The Amazing Bikernet Weekly News for November 14th, 2019

I’ve got birds flying around inside the shop. That’s okay, but the sparrows shit on stuff, but Cash our high-security watch dog doesn’t mind. Hell, his pointed ears don’t even move.

I just returned from Deadwood. The redhead had me freaked about the 8 degrees in the shade temps. It was fucking beautiful. Hell, I took walks in the snow.

Bikernet will have a headquarters in the Badlands before all is said and done, and frankly I can’t wait.

Never a dull moment around here. I need to get back on the shop, working on the Salt Torpedo. We are planning our first major test run in the next couple of weeks. Hang on!

In the meantime, ride fast and free forever!

Motorcycle gang donates RM25k to Kelantanese dad with special needs kids

by TAN MEI ZI from https://www.malaymail.com

They may look like rebels but a group of Malaysian motorcyclists proved that they have hearts of gold after helping a single father and his special needs children.

In a Facebook post, Geng Motorsport member Aresif Pok Are shared how the group collected donations totalling RM25,140 for Mohd Zain Abdullah, whose three children are living with cerebral palsy.

Mohd Zain gave up his job to look after them after his wife passed away from breast cancer in 2016, Berita Harian reported.

When he returned to work, the Kelantanese father-of-seven could only take up a job as a carpenter near his house as he needed to commute back home frequently to attend to his children’s needs.

Mohd Zain’s 21-year-old son also had to put off work to help care for his younger siblings who require assistance with everyday tasks such as bathing and eating.

The family’s story of hardship caught the attention of Geng Motorsport after it made the rounds on social media and WhatsApp groups.

Made up of motorcycle clubs from Kelantan and Terengganu, the Geng Motorsport members banded together to ride to Mohd Zain’s residence in Kampung Kok Keli to present him with a monetary gift to ease his burdens.

The group’s spokesperson Ardy Datok Agos added that it was the biggest donation the group has ever collected throughout their history of charitable deeds, according to KitaReporters.

Aresif said they continued to receive financial aid for Mohd Zain even up until the last minute.

“Thank you to everyone who donated, even up until the last second there were still people who wanted to contribute.

“The struggles faced by Mohd Zain truly touched our hearts and we pray that he remains strong and under God’s care always,” wrote Aresif.

Motorcycle Live returns to the NEC this weekend

Motorcycle Live returns to the NEC this weekend and you can still get tickets

The two wheeled extravaganza runs from 16th – 24th November

by Scott Dickinson from https://www.birminghammail.co.uk

Strap on your helmets because the UK’s largest motorcycle show rides back into Birmingham this weekend with even more attractions for the entire family.

The biking exhibition, in association with Bikesure Insurance, proved very popular last year pulling in 103,702 fans and over 40 of the world’s leading manufacturers.

Motorcycle Live runs from 16th-24th November 2019 at the NEC, Birmingham

This year’s attendance is set to spike with the introduction of brand new content for the little ones. This includes the Arenacross Toddler’s experience for kids too young for an electric bike, but still want to get involved. The show is also introducing a Live Treasure Hunt that will encourage under 10s to explore the show, answering questions and winning prizes.

Motorcycle Live has notoriously always had family at heart, ensuring the day of biking is a thrill for people of all ages. This year 4-12 year olds can get in gear and ride an electric bike on a learner-friendly track. Those aged seven or over can try out OSET machines in the ACU Try Trials.

However, the Moto-Cirque Arena proves the main attraction for most families, showcasing professional riders performing incredible aerial FMX stunts. The neon spectacular remains a treat for the senses, and motorheads across the UK can’t wait to see it.

The Social Hub is also set to reappear following its overwhelming success last year, inviting attendees to meet their favourite moto-vloggers, bloggers and media personalities. The space is theirs to do what they please, so get ready to creatively interact with some of your online icons!

With all of this, incredible competitions and even cheaper parking than 2018’s show (£10 when booked in advance and £12 on the door), the exhibition is unmissable.

With free entry for kids under five and just £1.00 entry for 6-16 year olds (excluding admin fee), other tickets are priced at £10.80/ £12.00/£17.55/£19.50/£25.00 (excluding admin fee).

They can be purchased now from The Ticket Factory official bookings page here!

Norton Motorcycles the 121 Year Old Iconic British Motorcycle is Crowdfunding on Crowdcube

by JD Alois from https://www.crowdfundinsider.com

Norton Motorcycles the 121-year-old legendary British motorcycle company, is planning to raise capital on Crowdcube.

