Ducati King Of The Mountain At Pikes Peak

Ducati racer Carlin Dunne has led the 2018 Spider Grips Ducati Pikes Peak team to victory during this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC). Dunne completed today’s “Race to the Clouds” in 9:59:102. This is Dunne’s fourth victory at Pikes Peak.

“We did it. We took the podium,” said Dunne, who notably was the first motorcyclist ever to traverse the 4,720-foot Pikes Peak race course in less than 10 minutes in 2012. “The Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak proved as amazing as we all hoped. It performed flawlessly, giving me everything I needed to get up the mountain. Pikes Peak is never an easy race, but the weather cooperated and we clinched the victory for Ducati.”

This is Ducati’s seventh victory on the mountain since the company’s debut in 2008. Ducati and Dunne held the all-time course record from 2012 until 2017, a year in which Ducati was not part of the official race competition. Dunne’s previous victory in 2012 was achieved on the game-changing Multistrada 1200 S.

This year, Dunne secured the win on the new Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak model. The new Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak showcases the versatility of a new, larger displacement 1262 cc Ducati Testastretta DVT engine delivering 18% more torque in the mid-range. The bike is also paired with a redesigned chassis for increased stability.

Rounding out the Ducati team this year was new member Codie Vahsholtz, who finished in third with a time of 10:12:703. Vahsholtz is a Colorado native who comes from a family of Pikes Peak champions and has established a series of victories of his own.

This year, for the 96th running of the “Race to the Clouds,” Ducati partnered with Shell Advance, Brembo, Pirelli, Termignoni, Spider Grips, Ducati by Rizoma, Race Tech, Revl and Racing Cowboys.

Riders interested in test riding the new Multistrada 1260 can sign up here.

The Horseless Smoke Out 19 Kills It in Rockingham

Exercising the moral code of a Detroit hooker The Horse Magazineended its partnership with the Smoke Out Rally and then tried to convince theworld the event was not happening at all.It was a sucky situation but a Mark Twain quote comes to mind, “The rumorsof my death are greatly exaggerated.” This year’s Smoke Out was bigger, andmore importantly better in every way.The feeling of carefree fun seemed to return to the event with the exitof Mz Debo.

Years ago, Edge, the head cook and bottle washer of the Smoke OutRally tapped me to run the custom bike show. No one knew what to expect in terms of bikeentries or attendance this year.Obviously, I was blown away by the response of the biker community.I knew the Smoke Out would always have itsfans. However, this year’s bike show wasmore epic than I could have ever guessed.

A large white circus tent was erected with the garage-built bikesringing the tent. The tent was there to cool off the enthusiasts looking at thebikes. Under the tent it was as cool as Steve McQueen and the custom bikescircling the huge tent were even cooler but I am getting ahead of myself inthis story.

I had just about 25% of the show loaded when Edge strolled by andsaid that the set-up wasn’t his vision. I asked him what his vision was and heexplained that he wanted the bikes butt-up to the tent not four feet away as Ihad set up. Edge is true to his word so when he sez, “you’re not going to likethis, but…” you pretty much know you’re not going to like it.

So, I reset the 30 bikes in the 90 degree heat… and almost died.As I’m pushing them in place, bikes are arriving and it’s double-time for about45 minutes.

The thing about the Smoke Out, it’s about choppers. It’sabout builders, from professional builders like Bill Dodge and Jeff Cochran, tothose bloody-knuckled guys (and ladies) burning the midnight oil in an unheatedshed to build a chopper they can call their own.

At this bike show chops of all makes are featured includingAmerican, British, Metric… everything.

I especially liked Cindy Wing’s story. She rode in her hardtailedBSA from Joplin MS. To get ready for the ride, she rebuilt the bottom end onher kitchen table. She was also one of the winners and will receive a featurein an upcoming issue of Thunder Press.

Saturday afternoon we raffle off bike show prizes fromLeatherworks Inc., Simpson Helmets, J&P Cycles, Heavy Metal Art andAeromach MFG. At Smoke Out 19 we have 9 winners with each receiving a featurearticle from a magazine.

The winners with the writers and editors come on-stage for theawards. Each winner receives a bike feature from a magazine publication.
Winners include:

  • Garrett Walker, 1982 Harley XLH Chopper – Steve Litawith American Iron Garage
  • Sean Bast, 1974 Harley Chopper – Steve Lita with American Iron
  • Jeff Cochran, Speed King, Custom Shovel – Mark Infiedl with FullThrottle
  • Cindy Wing, ’66 BSA Hardtail – Pat Boylan of Thunder Press
  • Ed Carrol, Sportster Chopper – Jesse Kisser of HOT BIKE
  • Randall Shaffer, 98” 1941 Knucklehead – Mike Pullen of Bikernet
  • James Millburn, ’83 Ironhead Choppa – Jack Calfano ofBarnett’s
  • Kevin Combs, 1957 PAN/SHOVEL – George the Painter of Cycle SourceMagazine
  • Jonathon Baggett, Custom Triumph Chopper – Mike Allenof Cycle Source Magazine

The Smoke Out is filled with action. One hour it’s the PaintedLady Contest with living canvases stripped down to their thongs with Picassosmaking their art come to life.

Then the next hour is 50’s style drag racing or a beard andmustache contest. A real crowd pleaser is the minibike race. Contestants dressup in super hero costumes and compete on a 6-turn track. The Fireman, the crossdressing Nurse Rachet and the Budman all looked as good as there racing style.

The mini-bike race was stacked with competitiveracers. Race winner Cameron Carter, 31, of Blews Creek, NC wore a red, white and blue top hat, an American flag shirt and had empty cases of PabstBlue Ribbon strapped to his legs as shin guards.

2nd place Chris Griffin of Monroe, NCfashioned a medieval helmet out of a case of Budweiser and flew a Confederateflag and a marijuana-leaf flag from his green bike. The two changed positionsmultiple times throughout the 8 lap race with Carter taking the win in theexciting competition.

At about 10PM on Saturday night the festivities had wound down andI was heading to the lodge for a little R&R. As soon as I hit the frontdoor, I went for the bar and after two double Stormy Jack Daniels I turnedto my left and noticed a Dog sitting on the barstool next to me.

I wondered, for just a moment, if I was trippin. It turns out hewas waiting there for a takeout order. His companion grabbed a salad and twoorders of fried mozzarella sticks. The dog hopped off the stool and led the wayout the door and back into their room.

Soon enough the core of the working Smoke Out team were back atthe lodge and they had brought the Canadian band The Creepshow that headlinedthe event with them. Their tradition is to sit in the lobby and catch up anddrink. So within a blink of an eye there were handles of bourbon, jars of whitelightening and bottles of something from an Eastern bloc country.

I’m a lite weight when it comes to adult beverages so I decided Ineeded to stop losing the drinking games and staggered out of the lobby aroundmidnight to take a shower. Somehow the room looked different but I thought itwas because it was spinning. I cracked the shower and set it at a favorablelukewarm temperature.

I started to lather up and felt something cold on my leg. I turnedaround and saw the dog from the bar in the walk-in shower. I made a noise likea little girl and heard him growl. So, I composed myself and slowly shuffledbackwards. Now I don’t normally shower with a dog — primarily because the stallisn’t that big and sharing it with a soggy 150-pound Labrador left very littleroom to maneuver. But he loved the shower and I started sobering up prettyquickly.

I also realized that I wasn’t in my own room so I quickly dressedand left him enjoying himself.A lot of general craziness ensued during the party in the lobbylike the night manager waking up with one biker sleeping next to him in his bed. Hestarted freaking out.The biker crackedan eye open and asked if he had been taken advantage of, which freaked out thenight manager even more.

The after party is just as epic as the 3-ring circus of the SmokeOut.

Don’t miss the grandest SmokeOut explosion of all, next year for the 20th Anniversary.

The Race Of Gentlemen 2018

After a 24 hour van ride to a galaxy far, far away (aka New Jersey), we entered the new dimension in motorcycle events that just might be the savior of American motorcycling. My best bud and partner, Berry Wardlaw (“the engine guy”), side kick Dana Peters, Spike Johnson, and I set out to behold the Annual The Race of Gentlemen (TROG) in Wildwood, New Jersey. The event is a result of the vision of founder, Mel Stultz, and fellow members of the Oilers’ Car and Motorcycle Club. It was billed as a “multi-day celebration that pays tribute to the early days of racing”. Antique cars and bikes were gonna lay it all on the line to blast down an 1/8th mile beach track on the south Jersey shoreline. Naturally aspirated time machines would battle for bragging rights and maybe a trophy or two. Racing…I’m all in. Antique racing…that’s just stupid cool and worth any trip that we had to make. FIND YOUR FREEDOM BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for June 21, 2018

Hey,

I traveled to Deadwood last weekend and looked at a batch of escape properties with my son Frank. At the last minute he invited his lovely wife, Erica.

