Go Socialist or Die!? The Age of the ‘Climate Emergency’ – UN, Universities, Cities, & Now Congress?! to declare ‘Climate Emergency’ – Gore & Streisand helped pioneer phrase
By Bandit | | General Posts
Plus: AOC & Sanders Seek Congressional Resolution on ‘Climate Emergency’
Flashback 2004: Al Gore first tries to popularize ‘Climate Emergency’: Al Gore: “The phrase ‘climate emergency’ is intended to convey what it conveys – that this is a crisis with an unusual sense of urgency attached to it, and we should see it as an emergency…So when I use the phrase climate emergency, I have partly in mind the fact that this is happening right now. And it carries with it, unless we do something, catastrophic consequences for all civilization.”
Flashback 2005: Barbra Streisand also helped pioneer the inane phrase ‘Climate Emergency’?!: Streisand in 2005: “Al Gore passionately stressed that our world no longer has a climate problem, we are in a climate emergency.” ABC’s Diane Sawyer that we were “in a global warming emergency state.”
UN: Universities to declare ‘Climate Emergency’ – Seek ‘drastic societal shift’ to help shape ‘young
UN Touted Emergency Letter: As institutions and networks of higher and further education from across the world, we collectively declare a Climate Emergency in recognition of the need for a drastic societal shift to combat the growing threat of climate change. The young minds that are shaped by our institutions must be equipped with the knowledge, skills and capability to respond to the ever-growing challenges of climate change. We all need to work together to nurture a habitable planet for future generations and to play our part in building a greener and cleaner future for all.
AOC, Sanders to declare ‘Climate Emergency’ – Seek Green New Deal resurrection – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders will introduce Tuesday a resolution declaring a climate change emergency, a move that comes after the Green New Deal failed to take off the ground earlier this year. The resolution, also co-sponsored by Oregon Rep. Earl Blumenauer, will call for a wide-scale mobilization to combat the emergency and restore the climate “for future generations.”
“The global warming caused by human activities,” claims the draft resolution, according to the Mother Jones magazine, “has resulted in a climate emergency that … demands a national, social, industrial, and economic mobilization of the resources and labor of the United States at a massive-scale.”

‘This can only backfire’: ANOTHER MAJOR NEWS OUTLET DITCHES ‘CLIMATE CHANGE’ FOR ‘CLIMATE EMERGENCY’– Critics say hyping global warming coverage is sure to hurt the credibility of media outlets.“This can only backfire,” said Marc Morano, publisher of Climate Depot and author of “The Politically Incorrect Guide To Climate Change.” “To further hype global warming to their new pet phrase ‘climate emergency’ will only serve to expose the media as having no objectivity on this issue,” Morano told The Daily Caller News Foundation…“We have reached a point, where it is almost irrelevant what the mainstream media does on this issue,” Morano said. “Everyone knows their perspective and instinctively knows they are shilling for climate alarm and so-called solutions.”
Morano: “This can only backfire. To further hype “global warming”/climate change” to their new pet phrase “climate emergency” will only serve to expose the media as having no objectivity on this issue. This new term will only serve to make the public roll their eyes, even more, when they read what will clearly identify as activism, not journalism. It will be easy for much of the public to continue to ignore these increasingly outlandish climate claims.
Any media that uses ridiculous terminology like “emergency” will be easy to dismiss as not serious journalism, but activism. We have reached a point, where it is almost irrelevant what the mainstream media does on this issue. Everyone knows their perspective and instinctively knows they are shilling for climate alarm and so-called solutions.”

‘Climate Emergency’: Ireland Set to Ban Private Cars– In order to avert a “climate apocalypse”, the government plans to force people “out of private cars because they are the biggest offenders for emissions”, according to transport minister Shane Ross whose proposals — which include banning fossil fuel vehicles from towns and cities nationwide — are posed to cripple ordinary motorists, local media reports.