Norton Motorcycles UK Ltd is seeking £1 million to help fill product pipeline orders and to continue to innovate and develop its bikes. Additionally, the company states that the offering’s objective is to give global customers and bike enthusiasts a chance to become part of the heritage company, “profiting from its continued success.” While the offering page is not yet live, you may register your interest in participating in the securities offering here.

Earlier this month, Norton gave £1 million worth of shares to its employees.

Norton’s current CEO Stuart Garner bought the company in 2008 with little experience in bike manufacturing but a passion from the brand, and has since kept it going expanding its line and exporting bikes around the world.

Norton shares the following data points:

  • Cumulative sales of £43m with profitable and growing revenue
  • Year on Year EBITDA growth of 55% with forecast EBITDA growth of 65%
  • £15 million invested into R&D to deliver a fully developed model range
  • Successful new model launches giving a £30m order book
  • 15,000Sq ft new production facility to increase current production
  • Only British motorcycle manufacturer to design, engineer and fabricate all of its chassis’ in its UK

The details of the securities offering are not yet available along with the valuation and current year financials but these should be made available once the offering is live on Crowdcube.

You can review the most recent financials on its Companies House page including year-end financials from 2018 that are an interesting read.

The motorcycles are beautiful bikes – you cannot argue with that. If you saw the James Bond film Spectre you would have seen a Norton blessing the screen.

Garner says Norton has a proud history of engineering exclusive British motorcycles:

“… it’s thanks to our skilled workforce and experienced management team which has allowed the brand to thrive and continue to build globally recognised bikes. It is thanks to our deep connection with our riders, owners and the motorcycle community that we are following our gift of £1m share to our staff with looking to build a successful long term shareholder base from the wider community itself.”

Garner adds that during the past 10 years they have developed a niche in the motorcycle industry designing stunning bikes and producing them in low volume – all hand-built in Great Britain.

Garner claims that new models, the V4 and 650 range, have generated a £30 million order book. Look for the offering to go live on Crowdcube in the coming weeks.

THE AMAZING BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for November 14th, 2019

Hey,

I was just looking at the new issue of Dealer News and I wondered about something. I try to skim through DealerNews and anything motorcycle related constantly, so I may have missed something. I wondered how the DealerNews staff handles the Climate Change question and if they support freedom or dodge the issue scared someone might call them a denier.

Then I wondered about the MIC (Motorcycle Industry Council) and the AMA. Do they even question these issues in support of Freedom and fossil fuels. I’m reading another book regarding this issue (Why Scientists Disagree About Global Warming) and it points at the Alarmists as being the deniers. They are denying science and freedom of speech.

The whole issue of doomsday is blowing up. Check this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-mRJmfFjFE&feature=emb_logo

There is more and more evidence that the climate has changed for 542 million years and will continue to change and man has very little to do with it. And science will continue to change and grow with more and more info. No one can say science is done. It’s against the code of the west, the Science Code. So, I’m wondering if any of the above groups are questioning or doing their own research on an issue that could ruin the motorcycle industry, is already having an impact, or don’t they believe in freedom of speech?

Here’s what’s so interesting about the topic of doomsday. It’s been going on for thousands of years. Hell, in 1970 Leonard Nimoy claimed we were all going to freeze to death. Thousands of years ago, if you weren’t apart of the correct religion, you were doomed to hell and burned at the stake. In the ‘50s after WWII Senator McCarthy claimed that if you even discussed communism over coffee, you could be jailed, ruined and lose your job. That didn’t work too well for him, the whole thing blew up as a hoax and he committed suicide.

Here’s the not so funny, finale to this issue. A Hells Angel from Richmond, California once said, “Time will tell and shit will smell.” Well, that fits this issue perfectly. If 10 years from now (it’s already been almost 20 years of claiming doomsday), we are still selling cars and motorcycles and the planet is just fine, they lose right? Seems simple to me, but I’m just a grubby biker…

Let’s hit the news:

WHEELS THROUGH TIME WINNER–
John Pierrard won a restored Knucklehead.

Pierrard is a long-time fan of the museum but had been unable to make an in-person visit until last July. While at the museum, he bought seven tickets for $50.00. “Pretty good deal,” said Pierrard, after finding out he had won. A long-time rider, Pierrard currently rides a 2016 Harley-Davidson Street Glide, but also owns a 1941 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead, and a 1966 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide.

