JOE T’S BIKE BUILT BY THE DEVIL–You’ll see more about this bad assed Trump in the future, but this is about the seat. I spotted a solo seat mounted with a hiem joint at the recent World Championship show at Custom Chrome. I thought the idea was hot for my Bikernet Sturgis 2005 Project bike until I thought about it. It would pivot back and forth, not a safe operation.

So I called the Devil in Houston and he sent me these shots of Joe T’s bike and how he handled the seat mount. He’s got the right idea. I hate to admit the Devil was right, but what can I do?

NRHS SETS TWO RECORDS AT 2004 BONNEVILLE WORLD FINALS–WENDOVER, UTAH ? Fresh off of claiming the ?Fastest American V-Twin? title at September?s Speed Trials by BUB, NRHS V-Twin Performance pulled off a land speed racing double play at the SCTA/BNI ?World Finals? held at the Bonneville Salt Flats October 13-16, claiming both records they came to contest.

Team NRHS rider Timbo Horton joined the exclusive 200mph club on the NRHS 1650cc 1995 Buell S2. Horton?s qualifying pass of 205.218 mph and return pass of 206.066 mph averaged out to 205.642 mph on the old 202.989 mph record running in the 1650cc MPS-PF class.

The S2 is powered by a set of NRHS-prepped STD Heads, Axtell aluminum cylinders, and NRHS Hurricane Forged Pistons. From there Horton piloted the NRHS 1350cc 1996 Buell S1 into the record books. With an average speed of 167.056 mph, the completely unfaired S1 topped the previous mark of 166.590 mph.The S1 is set up with a NRHS/Axtell Big-Bore Engine Kit and NRHS-prepped STD heads.http://www.nrhsperformance.com/pictures/NRHS%20Team%2004.jpgPictured left to right: Aaron Wilson (Owner NRHS/Bike Builder), John Kraushaar (NRHS Machinist), Timbo Horton (Team NRHS Rider)

THIS WEEK CRAZYHORSE PAINT REPORT–We have quite treat in Reader’s Showcase this month. Ken Asp sent us apicture of his totally cool hardtail ironhead sporty. The bike just takes meback. He even runs a drum brake up front. Check it out.

I need to remind you all that would like to see their bikefeatured in our Showcase, we need pictures of the bike. If for any reason, you can’t send pictures, aren’t sure how to send them, not sure if they weresent, email me at joann@crazyhorsepainting.com and I’ll try and help ya out.

CH - fintnk

This week’s paint job belongs to Paul Camesi of Pittsburgh, PA. He had me dothese very different flames and wanted an eagle in there somewhere. Well Ipulled it off and I can’t wait to see this thing together. My hubby Jim isbuilding this wild creation and did a fantastic job building this radicaltank. When we started this project we weren’t sure where it would go. We hada mishmash of parts of work with and it looks like it will come togetherinto one evil ride.

CH - jimchp

And speaking of radical choppers, Jim has decided to sell his new bike. Whenhe was building this, the fourth Crazy Horse Chopper, he said he wanted tokeep it for a year or so, no matter what I said.

“I’m sick of selling thesebikes that ride so good. I want to keep one and ride it for a while, ya gotthat?!” This has always been a sore spot in our relationship. Jim loves, Imean loves, building bikes. If he’s not building a bike, then he is onemiserable dude to be around. And building bikes takes money.

I ain’t sellingmy sporty. And I have to keep my gooseneck. It’s used to publicize mypaint and no matter what, it’s the bike I want to keep forever. And I amnot a bank, no matter what my Victoria’s Secret bills say. So I play themean wife and try to make him sell his bikes. So I was shocked when he came in onenight and announced he was selling his chopper. We have an evil little bobbergoing together now, but he now has an idea for another long chopper. Thisone with a 250 tire. He wants to build two bikes at once here at the ChopperFarm.

CH - 4crhtnk

So if anyone out there is looking to buy a very fun to ride, verycomfortable custom built chopper, e-mail me at joann@crazyhorsepainting.com.Or call Jim directly 704-867-2855. He’ll give you the total scoop on this bike.American Iron magazine shot this bike in Sturgis, so it will be featuredsoon. You have to see this bike in person to appreciate it. If you’re in theCarolinas, go on over to Carolina Harley Davidson in Gastonia, NC. and lookit over. Anyone who has ever seen Jim’s creation’s in real life, knows theextreme detail he puts into these bikes. And they are very dependable. Ifound that out by riding the hell out of gooseneck he built.

Jim’s namemightnot be that well known as he is an extremely private person, but Jim builtthe first 12 Thunder Cycles, working with Eddie Trotta. He asking $30,000 for it, but I’m sure he’ll negotiate on the price as hereally wants to start his second bike, and I ain’t giving him no moremoney.

I have to save it as I leave for Vegas in 4 days. I’m heading out tothe SEMA and NACE trade shows. That’s why I’m typing this on Monday as nextThursday night, I’ll be busy finishing loading up the truck. That’s right,I’m driving out. More details from the road. I have a feeling I won’t begetting much sleep next week.

CH - book.JPG_1

I finally got the proof version of my book. Looks like the crew atMotorbooks did a very cool job of laying it out. It was hard work for themas I had a vision of what I wanted it to look like and it was something thatisn’t usually done. I have to go through it over the next 2 weeks andcorrect anything that needs it. Lotta frickin’ pages, now that I have it inmy hands. I’ll soon be taking preorders for the book, so surf on over towebsite to get on the mailing list. I’ll be heading out to Vegas on I-40, soif there’s any of ya’ll know anything I need to be aware of, likeconstruction backups from hell or freak weather storms or anything thatcould help me, give a shout to Your Shot. Thanks!

MIAMI MOTORCYCLE SHOW 2004–April 17-18, 2004 ?Miami, Fl. It might be the year-around sunny climate or the sexy women dressed only in a micro-thin string catching rays on the beach or the beat-pounding night-life of South Beach that attracts thousands every year to Miami, but last fall it was all that with a V-twin in between.

Builders, manufacturers and vendors spanning from the US discovered why Miami is such a hot-spot when you mix the motorcycle world to the hot, exotic lifestyle of the magic city, in three words: the ?Bling Bling.?

Miami, an international city, is home to celebrities from NFL linebackers to Pop Divas and Blockbuster actors. It is where you?ll see in one sitting, no joke, at least eighty six-figure machines rolling up the street to get a caf? con leche (that?s a coffee with milk for you non-Spanish speaking people).

And with such energy in the air, the show was no doubt the semblance of the city?s essence. V-twins, choppers, crotch rockets, all types of two and three machines at the forefront of the tropical city lured 30,000 enthusiasts to see the latest and greatest in the industry.

Motorcycle celebrities that have gained worldwide recognition from Discovery Channel Biker-build off were present displaying their bikes, signing autographs and talking to their fans about what drives their creative designs. The late Indian Larry, Eddie Trotta, Paul Yaffe, Roger Bourget, and Dave Perewitz were on hand for the enthusiastic visitors? questions and compliments.

Covering 150,000 sq. ft., 124 exhibitors had a chance to build a new following and customer base in an untapped market for the industry. Plus, riders and builders had a chance to make their mark in the Miami Motorcycle Show bike show contest that received over 100 contestants.

2005 is coming just around the corner and preparations are being made to break last year?s record, and bring the best of the best builders in an all out competition to be dubbed the East Coast Champion at the 4th annual event. April 2 & 3, 2005 are the dates that Miami will once be reborn back to the leather clad rider, Italian speedster, and Japanese jockey it was in 2004. 40,000 new friends are expected to show and over 180 exhibitors. BIKERNET NEWS TOPS–MONSTER GARAGE, S&S SUPPORTS DRAG RACING, BUELL WINS AND CHIP BIKETOBERFEST REPORT

rogue - cutie big boobs - joyce
Photo from Rogue at Biketoberfest.

Here’s the deal. I’ve been hired by Primedia to take the position of Editorial Director of Street Choppers, Hot Rod Bikes and the Editor in Chief of Hot Bike. The plan includes licensing Bikernet.com to the group. I may need your help to see that this aspect happens.

I’m not going to bail on you guys. I hope to fold material from all these books into Bikernet and make sure that all our readers get the best of all worlds. You may need to be patient with me through this process, but at the end of the day my goal is to bring you the best service, the best entertainment and the best access to informations and products. Hot Bike is destined to bring the best of the Biker world to print. Hot Rod Bikes goal will include publishing the best performance and tech with the hottest technical coverage in the industry, and finally, you’ve read HORSE, but you ain’t seen nothing until you read Street Choppers and find yourself face to face with the new school/old school controversy. You want to build a chopper, this book will show you the way, old school or hot billet performance.

And my hope is that each element of these books will be covered on Bikernet. So goddamnit, I don’t need to pack my lunch tin until Monday, so let’s hit the news:

rogue - buffalo chip shirt

BUFFALO CHIP AT BIKETOBERFEST–The Biker Chip from Sturgis South Dakota came to Daytona for Biketoberfest and opened at the famous Speedway. All sorts of stories and reports were running around about the wild parties of Sturgis. They included nudity, bikini, wet t-shirt, no shirt contests, and pickle lickin competition.

The speedway officials promised community leaders none of that, and as far as I know there wasn’t. I know I didn’t see any of it when I attended Friday evening. Of course there were members of the Sheriff’s Department on hand to make sure nothing was going on that might offend any of the do-gooders in the community who want to Clean Up The Party Image of the worlds most famous beach.

rogue - cutie on bike

I’d describe it as a concert attended by Bikers and alcohol was available. As opposed to some of the large bars where obviously alcohol was the main draw and the offered musical entertainment. Like most of the places in the area you could ride your motorcycle into the event and party.