We roamed the hills looking at a myriad of Sturgis, Lead and Deadwood properties with a rider from Deadwood, Mike Perservich, and then saw a handful of houses in Deadwood on Sunday with Sue Cramer from Spearfish.

It was a completely interesting weekend with attitudes and opinions flying and my stress level accelerated. I couldn’t figure it out. I didn’t need to stress over anything, but it kept coming.

I’ve learned so much about meditation and the brain with Dr. Vishton, yet I couldn’t find time to meditate or get away this weekend. Hell, that was a major reason for searching Deadwood for a place to escape California. In a sense I wanted to escape the stress of the congestion and over-regulation on the coast and go somewhere to relax. Deadwood seemed sorta home to what’s left of the old west and the outlaw motorcycle empire.

It’s all about finding Nirvana or total peace, but you can only find it in yourself. It doesn’t come with a new address, a larger bank account or a new ride. Don’t get me wrong Deadwood is definitely going to be apart of Bandit’s next adventure.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. Most recently the Smoke Out and Quick Throttle Magazine came on board.

NEWS FROM THE CLIMATE DEPOT– Why the Sun Controls the Climate and CO2 is Meaningless

To understand AGW, one must understand quantum physics. The Greenhouse Gas Effect is the thermalization of Longwave Infrared (LWIR) Photons. LWIR is relatively long-wavelength electromagnetic (EM) radiation and having a long-wavelength, it doesn’t pack much energy into a unit of distance.

If you view a Slinky (Spring) as an Em Wave, as you pull the Slinky, the less Slinky there is per foot. If a Slinky is 6 inches fully compressed, and you stretch it to 1 foot in length, there is 1/2 the amount of Slinky per inch as a fully compressed Slinky. The more you pull the Slinky apart, the less Slinky there is per inch. If the Slinky represents a quantum of energy, the longer you stretch the Slinky the less energy you have per inch. That is how EM radiation works. Frequency is directly related to energy, and wavelength is inversely related to energy.

As we’ve mentioned countless times on this blog, to understand the climate you have to understand the oceans. The oceans, lakes and rivers cover upwards of 70% of the earth’s surface, and water is a highly effective heat sink, storing over 2,000x the energy found in the atmosphere. Very small changes to the energy in the oceans, therefore, means very big changes to the relative energy balance between the oceans and the atmosphere, and the oceans warm the atmosphere, not vice versa.

Climate alarmists point to the warming of the oceans as evidence that CO2 is the cause. The problem with that theory is that they can’t explain how LWIR between 13 and 18µ warms the oceans . LWIR between 13 and 18µ doesn’t penetrate the oceans and actually causes cooling through surface evaporation.

Additionally, LWIR between 13 and 18µ is very very low energy EM Radiation when compared to EM wavelengths that do actually penetrate and warm the oceans, wavelengths mostly at the blue end of the spectrum. CO2, in reality, is a very weak Greenhouse Gas in terms of warming the atmosphere and the oceans.

There is another problem, we are dealing with marginal gains, not absolute levels. The CO2 change from 270 to 411 ppm only accounts for a fraction of the 8kJ/mol. To make matters worse, H2O absorbs those identical wavelengths, so the LWIR between 13 and 18µ down-welling that is impacting the oceans isn’t increased/affected by CO2. H2O saturates the absorption of LWIR between 13 and 18µ in the lower atmosphere directly above the oceans. The following MODTRAN reports highlight how doubling CO2 from 400ppm to 800ppm has no impact on outgoing radiation in the lower atmosphere.

Note how the CO2 level is changed from 400ppm to 800ppm, and the upward IR heat flux remains constant at 417.306 W/M^2. No matter how the climate alarmists want to spin this con, no matter how desperate they want to believe, no matter how much lipstick they want to put on this pig, there is no way the actual physics behind the GHG Effect and the CO2 molecule will ever support their claims that CO2 is the cause of the oceans, and in turn atmosphere warming.

It all is simply a big lie. The introductory graphic of the cleaning of the atmosphere is the cause of the warming. More visible warming radiation is simply reaching the oceans. CO2 has absolutely nothing to do with it.

WE NEED THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY TO BE OPEN 24/7–
Four old retired guys are walking down a street in Yuma, Arizona . They turn a corner and see a sign that says, “Old Timers Bar – ALL drinks 10 cents.” They look at each
other, and then go in, thinking, this is too good to be true.

The old bartender says in a voice that carries across the room, “Come on in and let me pour one for you! What’ll it be, gentlemen?”

There’s a fully stocked bar, so each of the men orders a martini. In no time the bartender serves up four iced martinis – shaken, not stirred – and says, “That’ll be 10
cents each, please.”

The four guys stare at the bartender for a moment, then at each other. They can’t believe their good luck. They pay the
40 cents, finish their martinis, and order another round. Again, four excellent martinis are produced, with the bartender again saying, “That’s 40 cents, please.”

They pay The 40 cents, but their curiosity gets the better of them. They’ve each had two martinis and haven’t even spent a
dollar yet.

Finally one of them says, “How can you afford to serve martinis as good as these for a dime a piece?”

“I’m a retired tailor from Phoenix,” the bartender says, “and I always wanted to own a bar. Last year I hit the lottery jackpot for $125 million and decided to open this
place. Every drink costs a dime. Wine, liquor, beer – it’s all the same.”

“Wow! That’s some story!” one of the men says.

As the four of them sip at their martinis, they can’t help noticing seven other people at the end of the bar who don’t have any drinks in front of them and haven’t ordered anything the whole time they’ve been there.

Nodding at the seven at the end of the bar, one of the men asks the bartender, “What’s with them?”

The bartender says,

“They’re retirees from Australia.

They’re waiting for Happy Hour when drinks are half-price.”

TESLA OOOPS–Elon Musk emails employees about ‘extensive and damaging sabotage’ by employee

Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent an e-mail to all employees on Sunday night alleging there was a saboteur within the company’s ranks.
Musk alleged this employee tweaked code on internal products and sent company data out without authorization.

Tesla is in the midst of sweeping layoffs and a profitability drive. It is also under pressure to produce 5,000 Model 3s per week by the end of this quarter.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent an email to all employees on Monday morning about a factory fire, and seemed to reference possible sabotage.

Now, CNBC has learned that Musk also sent an e-mail to all employees at Tesla late on Sunday night alleging that he has discovered a saboteur in the company’s ranks.

Musk said this person had conducted “quite extensive and damaging sabotage” to the company’s operations, including by changing code to an internal product and exporting data to outsiders.

In 2016, after a SpaceX rocket exploded while being fueled up before an engine test, Musk and SpaceX COO and President Gwynne Shotwell also looked into the possibility of sabotage.

Several employees, from different divisions within Tesla, confirmed receipt of the e-mail to CNBC.

Tesla is currently ramping up production to make its previously stated goal of 5,000 Model 3s per week by the end of June. Last week, Tesla announced a broad restructuring, slashing at least 9 percent of its workforce. Workers who are actively involved in Model 3 production would not be affected, the company said.

Tesla declined to comment on the e-mail.

Here’s the full email:

From: Elon Musk

To: Everybody

Subject: Some concerning news

June 17, 2018

11:57 p.m.

I was dismayed to learn this weekend about a Tesla employee who had conducted quite extensive and damaging sabotage to our operations. This included making direct code changes to the Tesla Manufacturing Operating System under false usernames and exporting large amounts of highly sensitive Tesla data to unknown third parties.

The full extent of his actions are not yet clear, but what he has admitted to so far is pretty bad. His stated motivation is that he wanted a promotion that he did not receive. In light of these actions, not promoting him was definitely the right move.

However, there may be considerably more to this situation than meets the eye, so the investigation will continue in depth this week. We need to figure out if he was acting alone or with others at Tesla and if he was working with any outside organizations.

