DYNA DEFENDER or FXDP SADDLEBAG Installation Review
By Bikernet Contributor RFR | | General Posts
So, I received the Villain 2 Hero bags, this set is either for the next gen Dyna’s or possibly just a change? They bolted right up but were pretty close to the new Progressive shocks. I sent the vendor some images and he suggested drilling a second hole to raise them up some. I had noticed but of course I had already taken it out briefly, so my new shocks have marks on them now.
I actually like the original style better as it gave you a bit more room and I believe that lock setup would be a bit more secure? Not a big fan of having to drill on the new brackets and without a press, but came out okay, I guess. I like the product but unsure why the changes? However, they’ve were less cost wise and will do what I need them to do, so the savings went to other items.
Still needs a new seat, handlebars, LED taillight, but since I only have a total of 117 miles on her since September 30th time to put her into the daily 130-mile rotation

DYNA DEFENDER or FXDP SADDLEBAG SET: $719.00
(fiberglass, with powder-coated steel frames)
After two years of R&D, road-testing and manufacturing enhancements, we are very pleased to offer you the finest saddlebag set available. These will mount to any year Harley Dyna by utilizing a 3-point mounting frame. There is no need to buy the obsolete FXDXT rear fender with this set-up.
These will work with any shock configuration except piggy backs, and mount with or without passenger back rests. (See Turn Signal Relocation Kit.) If you have oem FXDX/FXDXT shocks, you will need either to reverse the shock bolts and use existing bolt cover as a spacer, and/or to rotate the upper and lower shock bolt housing. If this does not work, you can purchase HD part #:54557-90A, or just add spacers to existing hardware. Some bikes will require longer fender strut bolts and/or shock studs.
Yes, I saw this after market FXRP hard bags online, looks like they don’t have that back bracket which combines the two from behind the back fender.—Frank Ball Jr.
EASYRIDERS MAGAZINE HISTORY
By Bikernet Contributor Stealth | | General Posts
For me it feels like saying goodbye to an old friend. I have been reading this magazine since 1975 , the year I graduated high school, yeah a long time ago! Before I ever had a bike I was reading Easyriders.
I had it down to the day the new issue arrived at the local 7/11 store. As soon as I got out of work it was the first stop. If I remember right they cost $1.50!
I got the bike, along with about 3 other guys, and we rode. We would buy Easyriders and get together on a Friday or Saturday night and go over the magazine from cover to cover. This is what I was going to do to my bike. This is what my buddies were going to do to their bikes and it went on and on into the morning hours along with drinking a beer or two and with a joint or two. It was a GREAT time.
My favorite was the Dave Mann center folds. My garage walls are covered with them, some are on the walls of our home and I have plenty of them stored away. As luck would have it, in the last issue published, they printed one I did not have. it is framed and on the wall! Again, as fate would play out this past January I entered my ‘82 Shovel in the Easyriders National Invitational show here in Charlotte and got 3rd place in the antique class!
Easyriders was more than just a magazine, It was a way of life for many of us. Our hair was long, and our beards were long. We wore the t-shirts, the jeans and the engineer boots just like what you saw in the pages of the magazine.
Many choppers were born in late night garages and buildings from the pages of Easyriders as inspiration. In the winter my buddies and I would all get together and help each other with our bikes after work. Nights often turned into mornings on Friday and Saturday nights. Those bikes had to be ready for that first spring ride!
Easyriders was neutral ground for all of us, no matter what we believed or what we thought, we all agreed it was a cool magazine. We all shared what it was about–FREEDOM! Freedom to be who you wanted to be, freedom to look how you wanted to look and most important Freedom to ride! It was our voice!
I talk about the “look” in Easyriders, and I will never forget this story. We were riding and stopped at a pizza parlor. We all had the hair, the beards, our tees, our jeans and our leathers. We walked in and as soon as we did all the folks looked at us and got up and left!
Yeah, we knew we had arrived! Man we got a laugh out of that but more so, we were proud! Another time I will always remember: I worked for IBM a number of years. Yep, with the suits and ties and all the fakes. The first week I was there I was approached a number of times people asking, “Hey man, you got any weed to sell?” Yep, I had the look of a biker. I talk about the look, but it is much deeper than appearance. If you don’t have the heart and soul, you are not a biker! Funny thing is at IBM a few years later, I started to see more bikes in the parking lot and more t-shirts and jeans at work?
We all wanted to be In Easyriders and for me I was lucky enough to have a couple of bikes in the Readers Ride section. My name on the pages and for bike show awards was a high I will never forget!
On a more personal note Easyriders helped me through some tough times when I had nothing I had the magazine and it gave me a way to never give up through the stories I read in those pages. I was not going to give up on who and what I wanted to be.