I liked it. It was a change of pace for me. It wasn’t crowded, but then again a lot of places weren’t. With the overall attendance down it was hard to tell if it was due to the venue or the event. The Buffalo Chip owner Rod Woodruff said, “We’re just a bunch of mature people who want to talk with friends, drink beer and listen to good music.”

rogue - chip barmaid

It cost $20.00 dollars to get in and that included all the draft beer you could drink, well up to the time you showed you were having too much. You could also sleep on site, if you wanted to or if you had too much to drink. Add a well known musical group and it was a good deal.

I expect, as the word spreads, you’ll see this event grow.

See you there Bike Week.

ESTOK RIDES BUELL TO VICTORY AT F-USA THUNDERBIKE FINALE– Evo-Twin/Harding Harley-Davidson Team Riders Finish Season 1-2 in Points.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (Oct. 24, 2004) ? Evo-Twin Racing/Harding Harley-Davidson rider David Estok took the pole aboard a Buell Firebolt by cruising to an easy victory at the final Formula USA National Thunderbike race of the 2004 season at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The win was his third of the season and locked up his runner-up finish in the Thunderbike national championship.

Estok led all qualifiers with a 1:31.942 lap around the infield road course. Williams Harley-Davidson/Buell rider Randy Rega, also aboard a Buell Firebolt, was the second-fastest qualifier with a time of 1:32.583.

Estok?s Evo-Twin Racing/Harding Harley-Davidson teammate Bryan Bemisderfer qualified 10th aboard his Buell Firebolt, but was black-flagged on lap two of the race with a smoking exhaust. According to team owner Jeff Harding, no oil leak or other problem was discovered on Bemisderfer?s bike, but because he lost a lap in the pits, he did not return to the race. Estok roared off to a quick lead in the 12-lap race and was never challenged as he claimed his third Thunderbike win of the season.

Suzuki-mounted Motorcycle Performance rider Ed Key finished 4.705 seconds behind Estok after a race-long battle for second place with Evo-Twin Racing/Harding Harley-Davidson rider Tim Bemisderfer, who also rode a Buell Firebolt. Suzuki rider Michael Niksa was fourth, followed by Hoban Brothers Buell of Appleton rider Jeff Johnson on a Buell in fifth. Blue Springs Harley-Davidson rider Walt Sipp was sixth on a Buell, followed by Joe Rozynski on a Kosco Harley-Davidson Buell Firebolt.

Championship recap

Despite not finishing the race, Bemisderfer had already clinched the Thunderbike championship with a win at the Las Vegas round Sept. 19.

?Another win by David is a great way to end a successful season for this team,? said team owner Jeff Harding. ?When we started the year, we were hoping we could go one-two in the championship with this pair of talented riders, and that?s just how it worked out.?

The Corning, N.Y.-based Evo-Twin Racing/Harding Harley-Davidson team won four of the eight races on the 2004 Formula USA Thunderbike schedule, with Estok and Bemisderfer placing first and second together at the Daytona and Las Vegas rounds. Bemisderfer won the title with 105 points; Estok followed in second place with 93 points. Johnson was third with 73 points.

?This was our team?s most successful season to date,? said Harding. ?Our riders got great support all year from crew chief Shannon Destasio and crew members Bill Ripley and Jim Lapey. We have not locked down our plans for next season, but we?d like to be back with both riders.?

The Formula USA National Thunderbike series is a horsepower-to-weight ratio restricted class, open to a variety of production-based motorcycles. Buell-mounted riders competing in the eight-event 2004 Thunderbike series raced for a share of the $70,500 contingency fund posted by Buell Motorcycle Company and Buell Riders Adventure Group (BRAG).

BIKERNET OFFICIAL ADVICE–A police officer pulls over a speeding car. The officer says, Iclocked you at 80 miles per hour, sir.”

The driver says, “Gee, officer I had it on cruise control at 60, perhaps your radar gun needs calibrating.”

Not looking up from her knitting the wife says: “Now don’tbe silly dear, you know that this car doesn’t have cruise control.”

As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks overat his wife and growls, “Can’t you please keep your mouth shut for once?”

The wife smiles demurely and says, “You should be thankfulyour radar detector went off when it did.”

As the officer makes out the second ticket for the illegalradar detector unit, the man glowers at his wife and saysthroughclenched teeth, “Darn it, woman, can’t you keep your mouth shut?”

The officer frowns and says, “And I notice that you’re notwearing your seat belt, sir. That’s an automatic $75 fine.”

The driver says, “Yeah, well, you see officer, I had it on,but took it off when you pulled me over so that I could get my license out of my back pocket.”

The wife says, “Now, dear, you know very well that you didn’thave your seat belt on. You never wear your seat belt when you’re driving.”

And as the police officer is writing out the third ticketthe driver turns to his wife and barks, “WHY DON’T YOU PLEASE SHUT UP??”

The officer looks over at the woman and asks, “Does yourhusband always talk to you this way, Ma’am?”” Only when he’s been drinking.”

S&S is showing its dedication by increasing sponsorship from three to four classes during the 2005 AHDRA season. In addition to Pro Stock, Pro Gas, and Super Sport, S&S is proud to announce the creation and enthusiastic support of the new S&S 124-inch Challenge class. ?S&S has always been interested in starting a grass roots race class and our president, Brett Smith, was able establish this new class with the AHDRA immediately following the success of the 124? We look forward to the new interest this class will create. This is a new avenue for the average racing enthusiast to show their stuff at the track.?

?We are also very pleased to show our support of the AHDRA and the race teams with a cash payout of nearly $25,000 at the end of the 2005 racing season,? continues Anderson. ?This is an increase of over $4,000 from the 2004 racing season. This 2005 cash payout includes supporting the addition of the S&S 124? Challenge class and increasing awards for the Pro Gas and Super Sport classes respectively. Rewarding the hard-working race teams for their achievements in the 2005 racing season is very important to S&S.?

S&S has also stepped it up in a big way with contingency awards for first place winners in 10 classes for each of the 15 races in the 2005 AHDRA season. These certificates range in value from $200 to $60, depending on the class. There will be contingency award certificates specifically for the S&S 124? Challenge class. These awards range in value from $700 for 1st place to $100 for 8th place, in each race. First place certificates will be awarded at the coveted winner?s circle following each race. ?S&S looks forward to another great year working with the AHDRA and providing proven performance products to the many valued racers and customers throughout the industry,? said Ted Grabowski of the S&S Racing Department.

STATE INSTALLS METERED TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON I-95 ENTRY RAMPS– The Florida Department of Transportation is installing metered traffic lights on Interstate 95 ramps to manage traffic during rush hour.

The ramp metering system will be in operation from Ives Dairy Road to Northwest 62nd Street late next year, officials said. The system, in which traffic lights channel merging traffic, is being implemented to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes during rush hour, department officials said.

The system will incorporate meters to control merging traffic from the ramps to the highway. Sensors along the highway will measure gaps between vehicles and transmit the information to a center, where the traffic lights would be controlled.

During peak traffic hours, ramp metering can increase traffic from 1,400 automobiles per lane per hour to up to 2,200, according to US Department of Transportation statistics. In addition, meters can cut crashes up to 50% during the peak of rush hour, the federal department says.

About 220,000 vehicles enter the 11-mile section of I-95 daily, according to department records.

BANDIT WENT TO THE CANTINA FOR A DRINK–As he sat sipping his whiskey, a young lady sat down next to him. She turned to him and asked, “Are you a real biker?”

He replied, “Well, I’ve spent my whole life on motorcycles, riding the open road, drinking in biker bars, and building bikes, so I guess I am.”

She said, “I’m a lesbian. I spend my whole day thinking about women. As soon as I get up in the morning, I think about women. When I shower, I think about women. As I watch TV, or even eat, I think about women. Everything seems to make me think about women.”

The two sat sipping in silence. A short time later, a man sat down on the other side of the old bikerand asked, “Are you a real biker?”

The biker replied, “I always thought I was, but I just found out I’m a lesbian.”

Covington is interested in trying to get it on the cover of Hot Bike. Do you know what is going on over there? Did Frank or any one we know get the job?

There are not a lot of people in Daytona as yet. Berry had no problem finding a room but only until Thurs. It looks like that is when they are expecting people. I am Not Impressed with what is going on. But it is nice to be able to get around and also not have to wait in line for everything.

VICTORY CONNECTION FOR CUSTOM PARTS–I also have some good info for our buddy in Jeff sunny Baghdad. the bad news is the tolerances are too tight to install a bigger tire with the stock set up. BUT the good news is, I did find a good contact from the guy’s at Victory.

It seems there is a custom shop in their area that produces fat tire kits and other custom production components for Victory Motorcycles. They have an exchange program for most Victory models to reduce the wait time. I checked out their web site www.northstarcustomcycle.com, and they have some good looking stuff on their web site.

I also gave them a call and spoke with Mr. Peterson over the phone. They seem to be on the ball enough for me.

OIL UPDATE FROM BIKERNET–For 883cc and 1200 Sportster motorcycles, the AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for both the engine and the transmission.

On 1340 cc and 1450 cc models, the 20W-50 AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil is recommended for the engine crankcase, AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-90 Gear Lube for the transmission and AMSOIL 10W-40 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil for the chaincase.

amsoil

These recommendations for the 1340 cc and 1450 cc are, in our opinion, superior to using a 20W-50 m/c oil in the engine, transmission and primary as H-D recommends with their new Syn3. If you choose to you certainly can use the AMSOIL 20W-50 motorcycle oil in the engine, transmission and primary as a replacement for the Syn3 (which is a 20W-50 m/c oil), however it is our recommendation that it is better to use the specific products outlined above for superior performance.

Gear Lubes have Extreme Pressure (EP) additives for superior protection of the gear surfaces while motor oils typically do not have EP additives since EP additives can be detrimental inside an engine. Therefore it is better to use gear lube in your transmission than motor oil.

The change interval specification on AMSOIL motorcycle oil and AMSOIL Super Motorcycle Oil Filters is 2 times manufacturer recommendations.