As you know, there are a long list of organizations that want Tesla to die. These include Wall Street short-sellers, who have already lost billions of dollars and stand to lose a lot more. Then there are the oil & gas companies, the wealthiest industry in the world — they don’t love the idea of Tesla advancing the progress of solar power & electric cars. Don’t want to blow your mind, but rumor has it that those companies are sometimes not super nice. Then there are the multitude of big gas/diesel car company competitors. If they’re willing to cheat so much about emissions, maybe they’re willing to cheat in other ways?

Most of the time, when there is theft of goods, leaking of confidential information, dereliction of duty or outright sabotage, the reason really is something simple like wanting to get back at someone within the company or at the company as a whole. Occasionally, it is much more serious.

Please be extremely vigilant, particularly over the next few weeks as we ramp up the production rate to 5k/week. This is when outside forces have the strongest motivation to stop us.

If you know of, see or suspect anything suspicious, please send a note to [email address removed for privacy] with as much info as possible. This can be done in your name, which will be kept confidential, or completely anonymously.

Looking forward to having a great week with you as we charge up the super exciting ramp to 5000 Model 3 cars per week!

Will follow this up with emails every few days describing the progress and challenges of the Model 3 ramp.

Thanks for working so hard to make Tesla successful,

CLUB NEWS–
Are you planning on attending the Motorcycle Profiling workshop on June 30, 10 am, at Hollywood’s Roadhouse in Nashotah? Are you aware that if you attended a funeral, party or other function where 1% club members were present, you might have been photographed and labeled as an associate? You don’t have to be in a motorcycle club to come under the scrutiny of the FBI and/or local authorities.

Here’s a prime example of some club members who were stopped and photographed, solely on the belief they associate with members of a 1% club in Texas. There was no other reason for the stop, and one of the officers explains they routinely stop riders based on information provided by, or requested by the FBI, for intelligence gathering.

This is totally an illegal stop, and one example of profiling. You need to attend the workshop conducted by Double D, who is indisputably recognized as the expert in motorcycle profiling issues. Learn what your rights are and how to recognize if you’re stopped illegally. You can only exercise your rights to be free from unreasonable search and seizure if you know what those rights are. Be there or be sorry.

MOTORCYCLIST FATALITIES TREND DOWNWARD–Nationwide motorcycle traffic fatalities dropped by 5.6% from 2016 to 2017, a new report shows. The Governors Highway Safety Association released a report in May showcasing preliminary data on last year’s motorcycle fatalities by state.

Per the report, U.S. motorcycle fatalities dropped by 296 deaths — from 5,286 in 2016 to a projected 4,990 last year. That’s coming off a 5.1% increase in such road fatalities from 2015 to 2016, the report states.

The figures reported are projections based on preliminary data provided for 2017 from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Compared with 2016, motorcyclist fatalities are estimated to have decreased in 30 states, remained the same in two states, and increased in 18 states.

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, put it on toast instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol and could potentially save one from heart attack. Also, even if you have already had an attack studies show you could be kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of cinnamon honey strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as one ages the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and the veins.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients can benefit by taking one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken daily even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain — and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.

As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol-could be cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses, and it’s delicious too!

UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also is said to clear stomach ulcers from its root.

GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that when Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacterial and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles (where DNA is contained) to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food is eaten relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA: A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ‘Ingredient’ which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Use four teaspoons of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of boiling water to make a tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans increase and even a 100 year old will start performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

RASPY OR SORE THROAT: When throat has a tickle or is raspy, take one tablespoon of honey and sip until gone. Repeat every three hours until throat is without symptoms.

PIMPLES: Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it off the next morning with warm water. When done daily for two weeks, it removes all pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS:Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin Infections.

WEIGHT LOSS:Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast and on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. When taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder three times a day for one month.

FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, even when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, when taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., the vitality of the body increases within a week.

BAD BREATH: People of South America, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water first thing in the morning so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

BIKERNET GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATION—CALIFORNIA

• The Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out and attacks the Governor’s dog, then bites the Governor.

• The Governor starts to intervene, but reflects upon the movie “Bambi” and then realizes he should stop because the coyote is only doing what is natural.

• He calls animal control. Animal Control captures the coyote and bills the state $200 testing it for diseases and $500 for relocating it.

• He calls a veterinarian. The vet collects the dead dog and bills the State $200 testing it for diseases.

• The Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for diseases from the coyote and on getting his bite wound bandaged.

• The running trail gets shut down for 6 months while Fish & Game conducts a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is now free of dangerous animals.

• The Governor spends $50,000 in state funds implementing a “coyote awareness program” for residents of the area.

• The State Legislature spends $2 million to study how to better treat rabies and how to permanently eradicate the disease throughout the world.

• The Governor’s security agent is fired for not stopping the attack. The state spends $150,000 to hire and train a new agent with additional special training for the nature of coyotes.

• PETA protests the coyote’s relocation and files a $5 million suit against the state.

TEXAS
• The Governor of Texas is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out and attacks his dog.

• The Governor shoots the coyote with his state-issued pistol and keeps jogging. The Governor has spent $.50 on a .45 ACP hollow point cartridge.

• The buzzards eat the dead coyote.

And that, my friends, is an example of why California is broke and Texas is not.

RED CROSS ALERT–About Heat Waves

In recent years, excessive heat has caused more deaths than all other weather events, including floods. A heat wave is a prolonged period of excessive heat, generally 10 degrees or more above average, often combined with excessive humidity.

You will likely hear weather forecasters use these terms when a heat wave is predicted in your community:

Excessive Heat Watch – Conditions are favorable for an excessive heat event to meet or exceed local Excessive Heat Warning criteria in the next 24 to 72 hours.

Heat Advisory – Heat Index values are forecasting to meet locally defined advisory criteria for 1 to 2 days (daytime highs= 100-105° Fahrenheit).
Excessive Heat Warning – Heat Index values are forecasting to meet or exceed locally defined warning criteria for at least 2 days (daytime highs= 105-110° Fahrenheit).

Before

Listen to local weather forecasts and stay aware of upcoming temperature changes.

Be aware of both the temperature and the heat index. The heat index is the temperature the body feels when the effects of heat and humidity are combined.

Discuss heat safety precautions with members of your household. Have a plan for wherever you spend time— home, work and school—and prepare for power outages.

Check the contents of your emergency disaster kit in case a power outage occurs.

Know those in your neighborhood who are elderly, young, sick or overweight. They are more likely to become victims of excessive heat and may need help.
If you do not have air conditioning, choose places you could go to for relief from the heat during the warmest part of the day (schools, libraries, theaters, malls).

Be aware that people living in urban areas may be at greater risk from the effects of a prolonged heat wave than are people living in rural areas.

Get trained in First Aid to learn how to treat heat-related emergencies.
Ensure that your animals’ needs for water and shade are met.

What To Do During a Heat Wave

Listen to a NOAA Weather Radio for critical updates from the National Weather Service (NWS).

Never leave children or pets alone in enclosed vehicles.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.

Eat small meals and eat more often.

Avoid extreme temperature changes.

Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays.

Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.

Postpone outdoor games and activities.
Use a buddy system when working in excessive heat.

Take frequent breaks if you must work outdoors.

Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning, who spend much of their time alone or who are more likely to be affected by the heat.

Check on your animals frequently to ensure that they are not suffering from the heat.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS STILL OPEN–CAKE OR BED ………

A HUSBAND IS AT HOME WATCHING A FOOTBALL GAME WHEN HIS WIFE INTERRUPTS, “HONEY, COULD YOU FIX THE LIGHT IN THE HALLWAY? IT’S BEEN FLICKERING FOR WEEKS NOW.”

HE LOOKS AT HER AND SAYS ANGRILY, “FIX THE LIGHTS NOW?
DOES IT LOOK LIKE I HAVE ‘GE’ WRITTEN ON MY FOREHEAD?
I DON’T THINK SO.”

“FINE,” THEN THE WIFE ASKS, “WELL THEN, COULD YOU FIX THE FRIDGE DOOR? IT WON’T CLOSE RIGHT.”

TO WHICH HE REPLIES, “FIX THE FRIDGE DOOR?
DOES IT LOOK LIKE I HAVE ‘WESTINGHOUSE’ WRITTEN ON MY FOREHEAD?
I DON’T THINK SO.”

