Yesterday, I walked to the Deadwood Rec center for my Wednesday Workout. As I stepped off the tall, frozen metal steps a Softail rolled into the gas station/liquor store, the Pack Horse station. It might reach 50 degrees and a low of 25.
I walked over to the rider and said, “Where the fuck do you think you’re going?”
He said, “Nowhere.” He was just warming his bikes, charging batteries and making sure they were running properly. I wanted to ride my Indian to the dealership in Sturgis, but there’s still slippery ice on every corner. Still, the desire was there. It snowed last night.

2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS Coming on January 26

Despite all the troubles of 2020, or thanks to them, the motorcycle world enjoyed a hell of a ride last year. Harley-Davidson had it particularly hard, Ducati rolled like a champ with several high-profile releases, and Triumph, well, the Brits contended to planting the seeds that would make 2021 a year to remember.
And for them, it will all start on January 26, when the bike maker will be presenting the new iteration of the Speed Triple 1200 RS, the bad boy of the motorcycle family born all the way back in 1994. The news broke earlier this week thanks to a very short video posted on Youtube to tease the unveiling.
“All-new in every dimension the Speed Triple 1200 RS will deliver an absolute revolution in terms of Speed Triple power, performance, handling and technology, for the ultimate performance naked sports ride,” Triumph says about the newcomer. “Join us for the live reveal of the new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS and be part of the revolution.”
The video (attached below) is literally unrevealing from a visual standpoint, showing nothing but a sketchy outline of the bike and a front end shot. What we do get to experience is the sound the bike will make while revved, something we’ll probably hear when customers will finally get to experience it.
What to expect, then? Well, if we are to trust both what Triumph is saying but also the way it did things these past few years, you should look forward to the Speed Triple 1200 RS having perhaps the most powerful engine offered for the range since forever, as well as some styling changes meant to differentiate from what came before in the range. At the same time, it should build on the design of the new, lighter Street Triple sibling.
As we approach the reveal date, keep an eye out for possible leaks about the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS.
King of the Baggers Returns in 2021 With 5 Races

Last year, the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca was host to a race between baggers for the first time. The event was part of the first-of-its-kind Drag Specialties King of the Baggers event, and this year it’s all coming back with a vengeance.
The 2020 event was a major hit, as it was watched online in massive numbers, with millions tuning in for the show.
“The popularity of the event was crazy so how could we not do more? We know there are plenty of Bagger fans out there as our videos of the debut Laguna event were watched by millions,” said in a statement MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey.
So, this year we’ll be enjoying the event five-fold. The series will be held in conjunction with the 2021 MotoAmerica HONOS Superbike Series, kicking off at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on April 30.
Then the newborn series will burn through Road America, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, and Pittsburgh International Race Complex before coming to an end at Barber Motorsports Park in September.
“Having five races gives us the opportunity to bring King of the Baggers to fans in several different areas of the country. We’ve also opted to make the series open to any qualified racer, which should bring new teams and new bike builds to the series from the aftermarket and motorcycle dealers who specialize in baggers,” Rainey added.
For now, it is too early to say who will be taking part in the coming races, but we reckon most of those present at last year’s event will be on the starting grid once more.
The already-held bagger race ended with Indian taking the win with an S&S- and Roland Sands-prepped Challenger ridden by Tyler O’Hara. A second Challenger, ridden by Frankie Garcia, finished in third position. They both had to fight off a pack of 11 Harley-Davidsons.

I wish I knew what to make out of anything. I spoke to an old friend who is a criminal attorney in Los Angeles. He also owns a lot in Sturgis. We kicked around a few things and the conversation roamed to the Covid situation. He had a case set for sentencing in Philadelphia and was faced with flying. He couldn’t stand the thought so he drove out.
“Philly did not go well,” Rob said. “This was my second case in front of the same Federal Judge there. The first one was a great victory. The second one, not so much. Will tell you the whole saga over beer or Jack Daniels.”

