him unmercifully. From morning till night (and sometimes later), she was always complaining about something. The only time he got any relief was when he was out plowing with his old mule. He tried to plow a lot.
One day, when he was out plowing, his wife brought him lunch in the field. He drove the old mule into the shade, sat down on a stump, and began to eat his lunch. Immediately, his wife began haranguing him again. Complain, nag, nag; it just went on and on. All of a sudden, the old mule lashed out with both hind feet; caught her smack in the back of the head. Killed her dead on the spot.
At the funeral several days later, the minister noticed something rather odd. When a woman mourner would approach the old farmer, he would listen for a minute, then nod his head in agreement; but when a man mourner approached him, he would listen for a minute, then shake his head in disagreement. This was so consistent, the minister decided to ask the old farmer about it.
So after the funeral, the minister spoke to the old farmer, and asked him why he nodded his head and agreed with the women, but always shook his head and disagreed with all the men.
The old farmer said: “Well, the women would come up and say something about how nice my wife looked, or how pretty her dress was, so I’d nod my head in agreement.”
“And what about the men?” the minister asked.
“They all wanted to know if the mule was for sale.”

JOHNNY PAG SCOOTER WEBSITE–This is an odd one. Johnny is a Hamster, a bike builder, a tattoo junky and a gangster. So what’s he doing now. He’s developed a chopper scooter overseas and is rockin’. Here’s the deal.
Aside from viewing our motorcycle models for 2006, we wanted to give you the opportunity to view our overseas facility on our web site,” Johnny said. “After a strong five year relationship with our overseas business we have now entered into a joint partnership. Amongst many other good reasons because of this, two come to mind. One, we have hands on quality control in all phases of the production, and two, because of extremely low labor rates, we are able to pass that savings on to you, the buyer.
“We are able to take JR’s design from paper, to casting, machining, chroming, and assembly stage, to the reality of two wheels going down the freeway.
” The 650,000 sq. ft. facility is 2001 and 2002 compliant. We house state of the art equipment, and are constantly adding to our facility to give you the best of the best. Example, this year we will now be manufacturing our wheels, gas tanks, and fenders in our newly built building. There by, we can now say that 95% of the products on our bikes are done in house. As for the other 5% like the cams and gears, we import them from the same Japanese company that manufactures them for the two top metric motorcycles in the world.”
” So sit back, cruise through our web, maybe take our survey, and please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

STRESS TEST– I am not sure exactly how it works, but this is amazingly accurate.Read the full description before looking at the picture.
The picture below has 2 identical dolphinsin it. It was used in a case study on stress level at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Look at both dolphins jumping out of the water. The dolphins are identical.
A closely monitored, scientific study of a group revealed that in spite of the fact that the dolphins are identical, a person under stress would find differences in the two dolphins.
If there are many differences found between both dolphins, it means that the person is experiencing a great amount of stress. Look at the photograph and if you find more than one or two differences you may want to take a vacation.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY FOUNDATION ADVOCATES REGULAR SCHOOLING–The Motorcycle Safety Foundation wants motorcyclists to get back to school on a regular basis.
In an address to the Fifth International Motorcycle Conference, the President of the American Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Tim Buche called for a “safety renewal” program, which essentially would involve ongoing rider training with a variety or courses to fit the rider’s needs and abilities.
During his presentation to the Conference, held in Munich, Germany in conjunction with the Intermot Show, Buche addressed the fact that most research has shown little benefit from the current U.S. rider-training formula, which essentially calls for a single, basic training course. Although such training, which in mandatory in some states for younger riders, appears to have an initial benefit lasting perhaps six months for new riders, it doesn’t have any measurable benefits in longer terms.
Buche announced new research that looks at more parameters (which, of course, Buche expects to reveal some unrecognized benefits) and to focus in particular on repetitive training, where a rider would follow up his initial training with additional courses tailored for those with more experience and skills.