This year’s grand prize, the beautiful 1936 Knucklehead Hot-Rod Bobber, went to John Pierrard of Asheboro, NC. Second and Third place prizes of $10,000 and $5,000 went to Nora Dalton of Cocoa, Florida and Timothy Richey respectively.

November 9, 2019, brought another beautiful day to Maggie Valley, NC, and Dale’s Wheels Through Time Museum’s 17th Annual Raffle Day.

Raffle day at the museum is one of the highest attended events of the year, and again record numbers of people showed up to enjoy the day’s activities. Each one was anticipating if they would be the lucky winner of the 1936 Harley Davidson Knucklehead.

Each year the museum’s restoration team goes to work to restore a classic American motorcycle, and all the proceeds from ticket sales go toward museum operations, new and enhanced exhibits, and to preservation and restoration of the collection. On Veteran’s Day weekend each year, they give the motorcycle away to one ticket holder.

The morning’s activities included the firing up of rare and vintage motorcycles, special door prizes, and the excitement continued to build throughout the day.

BILLY RAY CYRUS AND LIL NAS X’S
“OLD TOWN ROAD”
WINS COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION’S
MUSICAL EVENT OF THE YEAR–NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Billy Ray Cyrus continues shattering records and racking up accolades as the Flatwoods, Kentucky singer/songwriter and global music icon wins the Country Music Association’s Musical Event of the Year with Lil Nas X for “Old Town Road (Billy Ray Cyrus remix),” a song eliminated on country charts by Billboard critics for not “embracing enough elements of today’s country music.”

This is all on the on the heels of the song being certified diamond by the RIAA as Cyrus leads the pack for nominations as a country artist in the 2019 American Music Awards, yet none of the nods are in country categories. Cyrus is nominated in the all-genre Collaboration of the Year category, as well as Favorite Music Video, Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Song and Favorite Pop/Rock Song.

The CMA win follows a record-breaking year for Cyrus after he took home two MTV VMA Moonmen for Song of the Year and Best Direction, as well as two trophies at the BET Hip Hop Awards for Best Collab, Duo or Group and Single of the Year. The 2019 American Music Awards air November 24 on ABC.

The all-genre field is no stranger to Cyrus. In 1992, his first album, Some Gave All, debuted on the all-genre Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1 and stayed there for a record-breaking 17 weeks.

Not only is “Old Town Road (Billy Ray Cyrus remix)” the first song of 2019 to gain the diamond recognition, it is the first in the RIAA’s history to meet the minimum requirement of 10,000,000 units sold so quickly.

LATEST FROM THE CLIMATE DEPOT–NPR Invents Fake Italy Wine Crisis

There they go again. National Public Radio published an article on its website claiming global warming is wreaking havoc on Italian wine production and forcing producers to seek new ways to protect their grapes. Yet the objective data show wine production in Italy, the rest of Europe, and the rest of the world are all doing quite fine.

As CFACT documented last month, global wine production set a new record last year. Italy was no exception, as Italian wine production also set a new record in 2018. Italian wine production is down some in 2019, but wine analysts attribute the 2019 decline to wine producers deliberately growing fewer grapes this year because they had so much holdover wine from 2018.

To the extent weather impacted the wine grapes that were grown, unusually late spring cold weather and frosts diminished output. Of course, as we are all lectured, global warming causes an earlier end to winter and an earlier start to spring. Without our recent modest global warming, this year’s cold spring would have been worse, this year’s late frosts would have been worse, and this year’s grape harvest would have been worse.

Leave it to NPR, however, to spin the record 2018 wine production, the excess wine held over into 2019, and the cold spring weather on global warming. NPR described the cold spring and late frosts as “weather extremes due to climate change.” Well, I guess “weather extremes” is one way to describe a cold spring and late frosts. Blaming those on global warming, however, is simply preposterous.

Regardless of what NPR would have people believe, wine production in Italy and throughout the globe is doing just fine as our planet modestly warms. So raise a glass and toast global warming!

THE CORAL HEAD MUSIC FESTIVAL REPORT–The American Legion presented its charity concert series The Coral Head MusicFest in support of U.S. Veterans charities for the first time at England Brothers Bandshell in Pinellas Park. Close to 3500 people turned out to relive the 80’s with rockers Sebastian Bach, Jackyl, Mark Slaughter, and Mitch Perry Group (MPG). Also appearing were regional artists HairDaze and Jen.