And of course, we are told that invisible CO2 from using fossil fuels, accounting for more than 80 percent of our energy supply, will make the Earth too hot for life.
All of these scare stories, and many more, are simply not true. And this book will convince you, your family, and your colleagues of that. There is no substitute for the truth.
Dr. Patrick Moore was one of the co-founders of Greenpeace and sailed on the first Greenpeace campaign against US H-bomb tests in Alaska. Upon receiving his PhD in ecology, he spent 15 years in the top committee of Greenpeace and led many of its environmental campaigns.
Greenpeace began as a group of volunteers with noble intentions. Over the years it became very successful with campaigns to save the whales, stop the mass slaughter of baby seals, prevent toxic dumping into the air, water and earth, and many more.
Greenpeace found itself in the early 1980s with more than $100 million coming in annually and close to 1,000 people on the payroll. It had become a business and fundraising moved to the top of the priority list.
New campaigns were more about using sensationalism, misinformation and fear to attract donations. Dr. Moore said good-bye in 1986 as Greenpeace was turning into a racket peddling junk science.
Since then, he has strived to be a sensible environmentalist, basing his beliefs on sound science and logical thinking. This book is the culmination of 50 years of learning during Dr. Moore’s multi-faceted quest for the truth about environmental issues (an historical account of Dr. Moore’s 15 years with Greenpeace and his analysis of environmental subjects are in his previous book, “Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout – The Making of a Sensible Environmentalist, also on Amazon).

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY HISTORY LESSON–Crazy Horse fights last battle
On January 8, 1877, Oglala Lakota warrior Crazy Horse and his men—outnumbered, low on ammunition and forced to use outdated weapons to defend themselves—fight their final losing battle against the U.S. Cavalry in Montana.
Six months earlier, in the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Crazy Horse and his ally, Sitting Bull, led their combined forces of Sioux and Cheyenne to a stunning victory over Lieutenant Colonel George Custer (1839-76) and his men. The Native Americans were resisting the U.S. government’s efforts to force them back to their reservations.
After Custer and over 200 of his soldiers were killed in the conflict, later dubbed “Custer’s Last Stand,” the American public wanted revenge. As a result, the U.S. Army launched a winter campaign in 1876-77, led by General Nelson Miles (1839-1925), against the remaining tribes on the Northern Plains.
Combining military force with diplomatic overtures, Nelson convinced many Native Americans to surrender and return to their reservations. Much to Nelson’s frustration, though, Sitting Bull refused to give in and fled across the border to Canada, where he and his people remained for four years before finally returning to the U.S. to surrender in 1881. Sitting Bull died in 1890. Meanwhile, Crazy Horse and his band also refused to surrender, even though they were suffering from illness and starvation.
On January 8, 1877, General Miles found Crazy Horse’s camp along Montana’s Tongue River. U.S. soldiers opened fire with their big wagon-mounted guns, driving the Native Americans from their warm tents out into a raging blizzard.
Crazy Horse and his warriors managed to regroup on a ridge and return fire, but most of their ammunition was gone, and they were reduced to fighting with bows and arrows. They managed to hold off the soldiers long enough for the women and children to escape under cover of the blinding blizzard before they turned to follow them.
Though he had escaped decisive defeat, Crazy Horse realized that Miles and his well-equipped cavalry troops would eventually hunt down and destroy his cold, hungry followers. On May 6, 1877, Crazy Horse led approximately 1,100 Native Americans to the Red Cloud reservation near Nebraska’s Fort Robinson and surrendered. Five months later, a guard fatally stabbed him after he allegedly resisted imprisonment by policemen.
In 1948, American sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski began work on the Crazy Horse Memorial, a massive monument carved into a mountain in South Dakota. Still a work in progress, the monument will stand 641 feet high and 563 feet long when completed.

TRIBUTE RIDE FOR A BROTHER–
17 years of brotherhood are now memories with one ALR brother riding the silent highway, watching over his brothers and sisters of American Legion Post 104 in Pinellas Park, Florida.
Butch recalled how Jody Hall was an all-around “Wildman” and best brother you could ever ask for. Loves of his life included his family/wife, motorcycles, and his brothers and sisters. Jody was always known to be there for anyone in need. This sentiment is echoed by the ALR and extended Post family.
Jody was a charter member of the ALR Post 104, and Sgt-At-Arms, and retired after 23 years in the Air Force – Security Forces/LE and service to the country he loved. After all of his years of distinguished service to the USA, he became an unfortunate statistic of PTSD.
The remaining Post 104 family is channeling their forces to make the Second Annual Jody Hall Memorial Ride, a celebration of his life, and bring awareness to Veterans Suicide Prevention.