For cars and light trucks: AMSOIL Series 2000 0W-30 Severe Service is one of the very best and is a 35,000 mile/1-year oil. Change the AMSOL Super Duty oil filter every 12,500 miles/6-months. If you do not put 35,000 miles per year on then the 5W-30 (ASL) or the 10W-30 (ATM) are also excellent choices and both are 25,000 mile/1-year lubricants. All AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants meet and far exceed all manufacturer specifications as well as API Specifications.

AMSOIL Series 3000 5W-30 HDD is the most advanced chemistry product AMSOIL offers and is also a 35,000 mile/1-year oil in non-commercial gas engine passenger cars and light truck applications. It has the beefiest additive package of all AMSOIL motor oils and resists oil breakdown from heat, blow-by chemicals and oxygen up to 10 times longer than conventional oils. It is also an excellent severe duty fleet type oil for applications such as police and delivery fleets.

the AMSOIL Series 2000 0W-30 Severe Service is a racing oil and of a different chemistry than the 10W-30 and 5W-30. I have been a Ford Engineer for 19 years and we often use the 0W-30 in the 800 Hp Ford/Roush Nascars as it has a shear strength better than most 50W oils and transfers heat more efficiently than heavier oils. Only about 60% of the engine cooling is done by the coolant and the rest is done by the oil via heat transfer. The 10W-30 and 5W-30 would not be good choices for racing. The 5W-30 ASL product code and 10W-30 ATM are both 25,000 mile/1-year oils where the 0W-30 is a 35,000 mile/1-year oil. The 4-ball wear test is also run at a different load, temp and RPM than the other 2 products so they cannnot be compared in that area. The 0W-30 does not thin out to a 0W as it gets hot. It stays a 30W just like the 10W-30 and the 5W-30. They are ALL 30 weight oils and each one can be beneficial in a specific application. The 10W-30 is a better oil under certain instances for higher mileage engines as it has a lower volatility. 10W-40 High Performance is a heavier duty oil for severe off road, towing and RV type use and is also a 25,000 mile/1-year oil.

BIKERNET AUSTRALIAN REPORTER SIGNS IN– Now, if you thought I was Ifuc–ng nuts before, wait’ll ya hear what I’ve been up to this month!!! -I just bought a 1991 FLH really cheap. It was pretty sad looking, with abit of rust and dirt and somewhat negleted, but after testriding it and going over it, I realized I was onto something good. Paidthe man and took off. Soon as I got it home I gave it a big wash, out withthe rattle cans of flat black (not the whole bike) and on with a solo seat, dropped the arse 1 inch and threw on a couple of Bikernet stickers and nowshe has class.

I’m gonna sell the Sturgis and keep this one awhile. Eventhough she’s a bit of a rat – I love it!!! The Pan is still a comin’ – I’mwaiting on a Paugho frame to arrive – so that one’s changed big time – frommy original idea!

Hey man! my motto is keep’em guessing and keep itinteresting , I didn’t get any photos of the ‘Priddle makeover’ on the FLH,as it happened so damn quick and our camera is in getting fixed. Well folksthat’s it from the Aussies and hope this finds you all fit and well.

ROGUE - CLEAVAGE

ROGUE EMBEDDED IN BIKETOBERFEST FOR TODAY’S REPORT– Well today is Thursday, and the area will now allow vendors to open and sell their products through the weekend. There is a slight increase in bikes coming onto town.

Bikers are reported to be all over the state in places like Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Key West. I have not gotten any reports from the west coast of Florida though.

The big question everyone is asking is Are the Bikers Avoiding Daytona? If so is it because of the way they have been treated in the past? Is it because of the hurricane damage and limited rooms? If that is a answer how does it explain them being all over the rest of the state? Are they unaware that the city has officially increased the days of Biketoberfest?

With out allowing the out of state vendors to open it appears to be half a event and a lot of people think the vendors are not open because of lack of business, it is very confusing to many.

Things are scheduled to officially start happening today and I will get out and about and see what I can find.

Here’s a few shots from Bob T. just to wrap up the news with some shit from the ’70s. The gentleman, Bob George, in the top shot taught me how to rebuild engines in 1970. And that’s the original Easyriders streamliner he’s looking at. I introduced Bob G. to Mil Blair at Jammer Cycle in 1978 and they became a sponsor and ultimately Easyriders became the owner. The rest is history.

Finally there’s a couple of open road shots from Bob T., I rode with him in 1972. He’s still riding and living in a rusting 1959 Cadillac anchored in the Desert east of Palm Springs. There’s a couple of haunted stories there.

DOCTORS AND GUNS WE ALL SHOULD KNOW–I got this from a nurse friend of mine.-ROGUE

Doctors:
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services. Now Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. Yes, that is80 million.
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.Statistics courtesy of F.B.I.

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.Remember, “Guns don’t kill people, doctors do.”

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN,BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR!
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat immediatly. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics onlawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.

CH - 21.JPG_1

THE CRAZYHORSE PAINTER’S REPORT–I was all set to write about my experiences with over eager members of the law enforcement community. But the other day while looking through some old car magazines, I remembered some very funny things that happened back in the early ’80s, when I was unfortunate enough to own a body shop/garage with two morons. Three, if ya count my dad. Now I loved my dad bigtime, but he was always doing something stupid. One of which was the people he hired. One young girl, I’ll call her Prissy so no one recognizes her, was quite a character.

Now Prissy was one of those girls that always acts like she knows it all. One day my dad asked her to check the oil in the old, beat station wagon he used to deliver auto parts. It was low a quart, so my dad gave Prissy a full gallon jug of reclaimed oil, (that’s what he used in that oil burning wreck).

So she walks back in a little later with an empty jug and says it wasn’t enough. “I poured it all in but it still ain’t full.”

My dad can’t believe it. He’s thinking she must have missed the spout and there’s a gallon of oil sitting on the pavement under the car. They go out to the car and she points to the oil opening in the valve cover. “See, you still can’t see the surface of the oil. It must not be full.”

Needless to say, they had to drain out about 3 quarts before she could start her deliveries.

Prissy’s family lived near our shop in the rough section of town. She took to hanging around the shop, checking out the guys and trying to impress them. True – life at school had not been easy for her, but there were times when we wanted to choke her. One such night she told her mom a big lie about us. The kind of lie that could have got us all thrown into jail. Her mom pulled into our driveway like a house-of-fire.

I seldom saw my boyfriend raise his voice but that night he went off like a rocket. He told her mother how she better get a handle on her daughter or he’d turn in Prissy. “You better clean your house out lady. They got dogs that can sniff that stuff out no matter how well it’s hid.” A very embarrassed mom backed out of the yard as quickly as she had come roaring up.

A while later, a bunch of us are hanging out. It’s a Friday night, we are all around 20 years old, nothing better to do than hang around the shop, drink and talk bikes. We’re sitting there in these old bucket seats from a Capri that lean against the wall between the two overhead doors. So we see this shadow sneaking around in the alley. Could it be a neighborhood thug trying to mug the bikers? Yeah, right. Like that would happen.

From the way the local criminals treated us you woulda thought we had rocket launchers and M-16s in concrete bunkers. It’s got to be Prissy. Well we’re all feeling no pain, so we mess with her by bombarding the wall nearest her with beer bottles. Plenty of ammo had been available by then and there were six of us. She finally starts screaming and comes out saying she’s bleeding bad. She had a little cut on her hand. She says she’s scared to go home and wants to be forgiven. Derek tells her she has blown her shop privileges and must leave.

She lays down on the ground and won’t move. One of the girls, the biggest one, Lori, helps me get Prissy on her feet and we begin to push her up the street toward her house.

Lori was 5 foot 8 inches tall and played football with her three brothers. Prissy is fighting us like a girl possessed, jerking and trying to pull away. But we are fortified by an evening of hard drinking. There was no way we would let go. We got her about three doors down from her house and she suddenly quiets down and walks easily for a bit. Then she jerks loose and runs down the street. Lori takes after her, comes up behind her, leaps in the air and takes Prissy down with the sweetest tackle I’ve ever seen. She just flew through the air and grabbed Prissy around the legs and down she went. Prissy didn’t give us any trouble after that. Lori and I walked back to the shop in the moonlight.

Life was sweet that night. We didn’t go to jail. Prissy’s mom believed us and not her daughter, and we had our whole lives ahead of us. Prissy got her shop privileges back, and she continued to provide us with drama.

We closed the shop three years later. It did not have a happy ending. There was no shortage of crazy bad situations. These days, I don’t mind drama, as long as it’s not happening to me. But I’ll always remember that perfect tackle.

This week’s paint job belongs to Wendy Murray. Wendy had a baby boy a short time ago, and her hubby Randy decided to build her a bike. Now Randy is not a bike builder, but he loves custom bikes and has taught himself as much as he can. I painted a bike for Randy back in 2000 that made the cover of Biker. Wendy’s bike is a low little Softail springer. They went for a very blacked out look, using chrome as an accent. Below is a shot of Randy’s old bike.

BIKERNET NEWS REVIEW– I thought I would write to you to tell you how much I like your site. Italways has very useful info, and now I am real happy that I get home fromwork every Thursday evening after work and read the weekly news.

It was about a week before Sturgis and on your site there was a link to asurvey on motorcycle pipes and that the first 700 people that completed thesurvey would be entered into a drawing for a set of pipes of your choosing.Well I’m game so I filled out the survey and forgot about it.

Well about amonth ago I got an e-mail from Bill Tichenor who is the marketing managerfrom Holley performance products, who in turn own Hooker Headers. Bill hadstated that I had won the contest and as winner I would be able to get anypipe that I wanted up to $700.00.

Well I wasn’t sure as I had heard about different e-mail scams before. But Ie-mailed Bill back and said thanks and since Hooker sponsored the survey Iwould pick a set of Hooker pipes as my prize.

Well on Oct 18th the big brown truck pulled up in front of my house anddelivered a box. I opened it and inside were my new Hooker step tuned shortpipes. they were absolutely hot looking. I just wanted to tell you andHooker Headers a big THANK YOU!!