The crowd was electrified during the entire full day event and things really took off when Mark Slaughter hit the stage performing hits such as ‘Fly to the Angels’, ‘Mad About You’, and many more. Chainsaw wielding Jesse James Dupree along with Jackyl shined with an outstanding performance and executed a barstool in both fire and sawdust with their signature destruction via the famous chainsaw.

Sebastian Bach (former lead singer of Skid Row) blew the crowd away with the 30th anniversary performance of the band’s first album in its entirety in addition to some of his newest material.

Anyone familiar with the bandshell at England Brothers Park knows the stage is somewhat limited in space so the crew brought in and constructed a 50 foot stage complete with high powered sound and an outstanding lightshow.

In addition, food vendors and a number of local merchandise vendors were on hand throughout the day including everything from physic readings to booths from our sponsoring businesses such as The Whiskey, Suncoast Custom Builders, Vapers Manor, and Trichom Health Center just to name a few (full list of sponsors can be found on our website).

Concert goers also enjoyed plenty of Meet & Greets with the bands, beer, wine, and frozen drinks throughout the event along with a premium VIP section that provided an upfront view with preferred seating.

Although this is the first event to be held in the Tampa Bay area the American Legion is no rookie in presenting this event. Working on our 4th year in the Florida Keys with our primary charity being Project: VetRelief, we have brought a number of artists to the stage including the likes of Vince Neil, Great White, Atlanta Rhythm Section, John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band and many others.

The next event scheduled is in Marathon, Florida Keys on February 15, 2020 where Rock and Country will go head to head with ‘Don’t tell me you love me’ artists Night Ranger & ‘Trashy Women’ southern rock favorites Confederate Railroad.

Sponsorship is the key in the American Legion being able to produce such a high quality event. Without our sponsors we simply would not be able to do what we do and we appreciate their support in our U.S. Veterans. Sponsorship in the American Legion Coral Head MusicFest gives both local and national sponsors a lot of exposure in radio, print, online, and digital advertising.

There are many levels of sponsorship, which by the way are tax-deductible (501c veterans organization), and provide numerous tangible and intangible benefits such as advertising, tickets, parking, merchandise and more. To find out more on how you can support our U.S. Veterans and have a great time doing it call us directly and speak with our Sponsor Representatives Jen Ragland (Tampa Bay area) 727-851-1482 and Rich Anderson (South Florida) 305-942-9862, Email: LegionRiders154@gmail.com, or visit our website at www.coralheadmusicfest.com

THE TEXAS DYNA REPORT–This is how much stuff I’ve taken off so far, bars will be here Wednesday. Got the Saddlemen seat for my “Dyna Boy” starter kit. Saw a guy today about 4am, 33 degrees and damp, wasn’t a bagger but at least he had windshield.

I must be old, I don’t like the way the wind hits my chest with the stock FXDB bars. Hoping the new bars will reduce it some? Fan yesterday morning, 33 this morning.

Progress continues.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER JOB PLACEMENT DIVISION–When you have a ‘I Hate My Job’ day.

Even if you’re retired, you sometimes have those days.

Try this:

Stop at your pharmacy
and go to the thermometer section and

purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson.

Be very sure you get this
brand.

When you get home, lock your doors, draw
the curtains and disconnect the phone
so you will not be disturbed.

Change into very comfortable clothing and sit
in your favorite chair. Open the package and remove the thermometer.

Now,
carefully place it on a table or a surface
so that it will not become chipped or broken.

Now
the fun part begins.

Take
out the literature from the box and read it
carefully.

You
will notice that in small print there is a
statement: “Every Rectal Thermometer
made by Johnson & Johnson
is personally tested and then
sanitized.”

Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times, “I am so glad I do not work in
the thermometer quality control department at Johnson & Johnson.”

HAVE A NICE DAY, AND REMEMBER, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSE WITH A JOB THAT IS MORE OF A PAIN IN THE ASS THAN YOURS!

HOLY SHIT—I’ve got birds flying around inside the shop. That’s okay, but the sparrows shit on stuff. Cash our high-security watch dog doesn’t mind.

I’m building a list of content. Jeremiah is installing a set of beautiful billet black Joker Machine turn-signals on his 49mm Dyna. He promised the photos for a tech. We are working with Dennis Manning on a feature about his rebuilt Number 7 Streamliner. He’s looking for sponsors, so he can break the motorcycle land speed record once more. He’s the man when it comes to Streamlined motorcycles.