Capital and capitol are both commonly used in political contexts and are separated by just one letter, making them frustratingly easy to confuse.
When it comes to these two terms, it’s important to note that one has a number of meanings while the other refers to a certain type of building.
Capital has many definitions. It can mean “the wealth owned or employed in business by an individual, firm, corporation, etc.”; and it can mean “principal; highly important,” as in safety was their capital concern. Also, it can mean “uppercase letter.”
But the capital that gives most people trouble is this one: “the city or town that is the official seat of government in a country or state,” as in the capital of California is Sacramento or the capital of the United States is Washington, DC.
Capitol also has to do with government, but it is more specific: capitol is defined as “a building occupied by a state legislature.” When the word Capitol is capitalized, it refers to the United States Capitol, a building in Washington, DC, that hosts Congress, the legislative branch of the US federal government.
Both capital and capitol are derived from the Latin root caput, meaning “head.” Capital evolved from the words capitalis, “of the head,” and capitale, “wealth.” Capitol comes from Capitolium, the name of a temple (dedicated to Jupiter, the Roman equivalent of the Greek god Zeus) that once sat on the smallest of Rome’s seven hills, Capitoline Hill.
Because capital and capitol are so close in spelling, it can be challenging to remember which word denotes what. As a mnemonic trick, consider the importance of the letter O in capitol. NEWS FROM THE TWISTED ROAD–Member Spotlight: Q&A with Santa Margarita Motorcyclist, Ashley M.
Ashley M. shares tales of packing up and rolling out. Whether with big groups like The Litas and Babes Ride Out or just Ashely and two friends—this intrepid motorcyclist keeps her eye out for an adventure on the road and on the water.
Tell us about your riding experience. How long have you been riding, and how many bikes have you owned? How did you first become interested in riding?
My love for two wheels started at the age of ten when I got my first dirt bike. I wanted a cruiser since the movie Wild Hogs came out and got my first cruiser, the new Honda Rebel 500 just two years ago. My Rebel has taken me on the best adventures, such as Babes Ride Out, Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and even down to Mexico. Living in San Diego, California is a privilege because I get to ride year-round and my bike is my daily commuter.
Have you taken any long moto trips? Tell us about them – where did you go, where did you stay, who did you ride with?
My first long motorcycle trip was for Babes Ride Out 7, from San Diego to Santa Margarita, CA. Lucky me, I was able to join the San Diego Litas. Riding through the stopped traffic of LA wasn’t fun, and then we had to ride through some fires—which made breathing with a helmet hard—but once we passed that it was an amazing ride. We did some motorcycle camping at the site for BRO so packing up to carry everything on the bike was a fun challenge.
From Santa Margarita, we took a day trip to Big Sur on Highway 1, and crossed that off my bucket list. My second long moto trip was from San Diego to Yosemite with 2 good friends of mine. Riding through Yosemite is just jaw-droppingly amazing. We were boon-docking just a few minutes south of the entrance to Yosemite, a motorcycle-approved spot where we later saw other bikers show up to camp.
After a few days of exploring beautiful Yosemite, we wandered south into Sequoia National Forest where the twisties were twisties alright. Our trip ended with a ride home on good ol’ Route 66.
Tell us some more about you – where do you live? What kind of work do you do?
Me, I live in (Sunny) San Diego, California. And when I’m not out on my bike, I’m out in my Jeep Wrangler hitting some trails, and camping. For a living, I administrate a marina. So yes, spending every day by the ocean has also opened my interest in sailing and I participate in a sailing race every month.
What are your hobbies – what do you enjoy doing when you’re not riding?
I would say my main hobby is riding. I ride every chance I get, and having a close group of friends who ride has helped with that. However, I’m still a desert rat. I love to go out to the desert with my Jeep and have some fun on trails and go camping. If I’m not riding or out in the desert in my Jeep then I’m kayaking or jet skiing or sailing. I like to try new things, especially anything that feeds me an adrenaline rush.
I think Twisted Road is awesome and I can see it growing a lot in the future. I’ve told a group of friends about Twisted Road and we’re planning a motorcycle camping trip next year, and are looking to rent ADV bikes. I have also listed my personal bike for rent on the site. The community seems caring and passionate and I’m a big fan of the Twisted Road Blog.
My favorite rides near home is quite a list. From San Diego to Anza Borrego, Julian, Temecula. For Something closer to San Diego I always recommend riding over the Coronado bridge down the Silver Strand to Imperial Beach. Riding to Otay Lake Road or down the 94 towards the 8. For something in the neighborhood, Balboa Park or Harbor Island.
I hope to ride everywhere one day. Lately, I’ve been thinking about Hawaii—renting a bike out there and exploring the islands.

