Kickstands for lowered FLs by Pingel

Bikernet spotted this clever new product at V-Twin Expo. Check it out!

With the newer Harley-Davidson’s and their taller seat heights, have you considered lowering the front and rear to get better handling with your bike?   If you have, you need a kickstand that will work and keep your bike upright safely because the stock kickstand will lean the bike to the right too much and it will want to fall over.   Pingel Enterprise, Inc. has designed 2 kickstand models for lowered bikes with a model for 1” lowered front and rear bikes and one for 2” lowered front and 1” lowered rear bikes.   These kickstands are handcrafted in the USA, made of steel, tig welded and beautifully hand polished and then chrome plated.  They are designed to mount to the stock mount and will accept the stock spring.  Unlike the stock H-D kickstand, these models have a large surface foot pad contact area to support the bike better on the ground.  The kick tab is also easily accessible for use with stock and oversized primary covers.   Pingel also has a stock replacement model which has a lesser lean angle to make it easier to get the heavy bike off its kickstand.  To be used with the Pingel 1” rear lowering kits.

Go to Pingel to see this and many more products for your motorcycle.

Arizona Bikers jam Capitol for profiling bill hearing

A hearing room filled with patch-wearing motorcycle club members broke out in cheers Wednesday as an Arizona Senate committee passed a bill requiring police to take training highlighting a ban on profiling of motorcyclists by law enforcement officers.

The unusual sight at the state Capitol was prompted by a bill attempting to address complaints from motorcycle club members who say they're frequently stopped by police for no legitimate reason. Republican Sen. Judy Burges of Sun City West is the sponsor.

Ken Mei of Phoenix, president of the local chapter of the Peckerwoods Motorcycle Club, said the treatment he and his fellow members receive from police makes it obvious they're being singled out.

"The other day me and a friend of mine were out riding our motorcycles, and we got pulled over by a highway patrolmen, two city (of) Phoenix policemen and a helicopter," Mei said after the hearing ended. "We didn't receive any citations, anything. They basically wanted to know about our patches."

Motorcycle Sales Among Leading Brands Up in 2012

The Motorcycle Industry Council reports that retail sales increased 2.6 percent last year among 19 leading manufacturers tracked by the trade association. And for the first time since 2002, all four segments (scooter, dual, on-highway and off-highway) showed increases in year-over-year new unit sales, according to the MIC's Retail Sales Report.

Scooters posted the most significant rate of growth with an increase of 7.7 percent, while dual-purpose motorcycles also showed impressive growth with a rise of 7.4 percent. Off-highway motorcycle sales were up 2.1 percent, while sales of their on-highway counterparts improved by 1.8 percent.

"The MIC is optimistic about this increase in motorcycle and scooter sales," said MIC President and CEO Tim Buche. "In spite of some challenging economic times, the sales of used motorcycles has also increased. Though revenue is not reported to MIC, the major aftermarket distributors have acknowledged strong demand and increased sales as well. Further, we know that Americans are still enjoying themselves a great deal on bikes as tire sales have increased over the past 3 years. Estimated vehicle miles travelled were 29 billion in 2009, an increase of eight billion miles since 2003. All of this signals that motorcycling is an increasingly mainstream mode of transportation and fun."

The Motorcycle Industry Council exists to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling through government relations, communications and media relations, statistics and research, aftermarket programs, development of data communications standards, and activities surrounding technical and regulatory issues. As a not-for-profit, national industry association, the MIC seeks to support motorcyclists by representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts and accessories, and members of allied trades such as insurance, finance and investment companies, media companies and consultants.

The MIC is headquartered in Irvine, Calif., with a government relations office in metropolitan Washington, D.C. First called the MIC in 1970, the organization has been in operation since 1914. Visit the MIC at www.mic.org.

V-TWIN EXPO REPORT ON BIKERNET

Even before the V-Twin Expo opened there were comments from some people about the changes scheduled for first weekend in February, 2013. You’re not going to please everyone all the time, so in my opinion I would please the vendors, as they are the ones the show was designed for. Actually it was concocted because no show ever gave the V-Twin market the respect they deserved.  Read Roque's report on the event last weekend.
