by Daniel Patrascu from https://www.autoevolution.com/ We’re not sure what is it about gold that makes it look so tacky on cars and motorcycles, but it is what it is: although there are some trying to make gold give a noble look to their rides, all they manage to do is make them look completely and uselessly bling. In the world of motorcycles, the Yamaha-based Nehmesis is the perfect example of bling builds. Completed some years ago, the extreme machine would have looked perhaps even greater had any other colors than gold and red velvet would have been chosen for it. Of course, what’s poor taste for some is worth every penny for others. Despite its shortcomings, the Nehmesis is worth around $3 million, making it one of the most expensive in the world and by extension justifying the choice of hue. A lot cheaper, but equally disturbing to look at, is this Golden Lowrider we have here. Created by German custom shop Thunderbike by pairing a custom frame and tons of custom parts with a Harley-Davidson engine, the two-wheeler goes against everything the garage is usually about. Used to being treated with incredible builds wrapped in colors that only enhance the visual look and at times even mean something – courtesy of the shop’s usual partner in this field, Kruse Design – we kind of find this one a disappointment. Sure, the overall shapes and the mechanics that went into it are of the usual German quality, but those are completely outshined by the gold that wraps around everything with the exception of the engine, exhaust, and some other minor elements. The Golden Lowrider was made by the Germans some time ago, and as usual we’re not being told how much it cost. We also have no idea where the motorcycle is roaming at the moment, but perhaps that’s for the best. We’re completely aware that some of you might find this pleasing to the eye, and that’s ok. But we still can’t shake the feeling that some other choice of color would have probably made this custom bike a lot more fiercer.

COVID be damned, Bonneville is ready to blast off! The historic salt flats of Bonneville will host the annual Speed Week land-speed event August 8–14. Southern California Timing Association (SCTA), the volunteer organization has been making it happen since 1949, went to bat with the Utah office of the Bureau of Land Management, and upon completing several alterations to the standard procedures, BLM granted approval to hold the event.

The annual gathering of speed freaks features teams ranging from 50cc vintage 2-strokes to 500 mph streamliners. The Bonneville Salt Flats are located two hours from Salt Lake City and just 15 minutes from Wendover, Utah, via Interstate 80. Spectator entry is available on site with $20 day passes and weeklong passes cost just $50.

Today marks the day of the Purple Heart — an award bestowed upon those who’ve sustained injuries in combat.

August in D.C. The annual month-long August Congressional Recess is about to begin. While both chambers are scheduled to adjourn this week, the ongoing debate surrounding another COVID relief bill has put the schedule in flux. White House and Congressional leaders are negotiating the extension of supplemental unemployment funds, stimulus checks for more Americans and other policies surrounding the economy. Many of the funds for these programs expired on July 31st , forcing Congress to act quickly if they choose to extend or modify the policies. It is unlikely that Congress will adjourn without acting in some way, so a deal will likely be reached sometime in August. A Republican controlled Senate version of a bill will likely be dramatically different than the Democratic controlled House version. If that happens, the two chambers go to a “conference committee.” Leaders from each chamber meet to reconcile the two bills and compromise on what language will be included in a final bill. While anything can happen during a conference committee, having similar language in both the House and Senate versions goes a long way to making it to the final compromise bill. That’s why we will continue to press the Senate to include similar motorcycle priorities in their bill to those that appear in the House’s version. When facing challenging times, Americans seek out ways to help one another. They rally together and support those in need. That is precisely what MyMedicTM and Veterans Charity Ride are doing on Friday, August 7th 2020, when they deliver a supply of personal protection equipment (PPE) to first responders in Sturgis, South Dakota. Due to a lack of funding and access needed to purchase and maintain proper PPE, first responders are showing up to emergency calls inadequately protected from exposure to COVID-19.

The VCR motorcycle ride will begin in Moab, Utah, July, 28th and arrive in Sturgis, SD, on Friday, August 7th, 2020.
This year VCR is taking things a step further with its “service before self” initiative. This effort will directly offer support and appreciation for our nation’s first responders and professional medical workers, who have been working the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

You’ll see in the news wild announcements. The Authorities shut down Las Vegas Bike Fest and Daytona Biketoberfest, but we’re still rocking in Sturgis.

It’s going to be a helluva test. I hope like hell no one gets sick. I don’t see a lot of mask wearing in these parts. This might be the only run this year. I’ve got LA brothers who still want to make it out. The opinions are all over the map. Some folks think it’s cool. Some folks need to make the money. Some folks think we’ll have an outbreak after the rally and are pissed off. I know of stores that will be completely closed during the rally.

One thing is for certain. Whatever happens, we’ll experience it, deal with it and move on.

But wait, Laconia is still happening. I’m sure they will look long and hard at the Black Hills Rally.