WASHINGTON, D.C. ACTION FROM THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION–This month, the Washington, D.C. based, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (AHAS) released their 2021 state traffic safety rankings(Report). The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is troubled that the methodology used in studying motorcycle safety takes the flawed view that safer crashes are better than no crashes.
The MRF has long believed that proper safety training of motorcyclists and education of other motorists is the most effective tool in protecting all roadway users. The MRF remains committed to working with our partners in the public and private sectors to ensure properly trained instructors impart skills that have a track record of creating safer riders.
Additionally, the AHAS report takes direct aim at the over 30 states that have freedom of choice helmet laws. Recent studies show the state with the highest motorcycle fatality rate (Mississippi) has a mandatory helmet law, while the state with the lowest fatality rate (Montana) does not require a helmet for those over 18 years old.
In fact, the AHAS study shows that 61% of motorcyclists killed were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. It should also be noted that the absence of a requirement does not prohibit someone from choosing to wear a helmet. The MRF firmly believes that any attempt at a federal helmet mandate or blackmail techniques designed to coerce states into enacting a helmet law is unacceptable.
MRF President Kirk “Hardtail” Willard, put it simply, “Encroachment on our personal freedoms and attacks on individual state laws goes against the foundational principles of this country.” He added, “We all agree that deaths on our roadways are tragic but surrendering our freedoms in pursuit of safety is a dangerous path.”

AND SACRAMENTO AUTORAMA CANCELED FOR 2021–Rod Shows, producer of the Grand National Roadster Show and Sacramento Autorama, has canceled both events scheduled to be held in 2021. The events will return in 2022.
Rod Shows, producer of the Grand National Roadster Show and Sacramento Autorama, has been closely monitoring the current coronavirus outbreak and the government regulations made as a result. Due to the lack of clear guidelines from the state on how and when events can resume, Rod Shows has made the very tough decision to cancel the Sacramento Autorama and the Grand National Roadster Show in 2021.
“While we would love nothing more than to host both events again this year, we can’t plan for something that is out of our control,” said John Buck, producer of the Grand National Roadster Show and Sacramento Autorama. “We have instead decided to focus our efforts on 2022 where we can again join in celebrating the amazing cars and car people who are the heart of our community.”
Despite the lack of an event this year, Rod Shows extends its deepest gratitude to event sponsors, vendors, participants and fans, without whom this tradition would not exist. Show staff expect a full return of both events in 2022.

Mental Health Treatment Options at VA–
Speaker 1:
The first time I ever reached out for help was to a VA facility. My PTSD was discovered by a psychologist. They talked with me, not at me. The treatment’s slowly improving my mental perspective, certain things was less stressful if I follow a procedure that was recommended by healthcare professionals.
Speaker 2:
There was one on one therapy involved, there was CBT of course, there was writing therapy. The cognitive behavioral aspect of it led me to understand my triggers, it led me to understand where I had gotten sidetracked and gave me a path through it. Through self-evaluation, through group discussion where I could really bring it out into the open and deal with it for the first time in my entire life.
Speaker 3:
The yearlong rehab program that I was in was high intensity as far as when you were going through the alcohol recovery program. When you get in and you get into one of their programs, they really take interest in you and they really are concerned about what you’re about to go through. There are people out there that devote their lives to the service of other human beings. All three of my children talk to me now. We talk at least once a week to each other. It means everything in the world to me. I have my family back.