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY CONFERENCE
Gene shared information on the upcoming 2019 Massachusetts Motorcycle Safety Conference and requested input on the current plans. The conference will be held on Thursday August 22nd, 2019, targeting motorcycle groups and dealerships. The agenda will be split up into two primary sections, the first being an indoor session from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Devens Common Center, which will consist of the following presentations:
- Motorcycle Crash Data – Gene Carabine, MREP, RMV
- Motorcycle Curriculums & Discussion – Gene Carabine & Dave Elias
- Motorcycle Insurance – Betsy Lister, Lister Insurance & Paul W. Cote, MMSF
Following a lunch from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm, the conference will relocate to Mass Motorcycle School wherein 2-wheel and 3-wheel motorcycle testing will be demonstrated by Dave Elias, in order to inform attendees of the significant differences between operating both vehicles.
Discussion about the motorcycle safety conference, and specifically the crash data, ensued.
It was suggested that comparison of state and national crash trends be included. It was suggested that although trends in Massachusetts seem similar to national trends, some deviations exist, particularly around crash cause and rider error. Additionally, there are still many right of way crashes in Massachusetts. Furthermore, there are some trends we’re not currently examining, specifically uninsured riders and the influence of younger riders under 29 (which has increased statewide and nationally). The group discussed the challenges with accessing data on uninsured motorcycle riders. Some of this data may be available in FARS. Barbara will examine this and provide info to Gene. There was further discussion of crashes involving drivers without drivers’ licenses or with permits only. The group expressed interest in information on whether vehicles in the crashes were registered and whether the drivers’ had valid licenses/permits, as well as previous training of those involved in motorcycle crashes. They also suggested examining injury data, not only fatality data.
Barbara mentioned that www.TrafficSafetyMarketing.gov contains promotional materials for safety, including materials specifically for motorcycles, which are in the process of being updated. It was proposed that these could be used during the conference. She also referenced the Countermeasures that Work report which has information on motorcycle safety as well as many other safety emphasis areas.
Although the group expressed interest in driver error and driver responsibility, Gene offered a reminder that federal funds are only available for “Check Twice” campaigns—these funds cannot be used for campaigns oriented around rider responsibility, etc.
Brook suggested that HSD’s motorcycle safety promotional videos be shown as interludes between the presentations and give attendees a sense of what materials the grants are funding.
NEXT STEPS ON SHSP MOTORCYCLE SAFETY ACTION PLAN
The discussion moved on to next steps in the first strategy in the Motorcycle Crashes Action Plan: Improve analysis of motorcycle crashes. It was suggested that linked data be used to look at what injuries occur most often with motorcycles. Gene will reach out to Ridgely Fick at DPH regarding analysis of crashes involving motorcycles in the EMS data. Steve will reach out to Jeanne Hathaway at DPH about any possible analysis of injuries associated with crashes involving motorcycles using the crash/hospital linked data.
Doc D’Errico brought up the large influx of different vehicle types being mislabeled under the umbrella term motorcycle. Gene added that while, by law, autocycle vehicles such as the Slingshot are being classified as a motorcycle, legislation is being proposed to reclassify.
Donna suggested that, if in the future Gene is interested in working with law enforcement on motorcycle safety issues, Donna can work with the Chiefs of Police Association and other regional chief of police associations to get them involved.
SHSP Strategies and Actions
Robin asked the group to review the attached MA SHSP Action Plan for the Motorcycle Safety Emphasis Area to see if any updates were needed.
EA TEAM ACTION ITEMS
- Each team member will review the proposed Motorcycle Safety Action Plan’s strategies and actions (attached) and send Robin (riessman@ecs.umass.ed) any feedback. –from Paul Cote