I have never won anything before and thesepipes will look hot on my FXST. I will enclose a few pics when I installthem.

RIKKI BATTISTINI’S BIKE SOON TO BE FEATURED ON BIKERNET–Rikki works for Arlen Ness. He’s the number three designer behind Arlen and Cory. He was born in England and came to the States a few years back. Since 9/11 he’s struggled to stay here. I’ve known Rikki for about 8 years and he’s a quality guy. One of the good ones. Bikernet is doing what we can to assist with his Visa efforts. Watch for the report.

BIKERNET MEDICAL DEPARTMENT– Five surgeons are discussing who has the best patients to operate on.

The first surgeon says “I like to see accountants on my operating table because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered”.

The second responds “Yeah, but you should try electricians. Everything inside them is color coded.”

The third surgeon says “No, I really think librarians are the best. Everything inside them is in alphabetical order.”

The fourth surgeon chimes in: “You know, I like construction workers. Those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end, and when the job takes longer than you said it would.”

But the fifth surgeon shut them all up when he observed:”You’re all wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on. They have no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains and no spine. And the head and the ass are interchangeable!”

FREE AMERICAN DOWN– While riding my motorcycle in Phoenix I was targeted and hit by an old black druggie driving a borrowed car. I was almost killed, my skull cracked open and ribs broken. I was kept locked up and heavily drugged in hospitals in Phoenix. My sons kept my motorcycle magazine running and tried to have me kept in the hospital.

I got out and reclaimed my company but my sons and wife took all available funds and skipped the state, leaving me to survive and try and salvage what was left after their looting spree.

I was abandoned by my family and owe my life and livelihood to a couple bikers who came in to help and protect me from my own sons.

My wife of twenty five years moved back in with her family who told her she would be disowned if she came back to me. I am looking for people to help finance and restore the Free American.

STEALTH IMAGE

STEALTH REPORT FROM N.C.–Stealthman is up in Virginia visiting his family for a few days, so it’s me, Meanest, filling in for the Thursday news.

I was a mere babe in the woods when I started working at H-D of Charlotte a few years ago. I had never been around bikers, or even been on a bike. After my first ride, I was hooked. It didn’t take me long to realize why bikers feel a special kinship to others who ride. You become part of a large, extended family.

My point to all this is that just because you own a bike, or ride, doesn’t make you a biker, and it sure doesn’t make you a member of that family. The ones who have the most seem to appreciate it the least. The “haves” and the “have nots” couldn’t be more different if they wore signs, not that they need to. The “haves”stick out like a sore thumb in their new leathers, with every piece of chrome you can throw on the newest factory model. Some of the “haves” even shell out the big bucks to buy a yuppie chopper as seen on the latest Discovery Channel show, (no offense, Mr. Bandit!).

Working in a dealership, I get to see a lot of the “haves” and I’ve worked for more than a few of the “haves” through the years. Don’t count on them when you’re down. Quite the opposite, the “haves” want to know what you can do for them. It’s the “have nots” who will stop if you’re broken down on the side of the road, who will buy you a beer at bike night if you’re short of cash, the ones who will include you in their Sunday afternoon cookouts when you need a friend. These are the people who support a good cause, hug you to celebrate your good fortune, and shake your hand when you’ve been dealt a raw deal.

Loyalty is a word that is thrown around a lot these days, but it’s a quality, not just a word, that is defined by the fine people I have met and known since I was introduced to bikers. Notice I didn’t say “motorcycle enthusiasts,” I said “bikers.” As the popular helmet sticker says, “If I have to explain, you wouldn’t understand.” You won’t find a more loyal, hard-working group of people than the bikers you meet as you go down the road. I’m still a babe in the woods when it comes to bikes. Hell, Stealthman won’t even let me go in our garage when he’s not home! But in my heart I know I discovered family when I took that first ride. I’ll be a biker, and a “have not” any day, especially when you consider the alternative.

Until next week, when Stealthman should return to his usual spot, tell somebody how much they mean to you. Better yet, take them for a ride.

Love and kisses,
–Meanest

REVTECH ENGINE

NEW REV TECH 4 BY 4 ENGINE–The engineers and technicians at RevTech? went back to the drawing board to create our next generation 100-inch engine. We studied the latest technology, combined that with expertise gained on the first RevTech, 100 project, and got down to the task at hand. The goal was simple; create the best all-around engine for the American V-Twin market!

Fortunately the RevTech design staff did not have to start from scratch.

We began with a solid foundation, the fire breathing RevTech 110 power plant, and refined it further to produce a motor for most everyone. By shortening the stroke to 4-inches, excellent balance with less vibration was achieved. A positive side-effect of the shorter stroke was reduced piston speed which increases reliability due to lowered stresses. Bikernet will bring you a full report shortly.–Bandit

Even if I’m not riding, the thought that I can’t brings me down to the pits. Fortunately Krash sent me a bottle of Makers Mark for the Monster Garage show. I’m milkin’ it.

A call rang through from the headquarters just a couple of minutes ago. “Get your ass down here and hold this petcock bung,” Mr. Hall, the professional welder, three doors down, on our industrial wasteland street, hollered. “I want it to burn your hands not mine. His shop area was muddy and swamped from the rain, but he has a number or workshop 20-foot steel containers. In one is his partially completed hot rod project. Another houses his office, small project welding table and my aluminum XR tank for the chopper sat center stage.

ultimate - bill holding tank
Here’s Bill Hall, the real welder, pointing out the dent I put in my tank. Yeah, it’s my fault.

He instructed me to hold the bung on a wire at a specific angle for him to tack. Natch, I dropped the dam thing right through the hole into the tanks. He snapped, set his tungsten tip TIG torch down to fish out the bung. I slipped out the back quietly. Let’s hit the news:

S&S ENGINE

S&S SHOVELHEAD ENGINES AVAILABLE–VIOLA, WI (October 18, 2004) S&S is pleased to announce the availability of complete Shovelhead style engine assemblies. These engines feature the finest parts on the market today, including the same bullet proof crankcases, flywheels, cylinders, and heads that we have offered for years. We have now topped these off with our new premium valve train components including an S&S billet gear cover, tappet guides, and rocker boxes. In addition, these engines feature Evolution style tappets and cams, collapsible adjustable pushrods, and forged Shovelhead style roller rocker arms for quiet and dependable operation. 80 & 93 cubic inch displacements will be offered in Generator and Alternator style, as well a new Alternator/Generator style for retro looks wit modern dependability.

?We have recently seen a huge resurgence in the popularity of retro style bikes as well as a demand for high quality replacements for several of the now obsolete parts used in Shovel engines. Rather than simply copy a 1966 design, several aspects have been reengineered and greatly improved. While our new billet rocker boxes feature the classic Shovel look, their two piece construction and our exclusive straight rocker shafts will assure that they perform as good as they look. I?m confident that the new Alternator/Generator style will be among the most popular of our new products?, said marketing manager Bruce Tessmer.

NEW DAYTONA MAIN STREET VISION–DAYTONA BEACH — Visiting urban planners offered city, resident and business leaders a new vision for the Main Street area Friday as bikers began bearing down for the kickoff of Biketoberfest.

A nine-person team from the Urban Land Institute, a non-profit group based in Washington, D.C., spoke of themed outside festivals for upscale bikers with landscaped buffers and speed bumps to protect neighborhoods from events.

The plans also include new condominiums, restored historic homes, pedestrian promenades, a new convention hotel near the Ocean Center and a parking garage with ground-floor shops and rooftop townhomes.

But in a presentation following a week of interviews with city leaders, the planners also identified an obstacle — a hardening of attitudes by various interest groups in the city on issues such as special events and development.

“It’s time to put aside this self-imposed gridlock,” said Frank Sparicio, the team’s chairman.

City leaders applauded the presentation, but some of Friday’s recommendations could ignite smoldering controversies — over the city’s power to force the sale of property for development, oceanfront condominiums in the core tourist area and outside festival vendors. The planners support all three.

DAYTONA CAR PULLS IN FRONT OF MOTORCYCLE, TWO INJURED– DAYTONA BEACH — Two Ponce Inlet residents were injured when their motorcycle spilled while attempting to slow down behind a car making a right turn on International Speedway Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The motorcycle operator, Mark Weeksno age given, no age listed, was transported to Halifax Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition on Sunday, a nursing supervisor said.

Jinsong Weeks also was taken to Halifax, the FHP said, but a no age given condition was not available Sunday.

The accident occurred at 2:05 p.m. Saturday on International Speedway Boulevard near the intersection of Red John Drive west of Daytona Beach, said Trooper Kurt Glaenzer. The pair were westbound on International Speedway Boulevard when a westbound car driven by Heather Lovett, address unavailable, pulled in front of them from the inside lane to make a right turn, Glaenzer said. Mark Weeks tried to slow down but the motorcycle slid, throwing the motorcycle’s two occupants to the roadway.

Lovett was not injured and charges are pending an investigation, Glaenzer said.

ROGUE - WHEELMAKER

FLORIDA WOODWORKER MAKES WHEELS–DELAND — When John Richert grabs the oak and walnut handlebar grips of his 1979 Harley-Davidson, he holds two great loves of his life in his grasp. John Richert shows off his motorcycle in the garage and woodworking shop of his DeLand home.

“It makes him who he is,” says Gloria Ehmann, his girlfriend of 10 years.Family and friends tease Richert, a 69-year-old retiree, for his wild, white hair. Einstein in a biker tank top, they call him.

He takes his motorcycles so seriously he moved from South Florida in 1992 so he could be closer to Daytona Beach, home of events such as this week’s Biketoberfest.

But when he’s not riding, he’s in the garage building box joints or handling the head saw.

ROGUE - WHEELMAKER
A few years back, he started on his masterpiece, the “woody Harley.”

Ask how much it’s worth and Richert guesses maybe $10,000, not bad for a bike with 150,000 miles on it.