UM halts India operations
By Wayfarer | | General Posts
The American bike maker has halted production at its Kashipur plant in Uttarakhand and the joint venture with Lohia Auto looks to be strained.
Following reports of several UM motorcycle showrooms shutting down in India, it is learnt that American bike maker United Motors has stopped its operations in India and that the joint venture with Lohia Auto looks to be strained. With this, it joins the list of automakers to exit India which includes General Motors and MAN Truck & Bus AG.
The last UM product launched was the Renegade Commando Classic, priced at Rs 1.89 lakh in September 2017. The long-drawn slowdown in the two-wheeler industry seems to have hit the company hard and production at its Kashipur plant in Uttarakhand seems to have stopped.
Understandably, UM motorcycle dealers of are getting furtive, given that there are no new product launches expected any time soon. Also, it appears that UM is facing a financial crisis globally and reports say that the company has shut its operations in China.
In an interaction with our sister publication, Autocar Professional, Ayush Lohia, CEO, Lohia Auto Industries, explained, “Our JV with UM Motorcycles was of a 50:50 nature. UM Motorcycles is currently not able to invest any money in India and thus the Kashipur plant in Uttarakhand is not manufacturing any of the UM motorcycles.”
UM motorcycles were built with 40 percent localised parts and 60 percent imported bits. While most of the local suppliers are based in North India, the imported parts were being sourced from Indonesia, Thailand and a few other countries. Ayush Lohia confirmed that all the supplies for the last UM motorcycles produced have been paid for and no new parts are to arrive at the plant. However, Lohia says not all hope is lost in the JV and he does not plan to dissolve it any time soon.
Not too long ago, till April 2019, United Motors was retailing around 200 motorcycles a month in India. At present, most of its dealers have pulled down shutters while a few are open just for the servicing process. Acknowledging the Indian dealers’ plight, Lohia said, “We are awaiting clarity from our partner as regards addressing our dealers’ condition. For the time being though, since UM is showing no intention of going ahead with its India operations, I am not able to give a confirmed status of the current scenario of the brand in India.”
It may be noted that after April 2019, reports began coming in of UM discontinuing its operations temporarily in India as none of its products had ABS. Around the same time, official reports from the company stated that new launches could be expected during the festive season.
United Motors’ product portfolio in India includes the Renegade Commando, Renegade Sport S, Renegade Mojave and Renegade Classic – all American-styled cruiser motorcycles powered by the same 300cc liquid-cooled engines. It was speculated that UM was supposed to come out with a 150cc scooter this year, called the ‘Chill 150 ABS’. In the current scenario, that project seems to be in the pigeonhole.
Cleveland motorcycles shutdown India operations
By Wayfarer | | General Posts
by Satya from https://www.rushlane.com
Cleveland is the 2nd American motorcycle brand, after UM, to leave India in recent time.
Amidst persistent downturn in auto sector and a slowing economy, Cleveland Cyclewerks has discontinued India operations. While an official confirmation is yet to be provided, a report from Express Drives said that the company’s assembly plant in Pune has not been operational for last eight months.
Several factors seem to be responsible for Cleveland Cyclewerks’ exit from Indian market. Primary among them include the relatively high cost of its motorcycles and the company’s inability to comply with new safety norms such as mandatory ABS. The company was also not able to deal with negative perceptions related to its use of Chinese parts.
Unlike other brands in this segment such as Royal Enfield, which have a rich history dating back to several decades, Cleveland Cyclewerks was a relatively unknown brand in the Indian market. The company was launched in 2009 in United States and its business model is quite simple. Most of its motorcycles use chassis from other motorcycle makers and low cost components from Taiwan and China. The choice of engine is usually Honda.
Cleveland Cyclewerks had made its debut in India at 2018 Auto Expo and had subsequently launched two motorcycles, Ace and Misfit. While Ace was positioned as a retro-modern scrambler, Misfit derived inspiration from a cafe racer. Both these bikes were imported in India as CKDs and assembled at the company’s facility in Pune.
Both bikes utilized a 229 cc, air-cooled engine that generated max power of 15.4 hp and max torque of 16 Nm. This was less than even lower capacity motorcycles. Ace and Misfit were launched at a starting price of 2.23 lakh. This is more expensive than Royal Enfield Classic 350, their main rival.
These factors worked against the company and sales of Ace and Misfit never really took off. The company had opened its first dealership in Mumbai and had plans to open 100 more dealerships by 2019. However, with meagre sales, the plans failed to materialize. The report says that employees of the company were asked to resign at short notice.
If you own an Ace or Misfit, it would be difficult to say how you will get your bike serviced. You will probably have to rely on the expertise of your local mechanic or branded garage shops.
2020 Ducati Streetfighter V4 packs 208 hp in a 400-lb package
By Wayfarer | | General Posts
by Ronan Glon from https://www.autoblog.com/
It’s an evolution of the world’s best-selling superbike
Over a thousand attendees wildly cheered as Ducati boss Claudio Domenicali unveiled the 2020 Streetfighter V4, a racing-inspired motorcycle that weighs less than a Chevrolet big-block engine yet packs more power than a Subaru BRZ. It’s revving proof that jaw-dropping horsepower and eye-catching design are still the guiding lights in the motorcycle industry.
The Streetfighter V4 is a Panigale V4 (the world’s best-selling superbike) stripped down to the bare essentials. In car terms, it’s like if Audi dropped the powertrain from the R8 LMS into a purer, simpler variant of the car. While that sounds relatively simple, Domenicali explained striking the right balance between performance, usability, and design was much more difficult than anyone anticipated. The company’s engineers put the Streetfighter through its paces all over the world — even at Pikes Peak.
“We test prototypes once a month. About one year ago, we were in Sardinia and we were very unhappy [with this bike]. We were worried, but we totally changed the situation. It has taken one year of hard work, but in the last tests we’ve carried out, you can really feel the difference,” he explained.
Andrea Ferraresi, Ducati’s lead designer, instructed his team to draw inspiration from the Joker; yes, that Joker. The Streetfighter’s face was extremely important during the development process, because it’s a model without any side fairing. The drivetrain is fully exposed, hence why this type of motorcycle is called naked. The front end consequently has to convey the bike’s identity on its own, yet it still needs to house the headlights, plus a growing list of electronics.
Stylists bent the rules to add biplane wings near the front. Domenicali conceded it was a contentious decision, but the winglets ultimately stayed because they add nearly 62 pounds of downforce at 170 mph. An unexpected wheelie is the last thing you want if you’re traveling at that speed.
The Streetfighter V4 can get there, too, and it will make it look easy. Its specs are bewildering, especially if you’re used to seeing horsepower and torque curves in the automotive world. The 1,103cc V4 engine screams its heart out until it produces 208 horsepower at 12,500 rpm and 90 pound-feet of torque at 11,500 rpm. Riders who want more can order a racing-spec Akrapovič exhaust that bumps the four’s output to 220 horses, which is eight less than the 2019 Volkswagen GTI. And yet, the Streetfighter weighs 392 pounds in its lightest configuration.
While Ducati developed the Streetfighter V4 with performance and style in mind, it couldn’t build it without a generous serving of technology; Domenicali underlined the importance of safety. It consequently features a six-axis inertial measurement platform that monitors its pitch, roll, and yaw angles and does its best to step in if something looks amiss. The suite of electronic riding aids also includes a power launch function, traction control, and cornering ABS. These life-saving features are slowly but surely seeping into motorcycles from the car world, and riders are accepting them.
“For a while, ABS was very special for riders. We’d hear it all the time. Customers would say ‘oh, I have it in my fingers, I have it in my hands.’ No way. ABS is very important,” Domenicali stressed.
Ducati will offer the Streetfighter V4 in two variants when it releases the model in early 2020. The more hardcore V4 S version gains an upgraded Öhlins suspension and weight-saving forged rims provided by Marchesini. Pricing start at about 16,000 euros, a sum that converts to nearly $18,000, but full information about the American version will be released in early 2020.
An Aston Martin motorcycle will grace the world soon enough