“FINE,” SHE SAYS, “THEN YOU COULD AT LEAST FIX THE STEPS TO THE FRONT DOOR?
THEY ARE ABOUT TO BREAK.”

“I’M NOT A CARPENTER AND I DON’T WANT TO FIX STEPS.”
HE SAYS, “DOES IT LOOK LIKE I HAVE ‘HOME HARDWARE’ WRITTEN ON MY FOREHEAD?
I DON’T THINK SO – I’VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOU.
I’M GOING TO THE BAR!!!!”

SO HE GOES TO THE BAR AND DRINKS FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS…………………. .. ……

HE STARTS TO FEEL GUILTY ABOUT HOW HE TREATED HIS WIFE, AND DECIDES TO GO HOME.

AS HE WALKS UP TO THE HOUSE HE NOTICES THAT THE STEPS ARE ALREADY FIXED.

AS HE ENTERS THE HOUSE, HE SEES THE HALL LIGHT IS WORKING.

AS HE GOES TO GET A BEER, HE NOTICES THE FRIDGE DOOR IS FIXED.

“HONEY,” HE ASKS, “HOW’D ALL THIS GET FIXED?”

SHE SAYS, “WELL, WHEN YOU LEFT I SAT OUTSIDE AND CRIED.
JUST THEN A NICE YOUNG MAN ASKED ME WHAT WAS WRONG, AND I TOLD HIM.”

“HE OFFERED TO DO ALL THE REPAIRS, AND ALL I HAD TO DO WAS EITHER
GO TO BED WITH HIM OR BAKE HIM A CAKE.”

HE SAYS, “SO WHAT KIND OF CAKE DID YOU BAKE?”

SHE REPLIES, “HELLOOOOO… DO YOU SEE ‘BETTY CROCKER’ WRITTEN ON MY FOREHEAD?”

NMA ALERTA License Plate to Remember —
The National Motorists Association received some thoughtful comments from readers like you and thought we should share them.

Editor’s Note: The opinions expressed in this newsletter are those of the author.

I enjoyed reading today’s NMA Weekly E-Newsletter. Another topic that has hit several people I have worked with and a neighbor is selling your vehicle to an individual and just signing over the title without going to the tax/title office and completing the paperwork to OFFICIALLY transfer the title into the other party’s name.

A neighbor (when I lived in Michigan) sold his car to an individual for cash and signed the title and listed the mileage and date. The buyer drove off. About a year later he gets a knock on the door one evening and he is presented with a lawsuit as HIS vehicle was involved in an “at fault” accident in Alabama.

The driver of his vehicle (title was never transferred) caused the accident and didn’t have insurance and neither did my neighbor as he thought the other party would title the vehicle as promised and neighbor had cancelled insurance on the vehicle. It ended up costing my neighbor several thousand dollars for an attorney in Alabama and damages to get out from under this incident. Similar situation happened to two folks I have worked with here in Texas.

NEVER just sign over the title without completing the transfer paperwork at the tax/title office. I lost a sale on my 1975 VW Bug because the buyer didn’t want to wait and come get the car during the week when tax/title office was open. He wanted to get it on a Saturday when tax/title office is closed.

Selling your car to a dealer is a totally different situation as long as you have paperwork showing the vehicle was sold to them outright or used as a down payment/trade-in for another vehicle.

This edition clearly shows mission creep when the bureaucrats do not pay attention to the details of their charters. And when the bureaucrats ignore their legal boundaries while relying on technology alone, it doesn’t help.

–Anonymous, NMA California Member

We have had more of a positive experience with license plate readers. Our vacation home is in an area with lots of uninsured vehicles, drunk drivers, drugged drivers, and drivers who have had their license to drive revoked due to alcohol or drugs. Accident rates were high and there was no way to go after the other driver if you get hit.

The local police bought license plate readers and they have been extremely busy stopping these drivers and taking them off the road. It’s now a much safer place to drive. I really don’t care if they pick up my plate coming back from the grocery store. This is a small price to pay to be able to safely drive on public roads.

–Jim Burton, NMA New Hampshire Member

Good article. Thank you.

Just shows how bureaucracy is so convoluted it’s nearly impossible to deal with……..all run by public “servants”.

My wife and I had a similar problem with the IRS. Someone entered our gross pay backwards in their system. (My pay next to her name & vice versa.) We had the W-2s, as did they. Easy fix, right? Took ONE YEAR to get it straightened out, with all kinds of complications, wasted time, and frustration along the way.

Life just keeps getting more and more (unnecessarily) difficult, and getting worse by the day. Universal surveillance and total loss of privacy is only going to multiply these kinds of problems exponentially.

Thank all of you for all you do for us motorists.

–David Snellings, NMA Maryland Member

I had a similar thing happen here in Texas. I sold a motorcycle and years later I got a toll bill showing it going through a camera toll system. Even though the title had been changed to the new owner he kept the plate…..maybe didn’t even register it again.

In Texas the plate goes with the vehicle sold. HOWEVER, you can (& I recommend it!) file, on-line, with the DMV that you have sold the vehicle, using the VIN#. That act removes all future responsibility for the vehicle/plate from you.

When I wrote back that I had filed with the DMV the toll bill went away. Why, given that I HAD filed with the DMV, I even got the bill????

Just data bases not talking together.

ANOTHER CLIMATE DEPOT SPECIAL ALERT–Effort to turn weathermen into climate activists fraught with bad science & backed by RICO supporting professor & funded by taxpayers

NBC News is hyping a report that claims meteorologists are supporting the George Mason and Climate Central effort to promote climate change fears on your nightly weather forecast. See: ‘Global warming,’ now brought to you by local TV weathercaster

The climate information being promoted by the activist meteorologists is highly suspect and the groups behind the effort have supported shutting down any scientific debate by supporting RICO statures against skeptics and they have benefited greatly from federal funding of their efforts.

The information the meteorologists are peddling is pure propaganda, as the video accompanying the article shows a montage of weather forecasters using a 1970 start date to claim warming temperatures. Ever wonder why they chose 1970 as the start date?

Here is why:

Cheating For Dollars At Climate Central: ‘The 1970 cherry picking scam has become a centerpiece of the global warming fraud. The 1970s was one of the coldest decades in US history’ – By Tony Heller – ‘By starting in 1970, Climate Central is intentionally defrauding their readers. Had they started in 1950, there would be almost no warming shown Also important to remember that all recent temperatures are jacked up by 0.5F Bottom line is there has been little or no long term warming in the US’

But just who is behind this effort to turn your local TV weatherman into an Al Gore spouting climate fear promoter?

Climate Depot and the new book ‘The Politically Incorrect Guide to Climate Change,’ reveal the answers to these questions.

NBC News describes thusly the effort to turn your local weatherman into a mini Al Gore: “Key to the shift has been Climate Central, the nonprofit that helped school LaPointe. The Princeton, New Jersey-based organization sponsors classes and webinars for meteorologists and also shares real-time data and graphics with TV stations. The group has reached more than 500 local TV weathercasters — about a quarter of those working in the U.S. — since it started its “Climate Matters” education program in 2012, and it is expanding this week to a wider group of journalists.”

Who is Climate Central? A climate activist group funded by the federal tax dollars that helps promote climate fears.

See: Climate Central’s ‘Heavy Funding’ From Feds – ‘There is evidently heavy funding as well from Federal organizations. So taxpayers are having to pay Climate Central to produce what is often grossly inaccurate and misleading propaganda, which in turn supports the Federal Government’s agenda.’

NBC News touts George Mason professor Ed Maibach as “the climate change center’s director” at the University.

Who is Ed Maibach and just who is behind the effort to turn your weather forecast into nightly climate propaganda?

Excerpt: “Maibach, you may be surprised to learn, is no climate scientist but has a BA in social psychology from University of California, and a PhD in communication research from Stanford University.” According to the Centre’s blurb: “Ed joined the George Mason University faculty in 2007 to create the Center for Climate Change Communication. Trained in public health and communication…”

Maibach was also a signatory of the infamous letter to President Obama urging the use of RICO statutes against climate skeptics.

See: Flashback: Debate no more! Jailed for scientific dissent?! Twenty climate scientists, including Top UN scientist Dr. Kevin Trenberth, & George Mason’s Ed Maibach, call for RICO investigation of climate skeptics in letter to Obama – Via Politico: ‘Twenty climate scientists called for RICO investigation in a letter to Obama and U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch.”