MAYOR OF TIMNATH HAPPY TO SEE RUN LEAVE–Donna Benson didn’t shed any tears when a bar on Main Street in her tiny town of Timnath was no longer the site for the Catholic School Girl Benefit Poker Run.Yes, that’s the same motorcycle-filled-event that put the Duke of Windsor under a negative spotlight.
“Nobody’s surprised in Timnath. I think your average person would not be comfortable with these kinds of behavior going on,” Benson said. “We’re very glad it’s out of Timnath. One person once told me, ‘I have been kicked out of every bar in Fort Collins, and I’ve never done anything like that.’ I thought that put it in perspective.”
An investigation by the Colorado Department of Revenue’s Liquor License Division centering on illegal conduct June 25 should wrap up this week, but the pornographic DVD of lewd acts taking place on a pool table in the Duke remains for sale on the U.M.F. of America’s Web site.
It was activities such as what took place that day at the Duke that drove the Colorado Feed & Grain Roadhouse in Timnath out of business. Timnath is located northwest of Windsor in Larimer County.
The Timnath Liquor Licensing Authority didn’t renew Feed & Grain’s annual liquor license last fall, and the building sits empty today.
“We didn’t close it. We just didn’t renew his liquor license,” said Benson, referring to Feed & Grain owner Jon Metcalf.
Noise disturbances, beer bottles and other trash surrounding the bar and lewd behavior connected to the Catholic School Girl Benefit Poker Run, as well as similar behavior at other times, were reasons for the town licensing authority not to renew the bar’s liquor license, although it could have still remained open and served food without the liquor license.
“That run is a once-a-year thing, but there were similar incidents on many weekends,” Benson said. “The Feed & Grain is right downtown and it was right in the parking lot. One time, the School Girl Run was Sunday morning, so people got to drive by on their way to church and see more than they really wanted to see.”
Benson thinks the Catholic School Girl Run would be more appropriate out in the middle of a couple of hundred acres, and not in the middle of town of 220 people.
“We never had a problem with people getting together, having a few beers and riding a bike through town, but it’s way beyond that,” Benson said.
Severance bar owner Bruce Ruth, who has owned Bruce’s Bar for the past 50 years, has hosted Bruce’s annual Nut Run for the last 23 years where more than 6,000 bikers show up on a Sunday in September to eat his world-famous, deep-fried Rocky Mountain oysters. Ruth, 72, said he’s been approached to hold the Catholic School Girl Benefit Poker Run, but he turned them down. Ruth said if anyone wanted to hold such a run at his establishment, he’d tell them to get off his property.
“I don’t need that. I want the right people in my place. They’re not welcome here,” Ruth said. “I don’t have anybody taking movies, and I don’t allow anybody to take pictures. I’ve got a good business going without somebody trying to screw it up.”
Benson said the bikers who used to frequent Timnath during past Catholic School Girl Runs paid their own tribute to town officials before they headed to Windsor this past June.
“That day they did have a group here videotaping people coming through town,” Benson said. “A number of motorcycles made a point of not stopping at the stop sign and making a gesture toward Timnath and riding through town.”

WELD INTRODUCES NEW WHEEL SIZES–Kansas City, MO- Weld Racing Motorcycle recently announced the addition of 3 new wheel designs for their “Flare Series.” The first wheel in the “Flare Series” was the Forged wire which has received “rave reviews” from builders and dealers alike.
The wheels pictured here are the Blue Max, Korona and the Razr-3, all featuring a unique built-in hub. The integrated hub greatly reduces the run out in the wheel, reduces weight and allows the design to continue onto the hub face of the actual patent pending wheel itself.
The “Flare Series” wheels will have much more dimension to them and will appear to have a 3D effect. All the “flare series” front wheels have an integrated hub and the rears are either pulley/hub or driveside. You must use Weld’s rotors and pulleys on this series of wheels.
These new wheels come in the following sizes: 18″ x 10″, 18″ x 8.5″, 18″ x 5″, 18″ x 3.5″, 21″ x 3.25″ and 21″ x 2.15″ and are currently available at dealers nationwide. Watch for additional “flare series” wheel designs along with the introduction of two-piece rotors. Weld is also adding 17″ x 6 _” wheels and the “reintroduction” of the 18″ x 4″ to accommodate the larger tire sizes that Harley-Davidson is now offering with their new models.