The bike will be a collaboration between the automaker and Brough Superior.
Aston Martin is prepared to dive into the world of motorcycles, thanks to a collaborative effort between it and storied British motorcycle maker, Brough Superior.
Motorcycle fans will see the Aston Martin badge grace a two-wheeled contraption for the first time next month when the automaker and motorcycle maker unveil a carefully crafted bike. Aston Martin said Thursday the first motorcycle coming to life will debut at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy, on Nov. 5.
Details are, obviously, absent for now. However, the British carmaker underscored that it tapped into its decades of engineering and design expertise to help Brough Superior craft something only the two companies could create. It’s something of a passion project, too, as Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman and Brough Superior CEO Thierry Henriette are both motorcycle enthusiasts.
“The opportunity to collaborate with Brough Superior has given us the chance to bring our own unique views on how beauty and engineering can combine to create a highly emotive piece of vehicle design,” Reichman said of the project in a statement.
Aston Martin has continuously expanded its reach, and the upcoming motorcycle is the latest branch sprung from the British automaker. The company has plans for not one, but three mid-engine supercars in the near future, and a resurrected Lagonda brand will handle luxury electric vehicles. A DBX luxury SUV will also launch in the coming months.
We’ll see the limited-edition motorcycle in a couple of weeks and I expected it to be nothing but a grand piece of transportation.
Aston Martin and historic British motorcycle manufacturer Brough Superior will unveil a new motorcycle this November
Aston Martin has announced a new partnership with the iconic British motorcycle manufacturer Brough Superior, which will see the pair produce a limited edition two-wheeled project for this year’s EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show. The finished article will be unveiled on 5 November.
Details on the British brands’ collaborative project remain sparse but, given Brough Superior’s heritage, we expect the finished bike will be powered by a V-Twin engine. Judging by the sole teaser image released so far, it should also adopt a more contemporary design than Brough Superior’s current range of motorcycles.
Aston Martin and Brough Superior’s limited edition motorcycle will probably feature fairings for handlebars and engine, rather than the naked design employed by the latter brand’s current Pendine Sand Racer and Super Sports 100 models. The project will also mark the first time Aston Martin’s badge will appear on a motorcycle.
Aston Martin’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, said: “The opportunity to collaborate with Brough Superior has given us the chance to bring our own unique views on how beauty and engineering can combine to create a highly emotive piece of vehicle design. We’re excited about the end result and can’t wait to see the reaction the motorcycle receives when it is revealed.”
Brough Superior was established in Nottingham in 1919, by George Brough. Throughout the early 20th Century, the brand produced the world’s fastest and most expensive performance motorcycles – such as the 1924 SS100, which was comfortably capable of reaching 100mph and cost the equivalent of £10,000 in today’s money.
LOUD PIPES BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for October 24, 2019
By Bandit | | General Posts
Hey,
I’m at a crossroads today. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve witnessed upheaval in relationships, business dealings, etc. After about the third one, I start to wonder if the stars are out of alignment. Is the MoJo working?
Check out the fight over loud pipes in Boston. Get this, I have a letter framed on the wall of my office from 1927. It’s a letter to the industry from the General Manager of the Motorcycle and Allied Trades Association, complaining about loud motorcycles. This has been around a long time. And often it’s one guy or a couple of guys who are racing past the wrong house numerous times, until someone drops a dime to the cops, local legislators or the newspaper. It only takes one angry citizen to raise hell, to cause a problem.
On the other hand, there are positive signs on the Salt Torpedo front. The liner is back together and I might have a safety inspection on Saturday. If all goes well, we will be ready for our first test pass on El Mirage, the dry lakebed near Victorville.
On the celebrity front, George Christie is finally in Spain working as a consultant on a new gang TV series. And the star of Sons or Anarchy, Kurt Sutter, had a falling out with the series bosses and won’t be around in the future. Wasn’t he killed in the last episode?
Let’s hit the news:

FROM THE PRESIDENT–Trump prepares to formally withdraw US from Paris Climate Accord.
The White House is reportedly beginning to prepare to formally withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accord.
The official withdrawal would cement a promise President Trump made in the White House Rose Garden in 2017, where he first announced his intention to withdraw from the global climate change agreement signed by every other country.
Trump can formally begin the yearlong withdrawal process on Nov. 4, allowing the U.S. to finalize the process on the same date in 2020 – just one day after the presidential election.
Trump was widely expected to announce the formality during a Wednesday speech in Pittsburgh but instead bashed the deal.
“I withdrew the United States from the terrible, one-sided Paris Climate accord. It was a total disaster,” Trump told crowds gathered at a natural gas event, before repeating a line from when he first pledged to leave the deal, saying “I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.”
His views on the deal have been widely criticized by Democrats, environmentalists, and even some Republicans, who say the U.S. is abdicating global leadership at a time when urgent action is required to stem the most dangerous impacts of climate change.
Trump has repeatedly boasted about withdrawing the U.S. from the deal, despite the rigid timelines required by the agreement.
Adding to the confusion was a White House readout of Wednesday’s speech, which said “the President announced he is pulling the United States out of the fraudulent, ineffective, and one-sided Paris Climate Accord.”
When asked by The Hill whether the speech constituted a formal withdrawal, a spokesman for the White House said “the president has already announced the U.S. withdraw from the disastrous Paris Climate Accord.” Reporting from the New York Times indicates the formal process is set to begin soon.
If the U.S. indeed begins the process to leave the accord, it would do so just weeks ahead of a UN summit in Chile, where leaders will hammer out final details for complying with the agreement.
The landmark 2015 agreement signed by President Obama requires the U.S. to reduce emissions about 28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025…

WIM WHATEVER RETURNS–Cantina Episode 88
Bandit and Marko ride to Chinatown and meet with a restaurant owner who is obviously intimidated by the new broad in town.
I’m sometimes inspired by a movie I watch or even a TV series, but two recent ones are leaving me wondering who the fuck wrote these? They get so confusing, you don’t know what the hell is going on.
I started to watch Hanna. After about four episodes I turned it off. Then I watched Absentia till the end. Again, some super-hero broad, who can’t figure out what’s going on until the last episode, while folks are tortured relentlessly, and she was there in the beginning? But I get it. Every plot line under the stars has been written and rewritten forever.
Hang on for the next episode. I think you’ll dig it. And get your pals to join the Cantina, so we can keep the Cantina Nirvana afloat.