Maibach’s funding also raises questions:

Excerpt: “This is one hell of a high powered effort to push out global warming propaganda, and heaven knows what it all costs. Amongst its providers of major funding are listed NASA, the National Science Foundation and private foundations such as Grantham Foundation and Rockefeller Family Fund. It could hardly be a more incestuous relationship. NASA pumps funding into the Center in order to persuade the public of the terrors of global warming, which in turn will help to maintain their own funding, which can then be used to further ramp up the scare. It is no wonder Mr Maibach is so keen to sign the (RICO) letter, and silence skeptics”

The Horseless SMOKEOUT 19 Kills It in Rockingham–Exercising the moral code of a Detroit hooker The Horse Magazine ended its partnership with the Smoke Out Rally and then tried to convince the world the event was not happening at all.

It was a sucky situation but a Mark Twain quote comes to mind, “The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.” This year’s Smoke Out was bigger, and more importantly better in every way. The feeling of carefree fun seemed to return to the event with the exit of Mz Debo.

Years ago, Edge, the head cook and bottle washer of the Smoke Out Rally tapped me to run the custom bike show. No one knew what to expect in terms of bike entries or attendance this year. Obviously, I was blown away by the response of the biker community. I knew the Smoke Out would always have its fans. However, this year’s bike show was more epic than I could have ever guessed.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Forkner On The Hunt For Top Step of The Podium--Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner is ready to continue his podium streak this weekend at Muddy Creek Raceway in Blountville, Tennessee after coming off his first overall podium finish in Pennsylvania one week ago.

With rain forecast for the days leading into the race, Muddy Creek Raceway is ready to live up to its name. Teammate Joey Savatgy is eyeing a comeback in Tennessee after finishing outside the top 10 last weekend. Garrett Marchbanks will sit out this weekend’s round to allow more time to heal up and reevaluate his return next week.

Last year, Forkner finished the race in Tennessee with a pair of thirds and is looking to improve on that finish on Saturday. With the momentum in his favor and confidence on the rise, Forkner would love nothing more than to take home his first race win of the season this weekend.

“I’m hoping the second moto at High Point proved that I won’t ever give up until the checkered flag,” said Forkner. “There are a lot of talented guys out there, but I know that I have the speed to be at the front every weekend. The start is another tricky one so I’m hoping to stay out of trouble and be at the front early.”

Savatgy had a strong showing in the opening moto at Round 4, but his overall score didn’t show that after going down. His outlook has always been to focus on the positive and with his come-from-behind ride in Moto 1, there are plenty of good things to take away from that weekend to bring into Tennessee.

“It’s been a battle of one good moto and one not so good moto the past few races,” said Savatgy. “This weekend, I really want to get in two solid races and put my KX250F back where it belongs – on the podium.”

The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders will be signing autographs at Atlas Cycle in Bristol, Virginia on Friday, June 22 from 6-7 p.m.

Saturday’s race from Muddy Creek Raceway will be broadcast on MAVTV and NBC Sports starting at 1 p.m. ET.

NEW HAMPSHIRE BANS MOTORCYCLE-ONLY ROADSIDE CHECKPOINTS–Motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints first appeared in New York in 2009; functioning like sobriety checkpoints, motorcycle-only checkpoints (MOC) allow law enforcement to pull over motorcyclists without cause, for an on-the-spot safety, license, and helmet inspection. Since then, these so-called safety checkpoints have popped up across the country and have spiked controversy as opponents claim invasion of privacy and discrimination against motorcyclists over the operators of other motor vehicles.

Nineteen states now bar such roadblocks either through legislation or judicial proceedings (AK CA IL ID IA LA MD MO MI MN NC NH OR RI TX VA WA WI & WY), and in 2015 Congress banned the use of federal funds for MOCs as part of the FAST Act highway bill. Yet they continue to be a problem for bikers in some states.

Although in 2011 New Hampshire became the first state to prohibit the use of federal funds to conduct discriminatory motorcycle-only stops by police, the “Live Free Or Die” state recently enacted Senate Bill 516 to prohibit motorcycle-only checkpoints outright.

Signed by Governor Chris Sununu on May 30, 2018, effective immediately; “No law enforcement officer or agency shall establish or conduct motorcycle-only checkpoints.”

HORNY couple joins Mile High Club in full view of passengers--Fasten your seatbelts, this flight will get frisky!

Two amorous passengers were apparently so desperate to join the Mile High Club, they did so in the comfort of their seats, in full view of a stunned couple who recorded their romp — and then sent it to their adult daughter.

“My mom and dad were just trying to have a peaceful trip to Mexico and then they sent me this,” Kiley Tully wrote along with a shocking clip she posted on Twitter.

The 45-second selfie video, which has received almost 3.6 million views, caught the couple in flagrante delicto as the woman straddles her partner at the back of the unidentified airliner.

The brunette, clad in a white outfit, is clearly seen thrusting up and down on the man two rows behind Tully’s parents, who look at each other in amazement at the in-flight entertainment.

At one point, the camera pans toward the front of the plane to show the rest of the passengers, who are apparently oblivious to the turbulence a few rows back.

Florida-based Silver Airways confirmed to The Post that the video was taken on one of its planes.

“We are taking this very seriously and working to determine the legitimacy of the video and specific flight information,” airline spokeswoman Misty Stoller said in a statement.

Twitter users did take note, however, with Izabela Olejnik writing: “Flight attendant: you guys need anything? Some snacks? A condom?”

“I guess they weren’t flying Virgin airlines huh??? I’ll show myself out,” @BamboozleIdiot quipped.

One user even suggested that Mexico’s upset win over Germany in the World Cup played a role in the action.

“Mexico victory brings out the best in humanity,” Joel Montes wrote.

Tully did not respond to requests for comment by The Post.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY IS STILL OPEN–A young woman brought her fiancé home to meet her parents. After dinner, her
mother told the girl’s father to find out about the young man.

The father invited the fiancé to his study for a talk.

“So, what are your plans?” the father asked the young man.

“I am a biblical scholar,” he replied.

“A biblical scholar, hmmm?” the father said. “Admirable, but what will you do to provide a nice house for my daughter to live in?”

“I will study,” the young man replied, “and God will provide for us.”

“And how will you buy her a beautiful engagement ring, such as she
deserves?” asked the father.

“I will concentrate on my studies,” the young man replied, “God will provide for us.”

“And children?” asked the father. “How will you support children?”

“Don’t worry, sir, God will provide,” replied the fiancé.

The conversation proceeded like this…and each time the father questioned, the young idealist insisted that God would provide.

Later, the mother asked, “How did your talk go, honey?”

The father answered, “another Democrat, He has no job, he has no plans, and he thinks I’m God.”

EXCLUSIVE: An “ugly” chapter that didn’t make the Bestseller Book: The Politically Incorrect Guide to Climate Change

Marc Morano of Climate Deport has given me exclusive publication of this special chapter, that is not included in the book. It details all of the comparisons to Holocaust deniers and RICO and death threats, etc. against climate skeptics. He writes:

I think it is one of my favorite chapters, but the book was too long to include it.

Excerpts:

The Earth does not have a fever. Scientific evidence simply doesn’t support the belief that man-made climate change is a catastrophic threat to the planet. And unreliable climate models are poor substitutes for actual data.

Then why don’t more scientists buck the “consensus”? The answer is simple. Anyone who questions the climate change scare is attacked and threatened. As more and more scientists speak out, dissenting from the climate change orthodoxy, the attacks against them have increased.

Climate campaigners seem to think: If you can’t counter the message, silence the messenger. From smears to intimidation to name-calling to lawsuits and threats of criminal prosecution, climate activists are leaving no stone unturned. Activists—and “reporters” for theoretically objective media outlets— have targeted skeptical scientists.

Many climate activists find the idea of jailing skeptics appealing. In 2014, the warmist Gawker website urged, “Arrest Climate-Change Deniers”; said “Those denialists should face jail”; called global warming skeptics “Criminally negligent”; and argued, “It’s time to punish the climate-change liars.”

Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki called for government leaders skeptical of global warming to be “thrown in jail”: “I really believe that people like the former prime minister of Canada should be thrown in jail for willful blindness,” Suzuki said in 2016. In 2017, climate activist John Gilkison at EV World accused me of “crimes against humanity” for “retarding any meaning action to mitigate climate change.” A list of those who dissented on man-made climate change, including my old boss Senator James Inhofe, were slated for a 2029 “trial.”