But, he adds: “I ain’t going to sell it.”It’s the work that gets him noticed in the biker crowds, Ehmann said.

“It gets conversations going, it’s so different,” she said.Much of the custom works on his 25-year-old bike are handcrafted accessories. From a sunglasses box at the base of the windshield to carved lettering spelling out the hog’s maker between the wheels, the woody is a timber titan amidst the thunder of chrome.

That very motorcycle — he has several others — was the one that brought Richert and Ehmann together 10 years ago. It was before he began decorating it with his handicraft.A friend introduced the two, knowing they both loved motorcycles. Both divorced, they have been together ever since.

ROAD RIDE ROUTES– Was just looking through my bookshelves last night (they happen to be bigger than “W”s proposed Presidential Library….a cardboard box in a locker at the San Pedro Greyhound bus station). Stumbled across something I’d forgotten (happens more and more these days). Your riding buddy Clemente “Dago”Salvadori has written a lot of good books about rides in California. While these aren’t geared toward “bikers” per se, they’ve got routes I’ve tried and are generally pretty good.

If you put a new section in the Cantina for good routes, maybe you could use some of his stuff (with permission, of course) and punch it up a little, biker-wise.

If you see a route in the book you like, and it’s in NorCal, I can run the ride and find stops that are more “biker” than “Ducati”, if you catch my drift…you can put the stops in when you bring the route up on your site…

Here’s a link to one of his better books, listed on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com

We’re considering a section devoted to ride routes and recommendations. Whatta ya tink?–Bandit

UNDERSTANDING SUSPENSION WORKSHOP–The simplified theory and practical application of 21st Century suspensions.

On November 22, 23 and 24th, 2004 in the Los Angeles area the most complete suspension workshop ever will host two of the most suspension savvy people in the world: Author and world lecturer, Tony Foale and David Hodges of GP Suspensions.

MONDAY and TUESDAY, November 22 and 23, in Los Angeles is the Tony Foale Two Day Seminar. Tony Foale has called on his 40+ years of experience, riding, racing, building and studying motorcycle behavior to design a series of seminars on motorcycle dynamics. Foale says, “These seminars explain how tyres work, how we balance and corner, what stops us cornering faster, suspension, steering geometry, squat, braking, stability and much more.” Even factory racing teams have provided their staff members with Tony’s crystal clear understanding of suspension.

DAY 3 at the track with Dave Hodges – November 24th.Under the guidance of master suspension tuner Dave Hodges of GP Suspensions, the California Superbike School staff will be on hand to help riders sort out their bikes at Willow Springs, in Rosamond, California. Dave will have his suspension shop on wheels, trailer and all the tricks and all the technology on what to do and how to make it work.

The day will be limited to only two groups of 15 riders.Keith Code, Founder of the California Superbike School says, “That’s way too much track time and certainly more than enough to achieve a thorough understanding of suspension changes that will last a lifetime of riding. It’s going to be awesome.”

As he is locking him up, he asks, “Why in the world are you dressed like this?”

The Cowboy says “Well, it’s like this Sheriff, I was in the bar down the road and this pretty little redhead asks me to go out to her motor home with her, so I did. We go inside and she pulls off her top and asks me to pull off my shirt…so I did. Then she pulls off her skirt and asks me to pull off my pants…so I did. Then she pulls off her panties and asks me to pull off my shorts…so I did.

Then she gets on the bed and looks at me kind of sexy and says, ‘Now go to town, cowboy.’

And, here I am.”

HELMET LAW PROPOSED IN CHICAGO Motorcyclists would be required to wear helmetswhen they ride through the Windy City if local politicians get their way. Acity-wide helmet law has been proposed by Alderman Edward Burke to combat a risein fatal motorcycle accidents, and Mayor Richard Daley is backing the measurebut wants to extend the requirement to include bicycle riders and skaters.

ABATE of Illinois has cautioned the Chicago City Council to think twice aboutenacting a helmet law within its city limits, citing a 1999 law that states, “Nounit of local government, including a home-rule unit, may enact any ordinancerequiring motorcycle users to wear protective head gear.”

Ald. Burke said that if Chicago can mandate that bicycle messengers wear helmetsand bright-colored safety vests, then the city can use its sweeping home-ruleauthority to mandate that motorcycle riders wear helmets.

Mayor Daley stated that the city should do what the state legislature has failedto do, and that it should not only be a law for motorcycle riders to wear ahelmet, but that a helmet requirement should be put in insurance policies. “Youshould not get an insurance policy unless you have it,” Daley said. “How do youget insurance to ride a motorcycle without a helmet?”

“We understand that recent tragic events are spurring the city council to ‘dosomething’ about motorcycle safety,” said ABATE spokesperson Cheryl Pearre. “However, we find it unfortunate that the council has chosen to antagonize thestate’s many thousands of responsible riders with this proposed ordinance. Excessive speed, reckless driving, and alcohol all factored into the incidentsleading up to this proposed ordinance. ABATE of Illinois believes strongly thateducation and vigorous enforcement of existing traffic laws speaks more directlyto the problem of irresponsible ridership than does a helmet law.”

“In 1999, the General Assembly saw the wisdom in preempting local jurisdictionover helmet use,” continued Pearre. “If the Chicago City Council ignores thepreemption statute and passes a local helmet use ordinance, ABATE of Illinoiswill employ the legal and legislative means necessary to ensure that state lawis enforced, and that the rights of responsible motorcyclists are preserved.”

NUDE RIDER DIES DOING STUNT It’s no wonder that motorcycle fatality statisticsare on the increase when you consider the rising popularity of “extreme” streetriding, with sport bike riders performing wheelies, stoppies and other highspeed antics on public roadways, often hot-dogging for the camera. Holding ItBig Entertainment specializes in filming such street stunts, but the companypresident is now facing charges of reckless endangerment and negligent drivingstemming from a rider’s fatal wheelie. On Sept 12, 21-year-old Shaun P. Matlockof Frederick, MD died when he was performing a wheelie, riding without pants, and crashed into a tow truck parked on US 340.

Matlock’s bike and helmet bore logos reading “Holding It Big”, and the presidentof the Baltimore-based company, Benjamin M. Meacham, 22, of Frederick, wasallegedly driving in a nearby vehicle videotaping the fatal ride, and then latererased the tape before police could confiscate it. He was charged under aprovision stating that anyone who induces, causes, coerces, permits or directsanother person to commit a traffic violation also is guilty of the violation,Frederick County State’s Attorney Scott Rolle said.

Another bare-bottomed rider, Brandon M. Edwards, 21, of Ijamsville, who also wasallegedly doing wheelies for the camera, was charged Sept. 20 with recklessdriving, negligent driving, driving on a learner’s permit without the requiredsupervision, and indecent exposure.

Trooper David Ward, who investigated the case, said the only explanation he hasheard for the lack of pants was “they wanted to do something they didn’t thinkanybody had done before.”

MOTORCYCLE SALES ROARING ALONG The U.S. motorcycle industry, spurred by theimpressive success of Harley-Davidson, has grown steadily in each of the last 11years, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council. This year, it’s booming. “Sales are at an all-time-record high, all brands, all styles,” said JohnWyckoff, a longtime industry consultant who regularly calls 60 dealers a weekand says all are running 10 percent to 50 percent ahead of last year in sales.”It just took off like a flying goose,” he told the Associated Press in a recentinterview.

“I’ve been in the business all my life and I keep as close as I can to it,”Wyckoff said. “It’s a phenomenon I don’t really understand. It’s just amazing.”

According to the Motorcycle Industry Council, a not-for-profit national tradeassociation based in California, sales of new motorcycles rose 6.4 percent to996,000 in 2003.

Overall, the association’s latest estimates show the industrygenerating more than $20 billion in consumer sales and services, includingaround $7.5 billion in retail sales of new motorcycles.

“This is a generation that refuses to age. That’s at the core of this. ‘I’m notan old man or woman and here’s the proof,'” said Chick Hancock, aHarley-Davidson dealer in Albuquerque, N.M., who initially feared an oversupplywhen Harley announced it would increase production 8 percent this year. “Evenwith horrendous weather in the East, things are looking good.”

Even for motorcycles that haven’t been ridden in a while, the resale value isgoing up in the used-bike market, according to Frank Wal, who works at tradeshows for BMW. “People are looking for cheap transportation, fuel economy, thattype of thing. You’re seeing a lot more motorcycles being sold that probably satin the garage the last two or three years. It’s putting a lot more bikes on theroad.”

WEIRD NEWS OF THE MONTH: OFFICER’S DISGUSTING DISGUISE It wasn’t too difficultfor protesters at the Republican National Convention to figure out that a groupof bikers following them around were actually undercover cops, but in amisguided effort to conceal his identity, one officer wore a provocative stickeron his helmet that has led to an even louder protest. “Loud Wives Lose Lives,”was the officer’s choice of slogan, a play on a popular biker saying, but thecrowd wasn’t amused.

According to the New York Times, armed with a photo of the officer, the New YorkCivil Liberties Union has sent a letter to the police commissioner asking that”prompt action be taken” to address the matter, especially given several recentdeadly episodes of domestic violence against women in the New York region.

But to the New York Police Department, wearing the sticker was a routine part ofundercover work. “It’s like saying that an undercover narcotics officer whowears a coke spoon is promoting cocaine use when just the opposite is true,”said Paul J. Browne, the department’s chief spokesman.

It is the latest episode in the back and forth between civil libertarians andthe police as the courts wrestle with the handling of protesters before, duringand after the convention.

“It’s unfortunate that the Police Department is taking that position,” saidDonna Lieberman, the executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union.”Whatever his function, there is no excuse for a police officer on officialbusiness to be a proponent of domestic violence or other violence against women. There are other ways to disguise yourself without this hateful message.”

In their letter to the Police Department, the civil liberties lawyers asked thatthe message, and any similar ones, be removed from police equipment and thatthose responsible be disciplined.