A devastating series of research papers has just been published, revealing that human activity can account for no more than a .01°C rise in global temperatures, meaning that all the human activity targeted by radical climate change alarmists — combustion engines, airplane flights, diesel tractors — has virtually no measurable impact on the temperature of the planet.
Finnish scientists spearheaded the research, releasing a paper entitled, “No Experimental Evidence for the Significant Anthropogenic Climate Change.”
The paper explains that IPCC analysis of global temperatures suffers from a glaring error — namely, failure to account for “influences of low cloud cover” and how it impacts global temperatures. Natural variations in low cloud cover, which are strongly influenced by cosmic radiation’s ability to penetrate Earth’s atmosphere due to variations in the strength of our planet’s magnetosphere, account for nearly all changes in global temperature, the researchers explain.
As this chart reveals, more cloud cover is inversely related to temperature. In other words, clouds shield the surface of the Earth from the sun, providing shade cover cooling, while a lack of clouds results in more warming:
Cloud cover accounts for the real changes in global temperatures
This is further supported by researchers at Kobe University in Japan who published a nearly simultaneous paper that reveals how changes in our planet’s magnetic field govern the intensity of solar radiation that reaches the lower atmosphere, causing cloud formation that alters global temperatures.
That study, published in Nature, is called, “Intensified East Asian winter monsoon during the last geomagnetic reversal transition.” It states:
Records of suborbital-scale climate variation during the last glacial and Holocene periods can be used to elucidate the mechanisms of rapid climate changes… At least one event was associated with a decrease in the strength of the Earth’s magnetic field. Thus, climate records from the MIS 19 interglacial can be used to elucidate the mechanisms of a variety of climate changes, including testing the effect of changes in geomagnetic dipole field strength on climate through galactic cosmic ray (GCR)-induced cloud formation…
In effect, cosmic rays which are normally deflected via the magnetosphere are, in times of weak or changing magnetic fields emanating from Earth itself, able to penetrate further into Earth’s atmosphere, causing the formation of low-level clouds which cover the land in a kind of “umbrella effect” that shades the land from the sun, allowing cooling to take place. But a lack of clouds makes the surface hotter, as would be expected. This natural phenomenon is now documented to be the primary driver of global temperatures and climate, not human activity.
Burn all the oil you want, in other words, and it’s still just a drop in the bucket compared to the power of the sun and other cosmic influences. All the fossil fuel consumption in the world barely contributes anything to actual global temperatures, the researchers confirmed.
As they explain, the IPCC’s climate models are wildly overestimating the influence of carbon dioxide on global temperatures:
…the [IPCC] models fail to derive the influences of low cloud cover fraction on the global temperature. A too small natural component results in a too large portion for the contribution of the greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. That is why J. KAUPPINEN AND P. MALMI IPCC represents the climate sensitivity more than one order of magnitude larger than our sensitivity 0.24°C. Because the anthropogenic portion in the increased CO2 is less than 10%, we have practically no anthropogenic climate change. The low clouds control mainly the global temperature.
The entire “climate change” hoax is a fraud
Carbon dioxide, in other words, isn’t the “pollutant” that climate change alarmists have long claimed it to be. CO2 won’t destroy the planet and barely has any effect on global temperatures (the IPCC’s estimate of its effect is, according to Finnish researchers, about one order of magnitude too large, or ten times the actual amount).
In fact, NASA was forced to recently admit that carbon dioxide is re-greening the Earth on a massive scale by supporting the growth of rainforests, trees and grasslands. See these maps showing the increase in green plant life, thanks to rising CO2:
Importantly, reducing our global consumption of fossil fuels will have virtually no impact on global temperatures. The far bigger governor of climate and temperatures is the strength and configuration of Earth’s magnetosphere, which has always been in flux since the formation of the planet billions of years ago. The weaker the magnetosphere, the more cosmic rays penetrate the atmosphere, resulting in the generation of clouds, which shield the planet’s surface from the sun. Thus, a weaker magnetosphere causes global cooling, while a stronger magnetosphere results in global warming, according to this research. This phenomenon is called the “Svensmark Effect.”
As reported by Science Daily:
This suggests that the increase in cosmic rays was accompanied by an increase in low-cloud cover, the umbrella effect of the clouds cooled the continent, and Siberian high atmospheric pressure became stronger. Added to other phenomena during the geomagnetic reversal — evidence of an annual average temperature drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius, and an increase in annual temperature ranges from the sediment in Osaka Bay — this new discovery about winter monsoons provides further proof that the climate changes are caused by the cloud umbrella effect.
The “war on carbon” is derived from sheer stupidity, arrogance and scientific illiteracy
The extreme alarmism of climate change lunatics — best personified by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ insistence that humanity will be destroyed in 12 years if we don’t stop burning fossil fuels — is all based on nothing but fearmongering media propaganda and faked science. (The IPCC and NOAA both routinely fudge temperature data to try to create a warming “trend” where none exists.)
It’s all a massive, coordinated fraud, and the mainstream media deliberately lies to the public about climate change to push anti-free market schemes that would destroy the U.S. economy while transferring literally trillions of dollars into the pockets of wealthy globalists as part of a “carbon tax” scheme.
Yet carbon isn’t the problem at all. And the “war on carbon” is a stupid, senseless policy created by idiots, given that humans are carbon-based lifeforms, meaning that any “war on carbon” is a war on humanity.