One climate activist predicted that skeptics will be lynched. “As climate impacts continue to become clearer to the general populace, fossil fuel executives, and climate mis-informers who have played a part in this catastrophe, may some time soon prefer a safe jail cell to the torches and pitchforks that are coming their way,” wrote Peter Sinclair of the climate fear–promoting website Climate Denial Crock of the Week.

On June 5, 2009, former Clinton administration official Joe Romm of Climate Progress defended a posting on his website warning that climate skeptics would be strangled in bed for rejecting the view that we face a man-made climate crisis. “An entire generation will soon be ready to strangle you and your kind while you sleep in your beds,” he warned.

ANTI-TAMPERING AND THE CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES BOARD–CARB didn’t establish motorcycle engine emission standards until January 1, 1978, when the U.S. EPA enacted motorcycle engine emission standards.

Anti-Tampering laws were passed in 1976 and California is planning to start to enforce them back to ’76.

As big a problem as that is — these violations fall under the definition of “strict liability”:

1. Strict liability means that a violation does not depend on proving one’s guilt, innocence, or intent to violate, but instead CARB only needs to establish that the violation occurred, and that the person (or business) was responsible.

2. And to make it worse, CARB may hold anyone in the supply chain responsible when race vehicles or (uncertified) parts are used illegally.

CLASSIC TRIUMPH ARTICLE COMING TO BIKERNET–All my historical pics and info are of Triumph bikes, the result of that calendar I’ve done for 20+ years.

I could do a story on the Speed Twin – the first real vertical twin to reach production, and the basis for all the twins Triumph produced from ’38 to the closing of the doors in ’83 – might be a good history lesson.

I suspect your demographic includes numerous baby boomers who either owned a Triumph back in the day, or at least wanted one.

Let me know if you’re OK with my idea.

Overnight DAIRY QUEEN Just Enraged Every Democrat With New Warning Sign–There was a time when social media was used to post funny pictures of our kids, adorable pet videos, and of course, the obligatory dinner plate, however, now it has been taken over by social justice warriors.

We have all seen these keyboard warriors online with their unchecked virtue signaling and shrill screams that everyone is a racist or bigot that voted for Donald Trump. These entitled leftists scour the county looking for ways to be offended in order to post it online for all to see. So, when one Wisconsin Dairy Queen posted a politically incorrect sign in their window it was inevitable that liberals would soon be triggered, and of course, we were not disappointed.

Wisconsin Dairy Queen owner Kevin Scheunemann has created quite the stir on social media and it was not for his delicious frozen treats. Scheunemann posted on his door a sign that the left would deem as politically incorrect, and in all reality, it isn’t. The simple sign consists of a list of sayings and core values that the majority of Americans in our country hold dear, but leave it a liberal to find that offensive.

“I felt the sign was appropriate to hang in terms of being transparent about the views of the owner and staff supporting God and country,” Scheunemann explained to CBS 58.

“It just seems that those kinds of values and principles are becoming controversial in society,” he added.

The sign has hung there for the last four years without a problem, but that streak ended about a week ago when one snowflake saw the sign and took to social media to complain. Ashley Coleman saw the sign hanging outside the door and was triggered by the sentiment and needed to take a snapshot of the sign.

“I find this extremely offensive,” whined an Oregon woman who goes by the name Ashley Coleman on Facebook. “Please speak with the franchise owner,” she added.

The post quickly picked up steam on Facebook as over a thousand people shared it and over two people commented, but if Coleman thought the town would get behind her she would be sorely mistaken. In fact, the community in this small town has rallied around the Dairy Queen seemingly in agreement with sign’s views.

Daily Wire reported:

“Business is good,” noted local CBS reporter Julie Parise, “thanks in part to a sign that’s hanging on the front door.”

Business owners in the area also came to Scheunemann’s defense.

“He posted it on the door so you see it before you walk in,” said local store owner April Serwe. “You don’t have to walk in if you don’t agree with it.”

Some Kewaskum residents even said the sign is unnecessary since most all of them “share the same values,” notes CBS 58.

“In this small community, I don’t think it’s a problem,” said local Liz Torrison. “We’re all just liking each other and having fun.”

Honda to Bring Monkey and Super Cub C125 to U.S.–No, you’re not having flashbacks. Hearkening back to the days when you’d meet the nicest people on a Honda, the chrome-fendered, high-piped Monkey (available in Banana Yellow, naturally) and the classic Super Cub C125 will be available in the U.S. in celebration of American Honda’s 60th Anniversary.

THE ACTION NEVER STOPS—We’ve been hit with new internet taxes from Wisconsin. It may mean that in the future we can no longer deal with companies or customers in Wisconsin. But tonight I listened to the Supreme Court debate. South Dakota is considering the same.

I’m now forced to pay my bookkeeper, my accountant, a Wisconsin accountant, a Wisconsin consultant, and the state. I’ll let you know what happens.

But wait, watch for the Race of Gentlemen on Bikernet this evening. And the SmokeOut coverage later tomorrow.

Hang on for this one. Eric Bennett just bought this Keith Ruxton rebuilt, Jammer/Easyriders Streamliner engine and is building a bike for the Tennessee Revival event. More reports are coming up. We helped with some 4-speed trans parts.

There are parties tonight. The Commander of the SmokeOut is arriving tomorrow. Michael Lichter will return after Born Free on Sunday and we will visit local shops.

But for now I’ll have a Gentlemen Jack and relax.

All race bikes had to be pre 1945 with period carbs, foot clutch/tank shifts, only OEM frames, forks, wheels, mechanical drum brakes, and period fasteners. Correct ignition systems/magnetos right down to plug wires was enforced in the list of acceptable parts. Even the tires had to be period or have period tread patterns. Keeping with the vintage appearance, paint had to reflect the early days of racing and all fenders had to be bobbed. The cars had to be 1934 or older bodies with the same OEM and era correct restrictions. Excited? You bet.

Planned events included Friday’s registration and tech inspection on Atlantic Avenue followed by ‘Night of the Troglodytes”, a 60’s and 70’s chopper bike show at the Binn’s Motel. Saturday’s events all took place on the beach with the “Customs By The Sea” car show during the day and a bonfire party happening after sundown. But this weekend was all about the racing and Saturday’s test and tune passes on the shore and Sunday’s punch the pedal, twist the wrist bracket races were sure to be the cat’s ass. The four of us bailed from our four wheeled detention center Friday at 3AM and snagged forty winks (okay, twelve winks). Standing on the motel balcony , I heard the unmistakable sound of 45 V-Twins and flathead V8s powering through the streets before I saw them. Berry was already doing his best impression of a 6 year old getting ready to go to the circus. I’ll just leave you with that visual.

Riding the 1200 miles to the event on my ‘50 and Berry’s ‘41 would have been the way to roll in but, when travelin’ with “the engine guy”, transportation of tools sometimes takes precedence over riding pleasure. This was one of those times. Billy Lane was racing his beautifully built ‘37 W complimented by an Accurate Engineering/Berry Wardlaw built engine and was still en route from Daytona. We had plenty of time to enjoy the gathering for registration and tech inspection before any race prep could begin. The pre-war cars, hotrods, gassers, knuckles, flatheads, Indians and even racing legends filled the street. Rattle-can paint job bikes that dot a traditional modern motorcycle rally were everywhere! Greasy, knock-the-rust-off racers were lined up next to fiery rat rods. Custom 4-bangers and belly tankers fell in next to growlin’, tank-shifting, obsolete sleds. Racing and customizing legend, Gene Whitfield, Aaron Kaufman, Rick Petko, Matt Walksler and a full range of talented builders, gear heads, speed junkies, and cats who just wanted to be a part of it all mingled til late afternoon. Can you have too much fun? Yep. Did it.

The “Night of the Troglodytes” party boasted 60’s and 70’s rides that recalled a time when long front ends ruled, lace paint jobs were the coolest, chrome was king, and bikers had tall sissy bar envy. Upswept pipes, bad ass graphics, and king/queen seats were all represented. Dave Perewitz hung out and accepted the girls’…I mean, the crowds’ affection. Set the time machine to 1972. Mission accomplished. But I was ready for the relative comfort of my motel. Billy and Warren Lane (a hugely talented builder in his own right) had rolled in from Florida with Fast Freddie (God Speed Racing). Tom Keefer (Franklin Church Choppers) and Rick Petko joined the mix and it was on. Racing, wrenching, and motor specs were all that was discussed in a mature manner. Um, I’m lying. I had a motel room full full of men that had just turned 14 years-old again with all of the adolescent enthusiasm that comes that age. Now, there’s a memorable evening…into morning.

