Monster Energy® Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac Dominates the Monster Energy Supercross Season Finale

Foothill Ranch, Calif. (May 5, 2019) – Round 17 of Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship returned to Las Vegas, Nevada for the season finale where Monster Energy® Kawasaki rider Eli Tomac finished the season on high note with a dominant overall win and once again showed that he is the best in the Las Vegas conditions. As the temperatures in the desert rose so did Tomac’s race pace as he rode blistering fast all day long and set the fastest time in qualifying aboard his KX™450. In Heat Race 2, Tomac had a fourth place start with his title contender ahead of him. Tomac quickly made his way into second and began to setting up a pass for the lead when he mistimed a rhythm section causing him to come to a complete stop on the track. Only losing one position, there would be no denying him from getting to the front of the pack, where he went on to win the heat race. In the Main Event, Tomac turned up the heat even further, rocketing to the holeshot and never looked back, going on to win the main event by 12.061 seconds ahead of the competition. Tomac finished the season second overall in the 450SX Championship Points Standings and will now begin to turn his attention to defending his 450 Motocross Championship, looking to mark his place in the records books with a third consecutive title. It was a tough day at the office for the No. 17 machine of Joey Savatgy as his night was cut short due to a crash in practice. Savatgy finishes out the season in eighth place overall and the highest scoring rookie in the championship points standings. Savatgy took home honors on Saturday night as he was named the 2019 Rookie of the Year. Monster Energy® Kawasaki’s race semi-truck driver, Brian “Big B” Barnhart was awarded the 2019 SX Transport Driver of the year award. Although an unofficial award, the award is nominated and agreed upon by fellow factory team’s semi-truck drivers and team managers in the paddock to acknowledge the hard work throughout the season. #3 Eli Tomac 1st Place “Man, what a season that was! Tonight we just gave it the beans and held it wide open all night long. Nights like tonight were just downright fun racing my motorcycle. I am proud of myself and the effort the whole Monster Energy Kawasaki crew put in all season long. We’ve got my 2019 KX450 dialed in right now, which has me excited to get outdoors started. I am already looking forward to the 2020 supercross season, but in the meantime, I plan to carry this momentum into outdoors and once again defend my title.” – Eli Tomac #17 Joey Savatgy DNR “Honestly, I am pretty darn proud of what the Monster Energy Kawasaki team and I accomplished in my rookie 450SX season. Today was one of those days where I made a minor mistake that caused me to have a pretty hard crash. Luckily it wasn’t anything too bad, but I am bummed I couldn’t give it a go for the last round here in Vegas. I think we showed a lot of consistency all season long, as well as showing that we belong up front and in the hunt. We accomplished a lot of the goals I set out for myself at the beginning of this season. To be named Rookie of the Year in the 450SX class is a huge honor and I could not have done it without my whole Monster Energy Kawasaki team. I am going to take the next two weeks to heal up and get ready for outdoors and once again show everyone what I am capable of.” – Joey Savatgy Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo came into the final race of the season poised and ready to wrap up the season with a championship with the additional challenges of the combined East/West Showdown format. Cianciarulo set the tone early as he qualified with the fastest lap time in the 250SX Western Region with teammate Garrett Marchbanks in seventh. The Western Region riders lined up for their heat race first as Cianciarulo shot out of the gate in a top-5 position, while Marchbanks was forced to charge from 11th. The teammates went to work aboard their KX™250 machines as Cianciarulo made his way to third before running out of time in the short, 8-lap heat race. Marchbanks was able to make a few passes of his own, finishing seventh. The East/West Showdown Main Event marked Martin Davalos’ 101st and final 250SX race in the class. Davalos kicked off the day qualifying third in the 250SX Eastern Region and carried on the momentum into his heat race as he finished second. As the gate dropped on the East/West Showdown, Cianciarulo positioned himself in fifth and started his push toward the front of the pack, while Davalos and Marchbanks were wedged outside the top-10, sitting 11th and 16th, respectively. Just as they approached the halfway point of the race Cianciarulo had made his way all the way up to third before making a costly mistake in a rhythm section, causing him to crash. Due to the severity of the crash, Cianciarulo was unable to ride at race pace and was forced to slowly roll through the rest of the race to finish 20th, finishing second overall in the 250SX Western Region Rider Point Standings. Davalos and Marchbanks rode consistently throughout the race to finish ninth and 10th, respectively. Young gun Marchbanks wrapped up the season with a top-10 overall finish and was awarded Rookie of the Year in the 250SX Western Region, which gives the Kawasaki Team Green alumni some added confidence to come back as a strong contender for 2020. Davalos secured fourth overall in the 250SX Eastern Region Rider Point Standings, just a few points behind his injured teammate Austin Forkner, who managed to still clinch third overall without being able to compete in the last three main events.