Referring to the controversial sticker, Mr. Browne said, “Undercover officersoften adopt personas to include garb that reflects neither their personal northe department’s sentiments but to reinforce the guise that they are not policeofficers.” He added that “offensive as this saying is,” it is not uncommon in”misogynistic biker slang emblazoned on clothing, jewelry and equipment.”

In this case, though, the attempt to avoid being recognized as a police officerappears to have failed. According to one witness, a high school teacher namedMike Schwartz, the march “was followed by a group of undercover cops onmotorcycles who looked like they belonged in a bad biker movie,” highlightingthe officer with the offensive sticker.

ROBOCOP ON WHEELS The Waukee, Iowa Police Department is looking to purchase aBikeBot. The BikeBot is a robotic motorcycle cop that can be operated by remotecontrol and can speak in-sync with the operator. The BikeBot costs $5,000 andwould be used in demonstrations at area schools. A police spokesman said thatstudents react well to the machine as it is used to give safety lessons andother information.

KRYPTONITE NOT SO SUPER, MAN The U-Shaped steel locks that bikers andbicyclists have relied upon for years to thwart thieves has been picked apart, quite literally, by an Internet video that shows how to pick the most securelocks known to cyclists with a Bic pen. Just stick the non-writing end into thecylinder-shaped keyhole and twist. The New York Daily News reported that lockmaker Kryptonite is scrambling to reassure customers that it is working on asolution, and they said it will provide free product upgrades for certain lockspurchased since September 2002 and urged consumers to visit its company’sWebsite to learn how they can participate in the security upgrade program.

Although the trick apparently works on many locks with tubular cylindertechnology including vending machines, some ignitions and other securityproducts, it’s the bike industry’s best known locksmith, Kryptonite, that’sfeeling most of the heat. Industry experts say that a recall could cost tens ofmillions of dollars and would affect riders around the world.

PRISON GUARD MARRIES PRISONER–ESCAPES–Motel clerk didn’t see woman’s ‘husband’For two days, Vickie Sanford, a wanted Tennessee prison guard, and escapee Edward R. McDaniel lived as a couple at a Days Inn in El Paso, Texas. She told the hotel that she and McDaniel were married. She registered as Vickie ”Ward.”And the couple in Room 210 seemed like any other guests. But early yesterday morning, the life they ran away to ended.

Based on a tip, the U.S. Marshals Service and El Paso police swooped in on Sanford, 51, and McDaniel, 37, at the motel. The two surrendered without resistance shortly after 1 a.m., El Paso time.

They were wanted in Nashville since authorities discovered McDaniel missing from the Lois M. DeBerry Special Needs Facility on Sunday. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation put out a warrant for Sanford, a guard at the prison, a day later.

TBI officials say they think Sanford assisted in the escape of McDaniel, who was serving a 20-year sentence for the attempted first-degree murder of a West Tennessee lawman in 1996.

A Harley-Davidson and two other motorcycles stashed in a bedroom were among more than $250,000 in stolen goods recovered Tuesday in a pair of police raids targeting a theft ring, police said.

The loot was found after the Mission Valley tactical team raided two Lower Valley homes — one in the 100 block of Gaspar and the other in the 200 block of Pasodale — police said. Two men and three women were arrested.

The raids were a break in an investigation into a yearlong, citywide theft spree, said Lt. Lalo Balderrama. He stood amid stolen motorcycles, flatbed trailers, industrial equipment, Euro-style wheels, more than 40 bicycles and two deflated jumping balloons in the back lot of the Mission Valley Regional Command Center.

COURT OKS WIRETAP IN RACKERTEERING CASE–DAYTONA BEACH — Police can use wiretaps to investigate prostitution rings operated by organized crime, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

The issue was considered in an appeal by James Otte, 53, who was arrested in Deltona four years ago and charged with breaking Florida’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization statute when officials tied him to Elegant Encounters, an escort service run by his wife, Diane Fratello.

Otte, a former corrections officer at Tomoka Corrrectional Institution in Daytona Beach, was charged with racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering and deriving support from prostitution.

Fratello was sentenced to probation after a plea agreement, according to Otte’s defense lawyer, Gerard F. Keating.

Florida’s high court ruled in 1995 that police can’t tap phones to investigate prostitution. But the latest decision doesn’t overturn that case because the current case focus was more on racketeering than prostitution, Justice Raoul Cantero wrote in Thursday’s 6-1 opinion.

Keating said the case will go back to trial court. He intends to file a motion for dismissal.

HARD LINE TECH COMING–Just got finished writing this up for a friend who wanted all the details about how I ran the hard lines on my scoot. I wrote it from a plain ol guy, for plain ol guys. I figured since you post stuff from Kent and Richard I’d give it a shot. And since RFR is on the rampage about not covering anything technical it would be only the right thing to have one of his fellow Texas pals send in some tech write up LOL!

BTW I’m an engineer not a journalist, so let me know what you think. If you don’t plan on using it please let me know so I can get it out to all my HORSE buds.

HIGH SCHOOL BUILD OFF– I aminterested in getting a new class project bike goingthat would be raffled or sold off as a fund raiserfor my classes. This bike would be composed of partsdonated from different companies and built in class asa true class project build. I am thinking that wecould do a 5 or 6 or more part series of articles onBikernet and Street Chopper.

We would start out by announcingthe project and call for donations (all Taxdeductible) and then the next article would spot lightall the people who donated items towards the project.

The articles after that would show the build progressand as new parts are donated a plug for that companywould be included. The bike when finished would thenbe taken to a bike rally..the Smokeout, maybe?? We could raffle/auction or put up for sale, so people whofollowed the build could come see it, and hopefullysomeone would buy the bike. The money would then beput into the school to help support the class for muchneeded equipment. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

HUGE REMODELING BINGE IN DAYTONA–That’s the prevailing philosophy, expressed perhaps through clenched teeth, as the area’s hotel industry struggles to rebuild after hits from hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne.

All repairs must conform to modern building codes, so damaged structures will be forced to reopen with improved windows and roofs, and in some cases, upgraded landscaping and signs, according to building officials in Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach and Daytona Beach Shores.

“Everyone’s cleaning up, refurbishing, installing new carpet, new drapes, wallboard, paint and plaster,” said Bob Davis, president of the Hotel-Motel Association of Volusia County. “It’s going to take awhile, but it’s going to be accomplished and we’re going to be better for it.”

Some buildings may be completely replaced, but Davis worries that some broken-down properties might be left as eyesores for years, forcing cities to wage lengthy code enforcement battles in court to have them demolished.

The roll call of shuttered motels reads like a war casualty list.

The Adam’s Mark Daytona Beach Resort, the Acapulco Hotel and Resort, the Boardwalk Inn and Suites, the Daytona Beach Hilton Resort, the Beachcomber Oceanfront Inn, and the Seaside Inn will all remain closed for repairs past Jan. 1, Davis said.

Late fall or early winter openings are planned for the Best Western Mayan Inn, Perry’s Ocean Edge and the Palm Plaza Oceanfront Resort.

At the Best Western Mayan Inn, workers are replacing the hotel’s roof, carpeting in all 112 rooms, drywall in 30 to 35 rooms, and hauling in 50 to 60 new sets of mattresses and box springs, general manager Larry Hall said last week.

Hotel officials hope to reopen by Nov. 10 — in time for the holidays but too late for the Oct. 21-24 Biketoberfest event. Managers ruled out rushing repairs to reopen before the motorcycle event, even as other businesses are desperate to recoup Labor Day weekend revenue lost to Hurricane Frances.

Down the road, workers at the Esquire Beach Motel hope to be ready for Biketoberfest even though just 15 of the property’s 68 rooms are habitable, general manager Janet Kaiver said. The motel’s owners had been planning to remodel the motel one floor at a time, Kaiver said. The storms shot down those plans, but the good news is much of the work will be funded by the property’s insurance instead of company coffers, she said.

Permits for most repairs under way on the beachside aren’t required under emergency provisions authorized by state law. Interior repairs to water-damaged carpets and walls don’t require permits, and the emergency laws allow property owners to fix roofs, windows and doors without prior approval.

But major roofing jobs will be inspected and permitted later, and property owners are still required to hire licensed contractors for jobs that normally require permits, according to Paul McKitrick, Daytona Beach assistant city manager and former chief building official.

In Daytona Beach, structures with damage valued at more than 65 percent of the total assessed value must be upgraded to meet the city’s land development code. That code regulates the amount and type of landscaping on the property, the size and height of its signage, and how many feet from the road a building can be located. In Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach Shores, land development code compliance is required if damages exceed 50 percent of a building’s value.

BIKERNET SENT LUCKY DEVIL TO VICTORY PRESS LAUNCH–Kent, from Lucky Devil Custom Motorcycles in Houston, was assigned the Victory Hammer press pass, although Rigid Frame Richard, the Bikernet Texas Babe photographer, pitched a bitch, “I could have handled it,” Richard complained.

Office politics went all to hell as a myriad of Texas cuties called supporting RFR’s assignment attempt. “He’s cute,” they said. But Kent’s wife, Holly, called and whispered over the phone, “I’ll kick your ass if you change your mind.”

Those few words cemented my decision. And now from the Devil himself:

Mission Accomplished! I have just retuned from Austin on dispatch from Bandit to review a new model from victory for Bikernet. Victory had plenty of staff on hand to answer questions on their new model as well as therest of the ’05 line up . Then we got to the important stuff, riding the bikes!!

We suggested road course through the hill country and after lunchthey turned us loose with a road map and a request to return the bikes that evening. I made sure to put my subject through a good thrashing and even gave it the 100 mph stamp of approval!

I am working on a full story tocover the new model but for now I’ll name no names but the new model’s initials are The Hammer.

Take care, The Devil

BIKERNET CARIBBEAN REPORT–As you might already know, there was a bunch of us at the CCI dealer show in Morgan Hill, as always it was cool to be able to hang out with friends. I’m always looking at things; let’s say observing, since I have my own way to interpret certain happenings and what goes around me in general.