When I got treatment at Cape Canaveral and was diagnosed with adrenal anxiety disorder, the doctor offered me a couple of different options for treatment. One of the treatments the doctor offered was cognitive behavioral therapy, CBT. Another he offered me was a prescription drug called Lexapro.
Deciding at the time that frequent treatments in person for CBT would be difficult with my job as a commander, I opted to go with the medicine and I was so impressed how two or three months later my wife came up to me and said honey, I’ve noticed such a difference, and again it happens so slow and I just think I haven’t changed. But it’s the people around you, the people who are most affected by my mental health were noticing the differences.
Speaker 5:
They had got me started on something called EMDR. The main way to do it is they’ll hold something up and you’ll talk about your troubling past like that soldier that died, and you’ll have to follow it with your eye while you’re talking it. And it helps regulate your right side and your left side of the brain while you’re doing it.
Well it works best for me ’cause I’ll just go and people will think I’m crossing my arm and I’m tapping both sides while I’m talking about it. And usually I’m like this and people think I’m just pissed off, but it’s how I deal with troubling situations to this day now.
Speaker 6:
Group therapy is great because if somebody’s thinking a certain way, another person may see another way to problem solve. Just the things that treatment has taught me through the VA and how to handle my anxiety and my fear and understand why I did the things I did. I don’t know, the VA, I can’t say enough for the treatment that they’ve offered, in patient as well as the outpatient programs that I’m still in and will continue to be in until I feel comfortable leaving.
Speaker 4:
So, after that first visit once you get a chance to sit down with a therapist you realize all they wanna do is help. They wanna listen to what’s going on in your life, they wanna tell you this is not exceptional, this happens to a lot of people. And they wanna offer you solutions to help.
Speaker 2:
There are legitimate ways to heal and there are people out there who genuinely care and will listen and help you. It’s really an awakening experience. So, allow yourself to deal with it.
SUPPORT BIKER LIVES MATTER–It is the first week of 2021 and I would like to let everyone know Biker Lives Matter is still here and looking forward to a productive year with your help.
During 2020 we did get a lot accomplished like doubling our membership, had meetings and correspondence with members of Motorcycle Rights Groups and individuals on pending concerns to motorcyclist. We also shared a lot of information on what was going on in different states around the country, with reports coming back in many cases that it was a success.
I was also able to talk to many people in government positions about Motorcycle Safety and especially about increasing penalties for Right Of Way Violations. I will be following up more on this during the year.
The Covid issue did limit some of the setting up of a booth at motorcycle events though we did some being careful. Hopefully we will be able to do that more often this year. We need be seen and heard to grow and be heard and we are having success with people wearing Biker Lives Matter clothing and displaying bumper stickers. It is a good way to get a conversation going with others and informing them of the issues we all face.
It is our plan to continue and even improve this year and again we are requesting you let us know what is going on in your state so that we can share that information with others and help you get things done.
It is not our plan to try to take anything away from state motorcycle rights organization but more to support them by letting others know what is going on. We do invite any and all motorcycle rights organizations to share information with us that they want to get out.
We started Biker Lives Matter with time and donated money from a few people. No one involved gets paid but there are still expenses to keep it going and we were counting on the sale of clothing, bumper stickers and maybe a few select advertisers. The Covid Pandemic had us change some of what we were doing much like others around the country. The site will always be free to join and we do thank all that have. We realize that many having some financial issues we are only asking those of you who can to consider buying some merchandise or to even donate some money if you can. There are places on the site that you can do that at.

Officials Pitch Wishful Thinking as Fact in Washington State Plan to Reduce Driving–