Capitol Hill Update

The Month of May
After a two-week recess for Easter, Congress returned to Washington, D.C. this week. On May 1st the leaders of the House Motorcycle Caucus introduced House Resolution 338, declaring May 2019 Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The resolution sponsored by Congressman Michael Burgess (R-TX) and Tim Walberg (R-MI) reads in part:

“Resolved, That the House of Representatives—
(1) supports the designation of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month;
(2) recognizes the contribution of motorcycles to the transportation mix;
(3) encourages motorcycle awareness by all road users;
(4) recognizes that motorcyclists have a right to the road and that all motorists should safely share the roadways;
(5) encourages rider education and training for safe motorcycle operation; and
(6) supports the goals of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.”

Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) stated: “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month is an important opportunity to remind car and truck drivers to always be on the lookout for a nearby motorcycle.”

For the first time in over a decade, the House of Representatives has introduced a measure recognizing motorcycles in the month of May, and we hope it helps foster continued positive conversations about motorcycles on Capitol Hill.  See full House Resolution 338 here:  BILLS-116hres338ih.pdf

RARE MOTORCYCLE COLLECTION DISCOVERED IN LOS ANGELES

 1938 Vincent “Series A” Among Others Found In L.A. Warehouse Stash And Now For Sale

This ultra-rare 1938 VIncent Series A motorcycle found stashed in a warehouse is now for sale.
Rarest motorcycles found in forgotten collection, 1938 Vincent Series A headlines collection.Some of the world’s rarest motorcycles buried in a forgotten Los Angeles warehouse collection are now for sale with viewing in Grand Rapids, MI on May 22, 2019.
Grand Rapids, MI – A rare collection of Vincent and Grigg motorcycles are now in the care of Liquid Asset Partners, based in Grand Rapids. These were discovered after the passing of a reclusive owner, after being hidden away for decades. The bikes include six Vincent Motorcycles, a one of a king Grigg Motorcycle, and a lifetime collection of rare parts. The gem of the collection is a 1938 Vincent HRD Series A Twin, coined by many as the rarest and most collectible motorcycle in the world.

“We could not believe what we found,” said Bill Melvin. “We made arrangements to view the collection which was buried in an industrial building near Los Angeles. Within a day, we were on site taking notes and photos to document this rare find. It was difficult as the bikes were crammed into tight quarters mixed with parts and other miscellaneous items. It was the personal hoard of a lifetime.”

The headliner of the collection is the Vincent HRD Series A Twin. Known as a “Series A” it carries a prestige similar to the rarest Duesenbergs, with only 78 ever built and possibly fewer than 40 in existence today. Most of the surviving Series A motorcycles are in museums, with only a few coming for sale each decade. Built in 1938, with a top speed above 100mph, it was a superbike with many beautiful hand made parts, which showcase the mechanical work of art. The engine has a wonderful V-Twin rumble and power that surprises anyone lucky enough to try it.

The collection also has a 1923 Grigg Blackburne V-twin engine 693cc which is extremely rare, the only known survivor in the world with the 693cc V-Twin. Only four Griggs of various models are thought to survive. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and history of this piece of art are sure to be destined for a museum.

Included is a one-of-a-kind Vincent Series D Victor (Comet) replica. The Victor was one of the last models created by Vincent in 1954. Only one was made before the factory closed. The previous owner was the only person to spend the time and money to recreate a perfect one-of-a kind replica of this rare model.

The bikes were brought over in the early 1960’s when the previous owner decided to leave England as a young man. He came to the United States with a container of belongings which included a number of old motorcycles and a vast collection of parts.

The following is a list of the motorcycles, which Liquid will be entertaining offers on: 1923 Grigg Blackburne, 1938 Vincent Series A -HRD Twin, 1953 Vincent Black Shadow – Series C, 1955 Vincent Victor Single Replica, 1954 Vincent Rapide D/C, 1948 Vincent Series B Rapide, and 1950 Vincent Comet basket case.

Interested parties should contact Liquid Asset Partners at 616.719.5917 or sales@liquidap.comto submit an offer. A preview will occur in Grand Rapids, MI on May 22, 2019.