They put together the World custom something show, let’s say the best custom in the “world” was chosen there, I really use the word “world” very loosely. It?s cool that guys from many places were there and we got to see some bikes, cool shit that there were some Old School representation, like I have said before, those narrow tires are back, in a big way (I guess even if they are not I have said it so many times that some will start to believe me). They had an OEM class, which was won by a pretty cool Knuck, but even on the display floor, and I mean vendors, there were so many cool bobs and chops, and let’s not even talk about the hot chicks.

jose - kendra

I guess that there’s some things that go unnoticed. While I was watching the people go up on the stage to take their turn at the wheel, I noticed the people that actually went there. I saw a lot of leather, boots and the normal “biker” regalia, I mean what anyone with no experience in this “lifestyle” would consider the exact preconceived idea of what a “biker ” is. But the funny thing is, or interesting, for use of a better word, I would guess that most of these guys are old shop owners, who lived the life and wore boots even to a basketball game.

Again, when someone says the word biker, a mental image of any of those guys could easily come up, but here’s the catch, maybe we are a new breed? Besides the typical corporate guys who now own shops, since it’s very profitable and trendy, with their neatly pressed shirts and tassel shoes. I guess we are the “young” guns, mostly builders who also own shops or run very successful businesses. We have our own way of being and even wearing what we want. This is no fashion column, but maybe some will realize what I’m talking about.

Sneakers have replaced boots, leather jackets have been replaced by Ike jackets and even sweatshirts. I guess we look more like surfers, skaters, and even blue-collar workers than actual, “bikers”. Dickies and Levis are the wear of choice, t-shirts, non HD, etc. As I have been thinking about this I have also been searching for a name, still searching, mind you, one thing that is definite is that we don’t look like “bikers” at all. I guess the times are changing. Tattoos are normal, piercing as well, long hair is not looked at “that dirty hippy”, do you follow me ?

Also the bikes have gone simpler, although there’s rages that have been followed, most build bikes by a style they follow, and most ride their bikes, really beat the shit out of them.

jose n jesse rooke

There was a time when all bikes turned into customs were very similar. Today they can be at each end of the spectrum. One thing is for sure, everything seems to be simpler and much less ornate (even if it takes ten times longer to do) or you can be at a show and see bikes from knucks to the latest futuristic chop, side by side. I really don’t know how an old biker sees us, since I’m not, but I guess they are of freaking out that these urban builders have seeped thru their precious lifestyle, and are going full force. Here I will leave you, with something to ponder.

On a sadder note, my good friend Bradley the polisher had a pretty bad accident in Texas a couple days ago, he’s in ICU and we are all hoping that he makes a full recovery, as well as the girl that was riding with him. Please include them in your prayers, it really sucks that friends keep going down; I guess this is the price we pay for the way we live.

I know things at Bradley?s shop will be tight, since Bradley will be in the hospital for some time, if you have something that needs polishing, please consider his place, they will need the money, plus they do a hell of a job. The name of the shop is Hands off Polishing and the number is (972) 487-8220, also the guys at the Horse have done a page for him, it’s http://www.ironcross.net/Bradley check it out and help in what you can. Thanks.

Biketoberfest is around the corner and we will be there, riding around and just having a good time, also at the Horse show at the Last resort bar. If you see me , come and say hi.

See you next week from Biketoberfest.

TRIBUTE TO DAVID MANN–On September, 9th I called Jacquie Mann and asked her if she would wish David happy birthday on the 10th at the hospital for me. In so many words Jacquie explained to me these were Dave’s last hours. She said she would like to have him cremated and then use a bike tank as an urn.

The first image that came to my mind was a 2.25 Sportster tank painted David Mann red mounted Frisco style on a Hog backbone just like Dave’s bike. I still had a can of paint from when I painted Dave’s bike in ’97 and figured that was pretty fitting.

All I did was design it, Kenny Morris of Hot Rods ‘N Hogs in Stanton donated all of the fabrication and paint work. The backbone was one Carl at Cyclepath in Garden Grove had gotten from Chica a few years back and he sold it to me for his cost. The cherry red Baltic Birch base was made and donated by “Poor Fucking” Jim and Gene Koch from Drag Specialties donated the Landmark gas cap.

The urn will be at David Mann’s memorial held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds on December 12th. (See Complete Event Details On Bikernet) There will also be 50 of David’s original paintings on exhibit at his memorial. If a person has only seen the reproductions of David Mann’s work in Easyriders or Biker they will flip-out when they see how much intricate detail is in his live art. I can’t stress enough how important it is to see his work in person. Well that’s about it bro, I’ll see you at Dave’s memorial.

DAVE MANN ERN

THE NEWS IS TOAST–I’m always after a new finish line, and this one doesn’t exactly work. Ah, but what the hell. It’s been a strange week and something the Meanest Woman alive said to me has struck home. She bitched about all the soft spoken terms floating around, all the brotherhood comments and warm remarks, unlike the usual burn-out and broken bottle rhetoric. So let’s consider her heated demand. Since she lives on the opposite coast, I can’t gangster slap her around.

Indian Larry, a chopper icon, died recently, David Mann, the ultimate biker artist and friend passed, Ray Charles slipped away, we’re at war and it doesn’t seem to be doing anyone any good. We have friends and neighbors risking their lives daily in the hot sands of Iraq. The entire world hates our guts, and Florida is permanently flooded. Alligators have taken over the swamps from New Orleans to Jose’s Puerto Rico. Then today a girl, named Lori, called.

She’s Wino Joe’s daughter. Wino Joe was the finest outlaw biker photographer to straddle a Sportster. He’s a nomad Gypsy Joker and a man with more heart than… Well, you get the picture. Yesterday he had a massive heart attack and a stroke. He can’t speak and is currently hospitalized. Finally Bradley and Cheryl, from Texas, were snagged in a terrible bike accident and hospitalized.

The brotherhood flows when the times are tough. We need to reach out to others when brothers are down, life is unsure and tomorrow is just a roll of the dice. Many of the wild men of our industry are getting older an some are fading away. It’s only during these times, that we are snatched from the daily grind, from bitching about the price of chrome and gaudy paint jobs, to reflect on the past, on brotherhood and friends.

I gotta go, I need to find out how Wino Joe is doing. Oh, I’m looking for a saucy little Mexican girl to help around the shop.

Have a terrific weekend.

Ride Forever,

SCREAMIN’ EAGLE DRAG TEAM ADVANCES TO SEMI-FINALS IN READING–Andrew Hines Stays on Top in Pro Stock Bike Points Race.

MOHNTON, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2004) – Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines drag racing team riders GT Tonglet and Andrew Hines qualified for the Sunday Pro Stock Bike elimination rounds at the 20th Annual Lucas Oils NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway. Hines advanced to the semi-final round of eliminations and now holds a 131-point lead in season points with two Pro Stock Bike events left on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule. The event at Maple Grove Raceway took place this weekend after being postponed by rain on its original starting date, Sept. 16.

“We made it as far as the semi-final round again today, but the Screamin’ Eagle team has stayed consistent all season and it’s consistency that wins championships,” said Hines. “I’d sure like to take home another win this season, but we leave Maple Grove with the points lead and that’s what matters right now.”

Four rounds of qualifying on Friday and Saturday pared a field of 25 riders down to 16 qualifiers for Sunday eliminations. Hines qualified in third position with a run of 7.089 at 193.57 mph, the fastest speed posted during the event. Tonglet qualified 14th with a 7.179/187.96 run. Antron Brown led all qualifiers with a 7.057/187.57 pass.

The order of qualifying forced Hines and Tonglet to face off in the first round of eliminations. Tonglet was first off the line with a 0.038 reaction time to 0.062 for Hines, but Hines throttled his Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod to a run of 7.168/187.21 to beat Tonglet’s 7.897/127.94.

In round two, Hines (7.140/187.99) defeated Karen Stoffer (7.199/178.61) to advance to the semi-final round for the sixth consecutive event this season. Hines (7.149/191.05) lost to Angelle Savoie (7.053/190.19) in the semi-final. Savoie (7.018/191.29) defeated her U.S. Army teammate, Antron Brown (7.047/184.35), to take the win in the final round.

“The Screamin’ Eagle team won some rounds and kept Andrew out front in points,” said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso. “We’ve faced some challenges this season but Byron Hines and his crew have stayed steady and we keep getting closer to that championship.”

With two Pro Stock Bike events left on the schedule, Hines leads Brown by 131 points for the season championship. After 13 of 15 rounds, Hines has 1,114 points, followed by Brown with 983 points. With her win at Maple Grove, Savoie moves up to third place with 938 points, followed by Shawn Gann with 871 and Craig Treble with 842 points. Tonglet is sixth with 726 points.

The next Pro Stock Bike event on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series is the 4th AnnualAC Delco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Oct. 28-31, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas.

The Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Pro Stock Bike team is sponsored by Dunlop, Ford Quality Checked Certified Pre-Owned, Matco Tools and S100.

TECH QUESTION AND ANSWER FROM S&S–I read your article on Evo flywheels in a Shovelhead. I am building a old 1966 flat side Shovelhead. I know I will have to change the pinion and sprocket shafts to match my cases. What year Evo wheels will adapt to my cases? Are the Evo wheels the same diameter?

Thanks for the tips.

–Glenn

Response from James Simonelli at S&S.’85 & early 86 are the only ones that will work. You need special shafts. They are available from JIMS. You can use an S&S design sprocket shaft also, but the flywheel has no keyway. They are 8.5″ diameter, same as stock.

CANADIAN WINS FIRST OFFICIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF CUSTOM BIKE BUILDING– Morgan Hill, California, October 9th 2004.

THE first annual Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building has been won by Roger Goldammer of British Colombia, Canada. The noted parts engineer (www.goldammercycle.com) and motorcycle craftsman demonstrated a level of attention to detail and dedication to excellence that had judges, fellow competitors and event visitors alike drooling over his exquisite homage to boardtrack racers of old.