LIVEWIRE ROAD TEST IN DAYTONA–That thing is a blast! We were unable to take it out on the roads due to major traffic backup of bikes leaving Destination Daytona, so they took us to a vacant parking lot where WyoTech used to be.
I was first in line behind the dude leading the ride on a Softail. There were six LiveWires and probably four or five “gas jobs”. When we took off up the access road to the parking lot I had to back off the throttle before running over the leader. The torque and power are very impressive. The parking lot maneuvers were fun twists and turns around the islands and then hard throttle take offs in between.
I tested a Zero electric a few years ago and the LiveWire is more comfortable and heavier. The balance, however, is great with all the weight down low.
I’m the perfect candidate for a LiveWire. Short commute to work and back every day. But at $30K I could get a Tesla and stay warm and dry on the shitty days.
The LiveWire is a halo product for sure. I hope they have some more affordable options down the road for those that elect to ride electric.
Funny thing is it was plugged into the charging station that was hooked to a diesel generator. I called it the Diesel Powered Harley!

THE LOUD PIPES FILES WERE OPENED LAST WEEK–We have a city in northern Indiana with a police department that has taken an aggressive position regarding noise. They have a billboard campaign that seems more antagonistic than it is inspiring.
I know that there are some great campaigns out there (“Throttle Down”, “Cool Your Pipes”, etc…) and would like to be able to offer a program that encourages cooperation, rather than one that incites a confrontation.
Please send me whatever you have so that I may share them with the mayor. Any assistance is appreciated.

Wisconsin had a problem in a couple of different counties a few years ago. We decided to partner with Law Enforcement agencies to reach the riders through the businesses. We created the a poster and adjusted it to whatever area was being targeted. We went to all sorts of businesses to hang the posters including bars of course but also rest areas, laundromat’s, grocery stores, liquor stores and many retail stores and they were very supportive. This was a join effort with the Sheriff’s Department and, although they offered to pay for the printing of the posters, we designed them, printed them and distributed them to show our level of support.
In one area we challenged their testing methods which was recommended by the AMA according the Sheriff’s Office. They decided to test the deputies personal bikes, as well as new Harleys and new metrics. They learned that the recommended standard that the AMA suggested was too low, so they set their own decibel level. It’s important to note here that they were not necessarily ticketing riders, mostly warning and giving “fix it” citations.
We questioned if they were pulling over just motorcycles or all vehicles including heavy trucks. They realized that they were discriminating against motorcyclists and moved forward with pulling over all vehicles that they felt exceeded original sound levels. Our partnership included the Sheriff’s Department providing us with reports of the number of vehicles pulled over, where it happened, the type of vehicle and what action was taken. In the second year of the campaign, no motorcycles were stopped!

Jay,
The Mayor expressed a reasonable complaint that too many motorcyclists were revving their engines in the center of town because they liked the way the sound echoed between the buildings on both sides of the street and was setting off multiple car alarms. It was angering merchants, homeowners and tourists.
The slogan and the personal outreach proved to be very effective.
It’s been 10 years and we’re still welcome in their town and haven’t been harassed since.
About 5 years ago we had a similar issue in another tourist town named Port Jefferson. We treated it similarly and had great success there also.
In my opinion, personally educating the offenders is the most successful technique.

Proposed law would make the ‘b-word’ illegal in Mass.
The bill targets using the word “to accost, annoy, degrade or demean” another person.
By Christopher Gavin, Boston Today
A Boston Democrat has proposed a state law that would penalize the use of the b-word when used to demean another person.
The bill, filed by state Rep. Dan Hunt in May, is slated to go before the Joint Committee on the Judiciary Tuesday afternoon.
The measure proposes adding two sentences to the section of state law that assigns fines and other penalties for various offenses, such as crimes for common night walkers, indecent exposure, and disturbers of the peace.
“A person who uses the word ‘bitch’ directed at another person to accost, annoy, degrade or demean the other person shall be considered to be a disorderly person in violation of this section,” the bill says.
Alleged violations can either be reported by the person the word was directed at or by witnesses, the proposal says.
According to the bill, penalties would be similar to those outlined in the other subsections of the state law, which, depending on the subsection, provide for a fine of not more than either $150 or $200, or jail time of up to six months,
The Massachusetts Republican Party criticized and mocked the bill Monday, writing on Twitter, “Beacon Hill Democrats like (Rep. Dan Hunt) are fearlessly taking on the biggest problems facing the commonwealth.”
“Do you believe free speech matters? Tired of (Massachusetts Democrats) dictating what you can say?… Come on Down to the State House. Rooms A1&A2. First floor. Let ’em have it,” MassGOP wrote while referencing Tuesday’s committee hearing in another tweet.
The arm of government reaches far if we ignore them.