The state Department of Commerce is very clear about its views on driving: officials must reduce or altogether eliminate people’s need to drive.
In their latest draft of the state energy strategy, Commerce officials outline ways they feel people and goods can be moved “more efficiently and equitably.” Until recently, mobility was generally defined as the efficient or predictable movement of people and goods. In Washington, this means reducing traffic congestion and improving freight mobility.
However, there is now a push to infuse every aspect of policy with “equity” – an ambiguous term that sounds positive but seems to do little in practice for low-income and minority families. In transportation, “equity” is often used to secure funding for transit, walking/biking projects, and road diets that make traffic congestion, private mobility, and access to employment more difficult for the majority of working families.
Officials argue that vehicle emissions have disproportionate impacts on communities that live near highways, ports, rail, and other industrial areas. To reduce emissions, they argue, officials must reduce vehicle miles traveled (VMT), or how much people drive.
As a policy, VMT reduction has been around for a long time. In Washington, annual per capita VMT reduction targets were codified in statute in 2008, reducing annual per capita VMT by 18% by 2020, 30% by 2035, and 50% by 2050.
These goals are not realistic or meaningful, yet they can have harmful consequences as officials use them to justify land use and transportation policy decisions that can reduce mobility and quality of life. The state set a goal of reducing per capita VMT by 18% by 2020. Yet from the time this target was set through 2019, per capita VMT decreased by only 2.7%. The goal to reduce VMT by 30% by 2035 will not be met at this rate. It is unlikely that future VMT reduction goals will be met either.
VMT reduction targets were set to support state transportation policy goals, which include the goal of helping the environment and “enhancing healthy communities.” Since vehicles are increasingly fuel-efficient and clean, the state should consider eliminating VMT reduction as a goal rather than grasping for new reasons to keep it in place. Unfortunately, the draft energy strategy argues that VMT reduction is also necessary to address traffic congestion, reduce injuries and accidents, and eliminate local pollution. This effort highlights that VMT reduction, rather than being a means to an end, is now an end in itself.
The state believes transportation systems are more efficient if there are fewer people driving, which they actually argue would increase economic prosperity and growth. That claim is not supported by data.
There are studies that show no causal relationship between VMT and economic activity (gross domestic product). There are also studies that suggest increased VMT may promote economic activity and “decoupling” VMT from the economy to mitigate climate change is inefficient. Commerce officials do not offer evidence to support their claim that reducing driving would produce an increase in economic activity. That seems more like wishful thinking than a strategy backed by data.
Nonetheless, the state plows ahead with their plan to reduce VMT and “shift travel onto more efficient modes” – like public transit. The report cites King County as employing the “most effective and lowest-cost strategy.” Despite that assertion, King County officials (and specifically, Sound Transit) are notorious for spending astronomical amounts of public money on projects like light rail that yield low benefits. For example, benefits from the Sound Transit 3 light rail expansion are not projected to surpass costs until 2072 at the very earliest, and that was pre-COVID and the shift to telework. Again, Commerce touts their own wishful thinking as fact, revealing the strategy to be largely ideological.
Officials recommend that the state emulate King County’s strategy, focusing on compact development around transit, and “expanding transit services and making them more attractive, affordable, and easier to use.” Expanding transit use, the report says, is especially important post-pandemic to improve “transportation efficiency and equity.” They further speculate, without any data, that “inter-urban mass transit, like high-speed rail, could reduce the need for high-emitting air travel.”
The underlying assumption, as expressed by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), is that increased transit use is equivalent to “VMT that was avoided.” They claim that “nearly 868 million vehicle miles were avoided in 2018 due to public transit use.” This is not a valid correlation, primarily because public transportation use and traffic congestion are unrelated. A statistical analysis of the 74 largest urbanized areas in the United States over a 26 year period and found that “transit utilization does not lead to reduction in traffic congestion; nor does decreasing transit utilization lead to an increase in traffic congestion.” Even so, in 2018, Washingtonians drove 62.4 billion vehicle miles. That means, according to WSDOT’s logic, all of transit across Washington state only mitigated about 1.4% of actual VMT.
Pitching transit use as a way to reduce VMT in any meaningful way has repeatedly proven to be ineffective, despite billions spent on transit expansion. Continued claims that this is a useful strategy to reduce VMT are dishonest and a waste of public money.
The report adds that, like transit use, active transportation – walking and biking – is also way to “significantly reduce VMT of motorized vehicles.” Again, the report provides no evidence for this claim. Looking at census data for Portland (2012-2019), where active transportation has been promoted for years, both biking (-0.3%) and walking (and -0.4%) as a percentage of total workers, which is already incredibly low, have decreased. In Seattle, where biking and walking are an even smaller percentage of population, biking decreased (-0.1%) and walking increased (+0.2%).
If officials want to decrease VMT “significantly,” promoting transit, biking and walking are certainly not the way to do it. Most people who choose to drive could not replace their car with walking and biking anyway, since they do not live close enough to their place of work (which is one reason they drive). If officials insist on reducing VMT, they should start by admitting that working from home, which was already increasing pre-COVID, is far more effective and helpful in reducing how much people drive. This would leave state transportation officials with what should be their primary focus: accommodating trips and maintaining the roads we pay for.

TEXAS WEATHER REPORT—My Shovelhead is actually coming apart. I would have had the primary off sooner, but I upgraded to a 5-stud hub and now my puller won’t work. It wasn’t a perfect alignment, but it always did the trick.
Now I need to check the 7-pin plug that’s been tucked away under the bumper since I bought the Bronco 8 years ago. Always had access to a trailer and you can see the stop lights, but she needs a bath bad and rental trailer gonna need it.
I’m not sure who’s been in charge of maintenance on this bike, seriously. Did I tell you about when the tour pack came off doing 65-70 down the freeway?
Wish I had access to a heated pressure washer, my plan is to “only” remove the nose cone, rocker boxes, lifter blocks, charging system and the transmission. It has two neutrals and of course the trans seal leaks like a sieve. Plus, I’m gonna try and fabricate a jockey shift and install a kick starter, if anyone has an old set of Paughco true duals, Jack Daniel’s decided to remove the rear pipe one night and didn’t even keep the pieces!
And then if that ain’t enough, I just recently realized I never grew up. I was chatting with an ex-girlfriend Nurse Goodbody. I had a Harley, a camera, my toolbox and an old truck when we were together in the early ‘80s.
Oh, by the way, 70s today and sunshine, supposed to get a front later this evening 60/30s for a few days then back into the 70s in south Texas. It snowed in Austin.