ABOUT BELLAMY BROTHERS
Howard and David continue to prove that the trail they’ve ridden to fame has been as unique as their music itself—music that is now celebrating more than 40 years of success. The road that started on the pop music charts in the ‘70’s, took a winding turn into country music in the ‘80’s, paving the way for duos to come, such as Brooks & Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Big & Rich and The Judds. “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me),” originally scrawled on a dinner napkin by David, rocketed them to the top of the country charts the way “Let Your Love Flow,” had done in the pop market just a few years earlier. It proved to be the first of a string of 14 No. 1 singles in the U.S. alone. They’re the only U.S. country music act who’ve toured in India, Sri Lanka, New Caledonia and Qatar. The Bellamy Brothers hold the record in both the Academy of Country Music (ACM) and the Country Music Association Awards (CMA) for the most duo nominations. Numerous Grammy nods have also been directed toward the brothers. The Bellamys are also opening up their lives to television audiences with their new reality show, “Honky Tonk Ranch.” Each episode of “Honky Tonk Ranch” captivates viewers by the unpredictable misadventures the Bellamys face while balancing their globe-trotting touring schedule while running their sprawling family ranch in south Florida. “Honky Tonk Ranch” is executive produced by David Bellamy and directed, shot and edited by Derrek Kupish, CEO/founder of dkupish productions. “Honky Tonk Ranch” airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. CT on The Cowboy Channel.

CONVERSE FOR MOTORCYCLISTS?

Converse X Neighborhood Motorcycle Chuck Taylors

Posted By

Apr 7, 2017

Catagory: Style

Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars are perhaps the most iconic sneaker on the planet. And they are worn by everyone from athletes to musicians and pretty much everyone in-between. There’s one group, however, that have kind of gotten the shaft when it comes to this classic shoe: motorcyclists. And that’s because Chucks, being made only from thin canvas, don’t hold up too well to foot shifter wear and tear. Well, thanks to Converse’s latest collaboration with Neighborhood, that’s all changed.

For the most part, this version of the shoe is pretty much the same as it ever was – a canvas upper with a rubber toe cap and sole. But, they’ve also included in this cycle-friendly version leather reinforcements around the eyelets, ankle, and heel. The biggest highlight of this collaboration, however, is the included foot shifter strap overlay – which is made from a combination of rubber and leather and helps protect both the shoe and your feet. These specialized iconic motorcycle sneakers retail for $110.

PURCHASE: $110

I’ve ridden motorcycles with sneakers on. Although, I know how dangerous they can be. On a street bike, you need to be able to slide to maintain control, but sneakers won’t allow that. Beware!–Bandit

The Battery Wars of the near future

U.S. legislation aims to thwart China’s electric vehicle dominance

WASHINGTON: A U.S. senator plans to introduce legislation on Thursday to streamline regulation and permitting requirements for the development of mines for lithium, graphite and other electric-vehicle supply chain minerals, part of a plan to offset China’s dominance in the space.

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, the Republican chair of the Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee, will introduce the Minerals Security Act alongside Senator Joe Manchin.

“Our challenge is still a failure to understand the vulnerability we are in as a nation when it comes to reliance on others for our minerals,” Murkowski told Reuters.

France, Germany agree on first battery cell consortium

France and Germany have earmarked 1.7 billion euros ($1.90 billion) to support several company alliances looking to produce electric car battery cells, a step aimed at reducing the dependence of European carmakers on Asian suppliers.

BERLIN: France and Germany have asked the European Commission to green-light state subsidies for a cross-border battery cell consortium involving carmaker PSA with its German subsidiary Opel and Total’s Saft, FAZ newspaper reported on Monday.

The economy ministries of both countries sent a letter of intent to the European Union’s executive body asking Brussels to quickly give its go-ahead, the newspaper said, adding that the sum of the planned support was not mentioned.

Motorcycle Helmet Performance: Blowing the Lid Off

Searching for the truth behind motorcycle helmet design, helmet standards and actual head protection

By Dexter Ford and California Scientific

How good is your helmet? Will it actually protect your brain in your next crash? Will it prevent your next accident? I don’t think so, but it may cause your next accident–watch out.

These seem like easy questions, ones you probably think you can answer by reciting the lofty standards your helmet meets and the lofty price you might have paid for it. But the real answers, as you are about to see, are anything but easy.

There’s a fundamental debate raging in the motorcycle helmet industry. In a fiberglass-reinforced, expanded-polystyrene nutshell, it’s a debate about how strong and how stiff a helmet should be to provide the best possible protection.