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE DELIVERS MOST POWERFUL ENGINE IN ITS CLASS WITH NEW POWERPLUS – A NEW LEVEL OF V-TWIN PERFORMANCE FROM AMERICA’S FIRST MOTORCYCLE COMPANY
Liquid-Cooled 108 Cubic Inch Motor delivering 122 Horsepower and 128 ft-lbs. of Torque to Power New Indian Challenger
Indian Motorcycle, America’s First Motorcycle Company, raised the bar for American motorcycles today with the announcement of its most powerful engine to date, the PowerPlus. The all-new 108 cubic inch, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine delivers a class-leading 122 horsepower and 128 ft-lbs. of torque and establishes a dramatically new standard for V-twin performance.
The PowerPlus will serve as the heart of the new Indian Challenger, an all-new, fixed-fairing bagger that utilizes Indian Motorcycle’s state-of-the-art technology to become the highest-performing American V-twin ever developed. The new engine’s name is a nod to Indian Motorcycle’s iconic history, paying homage to the Indian PowerPlus motorcycle produced from 1916 to 1924.
“We challenge our engineers with the notion that anything less than best-in-class design and performance will simply not get it done, and it’s clear with this new engine that they have delivered on that high standard,” said Steve Menneto, Indian Motorcycle President. “Countless hours were spent in design, development and testing to ensure this is the best liquid-cooled V-twin ever developed, and I could not be prouder of our team and this incredible motor.”
The PowerPlus adopts several design and performance features from the liquid-cooled 1,133 cc Indian Scout engine, including an overhead camshaft design utilizing four valves per cylinder. But comparisons end there. The PowerPlus was developed with a big-piston, big-torque mindset with an end game of maximum power delivery across the entire curve.
The all-new powertrain features a six-speed transmission with true overdrive, assist clutch to reduce clutch effort, and three ride modes that allow riders to tailor throttle mapping to their riding preferences. Advanced technology also includes hydraulic valve lash adjusters and hydraulic camshaft chain tensioners for ease of maintenance and reliability.
The PowerPlus was tested, refined and proven by one of the industry’s most rigorous development and testing programs, accumulating nearly one million miles of simulated testing, including state-of-the-art dyno testing, and more than 250,000 on-road miles.
“You simply cannot deliver the ultimate bagger without an engine that stands head and shoulders above anything else in its class, and that was the motivation behind the PowerPlus,” said John Callahan, Indian Motorcycle Vice President, Engineering. “We developed the most sophisticated V-twin powerplant in the industry, and then we spent month after month, hour upon hour, putting it through the most intense paces to ensure it could take whatever we threw at it. The end result is something truly special.”
-MORE-

After about five minutes the old man lets another one go and says, ‘Aha. I’m ahead 14 to 7.’
Not to be out done the wife rips out another one and says, ‘Touchdown, tie score.’
Five seconds go by and she lets out a little squeaker and says, ‘Field goal, I lead 17 to 14.’ Now the pressure is on for the old man.

Women are the fastest-growing segment of the motorcycle industry, and we also happen to exercise considerable control over household purchases even when we aren’t the one in the rider’s seat. I think that motorcycle and apparel manufacturers, tour companies and dealerships all want to make us happy…they just don’t know how to do that!
So, I thought, let’s create a consumer panel, so that we can join together in a chorus impossible to ignore, and make our voices and opinions known.
I would like to invite YOU to join our first-ever Woman Rider Consumer Panel. If you would like to participate, the link at the bottom of this page will take you to a survey with some baseline demographic questions that will give us an idea of who we all are and what we ride. I’ll share some of that information with you once we’ve compiled it, and we can see what our family of moto-sisters looks like.
Then, we’ll start sending out questions to those of you on our panel, where you can share your opinions, desires and dislikes. We won’t spam you—I’m picturing maybe one or two emails per month—and it’s important for you to know that I take your privacy very seriously, so none of your personal info (like your email) will be shared when we compile the panel’s answers.