Smears Against America’s Gun Owners Accelerate After US Capitol Occupation— In a desperate gambit to lay the blame for last week’s U.S. Capitol occupation at the feet of America’s firearms owners, gun haters are ginning up more slanderous claims aimed at prominent Second Amendment supporters.
Gun-toting freshman Congressional representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado is one who has been singled out for the anti-gunners’ smear campaign.
Boebert is being falsely accused of offering some Trump supporters a “reconnaissance” tour of the U.S. Capitol the day before the building came under siege. Her political enemies say the tour was a seditious act giving “insurrectionists” a good look art the interior of Capitol in advance of the assault…except the claim is a pathetically false.
Below is the widely circulated tweet that purports to show Rep. Boebert posing on the U.S. Capitol steps before taking that group inside, a group that Twitter users say includes Capitol Hill rioters.
The lie was caught by Will Sommer, a politics reporter for The Daily Beast, who posted proof that the “insurrectionist conspiracy” picture was more than a year old and taken more than a thousand miles from the U.S. Capitol.
In truth, the picture used to smear Boebert was taken in December, 2019 on the steps of the Colorado statehouse just after Boebert had launched her campaign for Congress. At the time the picture was taken, Boebert was a high-profile gun rights activist and owner of a restaurant where the servers famously open-carry firearms…

The building has been brought back into use. The former home of Triumph Cycles founder Siegfried Bettmann is on the market having been converted into a series of luxury apartments and bungalows.
Located in the Stoke Park area of Coventry, the Victorian villa has been transformed as part of a huge development project.
The former home was sold by Coventry City Council to property developers three years ago having fallen into disrepair.
Since then, it has been restored and now exists as 14 one and two-bedroom apartments and garden bungalows.
It is described as being located in a leafy conservation area of the city.
According to the developers: “Each property has been individually designed with an emphasis on lifestyle and space. All properties have luxury fully fitted SieMatic kitchens, large living areas, good size bedrooms and fully equipped Porcelanosa bathrooms.”
Apartment sizes range from 840 sq ft to 947 sq ft, the bungalows from 430 sq ft to 915 sq ft and the mews range from 431 sq ft to 721 sq ft. All properties come with either one or two parking spaces.
Prices range from £180,000 to £360,000 and the Help to Buy Scheme is available for first-time buyers. All properties will be owned on a shared freehold basis.

History of Elm Bank
Born in 1863 in Nuremberg, Germany, Siegfried Bettman moved to Britain in the late 19th century and settled in Coventry. Soon after he founded Triumph Cycle Company which became one of the most famous motorcycle marques in the world and established Coventry as the home of the British cycle trade.
Bettmann lived at Elm Bank from 1905 until he died in 1951. Within those years Ramsey McDonald, a British Prime Minister in the 1920s, visited him at the property twice in 1925.
In 1952 the building was donated to the Coventry Education Committees and was used as a teacher’s clubs and resources centre until it moved in 1974.
In 2015 a blue plaque was erected by the Coventry Society that marks the property as the home of Bettmann.

Lewis was able to complete more than 100 laps over the course of the two-day test with a new motor package. Decorated flat track team owner and crew chief David Lloyd will assist Lewis in 2021, as the team looks to further develop the Twins FT package. Lloyd brings more than 35 years of professional racing experience to the team and has developed competitive packages to multiple manufacturers.
“Our results in 2020 proved that we have the package to be a competitive team in the AFT Production Twins class,” said Johnny Lewis, Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield racer and team owner. “I’m looking forward to building our relationship further with Royal Enfield. Now that the team’s future has been secured, it’s time to get to work. From top to bottom, the support from Royal Enfield has been fantastic and I’m looking forward to delivering more results for Royal Enfield in 2021.”