Saturday… Race Day! Well, test and tune day.  Cars for the Customs By The Sea car show, race cars and race bikes were the only vehicles allowed on the beach. They entered through a tunnel and were ushered to their respective areas starting about 7AM. No tool trucks or support vehicles allowed. Pedestrians walked the vast expanse of beach from the boardwalk to the racers area. We made the long, sandy, haul early, cruised through the gates, and arrived in heaven.

Pit passes were available to the general public and apparently the number sold was unlimited. The place was swamped. The staging area for the racers was confined behind a fence that saved them from the absolute chaos of hundreds who wanted to get up close and personal with the racers and their machines. Gritty, loud, and raw…perfect. Crowded and sketchy…not so perfect. In an attempt to shelter the racers from the madness, security manned all accesses to the shore. The problem was that a true mechanic’s pit pass was just the same as Joe Farmer from Iowa’s pit pass. True race team members Without an act of God or incredible luck, all were excluded from shore access. As a member of the press and standing at a demure 5 foot nothing, it meant creative photography, lens changes, and turning on whatever charm I had penetrate the 10 person deep mass that crowded the fence areas. Frustrating? Yup. Fun anyway? Hell, yeah.

Dead low tide was at 10:30 but the racing was well underway by then. Antique bikes and pre-war cars lined up two by two to be unleashed by “Flag Girl” Sara Francello. Sara added an unanticipated authenticity to the scene. She staged ‘em at the line and fired ‘em off with a jumping flag drop that she repeated throughout the weekend. Give that girl a beer! Pass after pass blasted down the beach as thousands of spectators perched on steep man-made sand dunes and pressed up against the fence cheered them on. It was all fun and games, until it wasn’t.

It was getting later in the day and the tide had been rising since dead low. By 3PM, the waves were lapping at the left boots of the racers in the far lane. Jeremiah Armenta (Love’s Cycles) pulled away from the line for another pass, went into a tank slapper, and high sided. A silent crowd looked on as he rode an ambulance stretcher off the beach. His was the last pass of the day as mother nature reclaimed the beach until Sunday.

A warm Saturday night, a cool ocean breeze, and a hundred and fifty of like minded gas and grease enthusiasts set the scene for the beach bonfire party. I remember a great live band and mind erasing alcohol consumed mostly in shots. Case in point, a midnight ride on a wooden roller coaster on the boardwalk in New Jersey followed by great friends and tales of tank-shifting on the sandy surface completed the night. My bucket list just got shorter.

We were licking our wounds on Sunday morning but anticipation overtook any lingering effects of the bonfire festivities. Bracket races awaited us on the shore. My alarm clock was the sound of Billy and Rick firing up their 45s and and heading to the tunnel entrance. Upon reaching the pit area entrance, we were denied access. WTF! Only racers were allowed beyond the gate…no pit crews, no support crews, no family, no press, no exceptions. Okay, 2 exceptions: hand picked members of the press (big hotrod magazine reps who had gotten unlimited access throughout the event) and one mechanic per racer. Berry waited patiently by the gate for Billy as each mechanic had to be escorted personally by the racer. People who had paid for pit access for the weekend were more than disappointed and calls for refunds were widely ignored by the staff as press and spectators joined the fray on in the already crowded viewing areas. I was angered at first but, reflecting on the previous day’s circus of bedlam and fervor, I totally got it. Maneuvering through ruts of deep, loose sand while riding a foot clutch without shooting out on the other side is a brutal dance. Avoiding folks who don’t understand that and walk directly in front of of you, is even more difficult. It was much better for the racers, but in the American racing tradition where family and support teams have always part of the fabric of a day on the track, a clear call for distinction of pit passes and a limit to the number of sold to spectators was well founded. As a result of Jeremiah’s sandy roll, helmets were now inspected for DOT approval. The scramble was on for many racers who followed the prior rules for authentic period appearance lids to secure headgear.

But the bracket racing was on. I spit out the bad taste in my mouth resulting from the new restrictions/exclusions, and hunted for a vantage point. The surface was groomed and the passes were fast. Racers were jamming through the gears and throwing up rooster tails. Although the sight of these antiques cracking open throttles and punching the pedals for all they were worth again and again was now common place, I found myself amazed and excited with each race. It was a truly fabulous sight and sound for any enthusiast whether they were familiar with the old bikes and cars or not. It was a great time, until it wasn’t.

Atsushi “Sushi” Yasui, a veteran TROG racer and winner of prior TROG events, made his pass and was really hooked up. Toward the end of his run, he washed out and rolled his bike. He was motionless on the sand and hurried off to hospital making the second ambulance trip of the weekend. Talk was that he might loose his eye and concerns were for his concussion. This crash shut down the races for the day and the whole event. Sarah would drop the checked flag no more.

What a weekend. No big wheel baggers blaring music so loud that the devil himself would cover his ears. There were no LED lit late models with more money invested in chrome than I have invested in my 401K. No trailered cream puffs. I saw no “show me your tits” signs surrounded by testosterone impaired guys that go home with only chrome and breast pics on their iPhones. Babes were not the stars of this show and the testosterone was all focused on antique machines, speed, history, heritage, and twisting the throttle on the sand. In other words, life was as it should be.

In a strange twist, the future just might be saved by the past. Spectators rode in on mostly Harleys and Indians and there was only a small sampling of sport bikes. What grabbed my attention was the number of young guys that had gotten bikes that might otherwise have been forgotten and made them their own. They pounded metal in their garages sitting on milk crates. They took these projects from tired and neglected to refreshed and rolling. Their scooters were Harleys, old Triumphs, a few vintage BSAs, and a smattering of vintage Japanese bikes and were all personal attestations to their ingenuity and grit. They had the passion of us older garage builders that had to hammer metal to customize or repair our rides. Back then, only a Jammer catalogue had offerings for your bike that weren’t OEM. Those parts never fit right and we had no cash for them anyway. So we hammered, cut, and drilled our way to make our stuff run or simply stand out. This rediscovered passion and the promise of going fast has brought a whole new bunch of lambs into the fold. Old is cool. Rust is righteous. Greasy is acceptable. Welcome to the family.

But who won The Race of Gentlemen 2018? Well, everyone did…racers, exhibitors, spectators, everyone! Now, who won the battle on the sand? And then there were 2. Sushi and Jeremiah, both of whom were beat up and wearing their battle scars well, shared the winning laurels for the weekends events. They were bestowed the honor in their hospital digs and their picture with the TROG banner was shared by all racers and spectators alike. (I can’t publish the shot in this article as I haven’t yet received permission from TROG so here’s a link to their smilin’ mugs. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bj5KikXBHkB/ ) Wishing y’all a quick recovery. See ya next year.

MOTORCYCLIST FATALITIES TREND DOWNWARD

Nationwide motorcycle traffic fatalities dropped by 5.6% from 2016 to 2017, a new report shows.

E15 ETHANOL PROTECTION PROPOSED IN CONGRESS

U.S. Representatives Austin Scott (R-GA) and Lois Frankel (D-FL) have introduced the bipartisan “Consumer Protection and Fuel Transparency Act of 2018” to require the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to expand consumer awareness on how to safely use fuel containing more than 10% ethanol.

Since motorcycle and ATV engines are prohibited from using fuel with more than 10% ethanol content, namely E15 (fuel containing 15% ethanol), improved labeling, fuel pump safeguards, and education outreach are key to protecting consumers. E15 fuel is sold at many retail gas stations, and currently 63% of consumers assume all products sold at these stations are safe for their engines despite the fact that high ethanol fuel blends can damage smaller engines and void manufacturer warranties.

RETALIATORY TARIFFS WOULD ‘SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT’ HARLEY-DAVIDSON

With the full support of all 28 member states, the European Union will impose “rebalancing” tariffs on U.S. imports ranging from Harley-Davidson motorcycles to Levi’s jeans beginning in July in retaliation over President Donald Trump’s decision to put duties on European aluminum and steel. After failing to win trade concessions, on June 1 the Trump administration withdrew exemptions given to imported metals from the EU, Canada and Mexico from global tariffs imposed in March, citing “national security” interests.