GUN NUT REPORT–Texas Sen. Cornyn Announces RESPONSE Act to ‘Prevent (Mass) Attacks and Make Communities Safer’
Today in the Senate I will be introducing the Restoring, Enhancing, Strengthening, and Promoting Our Nation’s Safety Efforts – or RESPONSE – Act. This bill will include a number of provisions to prevent attacks and make our communities safer.
The RESPONSE Act creates nationwide task forces to investigate and prosecute those who are illegally selling firearms, and those attempting to buy firearms who provide false statements as part of a background check.
econd, this bill improves the quality and availability of mental health care. We must do more to identify and support vulnerable individuals who could pose a danger to themselves or others. We know the majority of gun deaths are suicides, and while mental illness is not the prevailing cause of mass violence, enhanced mental health resources are critical to saving lives.
– Texas Senator John Cornyn in After El Paso and Odessa shootings, my plan to reduce mass violence
From Cornyn’s web site . . .
The RESPONSE Act is endorsed by the National Council for Behavioral Health, National Alliance on Mental Illness, the National District Attorneys Association, Treatment Advocacy Center, Fraternal Order of Police, National Association of Police Organizations, National Sheriffs Association, and Major Cities Chiefs. It would help prevent future attacks by:
Giving New Tools to Law Enforcement
Encouraging Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to Better Collaborate with Law Enforcement to Prevent Mass Shootings —Clarifies that internet service providers and online platforms have the authority to share information with law enforcement concerning acts of mass violence, hate crimes, or domestic terrorism.
Prosecuting Illegal Unlicensed Firearms Dealers—Creates nationwide federal, state, and local law enforcement task forces (modeled on Project Exile) to investigate and prosecute criminals who are violating current law by engaging in the business of selling firearms without a license or who provide false statements as part of a background check.
Provides grant funding and reimbursement to state and local law enforcement who participate in these task forces.
Expediting the Death Penalty for Terrorist Mass Violence—Expedites administration of state death penalties for individuals who commit mass murder as part of a crime of international or domestic terrorism by limiting the scope of federal appeals.
Expanding Resources for Mental Health Treatment
Increasing Access to Mental Health Treatment and Crisis Intervention Teams —Requires HHS to develop and disseminate guidance for states to fund mental health programs and crisis intervention teams under the Medicaid Program.
Expanding Assisted Outpatient Treatment—Expands the ability of states to receive federal funding for assisted outpatient treatment programs so that family members of the mentally ill can help them receive treatment outside of the criminal justice system and before their condition deteriorates.
Bolstering Mental Health Funding in the Criminal Justice System—Makes up to $10 million of existing DOJ state and local law enforcement funding available for law enforcement to partner with mental health providers to provide mental health treatment and compliance through the use of long-acting medically assisted treatment.
Expanding the Mental Health Workforce—Requires HHS to issue a report to Congress on best practices to expand the number of mental health practitioners and access to care.
Bolstering School Safety for Students and Teachers
Incentivizing School Internet Safety to Prevent Mass Violence—Incentivize schools to enforce Internet safety polices that detect online activities of minors who are at imminent risk of committing self-harm or extreme violence against others in order to provide students with the services they need and prevent possible violence.
Increasing Access to Active Shooter Training—Increases law enforcement and first responder access to active shooter training funds provided by the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security.
Assisting School Behavioral Intervention Teams—Directs the Department of Health and Human Services to identify and facilitate the development of best practices to assist elementary schools, secondary schools, and institutions of higher education to operate behavioral intervention teams to identify students whose behavior indicates a threat of violence and ensure they receive the assistance and services they need.

Red Cross LA Commemorates Woolsey Fire–One Year Later, Red Cross LA Commemorates Unprecedented Wildfires
The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region will commemorate last year’s Woolsey Fire at the Conrad Hilton Foundation on Nov. 8, 2019 by honoring the volunteers, donors and community partners who helped to provide relief and comfort to those affected by the devastating fire.
Last November, Red Cross LA stood on the frontlines as the Hill and Woolsey Fires tore through Los Angeles and Ventura counties – burning 96,000 acres and affecting more than 1,800 homes – to serve its neighbors when they needed it most.
“While the heartbreak was undeniable, what struck me most was the amazing resilience of this community – how people came together to support the men, women and children whose lives were devastated by this tragedy,” aid Jarrett Barrios, CEO of the Red Cross Los Angeles Region. “While the recovery process is still far from over, I could not be more proud of all the our incredible disaster workers and the aid they were able to offer victims from all walks of life during this incredibly difficult time.”

TAKE IT OUT OF GEAR—Thursdays are always an exciting mad scrambles. Brenda sneaks in the back door to clean up the mess and Laura arrives a half-hour later to screw with the books and pay the bills. I don’t know where she finds the money. I don’t have any…
I spoke to Dr. Hamster last night about my VA disability effort. He has a bank of doctors on call and a research team trying to figure out how I stand tall at 71. I’ve been after the VA for six years, and it all may come to fruition in the next couple of months.
I’d like to survive on writing motorcycle stories, but I’m not sure that will ever happen. But I won’t ever give up. I’m a grubby biker till the end.
Hang on for the next chapter.
Ride fast and free, forever!