Goldammer carried off the cut-glass trophy, diamond-and-sapphire Championship ring, and $25,000 cash top prize in the freestyle class of the World Championship by the narrowest of margins.

The independent panel of judges drawn from the US and European motorcycle Press placed Jesse Jurrens and Michael Prugh of Independent Cycle, Rapid City, South Dakota second, with Belgian builder Fred ‘Krugger’ Bertrand third.

The contest, widely described by competitors and judges alike as the highest standard custom bike competition any of them had ever seen, attracted 64 entries in total, across three classes, with 47 of them in the prestigious Freestyle class from which the World Champion was chosen.

The number of entries far exceeded the organisers’ expectations and featured an extraordinary variety of custom bike design styles and motorcycle engineering innovations.Superb choppers were on show, but far from dominating the competition, the event demonstrated and reflected the glorious individualism and multiple strands of custom motorcycle engineering that have resulted in the sector achieving unprecedented levels of public exposure and popularity worldwide in recent years.

As befitting the name and ambition of the contest, the top ten Freestyle entries reflected the truly international nature of the custom v-twin industry, with five Americans, two Germans, a Canadian, a Belgian and a Frenchman taking the top spots. The AMD ProShow competition that constitutes the Official World Championship was presented and generously supported by Global Motorsports Group custom V-twin sector parts distributor Custom Chrome at its 18th annual Dealer Show at Morgan Hill, California.Watch out for further news releases and pictures as they become available, with comprehensive reports, features and details of winners and entrants of all classes being placed in the World Championship registry in the event web site at www.amdproshow.com as soon after the conclusion of the event as possible.

We were hittin it like a crazed blue collar ghetto race team compared to most. Bike had good power but for shit traction.

Had to break down and buy a new M/T rear race tire Sunday morning. Haul ass to the tire trailer and mount it. Then thrashed like crazy, adjusting clutch, make a jet change etc. to make the first round call. Missed moving up by .030 sec!!! That’s racin. Drag racin anyways.

Rick a old buddy of mine from the Phoenix/Titan days was doin his Pro Stock thing. Very cool to see him doing well. Been tearing up the strip all year long. His wife Krista is the crew chief. Great people.

Off to Phoenix the end of Oct. for some R&R. Don’t have a schedule yet, would like to make it to the coast. May not have enough time though. E-mail you later on the Dis. show

MAN CONVICTED OF MURDER FOR RUNNING OVER BIKERS IN PANHANDLE–PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) – A jury recommended against the death penalty Friday for an Arkansas man who ran over six Michigan Outlaws motorcyclists with a stolen pickup truck, killing two of the bikers.

Jurors deliberated only three minutes before opting for life in prison without parole, the only alternative to death for Timothy Pilgreen on two premeditated murder charges.

The same jury Thursday found him guilty of two murder charges, four counts of attempted murder and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Circuit Judge Don T. Sirmons will sentence him Oct. 15. Sirmons is not bound by the jury’s recommendation but must give it great weight.

Following an altercation with the bikers at a fishing pier, Pilgreen killed Donald Dunham, 61, and his wife, Nola S. Zeitler, 47, of the Outlaws’ Bay City, Mich., chapter on Oct. 29 as they were riding on a motorcycle at nearby Panama City Beach.

MONSTER GARAGE CHOPPER BUILD WAS COOL– I caught your act on the tube the other night and I must say I really enjoyed it. It was good to see other old farts still building them the old fashioned way. I don’t often like the new breed of chopper, but this is still America. Everybody can ride what they like.

I have been fortunate to ride what I please for some 35 years of miles and smiles. I have been blessed with some great brothers in that time. Some of those are no longer with us, but they ride with me in my heart.

From what I have seen of you over the years, (in the magazines) I have often thought that we have similar tastes in bikes.

The last time I saw Rip Rose here in Lousiana, you and your bikes were one of the things we talked about. I saw the 5-Ball bike last year at Strokers and just loved it. I was amazed at the number of people that passed right by it to go drool on the billet barges up front. The guy behind the counter was tickled that I had spotted it and we became instant buddies.

I like your VL and maybe one day I can show you the picture of my mom on hers in 1944. I’m glad you are still doing your thing. Keep it up!

BUELL’S LIGHTNING CITYX– A NEW release from Buell, the Lightning CityX XB9SX, is available now.Buell claims that the combination of mid-range power and agile handling make the CityX the ultimate streetfighter and the ideal machine for commuting and urban riding.

The CityX also has a new slant on the Naked Bike style.A translucent plastic gives the airbox and flyscreen a distinctive blue color while leaving the mechanical parts within still visible. The combination of black cast wheels and the same color for the lower body panels is both for style and practicality. The color is said to camouflage urban grime.

Other styling details include the handlebar deflectors, headlight grille and the X guard for the airbox. The seat and handlebar relationship gives the rider an upright position and thus good visibility in traffic.

The engine is the Buell Thunderstorm 948cc fuel-injected V-twin engine.Claimed output is 83bhp and more than 63ftlb of torque. The powertrain is installed in a Buell Lightning chassis, complete with Showa suspension.

This results in a bike with the ultimate in agility combining a short wheelbase with steep steering angle and a short trail for sharp steering.

Other definitive Buell styling cues embodied in the CityX include the fuel contained in the frame; the swing arm that doubles as an oil reservoir and the muffler tucked under the engine.Continued into 2005, the Buell range also offers the Lightning XB12S and Firebolt XB12R.

STEALTH REPORT FROM N.C.–I would like to start off this week by congratulating Mr. Bandit on the great bike build on Monster Garage. The bike turned out great and the mini interviews with all the participants were great!

This past week has been kind of slow and for me personally it has been a week of personal bull at work. I think it may be time for me to roll the dice on this one and see how it plays out. After awhile it seems you wear out your welcome on jobs. Oh well, life goes on!

One thing I came across this past week at a local Wal-Mart that just opened here, you know one of those where you can get your oil changed while you shop and then eat lunch all in the same place.I was looking around in there and I came across a whole section devoted to West Coast Choppers and O.C.C. and even Monster Garage apparel. They even had other shirts that featured the Iron Cross. It is funny how at one time I thought the Iron Cross was a symbol used to piss authority off and now it seems that it is just the “COOL” thing to wear.

It was funny seeing all the WCC and OCC shirts there, it reminded me of when I first got into bikes and started hanging out with a few guys who owned bikes, they would always tell me “You don’t wear the shirts unless you have the bike!” I took that advice to heart and never wore the t-shirts until the day I picked up my Sportster. I guess all of that has changed too! It is cool now to look and dress like someone who rides even if you do not own a bike. One good thing about this is that if you want to buy any of this stuff, the prices were less than anywhere I have seen.

Another thing I came across in the toy department was all the West Coast Chopper replica toys, from trucks and cars to bikes. Now I have to admit these are pretty cool! All of this just goes to show how big of an impact the Discovery Channel shows have had.

One last little tid-bit, My son Blair and I went to lunch together Tuesday, the day after Monster Garage. I was wearing my Bikernet t-shirt and a guy comes up to me and says “I saw that t-shirt on Monster Garage last night, the big guy was wearing it, Do you know him?” I just smiled and said “Yeah I know him!” Mr. Bandit you made us all proud!

Ride down to your local Wal-Mart and check out all the “COOL” biker stuff!

Until next week!

MONSTER GARAGE AND MEMORIES–I missed the show before your’s with the gorilla. A friend of mine from Florida was on that one.

I did watch your deal from start to finish and enjoyed it. The $5,000 premise was a kind of a joke, but they gotta make a show that America can suck up. The open primary made me flash back to the first time we met. El Monte, courthouse, you had like a chain link fence over a pretty much, open chain primary… Least that’s how I remember it. I’m teaching myself how to speak Spanish by watching Mexican TV. I’ll talk to you later.

BUFFALO CHIP AT BIKETOBERFEST AT THE SPEEDWAY–This really IS going to be interesting. I’ve gone to the Buffalo Chip events. I wonder if the speedway is planning to check id’s at the gate because this is like a biker drunk fest held at a nudist resort. I’ve enjoyed them in the past, but I would never take my kids to them. I never took them to topless bars, either, so I can’t say what other parents let their kids do. Like Naknek said…”Family event…….in your dreams”.

If the speedway thinks they can change the nature of this event and control what goes on, they’re crazy and the people that believe that are clueless.

This is NOT for teenagers. The drinking age is 21 in this state so the speedway will have to limit this party to 21 and over because there is no way they will be able to control who drinks and who doesn’t. I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Think about it people……..would you want your teenage daughter taking part in the pickle eating contest? If you don’t know what that is, ask someone that has been to Sturgis or use your imagination. lol

BIKETOBERFEST TAN WARNING– A man was laying on his back and fell asleep on the beach under thenoon day sun. He suffered a severe sunburn to his legs. He was takento the hospital. His skin had turned a bright red and was verypainful and had started to blister. Anything that touched his legscaused agony. The doctor prescribed continued intravenous feedingsof water and electrolytes, a mild sedative and Viagra.

Rather astounded, the nurse inquired, “What good will Viagra do himin that condition?”

The doctor replied, “It will keep the sheets off of his legs.”

AGENT ZEBRA RETURNS TO BIKERNET AND ENTERTAINS JAY LENO–Watch for his skit on the Tonight show and for his tale of makin’ a Biker movie on Bikernet next week.

MONSTER GARAGE AND BIKERNET– Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how fun (as aviewer) you made the build. It took ALL of you, not just a few to make thatbike, and it was nice, so don’t play it down that all you did was “sweep thefloors”.

When I saw you and your “Profile”, I told the wife that it was “Bandit”, andit was like I actually knew you, because of how much reading I do at work andat home on Bikernet!! LOL!!

Keep up the good work. Who knows, maybe you’ll be back for #100!!

Great job!!