Harley-Davidson has warned of a “significant impact” on its sales from reprisal duties, saying in a statement; “We believe a punitive, retaliatory tariff on Harley-Davidson motorcycles in any of our major markets would have a significant impact on our sales, our dealers, our suppliers and our customers in those markets.”

The Milwaukee-based Motor Company claims such tariffs on raw materials would inflate its costs by an additional $15-20 million this year.

Likewise, India is countering the Trump tariffs by proposing an increase on import duty on 30 American products, including “specific motorcycles imported from the U.S.”, by up to 100%.

MIC, CONGRESSIONAL MOTORCYCLE CAUCUS CONFER ON AUTOMATED TECH

The Motorcycle Industry Council, in coordination with the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus, hosted a briefing on “Intelligent Transportation Systems and Automated Vehicle Applications Impacts on Motorcycle Safety” on May 22. Caucus co-chairs, U.S. Representatives Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Michael Burgess (R-TX) addressed the Caucus’s mission to support riders through education and awareness, the potential for technologies to improve the riding experience and bring in new riders, and why the discussion on how motorcycles will factor into a connected and autonomous world is so important.

The briefing, moderated by Callie Hoyt, MIC’s manager of federal affairs, featured a panel of industry and research experts: Sam Campbell, BMW Group; Gary Higgins, American Honda Motor Company, Inc.; Shane McLaughlin, Virginia Tech Transportation Institute; and Eric Teoh, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

“Visibility on the road can equate to life or death for motorcyclists, and human error is a major factor in that equation. If emerging connected and automated technologies are developed to correctly detect and respond to motorcycles, their deployment holds the potential to considerably decrease motorcyclist injury and fatality rates,” Hoyt said.

Panelists discussed how connected and autonomous applications relate to motorcycles, how the applications can supplement one another, and the overall effect that widespread connected and automated technology can have on motorcycling.

Both the House and Senate have been developing legislation that would establish the first federal regulatory framework for autonomous vehicle (AV) technologies. The briefing recognized the importance of ensuring that the needs of everyone on the road — particularly motorcyclists — are addressed in AV legislative and regulatory landscapes, as well as in real-life applications.

Advanced technology will also affect motorcycle rider training programs, and the panel talked about the need to train riders on how to interact with connected and automated vehicles.

AUTOMATED VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY SHOWING UP ON MOTORCYCLES TOO

It’s not only cars and trucks: automated tech is starting to show up wherever there are wheels, and companies are starting to focus on making motorcycles safer with automated-driving technology. Exposed to the elements and operating on two wheels instead of four, motorcyclists are particularly defenseless in the event of a crash. Yet there’s been little innovation in the motorcycle safety industry until recently.

Earlier this year, major auto parts supplier Bosch announced it was working on driver-assistance systems for motorcycles, like adaptive cruise control, which accelerates and decelerates to avoid potential collisions. Before that, a Canadian startup called Damon X Labs also launched with the intention of creating a similar system for motorcycles.

Now, Israel-based startup Ride Vision is also working on rider safety features for motorcycles, creating an alert system that uses relatively inexpensive front- and rearview cameras to give a 360-degree view of the motorcycle’s immediate surroundings. The system uses lights attached to the motorcycle’s rearview mirrors to alert the motorcyclist when there is a chance of collision — whether there’s a car passing or if the rider is leaning too hard.

Skully Technologies, an Atlanta-based wearable tech company, is introducing a DOT certified motorcycle helmet that has augmented reality and artificial intelligence features including a heads-up display, rearview camera, Smart Phone and Bluetooth integration, with hands-free control and other smart technology.

While some of the self-driving sensors and systems are the same between cars and motorcycles, it’s a notably different product says recode.net; “While the mechanics are different, the automated motorcycle industry will likely move in a similar direction as the autonomous car industry. Startups and suppliers alike will rush to partner with major motorcycle manufacturers to begin testing and then eventually producing vehicles with this technology.”

NEW HAMPSHIRE BANS MOTORCYCLE-ONLY ROADSIDE CHECKPOINTS

Motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints first appeared in New York in 2009; functioning like sobriety checkpoints, motorcycle-only checkpoints (MOC) allow law enforcement to pull over motorcyclists without cause, for an on-the-spot safety, license, and helmet inspection.

PHILIPPINE RESOLUTION CALLS FOR REVIEW OF ALL ANTI-BIKER LAWS

Senator Grace Poe of the Philippines has recently filed a resolution in the Senate to look into legislation and ordinances that lead to the discrimination of motorcycle riders. The resolution notes the prevalence of, “stricter checkpoints specifically targeting motorcycle riders and the latter are now perceived by the community as reckless riders and/or prone to criminal activities.”

It cites the following activities as discriminatory to riders: “a. irregular PNP checkpoints; b. national laws that penalize motorcycle riders excessively; c. high fines being imposed against motorcycle riders; and d. local ordinances that have overlooked the income of minimum wage-earning motorists.”

The resolution is hoped to review current legislation, ordinances, and law enforcement practices that specifically target motorcycle riders. Riders of the Philippines recently united several groups to ride in protest of such discriminatory practices, and drew several thousand attendees.

The resolution, filed on May 28, 2018, ends with the statement, “that while it intends to substantially bring down the number of accidents and crimes involving motorcycles, the State shall not do so to the detriment of the rights of motorcycle riders who seem to be treated with automatic disdain and “Harassment” at times.”

MOTORCYCLE RACING ENDANGERED BY INSURANCE IN ENGLAND & THE EU

Motorcycle racing is in danger in the U.K. and across Europe as new insurance rules loom, and the Motorcycle Industry Association (MIA) has called on EU member governments to reject the latest European Commission proposals, which have the potential to end all competitive motorsports across England…”Even if this means defying Brussels.”

The EU directive amends aspects of the Motor Insurance Directive, responding to the so-called ‘Vnuk’ judgment from 2014 which ruled that all mechanically propelled vehicles must have third-party insurance, even if they are only used on private land.

The insurance industry has already made it clear that it would be difficult to provide such insurance given the risks involved with racing and that doing so could be incredibly expensive and lead to “catastrophic damage inflicted on motorsports across the board if this ruling becomes law,” according to the MIA. In other EU countries where this has already been applied, premiums have risen dramatically making many events unsustainable.

The proposals represent a complete U-turn from the European Commission’s previous position in 2016, when it proposed to exclude vehicles not being used ‘in traffic’. This would have made all forms of motorsports exempt from the impact of the ruling, impacting around £11 billion ($14.6 billion USD) to the U.K. economy alone.

In the charming setting of Biarritz, before thousands of bikers who came together for the traditional Wheels and Waves event, Moto Guzzi unveiled the new Moto Guzzi V7 III Limited, the most recent stylistic interpretation of the renowned “seven-fifty” from Mandello.

The popular festival dedicated to the pairing of bikes and surfboards – Roberto D’Amico, one of the best and most respected Italian surfers faced the beach break of the French Atlantic coast with the Moto Guzzi logo on his board – was the perfect setting for the début of this exclusive limited edition in just 500 numbered units. The V7 III Limited combines the classic and elegant chromium look with refined hi-tech materials such as carbon fibre and aluminium: the eclectic, modern look reiterates how well the V7 III lends itself to customisation, an extremely youthful bike but at the same time a symbol of all that is ‘Made in Italy’, popular across the board with a diverse public.

On the Moto Guzzi V7 III Limited, the numerous chromium plated parts are reminiscent of the purest Classic world, beginning with the chromium fuel tank, “wrapped” on the top under a black leather vintage-look strap. On the sides, the unmistakeable Moto Guzzi eagle is done in a particular burnished finish: after all, black is another recurring element on the V7 III Limited, from the alloy wheels to the saddle with “old school” stitching, as well as the typical pattern of carbon fibre, the material used for the front and rear fenders and the side panels. The locking fuel cap is made from billet aluminium, as are the handlebar risers which bear the model’s laser inscribed serial number.

The Moto Guzzi 750 twin-cylinder also has a refined look, with the throttle body covers made of black anodised aluminium and the cylinder heads with milled cooling fins that create another contrasting effect. The essential instrumentation is a single, circular display with analogue speedometer and the other information contained on a digital display.