Weld Racing’s Motorcycle Division recently announced the addition of 2 new products to round out their billet line of brakes. Weld’s new patent pending Pulley/Rotor Brake System incorporates a state-of-the-art heat resistant coating found on the inside of the rotor ring, where it connects to the pulley, not on the braking surface, in order to bleed heat away from the drive belt. Weld also found that by using this hi-tech coating, the brake pedal pulsation commonly associated with similar competitor’s products is completely eliminated or greatly reduced, giving you smoother, constant “stopping power.” The Pulley Brake is available in both 65 and 70 tooth, narrow (1 1/8″) and wide (1 _”) configurations.
Mark Finnie, Vice President and GM of Weld’s Motorcycle Division has been the driving force behind the expansion of their brake line. Mark Finnie stated, “We have always been an innovator in everything that we design and manufacture and our new Pulley/Rotor Brake System is no exception. We tested every type of coating available to make our new Pulley Brake setup superior to others.” “The pulley/rotor can be ordered separately, or as a complete system including the caliper and the bracket with the pulley designed to match the wheel, in left or right drive side,” Finnie added.
The complete system comes with the pulley with the attached brake rotor rings, pulley mounting hardware, pulley/brake bracket, anchor rod (with hardware), centering spacer and weld-on tab. (Brake line not included) The complete system retails for $1344 in polished and $1495 in chrome.
Weld has also introduced their new Driveside Brake System that tucks the brake rotor behind the pulley for a clean, custom look and will fit on stock Harley-Davidson Softail bikes with a very few minor modification and is perfect for all custom applications. This brake system is available for 65 and 70 tooth pulleys, both wide (1 _”) and narrow (1 1/8″) configurations. This totally new and unique brake system was specifically designed to work exclusively with Weld wheels, rotors and brake calipers. This system comes complete with caliper, driveside bracket, weld on tabs, centering spacer and all related hardware. (Brake line not included) and is available for left or right side drive fitments. The complete system retails for $649 in polished and $699 in chrome.
Please call 866-753-4289 to receive Weld Racing Motorcycle’s ’05 catalog featuring their complete line of wheels, rotors, pulleys, sprockets, billet calipers and apparel or visit www.weldmotorcycle on the internet. Weld Motorcycle, 6600 Stadium Drive, Kansas City, Mo. 64129
BIKERNET HISTORIC DEPARTMENT STUDY– The two most important events in all of history were theinvention of beer and the invention of the wheel. The wheel was inventedto get man to the beer. These were the foundation of modern civilization, and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into twodistinct subgroups: Liberals and Conservatives.
Once beer was discovered it required grain, and that was thebeginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can wasinvented yet, so while our early human ancestors were sitting aroundwaiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That’s how villages were form! ed.
Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BBQ atnight while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what isknown as the Conservative movement. Other men who were weaker and lessskilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing upfor the nightly BBQ and doing the sewing, fetching and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.
Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The restbecame known as girliemen. Some noteworthy liberal achievements includethe domestication of cats, the trade union, the invention of grouptherapy and group hugs, and the concept of Democratic voting to decidehow to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided.
Over the years conservatives came to be symbolized by thelargest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals aresymbolized by the jackass. Modern liberals like imported beer (with limeadded), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eatraw fish, but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food arestandard liberal fare. Another evolutionary side note: most of theirwomen have higher testosterone levels than their men.
Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberalsinvented the designated hitter rule in baseball, because it wasn’t fairto make the pitcher also bat. Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eatred meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are rodeocowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, medical doctors, policeofficers, corporate executives, soldiers, athletes, and generally anyonewho works productively outside government. Conservatives who owncompanies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.
Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern theproducers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believethat Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most ofthe liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming toAmerica. The liberals crept in after the Wild West was tamed, and createda business of trying to get MORE for nothing.
And you thought history was boring!