And just today James “the Tileman” gave me his shots from Vegas Bikefest. I’ll start working on the story in the next couple of days.

Never a dull moment around here. I need to get back on the shop, working on the Salt Torpedo. We are planning our first major test run in the next couple of weeks. Hang on!

In the meantime, ride fast and free forever!

Paris e-scooters under pressure to prove green credentials

Hadjali and Gompo are part of the “urban patrols” carried out by the US start-up Lime, which says the recovered units are recycled as much as possible — though the lithium-ion batteries are usually shot.

Paris – Pulling on makeshift roped hooks along a sun-drenched bank of the Seine River in Paris, Youva Hadjali and Edison Gompo fish out two electric scooters — not the most ecological fate for devices billed as a carbon-free fix for strained urban transport systems.

As city officials vow to rein in the use of wildly popular e-scooters, their short lifespans, along with the energy consumed to build and service them, have many wondering if they are as good for the environment as operators say.

Hadjali and Gompo are part of the “urban patrols” carried out by the US start-up Lime, which says the recovered units are recycled as much as possible — though the lithium-ion batteries are usually shot.

“Overall in Paris, Lime scooters have saved the equivalent of two days without any cars at all” since they arrived 16 months ago, Arthur-Louis Jacquier, head of French operations, told AFP.

Critics say such claims fail to take into account the carbon emitted in constructing the scooters and the daily collections for recharging the so-called “dockless” vehicles.

Those emissions are compounded by lifespans of barely a year, due to wear and tear but also vandalism.

They were a specific target of activists at the Extinction Rebellion protest in Paris last month, who gathered up a huge pile of the devices to denounce what they labelled “pointless pollution.”

“Scooters don’t replace cars, they motorise walking trips,” one sign said.

Studies indeed show that most scooter trips are replacing walking or biking, with just a third displacing car use, said Jeremiah Johnson of North Carolina State University.

He and his colleagues analysed use in North Carolina’s capital, Raleigh, and found the electricity for charging was actually a pretty small contributor to scooters’ environmental impact.

But in terms of pollution, scooters most often end up causing a net increase in terms of global warming impacts.

“Forty percent of the CO2 emissions are from driving around to pick these things up (for charging), and about half of the CO2 emissions are from the materials and the manufacturing of the scooter,” Johnson told AFP.

– ‘Mass transport’ – In the coming weeks, Paris will pick just three operators allowed to keep their scooters on the streets, down from around a dozen which began flooding the city last year.

Lime, which says its charging depots run on so-called clean electricity and plans to use only electric vans for pick-ups, hopes to be one of them.

It also vows to get over some embarrassing growing pains: A few months ago videos emerged showing “juicers,” as Lime calls the freelance workers who gather scooters for charging the batteries, using gas-powered electric generators.

“In just a year and a half, we went from being a firm with innovative ideas to a mass transport company,” Jacquier said of the early decision to outsource charging, something it has since ruled out.

Even so, operators must also meet the challenge of keeping scooters rolling longer.

“If you are able to achieve a two-year lifetime, which would be a really rugged scooter and with really good anti-vandalism policies… that makes a big difference,” Johnson said.

But since September, when Lime launched its Seine searches, some 200 scooters have been pulled out, said Sonthay Detsaboun, who manages the urban patrols.

It’s a similar story in Lyon, where in September an environment group pulled out 109 scooters on just one 800-metre (half a mile) stretch along the Rhone, one of two rivers that weave through the city.

– Building a better machine – At Lime’s depot at Arcueil, just south of Paris, the din of clanking metal and power tools suggests vandalism will remain a challenge to profitability — just as it has been for the city’s pioneering Velib bike-sharing system.

Some 200 mechanics keep the place running around the clock, seven days a week, so the fleet can keep rolling.

Every day 1,000 to 1,500 scooters are put back in working order — common problems include snipped brake cables or spray-painted QR codes, meaning they can’t be unlocked.

Lime is upgrading its fleet to put bigger batteries under the floorboard, hopefully extending the life of the most costly — and environmentally damaging — component.

Those scooters can go 50 kilometres (30 miles) on a single charge, and have an improved lifespan of 16 to 18 months, Jacquier said.

“We’re aiming for a net environmental impact of zero, and therefore 100 percent positive for the planet,” he said.