RIDERS REJOICE AS LEGO GROUP INTRODUCES LEGO® CREATOR EXPERT HARLEY-DAVIDSON® FAT BOY®
By Bandit | | General Posts
Billund, Denmark (July 9, 2019) – Today, The LEGO Group revealed its latest LEGO® Creator Expert model – a Harley-Davidson® Fat Boy® that will cruise into LEGO Stores globally on August 1, 2019.
Developed in collaboration with Harley-Davidson, this detailed LEGO interpretation of the iconic Milwaukee motorcycle captures the beauty of the real-life machine with finishes, surfaces, and design elements crafted to replicate the full-size Harley-Davidson Fat Boy. Featuring 1,023 pieces, the model comes complete with solid-disc wheels, teardrop fuel tank, integrated speedometer, and dual exhaust pipes.
The finished model measures over 7 inches (20 cm) high, 7 inches (18 cm) wide and 12 inches (33 cm) long and features several moveable parts for owners to engage. Spin the rear tire to see the Milwaukee-Eight® engine with moving pistons and dual exhaust pipes, spring to life. Turn the handlebar, move the gear shift and brake levers, and flip down the motorcycle’s kickstand for easy parking. Finished with an authentic dark red and black color scheme with Harley-Davidson® logos on each side reflective of the 2019 Fat Boy motorcycle’s Wicked Red paint scheme, it’s a perfect display centerpiece for any home, office, or anywhere to channel the inspiration to ride.
“Bringing this Harley-Davidson motorcycle to life in brick form is incredibly exciting,” said Mike Psiaki, Design Master at LEGO Group. “The model truly captures the iconic design, advanced engineering and attention to detail of this iconic motorcycle, offering an immersive building experience and a unique collector’s item for Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and LEGO fans of all ages.”
“It’s been exceptionally exciting for Harley-Davidson to collaborate with the LEGO Group – another brand that champions creativity and expression,” said Heather Malenshek, Chief Marketing Officer at Harley-Davidson. “Not only do we want customers to be inspired by the end result, we want them to enjoy the building process.”
“The authenticity of Harley-Davidson design comes by sweating the details from start to finish.” said Brad Richards, Vice President of Styling & Design, Harley-Davidson. “We looked at every nut and bolt on the bike, all the finishes, and every small detail. Working with the LEGO team on this project allowed us to bring that same attention to detail to a collaborative product, and to celebrate a brand that inspired the imagination and creativity of many of us at Harley-Davidson from a young age, including myself.”
To celebrate the launch, LEGO Master Builders created a life-size model of the motorcycle, complete with silver coated parts, Wi-Fi animation control, sound and light effects to imitate a real Harley-Davidson® Fat Boy® and 6,000 special LEGO elements. The extraordinary creation took 865 hours to build, is made of 69,569 pieces and will be on display at select LEGO stores and Harley-Davidson events for fans to see.
The LEGO Creator Expert Harley-Davidson® Fat Boy® model is available for $99.99 directly from LEGO Stores and shop.LEGO.com exclusively for VIP members beginning July 17, 2019, with general public availability beginning August 1, 2019. Customers in the United States will also be able to purchase on Harley-Davidson.com and through Harley-Davidson Dealers across the country.
Monster Energy® Kawasaki Thrills Passionate RedBud Fans
By Wayfarer | | General Posts
Foothill Ranch, Calif. (July 7, 2019) – Round 7 of the 2019 AMA Pro Motocross Championship returned to Buchanan, Michigan for the 45th annual RedBud National over the 4th of July weekend. With arguably the most energetic crowd of the entire series, the RedBud faithful donned their red, white and blue attire while chanting Monster Energy® Kawasaki rider Eli Tomac’s name after he captured his third overall 450MX victory of the season, and the fans continued on for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo as he earned second overall in the 250MX class.
As the rowdy crowd lined the fence for 450MX Moto 1, Tomac fired out of the gate in third and began his mission to take over the lead. On Lap 3, Tomac capitalized on the momentum of an outside line to make the move around his competition into second and then followed up with another pass for the lead in that same section of the track on the very next lap. Tomac went on to lead the remaining 13 laps to grab the checkers with a 6.3-second gap on the rest of the field for his sixth moto win of the season.
As the gate dropped on the second moto, Tomac began his charge from seventh position. After reaching fourth by Lap 5, Tomac found himself stuck behind one of his competitors for the next seven laps before catching a second wind and laying down the fastest lap time (2:08.3) of the moto. With two laps remaining, Tomac managed to pass one other rider before crossing the finish line in second, earning the overall victory (1-2) and further extending his lead in the 450MX championship points standings to 34.
After a respectable qualifying result of fifth to start the day, Joey Savatgy faced adversity in both motos, finishing the day 38th overall (38-34). Despite his best efforts and starting within the top-10 in both motos, Savatgy was forced to withdraw early from both races; in Moto 1 after colliding with another competitor and again in Moto 2 following a crash with a few laps remaining while running in sixth.
Not only were the fans displaying their American pride, but the entire Monster Energy Kawasaki team sported special team hats, graphics on the race bikes, and riding gear, while Savatgy took it to the next level by arriving to the pits with red, white and blue hair.
The defending back-to-back champion and the rest of the Monster Energy Kawasaki team will take a week off, as Round 8 of the 2019 AMA Pro Motocross Championship will pick up on July 20th in Millville, Minnesota for the Spring Creek National.

Moto 1 in the 250MX class saw Cianciarulo wedged off the track in the opening lap of the moto but he managed to stick it out and reenter the track quickly. By Lap 7, Cianciarulo reached third just before dropping to fourth a few laps later. With just two laps remaining, Cianciarulo capitalized on a competitor’s misfortune with their bike, allowing him to finish third. At the conclusion of the moto, Cianciarulo was penalized two positions by race officials for not decelerating when running off the track on the opening lap, moving him back to fifth.
As the gate dropped on 250MX Moto 2, Cianciarulo shot out of the gate aboard his KX™250, positioning himself in fifth. At the halfway point of the moto, Cianciarulo had reached third but wouldn’t stop there and made his final pass on Lap 12 to reach the finish line in second. Cianciarulo’s 5-2 score placed him on the podium with second overall and he continues to lead the 250MX Class standings with a 25-point advantage.
After riding through the morning practice session and qualifying 11th, Martin Davalos and the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team decided he would not line up for motos that afternoon. Davalos has been struggling with lingering injuries throughout the season and after reevaluating his condition that morning, the group decided it was best he sit out in order to focus on the healing process. Davalos will follow up with the doctor later in the week for an updated status.
